The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) enlisted the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol)’s assistance to track down six armed robbers who stole over US$4.4 million from an Ecobank branch in Bulawayo recently.
The suspects are believed to be local criminals residing in South Africa.
Interpol is an inter-governmental organisation that facilitates cooperation between police forces from 196 member countries, whose primary goal is to help police around the world work together to combat international crime and make the world a safer place.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/interpol-roped-in-to-probe-us4m-heist/">The Herald</a>, special investigation teams have been sent to Bulawayo and surrounding areas to probe the robbery, probably the largest in Zimbabwe’s history.
The gang is allegedly connected to multiple robberies across the country, including a cash-in-transit heist involving nearly 12 kg of gold worth US$675,000 in October 2022.
They are suspected of robbing banks, money transfer agents, wholesalers, and grocery stores between May and October 2023.
In Bulawayo alone, the gang reportedly stole over US$858,000 and R508,000 in five separate raids within four months.
The suspects include Elijah Vumbunu (alias Mupositori), David Sawadye, Israel Zulu, Kudakwashe Mudzingwa (alias Umbro), Takafa Vumbunu (alias Naison Mahembe), Paul Chinake, and Brian Murape.
It is alleged that the gang typically flees to South Africa after committing their crimes.
Elijah Vumbunu reportedly runs a trucking business and resides in affluent suburbs in South Africa.

ZRP Enlists INTERPOL To Hunt Down US$4.4 Million Ecobank Heist Suspects

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said that fugitive Gweru car dealer and murder suspect Peter Dube is expected in the country to stand trial, with extradition processes from Ireland now at an advanced stage.
ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Tuesday told ZBC News that Police are working together with the National Prosecuting Authority and relevant stakeholders to ensure that Dube is brought home and face trial. He said:

With regards to extraditing murder suspect Peter Dube from Ireland we can confirm that the processes are now at an advanced stage.
Peter Dube was being sought in connection to two murder cases that took place in Gweru in 2021, two of murder and two of attempted murder.
We are working together with the National Prosecuting Authority and relevant stakeholders to bring him back so that he can stand trial back home.

Dube was arrested in Ireland by Gardaí (police force in the Republic of Ireland) after an <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/05/14/interpol-red-notice-issued-for-gwerus-killer-car-dealer-who-fled-to-ireland/">Interpol Red Notice</a> was issued for his arrest and extradition to Zimbabwe.
Dube allegedly shot dead his second wife Nyasha Nharingo’s suspected lover Shelton Chinhango — also a car dealer and her best friend, Gamuchirai Mudungwe, in Gweru on 23 April 2021.
He also allegedly went on to shoot Nyasha and her sister Nyaradzo but the two siblings survived.
After committing the crimes, Dube allegedly skipped the country and started living in Eswatini under the alias Xolile Mtsali.
He then relocated to Ireland, where he sought asylum.

Gweru Fugitive Murder Suspect To Be Extradited From Ireland Soon - Police

Police in Ireland are investigating claims that a Zimbabwean national on Interpol’s most wanted list is living under asylum seeker status in Dublin.
An Garda Síochána (Irish Police) told <a href="https://www.theepochtimes.com/irish-police-investigating-claims-alleged-triple-murderer-is-living-as-refugee-in-dublin_5275565.html?welcomeuser=1">The Epoch Times</a> that it was aware of claims by Zimbabwean authorities that Peter Dube is living in refugee accommodation in the Irish city using a false name.
Dube, a former car dealer in Gweru, allegedly shot dead three people and attempted to kill another woman in 2021.
He allegedly skipped the border to South Africa before obtaining a false passport and travelling to Ireland.
Speaking to The Sunday Mail in Zimbabwe last week, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said authorities believe Dube is living in a hotel being used to house refugees on the outskirts of Dublin. He said:

Peter Dube, who was 35 years old at the time of the incident, was a businessman operating Mixed Car Sale in Gweru and he was also into gold dealing.
The incident occurred on April 21, 2021, around 8 pm, in Gweru, and he disappeared on the same night.
Investigations also show that he helped his wife Nomatter Chawana to relocate to Dublin using a new identity.

Interpol has issued a red notice – a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition.
The <a href="https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/garda-investigating-claims-alleged-spree-30009267">Irish Mirror</a> reported on Thursday that anonymous Police sources claimed that detectives had carried out checks at the facility where Dube is reported to have been staying. Said the source:

We are happy he is not at the facility named in the media and we have found zero evidence that he is here at all.
Inquiries are continuing, but at this stage, there is nothing to suggest he is in Ireland.

According to Police, on 21 April 2021, Dube, who was a car dealer, approached his second wife, Nyasha Nharingo, and her suspected lover Shelton Chinhango — also a car dealer — who was seated in a minibus parked outside a flat in Gweru’s central business district, where she lived. Police said:

He fatally shot Chinhango at close range and turned the gun on his second wife’s best friend, Gamuchirai Mudungwe, whom he shot in the chest. She died instantly.

Dube allegedly went on to shoot Nyasha and her sister Nyaradzo. The two sisters were rushed to the hospital, where Nyaradzo died on admission.

Irish Police Investigate Claims Gweru's Killer Car Dealer Is Living In Dublin

Gweru car dealer Peter Dube, who allegedly murdered three people in 2021 before fleeing the country, has been put on the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol)’s most wanted list.
Dube also faces a separate attempted murder charge.
He allegedly skipped the country to South Africa, where he changed his identity before relocating to Ireland.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has engaged Interpol to facilitate the arrest and extradition of the suspected murderer. A Red Notice has since been issued for Dube.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development. <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/interpol-hunts-gwerus-killer-car-dealer-in-ireland/">He said</a>:

An Interpol Red Notice is a global alert that seeks the location and arrest of a wanted person.
It is issued by Interpol at the request of a member country’s national law enforcement authorities, based on a valid arrest warrant.
When a Red Notice is issued, it is circulated to all member countries of Interpol, who are expected to take the necessary steps to locate and arrest the wanted person.

Interpol Red Notice Issued For Gweru's Killer Car Dealer Who Fled To Ireland

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> has engaged Interpol <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/four-bodies-discovered-along-harare-nyamapanda-road/">over the four bodies</a> that were found along the Harare – <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nyamapanda">Nyamapanda</a> road on Tuesday 22 November 2022.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZRP said the deceased are believed to be foreign nationals. Read the statement:

Investigations conducted by the Zimbabwe Republic Police so far have established that four male adults who were found dead on 22nd November 2022 in a bushy area near the 174 km peg along Harare-Nyamapanda Road, Suswe Pass, Mudzi, are suspected foreigners who were being trafficked to another country. The victims are suspected to have suffocated in the container they were travelling in and the bodies were dumped in the area.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has engaged INTERPOL for further investigations in terms of the victim’s identification and for the law to take its course on possible suspects.
Meanwhile, on 21st November 2022, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare acted on received information and arrested Honest Shumba (33), Allen Shumba (37) and a foreign national, Stanley Eze (45) at a lodge along David Morgan Crescent, Avondale in connection with unlawful dealing in cocaine.
The suspects were found in possession of 105 grammes of cocaine with a street value of ZWL$ 5 880 000.00.

UPDATE: ZRP Engages Interpol Over Bodies Found Along Harare - Nyamapanda Road

Zimbabwean businessman Frank Buyanga Sadiqi had his warrant of arrest cancelled by a Harare court on Monday.
The court said the warrant was issued in error.
Buyanga was arrested in South Africa last Thursday for allegedly kidnapping his son and has been locked up at Sun City Prison since his arrest.
He filed an application for cancellation of the arrest warrant saying it was illegally issued.
Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga heard the application on Monday where she admitted that she issued it erroneously.
The State, through Zebediah Bofu, had opposed the cancellation of the warrant saying Buyanga was placed on Interpol’s red notice on July 7, 2020.
But Buyanga’s lawyer Admire Rubaya submitted that the magistrates’ court’s decision to grant the warrant of arrest was outrageous, defied logic and no sensible court having applied its mind would arrive at that.

Businessman Frank Buyanga’s Interpol Warrant Of Arrest Cancelled

The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) refused to cooperate with the government of Zimbabwe in its bid to have Robert Mugabe-era cabinet Ministers arrested and extradited.
Walter Mzembi and former ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere are facing various criminal charges back home.
According to ZimLive, the Zimbabwean government’s request was dismissed by Interpol after it sought for the arrest and extradition of Kasukuwere.
In a letter to Harare authorities, seen by the publication, Interpol said all requests for placement of an individual on a red notice are forwarded to its Notices and Diffusions Task Force to ensure that they comply with the organisation’s constitution and rules, in particular, Article 3. The Clause makes it clear that:
<blockquote>… it is strictly forbidden for the organisation to undertake any intervention or activities of a political, military or racial character.</blockquote>
Following the government’s request to have Kasukuwere apprehended in May, the organisation wrote that it considered:
<blockquote>… the status of the person, the nature of the offence, the general context of the case and the implications for the neutrality of the organisation.
… Given the above and taking into account the neutrality of the organisation, it is considered that the request may engage the organisation in matters, which would bring into question its neutrality according to article 3 of Interpol’s constitution.
As a result, the General Secretariat is not in a position to publish the red notice against Mr Kasukuwere and the information concerning the individual will be deleted from Interpol’s databases.</blockquote>
Besides Mzembi and Kasukuwere, some high profile individuals who served in the Mugabe administration and are now out of the country include Jonathan Moyo, Godfrey Gandawa, Walter Chidhakwa, Mandi Chimene and Patrick Zhuwao, the former police chief Augustine Chihuri and former intelligence chief Happyton Bonyongwe.
They are all considered to have been aligned to the G40 faction which was weakened following former President Mugabe’s “resignation”.
