<p><span>All-rounder Sikandar Raza has been crowned Internationational Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Player of the Month for August 2022, becoming the first Zimbabwean to win the prestigious accolade.</span></p>
<p><span>He defeated fellow nominees and all-rounders Mitchell Santner of New Zealand and England’s Ben Stokes to the accolade. He said:</span></p>

<p><em><span>It’s even more humbling being the first Zimbabwean to ever win the award.</span></em></p>

<p><span>Raza was instrumental in <strong><a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zimbabwe-beat-bangladesh-to-seal-1st-odi-series-win-against-a-major-team-in-5-years/">Zimbabwe’s One Day International (ODI) cricket series win against Bangladesh</a></strong> last month at Harare Sports Club. </span></p>
<p><span>The win by five wickets completed Zimbabwe’s first win against a major team in five years.</span></p>
<p><span><strong><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sikandar_Raza">Sikandar Raza</a></strong>’s second successive unbeaten century and captain Regis Chakabva’s 102 off just 75 balls contributed much to the victory.</span></p>
<p><span>Raza had earlier taken 3 for 56 to help restrict the visitors to 290-9.</span></p>
<p><span>Two days after his 192-run fourth-wicket stand with Innocent Kaia had taken Zimbabwe to a five-wicket win in the first ODI, Raza had the company of Chakabva while scripting another challenging chase.</span></p>
<p><span>Chakabva made his maiden ODI hundred, which, coming up in just 73 balls, was the fastest by a Zimbabwe batter in ODIs.</span></p>
<p><span>Coming together at a shaky 49 for 4, Raza and Chakabva added 201 for the fifth wicket, off just 189 balls. It was only the third 200-plus stand in Zimbabwe’s ODI history and their highest for the fifth wicket. </span></p>

<div dir="auto" lang="en">The men’s CWC Challenge League A will be played in August next year, with Canada hosting Denmark, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore and Vanuatu what will be a total of 15 games.</div>

<div dir="auto" lang="en">Also, the Challenge League B will be held in Jersey in September 2021, with Bermuda, Hong Kong, Italy, Kenya and Uganda competing in 15 matches.</div>

<div dir="auto" lang="en">The final Challenge League B event has been scheduled for February 2022, while that of the Challenge League A for September 2022, with 60 List A matches set to be played.</div>

The bottom four teams will drop into the Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Off 2023 – which is a repechage event to the Global Qualifier – and will be joined by the winner of Challenge League A and B. The top two teams from the Play-Off – which has also been rescheduled to 2023 – will keep their hopes alive of participating in India 2023, by qualifying for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.</div>

Zimbabwe To Host 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

<p>The International Cricket Council (ICC) has extended a lifeline to Zimbabwe Cricket after agreeing to continue funding the organisation in a controlled way which will allow it to pay off its debts. Zimbabwe was at a risk of being suspended unless it reduced or restructured its debt of USD 18 million. Zimbabwe’s funding will be more regulated so that the organisation can pay among other obligations,  its players their outstanding salaries and allowances which resulted in five senior players missing the ongoing T20I triangular series against Pakistan and Australia.</p>
<p>Speaking at the ICC’s annual conference in Dublin, Shashank Manohar, the ICC chairman, said</p>
<blockquote><p>I am satisfied we have mapped out a way forward to enable Zimbabwe Cricket to get back on track. It will require significant change to their financial, managerial and cricketing operations, along with support from the ICC, but we saw the latent potential of cricket at the recent ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe and this gives us the opportunity to build on that.</p></blockquote>
