President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesman, George Charamba, said that musician Chief Hwenje, born Admire Sanyanga Sibanda, will be sent to South Africa for treatment following a recent diagnosis of lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic and immune systems.
Chief Hwenje has retreated to his rural home in Shanyura village, Mapanzure, in the Midlands Province, as he battles a painful and difficult health crisis.
In a recent interview with <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/bombshell-chief-hwenje-down-with-cancer-album-release-postponed">The Sunday Mail</a>, Chief Hwenje revealed the extent of his suffering. He described how the pain has become almost unbearable, to the point where he sometimes struggles to walk or even speak.
In response to an X user named Twinsisters, who wished Chief Hwenje a speedy recovery, Charamba, using one of his multiple accounts under the name Jamwanda, stated, “He will be fine. He is leaving for SA for treatment.”
Commenting on Charamba’s response, journalist and government critic Hopewell Chin’ono remarked that this illustrates how ZANU PF prioritises its own members while ordinary Zimbabweans are left to die at home. Wrote Chin’ono:

[Charamba] is talking about a Zimbabwean ZANUPF singer who has composed songs mocking anyone demanding accountability.
This singer, called Chief Hwenje, was diagnosed with cancer. Zimbabwe has not had radiotherapy cancer treatment machines for three years, and the health delivery system is in ruins.
Charamba tells his supporters that the ZANU PF singer is being flown to South Africa for treatment. The irony is tragic.
They have destroyed the public health system through the looting of public funds. When one of their own gets sick, they take them to South Africa.
What about YOU, who is not a ZANUPF singer? What about everyone else, as ordinary as they are Zimbabwean?
Ordinary Zimbabweans are simply dying in their homes without treatment because the health system collapsed years ago.
Those who survive are the ones fortunate enough to cross the border into South Africa to seek healthcare. This is what ZANUPF has delivered to Zimbabweans! 
They are not even embarrassed to say publicly that they go to South Africa for treatment instead of fixing the public healthcare system so that everyone can have access to healthcare!

Mnangagwa's Spokesman Says Chief Hwenje Set For Cancer Treatment In South Africa

One of the largest political parties in Namibia, the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_Democratic_Movement">Popular Democratic Movement</a> (PDM), has objected to the appointment of Wicknell Chivayo linked company, Ren-Form.
Ren-form reportedly won a tender worth US $60 million from the Namibian government to supply election materials. The Namibian election is on the 27th of November.
The same company won a tender in Zimbabwe to supply the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission with election material last year. However, it was later revealed the process may have been corrupt with allegations that Wicknell Chivayo used the company to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/06/14/south-african-firm-linked-to-chivayo-charged-zec-us1-2-million-for-a-server-worth-us4-000/">overcharge ZEC</a> in return for kickbacks to himself, colleagues and some ZEC officials. The revelations came out <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/06/21/wicknell-chivayo-will-be-forgiven-but-his-colleagues-will-suffer-says-mzembi/">following disagreements over the distribution of kickbacks</a>.
Responding to the news of Renf-form winning a tender in Namibia, PDM party leader McHenry Venaani urged Namibians to march with him next week in protest. Said Venaani:

I want to alert the nation that we have given notice to the Inspector General of Police, that we are going to have a march on Tuesday to protect our democracy. To reject with the contempt it deserves, what the Electoral Commission of Namibia and its shenanigans wants to do, by inviting a company that is embroiled in international corruption in Zimbabwe and South Africa, importing their corrupt activities that they practiced during the failed Zimbabwe elections into Namibia. 
We are calling upon the ECN to desist from having this company.

The PDM has also posted a letter its lawyers sent to the ECN, which said in part:

It has come to our client’s attention that the controversial businessman, Wicknell Chivhayo, is connected to the supplier, Ren-Form CC. Given the exploits of Mr Chivhayo and his alleged connections to corrupt dealings as reported in the media our client is concerned that the integrity and credibility of the election process in the Presidential and National Elections would be undermined and tainted by the appointment of the supplier. 
Therefore, our client shall take such steps it may deem necessary should your offices proceed to utilise the intended supplier.

While confirming the awarding of the tender to Ren-form, the ECN has said the tender value quoted in the media is incorrect and that a rigorous process went into selecting the company:

The decision to award the contract to Ren-Form CC was made following a thorough and rigorous evaluation process that adhered to the laws governing procurement. Factors considered included compliance with technical requirements, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and the ability to meet strict timelines. To be clear and set the record straight: the total cost of this contract is N$6,250,686—far from the grossly inflated and fictitious figure of N$1 billion being circulated in certain media reports.

The Popular Democratic Movement in Namibia is mad because a company linked to Wicknell Chivayo got a contract to supply election materials. This company also got in trouble for shady dealings in Zimbabwe. The PDM leader wants people to march in protest against this decision because they think it's not fair and may affect the election results. They're asking the Namibian Electoral Commission to cancel the contract with this company.

Namibian Opposition Objects Appointment of Wicknell Linked Company In Supply Election Materials

The State has withdrawn murder charges against Obert Masaraure and Robson Chere, leaders of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) before a plea was entered. This comes after nearly eight years of delays, during which the trial failed to commence.
Masaraure (pictured) serves as the president of ARTUZ, while Chere holds the position of secretary-general.
Masaraure, represented by lawyer Doug Coltart, appeared before Harare resident magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Friday, November 11.
Allegations were that on June 11, 2016, at around 10 PM, Masaraure and his accomplices, who remain at large, were in the company of the now-deceased Roy Issa at the Quill Club in the Ambassador Hotel, where they were drinking.
Allegedly, they left the club about 30 minutes later and proceeded to the Cresta Jameson Hotel, where Issa, a youth activist and member of ARTUZ, ultimately died.
In court, prosecutors claimed that Masaraure and Chere, along with four unnamed accomplices, engaged in a drinking spree in Harare with Issa. 
Following a misunderstanding, they reportedly ganged up on him and assaulted him in the head with unknown weapons, leading to his death.
Prosecutors further alleged that the accused attempted to conceal the crime by falsely claiming that Issa fell from the balcony of Jameson Hotel, resulting in his death.

The State dropped murder charges against Obert Masaraure and Robson Chere, leaders of a teachers' union, after long delays. Masaraure is the union's president and Chere is the secretary-general. Allegations said they were involved in a drinking spree that led to a youth activist's death. The State claimed they assaulted him, leading to his death, and tried to hide the crime. The trial didn't start for eight years. Masaraure's lawyer represented him in court. The charges were dropped before they entered a plea.

State Withdraws Murder Charges Against ARTUZ Leaders Masaraure And Chere

The Group J 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matchday 4 qualifier between Namibia and Zimbabwe on 10 October at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, will be played behind closed doors.
This was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) in a statement on Monday, October 7.
ZIFA said that Namibia, the home team for the first of two back-two-back matches, requested that the game be played without fans in attendance. ZIFA said:

Please note that the Warriors’ Thursday game vs Namibia will be played behind closed doors at Namibia’s behest. A request has been made for all fans not to make their way to Orlando Stadium.
However, our home game on Monday 14 October is open to all.

Last week, ZIFA announced the ticket prices for the Warriors’ upcoming match against Namibia’s Brave Warriors, set to take place at the same venue.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 PM CAT on October 14, with general admission tickets priced at R50.
Both matches will be held in South Africa, as neither Namibia nor Zimbabwe has a CAF-certified stadium suitable for hosting international games.

Fans Barred From Namibia versus Zimbabwe AFCON Qualifier

A 23-year-old man from Kwekwe appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, facing allegations of rape.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused and the complainant are not related. Said the NPA:

Allegations are that some time in September 2024 at around 1500 hours the accused person dragged the 10 year old girl into an unfinished building where he told her that he wanted to have sexual relations with her.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she screamed or told anyone. He then removed her clothes before allegedly raping her. The accused person only stopped when he heard a voice calling the complainant’s name.
On the 14th of September 2024 at around 2000 hours the accused person cut off his manhood with a knife whilst screaming that the complainant was his wife.
The matter came to light when the complainant confided in her grandmother about the offence.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) requested that the accused undergo examinations by two doctors under the Mental Health Act, and this application was granted.
The accused is currently remanded from a hospital bed in Gweru, where he is receiving medical attention. He is scheduled to appear before the court again on October 8, 2024.

A 23-year-old man raped a 10-year-old girl and then cut off his own manhood in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe. The man threatened the girl and assaulted her in an unfinished building. The girl told her grandmother about what happened. The man was taken to the hospital and will have a mental health examination. He will be in court again on October 8, 2024.

Kwekwe Man (23) Rapes 10-Year-Old, Then Cuts Off His Manhood

Grade 3 pupils at Lukanyiso Primary School in Mpopoma, Bulawayo, have been attending classes alongside a coffin for the past three years, reported <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/byo-school-forces-grade-3-pupils-to-learn-with-coffin/">The Sunday News</a>.
The coffin was reportedly created by teachers as part of a project three years ago. During a recent visit to the school, local councillor Donaldson Mabuto was alerted by concerned residents who said the presence of a coffin in the classroom was unsettling for learners. Said Mabuto:

This is totally against our moral credentials and for learners to be exposed to the mere sight of a coffin in a classroom when they are learning at a very young age is not proper according to our culture and according to the upbringing of our children in schools.
This also attracts a bad omen even to the school. As the local councillor, I am not happy at all, whoever initiated this project four years back has to be brought to book.
I was only alerted today by some of the school authorities. I went there to see it personally and I have instructed them to urgently call a parents meeting to deliberate on this.
This is unacceptable. Our children deserve better than to be subjected to such an environment. I will be engaging with the school authorities and the local education department to ensure this coffin is removed and to address the broader issues affecting the school.

Speaking to The Sunday News, a concerned parent questioned why the coffin has remained in the classroom and why no action has been taken to remove it. Said the parent:

This coffin project was first mooted about four years back under the then, School Development Committee chairperson, Mr Phethangani Nyoni, who is now the SDC treasurer. It’s not just inappropriate; it’s disturbing for the children to see that every day. They should be learning in a safe and conducive environment.

Nyoni acknowledged that he is a woodwork teacher by profession but declined to get involved in the matter, saying he is simply a parent at the school.

Bulawayo School's Grade 3 Pupils Forced To Study Next To Coffin For Years

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) has urged residents living near game parks to refrain from moving about at night due to the risk of wild animal attacks.
This warning follows the tragic death of 47-year-old Scorch Gawa, a resident of Kariba, who was trampled by an elephant in Batonga on Wednesday night.
Reports indicate that Gawa was attacked while returning home after a night of drinking.
Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031640/kariba-man-trampled-to-death-by-elephant">NewsDay</a>, advising that people should avoid travelling at night, as wild animals are also active during those hours. He said:

Yes, we can confirm an incident where a man was trampled to death by an elephant in Kariba. We discourage people from moving at night because animals usually move during the night.

It is estimated that over 200,000 elephants inhabit a conservation area spanning five southern African countries—Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Angola, and Namibia—making the region home to one of the largest elephant populations in the world.
This week, Namibia announced plans to cull 723 wild animals, including 83 elephants, and distribute the meat to people struggling to access food due to the El Niño-induced drought.
The animals to be culled include 30 Hippos, 60 buffalos, 50 impalas, 100 blue Wilderbeast, 300 Zebras, 83 elephants and 100 elands.

Zimparks says it's risky to travel at night because animals are active then. The region has a lot of elephants and Namibia plans to cull some animals to help people suffering from drought. They will kill a variety of animals, including 83 elephants, and give the meat to those in need. It's important to stay safe and avoid wild animals, especially at night.

Kariba Man Killed By An Elephant, Zimparks Warns Residents To Avoid Night Travel

A Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor in Bulawayo has been granted bail of US$100 after nearly a month in detention.
Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart attended the court proceedings last week to support Councillor Bruce Moyo, who represents Nkulumane Ward 22.
Coltart revealed that Moyo’s legal team had submitted a bail application to the High Court after the magistrate’s court denied his initial request.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Moyo was arrested for allegedly organising an anti-government protest before the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Harare on August 17, 2024.
Moyo was charged with incitement to public violence.
He was represented by Tinashe Runganga of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
As part of his bail conditions, Moyo was ordered to report at Bulawayo Central Police Station once every week.
Moyo is among numerous opposition activists and rights defenders detained by police since June in connection with the summit.
In a separate case, eight of twelve Gokwe villagers arrested approximately two weeks ago for participating in an anti-government demonstration were denied bail on Monday.
Magistrate Honest Musiyiwa ruled against granting bail, citing concerns that the accused might interfere with witnesses.
He also said that one suspect, Gift Chuma, remains at large and that investigations are still ongoing.

A councillor from CCC in Bulawayo named Bruce Moyo was granted bail of US$100 after being in jail for almost a month. He was arrested for allegedly organizing an anti-government protest. The mayor, David Coltart, supported Moyo during the court proceedings. Many opposition activists have been detained by police since June in connection with the protest. Eight villagers from Gokwe were also arrested for a demonstration and were denied bail because of concerns about interfering with witnesses. Investigations are still ongoing in this case.

CCC Councillor, Bruce Moyo, Granted US$100 Bail

Timothy Chiminya, who has proclaimed himself as the rightful King Munhumutapa, has officially notified the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, as well as the Zimbabwe Chiefs Council, that all traditional leaders, including spirit mediums, now fall under his authority.
Chiminya is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with the Ministries of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, and Local Government, who are challenging his claim to the Munhumutapa kingship.
In his argument, Chiminya contends that the ruling ZANU PF party acknowledged him as King Munhumutapa by involving him in performing rituals for the party.
In July 2024, Chiminya presided over the installation of Johnsias Mugomeri as Paramount Chief Goredema in Gokwe, further asserting his self-proclaimed authority.
Most recently, Chiminya has written to Chiefs Council President Khumalo, informing him that all traditional leaders in Zimbabwe now fall under Chiminya’s Munhumutapa kingship.
He has cited a High Court judgment from September 2022 that he claims validates his royal claims. Said Chiminya:

I am writing to inform you about the recent High Court order ruling stating that all the chiefs will now come under King Munhumutapa after the High Court judgment, where Timothy Chiminya (King Muhumutapa) won the case in September 2022.
All chiefs must be accredited by King Munhumutapa and the King will have the final say towards the chiefs, headmen and sabhukus (village heads). All traditions, rituals and spirit mediums must fall under King Munhumutapa.
In the interest of unity, peace and cooperation among all the chiefs in Zimbabwe, we are asking that your office may also cooperate and respect the High Court judgment.
It is important that we work together towards a common goal and put all our differences aside for the greater good of our people.
I urge you to embrace this new arrangement and work with King Munhumutapa towards building a strong and prosperous future for all our people.
</blockquote>
He copied his letter to ZANU PF, the Office of the President and Cabinet and other ministries.
However, when contacted for comment by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031374/king-munhumutapa-strikes-demands-chiefs-allegiance">NewsDay</a>, the President of the Chiefs’ Council dismissed Chiminya’s directive, scoffing at the self-proclaimed king’s attempt to assert authority over traditional leaders. He said:

The Constitution of Zimbabwe does not have a king’s provision since it has not been amended on such
We do not need to talk to him. It’s just a person enjoying media attention.
I do not see the Constitution amended to that effect to suit his interest in my lifetime. He proclaimed himself as king and it boggles the mind for him to expect us to go to him and say he must rule us.

On August 19, 2024, Chiminya, wrote to the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works demanding payment of his outstanding wages and allowances.
In his letter, Chiminya claimed that the High Court had made a ruling in his favour regarding this matter on September 28, 2022. He stated that to date, he had not received any of the owed payments. He wrote:

I am writing to demand that the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works take immediate action to pay me, Timothy Chiminya, my outstanding wages and allowances as per order case number HC3981/22.
The order was granted in Harare on September 28, 2022. Until now, nothing has been paid yet.
Failure to comply within 14 days from the date you receive this letter will result in us taking further legal action.
</blockquote>
In her judgment, Justice Priscilla Manongwa-Munangati ordered the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works to pay Chiminya his outstanding wages and allowances as the self-proclaimed ‘King Munhumutapa’.
It is worth noting that the historical King Munhumutapa, also known as Mwenemutapa, was a powerful ruler of the Mutapa Empire – a medieval kingdom that existed in what is now modern-day Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
The Mutapa Empire reached its peak in the 15th and 16th centuries but began to decline as the Rozvi Empire, ruled by the Changamire Dynasty, emerged in the region.

"King Munhumutapa" Demands Chiefs, Headmen, Village Heads' Allegiance

A church building belonging to controversial South African preacher Pastor Mboro, whose real name is Paseka Motsoeneng, was set on fire on Tuesday.
According to <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/watch-pastor-mboros-church-torched-in-katlehong-20240806">News24</a>, the church, known as Incredible Happenings, located just behind the Katlehong North police station, was also looted shortly before it was set alight.
Several pupils in school uniforms were seen running from the burning church and law enforcement officers were present but did not intervene.
Pastor Mboro was reportedly among four people who were arrested after a group of knife-wielding men intimidated teachers at a Katlehong school on Monday.
According to the Gauteng education department, in a series of shocking videos that have gone viral on social media, Motsoeneng is seen wielding machetes and threatening to attack teachers on the school premises.
<a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/pastor-mboro-believed-to-be-among-four-arrested-following-panga-attack-at-katlehong-school-9eb77464-be80-46fa-9b90-2a8563ab9e28">IOL</a> quoted Gauteng provincial education MEC Matome Chiloane, as saying:

Disturbingly, another man is seen grabbing two learners, who were caught in the crossfire of this violent ordeal, while another is wielding an assault rifle.
</blockquote>
The department said that there had been a conflict between two families over the custody of boy learners enrolled at the school, in Grade RR and Grade 2.
It is alleged that the mother of the children passed away in April this year, leading to a dispute between the paternal and maternal sides of the family.
On Monday, the children’s father and the maternal grandmother, who is the alleged guardian of the children, met with the principal separately.
During the meeting, the grandmother reportedly told the principal that a conflict had occurred during a meeting held over the past weekend at the house of the paternal grandfather, that is Pastor Mboro. Reads the statement from the department:

Following this, the deputy principal and some staff members refused to release the children without the grandmother’s permission. This led to the pastor arriving at the school with bodyguards and weapons.
The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon after school when the father of the children came to fetch them, accompanied by two men, one of them being the pastor — who was armed with two pangas while the other carried an assault rifle.
Teachers, acting on the alleged instructions from the grandmother, tried to prevent the father from leaving the school premises with the children.
In response, the pastor brandished a panga threateningly at the teachers, allowing the father to leave with the children.

Explaining himself in the audio recording during a conversation between himself, the police, a ward councillor and the school staff at Katlehong North police station, Mboro said his son had gone to the school to pick up his children but was blocked by teachers.
He also alleged the teachers locked up and beat his son up. He said:

They were throwing stones at my son and while they were kicking him, I ran to fetch the panga.

A church belonging to Pastor Mboro in South Africa was burned by kids. The church was also looted before being set on fire. Pastor Mboro was arrested after a knife attack by men at a school. There was a conflict between families over children's custody due to their mother's death. The father and grandmother of the kids met separately with the school principal. The pastor arrived at the school with weapons after a dispute. Pastor Mboro claimed he acted to protect his son. He and three others are facing charges, including assault and intimidation.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly condemned the arrest of opposition activists and pro-democracy campaigners, saying the ZANU PF-led government’s repression is tarnishing the country’s image.
Chamisa described Zimbabwe as “the sickness of SADC,” criticizing the government’s intolerance of alternative voices, which he deemed a national embarrassment for the country.
Furthermore, Chamisa demanded the immediate release of more than 70 Citizens’ Coalition for Change activists who were arrested in Harare’s Avondale suburb on June 16 while commemorating the Day of the African Child. Chamisa wrote on X:

On Wednesday, four local pro-democracy activists – Namatai Kwekweza, Robson Chere, Samuel Gwenzi, and Vusumuzi Moyo – were reportedly pulled off a Victoria Falls-bound plane at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Following their abduction, the activists were allegedly subjected to torture.
Prominent lawyer and director of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Roselyn Hanzi said:

Perpetrators of torture should be weary of travelling beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. There is universal jurisdiction for torture.

ZANU PF Youth League Political Commissar Taurai Kandishaya has criticised the party’s spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa for saying Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was not ordained successor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/zanu-pf-youth-league-slams-mutsvangwa-over-chiwenga-diatribe/">ZimLive</a>.
Mutsvangwa was quoted by a weekly publication over the weekend saying there was no pact or agreement between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga for the latter’s ascension to the presidency.
Mutsvangwa also said Mnangagwa does not have the power to unilaterally endorse a preferred candidate to succeed him when his current term expires in 2028. He said:

ZANU PF is not a church where people can be anointed, and the president is not the Pope or the Archbishop of Canterbury who anoints priests
If you think you’re worth it, go and sell yourself to the people. If you clamour for anointment by the president, it means you have failed the litmus test of being a ZANU PF leader.
ZANU PF is not a secret society and there is no secret agreement on succession. People are going to vote for their leaders from the grassroots level.

In an interview with ZBC News on Tuesday, Kandishaya criticized Mutsvangwa for publicly discussing the issue of presidential succession within the ruling party. Said Kandishaya:

We don’t discuss succession with the media in ZANU PF; there are laid down procedures. In fact, in ZANU PF, almost everything that we do is procedural; we have the constitution of the party, we have a code of conduct and we have the ideology of ZANU PF.
So everything that is done in ZANU PF must be found within the four corners of the ideology; the ideology is then supported by the constitution of the party.
So, this is not an issue where one can just be seen or heard out there discussing about it. That’s unprocedural.

2024 PSL Season: Matchday 20 Fixtures And Venues – Simba Bhora Hosts Highlanders

UK-based Zimbabwean lawyer, Brighton Mutebuka, says there is a looming “final showdown” between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga over the control of the ruling ZANU PF party and the Zimbabwean government.
Mutebuka, in a post on the social media platform X, has suggested that despite ZANU PF’s denials, there are ongoing power struggles between the two senior political figures.
This comes after President Mnangagwa recently claimed that he is not seeking a third term in office, which Mutebuka believes should not be taken at face value.
The lawyer asserts that Mnangagwa is now racing against time and has to execute a plan to remain in power beyond 2028 within the next 18 months.
The speculation around a power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga has been the subject of much debate within Zimbabwe’s political landscape. He wrote:

<h2>ED &amp; Chiwenga’s Final Showdown Edges Closer As Brinksmanship Nears Grand Finale!</h2>
1. It’s the worst-kept secret in town. It’s a poorly scripted show. It’s about to take off.
2. It could only have been kept in the shadows for so long.
3. It started with the FAZ-led &amp; ZEC-assisted electoral heist in August 2023.
4. It progressed via the unleashing of a shameless proxy, Tshabangu &amp; his surrogates in decimating the then-only viable political opposition in the then-Chamisa-led CCC.
5. Once that mission had been accomplished, the next natural &amp; logical step was always going to be managing the internal mechanics of ZANU PF.
6. This is the phase that we have now reached – and the most dangerous yet.
7. As previously opined, ED’s path to retaining power is perilous. This is because, at all material times, he has to show his hand.
8. It is he who has to officially &amp; publicly seek &amp; get an endorsement to be ZANU PF’s next presidential candidate.
9. It is he who has to openly command the machinery of the state to overcome the formidable constitutional obstacles in his path.
10. In all this, Chiwenga is the “insurgent”. He will remain inscrutable. He will play the fool, just like ED did while plotting against Bob – biding his time and perfecting his “art” until the moment is ripe.
11. ED’s hand is being forced by his shrinking political clock which dictates the necessity of executing key &amp; calculated political steps to beat the deadline imposed by the expiry of his term in 2028.
12. In actual effect, given where we are now, he has to execute his mission with deadly precision &amp; ruthlessness within the next 18 months or so, if he is to have the chance of seeing it through.
13. I have always argued that the odds are heavily stacked against him. At the very least, constitutionally at least – even with the benefit of Malaba in his corner – the route to his endgame is highly combustible.
14. Then there is the added political intrigue that arises from the inevitable &amp; high-octane pitting of wily deep-state actors on either side in dangerous duels in Zimbabwe’s equivalent of ancient Rome’s Colosseum.
15. The more political scandals tumble out of ED’s political closet – cue the current &amp; previous state capture &amp; corruption scandals – the more ED will be primed to fight to the death given the fear he is likely to have over the potential consequences of a catastrophic loss of power.
16. The duel pits Alpha male against Alpha male. One thing clear from ED’s Mutare speech is that he did not expressly or officially endorse or identify Chiwenga as his successor – this despite the “blood brothers” narrative they have sought to portray over many years.
17. I previously commented that there was something churlish about ED’s Chikomba speech – where he did a roll call of his cabinet &amp; asked it to line up &amp; endorse his 3rd term agenda via chanting his slogan in front of Chiwenga – before holding and hoisting Chiwenga’s hand while bizarrely &amp; needlessly introducing him as Zim’s VP – as if such an introduction was necessary or appropriate – either in that moment or in Chikomba of all places.
18. I consider that roll call to be blood-curdling, reckless, extremely provocative &amp; dangerous to a tee. Brazenly executed in broad daylight in Chiwenga’s home ground, on his own turf, it’s difficult not to interpret it as a crude but powerful attempt at subjugation and projection of untrammelled power.
19. The stream of choreography we are now witnessing, from General Sanyatwe’s reckless utterances to the cacophony of deafening alarm bells from the Bocha VaPostori Passover charade is part of that act of intimidating all internal opponents in ZANU PF.
20. There are also attempts at generating massive goodwill &amp; performance legitimacy from the gullible through a sustained flurry/campaign of public works – such as road repairs, new buildings and other “ED Works”, to generate a sense of indispensability or creation of a messianic complex &amp; justify the 2030 Project, as if another ZANU PF candidate can’t continue on the same trajectory.
21. The more many organs of ZANU PF &amp; state officials join the chorus, the more the 3rd term agenda is presented as a fait accompli – to the likes of Chiwenga, so that they can be psychologically whipped into line to capitulate without any further salvos being fired – thereby achieving another version of a bloodless palace reverse coup!
22. ED’s Mutare Juice speech’s reference to a party-chosen successor as opposed to a carefully scripted Chiwenga coronation dramatically &amp; powerfully demonstrated the fissures in their claimed close relationship.
23. It’s a not-so-subtle lightning rod to ED’s Lieutenants and the politically discerning – the equivalent of Prof Moyo’s then explosive BBC Hardtalk interview when he declared that ED’s then elevation to the state Vice Presidency did not mean that he was a shoo-in Bob’s successor.
24. So we now have our answer to the Mutare Juice speech. ED simply wanted to lure in his ambitious rivals into choppy waters and a false sense of security – while unfurling the old &amp; worn out dictator’s script of pretending to be reluctant &amp; unwilling to stay in power while secretly marshalling their proxies to continue pushing their naked political ambition from behind the scenes!
25. In scenes akin to a deadly game of Russian Roulette, ED has effectively raised the stakes &amp; marked his territory – daring Chiwenga to enter the dungeon &amp; settle their score. At some point, the latter will have to take the plunge, which is when it will become hair raising &amp; cause teeth to gnash! If it previously never was, it’s now immediately clear that the much-vaunted Coup Protocol either never existed or was never taken seriously by ED.
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
ED is going nowhere. Battle lines are now drawn everywhere. In SADC, in ZANU PF and all state institutions. The unfinished business of November 2017 has returned to haunt Zimbabwe.
The showdown is looming. It’s how ED’s political journey was always going to unfold. He was always incapable of giving up power voluntarily.
Had his Mutare speech been sincere, we would have seen a tectonic shift in Zim’s political terrain through the loosening of his grip over party &amp; state affairs, genuine delegation of power/decentralisation and a lowering of the political temperature.
Instead, we have seen the exact opposite! You would think it was ED’s first term. There are so many political scandals engulfing ED as to disincentivise him from vacating the seat of power. One gets the impression that he is committed to rolling the political dice to the bitter end!
Virtually every current political event in Zim seems to be attributable to the intractable succession saga. From mysterious arsons to senseless arrests of political opponents &amp; exceptionally cruel &amp; prolonged denial of bail even to the disabled and infants – such jarring heartlessness &amp; callousness!
We are also increasingly seeing the unusual spectacle of children of high-profile regime officials getting arrested – which heightens the political intrigue involved!
It’s a bumpy road ahead, everyone needs to buckle up &amp; fasten their seatbelts, especially the leading protagonists &amp; those around them!

PSL 2024 Matchday 12 Fixtures: CAPS United Host Dynamos

The Warriors will play their next FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier against Lesotho at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, ZIFA has confirmed.
The matchday 3 fixture will kick off at 6 PM Central African Time on 07 June, at Orlando Stadium, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Zimbabwe will then play against South Africa on Matchday 4 at Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein on 11 June at 9 PM Central African Time.
The Senior Men’s National Team had to use a foreign venue for the match against Lesotho due to the unavailability of suitable stadiums in the country.
All local football venues, including the National Sports Stadium, were condemned by CAF ahead of the start of the qualifiers last November.
Zimbabwe hosted Nigeria in Rwanda on matchday 2 of the campaign, a few days after playing against the central African country.
Meanwhile, ZIFA has yet to appoint the Warriors’ head coach to take charge of the two matches and recently advertised the vacant post.

Warriors To "Host" Lesotho At Orlando Stadium In World Cup Qualifier

Blessing Munemo, a ZANU PF councillor in Seke Rural, has approached the courts to stop a granite mining company from carrying out unsanctioned exploration activities on villagers’ land.
Munemo, who is Councillor for Ward 1 in Mayambara in Seke, is being assisted by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR). The ZLHR said:

Cllr Munemo wants Matscandnavia, which trades as Seven Stars Mine, to be ordered not to prospect, conduct exploration or any form of mining activity in four villages namely Savanhu, Mhonda, Mhundwa and Charigwati located in Mayambira in Seke in Mashonaland East province, without following due process and the law.
Councillor Munemo, who lives in Savanhu village, where he was born in 1984 and which is also his ancestral home, recently engaged Tinashe Chinopfukutwaand Kelvin Kabaya of ZLHR, who on 10 April filed an application at Marondera Magistrates Court, seeking an order compelling Matscandnavia to be ordered to remove some pegs, which the mining company installed in some villagers’ land within 24 hours of the granting of the order sought by the community leader.
In the event that the mining company fails to comply with the order to remove the pegs, Councillor Munemo wants the court to authorise the Messenger of Court to pluck them off the villagers’ land.
Councillor Munemo told the court that sometime in 2023, some employees or agents of Matscandnavia descended on Savanhu, Mhonda, Mhundwa and Charigwati villages, where they pegged the area for quarry mining purposes, with the majority of the pegs having been mounted in Savanhu village, which has a huge expanse and deposits of granite.
Councillor Munemo, who apart from Matscandnavia, also cited the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and Mines and Mining Development Minister Hon. Zhemu Soda as respondents to the application, protested that he was never consulted on the proposed quarry mining activities and he never consented to the same.
He stated that he resorted to taking legal action against Matscandnavia after the mining company ignored his letter, which was written on his behalf by Chinopfukutwa and Kabaya on 11 March 2024 requesting the mining company to stop its quarry mining activities and to remove its pegs because it had not complied with the provisions of the law such as acquiring an Environmental Impact Assessment certificate.
In his application, Councillor Munemo argued that in terms of the provisions of section 97 of the Environmental Management Act, mineral prospecting, which includes pegging, cannot be conducted unless EMA has issued a certificate approving the same.
He protested that the mining company had pegged the villagers’ land without the written consent and approval of the Manyame Rural District Council under which the four villages fall.
Councillor Munemo stated that in terms of the provisions of section 73 of the Constitution, he has a right to a safe and healthy environment, which is not detrimental to his health and he also has a right to have the environment to be protected for the benefit of present and future generations through measures which ensures ecologically sustainable use of natural resources.
Councillor Munemo bemoaned that villagers were going to lose their grazing pastures, farming land and some sacred traditional and cultural shrines to Matscandnavia operations.
He said allowing Matscandnavia to conduct granite mining operations without any environmental impact assessment having been done and approved by EMA, would effectively mean that several dwellers in the 4 villages would be staying in the midst of a mining location and would be exposed to unmitigated and unassessed environmental hazards.
In response to Councillor Munemo’s disapproval of Matscandnavia operations in the 4 villages, the mining company through its lawyers Zvavanoda Law Chambers, on 20 March wrote a letter of complaint to Manyame Rural District Council alleging that his conduct was adversely affecting its quarry mining project and the community’s interests, an allegation which he denies. On Friday, the hearing of the application at Marondera Magistrates Court was postponed to 2 May.

ZANU PF Councillor Sues Granite Mining Company

A 26-year-old man from Mutare will spend the next 20 months in jail following his conviction for having sexual intercourse with a young person.
In terms of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) Act [Chapter 9:23], a “Young person” means a boy or girl under the age of eighteen years.
Allegations were that the man, who has not been named, appeared before a Mutare Magistrate on charges of having sexual intercourse with a young person.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the State proved that the accused person started indulging in sexual activities with the 14-year-old complainant in February 2024 at his homestead and thereafter had sexual relations with the complainant on different occasions.
The matter came to light when the complainant suspected that she was pregnant and eloped to the accused person’s home.
The complainant’s mother reported the matter to the Police leading to the accused person’s arrest.
The man was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment of which 4 months was suspended. He will serve 20 months effectively.
In Zimbabwe, having sexual intercourse with a young person is a criminal act after President Emmerson Mnangagwa invoked the Presidential Powers Act to amend the Criminal Law Code to reinstate the age of consent to eighteen (18) years in January this year.
The age of consent is the age at which a person is considered to be legally competent to consent to sexual acts. It is the minimum age at which a person is considered old enough to be able to legally agree to sexual activity.
Statutory Instrument 2 of 2024 (Presidential Powers (Temporary Measures) (Criminal Laws (Protection of Children and Young Persons) Regulations, 2024) criminalised having sexual intercourse with anyone below the age of 18. Offenders face up to 10 years imprisonment.
Rape is committed by a male if he knowingly engages in sexual or anal intercourse with a female person without her consent. Sexual intercourse with a female below the age of twelve is also considered rape.
Furthermore, under Zimbabwe’s new Marriage Act, all marriages are entered into between men and women above 18 years of age. Facilitating marriage of children under 18 years is now considered a criminal offence.
The minimum age of marriage for both girls and boys is 18 years. It is a substantial crime to marry off a child, and anyone involved in such actions will be prosecuted.

Man (26) Jailed For Having Sexual Intercourse With A Form 1 Pupil

Self-exiled former ZANU PF Politburo member Jonathan Moyo has accused former Finance Minister Tendai Biti of cowardice following the latter’s announcement that he was taking a sabbatical from politics.
Moyo said opposition leaders in Zimbabwe tend to run away from responsibility.
This comes after the former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa quit the party in January this year, alleging infiltration by ZANU PF, followed by Fadzayi Mahere and Allan Markham who resigned from Parliament a few days later.
Posting on Twitter, Moyo said Biti is just like Chamisa, Mahere and Markham who “bolted out” and ran away from responsibility. He said:

Tendai Biti is cut from the same cloth. Only some 60 or so days after he boldly declared that he was CCC Vice President elected by that party’s congress and that he was “going nowhere”, now he says he is actually going somewhere after all; by taking “time out”; taking a “sabbatical” to go to Washington DC, of all places.
And he’s saying this at a time when he’s in fact due to take over – something he accepted to do when he knew at that time that he was due to go to the US by this fall – as CCC acting president under the ‘rotational’ arrangement they agreed to as the ‘leadership collective’ under the ‘Gweru Resolutions’.
Effectively, like Chamisa, Mahere and Markham, Biti is bolting out. He is running away from leadership responsibility. This makes sense of their mantra that they ‘need new leaders’!

Biti recently announced that he is temporarily stepping away from politics, despite earlier reports indicating that he was expected to assume the role of CCC president in rotation with the current leader, Welshman Ncube and Lynette Karenyi Kore.
Speaking on HSTV’s #FreeTalk show, Biti said he had withdrawn from politics to focus on other spaces but will remain driven to attain democratic change in Zimbabwe.

Pindula Mobile App Update: Smooth, Smaller and Fast

Six of the nine Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) members who had been jailed for three years on public violence charges were released on Monday.
The nine political activists were arrested in March 2021 after they staged a demonstration at Bulawayo Central Police Station, demanding the release of party president Mqondisi Moyo.
The Chairperson of the MRP’s Women’s National League – Sibongile Banda and Busi Moyo, were released from Mlondozi prison, while MRP’s Council of Elders representative – Tinos Nkomo, Nkosinathi Ncube, Ackim Ndebele, Liveson Ncube who were released from Harare Central Prison.
Meanwhile, three MRP members, that is, MRP Youth Chairperson, Mongameli Mlotshwa, Maxwell Nkosi and Welcome Moyo, will remain in jail for another three months as they had other charges.
In an interview with <a href="https://cite.org.zw/six-mrp-members-released-after-three-years-in-prison/">CITE</a>, an MRP official, Mbonisi Gumbo confirmed that their party members were finally out, having served time for “exercising their rights.” Said Gumbo:

We are so excited as a party, and we are happy that they came out alive considering the deplorable conditions of Zimbabwean prisons.

Another MRP member, Chilumbo Mudenda, praised their colleagues saying they had shown “great” resilience in the face of adversity. He said:

The government has reviewed the allowances of local authority employees, that is, mayors, deputy mayors, committee chairpersons and councillors.
This was revealed in a circular from the Minister for Local Government and Public Works, which was copied to the Permanent Secretary of Local Government and Public Works, and all Provincial Directors for Local Government Services, and addressed to the President of the Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe, A Shamu.
According to the circular, dated 27 February 2024, the allowances which are with effect from 1 January 2024, are as follows:

Government Reviews Allowances Of Councillors

Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations final on February 11, 2024, defeating Nigeria 2-1 at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara. It was a highly anticipated match that ended with Ivory Coast emerging as the champions.
Nigeria took the lead in the 38th minute with a goal from their captain, William Paul Troost-Ekong. However, Ivory Coast managed to equalise in the second half through Franck Yannick Kessié’s goal in the 62nd minute. The winning goal came from Sébastien Romain Teddy Haller in the 81st minute, securing the victory for Ivory Coast.
The match was intense, with both teams fighting hard for the win. Ivory Coast’s resilience and determination paid off as they were able to come from behind and snatch the victory. The fans in the stadium were ecstatic, celebrating their team’s success.
Simon Adingra, who provided two assists for Cote d’Ivoire in the final, was named the TotalEnergies Man of the Match for the final match. Despite not winning the tournament, Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong received the TotalEnergies Best Player award.

AFCON: Ivory Coast Lifts The Africa Cup of Nations Trophy Defeating Nigeria On Home Soil

The Zimbabwe National Chiefs’ Council is considering inviting people from Rwanda to learn from their experience in resolving conflicts. The Gukurahundi hearings, set to start next month, aim to bring closure to the disturbances that occurred in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces in the 1980s. Chiefs will lead the hearings in their communities and gather evidence from victims and witnesses.
The council is preparing well for the hearings and is ready to meet the victims and witnesses. They hope to start the process early next month. Chief Charumbira, vice-president of the Zimbabwe National Chiefs’ Council, was quoted by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zimbabwe-chiefs-seek-to-learn-from-rwandas-reconciliation-process/">Chronicle</a> as saying:

In 1994, Rwanda experienced a genocide where over a million people were killed in 100 days. Hutus and Tutsis, who were involved in the conflict, are now working together to revive Rwanda’s industries and attract foreign investment.
The Secretary for Information, Nick Mangwana, emphasised the importance of responsible reporting by the media. He urged them to avoid sensationalism and bias, as some sections of the Rwandan media worsened the conflict or ignored the disturbances. Rwanda is focusing on healing and reconciliation, and their collaboration shows the power of unity, something Zimbabwe intends to learn.

Ms. Gumbonzvanda is the Founder and Executive Director for Rozaria Memorial Trust based in Zimbabwe.  Prior to that, she served as the General Secretary of the World Young Women’s Christian Association and United Nations Development Fund for Women Regional Programming Director in the East and Horn of Africa.  She has also served in the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as the Human Rights Officer in Liberia and National Child Rights Adviser in Zimbabwe.  Before joining UNICEF, she served as the Interim Coordinator for the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association and Assistant Law Officer at the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Constitutional Affairs of Zimbabwe, and was also appointed the first African Union Goodwill Ambassador on Ending Child Marriage.  
Ms. Gumbonzvanda holds a Doctor of Laws degree (Honoris Causa) from the University of Massachusetts, USA, a Master in Laws degree from the University of South Africa, Post Graduate Certificate in Conflict Transformation from the Uppsala University, Sweden, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean Lawyer Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda Lands Deputy Executive Director At The United Nations

Acting President Dr. Constantino Guvhenya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga has issued a statement regarding a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/12/27/four-killed-in-marondera-accident-involving-bus-mercedes-benz-haulage-truck/">road traffic accident</a> on the Harare-Mutare Highway. The accident resulted in the loss of 5 lives and left 40 people injured. The Acting President expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. In a statement seen by Pindula News, he said the State will cover funeral expenses and medical bills for the injured. Chiwenga added that Law enforcement agencies will take strict measures against irresponsible drivers. The Acting President urged motorists and public transport operators to exercise caution, and passengers to contribute to their own safety. We present the statement below.

I received with heartfelt grief the loss of 5 fellow citizens following a bus accident which occurred at the 64km peg along the Harare- Mutare highway at approximately 9:45 am on Wednesday 27 December 2023.
The accident involved a Micro-cut Investment truck (AGJ1306) travelling from Beira to Harare, a Mercedes Benz, and an Inter Africa bus (AEZ1226) travelling from Harare to Nyanga – Ruwangwe. The truck driver had 3 passengers and all escaped unharmed. The Mercedes Benz driver and 1 passenger were also unharmed.
A total of 40 people were injured and initially admitted of whom 32 were discharged. Six remain hospitalized at Marondera Provincial Hospital where two were transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for specialized attention and treatment.
The glaring images shows the horrendous nature of the accident.
In terms of Section 32 paragraph C of the Civil Protection Act, Chapter 10.06, as the Acting President,I have invoked the relevant Sections of the Civil Protection Act to enable the State to render funeral assistance to the bereaved families and meet the medical bills of the injured.
On behalf of the Nation, and on my own behalf, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. As a humble token of sharing in the grief, the Government of Zimbabwe in conjunction with the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe will meet the burial costs of all the deceased and provide medical assistance for the injured. As we express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families, we also wish those receiving treatment a speedy recovery.
I urge the Marondera District Civil Protection Committee to quickly establish a Command Centre for expediting the collection of the deceased and providing pyscho-social support to the bereaved families.
Whilst efforts are being made to give education and awareness on traffic safety on our highways, all motorists and public transport operators are implored to always exercise a high degree of caution and care on the roads.
Law enforcement agencies and responsible authorities, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police will ensure that stringent measures are taken to deal with errant drivers along major highways. Culprits will face the full wrath of the law.
I urge passengers to contribute towards their safety and prevent the spreading of drivers. As we count our losses and mourn the deceased, it is my sincere hope that this will be a wake-up call and serve as an opportunity for all of us to fulfil a collective responsibility towards the safety of all travellers.

Acting President Chiwenga's Statement On The Harare-Mutare Road Traffic Accident

Former Dynamos player and coach, David George, has died at the age of 71. George, who was affectionately known as “Broom Boy” during his playing days, reportedly died on Saturday at his home in Glen Norah, Harare after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. The news of his death has left the Zimbabwean football community in mourning.
George was a renowned player in the 1970s and played a significant role for local premiership giants Dynamos. He was part of the team that achieved great success, winning several cup tournaments including the league title, Nyore Nyore Charity Shield, BAT Rosebowl, Castle Cup, and Southern African Champions of Champions Cup in 1976. He played alongside well-known players such as Matthew Mwale, Shadreck Ngwenya, and Sunday Chidzambwa, among others.
After retiring as a player in 1983 due to an injury, George continued his involvement in football as a coach. He served as an assistant to Sunday Chidzambwa when Dynamos reached the finals of the 1998 Caf Champions League and also assisted David Mandigora in the same competition in 2007 when the team reached the semifinals.

Dynamos Legend David George Has Died

A man named Themba Mathe appeared in court on Tuesday and admitted to trying to kill his parents by setting their house on fire. The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and blamed “evil spirits” for his actions.
Mathe tied the door of his parents’ bedroom hut from the outside and set the roof on fire while they were sleeping inside. Luckily, his father and stepmother managed to escape without getting hurt. The fire destroyed everything inside the house, <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/man-says-he-fears-son-more-than-a-lion-after-he-tries-to-kill-him-in-fire/">ZimLive</a> reported. Mathe was caught hiding in the bush by his parents and neighbours. In court, he explained that he did it as revenge because he believed his father didn’t love him. Mathe said:

I admit to these two counts of attempted murder. I acted in the way I did for two reasons, firstly it was out of revenge because my parents don’t love me, they don’t take me as their own son and deny me food. They had chased me away from home and I was now staying with my grandfather Pharaoh Mathe of the same village.
Secondly, I don’t know what got over me. I suspect it could have been evil spirits behind my actions. I am really sorry for what I did.

His father who was the main witness for the prosecution, expressed fear of his son in court. He requested that the court impose a lengthy prison sentence on Themba, hoping that it would teach him important lessons for his life while behind bars.

I’ve never been so scared in my life. I stared death face-to-face and lost all my property valued at US$600. I’m more scared of my son than I am of a lion! As I stand here, my wife and I have nothing under our name. I now sleep in the kitchen and we have no food.

He added that he wished for his son to be jailed so that he could learn important life lessons and how to get along with others. He denied Themba’s claim that they kicked him out of the house, saying that Themba’s own mischievous behaviour caused problems and even led to him being beaten by people in their community.
Mathe is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday.
