The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has confirmed the arrival of several foreign dignitaries who will attend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration at the National Sports Stadium in Harare this Monday, 04 September.
The Chairperson of SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema, has sent his Foreign Minister Stanley Kakubo to attend the event.

LIST: Foreign Dignitaries Set To Attend Mnangagwa's Inauguration

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy will attend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration ceremony this Monday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning announced on Monday that Zhou Qiang, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, will attend the inauguration at the invitation of Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa will be officially sworn in this Monday, 04 September, at the National Sports Stadium in Harare for his second and final term as President of Zimbabwe.
Several heads of State will send representatives to Mnangagwa’s inauguration, with only a few regional leaders attending in person.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi and Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi are the heads of State expected to attend the event.
Rwanda President Paul Kagame will be represented by Senate President François Xavier Kalinda, while Belarus will be represented by its deputy Prime minister.
Tanzania’s Prime Minister will be representing the country, while Nigeria will be represented by its Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Kenya will be represented by its prime Cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Chinese President's Special Envoy, Zhou Qiang, To Attend Mnangagwa Inauguration

The Government has dispatched at least three buses to each of the country’s 210 National Assembly constituencies to ferry people to Harare to attend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration.
Mnangagwa will be officially sworn in this Monday at the National Sports Stadium in Harare for his second and final term as President of Zimbabwe.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200016201/700-buses-dispatched-for-ed-inauguration">NewsDay</a> reported a government official, who said he was not authorised to release information to the media, as saying that each constituency had been allocated at least three buses. Said the official:

There will be at least three buses per constituency to transport people to the National Sports Stadium.
[Local Government minister] July Moyo is responsible for transport logistics. He can shed more light.
</blockquote>
When contacted for comment by NewsDay, Moyo referred questions to the Office of the President and Cabinet.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF political commissar Mike Bimha said the buses will ferry all interested citizens regardless of political affiliation. He said:

ZANU PF provincial chairpersons will have their own logistical arrangements in terms of transport to ferry people to the inauguration.

Over 600 Buses To Ferry Villagers To Attend Mnangagwa Inauguration

South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, is set to attend the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, on Monday 04 September 2023.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the National Sports Stadium in the capital city Harare.
Ramaphosa’s office released a statement on Sunday evening announcing that he will travel to Zimbabwe for the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony.
He will be accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Dr Naledi Pandor.

Last week, a prominent South African opposition figure, Mmusi Maimane, who is the leader of the Build One South Africa movement (BOSA), urged Ramaphosa not to attend the inauguration.
Maimane argued that by attending Mnangagwa’s inauguration, Ramaphosa would be undermining the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) on the Zimbabwe elections.
In a previous statement, SADC’s Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) said that the manner in which the Harmonised Elections were conducted “fell short of the requirements of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Electoral Act, and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections…”

Cyril Ramaphosa To Attend Mnangagwa’s Inauguration

The Government of Zimbabwe has invited former Zambia president, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, to attend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration on Monday, 04 September.
The decision to invite a former Head of State to attend the inauguration has been described <a href="https://twitter.com/ali_naka/status/1698281952116130028?s=20">by critics</a> as a desperate move by the Government to garner international recognition after the SADC Election Observer Mission (SEOM) questioned the credibility of the 23 August elections in its preliminary report.
Zimbabwe, through its Ambassador to Zambia, Charity Charamba, wrote to Lungu on 02 September 2023, inviting him to attend the ceremony set to be held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare. Reads the letter:

Meanwhile, posting on X, Information Ministry Secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana said at least two presidents from South Africa and Mozambique expected to attend the inauguration.

Former Zambia President, Edgar Lungu, Invited To Mnangagwa Inauguration

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has assigned veteran former Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambga and Sheasham coach Lizwe Sweswe to take charge of a Warriors squad of locally-based players for Monday, 04 September’s match against Namibia.
The friendly match will be one of several activities lined up for President-Elect Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration at the National Sports Stadium.
Twenty locally-based players have been selected to be in the Warriors squad to face the Brave Warriors.

Warriors Squad For Mnangagwa Inauguration Match Revealed

Former Dynamos and Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambga has been selected to lead locally-based Warriors players in an exhibition match against Namibia at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration on Monday.
He will be assisted by Sheasham coach Lizwe Sweswe who has previously coached FC Platinum and Bulawayo Chiefs.
The Warriors of Zimbabwe will take on the Brave Warriors of Namibia at the National Sports Stadium, the venue for the inauguration, tomorrow.
The match will be the Warriors’ first international match since FIFA lifted its suspension of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) from international football in July this year.
The Normalisation Committee appointed by FIFA to run the affairs of ZIFA until July 2024, is organising tomorrow’s game.
Despite recently advertising the Warriors coach post, the Normalisation Committee hasn’t yet started the recruitment process.
Speaking in a recent interview with a local daily publication, ZIFA Normalisation Committee boss Lincoln Mutasa said that more than 200 coaches have applied for jobs to coach Zimbabwe’s national football teams; the Warriors, Mighty Warriors, Young Warriors and the Young Mighty Warriors.
Mutasa, however, refused to reveal some of the coaches who have submitted their CVs.
Meanwhile, “Mhofu”, as Chidzambga is affectionately known by football fans, is the only coach to take Zimbabwe to two different AFCON finals (2004 and 2019).
The match between the Warriors and the Brave Warriors will kick off at 15:00.

Chidzambga Appointed Warriors Coach For ED Inauguration Match

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party has reportedly abandoned plans to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s declared election win in court.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared Mnangagwa the winner of the 23 August 2023 presidential election with 52.6% of the vote against CCC’s Nelson Chamisa’s 44%.
Chamisa rejected the results alleging rigging, and his party has demanded a fresh election.
<a href="https://twitter.com/zimlive/status/1698047663927590950?s=20">ZimLive</a> reported that a CCC legal team led by Jeremiah Bamu and David Coltart drafted papers for the Constitutional Court and had planned to file online at midday on Saturday.
The report added that after intense internal discussions, strategists decided that going to court would give Mnangagwa the “court endorsement he craves.”
Bulawayo-based lawyer Dumisani Dube told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200016165/chamisa-keeps-ed-guessing-amid-tension">The Standard</a> that Chamisa has up to Monday, 04 September to file a petition at the ConCourt. He said:

There is still up to Monday for them to file the court application challenging the election outcome.
Once the application has been filed, the Chief Justice cannot proceed with the swearing-in of the president-elect until the matter has been finalised.
</blockquote>
The Government late on Saturday announced that Mnangagwa’s inauguration is set to take place on Monday, 04 September at the National Sports Stadium.

Chamisa Abandons Court Challenge | Report

President-Elect Emmerson Mnangagwa will be officially inaugurated and sworn into office on Monday, 04 September 2023 for his second and final term.
In a statement, Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, said the ceremony will be held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare and members of the public are free to attend. Reads the statement:

The nation is hereby informed that the inauguration ceremony for His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will be held on Monday 04 September 2023. 
This follows his resounding re-election in the 2023 Harmonised Elections.
The main celebrations will be held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare followed by a luncheon at State House for invited dignitaries.
Members of the public who wish to attend are advised that gates open at 6 AM and buses are available to transport those in need.
A number of artists are lined up to perform at the inauguration ceremonies which will be headlined by Jah Prayzah, Chief Hwenje and Sandra Ndebele and others.
A football match between the Zimbabwe Warriors and the Namibian National Team known as the Brave Warriors will follow the inauguration ceremony.
All Zimbabweans are welcome to witness this glorious celebration at the National Sports Stadium.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has already sent out letters to foreign embassies inviting them to the inauguration on Monday.
The Foreign Affairs Secretary James Manzou said diplomats whose leaders will not be attending the ceremony should not come.

Mnangagwa Inauguration Set For 04 September

Build One South Africa (BOSA) movement leader Mmusi Maimane has urged South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, not to attend the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of Zimbabwean President-elect, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa is set to be sworn in as Zimbabwe’s leader for a second and final term on 04 September at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
In a letter addressed to heads of State, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ministry permanent secretary James Manzou said Mnagangwa’s official inauguration will take place on Monday.
However, Maimane, who is a vocal critic of Zimbabwe’s ZANU PF party, said that by attending, Ramaphosa would be undermining the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) on the Zimbabwe elections.
In a post on Twitter, now X, Maimane warned that by attending Mnangagwa’s swearing-in ceremony, Ramaphosa would be prolonging the “crisis” in Zimbabwe. He wrote:

Do not attend this inauguration @CyrilRamaphosa do not undermine SADC and do not extend the crisis in Zimbabwe which is affecting South Africa.

The Nelson Chamisa led MDC has responded to Zanu-PF’s statement criticising the inauguration of the opposition party leader during the 19th anniversary celebrations held at Gwanzura Stadium on Saturday.
In a statement issued by party spokesperson Jacob Mafume, MDC said the statement issued by Zanu-PF borders on malice and is bent on inciting violence. MDC says the statement is an attempt by Zanu-Pf to cover up for its electoral theft. The opposition party demands an apology from Zanu-PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo and a retraction of the statement. We publish part of the MDC statement below:
<blockquote>The MDC notes with concern a statement from ZANU PF through its spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo, we find the statement to be desperate bordering on malice and bent on disrupting the prevailing atmosphere of peace.
Such statements are unacceptable especially coming from a senior politician who claims to be a patriot; no patriot will utter words with potential to incite citizens against each other.
There is nothing treasonous about what the MDC or Vice President did, those were moments of happiness and celebrations.
It is clear to all that Zanu PF’s attempts to cover up for its electoral theft has failed. The people are aware that the people’s President is Nelson Chamisa. It is therefore no crime for them to acknowledge that.
The MDC will not allow anyone to criminalize the right to assemble or express ourselves.
The MDC is aware that failed Zanu PF did not want us to hold this gathering in the first place.
They used all sorts of excuses including hiding behind cholera. We have seen attempts by Zanu PF to monopolize political space, they tried to close democratic space relentlessly.
The MDC leadership has been persecuted; ordinary Zimbabweans were killed on the 1st of August.
One is on trial for insulting Chigumba , the other for insulting Mnangagwa a similar trend which we saw under Mugabe.
The past has never left.
Khaya Moyo’s statements are therefore part of the method in the madness; they are not isolated from these barbaric acts.
We demand that he reverses these statements forthwith; he must apologize to the MDC and the people of Zimbabwe for an unwarranted attempt to malign the party of excellence.
The MDC will ensure a democratic, just and free society where the rights of citizens are not curtailed.
The time for super citizens who criminalise everything except boot licking of Zanu PF leaders is coming to an end.
We remain resolute. We remain the winners.

MDC Responds To Zanu-PF Criticism Of Chamisa Inauguration, Demands Apology, Retraction

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Zanu-PF Youth League Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Lewis Matutu told MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa not to go ahead with his plans to hold a swearing-in ceremony at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield, Harare, on Saturday.
Matutu told Chamisa that Zimbabwe is not Kenya and he must not take advice from Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga who was “inaugurated” the same way in January after losing the Presidential election in his country. Said Matutu:
<blockquote>We know it is not all MDC Alliance members who support his actions. He wants to disturb the peace in the country and lead innocent young people astray. We, however, urge the youths not to be used. The focus now following the appointment of the Cabinet by His Excellency the President is on development and improving the people’s livelihoods. He (Mr Chamisa) should know that Zimbabwe is not Kenya and that he is not Mr Odinga. We are aware that he is taking advice from Mr Odinga, that advice is not constructive for Zimbabwe.</blockquote>

Zimbabwe Is Not Kenya: Zanu-PF Youth League Warns Chamisa Over Inauguration

Former president Robert Mugabe who had previously declared that he was not going to vote for his former protegee, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is on the programme for Mnangagwa’s inauguration at the National Sports Stadium. Mugabe and his wife, former first lady Grace Mugabe are expected to lead the list of former presidents and heads of states in congratulating Mnangagwa and shaking his hand. Until now, Mugabe had refused to appear in public endorsing his former lieutenant.

Mugabe was not able to attend the inauguration and sent his daughter Bona Mugabe Chikore in his stead.  Bona who was accompanied by her husband Simba Chikore, delivered a letter in which Mugabe said that he was unable to attend the function because he was not feeling well.  He also said, that Grace was not well but congratulated Mnangagwa on his victory.

Zanu-PF’s Paul Mangwana says the inauguration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be on Sunday after the constitutional court upheld his election win.
Mangwana said the event will be held at the National Sports Stadium in Harare and will begin at 10:00. Section 94 (b) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe states that in the event of a challenge to the validity of their election, the President assumes office within forty-eight hours after the Constitutional Court has declared them to be the winners.
