Police in Tsholotsho are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident involving a donkey-drawn scotch cart, which occurred along an unnamed road in the Mazibulala Line area on Sunday, 09 February.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), a 23-year-old man was run over by the cart and died on the spot. The cart did not stop after the accident.
In a separate but similar incident, ZRP Bulawayo Traffic West is investigating another hit-and-run accident that happened along Ngwenya Road near Goveya shops on Saturday.
Police said an unknown motorist hit a 30-year-old man and sped off, leaving the victim with severe head injuries.
The Road Traffic Act Chapter 13:11, Section 70 outlines the duties of drivers involved in accidents. Section 70(2) states that drivers must stop immediately if their vehicle is involved in an accident causing injury, property damage, or the death of a person or animal. Failure to stop is a serious criminal offence, commonly referred to as hit-and-run.
After stopping, drivers must ascertain whether anyone has been killed or injured and render any possible assistance. If someone has died, the driver must take reasonable measures to guard the corpse until the police arrive.
Drivers are required to alert the police immediately if the accident involves another vehicle or is serious. Measures should be taken to contact the nearest police station or traffic police general line.
Police should attend to all accident scenes, and it is an offence to tamper with evidence at an accident scene.

In another hit-and-run incident on the same day, an unidentified man, approximately 30 years old, was killed after being hit by an unknown motorist along Magoda Road, opposite OK Supermarket in Pamubhedha, Budiro 5, Harare.
The victim was subsequently taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Police are urging anyone with information related to either incident to come forward.

Man Waiting For Transport Dies In Hit-and-Run Accident In Harare

Police in Harare are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on October 1, along Robert Mugabe Road near VED Eastlea.
According to the ZRP, a Toyota Hiace Kombi carrying eight passengers struck a 25-year-old woman, causing her to fall to the ground.
Tragically, the victim was then run over by three unidentified vehicles that were trailing behind the kombi.
Shockingly, none of these vehicles stopped to render assistance after the accident, further compounding the tragedy. Police said:

Harare Woman Dies After Being Struck By Multiple Vehicles

A police officer was hit by an unknown motorist while controlling traffic in Harare Central Business District on 10 January.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Leopold Takawira and Samora Machel, Harare. The motorist did not stop.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said:
At about 1:45 PM at the intersection of Leopold Takawira and Samora Machel, a police officer was hit by an unknown motorist while controlling traffic. The motorist did not stop after the accident.
The officer sustained bruises on the right leg. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.
Cases of motorists who hit pedestrians or other vehicles on the roads and speed off without rendering assistance have been on the rise in recent years.
For instance, in the first half of 2022, police recorded 2 480 hit-and-run accidents.
According to the law, drivers should stop and render assistance. Magistrates tend to impose higher sentences when someone is killed since the assistance might well have saved a life.

Traffic Cop Injured In Hit-and-run Incident

Seventy (70) people were arrested by the police on Friday, 24 November for obstructing the free movement of traffic and people as they were performing rituals at the scene of a hit-and-run accident in Mbare, Harare.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said a man was killed in a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident in Mbare on Wednesday.
Two days later, 70 mourners who were aboard two trucks and were en route to Granville Cemetery (Kumbudzi) disembarked at the scene of the accident and started to sing and dance resulting in their arrest by the police. ZRP said:

A truck veered off the road and struck two boys who were playing in the yard at a house in Epworth, Harare on Saturday, 25 November.
Police said one of the boys, aged 11 died, while his colleague, aged 10, was injured in the incident.

Police have launched a manhunt for one Evans Vengwa who allegedly hit six pedestrians along Kadoma Patchway Road on 22 January this year.

Honda Fit Driver Ploughs Into Six Pedestrians In Kadoma

A 17-year-old was hit by a train at the 253 km peg, Ruwa on 29 October 2022 at around 0755 hours while walking along the Harare-Mutare railway line putting on earphones.
A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) statement seen by Pindula News warns members of the public against putting on headphones or earphones while walking on the roads or crossing railway lines.
Police say this may diminish the ability to perceive or hear, thereby increasing the likelihood of being struck by a motor vehicle or train.
Meanwhile, police in Harare recorded a serious hit-and-run road traffic accident where a man (32) was run over on the left by a Toyota Sienta vehicle, registration number AFW 9839, at the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Julius Nyerere Way.
The motorist briefly stopped and sped off. The victim sustained an injury on the left foot and was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment. Investigations are underway.
The ZRP reiterates that motorists should stop, assist the injured, if necessary, and report all road traffic accidents to the Police within 24 hours.

Teenager Hit By Train While Walking Along The Railway Putting Earphones

Two people died following a hit-and-run Saturday evening along Seke Road. 
A police statement seen by Pindula News says one victim died on the spot while the other died upon admission at Chitungwiza Hospital. Reads the statement:

Two People Die In A Hit-and-run Incident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of Tinotenda Kalulu who was a passenger in a Toyota Hiace which hit an Isuzu KB 250 vehicle from behind and escaped from the scene.
A police report seen by Pindula News says the driver of the Isuzu KB 250 attempted to record particulars of the Toyota Hiace but Kalulu obstructed him. The report does not clarify how Kalulu did that. Reads the report:

Meanwhile, tongues are still wagging over the death of Joyce Tandi a 17-year-old girl who died after she was hit by Passion Java’s vehicle along Seke Road on Tuesday last week.
The family dismissed as not true the reports which suggested that Tandi, who was a member of the AFM in Zimbabwe Sunningdale 3 Assembly, was pregnant at the time of her death.
The family also said an offer by Passion Java to extend scholarships to Tandi’s children if she had any was an insult to the family considering that he never engaged the family to know his victim.

Hit And Run: Police Hunting Driver As Victim Dies On Spot

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has expressed concern over an alarming rise in hit and run cases across the country.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said on 2 May this year, a 29-year-old man was hit by a Hino Sino truck at the intersection of Five Avenue and Sam Nujoma Street in Harare.
The victim sustained some head injuries and died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
In another hit and run incident that occurred on 3 May, a pedestrian aged 68 was knocked down by a Toyota Coaster along Bulawayo Road near the Kuwadzana roundabout. The victim died on the spot.
On the same day, a woman (34) also died on the spot after she was hit by a Nissan Caravan whilst trying to cross Mutare Road, near Mutangadura in Harare.
Asst Comm Nyathi urged motorists and pedestrians to always be observant on the roads.

Rise In Hit And Run Incidents Worry Police

A Zambian truck driver has been fined $6 000 or serve four months in a Zimbabwean jail after he hit a motorcyclist and drove off without stopping or reporting the accident.
Eugine Banda (43) who is employed by SANHE Transport and Logistics based in Kabwe in Zambia, hit Phillip Sibanda who was cycling along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road last month.
Banda, who was reportedly speeding and failed to apply brakes, was carrying 33 000kg of cobalt hydroxide and did not stop after hitting Sibanda leaving him for dead at the 392km peg.
Banda was arrested following investigations and was hauled before Victoria Falls magistrate Linda Dzvene facing three counts of negligent driving, failure to stop after a serious accident and failing to render assistance to the injured person.
He pleaded guilty to all three counts and the magistrate slapped him with a fine of $6 000 or be jailed for four months in default.
Prosecuting, Asher Chindedza said Sibanda fractured his leg and sustained some injuries and police officers who attended the scene referred him to Victoria Falls Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Hit And Run Zambian Trucker Fined $6 000

An errant motorist has been arrested for negligent driving after a video went viral on social media in which his motor vehicle hit a pedestrian at traffic lights in Harare.
According to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Herbert Chakanyuka ((57), hit Mitchelle Kamupfumo (7) at the traffic lights controlled intersection of Liberation Legacy Way (Borrowdale Road) and Harare Drive. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

Viral Video Assists Police Nab Hit And Run Driver

A motorist knocked down a police officer who was among a security team manning a security checkpoint in Harare recently and fled from the scene.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement said that the incident occurred on Tuesday along Kirkman Road in Harare.
The suspect, who was driving a pink Honda Fit registration numbers ACU 0175, was pursued to Westlea where he dumped the vehicle and fled on foot. Said Asst Insp Nyathi:

On 26/01/21, a motorist driving a pink Honda Fit registration numbers ACU 0175 approached a Police Roadblock along Kirkman Road, Harare and hit a Police Officer on the security checkpoint.
After the accident, the driver did not stop and was pursued up-to Westlea, where he dumped the motor vehicle and fled. Investigations are in progress.</blockquote>
