Highlanders’ head coach, Baltemar Brito, has left the club and returned to Portugal after less than two seasons. His departure was confirmed by his assistant, Antonio Torres, who stated that they had reached an agreement with the club to part ways, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200020477/brito-leaves-highlanders">NewsDay</a> reported. Torres, who also acted as Brito’s translator, revealed their plans to travel from Germany to Portugal. He said:

We are in Germany now en route to Portugal. I  can confirm that we are done with Highlanders, there is not much I can talk about but we have agreed with the club.
</blockquote>
He also took to his Facebook page to express his gratitude and bid farewell to Highlanders. He said:

Highlanders such a big institution, was a big pleasure for me to belong to that family; very passionate supporters that are really the heart of that institution. With the departure of Brito and Torres, Highlanders face a significant change in their coaching staff. It remains uncertain who will take over as the new coach and how this transition will impact the team’s performance. The club will need to adjust to this new phase and work towards maintaining its success in future seasons.
The Bulawayo-based club has not yet commented on the departure of coach Baltemar Brito. Reports from last month suggested that the club would not renew Brito’s contract when it expires on 31 December 2023. Brito, who took over the team in June last year, could not lead Highlanders to their first league title since 2006. Despite uncertainty about his future, he was appointed as the coach of the national team, the Warriors, in September. Brito guided Zimbabwe to two draws in the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria. With his departure from Highlanders, he will now focus on his role as the national team coach.

Baltemar Brito Has Left Highlanders And Returned To Portugal

Dynamos football club secured a single point when they played against Black Rhinos in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League on Sunday to close the gap between them and the current league leaders, Ngezi Platinum, who lost to Hwange at the Colliery. However, some Dynamos fans were disappointed with the nill-all draw, as they believe Dynamos could have taken advantage of Ngezi Platinum’s loss and earned three points instead. Said one supporter:

Unfortunately, Dynamos had some challenges with player availability due to injuries and suspensions. Coach Genesis Mangombe said Dynamos’ defence suffered three injuries in Kevin, Elvis and Dzvinyai ahead of the match. Makarati and Shandirwa are suspended and Brandon Mpofu has a family issue. He added:

The 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season is nearing its conclusion, with only four matches remaining.
Meanwhile, Highlanders and CAPS United played to a one-all draw at Babourfields Stadium in Bulawayo. CAPS United took the lead with a long-range strike from Rodrick Chinyengetere, but Highlanders fought back in the second half with Mason Mushore scoring the equalizer. The match had a relatively low attendance as both teams are not performing well this season.
In another match, Yadah dominated with a six-nil victory over ZPC Kariba, showing their determination to avoid relegation. Yadah moved up to 13th place in the league standings, while Kariba dropped two places.

Castle Lager PSL Title: Dynamos Close In On Ngezi Platinum

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club/">Dynamos</a> received mixed news from the Premier Soccer League regarding their abandoned match against <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Highlanders_Football_Club/">Highlanders</a>. They were awarded maximum points with a 3-0 scoreline, but were also fined US$3,500. The fine was a result of the violent behaviour displayed by some Dynamos fans at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Barbourfields_Stadium/">Barbourfields</a> last month in response to threats from Highlanders supporters.
Highlanders also faced sanctions, with vice-captain Peter Muduhwa receiving a US$500 fine and a four-match suspension, <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/dembare-get-bonus-peter-muduhwa-suspended/">H-Metro</a> reported.
Despite the penalty, Dynamos moved up to fourth place in the standings with 43 points, trailing league leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars by eight points. Highlanders remained in third place with 45 points.
The judgment stated that the match commissioner reported that the violence was initiated by some Highlanders fans who were unhappy with a referee’s decision. Read the judgment in part:

It is also not an issue that the missile throwing and pitch invasion was initiated and instigated by the Highlanders fans who were not happy with the referee’s decision not to award a penalty for what they perceived as a foul on their player in the penalty box.
According to the match commissioner, Mr Kusosa, some Highlanders supporters got on the pitch, threw a few missiles and retreated. Thereafter, those in blue and white also invaded the pitch in retaliation.
However, when those in black and white came back in greater numbers those in blue and white withdrew and ran away as they were outnumbered.
Even those Dynamos fans occupying the Mpilo end of the stadium also ran away.

A group of unruly fans stormed the pitch to protest a decision made by match officials and the match was abandoned. The outnumbered police officers present had to retreat as Highlanders fans threw objects. Barbourfields Violence: Dynamos Gets 3 Points, Highlanders Punished

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/09/21/baltemar-brito-appointed-warriors-coach-until-june-2024/">recently appointed Warriors technical team</a>, led by Baltemar Brito, has announced the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Football_Team/">Warriors</a> squad consisting of local players that is set to take on Botswana in an invitational match at the end of this month. The team comprises talented players from various prominent teams in the current Zimbabwe premiership football competition, including Ngezi Platinum, Highlanders, Manica Diamonds, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club/">Dynamos</a>, and others.
Baltemar Brito, who currently serves as the coach for Highlanders FC, has been appointed as the interim Warriors coach until June 30 of next year. He will be assisted by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bongani_Mafu/">Bongani Mafu</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Genesis_Mangombe/">Genesis Mangombe</a> in his coaching role. He was appointed by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)/">ZIFA</a> Normalisation Committee to prepare the Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, commencing in November.

Baltemar Brito Has Announced The Warriors Squad To Play Botswana This Month

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Yadah_FC/">Yadah Football Club</a> has requested a change of venue for its match against <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Highlanders_Football_Club/">Highlanders Football Club</a> from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Barbourfields_Stadium/">Barbourfields Stadium</a> citing concerns about the security situation in Bulawayo.
The club said it is hesitant to travel there due to recent incidents where Highlanders supporters threw objects and invaded the pitch during a match against <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club/">Dynamos Football Club</a>, resulting in abandonment. Yadah believes that their players, officials, and supporters may be at risk in such an environment. As a result, they have formally requested a change of venue for the match, suggesting Bata Stadium in Gweru as an alternative.
In their letter to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Premier_Soccer_League/">Premier Soccer League</a>, Yadah’s lawyers argued that the referees might face pressure from Highlanders supporters, potentially affecting their impartiality. Said the club’s lawyers:

In light of these circumstances, our client, Yadah FC, is of the firm view that the safety and well-being of its fans, players, and officials as well as other stakeholders which is of paramount importance have since been compromised in the wake of its impending fixture against Highlanders.
Consequent to these unfortunate events, our client is of the firm belief that it will be extremely challenging for it to receive fair treatment from the match officials.
The psychological impact of the violence, coupled with the lack of accountability for those responsible, casts a shadow of doubt on the objectivity and impartiality of the officiating team that will be in charge of the match in circumstances where the Highlanders fans will be in attendance.
This situation greatly undermines the principles of fair play and jeopardises the integrity of the game.
Our client anticipates that its players will be inhibited from performing to their full potential due to the fear of incensing Highlanders FC supporters. This fear could lead to a detrimental effect on their performance, resulting in an unfair competition, where the principle of fair play cannot be achieved.
All the circumstances considered, particularly the volatile and unsafe environment as well as the potential risks involved, we are instructed to request for a change of venue and subsequently propose an alternative solution for the upcoming match against Highlanders FC, which is likely to be played before the prevailing situation stabilises.
We are instructed to formally request, as we hereby do, for a change of venue for the aforementioned match from Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo to Bata Stadium in Gweru or any other neutral venue which is located outside the City of Bulawayo.
</blockquote>
Yadah said they had also notified the Sports and Recreation Commission about the issue.
The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police/">Zimbabwe Republic Police</a> has arrested 12 individuals believed to be connected to the violence at Barbourfields Stadium. Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi/">Paul Nyathi</a>, the national police spokesman, confirmed the arrests and stated that two suspects were charged with violating the Firearms Act, four with criminal nuisance, and six with public violence. Nyathi assured the public that comprehensive investigations are ongoing to hold all involved individuals accountable.

Yadah FC Wants Highlanders Match Moved From Barbourfields Stadium Over Security Reasons

Highlanders Football Club (Bosso) defeated their neighbours, Bulawayo Chiefs, on Sunday afternoon to top the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) table. M Ndlovu’s goal in the 19th minute secured the three points for Highlanders.
In another match, Dynamos Football Club (Dembare) beat ZPC Kariba by three goals to nil, with goals from Chakona (1), Mudadi (2).
Hwange lost to Manica Diamonds, who secured their victory through a goal from Binzi in the 4th minute.
Green Fuel also lost to reigning champions, FC Platinum, with Mutimbanyoka scoring the only goal for the Zvishavane-based club in the 59th minute.
On Saturday, Cranborne Bullets defeated CAPS United by two goals to one, with goals from S Munhira and Manokore. CAPS United got their consolation goal from Manondo. 
Chicken Inn beat Black Rhinos by a goal to nil, while Sheasham played a nil-nil draw against Herentals. Simba Bhora drew with Triangle United in a 1-1 match, with A Manenji scoring for Simba Bhora and A Makopa for Triangle.
On Monday 05 June 2023, Yadah will face off against Ngezi Platinum at the National Sports Stadium. Ngezi have a chance to top the table if they win their game in hand since they are trailing Hilanders by two points.

Castle Lager PSL Results: Highlanders, Dynamos Win

Seventeen-year-old Highlanders Football Club attacking midfielder Prince Ndlovu was denied a visa to travel to Croatia for a month-long trial.
Ndlovu is back in Bulawayo, with his representatives said to have travelled to South Africa on Monday to lodge an appeal.
The Bosso teenage sensation received an invitation to attend trials at Croatian second-tier club HNK Vukovar 1991 that is scheduled to start on Friday, February 10 and end on March 9.
Impeccable sources told <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/prince-ndlovu-denied-visa-lodges-appeal/">Chronicle Sport</a> that one of the officials, presumably the player’s representative who is supposed to accompany Ndlovu to Croatia “is making frantic efforts” to try and have the visa appeal attended to so that the player leaves by Thursday. Said the source:

Prince is back in Bulawayo having spent about two weeks in South Africa where he was processing his visa for Croatia. Unfortunately, the application was denied and one of the two guys who is supposed to travel with him is in South Africa to lodge an appeal.
They feel there are strong grounds for appeal and at the moment everyone’s keeping their fingers crossed that they manage to get the visa so that the boy travels for this lifetime opportunity.

According to an invitation letter signed by HNK Vukovar 1991 president Ivan Strek which was also used for the initial visa application, Samson Kabwe and Nduduzo Sibanda are supposed to accompany Ndlovu for the trial stint.
Kabwe and Sibanda are travelling as the player’s coach and administrator, an indication that the pair could be facilitators of the deal.
Highlanders communications officer, Nozibelo Maphosa told the Chronicle that Ndlovu is back in Bulawayo after attending to personal matters in South Africa.
Reports, however, suggest that the winger who left the country a fortnight ago had been training with Orlando Pirates while waiting for his visa.

Highlanders' Prince Ndlovu Denied Visa To Travel To Croatia

Highlanders Football Club has announced that it has entered into a partnership deal with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dandemutande">Utande Internet providers</a> that will see the latter paying salaries for the club’s first-team players.
The Bulawayo-based Castle Lager Premier Soccer League giants announced on Saturday:

We are glad to announce that we have tied down a six-month partnership deal with Utande Internet Service providers.
In this arrangement, Utande will take care of the first team players’ salaries.

In June this year, Bosso players embarked on a strike and refused to train in the build-up to last Sunday’s Chibuku Super Cup clash against Bulawayo City over poor salaries.

The club admitted its struggles and appealed for assistance after failing to raise funds to pay salaries for June.
Highlanders’ treasurer, Donald Ndebele sent out a passionate public appeal to members, fans and sympathisers saying the coronavirus pandemic had affected the club’s revenue streams.
Local football was banned last year following the outbreak of the coronavirus and temporarily resumed this year before being banned again as new coronavirus infections and deaths increased.

Utande Internet Service Providers To Pay Highlanders Players' Salaries

The Bulawayo football giants are set to get a new coach following former player and coach <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/06/28/just-in-madinda-ndlovu-resigns-as-highlanders-coach/">Madinda Ndlovu’s resignation in June </a>and the possible departure of <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/03/breaking-highlanders-f-c-names-madinda-ndlovu-replacement/">Mandla Mpofu who had replaced </a>Madinda. Rumour has been circulating on social media that an English coach from Britain was coming to be the Highlanders Football Club gaffer. A source that spoke to the Chronicle, however, debunked the grapevine and said:
<blockquote>It’s not true that the club will be having someone from Britain and in particular Donaldson Buplin as you guys had insinuated. It’s, in fact, one Pieter de Jongh from Netherlands.</blockquote>

<blockquote>Hendrik Pieter de Jongh (48), started his coaching career in 1990 as a 20-year-old rookie following a career-ending injury. He has also had stints in Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda, Swaziland as well as Caf headquarters.
His first coaching job was with the RKCWaalwijk’s Under 14 side in 1990, staying there up until 1994 when he was now in charge of the team’s 18 -23 year age group. He held many coaching posts in his native country before moving to Moldova to take charge of that country’s Under-21 side between 2012-13. His first dance with African football was in 2014, as head coach of AFC Leopards in Kenya, leading them to the final of the Cecafa Cup in Sudan as well as the Top 8 Cup final in Kenya.
After partying ways with the Kenyan side he came to South Africa to take charge of FC Cape Town albeit for less than a year as he was to be on the road again heading to Rwanda as the Football Federation of Rwanda technical director. As in his previous stint in South Africa, he was in that position for less than a year, leaving in December 2016 to take up a head coach’s job with the Swaziland (Eswatini) national team. Highlanders players continued with their strike yesterday over unpaid salaries by refusing to train for the third day until their grievances are fully addressed.
The players also dismissed the club’s chief executive officer, Nhlanhla Dube’s allegations they were given time off for the rest of the week “so that their muscles recover”. One player who spoke to The Chronicle said:
<blockquote>Like we said, until we are paid what is due to us, we will not attend any training session. The club must find the money and give us because the situation where we stay is now out of hand and we can’t bear it any more. Highlanders Players Continue Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

Peace has been restored Highlanders Foot Club after senior players early this week boycotted training over various grievances.
The Bulawayo giants were forced to train youth teams after the senior players walked out of camp. Highlanders chief executive Nhlanhla Dube said:
<blockquote>Highlanders Football Club wishes to announce that further to the work stoppage by some of our players, leading to them being excused from pre-season camp, the club’s leadership and the affected players have agreed to settle the various outstanding matters in keeping with the club’s laid-down procedures.
The two parties resolved the issue amicably and the players will join pre-season camp this (last) evening to continue with their preparations for the new football season.
Both parties sincerely regret this unfortunate incident that put the image of the club, sponsors, its various stakeholders and partners into disrepute.
We wish to apologise for any and all inconvenience, discomfort and anxiety that may have been caused by this unfortunate incident.

Highlanders  Settle Dispute With Senior Players

Highlanders Football Club has dismissed rumours on social media that the wife of the club’s Technical Manager, Madinda Ndlovu has passed away. The club clarified that it was actually Madinda’s cousin who had lost his wife. In a statement on social media, the club said,

Highlanders Football Club Denies That Madinda Ndlovu's Wife Has Died

Highlanders players refused to train for two days over unpaid winning bonuses for four games against Shabanie Mine, Chicken Inn, Triangle United and Black Rhinos.
Winning bonuses for matches are pegged at $170 per player, meaning each is owed $680. Highlanders needs a total of $12 240 to clear the players’ outstanding winning bonuses. This figure does not include allowances for the technical staff, some of whom are reported to have gone for months without pay. Bosso’s technical team was forced to abandon training at Barbourfields Stadium’s outside grounds yesterday after the players refused to take to the field despite having changed into their training kit.

Roderick Mutuma explained that he left Highlanders for Yadah FC because he was homesick.
Said Mutuma:

I always had to balance work and family commitments and I was sort of unsettled and as a result I could not concentrate much on my play which is the reason why I seemingly failed to assert myself and really rise to expectations. I am very happy I am now living with my family and I can fully concentrate on playing soccer without any mental stress.</blockquote>

Mutuma explains why he left Highlanders for Yadah

Roderick Mutuma has left Highlanders barely 6 months after signing from Dynamos to join Yadah FC.
Sources who spoke to The Chronicle said that Mutuma signed a $4 000 six-month deal with Prophet Walter Magaya, who also promised him a monthly salary of $1 000. The Chronicle could not get hold of Highlanders’ chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube for comment but a member of the the club’s executive who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that Mutuma had asked to be released. Efforts to get confirmation from Yadah FC officials were fruitless as they were said to be attending a church service.

Highlander chief executive Nhlahla Dube had written a letter to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match commissioner Tendai Bwanya complaining over the appointment of referee Norman Matemera to handle their match against Black Rhinos at Morris Depot. Highlanders went on to lose the match 3-0.
Part of the letter reads:
<blockquote>We wish to register an official complaint on the appointment of Mr Matemera as the referee for our match against Rhinos FC at Morris Depot today, 14th of June 2017. Our discomfort with the said match official is that: 
1 – In 2014 he handled our match against Dynamos FC and made controversial decision by adding more than nine minutes of optional time when the board had indicated four minutes.
2 – In 2015, in our match against Dynamos, he made a bad call and denied our club victory.
3 – He is as we are informed a serving-member of ZRP and is thus conflicted when handling a game involving another arm of the national armed forces.
We thus register an official complaint before the match proceeds. We, will, however participate in the match under protest.</blockquote>
Zifa Referees Committee chief Gladmore Muzambi confirmed receipt of the letter.

Highlanders writes letter to PSL complaining over referee who handled Black Rhinos game

The government, through the Sports Ministry has anounced its displeasure at the violence committed by Highlanders’ fans. The governmment also wants the issue of unruly fans to be dealt with as it is spoiling the image of sports.
Sports Minister Makhosini Hlongwane said:
<blockquote>It is important to note that in 2016 Highlanders appeared before the disciplinary committee three times and with just 10 games played into the season they have been summoned to a hearing twice.
It kills the brand of sport. Highlanders are the oldest football club and as Government we are very concerned. They have not taken the issues seriously. The unruly fans need to be rooted out and banned.
The Premier Soccer League should strengthen its disciplinary process. We do not want drunkards in the stadiums and the selling of beer in and around the stadium. Zifa is going to issue a directive on that.
We are very unhappy as Government that Highlanders continue with their violent conduct. I am, however, happy with the commitment from their chairman and their CEO. They have promised to work on the issues raised.</blockquote>

Govt unhappy with violence by Highlanders

Sports Minister Makhosini Hlongwane condemned the violence that has characterised Highlanders matches, of late, causing the abandonment of matches against Dynamos and FC Platinum.
Hlongwane also said that Government will order ZIFA to release a directive banning drunkards in the stadiums and the selling of beer in and around stadiums. Said Hlongwane:

Zifa is going to issue a directive on that. We are very unhappy as Government that Highlanders continue with their violent conduct. Hlongwane had invited Highlanders, the PSL, Zifa and the Sports Commission to a crucial indaba at his offices.

Govt orders ZIFA to ban drunkards & selling of beer at stadiums as measure to stop violence

Highlanders FC have been summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on the 6th of June 2017 for contravening Order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations. This comes after Highlanders fans became violent which led to the abandonment of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between FC Platinum and Bosso played at Mandava Stadium on Sunday 28 May 2017.
PSL went on to urge the Highlanders FC Board of Directors, Executive Committee, leaders of their supporters’ chapters, coaches and players to seriously consider taking corrective measures to eradicate hooliganism in footba

Highlanders to appear before PSL Disciplinary Committee again

Violent scenes rocked the match between FC Platinum and Highlanders as Bosso fans had running battles with the police.
After a goalless first half, Highlanders scored late through Ngulube. The game looked like it was going to end in favour of Bosso but FC Platinum were awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time which Petros Mhari sent Ariel Sibanda the wrong way. Highlanders fans threw in missiles causing another abandonment of the match. Below are the results of all the matches played today:

Highlanders fans cause another match to be abandoned

In a statement released on their Facebook account, the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee announced that it has reserved the judgement in the matter involving Highlanders following a hearing that took place yesterday (Tuesday 23 May) at the Premier Soccer League offices.
Highlanders were being charged for breaching order 31.1.13 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Rules and Regulations which states that it is an act of misconduct on the part of the Club if its supporters misbehave in any manner whatsoever, inside or outside a ground before, during or after a match, no matter on which ground the match is played. The PSL said that the judgement will be released to the relevant parties in due course.

PSL reserves judgement in Highlanders disciplinary case

Highlanders Football Club has appointed Nhlanhla Dube as the club’s substantive chief executive officer. Dube takes over from Ndumiso Gumede, and signed a two-year renewable contract. Gumede was initially suspended from all football activities by Zifa in November 2016. However, the sanction was lifted later and Gumede subsequently retired. Secretary-general Emmett Ndlovu has been acting as the CEO since Gumede’s banishment.
Said Dube after his appointment:
<blockquote>I’m very humbled to be appointed CEO of such a big club and I am aware of the task ahead of me. I will do my level best to live up to what I have been appointed to do and ensure that Highlanders as a club is a force to reckon with. Remember that my position as CEO has football content in it. I understand what we want to achieve and that’s creating an academy, making sure that our facilities are user friendly and that we have adequate playing staff.</blockquote>
