The City of Harare has refuted claims of a recent increase in criminal activities, including murders and robberies, in Harare Gardens.
In a public notice issued by Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango on Friday, April 12, the local authority said that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that there is no recent murder case reported in Harare Gardens. Reads the notice:

SECURITY SITUATION IN HARARE GARDENS
We take note of a statement circulating on social media about an upsurge in criminal activities in Harare Gardens including allegations of murder and robbery cases.
Some of the information in the statement is inaccurate. We have checked with the police and they have confirmed that there is no recent murder case reported in Harare Gardens.
The only murder case in Harare Gardens was confirmed months ago and both the ZRP and municipal police have since heightened security.
Our municipal police and the ZRP continue to make regular patrols and these will be increased to protect residents from criminals.
Gangs of street kids and vagrants continue to be taken out of Harare Gardens and the operation will be heightened.
Residents are urged to contact the City Safety Manager, Mr Moyo in case of any suspicious activity not only in Harare Gardens but in the whole City and surrounding areas. Mr Moyo can be contacted on 0777421985.

On 08 February this year, a woman was stabbed to death by a thief who had allegedly tried to snatch a cellphone from her in Harare Gardens.
The victim, Norest Chimusoro died after being stabbed indiscriminately with an unknown object by the assailant who left her bleeding to her death.

Harare City Council Responds To Reports Of Murders Occurring In Harare Gardens

Zimbabweans are worried about a recent incident that took place in Harare Gardens on February 8, 2024. A man named Norest Chimusoro was robbed and killed, causing concern among the public. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), an unidentified man tried to snatch Chimusoro’s cell phone and ended up stabbing him with an unknown object. The police are investigating the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Read a police report seen by Pindula News:

The incident has sparked a wider conversation about safety and the need for effective measures to prevent crime in public spaces. Zimbabweans are demanding justice for the victims and calling for increased security measures to protect citizens.
In response to this tragic incident, some people expressed sadness and nostalgia for a time when they could freely walk through Harare Gardens without fear. King Jay, a Zimbabwean based in the United Kingdom said:

Sad! I am old enough to remember staggering out of the Monomatapa Hotel’s, Wine Barrel Bar at midnight and walk through the beautiful Harare Gardens to my flat in Josiah Chinamano Avenue, then Montague Avenue without fear!

Others suggested that installing security cameras could help prevent such crimes. There were also concerns raised about street children in the area possibly being responsible for the crime. Some suggested interrogating the street children in the area, believing they might have information about the perpetrator. They said the kids who stay behind Queen Elizabeth, in the corridor at FCM Motors and where Chinhoyi Street starts may be responsible or know who the culprit is.

Worries And Demands For Justice As Man Is Killed In Harare Gardens

Gospel musician Mathias Mhere defied the odds by drawing a large crowd at his live DVD recording held at the Harare Gardens on Saturday.
The venue has not been as popular in recent years but fans thronged the venue despite the unusually chilly weather in the middle of the Spring season
Mhere revealed that he was worried that the show would flop on account of the foul weather. He said:
<blockquote>We are grateful to God and our fans for this success this milestone live recording is an opportunity not only to celebrate achievements, but to reach for new heights.
People have ignored the cold weather and sacrificed their time to make this day a success.
When the weather changed on yesterday (Friday) I was afraid it was going to flop but it is God from day one.
I want to thank everyone who has made the day successful and will continue to deliver songs which uplift hearts of believers in these trying times.</blockquote>
Kuda Mutsvene, Olinda Marowa and Vabati VaJehovah were some of the gospel singers who performed at the show, as well as comedian, Mai Titi.

Mhere Draws Huge Crowd For Live DVD Recording

<blockquote>Following the unfortunate events that unfolded at the Judgement Yard 4th anniversary show at the Harare Gardens early this morning, we seek to give our side of the story through this statement as we have already noted that some elements are blaming us for inciting violence at the show.
On the contrary, we were victims of planned, organised and targeted violence not that we were pepetrators of it. As we issue this statement, we have members of our team who were badly injured by bottles thrown at us by these hooligans, including Seh Calaz himself. Bottles were thrown at us before we went on stage and worsened when we got on stage. We have noted with concern the lie that bottles were thrown at us in protest for bringing clowns (zvigure) on stage.
The clowns were just a prop for our planned act of the night as a way to differentiate our stage act. The bottles were thrown with the aim to harm and injure us. When we decided to leave the venue, true dancehall fans came and blocked our cars from leaving and asking us to come back and perform. We listened to the fans and came back and the violent throwing of bottles continued and we left. If we were the ones who incited violence, why would the fans ask us to come back and perform? It is not the first time for cans and objects to be thrown at Seh Calaz but he usually ignores and performs but yesterday our team members were injured and was not worth it to carry on.
Why would we incite violence during our own perfomance? Our own fans allowed other artists to sing without any disturbance. We must also point out that Maggie who himself had bottles and can thrown at him, came to our convoy with his team as we were leaving and shouted obscenities and threatened violence against us, bragging that the violence was good. They were in a silver Mercedes Benz, Reg Number AEB 4334.One of our cars as can be seen in the images was damaged by these thugs.
We have since made a police report at Harare Central. You can also see pictures of injuries sustained by our MC, Lenny Matterhon as a result of the bottles aimed at us. It is true that Seh Calaz called for the event to end because it was no longer a music show but a war zone where some hired mercenaries wanted to cause harm and his words were aimed at those hooligans and he will not be taking back those words or apologize for them or apologize for ending the show. Just a quick look on some social media platforms you can see some of the hooligans bragging about throwing the bottles and cans that caused the violence. Need we say more that this was planned?</blockquote>
