Glenview North Member of Parliament Happymore Chidziva was arrested on Tuesday and charged with rape, <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/ccc-mp-happymore-chidziva-arrested-due-in-court-on-rape-charges/">reported ZimLive</a>.
Chidziva, who is married to the aunt of the alleged victim, is accused of showering the 16-year-old with gifts before engaging in sexual intercourse with her on multiple occasions.
His arrest followed a request from lawyer Webster Jiti, who represents the teen’s family. Jiti wrote to the police on September 20 seeking an update on the case, which had been initiated earlier in the month.
In a letter addressed to the Police Victim Friendly Unit at Harare Central, Jiti wrote:

Our client is concerned with the delays in the apprehension of the accused person in this matter. Accordingly, we have been instructed to kindly request your good office to apprehend the accused person pending the completion of investigations, as we do hereby.
</blockquote>
On Tuesday, Jiti said police had confirmed Chidziva’s arrest. He said:

The ZRP has advised me that they have managed to apprehend Chidziva. The matter will go to court on Wednesday for initial remand.
</blockquote>
The Criminal Laws Amendment (Protection of Children and Young Persons) Act, 2024, recenty enacted raised the age of sexual consent from 16 to 18.
For context, the age of consent is defined as the minimum age at which an individual is considered legally capable of agreeing to sexual activity.

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament Happymore “Bvondo” Chidziva is facing allegations of concealing the whereabouts of a 16-year-old girl, Trish Dewa-Moyo, who is related to his wife.
The girl’s family has filed a missing person’s report at the Budiriro 2 Police Station, saying Trish was last seen with the Glenview North MP, who had allegedly promised to find her a job.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/ccc-mp-happymore-chidziva-sucked-into-missing-teen-investigation/">ZimLive</a>, Trish’s aunt, Stabile Dewa, claimed that the family has evidence suggesting Chidziva, who is married to Trish’s cousin, is engaged in an inappropriate relationship with the underage teen.
If the allegations are proven true, Chidziva’s actions could be considered a criminal offence under Zimbabwean law, which sets the age of consent for sexual relations at 18 years. Said Dewa:

Chidziva should release the girl and let the law take its course. I just want justice for my brother’s daughter. He cannot just come and ruin my family.
</blockquote>
According to the family, when the police attempted to contact Trish on her phone, she refused to disclose her location.
The report further states that Chidziva had initially agreed to speak to a ZimLive reporter, but later changed his mind.
However, ZimLive has obtained a voice note sent by Chidziva to Trish’s aunt, in which the MP admitted that he was the one who picked up the 16-year-old girl when she left her home.
However, Chidziva denies any romantic involvement, claiming that Trish wanted to go to a friend’s house who could assist her in finding employment.
Chidziva said he picked up Trish around 8 PM and dropped her off in Harare’s central business district.
The MP also acknowledged that he has been providing financial assistance to Trish for several years, without the knowledge of his wife.
Furthermore, Chidziva said he has been making efforts to have Trish return home, “because right now the impression is that she left on my account.”

CCC MP Happymore Chidziva Accused Of "Hiding" 16-Year-Old Girl

The MDC Alliance has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of abetting a “new colonialism” by Chinese miners who are reportedly evicting entire villages in Mutoko and Uzumba in search of black granite.
Chinese companies Heijin Mining and Shanghai Haoying are accused of displacing hundreds of people from their ancestral lands after obtaining special mining grants from the government.
Addressing a press conference in Harare on Thursday, MDC Alliance secretary for rural mobilisation Happymore Chidziva, said:
<blockquote>
This new colonialism offends what our liberators fought for during the liberation struggle. One of the key fights was entitlement to land.
Land is at the core of people’s dignity and their rights must be respected. The message from the communities is that Mnangagwa and the local ZANU PF leadership have sold out our land and country to the Chinese.
</blockquote>
The MDC Alliance recently sent a delegation to the two districts in Mashonaland East province to assess the situation on the ground. Said Chidziva:

The delegation made the following findings in Uzumba: the Chinese company Heijin Mining started exploration in 2020 and pegged areas that cover a total of 300 hectares of communal lands and could possibly displace nearly 12 000 people.
Affected villagers were informed of these developments a year after the arrival of the Chinese company.
They were also informed that the majority of them would be displaced and should seek alternative settlement from their traditional leaders.
In Mutoko, the Chinese company started exploration in 2020 and pegged areas to be mined which covers 170 hectares of communal lands.
The affected community had not been formally informed of these developments in total disregard of the communities, their right to information, right to dignity and right to be heard.

Chidziva said “colonial legislation” like the Mines and Minerals Act and the Communal Lands Act partly enabled the displacement of the villagers.
Mutoko and Uzumba are traditional ZANU PF strongholds during elections and the MDC Alliance could sense an opportunity to gain mileage at the ruling party’s expense.

Happymore “Bvondo” Chidziva, who was among nine MDC Alliance legislators removed from Parliament by the Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T on Tuesday, said they are now unshackled take the struggle to the streets from the “comfort” of Parliament.
The MDC Alliance legislators were expelled from Parliament after MDC-T acting secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora wrote to National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda advising him that they had ceased to be members of the party.
Chidziva told the Daily News that the “real struggle” against the ruling ZANU PF party had just commenced. He said:
<blockquote>What this means is that the real people’s struggle has started. We are going to be on the streets fighting. That is our new Parliament.
We are never effective when we are in the comfort zone. So, Zanu PF has every reason to worry now that we are out of Parliament.</blockquote>
Among those expelled were some key allies of MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa such as Amos Chibaya (Mkoba), Murisi Zwizwai (Harare Central), and Happymore Chidziva (Highfield West).
The others were proportional representatives Bacilia Majaya, Macharairwa Mugidho, Virginia Muradzikwa, Annah Myambo, Francisca Ncube and Nomathemba Ndlovu.
In line with her vindictive agenda against Chamisa, Khupe, armed with a controversial Supreme Court ruling, has now expelled a total of 13 MDC Alliance legislators from Parliament.
Last month, Khupe used the same Supreme Court ruling to remove Chalton Hwende (Kuwadzana East), Prosper Mutseyami (Chikanga Dangamvura), Tabitha Khumalo (proportional) and Senator Lilian Timveos (Midlands) from Parliament.

'Bvondo' Unfazed By Parliament Recall: 'Streets Are The New Parliament'

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nelson Chamisa</a> has warned President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> against pushing the party and Zimbabweans into a corner.
Speaking to the Daily News on Monday, the party’s deputy organising secretary Happymore Chidziva declared that when people are cornered, they will respond accordingly. He said:
<blockquote>ED (Mnangagwa) thinks that we fear guns. He is pushing us to the corner and Zimbabweans will respond accordingly as cornered people always do.
We are not going to be stopped by anyone, and so we will continue with our programmes. There is nothing that is going to stop us from mobilising the people to fight this evil regime.</blockquote>
Chidziva’s remarks come after police banned Chamisa from planting trees at a school in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marondera" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Marondera</a> on Sunday, as has become the “norm”, with countless MDC events banned on spurious grounds.
The party claims that police fired live ammunition at the MDC officials in an attempt to stop the tree-planting event.

'Don't Push Us Into A Corner', MDC Warns ED

Opposition MDC led by advocate Nelson Chamisa has dispatched its deputy organising secretary, Happymore Chidziva, to New York to organise protests ahead of the United Nations General Assembly.
Protests which are said to be over the deteriorating democratic space and bad governance in the country are meant to humiliate President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is also attending the meeting.
Speaking to the Daily News earlier this year, Chidziva said:
<blockquote>We are here (in New York) for the mass actions.
We will not rest till the people of Zimbabwe get the freedom they deserve…</blockquote>
The protests come after a spree of alleged abductions of government critics, human rights defenders and members of the opposition MDC.
Observers say that the government was behind the alleged abductions.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa together with fellow SADC presidents is expected to call for the removal of sanctions at the same event.

MDC Alliance deputy organising secretary, Happymore Chidziva said that the party has deployed “peace ambassadors” in Lupane East ahead of a by-election set for next month.
Chidziva told the Daily News that the move was meant to prevent ZANU PF from engaging in vote-buying by using food relief as a political weapon. He said:
<blockquote>We have deployed our peace ambassadors who will make sure that this nonsense of Zanu PF taking over the distribution of State resources and give to its supporters only comes to an end by making sure that they use all means necessary to have all State aid accessed by all regardless of political affiliation.
We are teaching our people there that they have the right to food aid from the government so they are going to be in all areas where such practice is rampant and they will use whatever means they can to access their share.</blockquote>

MDC A youth assembly chairman Happymore Chidziva on Tuesday blamed Government for the low pass rate in the ZIMSEC ordinary and advanced level results in Matabeleland province.

MDC Blames Govt For Low Pass Rates In Matabeleland

MDC youth assembly chairperson Happymore Chidziva says the party organ will not block anyone from contesting party president Nelson Chamisa for the top post but was firmly behind his leadership.
In an interview with NewZimbawe.com, Chidziva said:
<blockquote>As the youth assembly, we are 100 per cent behind the candidature of president Nelson Chamisa and no one will be barred from contesting.
It’s not like we are barring anyone from contesting President Chamisa. We are strategically deploying him to be the leader of the movement.</blockquote>
MDC will hold an elective Congress on 24-26 May this year.
Secretary general Douglas Mwonzora is thought to be seriously considering challenging Chamisa for the presidency.

In an interview with 263Chat soon after their press briefing at the party headquarters today, MDC National Youth Assembly chairperson, Happymore Chidziva said they had settled to support Nelson Chamisa to continue his reign.
Said Chidziva:

Youth Assembly Endorse Chamisa Ahead Of MDC Congress

MDC Youth League leader Happymore “Bvondo” Chidziva was on Tuesday acquitted by Gweru provincial magistrate Charity Maphosa on charges of inciting violence in the run-up to the July 2018 polls.
Maphosa ruled that the State had failed to provide enough evidence to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Chidziva was represented by Jeremiah Bhamu and Brian Dube.
Chidziva’s lawyers argued that they were making an application for discharge because the State had failed to prove a prima facie case against their client.

<div>Before the death of our founding President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, the MDC-T party called for a national council that was to decide who shall be the acting President as our dear President was seriously ill.</div>

In that meeting Advocate, Nelson Chamisa was unanimously elected acting President. The council was called and President Advocate Nelson Chamisa was elected as the President of the party that’s why He is not acting President but The actual President of the MDC. After the elections, we then fulfilled the dream of Baba Morgan Tsvangirai of forming one formidable force to fight the ZANU PF regime and we are MDC as led by advocate Nelson Chamisa. Which will then renew reorganise and modernise the party as per Constitution and in line with the direction of the party organs at the end of the 4th Congress term.

MDC youth assembly chairperson Happymore Chidziva said he will not seek reelection at the opposition party’s congress next year.
He said this during his 38th birthday celebrations. He said he will continue under whichever post he will be allocated. Chidziva said he wants to pass the baton to the next generation. Said Chidziva:
<blockquote>This is my last term as the commander of this movement’s youth assembly, next year at congress I am passing the baton to a new generation. Chidziva Won't Seek Reelection As MDC Youth Leader

Senior party officials from the MDC Alliance have gone into hiding saying they are in fear for their lives after alleged State security agents raided some of their homes at night. Some of the leaders who have gone into hiding are MDC Alliance co-principal Tendai Biti, party chairperson Morgen Komichi and youth leader Happymore Chidziva. Speaking to NewsDay over the telephone, Chidziva said,
<blockquote>It’s not the police who are looking for me, how do police raid my house in masks, abduct my family and beat them up? It is clear that the police are being used to bring sanity on a crackdown of the MDC Alliance. Handing myself over is like committing suicide. I am not going to do that.</blockquote>
Speaking at a press conference Nelson Chamisa’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda said,
<blockquote>There is a dangerous precedence in the country to block the people from protesting. They cold murdered Zimbabweans last week. A lot of MDC Alliance top officials have gone into hiding and I cannot disclose their names for security reasons, but I can tell you they are many…The victimisation of Zimbabweans is getting to the levels of impunity. There have been some overnight raids on party officials.</blockquote>
The officials are said to be wanted by the police in connection with the protests by opposition supporters last week which turned violent and resulted in the deaths of 6 people after soldiers used live bullets on protesters.

Chidziva said Khupe’s 7 day ultimatum had expired and urged the party to implement the MDC-T national council’s resolution to expel the vice president. Said Chidziva:
<blockquote>In the spirit of safeguarding the MDC-T party, I demand (both in my personal and representative capacity as the chairman of the youth assembly) the immediate implementation of the national council resolution to expel Thokozani Khupe from the party. 
Her seven-day ultimatum to attend party activities, which she has been absenting herself from for close to eight months, has expired. The further three-day extension to this ultimatum which was given by the president has also since expired.
Khupe’s continued stay in our movement will cause more harm than good and it’s time we get rid of her. In our clarity and honesty, we state here categorically that we do not have space for rebellious malcontents who are bent on destroying the party.
To the party president, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, I, as the leader of the youth assembly plead with you to take drastic and necessary action against this continued rebellion and provocations or else we will forever be doomed.</blockquote>

MDC-T Youths Urge Chamisa To Fire Khupe

Happymore Chidziva the MDC-T youths chairperson urged party members to fight back if they are attacked by Zanu-PF members. Addressing supporters in Bulawayo on Sunday Chidziva said:
<blockquote>An injury to one is an injury to all. If one of you is attacked, please make sure you retaliate. I am not promoting violence but all I am saying is that we should promote the culture of solidarity among ourselves.</blockquote>
Elections in Zimbabwe usually result in political violence, with supporters of opposition parties often targeted.  He also urged the youth to vote in order to change the economy and their own fortunes. Said Chidziva:
<blockquote>If you do not want to register and vote, I tell you some of you will never be married because of the hardships which most young men are encountering. Young men as well if they do not vote next year, they will never work in their entire lives. So you can see there are a lot of things at stake for the young people</blockquote>
