Nineteen (19) Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) students were reportedly involved in an accident while on their way from Masvingo where they had gone to register to vote on Thursday.
Eight of the students were critically injured and are receiving medical attention, according to Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere. She said:

ALERT: We have received a report that 20 students from Great Zimbabwe University were involved in an accident on their way from Masvingo after getting registered to vote. 8 are in a critical condition. We wish them a speedy recovery. 
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe is preparing for the 2023 elections and a huge number of the citizenry is not yet registered.
Elections stakeholders, including the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and political parties, have been mobilising members of the public to register to vote.

Great Zimbabwe University Students In An Accident On Way From Registering To Vote 

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Great_Zimbabwe_University">Great Zimbabwe University (GZU)</a> has lost 50 members of staff through a brain drain since January this year.
GZU vice-chancellor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Rungano_Zvobgo">Rungano Zvobgo</a> said the mass staff exodus was affecting the successful implementation of the Education 5.0 policy, NewsDay reported. Zvobgo said at the institution’s graduation ceremony recently:

This year alone, we lost 50 members of staff through resignations, five of them were PhD holders. This has negatively impacted our critical mass of specialised human resources.
</blockquote>
The trend is said to be common amongst state institutions as educators, and non-academic staff, are leaving the country in search of greener pastures.
The president of the Association of University Teachers of UZ, Zvakanyorwa Wilbert Sadomba and secretary-general Rekopantswe Mate wrote to UZ vice-chancellor Paul Mapfumo in July complaining over poor salaries and working conditions. The union leaders said in a memo:

Your non-consultative and non-participatory approach to administration has caused an unprecedented decline in morale leading to an exodus of experts in vital fields such as medicine.
</blockquote>
College Lecturers Association of Zimbabwe president David Dzatsunga said lecturers at State institutions have turned destitute. Dzatsunga said:

Quite a number of lecturers are leaving for the diaspora especially because of the low salaries and poor conditions of service incomparable with counterparts in the region and internationally.
</blockquote>
Workers in state-owned higher learning institutions are among several groups of workers who have periodically embarked on industrial action in recent years.

Great Zimbabwe University Lecturers Resign En Masse

The Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) has hired a South African professor to be the institution’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the expense of its acting PVC Professor Munyaradzi Manyanga who is being investigated for stealing chickens, NewZimbabwe.com reported.
Citing sources at GZU, the publication said Manyanga controversially landed the acting PVC’s job only for the institution to revoked its decision after investigations into his behaviour were instituted.

He is accused of stealing 150 chickens from his subordinate Fortune Nguvo, a janitor who runs a poultry project at the GZU Mashava campus.
Nguvo and her family were away attending a funeral when Manyanga reportedly broke into her residence before stealing the chickens.

Manyanga’s demotion was also done after the institution noted that the university boss does now have requisite qualifications for the post, the sources further alleged.
