ZIFA presidential hopeful Gift Banda appeared at the Western Commonage Court in Bulawayo this Saturday, facing allegations of forging an Ordinary Level certificate.
The 54-year-old, a former Bulawayo deputy mayor and ex-Njube Lobengula MP, was arrested and detained overnight at Western Commonage Police Station before being brought to court.
Banda’s lawyers argued that the charges were unfounded, claiming there was no evidence directly linking their client to the alleged forgery.
The state did not oppose bail, and Magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze granted Banda bail set at US$500. He was also ordered to reside at his given address until the case is resolved and instructed not to interfere with any witnesses.
The case was remanded to 27 December 2024.

Gift Banda is a man who wants to be in charge of football in Zimbabwe. He went to court for allegedly faking a school certificate. His lawyers say there is no proof he did it. The judge let him go on bail for $500. He has to stay at home until the case finishes and not talk to any witnesses. The next court date is in December 2024.

Banda Granted US$500 Bail

Aspiring Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president, Gift Banda (54), was arrested on Thursday on charges of forging an Ordinary Level certificate.
As reported by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/gift-banda-arrested-over-fake-o-level-certificate/">Chronicle</a>, Banda, a former ZIFA vice-president and interim president, was taken into custody and spent the night at Western Commonage Police Station, where he assisted with investigations.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Banda, also a former Bulawayo councillor and deputy mayor, is facing allegations of forgery.
The forged document claims that Banda passed the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) tests in 1986 at Mpopoma High School in Bulawayo.
However, at that time, the school, like many others across the country, only offered Cambridge examinations, as ZIMSEC was not established until 1996.
Banda is among several high-profile individuals who have expressed interest in running for the ZIFA presidency in elections set for early next year.
One of the requirements for candidates is to demonstrate possession of five Ordinary Level passes, and it is believed that Banda does not meet this criterion.
In connection with the case, another individual, Anele Zikhali from Bulawayo, was also arrested on Thursday for allegedly producing the fake certificate.

Gift Banda, who wants to be ZIFA president, got arrested. He is accused of making a fake certificate saying he passed his exams in 1986. But back then, the school only did Cambridge exams, not ZIMSEC. Banda and another person got in trouble for this. To run for president, you need five O-Level passes, which Banda might not have. He is not the only one running, but he might not be able to now because of the fake certificate issue.

Aspiring ZIFA President Gift Banda Arrested For Allegedly Forging O-Level Certificate

Walter Magaya, a presidential aspirant for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), along with Gift Banda, a former ZIFA vice president, are accused of attempting to manipulate their way into top positions within the organisation.
According to a report by <a href="https://nehandaradio.com/2024/10/16/prophet-magaya-accused-of-bribery-to-bypass-zifa-o-level-requirement/">Nehanda Radio</a>, the pair allegedly organised a secret meeting on October 10, 2024, at Number 10 Park Road in Suburbs, Bulawayo, with ZIFA councillors from the Southern Region.
During this meeting, they purportedly campaigned for the councillors to amend the constitution to eliminate the requirement of five O-levels, a qualification that Magaya reportedly does not possess.
A source close to the development told Nehanda Radio that Magaya and Banda, “asked the councillors to amend the constitution on Friday and refuse the Clause which demands 5 O levels and other clauses which can be detrimental in the quest to land the highest positions in ZIFA elections scheduled for next year January. Magaya wants to be President and Gift Banda wants the position of Vice President.”
The meeting was allegedly attended by Magaya (aspiring ZIFA president), his Manager Wellington Mpandare, Gift Banda (aspiring ZIFA vice president), Eddi Ndodana Masuku (Chairman Area Zone South Region) and Francis Ntutha (Bulawayo Provincial Chairman).
Clevios Ncube (Matabeleland North Provincial Chairman), Nkosilathi Ncube (Matabeleland South Provincial Chairman), Pervious Mathe Midlands Provincial Chairman from Gweru also attended the meeting.
Others are Loyd Munhanga (Southern Region Chairman), Tafadzwa Mutowa (Board Member Southern Region), Blessed Mbwanda (Board Member Southern Region), Tizirayi Luphahla (Board Member Finance Southern Region), Kenneth Mhlophe Highlanders Chairman (aspiring PSL Chairman), Morgen Gazza Dube Highlanders Secretary (aspiring ZIFA Board Member) and Tavengwa Hara Chicken Inn Secretary General (aspiring ZIFA Board Member).
Bulawayo Chiefs and Arenel Movers FC were also represented. Eddie Chivero Chegutu Pirates Chairman (aspiring ZIFA Board Member)
Beach Soccer Zimbabwe Chairman Mike Mandaza was present. Sibekiwe Ndlovu represented women’s football.
Magaya claims to be a prophet and is the founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, a church with significant membership in Harare.
He has faced previous allegations of rape and fraud, while Banda has faced allegations in the past involving match-fixing and has been sacked from ZIFA twice before.
The proposed amendment to the ZIFA Statutes requires the association’s president and two vice presidents to have at least five O-levels.
Critics aligned with Magaya and Banda argue this amendment may violate Article 4 of the ZIFA Statutes, which addresses non-discrimination and equality.
A meeting is scheduled for October 18 in Harare, where ZIFA Councillors will discuss the proposed amendments and establish statutes for the ZIFA executive committee elections.
The draft ZIFA Statutes highlight the importance of integrity checks and educational qualifications for executive committee members. Part of the draft ZIFA Statutes reads:

The president, the vice-president and the other members of the executive committee shall be elected by the Congress in accordance with Art. 31 of these Statutes.
They shall undergo an integrity check, to be conducted by the Ethics Committee, prior to their election or re-election
The president and the two vice presidents of the executive committee shall have passed a minimum of five O-Levels subjects or any equivalent educational level.

Walter Magaya's ZIFA Aspirations Threatened By O-Level Requirement

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) says it will go ahead with the launch of the National League this year despite opposition from some domestic football stakeholders.
ZIFA last month advised the four regions that it had resolved to embark on the National League in line with section 10 of the ZIFA Constitution.
However, the ZIFA’s four regions, namely Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern, last month wrote to ZIFA raising several concerns and asked for the National League’s kick-off to be deferred to 2024.
Speaking after the association’s Executive Committee on Friday, Acting ZIFA president Gift Banda, said:
<blockquote>
This is an ongoing exercise. We are engaging almost everyone and we are not leaving anyone behind solely because the National Division One League is a constitutional issue that we haven’t adhered to for the past 10 years.
We can’t wait any longer because it’s affecting the quality of our football. So we are engaging everyone so that we see things with the same eye and sing from the same hymn book as we move forward.
This National Division One is also one of the recommendations that are coming from the Restructuring Committee and also a recommendation that we as ZIFA members made 10 years ago.
When this was done, it was done with the mind of making our football bigger and better.

ZIFA has invited four clubs from each region to join the inaugural National League.
The bottom four clubs that were relegated from the Premiership are also expected to join the new league.
Banda said an interim executive committee will be set up with members to be seconded from the regions that currently make the country’s four division one leagues.
He said issues of sponsorship and fixtures were still being worked out.

National League Will Make Our Football Bigger And Better - Acting ZIFA President

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has reiterated that unqualified coaches will no longer be allowed in the technical team areas during matches.
ZIFA’s acting president Gift Banda said that the requirement for all Premier Soccer League matches to possess a CAF A Licence will be fully enforced this year.
In the past, ZIFA has exempted coaches who previously won the league championship who included Chicken Inn’s Joey Antipas and Moses Chunga among others, from the requirement.
Banda said no waivers will be made this year, meaning that Premiership coaches and their assistants should be in possession of a CAF A badge.
Division One coaches should have a minimum of CAF B while assistant coaches are required to be holders of a CAF C or ZIFA Level Four Licence. Said Banda:

We come a long way in football administration. First, there’s an important reform we are trying to undertake that if we achieve it, we will find ourselves in a better state as a footballing nation that competes with our erstwhile colleagues on the continent and globally, that is club licensing.
Club licensing has been with us for a long time but there has been a lack of seriousness on the part of ZIFA management and PSL in implementing it.
You realise that across the border in Botswana where they ended up implementing club licensing they had to be tough, some teams in the Premiership were even barred because of not conforming to club licensing tenets.
It takes a lot of goodwill in order to come up and adhere to club licensing. In most cases, you find out that it’s a lack of will on the part of ZIFA and PSL because we keep on changing goalposts. 
We’ve agreed as a board that there won’t be any sacred cows in terms of adherence to club licensing this time around.
We’re there to implement it because we’re not looking beyond the mandate that we were given by the ZIFA councillors who gave us this tough task to steady the ship until the next election.
So, without fear or favour we are implementing standardisation of coaches. 
In the past, there were waivers given, and that disturbed the full implementation of the process.
Someone has to correct the wrongs that have been happening and that someone is us who were given the mandate by the ZIFA members.

Despite the fact that ZIFA is not holding CAF courses, Banda insisted that there won’t be any going back on fully implementing standardisation of coaches. He said:

The last time the country had CAF courses was in 2017. The continental body then suspended programmes as they improved the syllabus and we also had COVID-19 before the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) did what they did and FIFA banned us.
But it will be a travesty of justice to use all these excuses to stall the implementation of club licensing. As ZIFA, we do take part of the blame though.

No More Exemptions For Unqualified Coaches - ZIFA

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)</a> interim executive committee has distributed equipment that was supplied by FIFA despite being ordered not to do so by the world governing body.
Earlier this year, FIFA warned ZIFA against utilising their funds and resources on the grounds that the interim team led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Banda">Gift Banda</a> was not legitimate.
FIFA wrote to ZIFA in July this year after they gathered that the board had used US$108 000 that came from the global body under the administration led by Felton Kamambo, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200005621/zifa-risks-fifas-wrath">NewsDay</a> reported.
Read part of the FIFA letter which was written by CAF general secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba:

Please note that a breach of this directive will be regarded as a violation of the Fifa Council decision dated February 24, 2022, as ratified by the Fifa congress on March 31, 2022, and may subject Zifa or the officials involved to disciplinary sanctions. 
A suspended member association may not exercise any of its membership rights.
Such rights being defined in Article 13 of the Fifa statutes. Consequently, Caf hereby directs Zifa to immediately cease using and accessing any funds deposited by Fifa or Caf in the Zifa accounts.

The Kamambo-led board was dissolved by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) last year over various charges, which include misappropriation of funds as well as failure to deal with reports of sexual exploitation of female referees.
The dissolution of the board prompted <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zifa-suspension-football-stakeholders-speak-as-zimbabwe-faces-fifa-ban/">FIFA to suspend Zimbabwe from international football citing government interference.</a>
Meanwhile, ZIFA has reportedly started distributing football equipment that was purchased using FIFA funds for FIFA-sanctioned programmes.
The football equipment is reportedly not benefiting the originally targeted recipients, with allegations that the executive committee members are converting some of it to personal use.
Banda, the Njube-Lobengula legislator, earlier this month held an eight-team Under-17 tournament in his constituency, where participating teams received football equipment.
Kamambo has warned Banda against distributing the football equipment, saying doing so would strain future relations between ZIFA and FIFA.

ZIFA Distributes FIFA Equipment Despite FIFA Ordering It Not To

The ZIFA leadership, which is not recognised by FIFA, has commended the government for availing over ZWL$1 billion for the renovation of sporting facilities including the National Sports Stadium (NSS).
The Government has set aside ZWL$1.2 billion in the 2023 National Budget for upgrading sporting facilities across the country.
The National Sports Stadium is the main venue for hosting international matches but was banned by CAF as it does not meet the required standards.
Acting ZIFA president Gift Banda said the renovation of NSS should be expedited so that it meets international standards when ZIFA’s suspension by FIFA is lifted. Banda said:

The emphasis on Zimbabwe’s return to international football has been that when we do so we go back having sorted our issues, having structures and infrastructure in place.
We’ve also been working on mending relations with key stakeholders and Government is one such key stakeholder.
It is good to note that the Government is serious about getting the National Sports Stadium to the required standards.
This means when our suspension is lifted we’ll defend our pride right within our borders.
Hopefully when we return to international football the National Sports Stadium will be ready for us to play international football competitively.

ZIFA Wants National Sports Stadium Rehabilitation Expedited

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)</a> have indicated that they are in no hurry to get the country’s FIFA suspension lifted. 
Gerald Mlotshwa, who was presenting ZIFA’s forensic audit, Thursday, said the lifting of the suspension was not their priority, adding that they were prepared to face off with FIFA even if it meant extending the fight beyond a lifetime.
Zimbabwe was suspended in February after the Mlotshwa-led SRC sacked the then ZIFA president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> alongside his board members that include Philemon Machana and Joseph Mamutse. Said Mlotshwa:
<blockquote>
The lifting of the suspension is not a priority, let us get that out of our heads, our priority is the process to clean up our football,” 
We are not in a rush at this point in time to go to FIFA and say lift the suspension. They will ask us whether we have cured all the things we gave as reasons when we suspended the ZIFA board, we are not there yet.
When you restructure or implement reforms, that is not an overnight process, that process has already started and it started when we suspended the executive committee and it is an ongoing one with certain milestones.
I will tell you that the reform process does not stop, you are continuously developing yourself, FIFA itself has already said we are underwriting this. DO not misunderstand this however as an indication that FIFA will then automatically lift the suspension.
ZIFA will approach FIFA and formally ask for lifting of that suspension when we feel that we are ready to do so. This will be an ongoing process and might even outlive you.

Zimbabwe has, since the suspension, missed out on the COSAFA Cup finals, AFCON and World Cup qualifiers while clubs were not included in the 2022 and next year’s African Safaris.
Kenya, which was suspended at around the same time as Zimbabwe has been re-admitted by FIFA after its government withdrew its decision to suspend football federation officials in hopes of ‘cleaning the football mess there.’ 
Mlotshwa’s sentiments, supported by ZIFA president Gift Banda, come at a time calls for Zimbabwe to be re-admitted into the football mother body’s fold have grown.
Players and administrators have joined in the push for re-admission which, according to FIFA, can only be done when the Kamambo-led ZIFA executive committee has been reappointed.
Banda said they were in agreement with the SRC that the football in Zimbabwe has to be cleaned.

"ZIFA Will Approach FIFA When We Feel Ready To Do So, The Process Might Outlive You"

Former ZIFA president Felton Kamambo and other suspended executive members have advised interim ZIFA president, Gift Banda, against distributing football equipment purchased using FIFA funds.
Kamambo and fellow board members Philemon Machana and Bryton Malandule recently wrote a letter to Banda warning him that distributing the equipment will strain future relations between ZIFA and FIFA.
The letter, which was written by the lawyers representing the suspended board members, Rubaya and Chatambudza, reads:

It has come to our clients’ attention that at a meeting dubbed “The ZIFA EGM” you arranged and attended together with your colleagues and subsequently resolved to distribute football equipment purchased using FIFA funds strictly for FIFA-sanctioned programs despite previous communications from FIFA and CAF that you are to desist from utilising their financial resources.
Having previously helped yourselves to an amount equivalent to US$108 000 before you were directed through a letter by CAF and FIFA, we are at a loss as to why you and your grouping would proceed to agree to share the equipment from a donor (FIFA) who has not authorised you to do so and who has previously stated that they do not recognise you as the legitimate leaders of ZIFA and directed times without number that you should not utilise their resources.

The Kamambo-led ZIFA executive was suspended by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in November last year over allegations including misappropriations of public funds.
Banda and his team were appointed in the interim but FIFA rejected the move and demanded the reinstatement of the suspended board members.

Kamambo Warns Interim ZIFA President Gift Banda

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Executive Committee led by acting president Gift Banda met on Friday 14 October 2022, in Harare and deliberated on a number of issues affecting local football.
The ZIFA Executive Committee resolved to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on the 29th of October 2022.
ZIFA Acting General Secretary Xolisani Gwesela said the agenda of the EGM will be the Executive Committee Report, the ZIFA Executive Committee and Congress tenure and the Forensic Audit Report. He added:

The Executive Committee deliberated on improving the standards of refereeing in the country citing that professional refereeing preserves the sacrosanct values of the game.
The executive committee applauded the referees’ committee and referees for improving refereeing standards through the continuous capacity development of referees, commissioners and referee assessors.

Meanwhile, ZIFA is still suspended from international football by FIFA following the November 2021 suspension of the elected ZIFA board that was led by Felton Kamambo by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).
Recently, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/parliament-gives-minister-coventry-ultimatum-to-ensure-src-reverses-suspension-of-zifa-board/">members of Parliament gave Sports Minister, Kirtsy Coventry, a 31 October 2022 ultimatum</a> to ensure that the SRC reinstates the Kamambo-led ZIFA board.

ZIFA To Hold Extraordinary General Meeting On 29 October

Interim ZIFA president Gift Banda said the next board meeting will deliberate on the appointment of a substantive coach for the Warriors.
Banda told The Herald that the Warriors coach should be local, arguing that foreign coaches are not always the best candidates for the job. Said, Banda:

We will sit down with my fellow board members and deliberate on it in our next board meeting so that we have a substantive coach.
If you ask for my preference, I would prefer a local coach because it’s high time we gave our own coaches the chance to lead our teams because it’s not everything that is foreign that is good for us.
Again in that vein, I would also add that as a nation we must have an identity.
What type of football do we want to play so we put it in the structures up to the junior level?

The Warriors currently do not have a substantive coach following the expiry of Norman Mapeza’s contract.

Interim ZIFA President Says He Prefers Local Coach For Warriors

An MDC Alliance (MDC-A) Member of Parliament has unveiled a scholarship programme for the academically gifted learners in his constituency who are from poor backgrounds.
Gift Banda, who represents Njube-Lobengula in the National Assembly, launched the scholarship programme on Thursday that will benefit primary and secondary school students.
Banda said a survey conducted by the Njube Constituency Development Committee revealed that a significant number of students coming from poor backgrounds such as orphans are now being forced to drop out of school. He said:
<blockquote>It is for this reason why we decided to come up with this revolving scholarship programme targeting the academically gifted from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This programme targets all students notwithstanding the political affiliation of their elders at their homes.</blockquote>
Banda said they are working with the constituency development committee, social welfare and school heads in the constituency to identify the beneficiaries.
Ten schools targeted under the educational scholarship fund are Mawaba, Nkanyezi, Mtshede, Ngubo, Nyamande, Helem and Nsukamini primary schools and Lobengula Sikhulile and Njube secondary schools.

MDC-A MP Launches Scholarship Programme

Suspended ZIFA Vice President Gift banda has refused to be silenced by ZIFA as he continues to fight the football body which is claiming he erred in his conduct despite being acquitted twice by the body’s disciplinary committee, the Chronicle reports.
According to the publication, Banda through his lawyers during his hearing before the appeals committee said the condonation application is an incompetent and futile attempt by the association to continue enjoying the attention of the Appeals Committee. Said Banda in his defence:
<blockquote>I am unaware of the 21-day notice given for such a meeting. Most notably I never exercised my right to vote on this subject as I ought to have. This resolution is therefore defective and of no consequence and the meeting on which this application is based is therefore a nullity,</blockquote>
Banda is also challenging the body’s reason for not availing his legal team with proof of payment for the appeal fees, ZIFA reportedly said the person who has the receipt, Liberty Mateveke, could not get into town because of the lockdown:
<blockquote>We are expected to understand that of all the applicant’s employees, this one failed to get into town from his home. We are further expected to understand that he goes to his home with receipts, including appeal fees receipts, particularly the one in question. We are also expected to understand that if anything should require that he is not present, from either home or office, the totality of proof of monetary receipts will go missing, crucially together with him.
It’s even more stranger that there is no word from Liberty Mateveke himself. There is nothing to even suggest that this Liberty Mateveke exists. It is just Joseph Mamutse’s word against reason. Unless this Liberty Mateveke is still trying to make it into the CBD then nothing explains the absence of a supporting affidavit from him.</blockquote>
The hearing was postponed so that the ZIFA lawyer could prepare his response.

Gift Banda ZIFA Case Rages On

ZIFA has reportedly failed to provide Gift Banda’s lawyers with the association’s bank statements ahead of today’s hearing in which ZIFA is seeking that Banda’s case be heard again by the Appeals Board, The Herald reports.
Last week, it headlined that ZIFA <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/06/20/mystery-over-zifa-gift-banda-case-appeal-fees-haunts-zifa/">mysteriously paid $120 000 appeals fee from and to its own account</a> after the appeals committee had decided to uphold the disciplinary committee’s ruling that absolved Gift Banda of any wrongdoing in his conduct.
Gift Banda’s lawyer, Munyaradzi Nzarayapenga of Dube-Banda, Nzarayapenga and Partners has demanded that ZIFA presents a bank statement which showed the actual movement of the appeals fee:
<blockquote>I haven’t been briefed to the contrary by my legal team, we still don’t have the bank statement we asked for.</blockquote>
Gift Banda was suspended after he reportedly made changes to the Warriors’ technical team without consulting the board. However, the disciplinary committee acquited him and said he only made recommendations and not actually appointments.

ZIFA Fails To Avail Bank Statements To Gift Banda's Legal Team

ZIFA has presented the Appeals Committee with a receipt of $120 000 appeals fees needed for the committee to hear ZIFA’s case against the decision by the disciplinary committee to acquit Gift Banda of any wrongdoing after the former accused the latter of making changes to the Warriors’ team without consulting the board, The Chronicle report.
The first mystery about the appeal fees is: Who authorised the upward review of the appeal fees from the previous $3000 to $120 000
The second mystery is: How did Zifa manage to move money from and to the same account through electronic means,
The appeals fees review is a mystery mainly because according to the publication:
<blockquote>Appeal fees are rectified by a full congress and Zifa are yet to hold one having postponed the 2020 congress to September due to the Covid-19 pandemic while the issue was never brought for discussion in their last congress in 2019.</blockquote>

Mystery Over ZIFA - Gift Banda Case Appeal Fees Haunts ZIFA

The case of ZIFA’s suspended vice-president, Gift Banda, has been postponed to 11 April. The football board seeks disciplinary action against Banda.
The postponement was caused by ZIFA’s failure to provide Banda with documents vital to the matter. Minutes of the January 16 meeting which resolved Banda’s suspension are considered one of such essential documents.
The meeting followed Banda’s dismissal of Sunday Chidzambwa’s assistants Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa and replaced them with Bongani Mafu and Tonderai Ndiraya.
Zifa lawyer, Chenaimoyo Gumiro, confirmed the developments. Gumiro said:
<blockquote>The matter was postponed to enable Zifa to serve Banda with documents he requested to enable him to prepare for his defence.</blockquote>

Gift Banda Hearing Postponed

ZIFA vice-president Gift Banda was suspended yesterday following a meeting by ZIFA’s board held in Harare.
Banda was suspended for allegedly reshuffling the Warriors technical team without the blessing of his boss, Felton Kamambo, and other board members. Kamambo was out of the country in Senegal for the Caf awards at the time. Banda, who was Zifa acting president when he announced that Rahman Gumbo and Lloyd Mutasa had been relieved of their duties and replaced by Bongani Mafu and Tonderai Ndiraya, was said to have acted beyond the jurisdiction of his authority.
In arguments presented to his fellow board members yesterday, Banda said he felt his role as the acting president empowered him to make such decisions. He even suggested that if what he did was out of line with the constitution,  the board could reverse the appointments. The matter was taken to a vote and four of the seven remaining members voted for Banda to be suspended, pending the confirmation of his suspension by the Zifa Council at the association’s annual meeting in March. Three voted for him to be retained as the vice-president.

ZIFA Vice President Gift Banda Suspended One Month Into Office

MDC-T Bulawayo province has recalled three councillors Sithabile Mataka (ward 2), Sheila Musonda (ward 8) and Tamani Moyo (ward 15) from council over alleged links to expelled deputy president, Thokozani Khupe.
Speaking to Southern Eye, Bulawayo provincial chairperson Gift Banda confirmed the development yesterday. Said Banda:
<blockquote>We have served them with the letters [of recall and expulsion]. Moyo’s case has been referred to the national council (NC) since he is a member. Only the NC can expel him, but as for those under our jurisdiction, we are handling their cases.</blockquote>
Banda, who is also the deputy mayor, said a number of party members in Bulawayo have since written to the provincial executive begging for forgiveness.

MDC-T Recalls 3 Councillors Linked To Khupe

MDC-T Bulawayo provincial chairperson and deputy mayor Gift Banda has filed an urgent application at the Bulawayo High Court alleging that vice president Thokozani Khupe has illegally grabbed the party’s provincial offices. This comes a few weeks after violence broke out between supporters of MDC-T president Nelson Chamisa and those of Khupe as the rival factions fought for control of the offices.
Part of Banda’s court papers read,
<blockquote>I submit that this matter is urgent because as a province we have nowhere else to operate from as all lawful structures of the party under my control and supervision have been excluded from accessing the offices at a critical time when we are processing candidate selection and preparing for crucial elections.
I seek this honourable court’s protection and intervention on an urgent basis from the unlawful actions of the respondents in despoiling me of control and occupation of our provincial offices. The practice is that any organ of Bulawayo province intending to use the party offices is required to seek my authority. I, as a matter of fact, grant such authority for all legitimate and lawful activities for the province.</blockquote>
Khupe has said that she will be filing her court papers opposing the application today (Friday).
