The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended director-general Eltah Nengomasha last week, pending a disciplinary hearing.
The reasons behind Nengomasha’s suspension have not been disclosed.
SRC board chairperson Gerald Mlotshwa confirmed the development in a brief statement.
According to the SRC, Sebastian Garikai will take on the duties of Acting Director-General, a role he had previously fulfilled before Nengomasha’s appointment. Reads the statement:

Please take note that pending the finalisation of a Hearing, the Director-General of the SRC has been suspended.
Mr Sebastian Garikai will assume the role of Director-General in an Acting capacity until further notice.

Nengomasha became the Director-General of the SRC in March 2023.

SRC Suspends Director-General, Eltah Nengomasha

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) expects to complete the rehabilitation of the National Sports Stadium to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) minimum standards by the end of this year, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200031356/national-sports-stadium-ready-by-december-2024">NewsDay</a>.
In a recent update, SRC board chairman Gerald Mlotshwa and director-general Elta Nengomasha provided details on the ongoing renovations at Zimbabwe’s largest sports facility.
Mlotshwa announced that the first batch of 15,000 bucket seats, purchased from China, has already arrived in Beira, Mozambique.
The seats will be transported to Harare once the necessary paperwork is finalised. He said:

I am happy to report that as of today, the first batch of the bucket seats is now in Beira, ready for shipping to Zimbabwe.
Those timeframes to Zimbabwe are what we are busy trying to ascertain so that we give accurate information.
</blockquote>
Mlotshwa added that the SRC is targeting completion of all the renovation work by December. However, he noted that the pitch itself will require major refurbishment.
Nengomasha further elaborated on the ongoing projects, saying they are currently working on installing a new perimeter fence and upgrading the water reticulation system at the stadium. She said:

In preparation to receive the bucket seats and other equipment, we are securing the stadium with a new perimeter fence. We expect that to be complete by the end of August.
Water reticulation, if you come to the stadium, you will find that the first half of the reticulation has been done. The trenches have been dug and the piping is on site.
</blockquote>
Nengomasha also revealed that the turnstiles and CCTV equipment have already been delivered to the National Sports Stadium, and the team is now waiting to begin the installation. Added Nengomasha:

We need special lighting for the floodlights, which is in line with CAF standards. In terms of the floodlights, there is a contractor that is in place and most of the preliminary work has been done.

Due to the lack of a CAF-certified stadium in Zimbabwe, the national team, the Warriors, as well as Premier Soccer League clubs Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum Stars, have been forced to host their home matches in CAF competitions on foreign soil.
In November 2023, Zimbabwe hosted Nigeria in Rwanda in the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers. In June 2024, the Warriors played their World Cup qualifier home match against Lesotho in South Africa, and in September 2024, they are scheduled to host Cameroon in Uganda in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
This past weekend, Dynamos hosted ZESCO United in Botswana for their CAF Confederation Cup fixture, while Ngezi Platinum Stars welcomed Maniema Union in Zambia for their CAF Champions League home game.

The National Sports Stadium in Zimbabwe is getting renovated to meet CAF standards by December. New seats and equipment are being installed. The stadium will have a new perimeter fence, upgraded water system, improved lighting, and more. The Warriors and local clubs have had to play home matches outside Zimbabwe due to the lack of a certified stadium. But once the renovations are done, they can host games at home. The goal is to have everything ready by the end of the year.

National Sports Stadium Ready By December 2024 - SRC

The Zifa Normalisation Committee did not attend the commissioning of the Heart Stadium by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The event was attended by top government officials, ambassadors, business people, premier league bosses, coaches, media, and players. The absence of the committee drew the anger of Sports and Recreation Commission chairman Gerald Mlotshwa, who expressed disappointment and vowed to address the issue. Mlotshwa emphasized that efforts to develop sports infrastructure should be supported by all. Speaking at the event, Mlothswa said:

Your Excellency, I note that the Zifa Normalisation Committee, notwithstanding specific invitations from the host and SRC, is not here representing football. That, your Excellency, is an anomaly we will attend to. Efforts of this nature should be supported by all so that we move in one direction.

The Heart Stadium, built by Yadah FC founder and president Walter Magaya, has a seating capacity of 5,000. It features trendy dugouts, a modern VIP enclosure, corporate boxes, and spacious dressing rooms equipped with modern electronic facilities. Magaya plans to increase the seating capacity to 10,000 by February next year and has offered Ngezi Platinum and Dynamos the opportunity to use the facility for their continental club matches.
Mnangagwa, after touring the facilities, expressed his admiration and praised Magaya for his contribution to the country. He encouraged others in the private sector to follow Magaya’s example in developing sports infrastructure. Sports minister Kirsty Coventry also lauded the project and highlighted the potential for the facility to host national and international events.
Not attending an event officiated by the president could have potential consequences, including the possibility of being fired. In Zimbabwe, there is a system of nepotism and patronage, where connections to political elites often play a role in advancing one’s interests. Although political interference in sports is not allowed, it is common for football administrators in the country to have connections to political elites. Previous administrators such as Felton Kamambo, Philip Chiyangwa, Henrietta Rushwaya, and Cuthbert Dube were linked to the ruling party, ZANU PF. Having connections to political elites in football administration can offer advantages and opportunities. However, it can also lead to conflicts of interest when the priorities of the nation clash with the interests of political elites. In such cases, the interests of the political elites often take precedence, and those who go against their wishes may face negative consequences, such as losing their positions.

ZIFA Could Be In Trouble For Not Attending The Commissioning Of Magaya's Heart Stadium

Journalist <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Stanley_Gama">Stanley Gama</a>, who is a former editor of the Daily News, says SRC chairperson <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Gerald_Mlotshwa">Gerald Mlotshwa</a> and some board members are to blame for the suspension of Zimbabwe from international football by FIFA over a year ago.
Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA in February last year for third-party interference, after the SRC suspended the ZIFA executive, led by Felton Kamambo, for a number of allegations, among them, failure to account for public funds and sexual harassment of female referees.
On Monday, 10 July, FIFA lifted the suspension on Zimbabwe and appointed a normalisation committee.
Gama said Mlotshwa failed to learn from his past mistake when SRC was forced to reinstate the Zimbabwe Cricket Board after the country was banned by the International Cricket Council. <a href="https://twitter.com/gama_stanley/status/1678593919808860162?s=20">Said Gama</a>:

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) led by [President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s] son-in-law Gerald Mlotshwa and the likes of [Karen Mutasa], wife to businessman Shingi Mutasa is to blame for Zimbabwe’s long isolation from football because of their shambolic and unwise decision to suspend the ZIFA Board.
Admittedly, the Felton Kamambo board was the worst in living memory, but for SRC to take the foolish decision to suspend them was obviously going to attract serious action from FIFA who don’t take kindly to political interference in football. SRC is a government arm…
The truth is the SRC is made up of politically connected and well-up people who follow elitist sports like polo and who do not understand football at all.
They don’t understand the pain of a township boy/girl missing out on international football. Mlotshwa does not learn.
He suspended the Zimbabwe Cricket Board and the ICC suspended Zimbabwe. They were only reinstated after the SRC lifted the suspension.

The SRC suspended the ZC board in June 2019 over allegations of electoral malpractices and financial misappropriation in a move that was deemed as “government interference” by the ICC.
On 24 July, ICC wrote to SRC directing them to “unconditionally” reinstate the ousted board or risk termination of their membership.
The SRC reversed its decision after two Zimbabwean senior sides at the T20 World Cup qualifiers had already been replaced by Namibia and Nigeria.

"Gerald Mlotshwa, Karen Mutasa To Blame For FIFA Ban"

The Gerald Mlotshwa-led Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction over recent engagements with officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA.
The officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA were in the country this week on a fact-finding mission.
In a statement released on Thursday night, SRC said it held “productive meetings” with the officials and they broadly agreed on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation. Reads the statement:

Throughout the week, FIFA and CAF engaged with various stakeholders and officials involved in Zimbabwean football to gather their perspectives.
A common sentiment among these stakeholders was the need for strong, lawful governance structures to support Zimbabwe’s return to international football, as well as a commitment to implementing necessary reforms for the sport’s future development and success in the country.
The SRC has also been involved in productive discussions with FIFA and CAF, including COSAFA, with a mutual goal of resolving the issues surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The conversations have been marked by good faith from all parties and a genuine interest in advancing solutions.
The outcomes of these discussions have been promising, with the SRC, CAF, and FIFA generally agreeing on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation.
… The commission deeply appreciates the firm support and positions taken by all stakeholders involved in this week’s consultations.
These stakeholders have been clear about the changes needed in Zimbabwean football and have collectively called for a swift resolution to ZIFA’s challenges.

The SRC said will provide further updates to the public on the matter in the first week of May 2023.
The SRC did not reveal the issues they agreed on with representatives from both FIFA and CAF.

SRC Optimistic After Meeting FIFA, CAF Delegation

FIFA upheld the suspension of Zimbabwe from international football saying the ban can only be lifted when or if the southern African country has implemented its recommendations.
Zimbabwe was suspended in February 2022 after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the ZIFA board headed by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> over alleged maladministration and sexual abuse of female referees. 
FIFA said the suspension of the Felton Kamambo-led board constituted government interference with the sport.
The ban on Zimbabwe can only be lifted when the Felton Kamambo-led board has been reinstated, FIFA declared.
An overwhelming 199 over 200 people voted for the upholding of the suspension of Zimbabwe at the FIFA Congress being held in Rwanda. 
Meanwhile, SRC has said it did not apply for readmission. SRC board chairman, Gerald Mlotshwa said the commission’s immediate focus remains to oversee the implementation of key reforms which were recommended by the ZIFA Restructuring Committee before any efforts to have the suspension lifted. 
The SRC also says they are no longer in a position to legally reinstate Kamambo since he was recalled by the ZIFA Congress in April 2022.

FIFA Upholds Zimbabwe Suspension

Football fans have pleaded with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to intervene in the dispute between the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and the suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board to ensure that the sanctions imposed on the country by FIFA are lifted.
Zimbabwe national football teams and clubs are banned from participating in international football tournaments after the country was suspended by FIFA in early 2022.
The suspension came after the SRCled by Gerald Mlotshwa dismissed ZIFA board members including its president, Felton Kamambo over a litany of allegations including corruption and the sexual harassment of female referees.
In a recent statement, Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters’ Association (ZNSSA) secretary-general Joseph Mutawu said Mnangagwa should intervene to end the impasse between SRC and ZIFA. He said:

We urge and plead with our listening President ED Mnangagwa to chip in, reign in Mlotshwa and Kamambo and knock sense in their heads.
</blockquote>
Football stars such as Marshall Munetsi, coaches, administrators, and parliamentarians have all been calling for Mlotshwa to reinstate Kamambo so that the country can return to international football.
Mlotshwa and the SRC have made it clear that getting the FIFA suspension lifted is not a priority. Said ZNSSA:

All these calls from the football-loving community and the oversight from Parliament fell on deaf ears of Gerald Mlotshwa-led SRC.
Mlotshwa has responded by saying that Zimbabwe was not in a hurry to get the FIFA suspension lifted. Like seriously Mlotshwa?
This was a rude and unthoughtful statement. How dare you Mlotshwa? As supporters, we have now realised that the road which was taken by SRC is leading us to nowhere.
The only expected destination in this case is leading Zimbabwe football into oblivion, destruction, extinction and misery.
That cannot happen under our watch as supporters and we demand that SRC end this madness.
</blockquote>
Mlotshwa recently said it was now impossible to reinstate Kamambo saying doing so will be in violation of the ZIFA constitution and SRC Act. He said:

It is a fact that Felton Kamambo is no longer the ZIFA president, having been recalled by his own congress.
It follows, logically, that the SRC is not able to reinstate him to that position. 
Any such attempt would, ironically, be blatantly unlawful in terms of ZIFA’s current constitution, as well as the SRC Act.

Football Fans Urge Mnangagwa To "Knock Some Sense" Into Gerald Mlotshwa

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), has said the male and female national football teams – Warriors and Mighty Warriors – should receive direct budgetary and administrative support from the government.
The SRC made the recommendations in a statement titled, “<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zifa-restructuring-committee-hands-over-report-to-src/">Presentation of Key Recommendations of the ZIFA Restructuring Committee</a>.” Read in part the statement seen by Pindula News:

<h2>5.2 The Warriors and Mighty Warriors</h2>
The committee recommended that these national teams should be housed in a structure that receives direct budgetary and administrative support from Government whilst ensuring that FIFA rules are respected in so far as the principle of non-interference is concerned.
<h2>5.3 Junior Football</h2>
The committee recommended that ZIFA develop a standardized system to rate academy programs and school programs.
There should be developed a national database for all junior players that is functional and easily accessible.
Additionally, ZIFA should develop and support quality leagues and competitions accessible for all ages and skill levels.
<h2>5.4 Women’s Football</h2>
Women should be empowered to manage their own affairs in football. Key to this is allowing them to have direct access to FIFA funding so that it is applied to purposes intended. Women should be included at all levels of the game’s administration on a quota system.
<h2>5.5 Facilities</h2>
ZIFA should be at the forefront, either with FIFA’s assistance, or through effective lobbying of Government and local authorities, of developing facilities that encourage use for football games at a professional and recreational level. 
There should be a FIFA-rated national training centre. ZIFA village is not fit for purpose.
<h2>5.6 Communication &amp; Marketing</h2>
ZIFA relies almost exclusively on FIFA and CAF funding for its operations. It was recommended that ZIFA invest in senior business strategy and marketing positions. It should respect and maximize partnerships and retail opportunities and identify new revenue streams. ZIFA should be run as a business, not as a fiefdom or cabal.
<h2>5.7 Development of Administrators</h2>
Office bearers, administrators and coaches must have minimal CAF and FIFA qualifications and/or training. Coaching standards must be set and regulated.
<h2>5.8 Football in Schools</h2>
ZIFA should develop a specific strategy as part of a five-year plan for fostering football in the school system, especially for girls.

The SRC also said it had provided the findings and recommendations of the restructuring committee to the Executive Committee of ZIFA for the purposes of drafting a roadmap. 
The committee also said once they are on the same page with ZIFA, the two organisations will then approach FIFA for endorsement.
SRC suspended the ZIFA board then led by Felton Kamambo for alleged maladministration and sexual abuse of female referees. The move attracted a ban on Zimbabwean football by FIFA which accused the government of interfering with the sport. Zimbabwe remains banned.

"Warriors, Mighty Warriors Should Receive Direct Budgetary Support From Govt" - SRC

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission">Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC)</a> have indicated that they are in no hurry to get the country’s FIFA suspension lifted. 
Gerald Mlotshwa, who was presenting ZIFA’s forensic audit, Thursday, said the lifting of the suspension was not their priority, adding that they were prepared to face off with FIFA even if it meant extending the fight beyond a lifetime.
Zimbabwe was suspended in February after the Mlotshwa-led SRC sacked the then ZIFA president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Felton_Kamambo">Felton Kamambo</a> alongside his board members that include Philemon Machana and Joseph Mamutse. Said Mlotshwa:
<blockquote>
The lifting of the suspension is not a priority, let us get that out of our heads, our priority is the process to clean up our football,” 
We are not in a rush at this point in time to go to FIFA and say lift the suspension. They will ask us whether we have cured all the things we gave as reasons when we suspended the ZIFA board, we are not there yet.
When you restructure or implement reforms, that is not an overnight process, that process has already started and it started when we suspended the executive committee and it is an ongoing one with certain milestones.
I will tell you that the reform process does not stop, you are continuously developing yourself, FIFA itself has already said we are underwriting this. DO not misunderstand this however as an indication that FIFA will then automatically lift the suspension.
ZIFA will approach FIFA and formally ask for lifting of that suspension when we feel that we are ready to do so. This will be an ongoing process and might even outlive you.

Zimbabwe has, since the suspension, missed out on the COSAFA Cup finals, AFCON and World Cup qualifiers while clubs were not included in the 2022 and next year’s African Safaris.
Kenya, which was suspended at around the same time as Zimbabwe has been re-admitted by FIFA after its government withdrew its decision to suspend football federation officials in hopes of ‘cleaning the football mess there.’ 
Mlotshwa’s sentiments, supported by ZIFA president Gift Banda, come at a time calls for Zimbabwe to be re-admitted into the football mother body’s fold have grown.
Players and administrators have joined in the push for re-admission which, according to FIFA, can only be done when the Kamambo-led ZIFA executive committee has been reappointed.
Banda said they were in agreement with the SRC that the football in Zimbabwe has to be cleaned.

"ZIFA Will Approach FIFA When We Feel Ready To Do So, The Process Might Outlive You"

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has announced the outcome of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) extraordinary general congress held on 23 April 2022.
In a statement on Wednesday, 8 June 2022, SRC board chairman Gerald Mlotshwa said the suspensions of Barbra Chikosi, Farai Jere and Sugar Chagonda have been lifted with immediate effect.
Chikosi, Jere and Chagonda are Zimbabwe Women Soccer League chairperson, Premier Soccer League chairman, and ZIFA board member in charge of competitions, in that order.
Mlotshwa also revealed that BDO Chartered Accountants have commenced their forensic audit into the financial and operational affairs of ZIFA. Pindula News is publishing the statement issued by Mlotshwa below:

The SRC hereby advises the public that following the outcome of the ZIFA extraordinary general congress held on 23rd April 2022, and the subsequent dismissal, with costs, of the appeals of Messrs. Mamutse, Kamambo, Malandule and Machana against their suspensions by the SRC by the Administrative Court, the Commission has resolved that:
(i) That the suspensions of Mrs Barbara Chikosi and Messrs. Farai Jere and Sugar Chagonda, have been lifted with immediate effect.
(ii) That the reinstatement of Hon. Gift Banda as ZIFA Vice-President, by the ZIFA Congress during its EGM at its extraordinary general congress of 23rd April 2022, has been noted – Hon. Banda was never the subject of any suspension from the SRC.
(iii) That the appointment of Hon. Gift Banda as Interim President of ZIFA by the ZIFA Congress during its EGM aforesaid is duly noted.
The lifting of the suspensions is based on specific undertakings given to the SRC by members of the ZIFA delegation in their meeting on 29th April 2022 with the Board of Commissioners.
Those undertakings have been reduced to writing and constitute an elaboration of a roadmap, previously made available to the SRC by FIFA on 6th December 2021.
The SRC Board Committee on ZIFA Restructuring is at a point where certain of its recommendations require to be placed before ZIFA formally.
The lifting of the ZIFA suspension will aid in this important process, particularly in regard to the implementation of key reforms.
BDO Chartered Accountants have commenced their forensic audit into the financial and operational affairs of ZIFA. Their findings will be made public.
The SRC has directed ZIFA to inform FIFA and CAF of these developments.

SRC Approves Banda's Appointment As Interim ZIFA President

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) say there haven’t been any changes to the charges the ousted ZIFA board were facing.
On Tuesday, SRC chairman Gerald Mlotshwa addressed a media conference, in the company of some of his fellow Commissioners, where he announced the dissolution of the ZIFA board.
He revealed seven allegations that the Commission had levelled against the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board, among them mismanagement and lack of accountability and a failure to address gender imbalances relating to the treatment of female national teams.
On Thursday, ZIFA lawyer, Chenaimoyo Gumiro, said the charges, which his clients were now facing, had been whittled down to just one.
Gumiro said the only charge, according to the latest communication they received from the SRC, was related to the trip which ZIFA financed, on a chartered flight, for their Councillors and some supporters, to watch the 2019 Nations Cup finals, in Egypt.
However, on Friday, Mlotshwa said a second letter, addressed to ZIFA on Wednesday, only dealt with the charge of the trip to Egypt and the public funds the association received related to the AFCON finals.
Mlotshwa indicated that the statement released by SRC on Tuesday was not a legal document but was meant for the press. He said:

There were no changes. There was a statement done for the press.
This is the document (the media) got on the day (of the announcement).
It’s not a legal document.
A separate letter was done to the ZIFA directors, making it clear that their suspension was based on the allegations, of the letter of 3rd July 2019.
The confusion came about because the SRC management sent a wrong draft to ZIFA.
This was recalled and the correct authorised letter sent.

Mlotshwa also provided clarity on the status of the ZIFA board members, who were ousted this week, but hold other portfolios in their constituencies.
Farai Jere, the PSL chairman, and Barbra Chikosi, the women’s football boss, sit on the ZIFA board by virtue of the positions they hold at their constituencies.
Unlike the other board members, the duo is not elected directly by the ZIFA Assembly.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gerald_Mlotshwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gerald Mlotshwa</a>, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son-in-law has been appointed to the board of Redcliff based coke-making firm, ZimCoke.
Former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) deputy governor and former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Nicholas Ncube, has been appointed the chairperson. In a statement on Tuesday, Ncube said:
<blockquote>ZimCoke, the recently formed company responsible for the production of Coke and related products in Zimbabwe, has announced the establishment of its first Board of Directors.
[These individuals are] prominent Zimbabweans and also include the depth and breadth necessary to help guide and advise the Company as it conducts operations necessary to bring back into production the 160 coke ovens that formerly comprised the Coke Division of Ziscosteel Limited</blockquote>
Besides Mlotshwa and Ncube, the other board members include Philemon Nhachi, Emma Fundira, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Eddie_Cross" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Eddie Cross</a>, Lillian Mbayiwa, ZimCoke Operations Director Michael Moore and Valentine Mushayakarara.
Mlotshwa was recently appointed the chairperson of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sports_and_Recreation_Commission" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sports and Recreation Commission</a> while Cross was appointed to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Monetary Policy Committee.

Zimbabwe Cricket today announced a new board elected at an Annual General Meeting in Victoria Falls.

Zimbabwe Cricket Elects New Board Despite Government Calling Off AGM

A new board of the Sport and Recreation Commission was announced Friday. It is headed by lawyer and entrepreneur, Gerald Mlotshwa. Mlotshwa is President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son in law.
The announcement was made by Acting Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Kazembe Kazembe yesterday. The old board was dissolved by the then new Minister of Sport Kirsty Coventry in September 2018.

New Sport And Recreation Commission Headed By Mnangagwa Son In Law

Former national cricket team coach Heath Streak has applied to the High Court seeking an order for the provisional liquidation of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). Streak wants the court to appoint a provisional liquidator, arguing that the cricket governing body has failed to pay its debts. Streak who is represented by Gerald Mlotshwa said in his application,
<blockquote>This is an application in terms of Section 6 of the Insolvency Act (Chapter6:07) for an order of liquidation of the first respondent (ZC) in that the first respondent is unable to pay its debts as and when they become due in the normal course of business…Furthermore, it is just and equitable that the first respondent be wound up, and creditors be paid off their debts.
…Applicant is a creditor of the first respondent and is owed the sum of $128 762,95. He is also aware that’s Messrs Lance Klusener, Sean Bells and Wayne James who are all cricket coaches and whose contracts of employment have been terminated illegally by the first respondent are owed the sums of $11 757,93, $43 999,23 and $14 175,66 respectively…Despite demand, the first respondent has failed or neglected to pay the debts in question.</blockquote>

Heath Streak Applies For Zimbabwe Cricket To Be Liquidated

Former national cricket team coach Heath Streak has challenged the legality of his dismissal. Streak together, with batting coach Lance Klusener and fitness trainer Sean Bell are being represented by Gerald Mlotshwa, the senior partner at Titan Law.
Streak alleges he was informed of his dismissal through WhatsApp messages from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) managing director Faisal Hasnain. Mlotshwa wrote a letter to Hasnain saying his clients remain ZC employees “on fixed-term contracts until their agreements are terminated in terms of the labour laws of Zimbabwe”. He argues that ZC did not follow due process before reaching the conclusion to fire the trio, including Streak, who still has seven months remaining on his contract. Said Mlotshwa:
<blockquote>The legality of Zimbabwe Cricket’s actions are beyond blatant. For the avoidance of doubt, our clients remain employees of ZC, on fixed-term contracts until their agreements are terminated in terms of the labour laws of Zimbabwe. It is also open to the parties to agree on mutual consent on termination of the same, or for ZC to simply wait for the said fixed contracts to run their term.</blockquote>

Heath Streak Challenges Legality Of Dismissal

Businessman James Makamba who was in self-imposed exile for the past 12 years is reported to be engaged in a fight for the control of mobile network operator, Telecel, with his former lawyer, Gerald Mlotshwa.  Mlotshwa is also President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son-in-law. Makamba returned home last year after the fall of former president Robert Mugabe and is now fighting for his stake in the Empowerment Corporation (EC) which was bought by Mlotshwa. Makamba is alleging that Mlotswa was his lawyer and was acting as a proxy as he was unable to conduct business on his own. The Empowerment Corporation owns 40 percent of Telecel.
The two are also reported to be battling to secure the 60 percent stake in Telecel which is owned by the government.Makamba refused to comment on the issue until the Zimbabwe Independent revealed its source. Said Makamba,
<blockquote>I will certainly give you the story, but I would want to know who your source is first. Name your source and I will talk, otherwise, it is like someone comes to you and says I hear that your father is not your father.</blockquote>
Minister of ICT and Cybersecurity Supa Mandiwanzira confirmed the matter although he said that the government would not involve themselves in the matter,
<blockquote>We have been approached by so many entities claiming shareholding in Empowerment Corporation and as government, we have not sought to entangle ourselves in the disputes.
What we have advised is that those who feel short-changed must approach the courts for redress. As for a dispute between Makamba and Mlotshwa; Makamba came to my office and told me that he had not sold any of his shares and that Mlotshwa was only his legal counsel.
The truth of the matter is that they are not the only ones interested in buying the Telecel stake. We have received interest from different people and several organisations who are interested in buying government’s 60% shareholding. I don’t think it would be fair to disclose their names to the media.</blockquote>

Mnangagwa's Son-In-Law, James Makamba Fight For Control Of Telecel

Daily News reports that Retired Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo’s wife and High Court judge Justice Loice Matanda Moyo is being considered for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC)’s top post following Justice Rita Makarau’s resignation.
The Daily News reports that seven people are being considered for the post. The people are either Supreme Court judges, High Court judges, prominent lawyers and the academia. In the Supreme Court, justices Elizabeth Gwaunza and Chinembiri Bhunu are being tipped to succeed Makarau and in High Court judges, George Chiweshe, Loice Matanda-Moyo and Priscilla Chigumba are also reportedly being considered.
Senior lawyer and University of Zimbabwe academic Emmanuel Magade, who is the current acting Zec chair, and Gerald Mlotshwa of Titan Law Chambers who is son in-law to Mnangagwa are also being tipped for the ZEC post.The Daily News could not get a comment from Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba as well as his advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa on when the position would be filled as the two were not taking calls.
According to section 238(1) of the Constitution, the chairperson of Zec is appointed by the president after consultation with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO). The Zec should be chaired by a senior lawyer who is a serving judge, a former judge or someone who is qualified to be a judge.
