The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Zimbabwe, in collaboration with various organisations, organised a march in Harare to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV). Participants, including the Zimbabwe Republic Police, musicians, and civic organisations, emphasized the importance of educating society about the harmful effects of GBV.
Radio Zimbabwe presenter, Thabani Gambiza, highlighted the need to engage with people and make them understand that GBV affects everyone. She said:

As broadcasters, we have had several programmes but it’s key to get in touch with the people as we did and make them understand that GBV is killing girls, women, men and generations.

Gospel artist Petronella Piwa encouraged fellow artists to use their influence to fight against GBV. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) emphasised the significance of partnerships in addressing GBV cases.
Population Service Zimbabwe emphasized the importance of enlightening communities about GBV, particularly in areas like Mbare where such cases are prevalent. The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, represented by National FM Station Manager Isaac Munzabwa, highlighted its commitment to raising awareness about GBV through various programs and news items. He said:

This march is part of a whole scope of programmes that we have on Radio Zimbabwe, National FM to raise awareness on GBV its effect on the community. We are a national institution, so we package our content for it to get to every corner of the country.
The campaign against GBV this year is running under the theme “Unite! Investing to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls.

Gender-based violence (GBV) refers to harmful acts inflicted on individuals based on their gender. It encompasses physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse. Signs of GBV include physical harm, sexual assault, verbal insults, economic control, and social isolation. While women, girls, and marginalised groups are often disproportionately affected, men and boys can also be victims. It is vital to create a safe and supportive environment that recognises and addresses the experiences of all individuals affected by GBV, seeking assistance and support for both men and women impacted by GBV.

ZBC, ZRP, Musicians And Civic Organisations March To Raise Awareness On Gender-based Violence

A 29-year-old man from Bulawayo was arrested for murder after he allegedly ran over his wife with a truck during a domestic dispute.
Police said Tendai Tigere Gondo allegedly killed his wife, Sanele Ndlovu (21) along Chaplain Road in Kumalo last Friday.
After the incident, Gondo is reported to have stage-managed a hit-and-run accident and made a false report to ZRP Bulawayo traffic.
In an unrelated incident, Police in Mazowe are looking for several suspects in connection with the murder of a member of a rival group while illegally mining gold at Jumbo Mine. Police said in a statement:

Police in Mazowe are investigating a case of murder which occurred on 17/09/22 at Jumbo Mine Mazowe.
The victim, only identified as Avon, was stabbed to death with an unidentified sharp object on the thigh by members of a rival group while illegally mining gold.
Some of the suspects were only identified as Black, Prosper, Madhinda, Morgan, Ever and Sistone. Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station.

Man Runs Over Wife With A Truck In Domestic Dispute

The Hopley One Stop Centre being run by Musasa Project says it has served a total of 500 women and girls who experienced gender-based violence (GBV) and other forms of violence over the past 10 months.
Hopley is supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Development.
Speaking during a visit to the centre by the UNFPA East and Southern Africa Director, Lydia Zigomo, Musasa Project Program Manager, Sharon Matingwina said:

We usually implement once a week in a month, and we rotate stations but this is the most common one and strategically so because it attracts a lot of women.
The entry point can be coming in for clinical services that can be coming in youth empowerment services so it’s very strategic, we get to meet a lot of women and adolescents girls and young women.
We work closely with the Victim Friendly Unit (VFU), the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) and the Ministry of Women Affairs so that we give a comprehensive package of services.
We have our Information hub in case someone just wasn’t to get a flier or just basic information about what we are offering here in Hopley and all the other centres that we are implementing.

She said a large number of young women come through to get services and most of them are young mothers or pregnant teenagers.
The young girls and women are given dignity kits to ensure they have access to sanitary wear, toiletries and other hygiene kits.
Matingwina said the One Stop Centre was now receiving GBV clients from farming areas around Harare. She said:

We have also realized that in the past weeks, some survivors are coming from farming sites such as retreat and Stoneridge.
We have tried to make sure that our mobile centre is not only stationed here but we go inside Hopley with our One Stop Center just to make sure women from all works of life get comprehensive packages of care.

Musasa One Stop Centre Assists 500 GBV Survivors

A murder and rape-accused man was arrested last week for killing a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zhombe">Zhombe</a> woman just after being released from prison on bail pending an appeal on other counts of murder and rape.
NewZimbabwe.com was told that Leonard Muwinga (32) of Zhombe had previously been arrested for three counts of murder and rape.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zibagwe_Rural_District_Council">Zibagwe Rural District Council</a> gender committee chairperson, Idirashe Dongo, who is Ward 30 councillor, said the now deceased, Primrose Siziba (32), died a painful death.
Dongo said the justice system was letting Gender-Based Violence (GBV) perpetrators off the hook. She said:

He had just been released on bail on three counts of raping and robbing three other women. On the fateful day, he followed her (the deceased) on her way home from her business and robbed her of her hard-earned money, tried to rape her and at last killed her with a knife.
As a gender representative, I urge that perpetrators of such heinous crimes be taken away from our communities permanently,” said Dongo.
We feel let down by the judiciary system as women. I also encourage that we participate fully on amendments of Bills that deal with such issues, so that the law fully protects us, and our voices as women be heard.
We have suffered enough violence from these perpetrators.

Siziba was running a business at Zhombe Shopping Centre. She was laid to rest Sunday in Zhombe.
<h2>What happened:</h2>
It is alleged that Siziba closed her tuckshop at Mushange and decided to go home.
She was with one Sekai Musekiwa (29) of Mapiye village, who only accompanied her for about 100 metres and returned to the business centre while Siziba proceeded on her own along Zhombe East-Sidhakeni road.
That was the last time Siziba was seen alive.
Her body was discovered the following morning by one Emildar Moyo lying about four metres from a side road in a bush at Mlotshwa village, Chief Samambwa area.
