The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has rejected a request by Chicken Inn FC to increase gate charges for their match against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
The Gamecocks, who use Luveve Stadium as their home ground, decided to host Bosso at the larger Barbourfields Stadium, presumably to accommodate the thousands of passionate Highlanders fans expected to attend the match.
Knowing Highlanders’ devoted fan base, Chicken Inn likely believed that hosting the game at the bigger venue would allow them to capitalize on the anticipated high attendance by hiking ticket prices, potentially providing a significant financial windfall.
However, in responding to Chicken Inn’s request, PSL Chief Executive Officer Kenny Ndebele stated that the standard gate charges would apply for the match.
Ndebele did not provide a detailed explanation for the PSL’s decision to reject Chicken Inn’s proposal, though in the past, similar requests from other clubs have been rejected. Wrote Ndebele:

We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 19 August 2024 and advise that your request to increase gate charges has not been approved.
Gate charges for your match against Highlanders FC shall remain as follows; Rest of Ground: US$3, VIP: US$5 and VVIP: US$10.
Meanwhile, football fans are divided over the move by the PSL to reject Chicken Inn’s request to hike gate charges.

Media consultant, Makomborero Mutimukulu, condemned the move and suggested that Ndebele has links to Highlanders. He said:

Maybe some teams are more equal than others. Chicken Inn must be feeling let down. And the fact that Kenny Ndebele has Bosso roots makes it even worse.
</blockquote>
Last Fambisayi had this to say:

They have already been allowed to use Barbourfields Stadium instead of Luveve, they are not a big team, they don’t play exciting football they just come for a draw and fake injuries the whole game. No need to increase prices, they already are getting more than they do at Luveve.

Responding to Mutimukulu, Busani Mthombeni said:

We note that there is a huge outcry on why the PSL turned down an application by Chicken Inn to increase their gate charges against Highlanders with some unfortunate aspersions that it’s all because of Kennedy Ndebele who is a former Highlanders executive member.
Facts do not lie, the channel is aware that when Highlanders played CAPS United they applied to increase the gate charges, THAT WAS TURNED DOWN.
When Highlanders played FC Platinum, the Bulawayo giants again applied to increase gate charges, THAT WAS TURNED DOWN.
New boys Chegutu Pirates made an application to increase their gate charges against Highlanders at Baobab Stadium, THAT WAS TURNED DOWN yet the match attracted a paltry 1 069 paying fans.
It is undeniable that Chicken Inn are aware that Highlanders are on a roll and buoyed on by the 12th man, Barbourfields Stadium may be a nightmare for them hence increasing the charges would likely reduce the number of fans.

I told the admin of Chicken Inn Football Club after the first leg that they need to take the Bulawayo crowds seriously because of their time-wasting antics.
Had we been playing Bulawayo Chiefs we would have gladly paid $5. Justify why you are worth $5 ROG by the product you offer and of all Byo teams, Chicken Inn have no right to demand $5 ROG. After all, they will be rolling around from minute 1.

Highlanders Football Club, arguably the local club that draws more fans at its home games, has been accused of ignoring security advice against transporting cash from their gate takings using unescorted private vehicles.
<a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/bosso-accused-of-defying-security-advice-on-transporting-gate-takings/">The Chronicle</a> reported that two female employees and a member of the executive allegedly took over US$5 000 after the Sunday match without any security escort.
The publication cited sources as saying the incident occurred soon after the counting of total gate takings and doing reconciliations from their league match against FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday where 11 046 fans were in attendance.
Two employees and one executive member (names supplied) were reportedly observed packing the money into plastic containers before walking out and getting into a private vehicle and driving off. Said a source:

At the pre-match meeting, it was clearly stated that clubs must engage CITs from reputable security companies to transport cash, especially now that fans, a majority of them, pay using forex.
That advice was obviously directed at Highlanders who are in the habit of doing that.
It was therefore surprising that a few hours later, they did exactly what security at the pre-match meeting had advised against.

It was not clear whether the money was being taken to the club offices or not.
Highlanders communications and marketing officer Nozibelo Maphosa could not reveal whether the trio’s actions were with the consent of the club, or the club has a contracted Cash-in-transit (CIT) van. She said:
We are not aware of such allegations, and for obvious security reasons, we cannot divulge to the public how we transit our cash.
On 29 September 2015, then Highlanders secretary Emmet Ndlovu was robbed at gunpoint at Edenvale in South Africa.
The robbers got away with US$300, P300, and R25 000 of club money.

"Highlanders Ignored Security Advice On Transporting Gate Takings"

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) will not reduce gate charges to bring back fans to stadiums in spite of poor attendance at matches last season.
Some football stakeholders have suggested that gate charges should be reduced from US$3 to US$1 in order to attract fans.
However, speaking on the sidelines of an induction workshop held at a city hotel, PSL chairman Farai Jere said US$3 for the cheapest ticket is a fair price. Said Jere:

When you are looking for solutions you should know that price is the last thing that you should look at.
If you look at the three dollars that we are charging now, it’s a fair price which is actually below the regional prices for a match day ticket.
We don’t want people to underrate the issues to do with the availability of critical stadium facilities like Rufaro Stadium in bringing people back to the stadium.
I still stand by the fact that football has to be brought to the people. You need to bring the football to where people are. We need Rufaro Stadium up and running.
At Barbourfields Highlanders versus Caps United was a full house at three dollars, it was the same Highlanders against Dynamos at the same venue, why are we not asking ourselves why the situation was like that?

Premier Soccer League Gate Charges Are Fair - Jere

Herentals coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, has called on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to keep gate charges of all topflight matches low in order to attract more football fans to stadiums.
Mutiwekuziva made the remarks after thousands of fans thronged Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Sunday to watch the Chibuku Super Cup final that pitted Bulawayo Chiefs against Herentals.
The PSL had reduced the cheapest ticket from US$3 to only US$1. Said Mutiwekuziva:

This is what football needs, this is the atmosphere that improves our football and the PSL should consider lowering tickets to US$1 next season if we are to maintain such crowds.
This is the largest crowd we have played in front of this season and surely, like everyone else we hope to have the same next season when we launch another attempt at the Chibuku Super Cup and league.

Herentals Coach Wants PSL To Keep Gate Charges At US$1

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has reduced gate charges for the Chibuku Super Cup final between Bulawayo Chiefs and Herentals at Barbourfields Stadium on 20 November.
Football fans will pay US$1 for a seat in the rest of the ground, US$2 for the VIP while the VVIP will be strictly for invited guests.
The PSL announced the gate charges on its social media pages on Monday.
Fans were being asked to pay a minimum of US$3 for league matches and the other stages of the Chibuku Super Cup from the first round to the semi-finals.
The sponsors have lined up some entertainment from popular dance ensemble Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) and rhumba/tshibilika musician Clement Magwaza for the finals, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200003199/us1-gate-charge-for-chibuku-super-cup-final">NewsDay</a>.
<h2>Journey to the final</h2>
On the way to the final, Bulawayo Chiefs defeated Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium before overcoming Black Rhinos in a penalty shoot-out in the semi-finals at Mandava Stadium.
Herentals beat Manica Diamonds in the quarter-finals at the National Sports Stadium and then triumphed over league champions FC Platinum in the semi-finals at Mandava, also in a penalty shootout.

PSL Reduces Gate Charges For Chibuku Super Cup Final

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced gate charges as matches resume this weekend.
The PSL said fans will pay US$3 for Rest of Ground, US$5 Grandstand and US$10 for the VIP section. Fans are also required to bring vaccination cards to access the stadium.
The league resumes after a near two-month-long break that coincided with the just-ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The campaign will resume with rearranged matchday three games that were postponed due to COVID-19 before the break which started on 21 December.
Chicken Inn will face Tenax at Luveve Stadium on Saturday while defending champions FC Platinum will take on Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday at the same venue.
Army side Black Rhinos and CAPS United clash at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare also on Sunday.

PSL Announces Gate Charges As Action Resumes This Weekend

The Premier Soccer League has with immediate effect hiked gate charges for all matches. The football authority, however, did not justify the move.
In a statement, PSL Communications and Media Liason Officer, Kudzai Bare said:
<blockquote>The Premier Soccer League would like to advise all stakeholders and football fans that gate charges for Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches have been reviewed upwards with immediate effect.
The new gate charges are as follows:
Rest of Ground: RTGS$10 
VIP: RTGS$20 
VVIP: RTGS$50
Clubs that wish to maintain the old prices are free to do so. We appeal to our fans to come in their numbers and support their teams.</blockquote>
