Galileo Resources, a company listed on the AIM Market of the London Stock Exchange, has discovered several substantial gold targets around the Queen’s Mine located near Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The company also identified a new gold-in-soil anomaly covering more than five square kilometres southeast of the Queen’s Mine with further anomalies to the southwest.
Galileo’s CEO, Colin Bird, said the survey successfully defined targets with gold associated with underlying structures that extend from known mineralisation. Bird said:

The recent completion of a gold-in-soil geochemical survey in the prolific Queen’s area has been highly successful in that it has clearly defined a number of targets where we have gold associated with underlying structures that extend from known mineralisation that has sustained both commercial and artisanal mining. Our intention now is to prioritise anomalies with a view to commencement of drill-testing by the end of the third quarter 2023.

The company’s priority now is to commence drill-testing by the end of the third quarter of 2023. 
Two weeks ago, Galileo Resources began drilling at Kamativi target in Zimbabwe after finding an unusual occurrence of lithium in soil and streams. The size of the deposit is similar to that of Arcadia deposit in Zimbabwe. The first drilling will test the areas with high levels of lithium and check if there is a chance of finding tin. Kamativi covers an area of 520 sq km, and Galileo can earn an 80% interest by spending US$1.5m on exploring and evaluating the area by July 21, 2024.
Galileo Resources has also taken a 51% stake in the Shinganda copper-gold project in Zambia for US$500,000. The company will fund and manage any further drilling, metallurgical and scoping studies to complete a feasibility study, according to the joint venture’s terms.

UK Company Galileo Resources Discover Gold Targets In Bulawayo

Two UK-listed companies have made significant progress in their efforts to mine lithium at separate projects in Zimbabwe, indicating sustained interest in Zimbabwean lithium despite an uncertain outlook for the battery metal. 
Galileo Resources, listed on London’s AIM market, has begun a drilling programme at the Kamativi target, where it discovered previously unknown lithium potential in March. The company believes its resource may be as large as the estimated 42.3-million-tonne deposit at Arcadia, which is being developed by Huayou Cobalt. newZWire cites CEO Colin Bird as saying:

We will quickly evaluate the target with an initial drill programme to test the stacked lithium-bearing pegmatites and results will determine the extent of follow-up drilling.

Meanwhile, Red Rock, another London-listed company, has been granted an environmental certificate for its first Zimbabwe project, paving the way for the company to start mining. Company chair Andrew Bell said:

Zimbabwe is a top ten lithium producer, and the biggest producer in Africa, and is known for its high-grade product. This is a significant milestone for Red Rock, and we are assessing the financial implications as we test material and delineate further the pegmatites within our licences.

Zimbabwe’s lithium potential has attracted interest from large metals companies such as Huayou Cobalt, Sinomine, and Chengxin, as well as British juniors such as Red Rock, Galileo, Premier African Minerals, Marula, and Arkle of Ireland. While lithium prices have softened over the past year, long-term demand for the metal is expected to help sustain interest in Zimbabwean lithium.

UK Firms Make Significant Progress To Lithium Mining In Zimbabwe

United Kingdom group, Galileo Resources PLC, said it has been granted an option to acquire a 51% stake in the Kamativi lithium project and the Bulawayo gold project.
Under the agreement:

<li>Galileo can earn an initial 51% interest in the two projects by spending US$1.5 million on exploration and evaluation by 21 January 2024 and paying US$100,000 to BC Ventures Ltd by 7 March 2022.</li>
<li>Galileo will also issue 13.7 million shares to settle £150 000 due to Cordoba Investments Ltd for all of its rights and obligations relating to the projects.</li>
</ul>
Galileo Resources chairman and chief executive Colin Bird said the project marks the company’s first move into Zimbabwe. Said Bird:
<blockquote>
This is a significant investment for Galileo, in that we have an option to acquire a controlling interest in what we consider a highly prospective lithium project in Southwest Zimbabwe.
The project is adjacent to the Kamativi mine, which produced tin for many years, closing in 1994.
The pegmatites in the area are known to contain lithium-bearing minerals, as well as tantalum and tin and the pegmatites will be the focus of our exploration programme.

Kamativi is close to the Kamitivi tin-tantalum mine which operated from 1936 to 1994 and is located in Matabeleland North Province.
The Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) is currently planning to produce lithium from mine tailings.
