Zimbabwean-born billionaire Strive Masiyiwa has been named among the Top 10 richest black people in the world in 2024.
According to the Forbes real-time index as of October 10, 2024, Masiyiwa was the 10th richest black person in the world.
The list also includes Aliko Dangote, a multi-sector investor in Nigeria, and David Steward, co-founder of World Wide Technology (WWT). Below are the 10 richest black people in the world:

The net worth of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Strive_Masiyiwa/">Strive Masiyiwa</a>, Zimbabwe’s richest man, has grown by $600 million since the beginning of 2023 at a time when some African billionaires have experienced significant declines in their fortunes this year.
According to Forbes, Masiyiwa’s net worth has surged by $600 million, largely due to the impressive performance of his diversified investment portfolio spanning various industries, such as telecommunications and technology. At the start of the year, his fortune was valued at $1.2 billion, but due to the strong performance of his broad assets, managed through his technology group, Econet Global, his net worth has now soared to $1.8 billion.
This recent increase has solidified Masiyiwa’s position as one of Africa’s richest businessmen and one of the world’s Black Billionaires, alongside prominent figures such as Jay-Z, Oprah Winfrey, Robert F. Smith, Patrice Motsepe, and Abdul Samad Rabiu.
The surge in Masiyiwa’s net worth can be attributed in large part to the outstanding growth of his publicly traded businesses on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, particularly Econet Zimbabwe and EcoCash Holdings. He holds a majority 52.85 percent stake in Econet Zimbabwe, the country’s largest telecom services provider, and another 30 percent stake in EcoCash Holdings, a diversified intelligent technology company focused on digital and financial solutions.

Strive Masiyiwa's Net Worth Up $600M While Other African Billionaires Decline

West Property Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Sharpe was on Friday honoured at the Forbes Best of Africa Awards held virtually by the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) Leadership and Philanthropy Round Table.
Sharpe became the first Zimbabwean to be recognised in Forbes Best of Africa Awards where he bagged the best of Africa Award of Excellence innovative chief executive officer of the year award. In accepting the award, Sharpe said:

My dream is to bring to Zimbabwe what I have seen in other countries. There is no reason why we can’t bring Dubai here to Zimbabwe.
I see hope and a bright future for Zimbabwe, I know we can build Zimbabwe and we are doing that brick by brick.
Africa is a continent of enormous, but untapped opportunity, mostly the news from Africa is negative — about corruption, inept leadership and mediocrity, but that is not the whole story.

The guest of honour at the event was the Nigerian vice-president Yemi Osinbajo, who was represented by the country’s Minister of Trade and Investment Niyi Adebayo.
Other winners at the event included Wendy Ackerman, a prominent Cape Town businesswoman who received the Forbes Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ackerman was instrumental in the development of the Pick-n-Pay brand alongside her husband, Raymond.
Sam Matekane, an entrepreneur and chairman of Matekane Group of Companies Lesotho, was also among the recipients.

Zimbabwean-born telecoms magnate Strive Masiyiwa was ranked the 11th richest black billionaire by Forbes as of 24 February 2021.
Masiyiwa made it to the list of the world’s top 15 billionaires which includes bi/multiracial individuals with Black ancestry.
According to Visual Capitalist, using <a href="https://www.forbes.com/real-time-billionaires/#4f5387253d78" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Forbes</a> real-time billionaire list to highlight the most financially successful Black people, Alinko Dangote of Nigeria (net worth $11.5 billion) is the richest black person on earth while Masiyiwa (net worth ($1.4 billion) is ranked 11th.

Strive Masiyiwa Ranked World's 11th Richest Black Person

Renowned economist and currency expert, Professor Steve Hanke of Johns Hopkins University has advised President Emmerson Mnangagwa to adopt the strategy of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first prime minister if he wants the country’s economy to recover. In the last few weeks, prices have been increasing due to fluctuating rates of foreign currency on the black market. According to Hanke, Zimbabwe needs to adopt four principles: stable money, no foreign aid, first-world competitiveness and the protection of private property and the public’s safety to grow its economy and become affluent. In an article written for Forbes Magazine, Hanke says
<blockquote>So, what should the Mnangagwa government do to put Zimbabwe on a road to recovery and liberty? Zimbabwe should adopt the strategy of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first prime minister. That strategy was based on four principles: stable money, no foreign aid, first-world competitiveness, and the protection of private property and the public’s safety. Mr Lee’s near-perfect execution of the strategy was a result of the fact that he surrounded himself with first-class civil servants and paid them first-wages. As a result, Singapore escaped the grinding poverty it faced in 1965 to become one of the world’s most affluent countries.
So far, the Mnangagwa government has not expressed interest in adopting any of the elements of the Singapore Strategy. Nor have members of his government displayed the kind of competence required to tow the economy out of the abyss. Zimbabwe remains in an economic ditch and the storm clouds are gathering.</blockquote>
After the fall of former President Robert Mugabe, Hanke offered the same advice. In an article written for the New York Times, Hanke said,
<blockquote>
Mr.Mnangagwa does not remind one of Mr Lee. Indeed, he was a pillar of Mr Mugabe’s regime. Unlike the impoverished populace, Mr Mnangagwa and his supporters in the military and party have done well under Mr Mugabe’s system of spoils…To deliver, Mr Mnangagwa must prohibit the issuance of New Zim dollars. The dollarization rules followed by the unity government should be restored. Mr Mnangagwa should also announce that private enterprise is Zimbabwe’s future.
….By adopting such a strategy, confidence and the economy would both soar. Zimbabwe’s G.D.P. per capita would reach the same level as Botswana’s current level in about 16 years. Zimbabweans’ level of income would then be almost six times its current level. Zimbabwe would once again be the “jewel of Africa.</blockquote>

Mnangagwa Must Copy Singapore Strategy If He Wants Zim's Economy To Recover: Prof Steve Hanke

Veteran musician Oliver Mtukudzi has been acknowledged as on of the most bankable artists in Africa. Business magazine Forbes has named Mtukudzi on its list of the Top 10 most bankable artists in Africa. He joins artists such as Akon,  Davido and Wizkid on the list.
