Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) senator Felix Magalela Sibanda says ZANU PF members who are lobbying for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to violate the country’s Constitution by extending his term to 2030 are criminals who should be arrested.
In a recent statement, Sibanda alleged that agitating for the violation of the Constitution is an act of treason, and those urging the President to breach the country’s supreme law should face legal consequences. Said Sibanda:

According to the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Chapter 5 (90), the President of Zimbabwe must uphold, defend and respect the Constitution as the supreme law of the nation and must ensure that the Constitution and all other laws are faithfully observed.
</blockquote>
Sibanda further asserted that all individuals agitating for President Mnangagwa to extend his term should be promptly arrested, as they are encouraging the blatant violation of the country’s supreme law, which he deemed highly unconstitutional and treasonous.
The former Bulawayo Senator argued that the police should have no difficulty identifying the culprits, as they have been recorded by the state broadcaster ZBC making what he described as “treasonous statements.” He said:

We, as concerned citizens, are calling and appealing to the Police Commissioner-General to move fast by arresting all these political zealots who want to cause untold socio-political upheavals in this country because of their self-preservation and selfish ends.
Police officers have a constitutional right to arrest anyone if there are reasonable suspicions that they are about to commit a crime or have actually committed a crime.
In this case, all suspects are well known and are recorded by ZBC [Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation television] and various local, regional and international news outlets.

Sibanda’s demands come after ZANU PF’s provincial structures have endorsed calls for President Mnangagwa to extend his term beyond 2028, the limit prescribed by the Constitution.
Constitutionally, a president is only permitted to serve two five-year terms and cannot benefit from amendments allowing for term extensions.
In recent months, Mnangagwa himself has publicly stated on two occasions his intention to retire at the end of his second and final term in 2028.

A group calling itself the MDC Veteran Activists Association (VAA) on Tuesday vowed to support MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa saying the former ICT minister was the one carrying forward the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s vision.
In a statement yesterday, VAA leader Felix Magalela Mafa Sibanda distanced the grouping from Gideon Mangena who had spoken in support of MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora. Said Sibanda:
<blockquote>We want to make it clear without any equivocation or ambiguity that (Morgan) Tsvangirai’s legacy of servant leadership, courage and indefatigable resistance in the face of brutal repression, service and self-sacrifice, the iconic leader of democracy and egalitarianism can only be realised under the leadership of Chamisa and his entourage.
As such, we want to rest assure genuine veterans of the democratic struggle that we are not part and parcel of Gideon Mangena’s group that has salivated at Mwonzora’s poisoned carrot to the extent of congratulating him for the so-called presidential ascent in MDC-T.</blockquote>
Mwonzora was elected MDC-T president at a chaotic extraordinary congress (EOC) held at the end of December last year.
He won the race by a country mile ahead Thokozani Khupe, who was then interim leader, Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri. Another contestant, Abednico Bhebhe, was fired from the party a month before the EOC was held.

MDC Veterans Back Chamisa, Reject Mwonzora

The MDC Alliance has complimented recalled legislators and councillors who were recalled for siding with Chamisa for deciding to rally behind a people backed movement especially when the temptation to discard the Chamisa led faction for the Khupe led formation is high due to looming recall threats, New Zimbabwe reports.
MDC Alliance deputy secretary for communication Felix Magalela Sibanda commenting on the issue of massive recalls by Khupe said:
<blockquote>On behalf of the National Council, National Executive, National standing committee and all constitutional structures of the MDC-A, I wish to salute all recently recalled councillors of the people in Harare, Gwanda, Beitbridge and Bulawayo respectively. We are saying remain resolute and never relent your birth right by 30 pieces of silver. The nation and everyone is watching. The days of all Judas Iscariot like-minded renegades are numbered.</blockquote>
These past few days Khupe has recalled 11 Councillors from Harare, 8 councillors in Bulawayo, 2 Councillors in Vic Falls, 3 councillors in Beitbridge including the Mayor Morgan Ncube, Gwanda Mayor, 5 Councillors in Marondera including Marondera Mayor Chengetai Marowa.
