Liverpool followed up their 4-0 win over Bournemouth in the league with a confident and dominant 4-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
20-year-old Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley produced a memorable display by scoring his first Liverpool goal in the first half.
Bradley, deputising for Trent Alexander Arnold who recently recovered from an injury, also grabbed two assists.
Darwin Nunez hit the woodwork four times, including a penalty in the first half, to set a record for a player hitting the woodwork four times in a single match.
Liverpool scored through Diogo Jota (23′), Bradley (39′), Dominik Szoboszlai (65′) and Luis Diaz (79′).
Chelsea scored their solitary goal through Christopher Nkunku (71′), after coming on at half-time.
In other matches played on Wednesday night, goals from Julian Alvarez (16′, 22′) and Rodri (42′) ensured Manchester City grabbed maximum points against Burnely, managed by former City captain Vincent Kompany.
Iraq-born Belgium defender Ameen Al-Dakhil scored a consolation for Burnley deep into stoppage time.
Destiny Udogie, Brenan Johnson and Richarlson scored for Tottenham in a 3-2 win over Brentford. Neal Maupay and Ivan Toney scored for the Bees.
In English Premier League matches played on Tuesday night, Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 2-1, Fulham and Everton played a goalless draw, Luton Town hammered Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0, Crystal Palace came from behind to beat Sheffield United 3-2 and Newcastle inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Liverpool Put 4 Past Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Win

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson scored three second-half goals to inflict the first Premier League defeat of the season on Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night.
The Blues won 4-1 against nine-player Spurs after Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were red-carded.
Ange Postecoglou’s side took the lead after only six minutes as Dejan Kulusevski’s shot deflected off Levi Colwill and spun beyond the Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea levelled through a Cole Palmer penalty (35′) after a VAR intervention. In the build-up to the penalty, Cristian Romero was adjudged to have fouled Enzo Fernandez in the box and was shown a red card by referee Michael Oliver.
Tottenham were reduced to nine men when Destiny Udogie was shown a second yellow card for a late challenge on Raheem Sterling (55′).
Chelsea eventually took the lead with 15 minutes remaining as Nicholas Jackson tapped into the net after being set up by Sterling.
Conor Gallagher squared for Jackson to tap home his second on the counter-attack (90+4′).
Jackson wasn’t finished as he raced onto Palmer’s through ball to round Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and complete his hat-trick.
The result of the match left Spurs in second place in the Premier League behind Manchester City.
Man City has 27 points, while Spurs has 26 points after 11 matches. Chelsea moved into the top half of the table.

Chelsea Beat Nine-player Tottenham Hotspur

English Premier League clubs on Friday, 14 April agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday shirts.
In a statement, the Premier League said the move came after consultations involving the League, its clubs, and the Government.
The Premier League said the agreement will begin at the end of the 2025/26 season. Reads the statement:
<blockquote>
Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.
The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the Government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.
The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship.
To assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025/26 season.

According to research conducted by Dr Darragh McGee of the University of Bath, whose results were published in 2019, “gambling is the worst addiction”.
His findings shared exclusively with <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jan/10/football-gambling-dire-consequences-young-men-bet-new-study">the Guardian</a>, include some of the young men telling him they can no longer watch a football match unless they have multiple bets.
They said their football conversations with mates are all about betting, rather than the game. Said McGee:

The study documented the unfolding stories of several young men whose everyday lives are punctuated by deepening social and financial precarity, high-interest payday loans and bank debt, mortgage defaults, family breakdown, and mental health struggles.
In particular, for young men who find themselves deprived of viable routes to employment opportunities, gambling promises an alternative route to wealth, social capital and masculine affirmation, yet most end up ensnared in a cycle of indebtedness.

A total of £14.4bn was lost by people betting in the UK from April 2017 to March 2018, according to figures produced by the Gambling Commission.

EPL Clubs Agree To Withdraw Gambling Sponsorship From The Front Of Matchday Shirts

The Premier League has charged Manchester City with breaching its rules on more than 100 occasions over several years.
<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/feb/06/manchester-city-charged-by-premier-league-over-alleged-financial-rule-breaches">The Guardian</a> reported that if the charges are proven, it would be the greatest offence committed by a club in the history of the competition.
The independent commission which will consider the charges could recommend that City be expelled from the competition, suspended, or docked points if it finds the club guilty.
Manchester City have been accused of failing to give “a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”, and of failing to “include full details” of player and manager remuneration.
The six-time Premier League champions are also charged with failing to comply with rules regarding financial fair play (FFP) and failing to cooperate in a Premier League investigation that has concluded after more than four years.
The financial charges brought against Manchester City cover the period 2009-2018.
The charges requiring a club to “cooperate with, and assist, the Premier League in its investigations” extend from 2018 to this season.
The charges will be heard by an independent commission, to be appointed by the chair of the Premier League judicial panel, Murray Rosen KC.
In February 2020, UEFA banned Manchester City from the Champions League, after the club was found to have broken the financial rules of the competition and misled the European governing body.
However, the ban was overturned on appeal by the court of arbitration for sport.
Manchester City have always denied wrongdoing. A club statement on Monday said:

Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.

The Premier League said proceedings before the commission would, in accordance with its rules, be confidential and heard in private.

Manchester City Charged By Premier League Over Alleged Breaches Of Financial Rules

The English Premier League (EPL) has recognised former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu’s contribution to the English top flight.
Ndlovu, who is the current Mamelodi Sundowns team manager, became the first African to feature and score in the rebranded First Division when he played at Coventry City in 1992.
Ndlovu netted for Coventry City, on September 2, 1992, when his side won 2-1 against Sheffield.
As part of the EPL’s celebration for Black History Month, Ndlovu has been honoured for this achievement. <a href="https://twitter.com/premierleague/status/1581208267384147968?s=20&amp;t=5qjePpWheNHGSrBDMxd5DQ">The EPL said:</a>

All English and Scottish football has been postponed this weekend following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday. In a statement, the Premier League said:

To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.

We have added EPL football results, fixtures and league table

Aston Villa and Warriors midfielder Marvelous Nakamba will not travel to Zimbabwe for the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia next month.
This comes after all English Premier League (EPL) clubs unanimously decided not to release players for the upcoming September international window in places on the UK’s red-list next month.
The Warriors will face South Africa on the 3rd of September before travelling to Ethiopia for their second Group G match four days later and now they will play the two fixtures without their most high profile player.
Zimbabwe is a red-listed country and anyone travelling from there will have to quarantine for ten days. A statement released by EPL on Tuesday read in part:
<blockquote>
Premier League clubs have today reluctantly but unanimously decided not to release players for international matches played in red-list countries next month.
The clubs’ decision, which is strongly supported by the Premier League, will apply to nearly 60 players from 19 Premier League clubs who are due to travel to 26 red-list countries in the September international window.
This follows FIFA’s current position not to extend its temporary release exception for players required to quarantine on their return from international duty.
Extensive discussions have taken place with both The FA and the Government to find a solution, but due to ongoing public health concerns relating to incoming travellers from red-list countries, no exemption has been granted.
If required to quarantine on return from red list countries, not only would players’ welfare and fitness be significantly impacted, but they would also be unavailable to prepare for and play in two Premier League match rounds, a UEFA club competition matchday and the third round of the EFL Cup.
This period takes into consideration 10 days of hotel quarantine on return to England but does not include any additional time that would be required for players to regain match fitness.

Nakamba Barred From Travelling To Zimbabwe For World Cup Qualifiers

The Premier League has postponed a match between Manchester United and Liverpool which was set for Old Trafford on Saturday evening after fans breached security at the Stadium and invaded the pitch and dressing rooms.
Hundreds of fans got into the stadium ahead of the behind-closed-doors contest, which was originally scheduled for a 4.30 pm BST kick-off before being delayed and then called off completely.
Manchester United fans were protesting against the owners, the Glazers over their club’s role as one of the founder members of the proposed breakaway European Super League.
In a statement, the Premier League said the decision to postpone the match was reached together with the police, both clubs and local authorities.
The Premier League said a rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated in due course. The statement says:
<blockquote>Following the security breach at Old Trafford, the Manchester United vs. Liverpool game has been postponed. This is a collective decision from the police, both clubs, the Premier League and local authorities.
The security and safety of everyone at Old Trafford remain of paramount importance. We understand and respect the strength of feeling but condemn all acts of violence, criminal damage and trespass, especially given the associated COVID-19 breaches.
Fans have many channels by which to make their views known, but the actions of a minority seen today have no justification.
We sympathise with the police and stewards who had to deal with a dangerous situation that should have no place in football. The rearrangement of the fixture will be communicated in due course.</blockquote>

Manchester United vs Liverpool Postponed After Fan Protests At Old Trafford

Twelve major European football clubs, six of them from England, on Sunday announced new plans for a European super league (ESL) which will most likely undermine the UEFA Champions League.
Eight more clubs, presumably from Germany and France, are expected to join the breakaway European league before its season commences.
A statement just after 11 pm UK time from the newly formed European Super League confirmed plans to begin the new competition in August.
The ESL said the new format will involve midweek fixtures, with all participating clubs continuing to compete in their respective national leagues. It said:
<blockquote>An August start with clubs participating in two groups of 10, playing home and away fixtures, with the top three in each group automatically qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Teams finishing fourth and fifth will then compete in a two-legged play-off for the remaining quarter-final positions.
A two-leg knockout format will be used to reach the final at the end of May, which will be staged as a single fixture at a neutral venue.
As soon as practicable after the start of the men’s competition, a corresponding women’s league will also be launched, helping to advance and develop the women’s game.</blockquote>
AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Atlético de Madrid, Chelsea FC, FC Barcelona, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid CF and Tottenham Hotspur are the founding clubs.
Meanwhile, German and French clubs are not part of the ESL, with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich insisting that they have not signed up.
The plans have already been condemned by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the French president, Emmanuel Macron.
UEFA, in a statement earlier on Sunday, which was also signed by the Premier League, the Football Association and their counterparts in Spain and Italy, reiterated the threat to ban any players involved from “any competition at domestic, European or world level”.

New Format For European Super League Revealed

The English Premier League has strongly condemned the proposal by Europe’s biggest clubs to form a European Super League that will threaten not only the future of the UEFA Champions League but could have a seismic impact on the entire structure of the club game.
Six English clubs – Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham – will join the breakaway competition alongside three teams from each of Italy and Spain.
In a statement early on Sunday, the Premier League urged clubs “to walk away immediately before irreparable damage is done”. Below is the statement in full:
<blockquote>The Premier League condemns any proposal that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit which are at the heart of the domestic and European football pyramid.
Fans of any club in England and across Europe can currently dream that their team may climb to the top and play against the best. We believe that the concept of a European Super League would destroy this dream.
The Premier League is proud to run a competitive and compelling football competition that has made it the most widely watched league in the world. Our success has enabled us to make an unrivalled financial contribution to the domestic football pyramid.

Premier League condemns European Super League Proposal

Newly-crowned English Premier League champions, Liverpool, will be presented with the Premier League Trophy after their match against Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday 22 July.
This historic occasion will be marked with a unique ceremony designed to acknowledge the club’s supporters, who are absent from the stadium due to matches being played behind closed doors.
The match, as well as the Trophy presentation, will be shown free-to-air by Sky on its Pick channel in the United Kingdom.
This will allow fans to watch Liverpool’s final home match of the season and see their captain Jordan Henderson become the first Liverpool player to lift the Premier League Trophy.
The club’s players and staff will be presented with their medals and the Premier League Trophy, as winners of the 2019/20 season, on a special podium built on the Kop, surrounded by fan banners in the heart of where Liverpool fans would usually sit.
Liverpool players, led by Henderson, have been involved in the planning of the ceremony.
Sir Kenny Dalglish, the manager of the Reds when they last won the title in 1990, will be a member of the Trophy presentation party. This will be Liverpool’s 19th top-flight title.

Liverpool To Lift Premier League Trophy On July 22

The English Premier League (EPL) has said it is working with clubs to ensure the 2019/20 season is completed. The season was prematurely cut as a measure to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The EPL has also released a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/28/dates-for-resumption-of-2019-20-epl-season-revealed/">provisional fixture</a> which shall see relegation-threatened Aston Villa hosting Sheffield United while title contenders and reigning champions, Manchester City host Arsenal on 17 June.

FULL TEXT: Premier League Statement - 29 May 2020

The English Premier League has announced that the 2019/20 season shall resume on the 17th of June with relegation-threatened Aston Villa at home to Sheffield United while title contenders and reigning champions, Manchester City host Arsenal.
The two matches are in the ‘games in hand’ that will take all the 20 clubs up to 29 matches and have huge effects at both ends of the table.
Another Premier League game may be played on Friday, June 19 but the full round of fixtures will start on Saturday, June 20 with matches staggered across the weekend.
The timetable was put to the clubs at their shareholders’ meeting which is taking place on Thursday to decide a raft of issues.
The scheduling of matches for ‘Project Restart’ is key with the Premier League hoping to complete the season by the weekend of August 1 and 2. The League was suspended following the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Playing the two outstanding games first will allow all the clubs to fall in line with the number of games played. Marvelous Nakamba’s team’ Villa, is desperate to get out of the bottom three while Sheffield United are vying for the UEFA Champions League.

Dates For Resumption Of 2019/20 EPL Season Revealed

English Premier League (EPL) clubs are set to decide on Wednesday on the proposal for a return to contact training as the league pushes to resume and complete the 2019/20 season.
The season was suspended following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. The United Kingdom government on Sunday allowed a return of “close contact” training, including tackling, to help players step up their match fitness ahead of a return to competitive action.
The government’s statement read in part:
<blockquote>This type of training would start with smaller ‘clusters’ of 2-3 athletes and eventually progress to larger groups of 4-12 athletes, and ultimately full team training.</blockquote>
The EPL was planning to resume the league on the 12th of June but players and coaches have objected to the proposal saying the end of June would be reasonable considering that a long period of time has elapsed since the players were last involved in action.
Meanwhile, clubs returned to training in small and socially distanced groups last week. Sadly, a total of eight coronavirus cases have so far been detected among players and staff from 1 744 tests in the Premier League.

EPL Clubs Set To Vote On A Return To Contact Training

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp says it would be unfair not to give his club the English Premier League title if the 2019/20 season is called off.
The Reds hold a 25-point lead over closest rivals Manchester City and require two wins to clinch their first league title in 30 years.
Speaking at the DFB Academy, the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup winner said:
<blockquote>There was talk that people wanted to declare the season null and void. So you thought: ‘Huh? We have played 76 per cent of the season and you just want to delete the thing?’
That would have been something that I personally would find unfair, to just say that it didn’t happen.
We are first in the home table, we are first in the away table. It is a season in which we should become champions.
Dealing with a crisis is the most important thing. But that doesn’t mean that certain things are of no importance at all just because they are less important.
I think there are worse things in life than not becoming champions. A lot of people around us have big problems. People die, it always happens, but at the moment because of a virus that we all didn’t know and for which nobody could be prepared.

English Premier League clubs on Monday agreed on the first step towards “Project Restart”, the resumption of the 2019/20 season which was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
All the clubs agreed on Step One which allows squads to train while maintaining social distancing.
In a statement posted on its official website, the Premier League said:

English Premier League Squads To Start Training Ahead Of 2019/20 Season Resumption

The United Kingdom government has approved the restart of the English Premier League 2019/20 season after it was suspended following the emergence of the coronavirus.
The ‘cautious’ Boris Johnson-led administration gave the EPL the go-ahead to resume behind closed doors as early as June 1.
This was outlined in a 60-page roadmap that was unveiled by the Government on Monday afternoon in which various protocols were outlined including the return of professional sport.
The document also indicated that the government will continue to monitor the situation to determine if it was safe to reopen businesses and other public places adding that opening of venues such as sports stadia “may only be fully possible significantly later depending on the reduction in numbers of infections”.
Meanwhile, Premier League’s clubs that had been planning for a return to action no earlier than the week beginning June 8, are meeting on Monday to continue their discussions around Project Restart.
Liverpool who were enjoying a comfortable 25-point lead ahead of reigning champions Manchester City need six more points to secure the Premier League title, which translates into two wins while a win could potentially do it should City lose.

English Premier League officials are set to begin regular meetings with the government and senior medical directors about restarting top-flight football as soon as possible.
According to the BBC, the move is seen as a “quickening the pace” and intend to resume the league season where it left off at some stage during the coming weeks.
A return to action will, however, depend on an increase in testing for those involved in the restart and strict social distancing measures between players.
A Premier League plan revealed to its shareholders sets June 8 as the ideal return date, with the campaign completed on July 27, allowing until late August to start the new season.
The matches will be played behind closed doors.

The English Premier League this Friday released a statement with regards the 2019/20 season that was prematurely halted due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

<blockquote>At a meeting of Premier League Shareholders today, clubs discussed in detail how to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
First and foremost, it was reaffirmed that the overriding priority is to aid the health and wellbeing of the nation and our communities, including players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters.
Season restart
It was acknowledged that the Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.
The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we work together through this very challenging time.
The Premier League is working closely with the whole of professional football in this country, as well as with the Government, public agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the game achieves a collaborative solution.
With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.
However, any return to play will only be with the full support of Government and when medical guidance allows.
The sporting and financial implications for Premier League clubs as well as for The FA, EFL and National League were considered at today’s meeting.
Consulting players
In the face of substantial and continuing losses for the 2019/20 season since the suspension of matches began, and to protect employment throughout the professional game, Premier League clubs unanimously agreed to consult their players regarding a combination of conditional reductions and deferrals amounting to 30 per cent of total annual remuneration.
This guidance will be kept under constant review as circumstances change.
The League will be in regular contact with the PFA and the union will join a meeting which will be held tomorrow between the League, players and club representatives.
Solidarity with clubs below PL
Discussions also took place regarding financial relief for clubs in the short term and while there is no single solution, measures are to be put in place to immediately deal with the impact of falling cash flow.
Critically, the League unanimously voted to advance funds of £125 million to the EFL and National League as it is aware of the severe difficulties clubs throughout the football pyramid are suffering at this time.
Supporting NHS
Further to that assistance, the League remains committed to supporting the National Health Service, its staff and helping people in communities, not least those who are most vulnerable.
The League, clubs, players and managers express huge appreciation for the heroic efforts of NHS staff and all other key workers who are carrying out critical jobs in such difficult circumstances.
In consultation with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Premier League is immediately committing £20 million to support the NHS, communities, families and vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This includes a direct financial contribution to the NHS and funds to enable clubs to refocus their efforts and develop significant outreach programmes to help communities, including those most in need.
This funding will enable both immediate and longer-term support during the crisis.
Supporting clubs’ community work
In response to COVID-19,  Premier League clubs have been supporting tens of thousands of people in their communities each and every day through targeted activity including donations to foodbanks, telephone calls to the elderly, food parcels delivered to the vulnerable and a wide range of free resources to support wellbeing and education.
Many Premier League clubs are also working closely with their local NHS Trusts to provide valuable support through the provision of resources, volunteers and facilities.
Now, more than ever, clubs are playing a vital role to support the wellbeing of those in their communities and alleviate pressure on critical health services.
Promoting public health messages
Working closely with the Department of Health and Social Care, Public Health England and the NHS, the wide reach and appeal of the Premier League and our clubs will continue to be used to promote important public health messaging throughout this crisis.

English Premiership Clubs are reportedly pushing for the completion of the 2019/20 season this year despite the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
They are however asking for the number of substitutes to be increased to five from three to avoid injuries and fatigue of players since games will be played within a very short space of time.
For an unknown reason, clubs are also allegedly pushing for the suspension of the Video Assistance Referring (VAR) for the rest of the season although they are willing to have it kept in the long run.
EPL, like other sports leagues around the world, suspended the 2019/20 season following the outbreak of the coronavirus and clubs are pushing to have it completed around July this year.
There are reports saying that the remaining matches, nine at most, will be played behind closed doors to avoid the spread of the virus.

Some Of The Demands By EPL Clubs Amidst Calls To Complete The Season This Year

Italian football fans ended up watching the Highlanders vs FC Platinum match on the Castle Lager page because all other football matches were postponed.
Castle Lager Premiership Champions, FC Platinum on Saturday locked horns with Chibuku Super Cup winners, Highlanders in the Castle Challenge Cup final at Barbourfields.
Highlanders were outclassed and while they fought hard in the first half, they were completely off in the second period.
FC Platinum eventually won 2-0 as former Highlanders coach, Pieter Hendrik De Jongh who is now with the Zvishavane-based club coming to Emagumeni to face Bosso for the first time.
The match that was streamed live on social media was watched by fans as far as Italy with some describing FC Platinum’s Elias Maguri as the new Kak’a.

English Premier League champions-elect Liverpool continued their relentless march towards a first title in 30 years after despatching Southampton 4-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The win, which took the Reds 22 points clear of Manchester City who are second (albeit with a game in hand), is a 16th consecutive Premier League triumph this season.
Liverpool have now won 24 games out of 25 they have played this term, scoring in every one of them and beating all clubs in the process.
Jurgen Klopp’s world champions scored all the goals in the second half through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (47′), Jordan Henderson (60′), Mohamed Salah (72′, 90′).
Liverpool are now on 70 points from 25 games while City are on 51 points from 24 games.
