First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and her son Emmerson Junior will most likely feature in Al Jazeera’s “Gold Mafia” documentary, with three out of four episodes yet to be premiered, it has emerged.
This was revealed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Ambassador At Large Uebert Angel in a statement released on Saturday as his office tried to clear his name after undercover Al Jazeera journalists showed him offering to launder US$1.2 billion boasting that he was the second-most-powerful person in Zimbabwe.
In the first episode of the documentary, titled “The Laundry Service”, Angel is seen calling Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president Henrietta Rushwaya in the presence of the undercover reporters.
Angel made the calls in an attempt to convince the “investors” that he was able to facilitate the laundering of more than a billion US dollars in cash.
However, in a statement on Saturday, Angel’s office said during his interactions with the Al Jazeera crew, he suspected that they were not genuine and decided to use “decoys”.
Angel inadvertently revealed that the President’s wife and son will feature in the documentary when he said “these decoys… posed as Henrietta Rushwaya, the First Lady and the First Son”.
A statement released on his behalf by the Chief Investment Officer in the Office of Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large (OPEAAL), Sobona Mtisi, read in part:

After these suspicions, the team switched to ‘red’ protocol, with the decision to proceed with extreme caution, be in the middle, and play along, and never to facilitate a meeting between the “investors” and the His Excellency, the President.
With this knowledge, and at the insistence of the “investors” Ambassador Angel made several calls to decoys working with our office.
It is these decoys who posed as Henrietta Rushwaya, the First Lady, and the First Son.
The calls to the decoys were made in light of the leading questions asked by the “investors”.
They kept pushing to have the First Family in the discussion, especially the First Lady and the President.
They even threw in figures to help in the charity organisation which Ambassador Angel refused and even told them he had his own money; this part was omitted from the documentary.
It’s just amazing how people are made to believe what has been propagated as gospel.
The best these people got are the audios from the decoys, they never got the chance to film the President or the First Lady because the Ambassador was already informed by the security agents prior to getting in the meeting that they didn’t have the money they claimed to have.
However, as aforementioned, we battled with what if the intelligence is wrong and the country loses the much-needed investment.
The decoys helped in asserting that if they were real investors, we would be able to get it from their reactions after the call.
There is no way Ambassador Angel could get hold of the First Lady and First Son without pre-arrangements and standard security clearance procedures in place in meeting with the First Family.
Moreover, the Ambassador has never met the First Lady. They never met and never had any direct dealings.
It would have been prudent for these “investors” to verify if the calls were indeed made to the people that Ambassador claimed to be calling.

Uebert Angel Reveals First Family Features In Al Jazeera documentary

ZANU PF Director of Information, Tafadzwa Mugwadi has described the United States of America as a “demented superpower” after it recently imposed sanctions on four Zimbabwean nationals.
On Monday, the US Treasury Department added President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Emmerson Mnangagwa Jnr, Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s wife Sandra Mpunga, Nqobile Magwizi, and Obey Chimuka to the sanctions list.
Two companies controlled by Chimuka, Fossil Agro and Fossil Contracting, were also sanctioned by the U.S. for their alleged involvement with Sakunda, which is owned by Tagwirei.
Mpunga is the executive director of Sakunda and Magwizi is the chief marketing officer, according to a statement by the U.S. Treasury.
Posting on Twitter in response to the development, Mugwadi said the United States of America has gone rogue. He wrote:

What the @ US Dept of State has done is an act of cowardice &amp; undoubtedly barbaric conduct that falls below the diplomatic bar.
It clearly reflects a demented superpower that has gone rogue, now aiming at non-assuming global citizens like Emmerson Jnr, a Chimuka &amp; an unknown housewife.
Anyway, needless to remind them that President Mnangagwa has reminded us that with or without sanctions, nyika inovaka navene vayo (a country is built by its owners).

The designation of the four Zimbabweans and two Zimbabwean companies was announced one day before U.S. President Joe Biden hosted nearly 50 Heads of State from the African continent for the US-Africa Leaders summit.

ZANU PF Official Says United States A "Demented Superpower" After Mnangagwa's Son Is Sanctioned

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, said he was not surprised by the United States government’s move to add four Zimbabwean nationals and two Zimbabwean companies to the sanctions list.
The U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said it added four Zimbabweans to the sanctions list, among them Mnangagwa’s son Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr. and two companies, Fossil Agro and Fossil Contracting.
The U.S. said the two companies were involved in opaque, multimillion-dollar deals with Zimbabwe’s government.
Charamba, who is Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications), said he was not surprised by the latest U.S. designations, saying the move is aimed at crippling Zimbabwe’s economy. He said:

The intention was never to attack individuals, who do not matter anyway in terms of interstate relations.
The intention has always been to cripple the Zimbabwean economy and it’s not fortuitous that they have picked on suppliers of key inputs to a critical sector of our economy, namely agriculture. 
They did it before and I can assure you they will do it in future.

Charamba said the U.S. is pushing for a “compliant” Zimbabwe, while Zimbabwe insists on “an independent national policy which is not influenced by foreigners.”

Charamba Reacts After US Adds President Mnangagwa's Son To Sanctions List

The United States of America Monday announced it was adding four Zimbabwean people, including the son of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, to the sanctions list.
The U.S. Treasury Department also announced it was hitting two companies with penalties for their roles in undermining democracy and facilitating high-level corruption. 
Those sanctioned include <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa_Junior">Emmerson Mnangagwa, Jr</a>., who is said to have been in charge of his father’s business interests related to a prominent businessman <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Tagwirei">Kudakwashe Tagwirei</a> and his <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sakunda_Holdings">Sakunda Holdings</a> company. 
The sanctions freeze any assets the targets may have in U.S. jurisdictions and bar Americans from doing business with them. In a statement seen by Pindua News, the Treasury said:

We urge the Zimbabwean government to take meaningful steps towards creating a peaceful, prosperous, and politically vibrant Zimbabwe, and to address the root causes of many of Zimbabwe’s ills: corrupt elites and their abuse of the country’s institutions for their personal benefit.
The goal of sanctions is behaviour change. 
Today’s actions demonstrate our support for a transparent and prosperous Zimbabwe.

In addition to Mnangagwa, Monday’s sanctions target Tagwirei’s wife, Sandra Mpunga; Nqobile Magwizi, and Obey Chimuka, along with the two companies, Fossil Agro and Fossil Contracting. 
All of them are connected to Tagwirei and Sakunda Holdings. 
The Treasury Department added that the sanctions demonstrate the United States’ continued commitment to act in support of a transparent and prosperous Zimbabwe.  
It also said that U.S. sanctions do not target the Zimbabwean people, the country of Zimbabwe, or Zimbabwe’s banking sector.

USA Adds President Mnangagwa's Son On Sanctions List

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Emmerson Tanaka Mnangagwa, reportedly lost US$1 000 to a bogus wedding garments supplier whom he had contracted to supply suits ahead of his wedding on 25 August 2019.
The accused, Samson Mavhunga (31) of Hillside, Harare, promised to deliver five men’s suits from Italy two weeks before the wedding.
Mavhunga reportedly charged US$3 500 and Mnangagwa paid US$1 500 deposit, but nothing was delivered.
According to a report by The Herald, Mavhunga appeared before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga on 22 April this year and was charged with fraud and was remanded out of custody to May 7 on $1 000 bail.
Meanwhile, a report by NewsDay says Mavhunga appeared before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti yesterday (16 September) and was remanded to September 22 for trial.

Mnangagwa's Son Fleeced Of US$1 000

The leader of the opposition MDC, Nelson Chamisa has said that his party’s views on dialogue have not changed.
He assured supporters on Twitter saying that the MDC will never join the political parties dialogue (POLAD) initiated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Chamisa tweeted:
<blockquote>Zimbabwe is in a deep crisis. Only true &amp; holistic reform will bring about real change. Dialogue must be genuine. Will take no part in POLAD.Our views on the much-desired dialogue remain unchanged. We seek true change for the people of Zimbabwe. We will never betray your trust!</blockquote>
His remarks come when <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/12/17/former-sa-president-thabo-mbeki-meets-ed-chamisa-in-harare/">the arrival in the country of former South Africa president, Thabo Mbeki</a> was viewed as the beginning of the dialogue process amongst political parties and other stakeholders in the country.
Mbeki revives memories of the Government of National Unity which came to being a decade ago after he mediated between the ZANU PF and two MDC formations.
Chamisa spoke recently saying that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/12/17/full-thread-our-political-impasse-cannot-continue-chamisa-speaks-after-meeting-mbeki/">the impasse existing between the ruling ZANU PF and his party was no longer sustainable</a> adding that dialogue was essential for the transformation of the country.
The standoff dates back to 2018 when the MDC accused ZANU PF of rigging elections.
