Three men from Bulawayo stole 2,900 litres of diesel from Econet Wireless base stations in Rangemore suburb and along the Bulawayo/Nkayi Road, and set up a stall to sell the fuel near the crime scene.
The trio—Themba Moyo (55) from Njube suburb, Carlton Ndlovu (44), and Tshidzani Mpofu (33), both from Gwayi in Plumtree—also robbed two security guards of their electronic gadgets and cash.
On Monday, they were convicted by the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court on three counts of robbery and one count of unlawful dealing in petroleum products, with sentencing expected on Tuesday.
The total value of the stolen diesel, two cell phones, a laptop, and a pair of sneakers from the security guards amounts to US$7,240.
In delivering the judgment, Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga noted that Mpofu was the first to be arrested and subsequently implicated the other two accused, who were found with evidence linking them to the crimes. Said Malunga:

The court finds that it is not by coincidence that immediately after the Econet base stations were robbed, the three were found selling diesel the following morning. The court has found that there is credible evidence that the three offenders are guilty of the crimes.
</blockquote>
In mitigation the defence lawyer submitted that the three are first-time offenders, they are breadwinners and have minor children.
Prosecutor Owen Mugari, said that on May 27, the accused trio arrived at an Econet base station in Rangemore suburb in a silver-grey Honda Fit, driven by Mpofu.
Moyo and Ndlovu, armed with a spanner and a bolt cutter, restrained the on-duty security guard using cable ties and stole his Itel cell phone.
The duo force-marched the security guard approximately 30 to 40 meters away from the base station, ordering him to lie down on the ground.
The pair broke into the base station, removed a diesel tank drain plug with spanners, and drained 900 litres of fuel, which they transported to Emakhandeni suburb and gave to Itayi Yekeye, Dumisile Nkiwane and Perseverance Hove – to sell. 
On June 3, the trio targeted another Econet base station along the Bulawayo/Nkayi Road, armed with a spanner, hacksaw, and bolt cutter.
They employed the same method of incapacitating the on-duty security guard, searching him for a panic button before restraining his hands and feet with cable ties.
During this incident, they stole a Techno cell phone, US$150 in cash, a laptop, and a pair of sneakers, while draining 2,000 litres of diesel.
The stolen cell phone, laptop, and sneakers were found at Mpofu’s home, and police recovered 620 litres of diesel from the same fuel dealers involved in the earlier theft.

Thieves Drain 2,900 Litres Of Diesel From Econet Boosters

Following shareholder approval of the transfer of EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe Limited’s (EHZL) fintech businesses to Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited (EWZL), management has extended voluntary and mutual separation offers to staff in EcoCash Holdings Zimbabwe Limited.
The move follows a Scheme of Reconstruction which was first announced by EWZL and EHZL at the beginning of the year and obtained EcoCash Holdings shareholder approval at an EGM held on April 17, 2024.
Among the reasons cited for the Scheme of Reconstruction was the need for the consolidated business to streamline several duplicated roles and activities, to enhance synergies and preserve shareholder value.
This would necessitate staff rationalisation across the EHZL and EWZL businesses. A spokesman for the company said:

Management have started the process of operationalising the Scheme of Reconstruction. And while other consultations with various stakeholders progress, they have offered interested staff the opportunity to consider and exercise the option of voluntary separation.

Commenting on the development, award-winning investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono said the letter is a manifestation of the “gross abuse of authority”. He wrote on X:

This is gross misuse of authority which undermines fair competition and merit-based hiring practices.
Such corrupt actions erode public trust and correctly lead to accusations of corruption and nepotism.

Let us assume that Econet employs this chap after receiving this letter from the minister; How will the minister deal with a situation where there is a need for arbitration between Econet and another entity?

Mobile phone usage in Zimbabwe has significantly increased, with active subscriptions rising by 6% in the third quarter to reach a record 14.79 million, according to the  <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Postal_and_Telecommunications_Regulatory_Authority_of_Zimbabwe" title="Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe">Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe</a> (POTRAZ). This translates to a mobile penetration rate of 97.5%, up from 91.9% in the previous quarter.
– NetOne, the State-owned operator, has been the primary driver of growth in mobile phone subscriptions.
– Econet, the market leader, experienced a modest 2.2% increase in subscribers.
– Telecel saw a decline of 1.4%.
– Mobile voice traffic jumped by 30% to surpass 3.29 billion minutes, thanks to affordable on-net calls and operator promotions.
– Mobile internet and data subscriptions rose by 7.5% to reach 10.65 million, with a penetration rate of 70.1%.
– Mobile internet and data traffic increased by 6.2% to reach 44.67 petabytes.
– Mobile operator revenues rose by 95.3% to ZWL$850.8 billion, while operating costs nearly doubled, rising by 99.3%.

POTRAZ director general, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Machengete/">Gift Machengete</a>, highlighted the significant growth in operating costs, which increased by almost 100% during the period, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200021589/zim-mobile-phone-usage-climbs-up">NewsDay</a> reported. He also mentioned the increase in mobile voice traffic and the growth in internet and data subscriptions and traffic.

Zimbabwe Records Significant Mobile Phone Usage In 2023

Listed companies Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (Econet) and EcoCash Holdings (EcoCash) have received approval from the central bank to conduct rights offers in United States dollars. Rights offers are a corporate action where existing shareholders are given the opportunity to purchase additional shares at a discounted price. It allows companies to raise capital from their current investors, who have the right to buy new shares before they are offered to the public.
Through these rights offers, Econet and EcoCah aim to raise $30.3 million each from their existing shareholders. The companies were unable to obtain foreign currency through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s auction process to redeem their debentures (long-term loans), which matured in April 2023. As a result, they sought exchange control approvals to proceed with the rights offers.
In separate statements on Tuesday, the companies stated that the ultimate Zimdollar price for the shares would be determined when they receive foreign currency on the interbank market to redeem the debentures, following the country’s exchange control laws. Econet said:

Members are hereby advised that the company has now obtained exchange control approval for the rights offer to be made in United States dollars.
</blockquote>
The companies said the final price of the shares will be determined when the companies receive foreign currency on the interbank market to redeem the debentures. Shareholders registered as of September 1, 2023, will have the option to exercise their rights using the local currency. A deposit will be required for each share, with the remaining balance to be paid once foreign currency has been secured. The applicable exchange rate will be the prevailing interbank rate plus a 10% margin.
The rights offer is scheduled to open on September 11, 2023, and close on September 29, 2023, with the results expected to be announced on October 6, 2023. The debentures stem from a capital raise exercise in 2017, which aimed to secure foreign currency for external loan repayments.
This approval allows Econet and EcoCash to proceed with their rights offers in an effort to raise the necessary funds from existing shareholders. It provides them with an alternative means to obtain foreign currency, as they were unable to access it through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s auction process.

Econet And EcoCash Received Central Bank Approval For US Dollar Rights Offers

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, the country’s largest mobile network operator by subscriber base, has with effect from Tuesday, 20 June, hiked data bundles.
In a brief notice sent via SMS to its millions of subscribers, Econet said:

We are reviewing our ZWL data and SMEs bundle prices effective Tuesday, 20 June 2023.
</blockquote>
An 8 gig private WIFI data bundle now costs ZWL$111 342 up from ZWL$37 114 while a 15 gig bundle is now available for ZWL$201 033 up from ZWL$67 011.
Econent said a 25 gig will cost ZWL$294 675 from ZWL$98 225 and 50 gig users will have to pay ZWL$506 106 up from ZWL$168 702.
The latest tariff hike by Econet comes as the value of the Zimbabwe dollar has continued to plummet against other currencies at both official and parallel markets.
Some service providers are now devising ways to reject the Zimbabwe dollar such as engaging in forward rating and claiming that their point-of-sale machines are down, leaving customers with no option except to make payments in foreign currency.

Econet In Massive Data Bundle Tariff Hike

Econet announced the launch of its 5G network in Zimbabwe in February 2022. The company rolled out 5G with the help of Ericsson. Econet is the only mobile operator in Zimbabwe currently that has 5G. 
In general, 5G offers internet speeds that are up to 10 times that of 4G. 
With the release of more and more 5G capable phones globally, Zimbabweans may not be clear if these phones are relevant in Zimbabwe.

According to the telecoms industry regulator, POTRAZ,  Econet has a total of 22 5G base stations currently (<a href="https://www.techzim.co.zw/2023/04/potraz-q4-2022-report-out-internet-penetration-now-65-3-theres-more/">based on December 2022 data</a>).  In March this year, Econet promised to deploy more 5G sites around the country but did not commit to any numbers.
<h2>Does it make sense to buy a 5G phone in Zimbabwe?</h2>
As you can see above, the total number of 5G base stations in the whole country is just 22. This is a very small number, especially considering that 5G has a limited range compared to 4G and 3G. 
To put it into perspective, Econet has over 900 4G base stations in Zimbabwe. Based on these numbers, in a practical sense, we can’t really say there is 5G in Zimbabwe.
In the rare case that you live or work in one of the 22 locations listed above that have 5G, it will be worth it for you, yes. Otherwise, there’s no point.
<h2>Does NetOne have 5G?</h2>
As of the writing of this article, NetOne does not have any commercial 5G sites in Zimbabwe.
What about Telecel? We cannot even talk of 5G when it comes to Telecel. The company is struggling to deploy a 4G network, with only 17 of them so far according to the industry regulators report.
<h2>Which phones available in Zimbabwe have 5G?</h2>
This is a hard question to answer because most of the phones in Zimbabwe do not come into the country through the manufacturer’s official channels. 
People buy mobile phones that were made for other markets like US, UK, South Africa, and Australia (basically where Zimbabweans in the diaspora are found). They also buy phones meant for Asia that are imported via market the Dubai gray market channels. 
This means that 5G phones available in these countries can also generally be available on the local market. But again, there’s no point in buying a 5G mobile phone right now. At least it being 5G must not be the reason for buying it.

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is set increases voice, Data, and SMS tariffs and bundle prices with effect from 20 April 2023.
Econet, which is by far the country’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscriber base, has notified its customers about the impending tariff adjustment.
A notice published on the company’s social media pages this Wednesday reads:

Econet Announces Planned Tariffs Hike

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe increased its subscriber market to 69.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) Sector Performance Report for the 4th Quarter of 2022, which was released last week, shows that Econet grew its customer base by 2.9 percent to 69.9 percent.
Econet’s subscriber base grew by 234 485 new subscribers to 9 988 105, up from 9 753 620 recorded in the third quarter of 2022.
NetOne and Telecel experienced a 2.4 percent and 0.5 percent fall in active customers, to end the quarter at 27.4 percent and 2.7 percent subscriber market share respectively.
NetOne’s subscriber base fell to 3 922 734 from 4 339 133, while Telecel lost 79 538 subscribers to close the year at 389 951. Part of the report reads:
Telecel and NetOne’s active subscriptions declined by 16.9 percent and 9.6 percent, respectively, which outweighed subscriber growth recorded by Econet and resulted in a total mobile subscriptions decline by a margin of 1.8 percent.
All three mobile operators experienced subscriber fluctuations during the course of 2022.
However, only Econet surpassed its December 2021 active subscriber base, according to the POTRAZ report.
Econet also continued to dominate the market share for internet and data traffic. Said POTRAZ:

Econet Increases Subscriber Market Share To 69.9 Percent

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has distanced itself from a message circulating on WhatsApp offering Independence Day Econet 10GB free data.
In a statement released this Monday, Econet said the “promotion” did not originate from them but was the work of scammers. It said:

Econet Partners Ericsson to Modernise Network Infrastructure Across Zimbabwe

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (EWZ) says recurrent power cuts have negatively affected the quality of services that the company offers.
The mobile network operator (MNO) says it will increase investment in alternative energy, such as solar batteries and diesel-powered generators though this requires significant amounts of foreign currency.
In a statement accompanying the firm’s trading update for the third quarter to November 2022, EWZ company secretary, Charles Banda said:

Due to the unreliable national power grid, the business continues to invest in alternative power solutions in a bid to ensure network availability.
As green energy solutions such as solar and battery storage require significant foreign currency investment, the pace of investment has remained below desired levels, thereby impacting service quality.
The business has also had to continue investing in diesel engine generators in the face of sharp declines in available grid power.

Most base stations (boosters) run on electricity but of late, MNOs have been forced to rely on diesel generators due to load-shedding and this has increased the cost of doing business.

Load Shedding Affecting Network Availability - Econet

Two Harare men were on Wednesday sentenced to 10 years in jail for stealing Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) copper cables.
They were part of a four-member gang which included a 16-year-old, The Standard reported.
There was a separation of trial after Richard Dzinzi and Reward Sibanda pleaded guilty to the charge leading to their conviction and sentence. Reads the state outline:

The following accused persons were arrested for possession of 25 cut pieces of 3 core armoured cable in Westgate area; Sibanda (53) of 93 Engineering Highfields, Richard Dzinzi (35) of Turnleaf Farm Westgate, Amos Dzinzi (16) of Turnleaf Farm and Tafadzwa Phiri (27) of 497 Nehanda Ext RRB 5409688 Marlborough.

Phiri and Amos Dzinzi pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody until Tuesday for routine remand. 
The accused persons had no legal representation.

Copper Cable Thieves Sentenced To 10 Years In Jail

Zimbabwe’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by Subscriber Base, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, has increased tariffs and bundle prices with effect from 1 January 2023.
In a public notice, Econet said the adjustment is to accommodate the 0.5 percent value-added tax (VAT) increase that came into effect on 1 January. Econet said:

Please take note that our tariffs &amp; bundle prices have been adjusted in line with VAT changes gazetted in the Finance Act (No.2), 2022 effective 1 Jan 2023.

In his 2023 national budget statement, Finance and Economic Development Minister, Mthuli Ncube increased VAT from 14.5 percent to 15 percent.
Ncube said the country’s VAT rates of 15 percent are comparatively lower than the SADC regional standard VAT rate, which averages 16 percent.

Econet Increases Tariffs And Bundle Prices

South African National Defence Force members will be deployed at some Eskom power stations following several incidents of theft and sabotage at various power stations.
The presidency made this request to the defence ministry, <a href="https://www.enca.com/news/sandf-be-deployed-some-eskom-power-stations">eNCA News</a> reported citing Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya.
The country has now been plunged into stage six power cuts.
Copper theft is not a phenomenon peculiar to South Africa as state companies and market players in Zimbabwe say the problem has surged in recent years.
It affects the electricity, telecommunications and transport sectors, and each year Zimbabwe’s parastatals spend millions of dollars replacing stolen cables and restoring vandalised infrastructure due to cable theft.

South Africa: Soldiers To Be Deployed At Some Eskom Power Stations

Econet Wireless, which is the country’s leading telecommunications company, says it will review voice, data and SMS prices in both Zimbabwe dollars and US dollars with effect from 16 November 2022.
In a notice to its customers issued this Monday, 14 November, Econet said:

Responding to social a media user who had asked why the telecoms company was increasing prices in USD considering that the greenback is a stable currency, Econet said:

Take note that the tariff adjustment is necessitated by the increased operational costs as we want to continue providing exceptional services.

On 1 November 2022, Econet increased its headline tariffs but did not adjust the cost of its promotional bundles.
Since the start of this month, Econet customers have been paying $41.77 per minute, to make a voice call, up from $25.95.
Data charges also went up to $6.6 per MB, up from $4.1 per MB, while sending an SMS was now costing $8.59 per message, up from $5.33.

Econet Wireless To Raise Tariffs Effective 16 November 2022

Econet Wireless, which is the country’s leading telecommunications company increased its headline tariffs effective from 1 November 2022.
The company, however, said the cost of its promotional bundles remains unchanged for now.
Econet customers will now pay $41.77 per minute, to make a voice call, up from $25.95.
Data charges have gone up to $6.6 per MB, up from $4.1 per MB, while sending an SMS will not cost $8.59 per message, up from $5.33.
Econet spokesman, Fungai Mandiveyi, told NewsDay that the new price review will help it to invest in the network and improve the quality of service to its customers. Said Mandiveyi:

Our aim is obviously to offer our valued customers an unparalleled customer experience. To do so, the right balance between affordability and quality of service is key.
The level of investment we make in upgrading our network infrastructure will improve network quality which will directly impact our customer experience.
But owing to limited access to foreign currency, this has not always been the case – which is why we welcome the US dollar tariff uplift.

Econet Raises Voice, SMS Tariffs, Cost Of Promotional Bundles Unchanged

Police in Kwekwe have arrested Romeo Rodgers Shava, who is alleged to be behind a series of copper cable theft cases in the town, following an ambush on one of his runners in Newton.
ZBC News reports that preliminary investigations reveal that an ambush laid by TelOne in the Newton area led to the arrest of 22-year-old Robert Mtetwa, who implicated Shava as his recruiter.
Mtetwa, who was apprehended while in the company of six others, five of whom are on the run, was handed over to Kwekwe CID for investigations.
He confessed to stealing TelOne copper cables along Burma Road in Kwekwe, two days before his arrest. He also showed detectives a place where they burnt the stolen cables.
Mtetwa also indicated that Shava would drop them at designated places to steal TelOne copper cables and they would call him to pick them up after cutting and pulling out the cables.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing TelOne copper cables and was remanded in custody for sentencing.
Meanwhile, Shava was dragged to Gokwe regional magistrate court facing two counts of stealing TelOne copper cables, but he denied the charges.
The magistrate remanded him in custody until the 29th of September. If found guilty of theft of TelOne cables or vandalism of TelOne infrastructure, he will be sentenced to a minimum jail term of 10 years.

Police Bust A Syndicate Targeting Copper Cables

A 31- year-old man has been slapped with a 10-year-jail term by a Harare court after being convicted of stealing ZESA copper cables.
Pikitai Makucha who was found in possession of ZESA cables was handed the minimum mandatory sentence for contravening the Electricity Act.
In passing the sentence, the magistrate noted that cases of vandalism of power infrastructure are on the increase, hence the need to send the right message to would-be offenders.

Man Jailed For 10 Years For Stealing ZESA Copper Cables

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (EWZ) says its customer subscriber base has hit 14.9 million, up from 13.2 million in the previous year.
This was revealed by EWZ chief executive officer, Douglas Mboweni as he presented the Integrated Annual Report for the year 2022 this week. He said:

We maintained customer market share leadership as we focused on addressing customers’ pain points.
During the period, we added 1.7 million new customers to stand at 14.9 million customers, up from 13.2 million in the previous year.

According to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) 4th Quarter Report of 2021, Econet’s market share of mobile subscribers closed at 64.9%.
The company’s market share of internet and data traffic was at 75.9%, up from 74.1% the previous quarter, the POTRAZ report showed.
During the period, Voice traffic increased by 17%, data consumption was up 48% whilst SMS traffic was down 19% compared to the same period last year.
Econet said Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) improved by 14% in 2022 from 64% to 73% due to improved data connectivity through the commissioning of 120 LTE core-located sites across the country.
Going forward, the company said its focus will be on deploying new network technology and enhancing the digital lives of Small to Medium Enterprises, the government and its business-to-consumer (B2C).

Econet Subscriber Base Hits 14.9 Million

Telecommunications giant Econet Wireless Saturday won the award for the best overall stand at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) for its ultra-modern exhibition stand, which drew huge crowds.
The top award, called the ‘President’s Award for the Premier Zimbabwean Exhibit at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair’, was won by Econet at this year’s Trade Fair which was attended by over 500 direct exhibitors from 14 countries. 
Econet CEO Dr Douglas Mboweni expressed his gratitude for the award, which was handed to the company’s representatives by President Mnangagwa, at the official opening ceremony of the ZITF Saturday. He said:

We are grateful that Econet has won this award in the face of serious and well respected competition among this year’s exhibitors, some of whom would have been worthy winners of the award.

Masiyiwa's ECONET Wins Best ZITF Stand Award

Two Chipinge-based Econet employees were on Thursday sentenced to a combined eleven years in prison for defrauding the mobile network operator (MNO) of $20 million.
Mukai Maringe Mapanzure (35) and Gavin Tinashe Guwu (30), appeared before Chipinge regional magistrate Christopher Maturure facing fraud charges as defined in Section 136 (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
The magistrate convicted the pair after a full trial.
Mapanzure was facing 108 counts of fraud, while Guwu was facing 98 counts.
Mapanzure was sentenced to seven years imprisonment but will serve an effective three-year jail term if certain conditions are met.
Two of the seven years were suspended on condition of good behaviour while the other two were suspended on condition that he restitutes Econet of nearly $15 million.
Guwu was sentenced to four years, two of which were suspended. In his ruling, Maturure said:

In assessing the sentence, the court has considered that part of the stolen money was recovered.
The court is sentencing them separately because the second accused (Guwu) initially committed the offence with the first accused (Mapanzure) but later received money to buy American dollars from the latter.

Prosecutor Walter Saunyama said sometime in 2019, Mapanzure and Guwu connived to defraud their employer of $20 384 475. He said:

They replaced an Econet mobile broadband merchant line 0784953460 with a physical sim card. This enabled them to carry out Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) transactions by inserting the sim card in a Mobicel cellphone with serial number 359725084071720 and transferring money into agent lines.

Two Employees Defraud Econet Of $20 Million

At least 5,000 Zimbabweans are now using the <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.zw.pindula.news">Pindula mobile app</a> to read the news on their phones even when they don’t have any data.

How to read internet news without mobile data in Zimbabwe

With load shedding becoming a norm again in Zimbabwe and its neighbour South Africa, many people are once again scrambling to find alternative sources of energy.
The power cuts not only keep people in the dark but also cause a serious problem for internet (fibre) providers and users.
Additionally, it also has an impact on our cellphone signal. But why is this the case?
When power outages happen, many fibre users lose their network. This is because when the electricity comes back, too many users try to reconnect at the same time.
This causes a significant delay because the systems that control the network become overwhelmed.
It might take two to three hours for everyone to be connected again.
Mobile network operators (MNOs) say load shedding gives them little time to charge the backup batteries at cell towers.
Zimbabweans who rely on the country’s three main MNOs, Econet, NetOne and Telecel as well as major internet providers, ZOL, TelOne and Powertel are in one way or affected by the disruptions caused by power outages.
The problem of load shedding is also affecting South Africa, Africa’s most industrialised economy. MTN’s SA’s executive of corporate affairs, Jacqui O’Sullivan, said:

These batteries generally have a capacity of six to 12 hours, depending on the site category, and require 12 to 18 hours to recharge.
The constant outages are starting to have a direct impact on the performance of the batteries.
If outages continue, the battery’s integrity is compromised because of insufficient time to recharge and due to the excessive drain on the battery.

A Vodacom spokesperson explained that once power is fully depleted, the tower stops working entirely.
Depending on the configuration of nearby towers, this may cause customers to experience an intermittent service or an area to black out entirely.
Cell C’s acting chief technical officer, Schalk Visser, said “during extended periods of power failures, backup systems are not sufficient, resulting in a negative impact on customers as well as an impact on revenues.”

Why aren’t we going there if we feel so angry with Stive Masiyiwa?
It because most of this anger is rooted in ignorance and raw jealousy of not wanting to see one of us make it, yet we are happy to applaud crooks.
Some his company Econet sold sim cards for US$100 per card, and they also blame Strive Masiyiwa and Econet for that, oblivious to the laws of Economics.
That shows a tragic misunderstanding of the economy and how it works, a further act proof that we are not as educated as we would want the world to believe.
It is the ZANUPF Government that screwed up the economy not Strive Masiyiwa or Econet.
Common sense should make you ask one question, when Econet cards were sold for US$100, how much were Telecel and Netone sim cards selling for?
There is something from the terribly wrong with our education system bakhiti, it has brought out half backed citizens!

Don’t you know that Potraz even came down hard on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/econetzimbabwe/?__cft__%5b0%5d=AZUp6W8m1JWsHkxv1zysvroCt5qDR8rbq5mgYWb0in_3gKuMtq082bYQxKJtth5MddH5NnZZWENcpyrbPnYk1_urV-hmAxQncprAaoCQJpaAfMcQyEsIk7eTzjJVBUfzz1-50nK78U4h-blnicP5VBpn&amp;__tn__=kK-R">Econet Zimbabwe</a> for lower prices, and on Netone too for similar competitive pricing?
We always bark at the wrong tree, and we always misdirect our unstrained anger at the wrong people!
Potraz is the telecommunications regulator that presides over the telecommunication industry, and not Strive Masiyiwa.
Your money from high fuel prices to steep data prices is taken by Government of Zimbabwe high taxes because your government has failed to create a healthy tax base because of incompetence, looting, corruption, plunder and many other such ills!
So, the Government of Zimbabwe charges huge taxes to the few big businesses that are in existence like Econet. A clever person will calculate how much Strive is getting out of every dollar you pay towards Econet data or phone calls, and how much money your government is taking!
Strive Masiyiwa’s prices are not high, you just don’t have the money to buy his products because you have no job to go to, or you are underpaid in your current job.
Econet Zimbabwe is a business, not a charity or church organization which dishes out money like confetti for free!
Deal with the reasons why you don’t have money, instead of expecting another man to take State created losses on your behalf!
You don’t have enough money because the economy is crap;
Is it Strive Masiyiwa who is refusing to implement political and economic reforms so that the economy can be kickstarted again?
Is it Strive who is looting your taxes and plundering your nation’s natural resources leaving you with nothing meaningful in your pocket?
Why were things ok between you and Econet during the years of 2009 and 2013?
It is called Economics folks, it has nothing to do with Strive Masiyiwa’s companies, they are also victims of an incompetent Government.
Is it fair for me to insult my new father in-law because I have failed to pay dowry for my wife simply because I don’t have a job or I earn peanuts like most Zimbabweans do?
This is where we should apply critical thinking!
Strive Masiyiwa’s Econet had to borrow huge loans internationally at higher repayment costs because Zimbabwe is a bad debtor, and politically a pariah state! This is why we keep telling you that Zimbabwe is badly run, the government has failed you not Strive Masiyiwa!

He has kept thousands of Zimbabweans in work and pays the most taxes in Zimbabwe which are looted by your government, yet you are ok with your MBINGAs who are looting those taxes and shamelessly parading sports cars?
You are paying for the behavior of an incompetent and corrupt government!
Leave Strive Masiyiwa alone, if you don’t like his service, go to Netone or Telecel, nobody has been forced to stay with Econet!
Strive pays millions of dollars in license fees to the Zimbabwean Government, yet Netone and Telecel don’t pay those fees.
He has expanded the Econet coverage across the country using borrowed money, loans that must be paid back in US Dollars, yet we pay for Econet’s service in a useless untradeable RTGS currency, and the Government can’t give him US Dollars in exchange in order to pay repay the loans which have made it possible for you to get better coverage
Is that not the reason why you stay with Econet, good coverage?
You stay with his company because it is the better out of the three, and he has been able to stay afloat in difficult times regardless of the terrible operating conditions!
Give the brother a break!
Some Zimbabweans have a warped mentality of wanting Econet to be ok, and Harare City Council to be ok yet they forget that these entities are operating in a terrible economy!
You can’t expect an island of excellence and normalcy in a sea of mediocrity, corruption, looting, plunder, incompetence, and the list goes on.

If you fix your politics, the economy will be fixed too.
But how will that happen when you openly declare with a smile that you won’t vote?
You are the problem not Strive Masiyiwa!!!
You must first understand who is responsible for mobile phone pricing in Zimbabwe, and you also need to understand how much of that money goes to Strive Masiyiwa’s Econet, the lastly how much is going to Government, and how it is being used!
Reserve your anger for the right people! Things are bad because Zimbabwe has a bad and incompetent Government in place!
Strive Masiyiwa didn’t do anything unique between 2009 and 2013, Tendai Biti simply fixed the economic fundamentals and things started working well that is why the price of the simcard went down from US$100 to US50 cents.

Hopewell Chin'ono Fights In Strive Masiyiwa's Corner

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says two suspected fraudsters have been arrested after duping several people of huge sums of money.
In a post on their Twitter page, police confirmed the arrest of Leeman Mushayi (26) and Prince Kadzungwe (41) on fraud allegations after the duo fraudulently applied for a sim card replacement using someone’s number and then committing various offences using the sim card. Police said:
<blockquote>The ZRP reiterates the arrest of Leeman Mushayi (26) and Prince Kadzungwe (41) in connection with cases of fraud that occurred in Harare on 06/04/21.
The suspects approached an Econet shop and fraudulently applied for a sim-card replacement on the complainant’s number before restoring her WhatsApp and advertising on groups purporting that she was dealing in foreign currency.
Several victims were enchanted with the good rates and were defrauded various amounts. Meanwhile, Police appeals to complainants duped in a similar manner by suspects to come forward and report.</blockquote>
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/15/serial-fraudster-aged-60-finally-arrested/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Last week police announced the arrest of a 60-year-old serial Harare fraudster, Dovan Tshikubadzo Ncube.</a>
Police said Ncube duped several victims after purporting to be able to facilitate their issuance of travel documents and national identity documents. He demanded various amounts of cash in United States Dollars for his non-existent services.

Police Arrest Econet Sim Card Replacement Fraudsters

Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s largest mobile network operator (MNO), has notified its subscribers of a price review on its voice, data and SMS promotional bundles with effect from 10 March 2021. The company said in a public notice:
