The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported on various crimes that have occurred across the country including murder, hit-and-run accidents, and drug possession.
In Dotito, Mashonaland Central Province, the police are investigating a murder case where the body of an unidentified 4-year-old girl was found dumped in a pit toilet on 8th December 2023. The police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and report it at the nearest police station.
In Gutu in Masvingo Province, a man named Collen Mawere (43) has been arrested for the murder of his brother-in-law, Afinos Museka (59). The incident occurred on 8th December 2023 at Chihambakwe Business Centre in Gutu. Mawere allegedly assaulted Museka during a heated argument about childcare, causing Museka to fall and subsequently die.
On 9th December 2023, in Chikombedzi in Masvingo Province, four individuals named Godfree Sibanda (28), Last Lisenga (62), Cosmas Mazvetera (45), and Cephas Siziba (22) were arrested in connection with a murder case. The victim, Peterson Chitsengo (40), was assaulted by the suspects during a drinking session on 7th December 2023 at Mateke Business Centre in Mwenezi. Chitsengo sustained head injuries and was admitted to the hospital, where his condition worsened and he passed away.
In Gwanda, Matabeleland South Province, the police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred on 9th December 2023 along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. A male adult was killed after being hit by an unknown motorist who did not stop after the accident. The police are urging anyone with information to report it at the nearest police station.
Furthermore, on the same day, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics in Harare arrested a man named Collen Nyakarenga (35) for the unlawful possession of 1,530 kilograms of dagga (marijuana) with a street value of ZW$50,000,000. The detectives pretended to be potential buyers and arranged a meeting with the suspect at Skyline tollgate along Masvingo Highway. Nyakarenga was apprehended after producing a sack of dagga from his vehicle. The detectives also discovered an additional 16 sacks of dagga at the suspect’s residence. The police are reminding the public about the dangers of drugs and urging people to say no to drugs.

Crime Watch: 4-year-old Girl Found Dumped In A Pit Toilet

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the arrest of a suspect linked to multiple cases of unlawful entry into premises and theft in the Mt Darwin District, Mashonaland Central. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect, Shaudhai Mangava, aged 30, was arrested in connection with 29 incidents that occurred between April and July 2023. Reads the statement:

<h3>ARREST OF A SUSPECT FOR SPATE OF UNLAWFUL ENTRY INTO PREMISES AND THEFT IN AND AROUND MT DARWIN DISTRICT, MASHONALAND CENTRAL</h3>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Shaudhai Mangava (30) in connection with twenty-nine (29) cases of unlawful entry into premises and theft which occurred in and around Mt Darwin District, Mashonaland Central between April and July 2023.
On 28th July 2023, Shaudhai Mangava was arrested by the police after he was apprehended by members of the public for breaking into Sohwe Primary School, Dotito administration block before stealing a first aid kit. The suspect’s accomplices identified as Matrice Kambanisa, Tendekai Chinomona and Gono managed to escape.
The suspect is linked to unlawful entry and theft cases which occurred at Mupedza Bottle Store, Rushinga on 28th April 2023, Chikonye Complex Rushinga on 28th April 2023, Nyabani Complex, Rushinga on 28th April 2023, Rushinga High School, Mt Darwin on 01st June 2023, Mutondwe High School, Mt Darwin on 06th June 2023, Chiunye Secondary School, Mt Darwin on 06th June 2023, Chimhanda High School, Rushinga on 06th June 2023, Sohwe Secondary School , Dotito on 17th June 2023, Rumwa Business Centre on 17th June 2023, Nyamarodza Primary School, Rushinga on 17th June 2023 , Chatumbama Busines Centre, Mt Darwin on 29th June 2023, Madziwa Secondary School, Madziwa on 02nd July 2023 and Chimanja Business Centre, Dotito on 23rd July 2023, where groceries, airtime vouchers, stationery cellphones and thirty-three (33) laptops were stolen.

Zimbabwe Police Arrest Suspect Tied To 29 Unlawful Entry And Theft Cases

The Government says it will soon introduce a new law to curb road traffic accidents that have killed hundreds of people so far this year.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona Mhona said that the Government will soon gazette a new Statutory Instrument on measures to curb the road carnage.
He said the law would ensure the right age requirement for bus drivers is met while fixing the maximum speed for buses, among other measures.
Mhona made the remarks in Dotito, Mashonaland Central province last week after visiting the scene of the CAG bus accident that claimed seven lives. He said:

The law will make sure buses that are brought into the country are fixed in a manner that makes sure they do not go above 100km/hr.
We have excitable drivers who are also inexperienced and underage. We will address all this in our new law that is coming soon.

Mhona also announced that the soon-to-be-introduced plastic discs will reduce a massive backlog of driver’s licenses. He said:

It will be acceptable in 27 countries in and out of SADC. There is a code that shows everything about the driver and on the 19th of this month, there will be an official launch of the license. It will also reduce the making of fake driver’s licenses.
We had a backlog of over 600 000 driver’s licenses and this will ensure we bring this to an end. We were having problems with licenses.

Govt Mulls New Law To Curb Road Accidents

Police have released the names of six people who were killed in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 10 June 2023 in Dotito at the 181-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the six victims have been identified by their next of kin. They are:

Shamain Nyoka of Gorejena Village, Dotito, Mt Darwin,
Stella Chikadaya of Kabhareta Village, Kandeya, Mt Darwin,

Kosva Nawero of Rujeko, Glendale,
Aurthur Nheta of Kararira Village, Chiswiti, Mukumbura

Asst Comm Nyathi urged rivers to be safety conscious and regularly check vehicle tyres to ensure that they meet road conditions.
He also implored bus operators to ensure that public service vehicles do not exceed their stipulated load capacity to safeguard lives on the roads.
The accident when a CAG bus travelling towards Harare burst a front tyre resulting in the bus veering off the road to the left before overturning and landing on its right side.

Police Release Names Of CAG Bus Accident Victims

A war veteran from Mashonaland Central Province who assaulted 116 pupils at a local school in October last year has been handed a 3-year jail term.
Solomon Samu will, however, serve an effective two years behind bars.
The war veteran who hails from Kanyemba Village under Chief Dotito in Mount Darwin, confronted the school’s deputy headmaster, Paddington Musake, in October last year and demanded the go-ahead to beat up pupils for ill-discipline.
The petrified headmaster could not prevail and Samu went ahead and beat up the learners, beginning with Grade Seven pupils who were about to write their final exams.
In passing the sentence, magistrate Tendai Muchena said:
<blockquote>The accused had the intention to harm all the children at the school and it is hard to imagine a country where an individual approaches a school from nowhere and demand the right to assault children.</blockquote>
The incident took place in October 2018 with school authorities immediately filing a formal complaint with police against the war veteran.
However, Samu was only arrested last week after the intervention of parents and the Social Welfare Department.
