A prominent Kwekwe-based medical doctor, Conway Zengeza, died on Sunday after he was reportedly stung by wasps at his home.
A colleague who preferred anonymity told <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/prominent-kwekwe-medical-doctor-dies-after-being-stung-by-wasps/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> that Zengeza was attacked by the insects while switching off lights in his garage. He said:
<blockquote>
We gathered that he wanted to switch off lights in his garage…he was then stung before he was rushed to Topomasi Private Hospital where he died.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Media Association (ZIMA) Midlands province president, Dr Ngwenya, also confirmed Zengeza’s death. He said:
<blockquote>
The 8th of January 2023 was not a good morning to us as doctors, as people, as the Midlands Community and beyond the Midlands Community.
It will forever be remembered for the pains we are suffering following the sudden passing on of one of the prominent and illustrious doctors.
We have really lost as a country, we have lost as a profession.
</blockquote>

Prominent Kwekwe Medical Doctor Died After He Was Stung By Wasps

A 26-year-old Zimbabwean medical doctor who recently finished college says the country has a bleak future as the current system does not care about the welfare of citizens. He said:
<blockquote>
… a system that does not care about the future of its young people, a system that does not care about the welfare of its own people.
They say they are looking after us, but how are they looking after us when don’t care about what I eat today… I’m already thinking of leaving Zimbabwe.

WATCH: Young Medical Doctor Says Zimbabwe's Future Is Bleak

Prominent Bulawayo medical doctor and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) lecturer Muriel Fallala has died.
Dr Fallala was killed in a car crash on Wednesday while driving to the city’s centre to attend to a critical patient.
She lost control of her Mitsubishi SUV near the Ascot racecourse while driving along the 12th Avenue extension.
The vehicle veered off the road, overturned and hit a precast wall at Old Miltonians Club. The incident occurred around 3 PM.
Dr Fallala was alone in the car when the accident occurred. Her body was taken to a local mortuary by police.
Acting Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Linos Phiri said Dr Fallala could have been speeding. He said:

We are told that she was rushing to the city centre to attend to a critical patient at Galen House.
She lost control of her vehicle and it rolled and hit a precast wall. She died on the spot.
</blockquote>
Mpilo acting chief executive officer Professor Solwayo Ngwenya expressed shock over Dr Fallala’s untimely death. He said:
<blockquote>
For me it’s a personal loss, I’ve known Dr Fallala for a long time. This afternoon at 1.30 PM we were together at the Royal Clinic.
She had come there to see a patient and we were talking medicine and all that little did I know that she was coming to say goodbye. I’m really devastated.
She is someone who had done so much for the community, for the people of Bulawayo and the people of Zimbabwe.
She worked tirelessly over the years to provide emergency services and deliver so many babies safely.
She was still young and strong, this is a sad day for me.

Dr Fallala was a Medical and Dental Council of Zimbabwe councillor and an administrator at Galen House.
She trained at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and Second Medical University in Moscow, Russia.
She was the past president of the College of Primary Care Physicians Zimbabwe and was a member of the World Organization of Family Doctors.

Prominent Doctor Dies In Car Crash While Rushing To Attend To A Critical Patient

A famous Bulawayo medical doctor, Dr Shamiso Matekere, has succumbed to COVID-19. She passed away on Thursday in Bulawayo.
Dr Matekere was the founder of the Elite Medical Clinic situated along corner 5th Avenue and Josiah Tongogara Street.
She was also the brains behind the medical mission which for years had been targeting underprivileged rural folk who could not afford specialists health care services.
Dr Matekere’s death was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Medical Association president Dr Francis Chiwora on Friday. He said:

She was a young and hard-working cadre who succumbed to COVID-19 and there is nothing as devastating as knowing one of you died as a result of trying to save lives.
She indeed paid the ultimate price of trying to save lives and her death is nothing but a painful reminder of the havoc that this global pandemic is causing.
We are pained when we lose our patients to COVID-19 and it’s even worse when it’s one of us as we continue trying our best to save our people from this global pandemic.
</blockquote>
Thousands of villagers from Lupane, Nkayi, and Gwanda benefited from medical outreach programmes which the late Dr Matekere facilitated with her pastor and leader of the Abundant Life Revival Mission International Church.
Abundant Life Revival Mission International Church founder and pastor, Prophet Itai Ukama said Dr Matekere’s death is a huge blow to Matabeleland as a region as she was also known for attending to patients free of charge even in Bulawayo. He said:
<blockquote>
I had the privilege to work with her, just like her name she never ceased to surprise all of us and honestly, her death is a surprise to many, we still cannot believe she is no more.
She was not just an ordinary human being because she served wholeheartedly without expecting riches in return like some of our health practitioners.
… We have lost a daughter, someone who loved the people of Matabeleland. Villagers especially from Ndamuleni Village will grieve bitterly when they hear that their doctor has died of COVID-19.
I am devastated and as a church, we know that without her our medical outreach programmes will never be the same.

Former Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa is alleged to be suffering from acute gastritis and oesophagitis. According to a letter purportedly written by Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon Mr J. Chimedza the condition was triggered by stress. The letter is dated 11th November 2017, the day on which Mnangagwa was fired from the government by President Robert Mugabe after he had been in government since Independence in 1980. The letter is still to be verified.
