The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe (MSD) and the Department of Civil Protection have forecasted that most of the country will have clear skies and experience cool mornings and warm afternoons. 
In its<a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G"> weather report</a> and forecast seen by Pindula News valid until Friday 05 May 2023, MSD said light winds may occur in some areas. However, Beitbridge, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, and Gwanda will be mild and windy with <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">scattered clouds</a> from the south.
MSD also cautioned that daytime temperatures can cause dehydration and evapotranspiration, while the temperature difference between day and night can impact vulnerable people’s health and trigger respiratory illnesses. Extreme temperatures can also harm crops and livestock.
The Met department advised farmers to water their crops to minimize the effects of transpiration. They suggested avoiding prolonged sun exposure, especially during the day’s peak. They also recommended ensuring vulnerable individuals have dressed appropriately. Additionally, they advised monitoring plants, animals, and pets for moisture and heat stress and watering them as needed to reduce these impacts.
The <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Met department</a> stated that on Thursday, May 4th, 2023, Beitbridge, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, and Gwanda districts will have scattered clouds from the south and will be mild and windy. The rest of the areas will be mostly sunny and warm during the day but cool in the morning and towards the evening.

MSD Forecasts Clear Skies, Cool Mornings, Warm Afternoons

The majority of people in Budiriro B, a wetland next to the Marimba River now in flood, have declined the Government’s offer to be evacuated to Budiriro 2 Vocational Community Training centre.
Some of the affected women who spoke to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/59-budiriro-flood-victims-evacuated-to-safe-place/">The Herald</a> said they feared their marriages will collapse if they go to Budiriro 2 and leave their husbands behind guarding their properties.
Susan Bure said in the flooding last season she accepted evacuation, but when she returned she found that her husband was living with another wife.
Budiriro B lies close to the Marimba River which is now in flood and this prompted the Department of Civil Protection to move in to evacuate the families.
The Department said it will not force the evacuation and so far, only 59 people from 43 families in Budiriro B have accepted the government’s offer to be evacuated.
Department of Civil Protection director Nathan Nkomo said the area is a condemned settlement and people should move to save their lives. He said:

We are not denying anyone some conjugal rights. If you feel you need them, you are free to go back and have conjugal rights with your partners. It’s unfortunate if we lose people’s lives during this rainy period.
If you are in trouble you will not even think of these useless things. We are not forcing you, you choose what to do in this situation.
</blockquote>
Other residents, however, thanked the Government for the timely intervention.
Authorities intend to permanently resettle the households in Budiriro B at a flat complex in Dzivarasekwa Extension.

"Our Marriages Will Collapse", Flood-hit Budiriro B Residents Refuse To Be Evacuated

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has directed Provincial Education Directors (PEDs) in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces to ensure that boarding students travel to schools after the 8th of January 2023 due to excessive rains forecasted by the Meteorological Services Department (MSD).
The MSD forecasted heavy rains along and north of the main watershed and the Eastern Highlands from Friday to Sunday.
In a memorandum addressed to PEDs in Masvingo and Manicaland provinces, Ministry of Education permanent secretary Tumisang Thabela said:

The Civil Protection Unit has alerted of the potential imminent excess rainfall and storms between 6 and 8 January 2023 particularly in Manicaland Province: Mutare rural, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Buhera, and in Masvingo Province: Chiredzi, Mwenezi, Gutu, Bikita, and Zaka Districts.
In view of this warning, boarding pupils are advised to travel after these dates. Be guided accordingly.

Ministry Of Education Advises Boarding Pupils To Travel After 8 January

The Department of Civil Protection has advised members of the public that heavy rains in excess of 65mm in 24 hours are expected in all Mashonaland, Manicaland, parts of the Midlands and Masvingo provinces.
According to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), the rains will pound the country from Friday 6 through Sunday, January 8, 2023.
In a statement released this Wednesday, 4 January 2023, the Department urged the public to be on the watch for possible flooding. The Department of Civil Protection said:

THE Department of Civil Protection is urging citizens to be on high alert for forecasted torrential rains from Friday 6 through Sunday, January 8, 2023, across the country.
We also call on all relevant stakeholders and traditional leaders to find ways to disseminate the information to their various communities in particular all Mashonaland, Manicaland, parts of the Midlands and Masvingo provinces where heavy rains in excess of 65mm are expected in 24 hours.
We urge the citizens to take heed of the Meteorological Services Department alerts as they continue monitoring the unfolding situation.
Citizens should be on the watch for possible flooding, avoid crossing flooded rivers/streams and stay indoors during the period as the heavy rains may reduce visibility for motorists.
District Civil Protection Committees countrywide have been mobilised.

Department Of Civil Protection Says It Has Mobilised In Preparation For Heavy Rainfall

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned that heavy rains will be recorded in some parts of the country to mark the 2020/21 rainy season.
MSD observed the rains will be coupled with violent thunderstorms and localised downpours especially in Matabeleland districts of Beitbridge, Gwanda, Mangwe Bulilima, Matobo, Tsholotsho, Bubi and Umguza among other areas.
Department of Civil Protection (DCP) director Nathan Nkomo told Chronicle plans were in places to attend to possible calamities caused by the rains.
He added that DCP was expecting fatalities and property destruction as a result of heavy rains as MSD has already projected. Nkomo said:
<blockquote>Remember the drought disaster was running together with the Covid-19 pandemic. The same structures which are dealing with the drought and the Covid-19 pandemic are the same structures which we have activated now, ready for the normal to above normal rainfalls as predicted by the MSD. This is the time to manage the two together.
A lot of people will be left homeless, a lot of people will be displaced but all those issues will be dealt with within the auspices of Covid-19. That is why when we did our planning recently, we wanted people to understand the context in which any calamities may befall our environment as a result of heavy rainfalls and the response to be done within Covid-19 context.</blockquote>
Heavy rains have in the past resulted in property destruction with DCP saying infrastructure damage caused by rains could run into billions of dollars while creating a backlog of rehabilitation projects.
In 2019, Cyclone Idai hit Manicaland province in the eastern parts of the country killing more than 300 people, displacing thousands.

MSD Warns Of Heavy Rains In Some Regions

The Department of Civil Protection has warned members of the public about floods expected in some parts of the country.

1. Some parts of the country have been receiving heavy downpours and 
this is expected to continue to Tuesday 10 December
2. Accordingly, the public is urged to be cautious particularly those 
close to large river systems
3. There have been incidents of communities being marooned by Ume 
River in Gokwe North and Ngezi River in Mberengwa
4. Communities are warned to stay clear of rivers, look out for rising 
water levels and supervise children.
