Former Energy and Power Development Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire, his son Lawrence, and former MDC-T MP for Gutu Central Oliver Chirume have officially rejoined ZANU PF.
They were welcomed back to the ruling party by President Emmerson Mnangagwa during an event at State House in Harare on Wednesday, September 18.
Mavhaire said that he was drawn back to ZANU PF by the country’s promising growth trajectory under the Second Republic. He said:

I just decided as a thinking being, the development being led by President Mnangagwa is very good.
</blockquote>
Also speaking to the media after a closed-door meeting with Mnangagwa at State House, Chirume expressed admiration for the ruling party. Said Chirume:

I was convinced by Lovemore Matuke [ZANU PF security secretary] to join ZANU PF so that we all work for the development of the country.
I once contested against my brother, Cde Lovemore Matuke, but I saw it fit to join the party that is doing well in developing Zimbabwe.
</blockquote>
Over the years, numerous former opposition members and officials have defected to ZANU PF amid a leadership crisis within the opposition ranks.
Currently, the only opposition party represented in Parliament, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has fractured into several factions vying for control.
The party’s founding leader, Nelson Chamisa, resigned in January 2024 after state institutions effectively transferred control to a relatively unknown activist, Sengezo Tshabangu.
Tshabangu went on to recall several CCC MPs and this significantly diminished the party’s representation in Parliament, effectively enabling ZANU PF to secure a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.
Meanwhile,  Mavhaire became popular in 1997 after openly calling for the resignation of President Robert Mugabe in parliament.
This led to his expulsion from ZANU PF. Following his fallout with the party, Mavhaire allegedly became a vendor in Masvingo where he was said to be selling oranges.
At that time he was said to be driving a ramshackle vehicle from which he sold fruits and vegetables.
Mavhaire was later readmitted to the party and in 2012, he clashed with his ZANU PF colleague Paul Mangwana over the implementation of the Indigenisation law.
He said that the law, under which all foreign-owned companies are forced to cede 51 per cent of their shares to locals, should not apply to Bikita Minerals as he is already a shareholder there.
This prompted Mugabe and the then Indigenisation Minister Saviour Kasukuwere to postpone the community share ownership scheme.
After having been fingered in the plot to oust President Robert Mugabe he went on to lose his post in the central committee and the Politburo.
Mavhaire was expelled from the party on 21 May 2015. This followed his initial dismissal from cabinet as the minister of energy. He was expelled together with other 6 senior members.

Dzikamai Mavhaire, his son, and Oliver Chirume rejoined ZANU PF. They were welcomed by President Mnangagwa. They praised the party for developing the country. Many former opposition members have also joined ZANU PF. The opposition party, CCC, has split into factions. Mavhaire was once expelled from ZANU PF but was later readmitted. He clashed with colleagues over a law affecting foreign-owned companies. He was expelled from the party in 2015. He is now back with ZANU PF.

Dzikamai Mavhaire Rejoins ZANU PF

Former Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) MP Takalani Matibe has crossed over to the governing party, ZANU PF.
Matibe served as the Member of Parliament for Chegutu West from 2008 to 2013, and he contested the seat as an independent candidate in the 2023 general elections but did not succeed.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/former-mdc-mp-joins-zanu-pf-takes-a-dig-at-selfish-chamisa/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> on Wednesday, Matibe, who had previously been associated with the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) before his defection, explained that he chose to join the ruling party after recognising ZANU PF’s resilience, describing it as “unconquerable.” Said Matibe:

My decision to join ZANU PF was motivated by the fact that ZANU PF is unconquerable, and no amount of opposition political activism can dislodge it for a very long time. Besides, there is no longer an opposition party to talk about in Zimbabwe.
So, instead of opposing for the sake of it, l felt the need to join ZANU PF under the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa who is building roads, dams and other infrastructure which wasn’t the case during the late former president Robert Mugabe’s era.

He also criticized former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa for reportedly personalising the party and marginalising other senior party members. Said Matibe:

Look at how Nero (Chamisa) was sidelining some of us in the whole agenda. I need to be relevant to my country and play my part in building it, so l joined the ruling party which is inclusive and concerned about development.
</blockquote>
Matibe recently completed his studies at the Chitepo School of Ideology, located at Dadaya National Youth Training Centre in Midlands, where he underwent Marxist indoctrination.

Former MDC MP Takalani Matibe joined ZANU PF because he believes they are strong and there is no real opposition in Zimbabwe. He was not happy with how the former CCC leader, Chamisa, ran things. Matibe thinks ZANU PF is inclusive and focused on development. Matibe went through training in ideology at a center in Midlands. He was an MP from 2008 to 2013. He ran as an independent but did not win in 2023. He thinks ZANU PF, led by President Mnangagwa, is doing better at building roads and infrastructure.

Former MDC MP Joins ZANU PF

About 200,000 former opposition members have reportedly joined ZANU PF under its Kumusha/Home/Ekhaya (KHE) programme in the past few years.
KHE is housed under the ZANU PF Commissariat Department and is being led by its director and former MDC Member of Parliament, Blessing Chebundo.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/200k-ex-opposition-members-join-zanu-pf">The Sunday Mail</a>, Chebundo said the department would continue to reach out to those in the opposition so that they join the ruling party. He said:

So far, we have 200,000 people in our books who have joined the ruling party from the opposition. In Mashonaland West, at least 6,000 people have joined the party.
</blockquote>
ZANU PF Political Commissar Mike Bimha said the former opposition members should be welcomed with open arms. He said:
<blockquote>
We want more people to come through to ZANU PF and from their testament, the Government, led by President Mnangagwa, is doing the right things to address people’s concerns.
</blockquote>
The latest to join the party include opposition bigwigs in Mashonaland West province such as Gift Konjani, Takalani Matibe and Virginia Mafuta.
Speaking at a ceremony hosted for them in Chegutu on Saturday, the defectors said that they were won over by ZANU PF’s development-oriented policies. Konjana said:

My Damascene moment came when I took time to look at the environment and works being carried out since the coming of the Second Republic.
I realised that it was important to put my weight behind the work that was being done by President Mnangagwa.
</blockquote>
Matibe, who is a former MDC Member of Parliament for Chegutu West constituency, said:
<blockquote>
The mantra by President Mnangagwa, that of leaving no one and no place behind, made me realise that I should join the train towards development.
I realised that if I decided to stay in an environment of perpetual negativity, I would be the one to miss out while others were progressing.
</blockquote>
The defection of opposition members to ZANU PF has weakened opposition parties’ political influence.
Internal divisions within opposition ranks have intensified as some members question the defections and the effectiveness of their leadership.

"200, 000 Former Opposition Members Join ZANU PF"

MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora has slammed former party spokesperson Witness Dube and other parliamentarians who recently defected to ZANU PF.
Mwonzora said Dube and the other defectors are “weak-willed” and were bribed by ZANU PF. <a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-national-byo-233670.html">He was quoted as saying</a>:
<blockquote>
Some top MDC leaders and parliamentarians, who were weak-willed, have been bought by trinkets and joined ZANU PF.
These blinded them such that they see nothing wrong with hobnobbing with a party that has destroyed the livelihoods of millions of Zimbabweans.
The MDC remains the only party that is pro-poor and pro-people, a true vanguard of the people.
</blockquote>
Dube, who dumped MDC-T on Saturday, was paraded by ZANU PF at a rally in Centenary later that day.
He claimed that the MDC-T received funds from the State but squandered the money resulting in its failure to field parliamentary candidates in the upcoming general elections.

Mwonzora Says Witness Dube Was "Bought" By ZANU PF

Former MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube has criticised opposition political parties in Zimbabwe and accused CCC and his former party of abandoning founding values.
Both CCC and MDC-T are offspring of the MDC which was formed in 1999 and led by trade unionists, academics and lawyers among other interest groups.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/witness-dube-slams-opposition-demigods/">The Herald</a>, Dube likened CCC and MDC-T to the Biblical Philistine building that Samson demolished by shaking two pillars, suggesting that the two parties will cease to exist without their current leaders. Said Dube:
<blockquote>
The opposition has deviated from the founding vision of its founding fathers to be about creating jobs for the people who will then draw political funding for their leadership.
CCC is blatantly a Philistine building that Samson destroyed by shaking two pillars.
Without Chamisa (Nelson) and a few others, there will be no CCC to talk about.
On the other hand, the MDC leadership has collapsed all organs of the party and abandoned the organic relations which the founding fathers had with the people.
More disturbing is the disturbing arrogance of both Nelson Chamisa and Douglas Mwonzora who in hindsight, tore the MDC the day they decided to run for secretary-general back in 2014.
CCC had double candidates at by-elections, and they are still in denial that they are that disorganized as they repeated the same albeit on a bigger scale in these general elections.
MDC misused the grant and failed to pay for its 87 candidates of mostly staff members who stepped on to save the party from the embarrassment of not having candidates.
The agenda is clear and systematically pursued. The opposition only uses the people to create jobs for each other and to access taxpayers’ money through political funding.
They have not added any value to the leadership matrix and development in our country.
</blockquote>
He said ZANU PF is the only party with a genuine passion for reforming itself, while “the opposition formations have been degenerating without any hope for ever self-healing as they have no institutional capacity to do so.”
Dube resigned from his post in the MDC-T on Saturday, 22 July, and later that day, was spotted at a ZANU PF rally that was addressed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Centenary, Mashonaland Central Province.

MDC-T Defector, Witness Dube, Castigates Zimbabwean Opposition Parties

Several MDC Alliance parliamentarians have defected to ZANU PF, alleging a lack of direction in the country’s opposition parties.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/10-mps-desert-mwonzora-for-zanu-pf/">The Herald</a> reported that on Tuesday, 11 July, ten (10) MDC Alliance legislators defected to ZANU PF.
Four of the defectors are Lindiwe Maphosa, Memory Mbondiah, Winnie Kankuni, and Virginia Mafuta were received at the ZANU PF headquarters by the party’s Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu and the Political Commissar Mike Bimha.
Maphosa, who is also the chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee for Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development said:

When I make a decision I make an informed one. As Members of Parliament and activists in our own right, we have decided to join ZANU PF from the opposition politics.
Some of us with other Comrades joined the opposition in 2000 and we have been in opposition politics since then.
We had a narrative as the opposition that has greatly changed and deviated from what we believed in as the youth who joined the opposition then.
We are Zimbabweans and Zimbabwe is the only country that we have, so we have seen that some of the leaders in opposition where we are coming from are incompetent.
There is Douglas Mwonzora who has turned MDC into something less than a burial society, in a burial society there are some activities taking place.
Mwonzora is an MDC-A president who is going to an election but managed to pay his own presidential fee without MPs and councillors.
CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and Mwonzora were only fighting for a big chunk but it’s the same thing.
We have seen it change into student activism that has no vision and they don’t know where they are going.
If you look at the way they conducted their primary elections, it was a circus.
If you look at how ZANU PF held its primary elections, we have seen young people coming up contesting for parliamentarian positions, something that is not happening in the opposition.
We have said we want to see young people incorporated. We have got a party that has a direction, that has got a vision, that has structures.
</blockquote>
Mpofu welcomed the opposition MPs saying ZANU PF is open for everyone to join. Mpofu said:
<blockquote>
We are welcoming our comrades to the home of the revolutionary party ZANU PF. The event is historic in that it is coming at a time when the President is moving across the country uniting our people and developing our great country.
In my capacity as the Secretary-General, on behalf of the party, on behalf of the President, and the entire leadership of ZANU PF, we welcome you with open hands.
You are no longer returnees, but members of ZANU PF from now. Your coming back is slightly different from other members, since this is a team of Members of Parliament, 10 of them. You will get the same treatment as any other party member.

Over the years, opposition MPs have defected to ZANU PF. Some of the defectors are Gabriel Chaibva, Obert Gutu and Blessing Chebundo.

MDC Alliance MPs Desert Mwonzora, Join ZANU PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Saturday welcomed hundreds of former opposition supporters who defected to ZANU PF including Collins Tsvangirai, the brother of the late MDC founding president Morgan Tsvangirai who died on Valentine’s Day in 2018.
Mnangagwa received the new members as part of ZANU PF’s “Huyai Kumusha Come Home Buyanini Ekhaya Muze Kumunzi” event held at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) on Saturday.
Tsvangirai, former MDC MP for Masvingo Urban Tongai Matutu, former Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) spokesperson Tatenda Mandondo, former MDC MP for Kwekwe Central Blessing Chebundo, and former MDC Alliance Deputy Treasurer General Lillian Timveous were among them who were welcomed to ZANU PF.
Tsvangirai’s defection from the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC Alliance was confirmed last week while Chebundo and Timveous defected to ZANU PF a few years ago.
Addressing the gathering, Mnangagwa said ZANU PF structures should prepare themselves for an influx of former opposition supporters. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-mnangagwa-welcomes-former-opposition-supporters-to-zanu-pf-including-late-opposition-icon-morgan-tsvangirais-brother/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> quoted Mnangagwa as saying:

Go and tell people that the revolution is ongoing and unstoppable. ZANU PF chitima chakafanana nenzou inongopfuura pamusha ichingo famba ichingo famba.
Under ZANU PF there is no small idea that is excluded from helping to uplift our people.
No one is more important than the other. Iye waunoshora anofema mweya waunofema.

Mnangagwa Welcomes Collins Tsvangirai To ZANU PF

MDC Alliance’s Bulawayo Ward Two Councillor Joyce Ndlovu has claimed that the majority of the party’s Councillors are planning to abandon MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora during the last days of their terms, that is, just before the 2023 general elections.
Mwonzora claims to be the leader of all MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors, and over the past two years, he has recalled dozens who refused to recognise his leadership.
However, some MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors have been hobnobbing with the CCC led by Nelson Chamisa, especially after the MDC-T/MDC Alliance failed to win a single parliamentary or local authority seat in the 26 March by-elections.
Ndlovu attended a caucus meeting of CCC Councillors two weeks ago despite her being an MDC Alliance Councillor. She accused her colleagues of hypocrisy for exposing her for attending a CCC meeting.
In leaked audio to the councillors’ WhatsApp group, Ndlovu also called Mwonzora “dull” for believing that he has the support of MDC Alliance Councillors in Bulawayo. She said:

MDC-T president Mwonzora is dull. If he was clever he would recall all the sell-outs from Bulawayo because from this group there is not even one councillor going with Mwonzora, the majority of you are saying they will leave him during the last days of your terms.
You are all sellouts you councillors, you went and attended a meeting called by president Chamisa in Harare, who sold you out, there is no councillor who is going with Mwonzora here, they are all lying, they are all sellouts.
I want that sell out now, you thieves, you sit at your house and busy exposing me, that sell out should be exposed so we cut off their nose.
</blockquote>
When contacted for a comment by The Sunday News, Ndlovu confirmed that she was indeed the one speaking in the audio and stood by what she said. Added Ndlovu:

Yes, I sent that audio, my fellow councillors are just not honest and are indeed sellouts, the whole lot of them.

'MDC Alliance Councillors To Ditch Mwonzora Before 2023 Elections'

The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa says it is investigating the recent defection of 11 of its Gweru councillors to the rival MDC-T.
Reports suggest that at least 11 Gweru Urban and four Vungu Rural District MDC-Alliance Councillors had defected to the Douglas Mwonzora-led outfit.
MDC Alliance Midlands Provincial spokesperson Takavafira Zhou told NewZimbabwe.com that they were not worried if some councillors decide to join another party. Said Zhou:

The issue is certainly under investigation by the party. What I can confirm is that some councillors inquired on what they should do that they were invited for a meeting by Mwonzora’s cabal and we advised them that an MDCA councillor who attends another political party’s meeting would have voluntarily expelled herself/ himself.
We are as a party not short of personnel and if some councillors decide to join another political party we are not worried at all because we are aware that such parochialism and narrow-mindedness will not take them far enough.
Our grassroots support continues to grow by leaps and bounds and will be a major decisive factor in the next elections.

The councillors who left the MDC Alliance last week attended a meeting held at Town House chaired by MDC-T secretary for local government, Faith Musarurwa Kamutsungira.
Councillors who dumped MDC Alliance at Gweru City Council are Notal Dzika (ward 8), Charles Chikozho (ward 10), Trust Chinese (ward 15), Catherine Mhondiwa (ward 13), Tawanda Magidi (ward 16), Doubt Ncube (ward 3), Farai Muza (ward 17), Godfrey Giwa (ward 6), Gideon Mugariri (ward 7), John Manyundwa (ward 18) and Edson Kurebgaseka (ward 9).
The four Vungu councillors who have jumped ship are Benjamin Mpala (ward 7), Spiwe Moyo (ward 8), Nyika Parirenyatwa (ward 16) and Restart Muswere (ward 10) and were part of the MDC-T indaba.

MDC Alliance Probes Mass Gweru Defections

Seven little-known former members of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa joined the ruling ZANU PF and were paraded at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Saturday.
The seven members are Emmanuel Chiroto, Farai Nyandoro, Chadamoyo Solomon Machingura, Peter Chandafira, Carlos Mudzongo, Simon Chidhakwa and Charles Masimike.
Chidhakwa, a former Zengeza West (MDC-T) said they have rejoined ZANU PF of their own volition and promised to work for the development of the country.
Former MDC Alliance National Secretary-General for Veterans Association, Charles Musimuki said that the MDC has split five times in twenty years and that is enough proof that there is no ideology in the party.
Receiving the defectors, ZANU PF First Secretary and President Emmerson Mnangagwa said ZANU PF is an indigenous party with no foreign strings attached.
He directed that the new members must be integrated into the party and be embraced by all structures.
Posting on Twitter, MDC Alliance vice-chairman and Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala said the seven “defectors” were booked at Rainbow Towers Hotel by the government at taxpayers expense for the past three days. <a href="https://twitter.com/JobSikhala1/status/1434114577252372483">Said Sikhala:</a>

Seven Former MDC Alliance Officials Join ZANU PF

The MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora has suffered a major blow after two of its top officials in Mashonaland East province resigned from the opposition party.
Provincial information and publicity secretary Farai Nyandoro and secretary-general Emmanuel Chiroto both tendered their resignations saying they were venturing into “private business”.
Chiroto is a former Harare deputy mayor while Nyandoro is a former Marondera mayor. Both served between 2008 and 2013.
In a letter dated 4 July, addressed to provincial chairperson Piniel Denga and co-signed by the duo, the activists said they were quitting active politics with immediate effect to pursue private businesses. The letter read in part:
<blockquote>We would like to notify your esteemed office of our decision to leave active politics with immediate effect.
This unfortunate decision has been a result of our desire to pursue private businesses, which do not allow us to engage in active politics.
We wish you all the best in your endeavour in trying to unite Mashonaland East province.</blockquote>
Both Nyandoro and Chiroto on Saturday confirmed the authenticity of the letter to The Standard but Denga professed ignorance over the matter saying he was yet to see the letter.

Mwonzora's MDC-T Suffers Major Blow

The MDC Alliance’s Bulawayo province has dismissed claims that its members had defected to ZANU PF in large numbers, saying the reports are part of a strategy to rig the 2023 elections.
Speaking in an interview with NewsDay on Thursday, MDC Alliance Bulawayo spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza said:
<blockquote>We believe that the claims of wholesale defection by MDC Alliance members to ZANU PF are part of the preparations to rig the 2023 elections and to then use such fallacious stories as a plausible rationale for rigging.
So yes, ZANU PF is perfectly entitled to have its own fantasies and to believe its own lies. There are just no MDC Alliance defections to ZANU PF.</blockquote>
This comes after ZANU PF Bulawayo province on Sunday claimed that over 50 former MDC Alliance members, mostly youth had defected to the ruling party.
The new recruits were paraded during a meeting held at the party’s Davies Hall provincial offices.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF interim provincial deputy chairperson Mnothisi Nsingo yesterday said the defections were a confirmation that the ruling party’s recruitment drive was paying dividends. Nsingo said:
<blockquote>What that means is that people have realised that they have been following lies all along.
It is a sign that people are appreciating all that is being done under the leadership of our party, and obviously, it shows that the party is growing.
We are restructuring the party. We are busy on the ground creating new cells where we are saying anyone who is free can come and join ZANU PF, without any conditions.</blockquote>

One of the defectors and former Ward 16 councillor, Alderman Richard Mufura, said infighting and undermining of authority within the MDC Alliance made him defect to the ruling party. Mufura told Manica Post:
<blockquote>Before I joined MDC, I was Zanu PF youth chairperson for Ward 16. I have over the years been contemplating retracing my roots to Zanu PF because it organised and has well-pronounced structures. There is unity and respect of authority in the ruling party.</blockquote>
ZANU PF Mutare DCC chairperson, Binali Yard welcomed the new members and called for unity.

10 MDC Members Defect To ZANU PF

The ruling ZANU PF party says former members and opposition party members who desire to join the party are expected to follow its “cardinal” rules.
ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu said the party will not shut the door on anyone but the newcomers and returnees should prove their “loyalty and discipline” before they are welcomed. Said Mpofu:
<blockquote>We have not shut the door for anyone interested in being part of the revolutionary train. The party just requires our deportees from the political oblivion to stand the test of loyalty and discipline to be welcome back to the mother party, Zanu PF.
His Excellency President Mnangagwa who is the First The Secretary of the party has made it clear that Zanu PF is too big, a pocket with the capacity to “pocket us” all as long as we are loyal to the creed of the struggle and it’s a true meaning to our patriotic existentiality. The door is wide open.</blockquote>
This comes after reports have suggested that former G40 functionaries are banging the ZANU PF door seeking to be re-admitted into the party.
The Generation 40, or G40 for short, was a group of Zanu-PF politicians that was believed to be working against the possibility of Emmerson Mnangagwa (Lacoste Faction) succeeding the late former president Robert Mugabe as president of Zimbabwe.
The faction, which reportedly had the likes of Patrick Zhuwao, Saviour Kasukuwere, Grace Mugabe, Jonathan Moyo, Mandiitawepi Chimene, Kudzanai Chipanga and Walter Mzembi in its ranks, among others, was stopped in its tracks when the military launched a coup in November 2017.
Recently, former senior opposition MDC officials, among them, James Makore, Obert Gutu, Lilian Timveos and Blessing Chebundo jumped ship and joined Zanu PF.

ZANU PF Sets Strict Conditions For G40 Returnees And MDC Defectors

MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa says his party will change the criteria used to select parliamentary and local authority candidates to weed out “fortune hunters” who connive with the ruling Zanu PF party once they win elections.
This comes after several MDC Alliance legislators and councillors swore their allegiance to the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora following a Supreme Court ruling in 2020 that nullified Chamisa’s election as late Morgan Tsvangirai’s successor in 2018.
In an interview with online news agency, CITE, at the weekend, Chamisa said the recent defection of top party executives to ZANU PF had taught them hard lessons and forced them to tighten screws in the selection process. He said:
<blockquote>What has happened is that a lot of our MPs and a lot of our councillors are people who are looking for opportunities.
In fact, I have learnt from what has happened that instead of having people coming across as change seekers, change agents and change-makers, they are actually job seekers, and so the preoccupation is to preserve a job as an MP or councillor.
That is why I am now apologising to the people of Zimbabwe to say that we had not thought through the processes of our candidate selection, and that is why we have to go back to the drawing board to say we don’t have a party candidate, but a community candidate, a collective ethic and converged process run by community and opinion-makers as opposed to a political party because these processes produce candidates who do not have their loyalty in communities and to the people.
Most of the MPs and councillors who have remained in Parliament on account of allegiance to a counterparty formed by Mnangagwa have not shown loyalty to the people and we are going back to the drawing board.
There will be a radical shift and change to the current candidate selection process in this organisation to allow the community to lead the process.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube dismissed Chamisa’s claims, saying the MPs had dumped him after realising that the MDC Alliance had low regard for constitutionalism. Said Dube:
<blockquote>There were no defections and the MPs only decided to stand on the side of their party constitution and the country’s Constitution.
It is misleading for long-time comrades like Chamisa to believe in the lie he started himself that there is money involved or buying of people involved. He cannot be the only paragon of political correctness.
He must not trivialise issues to that extent. It is very regrettable and insulting to people who made this party to be what it is.</blockquote>

Defections Taught Us A Lesson - Chamisa

Former MDC Alliance deputy treasurer-general and Senator Lilian Timveos, who recently defected to Zanu PF, claimed that she was given a special task by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Timveos made the remarks on Saturday during a Zanu PF meeting in Zvishavane that was attended by scores of the party’s supporters. She said:
<blockquote>I saw it fit to come to Zanu PF. It doesn’t make sense that the President (Mnangagwa) is from here (Zvishavane) and yet he has never won in this area.
That must change in 2023. Don’t be afraid that I am here for positions. My father, the President, gave me a task to do, so don’t be afraid that I am here for positions. I am here to work for the party, don’t worry.</blockquote>
Timveos, however, could not disclose the nature of the task given to her, but Zanu PF sources told NewsDay that she has been tasked with revealing the opposition party’s secrets and bringing more MDC-A officials to Zanu PF ahead of the 2023 elections.
Timveos, a former member of the late MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai’s infamous “kitchen Cabinet” said Mnangagwa is the “People’s President” a title prefered by MDC-A supporters for party president Nelson Chamisa. She said:
<blockquote>I say he (Mnangagwa) is the people’s President because of the way I was welcomed in Zanu PF.
You all know me and I am one of the people who thought Zanu PF was bad and I was very afraid, but it only took a phone call, phone call after phone call for me to be where I am today.
I can’t say much, but there are people I came with from the MDC Alliance.</blockquote>
Timveos was unveiled together with former MDC-T secretary for local government, Blessing Chebundo at State House in Harare recently.

'Mnangagwa Is The People's President', Says Ex-Chamisa Ally

50 members of Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party from Bulawayo and Matebeleland North dumped the former Vice-President’s party citing tribalism, lack of transparency and democracy. This follows allegations that the party was leadership was making self-serving decisions at the expense of the rest of the members. Some other members also accused Mujuru of adopting and using Zanu-PF strategies.
Former Matabeleland North provincial co-ordinator Max Mnkandla said:
<blockquote>As it is, the party has engaged in coalitions without consulting the masses. They should have consulted us first as the nucleus of the party, but this did not happen. That is why we are citing lack of democracy in the party.
My message to Mujuru is that she must ask herself where many people are who started the party with her. Is she the only right person and all others are wrong? The powers she gave to (national chair) Dzikamai Mavhaire have destroyed her party. We find that the Central Intelligence Organisation members are in the structures as members of the executive then you expect to building strong opposition from the people who are purely Zanu PF.</blockquote>
However, NPP national spokesperson Methuseli Moyo dismissed the matter saying it was a case of sour grapes from rejected members. Said Moyo
<blockquote>They are not defecting if they were to be honest with you. They have been rejected because of their unclear intentions. It will never be easy for anyone to use money or agents to infiltrate NPP. We have a very robust and alert system. We wish them well in their new venture,” he said.
For the record, Mnkandla had no post in the party. He was suspended from being chair over certain allegations. The irony is that there is a claim that NPP Bulawayo province is against Shonas, so are Nkiwane, Mnkandla, Dube and others Shonas? It is strange really.</blockquote>
