The presidential spokesperson, George Charamba, has commended the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) for working to maintain a mutual relationship between the government and the media.
Charamba, who is the Deputy Chief Secretary for Presidential Communications in the Office of the President and Cabinet, made these remarks following a production error by the Financial Gazette on Thursday.
This error incorrectly suggested that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had passed away, leading to controversy and an apology from Modus Group, the newspaper’s parent company.
The mistake occurred in an advertorial wishing the President a happy birthday, which included misplaced words in the message: “May His Soul Rest in Eternal.” Posting on X, Charamba wrote:

A TURNING POINT ON GOVERNMENT-MEDIA RELATIONS: This year alone, I have handled two issues of concern in the National Media: one to do with AMH on Zimbabwe-Zambia relations, and another to do with the Modus Group in respect of a mishap in the Group’s marketing arm.
The first was an editorial problem, the second a production error. Both related to His Excellency the President, Dr ED Mnangagwa, and thus fell within my purview.
In respect of the first problem, while the editorial team at AMH decided against an outright apology as requested, ZMC moved in by way of a retreat at the Rainbow towers which broadened discussions to cover the whole industry and issues bedevilling it.
I addressed this broad-based gathering tikawonesana tikayanana. The second problem, while quite emotive and potentially explosive, got resolved in a remarkably short space of time.
Two key elements set this matter apart and poignant: the Modus Group contritely took the initiative to suture the hurt through both a public apology and a formal apology to the Ministry of Defence.
It went further to despatch a delegation to the offended Head of State to personally tender a profuse apology. Again, I was not only in attendance but also involved in the behind-the-scene contacts.
Key lessons were drawn for the future. More critically, the President not only accepted the apology; he also made it a lot lighter by making a joke of the whole matter.
The Modus Group, wryly suggested the President, needed to send a wreath to State House; and since he was already dead, he suggested the wreath be given to his Principal Private Secretary, Amai Msindo!! All of us – offenders and defenders – roared with laughter!!
It was remarkable to see the Modus Team, the President, the Minister of Defence, the Director-General of CIO and myself united in raucous laughter.
The President was not yet done: did the Modus Group know that he had powers in the Constitution which allowed him to detain suspects for seven-long days without the Courts asking? Or that he had instructed the CIO to collect them and deposit them in detention?
To which the DG, added: My guys are actually waiting by the gates of State House to effect an arrest as directed! Again the whole group was in stitches, after which the President cut in: THE ORDER IS HEREBY RESCINDED! We laughed even more.
Reflecting on both cases and falling back on my many years in Government, Government-Media Relations rest on the temperament of the Leadership and all of us as functionaries.
Especially we the functionaries who should understand how a newspaper is produced and what conditions. That allows us to provide the first line of explanation to our Principals who might have cause to be upset or even angry.
We must resist the temptation to seek to be in the good graces of our Principals through stoking tensions and inventing conspiracies. Mistakes do happen in the media, as in any other sector including Government.
On their part, the media must quickly acknowledge mistakes and atone for them in ways provided for by the Code of their profession.
Apologies do not presage weakness; quite the contrary, they are the hallmark of great publications, and do build reader trust.
They also assure politicians on the availability of timeous repair in the event of injury. Such confidence makes interaction, not conflict, the weapon of first instance, as behoves a democratic and self-assured order.
Critically and last, our Organs – voluntary and statutory – must function. This goes a long way in assuring and pacifying all parties.
On that score, I want to pay tribute to ZMC for discharging its mandate admirably; above all for seeing both the trees and the woods. Each mistake/error is a learning opportunity for the Industry.

The spokesperson of the president of Zimbabwe, George Charamba, praised the Zimbabwe Media Commission for building a good relationship between the government and the media. The praise came after a mistake by the Financial Gazette that wrongly said the President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, had died. Charamba said the mistake was quickly resolved and the media apologized. He also mentioned the importance of the government and media working together, and how both sides need to acknowledge mistakes and make amends. Charamba thanked the media commission and the Modus Group for handling the situation well. The future of government-media relations looks positive.

Mnangagwa Spokesperson Says Government-Media Relations Are Strong

Daily News editor Guthrie Munyuki addressed the recent blunder made by the Financial Gazette regarding an advertisement from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces congratulating President Mnangagwa on his birthday.
The ad erroneously concluded with the phrase, “May his soul rest in eternal peace,” mistakenly implying that the President had passed away.
While many took to social media to mock the error, Modus Media, the publisher of both the Daily News and Financial Gazette, issued a formal apology to the President and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces for the oversight.
In an interview with ZBC News on Friday, Munyuki clarified that the mistake arose from the unintentional use of a previous condolence message from the ZDF. He explained:

The advert was actually congratulating the President for having turned 82. But unfortunately, we made a mortifying blunder. One of our designers picked up an old template so that she could get the correct symbols and court of arms of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. But unfortunately, the template that she had picked was the one where ZDF had previously expressed a condolence message to one of the fallen heroes and so she removed the old text and put in the new text but without checking that there was still something that she had to do on the foot of the advert and that was “May his soul rest in eternal peace”.

Munyuki, along with executives from Modus Media, met with Mnangagwa, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri and Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) chief Isaac Moyo at State House on Friday to formally apologise for the error.
President Mnangagwa reportedly accepted the apology, and in a light-hearted moment, he humorously asked, “Where are the flowers for the dead man?” This quip was shared by his spokesperson, George Charamba.

Guthrie Munyuki, a newspaper editor, explained an error in an ad that made it seem like President Mnangagwa had died. The mistake came from using an old template with a condolence message. People made fun of the mistake on social media. The company said sorry and met with the President to say sorry in person. Mnangagwa joked about the situation. The President accepted the apology. It was all a big mix-up, and everyone learned from it.

Munyuki Explains "Rest In Peace" Blunder In ZDF's Mnangagwa Birthday Message

MISA Zimbabwe has condemned the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/seven-journalists-chased-out-of-state-house/">ejection of seven journalists from the State House</a> where President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed a Tribunal to inquire into the removal from office of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission’s Spokesperson John Makamure.
The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana had earlier shared the details of this event on his personal Twitter page and indicated that “Media is invited”.
However, upon arriving at the State House and undergoing all the required procedures, it is reported that one of the security officers then asked for press cards. 
Resultantly, Alpha Media Holdings journalists Taurai Mangudhla, Shepherd Tozvireva, Blessed Mhlanga and Chengeto Chidi, Daily News reporter Katty Nyoni and Heart and Soul TV journalists Zibusiso Ncube and Atricia Gondo were then kicked out. 
The journalists highlighted that the security officer indicated that there were specific media houses that were welcome at this event. Journalists from state media representing ZTN, ZBC and The Herald were allowed to remain and cover the event.
In a statement seen by Pindula news, MISA Zimbabwe said all journalists should be afforded fair and equal opportunities to access information. Reads the statement:

MISA Zimbabwe condemns this continuation of discrimination against private media. All media practitioners, whether from state or private media, have a constitutional right to seek, receive and impart information as part of their media freedom.
The Constitution is very clear in Section 44 that the State and every person, including juristic persons and every institution and agency of the government at every level, must respect, protect, promote and fulfil the rights and freedoms set out in the Constitution.
There is, therefore no lawful, reasonable or justifiable basis for the discrimination of journalists from private media and the infringement to the realisation of their constitutional rights.
MISA Zimbabwe calls on all stakeholders within government, including the Zimbabwe Media Commission and the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services to undertake key and practical steps towards addressing this recurring media violation.
All journalists should be afforded fair and equal opportunities to access information.

MISA Zimbabwe Condemns Ejection Of 7 Journalists From State House Event

State security officers Monday chased out seven journalists from State House where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was swearing in <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-sets-commission-to-investigate-zacc-spokesperson/">a three-member tribunal</a> to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zacc-spokesperson-faces-expulsion-over-corruption-allegations/">investigate the removal from office</a> of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson John Makamure.
NewsDay chief reporter Taurai Mangudhla, photographer Shepherd Tozvireva, Heart and Soul head of current affairs and news Blessed Mhlanga and reporters Chengeto Chidi, Zibusiso Ncube and Atrishya Gondo were booted out by one of the security personnel without giving reasons.
Daily News reporter Katty Nyoni was also ejected.
This happened soon after the journalists had gone through the routine security clearance process plus COVID-19 tests at the State House clinic, according to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200002134/amh-journos-kicked-out-of-state-house-function">NewsDay</a>.
Meanwhile, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere has criticised the ejection of journalists from a public event. She said:

What kind of “government” chases journalists away from a national event paid for by taxpayers? It’s unconstitutional. You can’t only allow journalists you like and control. Media freedom is impossible under this regime. We need new leaders.

AMH is owned by Trevor Ncube, a former member of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Presidential_Advisory_Council_2019">Presidential Advisory Council (PAC).</a> He <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/watch-zimbabwe-worse-under-mnangagwa-than-during-mugabe-era-trevor-ncube/">left PAC early this year</a> citing a lot of issues bordering on President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Mnangagwa</a>‘s failure to transform the country’s fortunes. 
This ejection of the reporters comes amid calls for the implementation of media reforms to ensure the freedom of journalists and media houses.

Seven Journalists Chased Out Of State House

Daily News assistant editor Maxwell Sibanda has died, The Herald reports. According to the publication, Sibanda died yesterday morning at a Harare hospital after a short illness.
His death was confirmed by  Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ) in a statement that said:
<blockquote>The Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ) has learnt with deep sadness, the tragic news of the passing on of the Daily News Assistant editor, Maxwell Sibanda. The veteran journalist is reported to have passed on at a local hospital in Harare on the 22nd of February.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) president Michael Chideme described Sibanda as an inspirer and said:

In Max, we have lost a veteran journalist, a trainer, an inspirer and one of our senior editors. We continue to lose our talent, our inspirers and we are saddened by his death.
We would like to convey our deepest condolences to the Sibanda family and the Daily News family. He has left a huge gap in the entertainment sector.

In desperate, attempts to bid for whomever they work for, they claim that I am now of changed heart that I urge people to engage with Emmerson Mnangagwa. My foot!!. Blessing Mushava met me at Parliament and asked me about my Twit calling upon Zimbabweans to unite. In his mind, he thought for the sake of bidding my Twit meant unit with Mnangagwa. Shame. I have no aota (iota) of respect for Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday, today and tomorrow for me to suggest any form of talk with him.
For clarity, the unity by my Twit was unity to confront Mnangagwa and not the self-serving wishes as spoken by the Daily News. I told Blessing Mushava that I was not interested to talk to any press at the moment but he insisted on comment on my Twit which I politely and intelligently avoided.
For engagement in the future, the Daily News should retract its leading story about me which has enraged myself and has far-reaching consequences on my beliefs, reputation and standing in the public eye.</blockquote>

The Daily News has dispelled media reports that Zimbabweans Mogul Kuda Tagwirei acquired a stake in a company that publishes the Daily News, The Daily News reports.
According to the publication, online media had claimed that Tagwirei bought the Daily News:
<blockquote>In its e-paper yesterday, the Zim Morning Post also claimed that Tagwirei is a shareholder in Modus Media the publisher of the iconic and market leading business newspaper, The Financial Gazette.
Similarly, the paper also claimed that Tagwirei is a shareholder in Jester Media Services, the owners of the newly licensed 3K television station. This is simply not true.
Rather embarrassingly too, the paper also claimed that Modus Media is owned by Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe the publisher of the Daily News. This is false.

Rather ridiculously, Zim Morning Post further claimed that “the Daily News’ application (presumably for a TV licence) coincided with a radical shift in the publications (sic) editorial policy” — adding, for good measure, that “The pro-government policy coupled with Tagwirei’s influence appears to have catapulted the publications’ TV licence application to land one of six slots on offer”.
This is false and defamatory, as it suggests that Jester Media Services won its openly and transparently tendered TV licence through devious and corrupt methods.</blockquote>
The publication dismissed these reports and said Jester Media Services, Modus Media and 3K TV are owned by one family and claimed by ZimMorning Post that Jester Media Services won its TV license tendered publicly through devious and corrupt methods is defamatory.
A spokesperson for the stakeholders affected by the alleged false reports denied even doing business with Tagwirei at any point and said:
<blockquote>Neither the shareholders nor the directors of Jester Media Services, Modus Media and ANZ (which publishes the Daily News) have ever met, let alone had any business or social dealings with Mr Tagwirei. The malicious intentions by those peddling all these falsehoods are clear, and this is to impact negatively on the concerned businesses.
A clear demonstration of this co-ordinated malice is that none of those who have written all these false stories have ever attempted to verify their misplaced claims with us. But it will be well,” a spokesperson for the shareholders said.
Because the Zim Morning Post story went beyond the boundaries of incompetence and erroneous reportage, legal action will be taken against it. Tagwirei Did Not Buy Daily News - Daily News

Hours after Daily News’ <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/04/19/just-in-daily-news-editor-gift-phiri-dies/">Gift Phiri succumbed to cancer at Harare hospital yesterday</a>, a former editor at the same publication Ray Matikinye reportedly collapsed and died at his home in Bulawayo, Zimlive reports.
Matikinye’s death was confirmed by his daughter who said Matikinye had earlier in the day gone to the shops to buy some beer and came back and everything was normal:
<blockquote>He came back looking fine and jovial, but suddenly collapsed and died</blockquote>
Stanley Gama described Matikinye as a good mentor who taught him everything he knows:

Former Daily News Editor Ray Matikinye Dies

One of the country’s leading print publications, the Daily News last night announced that it was scrapping the subscription model which would see a reader paying a monthly subscription fee to access their news.

Daily News introduced their subscription model over a year ago and they recently redid their website. The reason why they ditched the subscription model is still not known. Daily News Ditches Subscription Model, Readers Can Now Access The News For Free

An opinionist writing for the Daily News said the President needs cushioning from gaffes as he turns to say the wrong things, at the wrong time, to the wrong people.
The writer was referring to the infamous speech by the president where he tells congregants that they should eat vegetables and potatoes because meat is not good healthwise.
The writer opined:
<blockquote>Mnangagwa was accustomed to operating from the shadows due to his strong security background and it would be tactless on the part of his communications and advisory teams to let him speak off the cuff quite often.
The reason why speech writers prepare speeches for presidents or senior officials is to guard against unguarded moments, which often take the speaker by surprise, when they trigger a reaction. 
A case in point is last Friday’s clean-up exercise where the president was in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kuwadzana">Kuwadzana</a> 2 in Harare.  He made a number of statements during his engagement which characterised him as arrogant and out of touch with reality.
Apart from that, some of the comments were unsavoury even if they were made in jest, as it appeared to be in the final analysis. 
But for those who were at Kuwadzana 2 shopping centre and indeed thousands of other ordinary citizens who expressed their disappointment and disquiet over Mnangagwa’s statements — through widely shared footage of his speech on social media, the damage had been done.
Mnangagwa’s “eat vegetables jibe” during the clean-up exercise stirred fierce criticism for the president. 
What might have been ordinarily treated as an innocuous answer turned into a mega public relations disaster for the president and his entire team.
The residents told Mnangagwa that they were spending weeks on end without eating meat due to the exorbitant prices being charged by butcheries.
Mnangagwa, in response, appeared to have been caught off guard as his answer was not what the genuinely-meat starved residents were expecting.
“Aah nyama, ko muriwoka. Muriwo ndiwo unodikwana nanadoctor. Madoctor anoda kuti museve nemuriwo, kuti mugare makasimba, mune utano, nyama haina kumbonaka veduwe. Aaaa apo tapesana. Ini ndoteerera vanachiremba. Saka ndodya zvangu muriwo. Kwanzi mavitamins anowanikwa mumurivo namapotatoes,” he said much to the chagrin of the residents.
(Why meat and not vegetables? Vegetables are recommended by doctors as they are good for your health. Meat is not good for you. This is where I disagree with you because doctors want people to eat vegetables. I listen to doctors and I eat vegetables.
Mnangagwa could have been well-meaning, but the timing and the manner in which it came out assumed a different meaning. 
At the end of the day it is down to the environmental scan, anticipation and preparing a speech which seeks to address most of the topical issues affecting people.
Environmental scanning and anticipation become even more important especially when you know that the president would address people in an urban constituency controlled by a popular opposition party.
It doesn’t make sense to make a scramble for corrections in the aftermath because “the horse would have bolted”</blockquote>

The ruling Zanu PF party has admitted that it has failed to achieve its pre-election promises.
Speaking to the Daily News on Sunday, ZANU PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo admitted that the party had failed. He, however, attributed the failure to the prevailing economic conditions which he said were making it difficult for the party to fulfill the promises. Moyo lamented:
<blockquote>Whether we are going to achieve our goals depends on the economy, but we remain focussed. We are faced with a difficult economy, we have gone through a dry season — most parts of the country did not have adequate rainfalls. We have had a tragic Cyclone Idai, all these things mean a lot but we remain focused.</blockquote>
Among other things, ZANU PF promised in its election manifesto that it will tackle economic challenges head-on. It also promised to ameliorate institutionalised and petty corruption and politics of patronage.
Results on the ground, however, portray a different narrative. Recently, president Mnangagwa admitted that corruption was more deep-rooted than he thought. The economy has also defyingly been on a downward spiral since the past 224 months.
Although the government has pleaded for patience, some analysts believe the party cannot and would not be able to redeem the country from its current entanglement.

ZANU PF Admits To Failure, Shifts Blame

Jonathan Moyo has called Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa a “lumpen democrat and a stinking hypocrite”. He was responding to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/strivemasiyiwa/posts/2374862199254928?comment_id=282458052458185&amp;comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R%2399%22%7D">comments by Masiyiwa on Facebook</a> where he said that Moyo had been involved in the shutting down of Masiyiwa’s newspaper.
Said Moyo:

"You're A Stinking Hypocrite" - Jonathan Moyo Responds To Strive Masiyiwa

<a class="ProfileHeaderCard-nameLink u-textInheritColor js-nav" href="https://twitter.com/ZimMediaReview">@Zim Media Review</a>, a Twitter account dedicated to reviewing of Zimbabwe media content and supporting freedom of expression posted a thread on Professor Jonathan Moyo’s role in lowering standards at state media &amp; restricting press freedom in Zimbabwe.
We quote from the thread:
<blockquote>Recall that Prof Moyo was made Minister of Info in 2000, after ‘sterling work’ as spokesman for govt’s failed new Constitution campaign.
ZBC was Moyo’s principal propaganda tool, but then in Sept 2000, Supreme Court nullified its monopoly, saying it was unconstitutional.
Supreme Court ruled on 22 September 2000 that private broadcaster Capitol Radio could operate within the country. Moyo was angry, of course
That radio ruling was similar to one granted to Econet ; “no person shall be hindered in the enjoyment of their freedom of expression”
In violation of a court ruling allowing Capitol radio to operate, Moyo personally supervised the dismantling of its equipment at Monoz Hotel
After he was done protecting ZBC’s monopoly, he went about destroying ZBC. More on that later. Jonathan, meanwhile, turned to newspapers…
In 2001, Daily News was the biggest paper in Zim. Bigger than Herald, the biggest state controlled newspaper. This had to be ‘sorted out’
In Jan 2001, Moyo threatened Daily News: “It is now only a matter of time before Zimbabweans put a final stop to this madness…”
Just a few days after Prof Moyo threatened to end “the madness” at Daily News, the paper’s printing press was bombed. Coincidence.

Meanwhile, at ZBC, Moyo started destroying the broadcaster. He split it into many parts and fired experienced staff.
There was no money for Prof’s ZBC ‘strategic business units’ and they all drained the holding company dry.Big losses, more retrenchments
At Herald, Prof Moyo fired editor Bornwell Chakaodza for challenging him; replaced him with Ray Mungoshi, who was to last only 7 months
Moyo would call Mungoshi, ordering him to place fake stories in Herald, telling him what next day’s Editorial should be (Wikileaks, 2011)
When Mungoshi refused to publish a fake story (about Masiyiwa), Moyo started bypassing the editor, going to editor’s juniors with orders.
So, Mungoshi, as Herald editor, would wake up in the morning to find stories he had not authorised on the front pages of the paper.
In March 2001, Moyo fired Mungoshi, Sunday Editor (Funny Mushava) and MD Tommy Sithole. He replaced them with friendly editors. Downhill.
In 2003, DailyNews was shut down after refusing to register under AIPPA. Year later, another paper, Tribune, also shut down. Many jobs lost.
At ZBC/Herald, the destruction continued under Jonathan’s chosen editors; inexperienced and loyal only to him, not readers or even boards
Under Prof Moyo, the main news of the day at ZBC/Herald would be whatever “Munhumutapa” wanted. For fear of losing jobs, nobody resisted.
To this day, that Moyo culture remains at ZBC and Herald; many professional journalists there, but they can’t risk expressing themselves
Today Prof complains daily about the lack of professional journalism at Herald. He is right. But don’t pity him. He’s reaping what he sowed</blockquote>

Jonathan Moyo's role in lowering standards at state media & restricting press freedom in Zimbabwe (Zim Media Review)

Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo warned the private media against attacking the party’s leadership. He said this while responding to a Daily News article that stated that Zanu-PF was headed for a split due to factionalism.
Said Khaya-Moyo:
<blockquote>The revolutionary party ZANU-PF issues this statement prompted by what appears to be systematic, yet incessant media attacks on the party and its leadership, more particularly by the independent media. Of specific essence is the lead story in today’s (yesterday’s) issue of the Daily News titled; “Mugabe, ED fight . . . Zanu-PF headed for split. You may agree that the story infers that the relationship between the President and First Secretary of ZANU-PF Cde R.G. Mugabe and Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa has gone unsavoury and is almost severed. For the benefit of those who want to live by the truth, the story cannot be anything besides being one of those many wishful and hogwash smear campaigns often peddled against ZANU-PF and its leadership by regime change agents under the guise of journalism. The relations between the President and First Secretary of the Party and his deputy are as solid and as cordial as ever and, all prophets of doom shall always be put to shame.It should be noteworthy that amid these concerted media vilifications, the revolutionary Party is emerging even stronger. ZANU-PF will remain undeterred in pursuit of its people-centred objectives, policies and programmes as set out under Zim-Asset and the 10 Point Plan as enunciated by the President. There is no doubt that ZANU-PF is already set in pole position ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections and that is what may also be triggering this gutter journalism. Those misinforming the public by writing falsehoods shall live to regret. Daily News journalist Mugove Tafirenyika was attacked and injured by police while covering clashes between police and foreign currency dealers in Harare City Centre today. Unconfirmed reports say the police fired rubber bullets at photojournalists covering the clashes.

Journalists injured while covering clashes  between  police and  forex dealers

Zanu-PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo dismissed the headline by Daily News that President Robert Mugabe had confirmed that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was poisoned at a Gwanda rally.
Speaking to Sunday Mail, Moyo said that the headline is pure criminal conduct. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>The headline in The Daily News is not only irresponsible and mischievous, but a confirmation that at some newspapers, journalism has gone to the gutters. The article is a clear form of criminal conduct and absolute hogwash. President Mugabe was addressing thousands of people at the Youth Interface Rally in Gweru and was very eloquent, and gave details about the alleged food poisoning. He emphasised that he had spent more than an hour with the VP and the VP’s doctor at State House last Wednesday. The doctor who was flown from South Africa to address the allegations of poisoning confirmed that there was no poisoning as confirmed by blood samples. The VP was, however, very ill with a lot of vomiting, diarrhoea and a swollen face, but was urgently treated in South Africa and is now fit again. The doctor told the President that they will keep monitoring the Vice-President to find out what may have caused the sickness, but it was not food poisoning. The party is relieved by the doctor’s report because we were very concerned about this development.</blockquote>
He also hoped that police investigations would reveal where Energy Mutodi got the information that Emmerson Mnangagwa was poisoned.

SK Moyo speaks on reports Mugabe confirmed Mnangagwa's poisoning

National People’s Party (NPP) spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire has questioned the reporting on NPP leader Joice Mujuru by independent newspaper the Daily News. Writing on his facebook page, Mawarire said the attacks are “now nauseating.” Said Mawarire
<blockquote>DAILY NEWS ATTACKS ON MUJURU NOW NAUSEATING
I have observed the way the Daily News has been reporting news on Dr Joice Mujuru since the expulsion of Didymus Mutasa from ZimPF before we rebranded to NPP and I am convinced that there is a grand plan somewhere to portray a false picture that Mujuru’s NPP is weaker because of the expulsion of malcontents who were stalling progress and derailing coalition talks that we are having with fellow opposition parties.
It is very clear that the Daily News is not doing this out of sympathy for Mutasa and his partners but is desperate to paint a picture that only Morgan Tsvangirai is left with the political currency to lead the coalition.
The desperation to have Tsvangirai as the coalition leader is manifest in some contrived and funny endorsements by politically tainted people like Mutasa who, only yesterday, were fighting tooth and nail to stall any progress that we were making to ensure an MoU between our parties was signed. Equally, headlines that insinuate that “Mujuru dithers on opposition coalition” are being crafted by the Daily News to plant negative perceptions around Mujuru and NPP on matters to do with coalition as if there is a God givein instruction that all parties must endorse Tsvangirai as the coalition leader.
That the Daily News wants to criminalise anyone who hasn’t fallen for their Tsvangirai endorsement mantra is quite evident in their latest attack on Mujuru and that such ATTACKS are clearly planned media campaigns bordering on political skulduggery is not difficult to discern.
What is unfortunate is that perceived progressive elements like the Daily News have fallen for this premature coalition leader endorsement started by Robert Mugabe that Mutasa is now singing with relentless profanity.
It should, however, be made abundantly clear that Mujuru and NPP are amenable to a coalition but we are against individuals who are so power drunk to the extent of wanting to be endorsed by questionable characters who have no political party, have a dirty and murderous past and are known now for their desperatie attempts at gettting back to good terms with Mugabe. Surely if you see the devil pretending to be an usher to take you to heaven, that’s a good enough sign that you are approaching hell.
It is imperative that political parties form a coalition but it is politically dangerous to have characters that are so desperate to lead the coalition that they don’t want a democratic process to select the leader of the coalition. We don’t want leaders who are so power drunk that they would turn a Nera platform into an endorsement pedestal even from people that we know are working with the ruling party to foil any prospects of the opposition going into the next election as a united front.
Our people want opposition parties to form a pre-election coalition but they also want a legitimate, plausible and credible process to choose a presidential candidate who will represent all of us. If that process results in Mujuru being chosen the leader, so be it. If Morgan Tsvangirai is chosen it is welcome. If Biti or any other leader is chosen that would be fantastic and the duty for all of us will be to rally behind that leader and ensure he/she wins the election in 2018. We however, will not entertain dubious characters who are doing the bidding for Zanu-PF to behave like they represent everyone thereby purport to be endorsing anyone when they represent no one.</blockquote>

Mawarire accuses Daily News of "nauseating" attacks on Joice Mujuru

<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club">Dynamos</a> through its lawyers Farai Nyamayaro Law Chambers responded to an article published in the Daily News last Thursday.
In a statement the club notes that,
<blockquote>Our client advices that, the article contained information that was misleading. It denies in toto that there is any siphoning of gate takings at the club. After receiving money from whatever source including the said gate takings, the budget committee sits to prepare a budget. Payments are then made according to the budget that would have been prepared. The budget committee is constituted by the following: Board Chairman, Finance Director, Club President, Club Secretary, Club treasurer, Club Advisor. No expenditure or payment is made outside the budget that would have been prepared by the budget committee. It is therefore virtually impossible for the Treasurer to make payments from the car boot as he will be required to account for every cent at all financial meetings. You may also need to know that it is not the even the Treasurer, who effects payments but the Finance officer. The Finance Officer effects payments in accordance with the approved budget.</blockquote>
The Harare giants also denied there was interference from the Board of Directors in the day-to-day running of the club.
