Statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police  (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi over murder cases and crimes of passion in the country:

<h2>ZIMBABWE REPUBLIC POLICE EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER MURDER AND CRIMES OF PASSION IN THE COUNTRY</h2>
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with the number of murder cases which are occurring throughout the country due to domestic violence which includes extramarital affairs, sharing of property on separation and failure to resolve petty issues by couples.
Murder cases are also being recorded from people clashing at beer-drinking places, witchcraft allegations and debt settlement disputes.
The police have also recorded cases where minors aged between Seven years to 17 years have killed each other while playing or engaging in various chores which include running, and playing soccer, among others.
In one of the cases, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of murder which occurred on 20th July 2024 at around 2200 hours at Bigest Farm, Tengwe.
Liberty Chimurambi (28) lured his wife, Aphocine Mandimutsa (24), to a footpath where he stabbed her with an unknown object on the neck before committing suicide.
Aphocine Mandimutsa was found lying lifeless with a cut on the neck about 500 metres from her parents’ homestead while Liberty Chimurambi was found hanging from a tree at Paradise Farm, Tengwe on 21st July 2024.
The bodies of Aphocine Mandimutsa and Liberty Chimurambi were ferried to Karoi District Hospital for post-mortem.
Investigations by the police established that the couple had a misunderstanding over infidelity and they were on separation.
In another murder case which occurred on 21st July 2024 at around 2030 hours, Ezekiel Chibvongodze (29) stabbed his wife, Mitchel Evelyn Katakwe (25) and his son, Tawana Chibvongodze (5), with an okapi knife at a house in Nyameni, Marondera. The suspect allegedly had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue.
After committing the offence, the suspect fled from the scene and later handed himself over to the Police on 22nd July 2024 for the due processes of the law to take its course.
On 19th July 2024, Memory Choga (41) was arrested in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Jeche Primary School, Sadza in which her husband, Douglas Choga (45) died.
The suspect assaulted the victim with a log indiscriminately following a misunderstanding after the victim had transferred his monthly salary from his bank account into his Ecocash account. The victim sustained multiple wounds all over the body and he succumbed to the injuries.
On 21st July 2024, Thembelihle Maphosa (22) was arrested in connection with a case of murder in which Timothy Ncube (25) was found dead at his residence at Mahaja Extension, Ntabazinduna on 19th July 2024. The victim had a deep cut on the neck and the head.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Disco Mubonesi (29).
The suspect is being sought in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Ndunduma Village, Chipinge on 20th July 2024 in which his aunt, Mandawani Muponesi (60) died.
Disco Mubonesi burnt the victim’s hut after accusing her of witchcraft. The suspect went on to stab the victim with a sharp object on the arms and legs.
The victim was ferried to St Peters Hospital, Chipinge for treatment where she succumbed to injuries upon admission.
In another case, Senge Ncube (45) was ferried to Plumtree Hospital by a well-wisher after he was found lying by the roadside with multiple injuries at Mbali Business Centre, Plumtree on 19th July 2024 at around 0800 hours.
The victim succumbed to the injuries on admission at the hospital. Anyone with information to contact the National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800 197.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to find peaceful methods of resolving disputes or differences at the family and society level.
This includes at fora where adults and children will be embarking on various socio-economic activities. The church, traditional leaders and the general community are implored to come on board to ensure the public respects the sanctity of human life.
The Police will continue to engage communities in order to promote the culture of law-abiding citizens in all facets of life.

Many murders are happening due to domestic violence, arguments at drinking places, witchcraft accusations, and debt disputes. Some cases involve children killing each other. One man, Liberty Chimurambi, stabbed his wife and then killed himself. Another man, Ezekiel Chibvongodze, stabbed his wife and son. People are urged to resolve disputes peacefully, and the police are asking for information about a man named Disco Mubonesi who is wanted for murder. The police want everyone to respect human life and follow the law.

Police Concerned Over Murder And Crimes Of Passion Across The Country

A jealous 22-year-old allegedly fatally stabbed another man with an okapi knife in the stomach after accusing him of having an affair with his estranged wife.
In a statement posted on the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) account, Police said Chipengo Mpande (22) stabbed Fragment Chari (26) who later died upon admission at Kariba District Hospital.
The incident occurred on 30 November 2023. Police said:

Police in Kariba have arrested Chipengo Mpande (22) in connection with a case of murder that occurred on 30/11/23 in which Fragment Chari (26) died.
The suspect accused the victim of having an affair with his estranged wife before stabbing him once on the left side of the stomach with an okapi knife.
The victim was rushed to Kariba District Hospital where he died on admission.

Crimes of passion are common in Zimbabwe. These refer to violent acts committed in the throes of intense emotion, often related to jealousy, revenge, or betrayal within intimate relationships.

Man Fatally Stabbed Over "Affair" With Someone's Estranged Wife

The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops have expressed concern about the constant threat to peace in the country. They stated that the threat does not come from war, but from new challenges that disturb people’s calm and tranquillity. They highlighted the high levels of crime, an increase in armed robberies, and domestic violence within families. In a pastoral letter seen by Pindula News, they mentioned the perpetual state of being in an election mood, which brings fear and unease. They noted that elections in Zimbabwe are often marked by violence. We present the letter below:

The Coming of Christ; “The Prince of Peace”
“For the child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on his shoulders; And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”(Isaiah 9:6).
1. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Men and Women of good will, as the Church begins the Season of Advent, we your shepherds and fellow citizens would like to exhort and reflect with you on this Holy season. Advent is in many ways a season of contradictions. In terms of the Church calendar we are at the beginning of the new Church year and yet civilly we are in the last month of the calendar. Socially, the season is lived in the frenzy of shopping getting ourselves ready for Christmas. Spiritually, we are preparing for the coming of Christ. We remember the Lord’s promise that he will come at the end of time. We also remember that Christ once came and inhabited our common home: mother earth. That was when he was born in Bethlehem of Judea.
2. Christ’s first coming was heralded by the prophets who called him the “Prince of Peace.” At his birth the angels sang “Glory to God in the highest and peace to people of good will. Though Advent presents us with many themes for reflection, the theme of peace seems to be the most imposing one. Globally, we are in a world that has seen a prolonged war between Russia and Ukraine. As if that was not enough, we now have another war in Israel and Palestine. Our own continent is not exempt. In its different regions we have pockets of violence that have seen many people living as the internally displaced or refugees.
3. As a nation our peace is constantly under threat. Not that there is a war threat, far from that, but we are seeing new threats to people’s calm and tranquility, which is what the Hebrew word for peace, “Shalom” entails. There is a high level of crime in many communities. We have seen the upsurge of armed robberies. Gender-based violence in families is on the rise. Politically, we seem to be perpetually in the election mood, a reality that in this country, sends a shudder down the spine. For our elections are characterized by violence.
4. Before and during the elections we made a plea for peace. We emphasized the dignity of the human person, the importance of tolerance, co-existence and suggested the politics of persuasion. We would like to express our gratitude to all citizens who did heed the message of peace. The past election was indeed different. It was not characterized by violence. That should be applauded. Though this is not to say there was no violence. We had hoped that as a nation we had seen the light and we were beginning to appreciate each other as citizens with divergent views and people of different persuasions, men and women who can rise above their differences. Sadly, as reported by the different election observers, our elections left a lot to be desired. They were characterized by a new form of violence: refusal to let the nation’s voices be heard through the ballot. That act of robbing people of their voices is a form of violence that should be condemned by all people of integrity, by all loving and peaceful citizens.
5. In the post-election period most of the gains that we had made; the promotion of peace, diffusing the tensions between various political players and their supporters were lost. There were retributions targeting those who were perceived to have voted wrongly, whatever that means! With the recent political recalls of the elected members of parliament, senators and councilors, the nation has been thrust into a new form of violence: people rightfully elected, can wantonly be recalled. It would seem the voices of the people who voted can easily be ignored. as if they were insignificant. Were those elected not given the mandate by the people? What happens when the people’s voices are silenced by the masters of political expediency? One thing for certain is that people feel they are not respected and listened to. This breeds tensions and many who have no ways of diffusing them bottle them up. This is not healthy for people and the society. If it is true that. ‘an injury to one of us is an injury to all of us; then we are all living in a wounded Society.
6. What d worse is what these recalls have unearthed. Apart from holding all of us in the dreaded perpetual election mode. they have given birth to violence. Even those who, for a short while, had shunned violence. have fallen back on their default position of violent campaigns. People are being abducted, brutalized and left for dead. Recently, a life was lost because of politics What is the objective of this violence? Is it to terrorize people into voting for a particular candidate or not to vote at all? We would like to reiterate what we said before the August elections when we directed our plea to the citizens “…Refuse to oe used in violent attacks against your fellow brothers and sisters. Any party or politician that incites violence or persuades you to loin in violent attacks, is not worthy of your vote. Give your vote to those who deserve it’ To the politicians we said,” _Peace begins with each one of us. In your roles, be ambassadors of peace. Let no blood be shed in your name and for your vote. Remember, “The bloodshed in the land cries out to God (Gen. 4: 10).
7. Together as we prepare to welcome Christ at Christmas, let us remember that when the “Prince of Peace.- and that He Hour Peace. The peace of Christ finds abode. In those who are calm and enjoy tranquility, it also embraces what the ancient Greeks said peace entails- unity and accord. Calm and tranquility, unity and accord are not far from our reach, we can achieve these if once again we recognise the dignity of the human person, something that Christ upheld by choosing to be born In human form and being in solidarity with us which is what his coming as “The Prince of Peace,” entails: ‘He identifies with us in all things but sin’ (Hebrews 4:15).
8. This Advent we once again appeal to our political leaders to denounce politically motivated violence. To the law enforcement agents, bring perpetrators of political violence to book. To the legislators, revisit the enacted laws that can easily be manipulated at the expense of the people’s basic rights and freedoms. It Is in the same vein that we would like to remind everyone that we all have a duty to work for the promotion of peace and to be agents of peace. We all need peace. Lack of peace has a negative effect on our country. Economically, it works against all our ideals of a middle Income economy and the realization of vision 2030. Socially, it breeds animosity and creates a divided nation. Spiritually, it robs us of our identity as the sons and daughters of God for, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called the sons of God’ (Matthew 5:9).
9. In this reflection we would like to exhort all peace4oving Zimbabweans to pray for peace particularly in our land and everywhere in solidarity with other people in other parts of the world which are troubled Let us work to foster peace, the greatest good that facilitates the development of nations and the progress of people. May the Lord look with a kindly countenance on our efforts to promote and build peace. We pray for all those whose mandate In the land is to safeguard the rights of our people that they may never tire in working for the creation of peaceful environments. May Christ, ‘the Prince of Peace’ who Is our Peace come and transform our attitudes and make all of us instruments of his peace.
We wish you a blessed Advent season and the peace of Christmas.

Full Text: "As A Nation Our Peace Is Constantly Under Threat" - Catholic Bishops

Police in Manicaland Province have urged members of the public to settle their disputes amicably by engaging in peaceful dialogue.
The call came after a 28-year-old man who suspected that his 52-year-old wife was having an affair with a villager allegedly stoned the rival suitor to death.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, confirmed the incident which happened in Makamba Village under Chief Chikore’s area.
He said Phillip Mufapaire of Mayo, Makoni, first punched Tichaona Karongwe before attacking him with a brick.
Karongwe sustained serious injuries and well-wishers rushed him to Nhowe Mission Hospital in the neighbouring Mashonaland East Province where he was pronounced dead. Said Insp Muzondo:

On May 6, Mufapaire from Makamba Village had an altercation with Karongwe, whom he accused of dating his wife, Agnes Fondishi.
They started fighting and the incensed Mufapaire overpowered Karongwe. Fondishi heard some screams and went out to investigate.
She saw Mufapaire attacking Karongwe who was lying down. Fondishi alerted neighbours and they rushed to the scene.
The public effected a citizen’s arrest on Mufapaire, while others rushed Karongwe to Nhowe Mission Hospital.
He, however, died before reaching Nhowe Mission Hospital.
A report was made to the police. Upon interrogation, Mufapaire revealed his suspicions of an affair between Karongwe and his wife.

Murder cases emanating from domestic disputes and differences between lovers and ex-lovers have been on the rise in the country over the past few years.
