One of the largest political parties in Namibia, the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_Democratic_Movement">Popular Democratic Movement</a> (PDM), has objected to the appointment of Wicknell Chivayo linked company, Ren-Form.
Ren-form reportedly won a tender worth US $60 million from the Namibian government to supply election materials. The Namibian election is on the 27th of November.
The same company won a tender in Zimbabwe to supply the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission with election material last year. However, it was later revealed the process may have been corrupt with allegations that Wicknell Chivayo used the company to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/06/14/south-african-firm-linked-to-chivayo-charged-zec-us1-2-million-for-a-server-worth-us4-000/">overcharge ZEC</a> in return for kickbacks to himself, colleagues and some ZEC officials. The revelations came out <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/06/21/wicknell-chivayo-will-be-forgiven-but-his-colleagues-will-suffer-says-mzembi/">following disagreements over the distribution of kickbacks</a>.
Responding to the news of Renf-form winning a tender in Namibia, PDM party leader McHenry Venaani urged Namibians to march with him next week in protest. Said Venaani:

I want to alert the nation that we have given notice to the Inspector General of Police, that we are going to have a march on Tuesday to protect our democracy. To reject with the contempt it deserves, what the Electoral Commission of Namibia and its shenanigans wants to do, by inviting a company that is embroiled in international corruption in Zimbabwe and South Africa, importing their corrupt activities that they practiced during the failed Zimbabwe elections into Namibia. 
We are calling upon the ECN to desist from having this company.

The PDM has also posted a letter its lawyers sent to the ECN, which said in part:

It has come to our client’s attention that the controversial businessman, Wicknell Chivhayo, is connected to the supplier, Ren-Form CC. Given the exploits of Mr Chivhayo and his alleged connections to corrupt dealings as reported in the media our client is concerned that the integrity and credibility of the election process in the Presidential and National Elections would be undermined and tainted by the appointment of the supplier. 
Therefore, our client shall take such steps it may deem necessary should your offices proceed to utilise the intended supplier.

While confirming the awarding of the tender to Ren-form, the ECN has said the tender value quoted in the media is incorrect and that a rigorous process went into selecting the company:

The decision to award the contract to Ren-Form CC was made following a thorough and rigorous evaluation process that adhered to the laws governing procurement. Factors considered included compliance with technical requirements, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and the ability to meet strict timelines. To be clear and set the record straight: the total cost of this contract is N$6,250,686—far from the grossly inflated and fictitious figure of N$1 billion being circulated in certain media reports.

Namibian Opposition Objects Appointment of Wicknell Linked Company In Supply Election Materials

The State has withdrawn murder charges against Obert Masaraure and Robson Chere, leaders of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) before a plea was entered. This comes after nearly eight years of delays, during which the trial failed to commence.
Masaraure (pictured) serves as the president of ARTUZ, while Chere holds the position of secretary-general.
Masaraure, represented by lawyer Doug Coltart, appeared before Harare resident magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Friday, November 11.
Allegations were that on June 11, 2016, at around 10 PM, Masaraure and his accomplices, who remain at large, were in the company of the now-deceased Roy Issa at the Quill Club in the Ambassador Hotel, where they were drinking.
Allegedly, they left the club about 30 minutes later and proceeded to the Cresta Jameson Hotel, where Issa, a youth activist and member of ARTUZ, ultimately died.
In court, prosecutors claimed that Masaraure and Chere, along with four unnamed accomplices, engaged in a drinking spree in Harare with Issa. 
Following a misunderstanding, they reportedly ganged up on him and assaulted him in the head with unknown weapons, leading to his death.
Prosecutors further alleged that the accused attempted to conceal the crime by falsely claiming that Issa fell from the balcony of Jameson Hotel, resulting in his death.

The State dropped murder charges against Obert Masaraure and Robson Chere, leaders of a teachers' union, after long delays. Masaraure is the union's president and Chere is the secretary-general. Allegations said they were involved in a drinking spree that led to a youth activist's death. The State claimed they assaulted him, leading to his death, and tried to hide the crime. The trial didn't start for eight years. Masaraure's lawyer represented him in court. The charges were dropped before they entered a plea.

The Group J 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matchday 4 qualifier between Namibia and Zimbabwe on 10 October at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, will be played behind closed doors.
This was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) in a statement on Monday, October 7.
ZIFA said that Namibia, the home team for the first of two back-two-back matches, requested that the game be played without fans in attendance. ZIFA said:

ZANU PF politburo member and retired army general Engelbert Rugeje was reportedly involved in a car accident last week in Mt Pleasant, Harare, but emerged from the incident uninjured.
<a href="https://www.thestandard.co.zw/news/article/200032960/rugeje-cheats-death-in-bizarre-incident">The Standard</a> reported ZANU PF sources as saying one of the wheels of Lt Gen (Rtd) Engelbert A. Rugeje’s car came off, and the vehicle was prevented from overturning by hitting some rocks.
It is alleged that there have been attempts to cover up the accident; however, The Standard has obtained photos of the damaged vehicle. Said a source:

Our former ZANU PF national political commissar Rugeje was involved in an accident last week in Mt Pleasant during the night and is lucky to have survived.
There have been attempts to cover up the accident as the security services don’t want the matter to be discussed in the public domain.

Rugeje appeared surprised when The Standard reached out for a comment. “Who provided you with this information? Where did you hear that?” he responded tersely, declining to comment further.
Since the 2017 military coup, Zimbabwe has reportedly lost over 25 serving and retired army generals, some of whom were instrumental in the ousting of former President Robert Mugabe.
Many senior military officers have since been retired or redeployed.
Key military figures, including Rugeje, played a significant role in keeping Mugabe in power after he lost the first round of elections to opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai in 20008.
The army allegedly led a violent campaign against the opposition in the run-up to a presidential runoff that forced Tsvangirai to withdraw from the election.
In December 2017, Engelbert Rugeje was promoted from major general to lieutenant general upon retirement and became the ZANU PF political commissar.
However, he was removed from this position in 2019 and replaced by war veteran Victor Matematanda, who was later appointed as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique.
Matematanda was succeeded in 2021 by Mike Bimha, who was then replaced in May this year by Munyaradzi Machacha, formerly the principal of the ZANU PF Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology.
Rugeje is currently the ZANU PF Secretary for Economic Affairs in the Politburo.

Zimbabwe’s new gold-backed currency, the ZiG, is trading at 14 per United States dollar, marking its weakest level on the official market since it began trading five months ago.
The ZiG is currently experiencing its longest losing streak against the dollar, having declined for 23 consecutive trading days.
On September 27, data from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) indicated that the ZiG was trading at 14.01 to the US dollar.
In contrast, the parallel market quotes the currency at 28, which is double the official rate, according to ZimPriceCheck.Com, a website that tracks both rates.
The widening gap between the official and parallel market rates is impacting formal businesses, according to the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries, the nation’s largest manufacturing group.
In response to questions sent by <a href="https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/investing/2024/09/27/zimbabwes-gold-backed-zig-weakens-past-14-per-dollar-to-record-low/">Bloomberg</a>, Sekai Kuvarika, the association’s chief executive officer, said:

The central bank has suppressed the exchange rate for too long, resulting in a wide parallel-market premium.
This has also worsened the situation, which could have been improved by accepting that the parallel market also needs to be reined in.

On April 5, the ZiG was introduced to replace the Zimbabwean dollar, which had depreciated over 80% against the US dollar in 2024 and consistently lost value throughout the year until it was phased out.
The gold-backed currency represents the nation’s sixth attempt to establish a stable local currency since 2009.
Kuvarika also said that committing to a market-determined exchange rate and allowing the ZiG to depreciate in response to market sentiments could help stabilise the currency.
She added that the Treasury could increase demand for the local unit by expanding the range of taxes payable in the currency, including pay-as-you-earn and value-added tax.
Currently, the ZiG is used in 40% of transactions, up from 15% at its inception, while US dollars continue to be used for a majority of transactions.

ZiG Hits Weakest Level Yet, Trading At 14 Per US Dollar

A 23-year-old man from Kwekwe appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, facing allegations of rape.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused and the complainant are not related. Said the NPA:

Allegations are that some time in September 2024 at around 1500 hours the accused person dragged the 10 year old girl into an unfinished building where he told her that he wanted to have sexual relations with her.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she screamed or told anyone. He then removed her clothes before allegedly raping her. The accused person only stopped when he heard a voice calling the complainant’s name.
On the 14th of September 2024 at around 2000 hours the accused person cut off his manhood with a knife whilst screaming that the complainant was his wife.
The matter came to light when the complainant confided in her grandmother about the offence.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) requested that the accused undergo examinations by two doctors under the Mental Health Act, and this application was granted.
The accused is currently remanded from a hospital bed in Gweru, where he is receiving medical attention. He is scheduled to appear before the court again on October 8, 2024.

A 23-year-old man raped a 10-year-old girl and then cut off his own manhood in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe. The man threatened the girl and assaulted her in an unfinished building. The girl told her grandmother about what happened. The man was taken to the hospital and will have a mental health examination. He will be in court again on October 8, 2024.

Kwekwe Man (23) Rapes 10-Year-Old, Then Cuts Off His Manhood

Gold miners in Mashonaland East Province have accused the police of shielding illegal miners who are disrupting their operations.
A manager at Hun Sen Mine, a major Chinese-owned operation in the Makaha area of Mutoko, told <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/">Pindula News</a> that illegal gold miners, commonly known as makorokoza, are increasingly encroaching on their claims.
These illegal miners not only operate without authorisation but also pose serious environmental hazards due to their unsustainable practices.
The manager, who requested anonymity, alleged that they have reached out to police in Murehwa, including Officer Commanding District Superintendent Moyo and Inspector Katigu, head of the Police Internal Security and Intelligence (PISI), to address the issue of illegal mining in the area. Said the official:

In early September, we contacted [Dispol] to report the presence of illegal miners and requested their arrest along with the confiscation of their equipment.
He agreed to conduct an operation and asked us to fund it, providing a budget of US$2,700 to cover fuel and the officers’ meals during the deployment.
We paid him the amount in cash through [the PISI] three weeks ago, and he assured us that the operation would take place within three days. However, nothing has materialised.
The company management has reached out to him twice, but he continues to postpone the operation, and to date, no action has been taken.
Now, we are noticing police officers meeting with the illegal miners instead.

The official further alleged that they have received information indicating that these police officers are warning the illegal miners about the upcoming operation, advising them to hide their equipment before the scheduled enforcement action. He queried:

Our concerns now centre on whether it is lawful for senior police officers to demand payment to fulfil their official duties.
Is it appropriate for them to inform criminals about an impending operation? Can we expect to achieve the desired results from the police under these circumstances?

Efforts to obtain a comment from the local police over the allegations of protecting illegal miners and asking for payment from miners by law enforcement are ongoing.

Gold Miners Accuse Police Of Shielding Makorokoza

ZANU PF-aligned political commentator Kudzai Mutisi believes that Zimbabwe’s policymakers are conflicted, which is why they aren’t properly promoting the use of the ZiG, as it might hurt their personal interests.
In a post on X, Mutisi argued that regular people shouldn’t be blamed for the ZiG’s poor performance, as they have always supported local currencies over the years.
He claimed that it’s the policymakers who “hate” the ZiG, as shown by their refusal to sell fuel in local currency or accept ZiG for wheat.
Mutisi suggested that these policymakers likely own fuel stations and are involved in wheat farming, which is why they hesitate to accept ZiG in these sectors.
He also recommended that 90% of the people at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) should be fired, saying they can’t be trusted to support the ZiG because they were there during the Gideon Gono and John Mangudya eras, and have repeatedly failed to deliver.
Gono served as the Governor of the RBZ from 2003 to 2013. His tenure was marked by significant economic challenges, including hyperinflation and the introduction of the Zimbabwean dollar redenomination.
Mangudya succeeded Gono and served as the Governor from 2014 to 2024 when he was succeded by the incumbent, John Mushayavanhu.
Mangudya oversaw the introduction of bond notes and the reintroduction of the Zimbabwean dollar. Wrote Mutisi:

1. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) suffers from TOXIC INSTITUTIONAL MEMORY, that’s something needing urgent attention. More than 90% of the people working at the RBZ were there during the Gono era and the Mangudya era. These people have clearly proved to be INCAPABLE, INCOMPETENT, and MANIFESTLY CORRUPT, they can’t be trusted to save the ZiG. Governor Mushayavanhu should be allowed to select a NEW TEAM, RBZ needs that.
2. The ZiG is experiencing two things: Ever increasing supply and ever decreasing demand. This is a recipe for disaster, and that’s what policymakers should be focused on. The simple question that needs an urgent answer is: What will make a Zimbabwean citizen or business ACCEPT the ZiG and KEEP IT??? This is a very simple question but the answer to this question isn’t simple, it involves implementing DRASTIC POLICY CHANGES! It requires courageous policymakers, not the current crop of lazy policymakers who take years even to adjust interest rates. They don’t have what it takes to manage a currency, more so a currency in perpetual competition with the USD.
To slow down (ZiG) money supply growth, the RBZ should increase interest rates. The 20% interest rate introduced at the introduction of ZiG was not well thought out, it was a gamble. The interest rate should be increased.
To increase demand of the ZiG, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and lnvestment Promotion should take the lead. Mthuli Ncube and George Guvamatanga have been enemies of the local currency, their love for the USD is destroying the local currency. IMTT on ZiG should be removed without delay, RBZ should drastically cut bank charges and other transaction fees, businesses should pay tax in ZiG (this will force them to accept the ZiG, keep the ZiG and to look for the ZiG), and the RBZ should introduce higher denominations for the ZiG (without enough ZiG Cash, the USD will fill the gap making it the preferred currency especially in the informal sector). Without making these changes, NOTHING and NO ONE will save the ZiG. It will collapse faster than the ZWL.
3. Introduction of a FREELY FLOATING EXCHANGE RATE will cure a lot of the problems facing the Zimbabwean economy.
Currently, formal businesses HIKED USD prices… they did so because the FORMAL EXCHANGE RATE is not a MARKET DETERMINED EXCHANGE RATE… to hedge against exchange rate losses, formal businesses hiked their USD prices… that pushes customers away and it will lead to the further collapse of the formal economy. The RBZ MUST STOP dictating the exchange rate to anyone, let businesses make their own decisions. If the RBZ wants businesses to use the Official Exchange Rate, then it should ensure that the forex market is FULLY liberalised. Markets always reject COMMANDIST policies, it will NEVER work! In fact, monetary authorities in Zimbabwe should know better.
With a Floating Exchange Rate, more people will be willing to sell their forex and even fuel dealers won’t hesitate to sell fuel in ZiG.
Dr Mangudya spent 10 years trying to dictate the exchange rate to the market AND FAILED. It’s shocking that Dr Mushayavanhu, in his wisdom or lack of it, wants to follow the same approach.
4. Ultimately, the demand for a local currency has to be created BY LAW. The ZiG has no capacity to compete against WELL ESTABLISHED and WELL MANAGED currencies like the USD… it will always lose that contest. This is why smart governments COMPLETELY outlaw the use of foreign currencies for domestic transactions. This automatically creates HUGE demand for the local currency.
In Zimbabwe, the challenge is that policymakers have CONFLICT OF INTEREST. The policymakers are farming wheat (and demanding payment in USD), they own fuel companies (and DEMAND payment in USD). It’s the policymakers who HATE the local currency, ordinary citizens in Zimbabwe have CONSISTENTLY embraced the local currency.

Zimbabwe's Policymakers Are Conflicted And "Hate" ZiG, Says Mutisi

Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei tragically passed away in Kenya on Thursday, four days after being set on fire by her boyfriend, according to medics and Ugandan athletics officials.
Donald Rukare, president of the Uganda Olympic Committee, shared the heartbreaking news on X on Thursday morning. He wrote:

We have learnt of the sad passing on of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei OLY following a vicious attack by her boyfriend. May her gentle soul rest in peace and we strongly condemn violence against women. This was a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete. Her legacy will continue to endure.

According to police, Rebecca Cheptegei’s partner, Dickson Ndiema Marangach, doused her with petrol and set her ablaze on Sunday at her home in Endebess, located in the western county of Trans-Nzoia.
This incident occurred just weeks after the 33-year-old athlete competed in the marathon at the Paris Olympics, where she finished in 44th place.
Cheptegei suffered severe burns covering 80% of her body, as detailed by the acting head of the facility where she was treated.
A nurse at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) reported that she succumbed to her injuries at 5 AM on Thursday.
A medical counsellor at the hospital had indicated on Wednesday that Cheptegei’s condition had deteriorated, leading to a sepsis infection.
Police stated that Marangach had entered Cheptegei’s home on Sunday afternoon while she was at church with her children.
She lived in Endebess with her sister and two daughters, as confirmed by her father, Joseph Cheptegei, to Kenyan media.
The Standard newspaper reported that Cheptegei’s daughters witnessed the horrific attack. The girl, who has not been named, said:

He kicked me while I tried to run to the rescue of my mother. I immediately cried out for help, attracting a neighbour who tried to extinguish the flames with water, but it was not possible.
Marangach was also injured in the incident, sustaining 30 percent burns on his body. His current condition is not known.

A famous Ugandan runner named Rebecca Cheptegei died after her boyfriend set her on fire. She got hurt very badly and could not survive. The boyfriend also got burned in the incident. Rebecca's young daughters saw the whole scary thing happen. The police said the couple often fought. Rebecca was a great athlete and had recently competed in the Olympics. The president of the Uganda Olympic Committee said this was a very sad and terrible thing to happen. Violence against women is wrong and should not happen. Rebecca will be remembered for her running skills.

Ugandan Olympic Athlete Rebecca Cheptegei Dies After Being Set On Fire By Boyfriend

Grade 3 pupils at Lukanyiso Primary School in Mpopoma, Bulawayo, have been attending classes alongside a coffin for the past three years, reported <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/byo-school-forces-grade-3-pupils-to-learn-with-coffin/">The Sunday News</a>.
The coffin was reportedly created by teachers as part of a project three years ago. During a recent visit to the school, local councillor Donaldson Mabuto was alerted by concerned residents who said the presence of a coffin in the classroom was unsettling for learners. Said Mabuto:

This is totally against our moral credentials and for learners to be exposed to the mere sight of a coffin in a classroom when they are learning at a very young age is not proper according to our culture and according to the upbringing of our children in schools.

Speaking to The Sunday News, a concerned parent questioned why the coffin has remained in the classroom and why no action has been taken to remove it. Said the parent:

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) has urged residents living near game parks to refrain from moving about at night due to the risk of wild animal attacks.
This warning follows the tragic death of 47-year-old Scorch Gawa, a resident of Kariba, who was trampled by an elephant in Batonga on Wednesday night.
Reports indicate that Gawa was attacked while returning home after a night of drinking.
Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031640/kariba-man-trampled-to-death-by-elephant">NewsDay</a>, advising that people should avoid travelling at night, as wild animals are also active during those hours. He said:

Yes, we can confirm an incident where a man was trampled to death by an elephant in Kariba. We discourage people from moving at night because animals usually move during the night.

It is estimated that over 200,000 elephants inhabit a conservation area spanning five southern African countries—Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Angola, and Namibia—making the region home to one of the largest elephant populations in the world.
This week, Namibia announced plans to cull 723 wild animals, including 83 elephants, and distribute the meat to people struggling to access food due to the El Niño-induced drought.
The animals to be culled include 30 Hippos, 60 buffalos, 50 impalas, 100 blue Wilderbeast, 300 Zebras, 83 elephants and 100 elands.

Kariba Man Killed By An Elephant, Zimparks Warns Residents To Avoid Night Travel

A Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor in Bulawayo has been granted bail of US$100 after nearly a month in detention.
Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart attended the court proceedings last week to support Councillor Bruce Moyo, who represents Nkulumane Ward 22.
Coltart revealed that Moyo’s legal team had submitted a bail application to the High Court after the magistrate’s court denied his initial request.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Moyo was arrested for allegedly organising an anti-government protest before the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Harare on August 17, 2024.
Moyo was charged with incitement to public violence.
He was represented by Tinashe Runganga of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
As part of his bail conditions, Moyo was ordered to report at Bulawayo Central Police Station once every week.
Moyo is among numerous opposition activists and rights defenders detained by police since June in connection with the summit.
In a separate case, eight of twelve Gokwe villagers arrested approximately two weeks ago for participating in an anti-government demonstration were denied bail on Monday.
Magistrate Honest Musiyiwa ruled against granting bail, citing concerns that the accused might interfere with witnesses.
He also said that one suspect, Gift Chuma, remains at large and that investigations are still ongoing.

A councillor from CCC in Bulawayo named Bruce Moyo was granted bail of US$100 after being in jail for almost a month. He was arrested for allegedly organizing an anti-government protest. The mayor, David Coltart, supported Moyo during the court proceedings. Many opposition activists have been detained by police since June in connection with the protest. Eight villagers from Gokwe were also arrested for a demonstration and were denied bail because of concerns about interfering with witnesses. Investigations are still ongoing in this case.

CCC Councillor, Bruce Moyo, Granted US$100 Bail

Timothy Chiminya, who has proclaimed himself as the rightful King Munhumutapa, has officially notified the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, as well as the Zimbabwe Chiefs Council, that all traditional leaders, including spirit mediums, now fall under his authority.
Chiminya is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with the Ministries of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, and Local Government, who are challenging his claim to the Munhumutapa kingship.
In his argument, Chiminya contends that the ruling ZANU PF party acknowledged him as King Munhumutapa by involving him in performing rituals for the party.
In July 2024, Chiminya presided over the installation of Johnsias Mugomeri as Paramount Chief Goredema in Gokwe, further asserting his self-proclaimed authority.
Most recently, Chiminya has written to Chiefs Council President Khumalo, informing him that all traditional leaders in Zimbabwe now fall under Chiminya’s Munhumutapa kingship.
He has cited a High Court judgment from September 2022 that he claims validates his royal claims. Said Chiminya:

I am writing to inform you about the recent High Court order ruling stating that all the chiefs will now come under King Munhumutapa after the High Court judgment, where Timothy Chiminya (King Muhumutapa) won the case in September 2022.
All chiefs must be accredited by King Munhumutapa and the King will have the final say towards the chiefs, headmen and sabhukus (village heads). All traditions, rituals and spirit mediums must fall under King Munhumutapa.
In the interest of unity, peace and cooperation among all the chiefs in Zimbabwe, we are asking that your office may also cooperate and respect the High Court judgment.
It is important that we work together towards a common goal and put all our differences aside for the greater good of our people.
I urge you to embrace this new arrangement and work with King Munhumutapa towards building a strong and prosperous future for all our people.
</blockquote>
He copied his letter to ZANU PF, the Office of the President and Cabinet and other ministries.
However, when contacted for comment by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200031374/king-munhumutapa-strikes-demands-chiefs-allegiance">NewsDay</a>, the President of the Chiefs’ Council dismissed Chiminya’s directive, scoffing at the self-proclaimed king’s attempt to assert authority over traditional leaders. He said:

The Constitution of Zimbabwe does not have a king’s provision since it has not been amended on such
We do not need to talk to him. It’s just a person enjoying media attention.
I do not see the Constitution amended to that effect to suit his interest in my lifetime. He proclaimed himself as king and it boggles the mind for him to expect us to go to him and say he must rule us.

On August 19, 2024, Chiminya, wrote to the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works demanding payment of his outstanding wages and allowances.
In his letter, Chiminya claimed that the High Court had made a ruling in his favour regarding this matter on September 28, 2022. He stated that to date, he had not received any of the owed payments. He wrote:

I am writing to demand that the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works take immediate action to pay me, Timothy Chiminya, my outstanding wages and allowances as per order case number HC3981/22.
The order was granted in Harare on September 28, 2022. Until now, nothing has been paid yet.
Failure to comply within 14 days from the date you receive this letter will result in us taking further legal action.
</blockquote>
In her judgment, Justice Priscilla Manongwa-Munangati ordered the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works to pay Chiminya his outstanding wages and allowances as the self-proclaimed ‘King Munhumutapa’.
It is worth noting that the historical King Munhumutapa, also known as Mwenemutapa, was a powerful ruler of the Mutapa Empire – a medieval kingdom that existed in what is now modern-day Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
The Mutapa Empire reached its peak in the 15th and 16th centuries but began to decline as the Rozvi Empire, ruled by the Changamire Dynasty, emerged in the region.

Three residents of Karoi—Nigbert Muza (35), Cephas Muza (22), and Joakim Muza (65)—were convicted by a magistrate on charges of obstructing the course of justice.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on May 12, 2024, police officers raided the accused’s homestead to arrest Nyasha Muza, who is facing rape charges.
Upon arrival, the officers stated the purpose of their visit but were attacked by the accused, who snatched the officers’ handcuffs and assaulted them with fists and burning firewood.
The police returned to the homestead on May 17, 2024, and arrested the accused.
Four individuals were brought before the court on this charge, but one was cautioned and discharged due to being 17 years old.
The remaining trio received sentences of 15 months in prison, with 5 months suspended for 5 years, resulting in 10 months of effective imprisonment.

Three people in Karoi were put in jail for stopping police from arresting a man accused of rape. The police went to their home to arrest the rapist but the three people attacked them and tried to stop them. The police came back later and arrested the three of them. One person was let go because they were young. The three people left were sentenced to 15 months in jail, with 5 months suspended for 5 years, so they will spend 10 months in prison.

3 Karoi Residents Jailed For Blocking Police From Arresting Rapist

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor John Mushayavanhu says the central bank does not intend to implement a policy requiring recipients of diaspora remittances to convert their funds into ZiG.
This statement comes in response to RBZ Deputy Director William Mamhimanzi’s earlier comments suggesting that measures might be considered to prevent diaspora remittances from being withdrawn as foreign currency, effectively mandating conversion to ZiG.
Mamhimanzi hinted that the RBZ could take control of the funds sent by relatives abroad, converting foreign currency to ZiG.
However, in a statement released late Friday, following the circulation of Mamhimanzi’s remarks on social media, Mushayavanhu said that there are no plans to forcibly convert remittances into ZiG. He said:

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has noted the circulation of a video on social media whose discussion was focused on strategies for formalization of the informal sector and the resultant concerns from the market regarding misconstrued plans to review the current Diaspora Remittances Policy.
Accordingly, the Reserve Bank wishes to put it on record that there are no plans to introduce a New Diaspora Remittances Policy.
In terms of our current Exchange Control regulations, Diaspora remittances are treated as free funds, which recipients can receive in foreign currency and change freely at their instance and preferred licensed agencies, as is the best practice globally.
For the record, the diaspora remittances have continuously supported the economy, accounting for 17% of the total foreign currency receipts.
Given the importance of remittances in the economy, the Reserve Bank will continue to explore incentives to boost remittance flows and not to hinder such as misconstrued.
The Reserve Bank would like to assure the public and all stakeholders that recipients of diaspora remittances will NOT be FORCED to change their free funds at the point of collection and at any other time.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) said they won't force people to change foreign money sent from abroad to Zimbabwe money. RBZ Deputy Director had hinted at making people convert the money to Zimbabwe money, but the RBZ Governor said no such plans exist. Diaspora remittances are important and make up 17% of all foreign money received. The RBZ wants to support this and not make it difficult for people to receive their money. So, people can still get the foreign money and change it at any place they want to in Zimbabwe.

RBZ Denies Plans To Convert Foreign Currency Remittances Into ZiG

The government of Japan has donated a fertilizer consignment valued at US$4.7 million to Zimbabwe, aimed at assisting approximately 100,000 small-scale farmers across the country.
Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development Vangelis Haritatos received the fertilizer donation on behalf of the Zimbabwean government.
Haritatos said that the donation, which includes 3,860 metric tonnes of ammonium nitrate top dressing and 1,941 metric tonnes of compound D, will support the presidential input support programme that benefits 3.5 million farmers in Zimbabwe. He said (via <a href="https://businesstimes.co.zw/zim-gets-fertilizers-from-japan/">Business Times</a>):

Also speaking at the handover ceremony of fertiliser donation in the capital Harare, Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Shinichi Yamanaka said:

Yamanaka elaborated on the technical assistance his country is providing to enhance Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector, with a particular focus on horticulture and rice farming. He said:

A church building belonging to controversial South African preacher Pastor Mboro, whose real name is Paseka Motsoeneng, was set on fire on Tuesday.
According to <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/southafrica/news/watch-pastor-mboros-church-torched-in-katlehong-20240806">News24</a>, the church, known as Incredible Happenings, located just behind the Katlehong North police station, was also looted shortly before it was set alight.
Several pupils in school uniforms were seen running from the burning church and law enforcement officers were present but did not intervene.
Pastor Mboro was reportedly among four people who were arrested after a group of knife-wielding men intimidated teachers at a Katlehong school on Monday.
According to the Gauteng education department, in a series of shocking videos that have gone viral on social media, Motsoeneng is seen wielding machetes and threatening to attack teachers on the school premises.
<a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-and-courts/pastor-mboro-believed-to-be-among-four-arrested-following-panga-attack-at-katlehong-school-9eb77464-be80-46fa-9b90-2a8563ab9e28">IOL</a> quoted Gauteng provincial education MEC Matome Chiloane, as saying:

Disturbingly, another man is seen grabbing two learners, who were caught in the crossfire of this violent ordeal, while another is wielding an assault rifle.
</blockquote>
The department said that there had been a conflict between two families over the custody of boy learners enrolled at the school, in Grade RR and Grade 2.
It is alleged that the mother of the children passed away in April this year, leading to a dispute between the paternal and maternal sides of the family.
On Monday, the children’s father and the maternal grandmother, who is the alleged guardian of the children, met with the principal separately.
During the meeting, the grandmother reportedly told the principal that a conflict had occurred during a meeting held over the past weekend at the house of the paternal grandfather, that is Pastor Mboro. Reads the statement from the department:

Following this, the deputy principal and some staff members refused to release the children without the grandmother’s permission. This led to the pastor arriving at the school with bodyguards and weapons.
The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon after school when the father of the children came to fetch them, accompanied by two men, one of them being the pastor — who was armed with two pangas while the other carried an assault rifle.
Teachers, acting on the alleged instructions from the grandmother, tried to prevent the father from leaving the school premises with the children.
In response, the pastor brandished a panga threateningly at the teachers, allowing the father to leave with the children.

Explaining himself in the audio recording during a conversation between himself, the police, a ward councillor and the school staff at Katlehong North police station, Mboro said his son had gone to the school to pick up his children but was blocked by teachers.
He also alleged the teachers locked up and beat his son up. He said:

They were throwing stones at my son and while they were kicking him, I ran to fetch the panga.
If you know that your child is locked up and is being beaten, you go fetch a panga because you don’t want your son to use a firearm because once you use a firearm there will be a pointing case. I am ready to die for my son.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed that the four were expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon. Said Kweza:

They are facing a variety of charges including assault, handling a firearm recklessly that could endanger lives and property, rendering security services while not registered, malicious damage to property and intimidation.

Kweza said the replica firearm and the pangas have since been confiscated.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has strongly condemned the arrest of opposition activists and pro-democracy campaigners, saying the ZANU PF-led government’s repression is tarnishing the country’s image.
Chamisa described Zimbabwe as “the sickness of SADC,” criticizing the government’s intolerance of alternative voices, which he deemed a national embarrassment for the country.
Furthermore, Chamisa demanded the immediate release of more than 70 Citizens’ Coalition for Change activists who were arrested in Harare’s Avondale suburb on June 16 while commemorating the Day of the African Child. Chamisa wrote on X:

On Wednesday, four local pro-democracy activists – Namatai Kwekweza, Robson Chere, Samuel Gwenzi, and Vusumuzi Moyo – were reportedly pulled off a Victoria Falls-bound plane at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Following their abduction, the activists were allegedly subjected to torture.
Prominent lawyer and director of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Roselyn Hanzi said:

Perpetrators of torture should be weary of travelling beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. There is universal jurisdiction for torture.

ZANU PF Youth League Political Commissar Taurai Kandishaya has criticised the party’s spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa for saying Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was not ordained successor to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/zanu-pf-youth-league-slams-mutsvangwa-over-chiwenga-diatribe/">ZimLive</a>.
Mutsvangwa was quoted by a weekly publication over the weekend saying there was no pact or agreement between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga for the latter’s ascension to the presidency.
Mutsvangwa also said Mnangagwa does not have the power to unilaterally endorse a preferred candidate to succeed him when his current term expires in 2028. He said:

ZANU PF is not a church where people can be anointed, and the president is not the Pope or the Archbishop of Canterbury who anoints priests
If you think you’re worth it, go and sell yourself to the people. If you clamour for anointment by the president, it means you have failed the litmus test of being a ZANU PF leader.
ZANU PF is not a secret society and there is no secret agreement on succession. People are going to vote for their leaders from the grassroots level.

In an interview with ZBC News on Tuesday, Kandishaya criticized Mutsvangwa for publicly discussing the issue of presidential succession within the ruling party. Said Kandishaya:

We don’t discuss succession with the media in ZANU PF; there are laid down procedures. In fact, in ZANU PF, almost everything that we do is procedural; we have the constitution of the party, we have a code of conduct and we have the ideology of ZANU PF.
So everything that is done in ZANU PF must be found within the four corners of the ideology; the ideology is then supported by the constitution of the party.
So, this is not an issue where one can just be seen or heard out there discussing about it. That’s unprocedural.

On Sunday, July 21, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi refuted the claims, stating that the statement was fabricated by criminals seeking to disturb the country’s peaceful environment and spread disinformation to Zimbabwe’s neighbours. Said Comm. Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has shortlisted five foreign coaches as candidates for the vacant position of the new substantive Warriors head coach. The interviews for this role are set to be conducted this Monday.

ZIFA Set To Interview Candidates For Warriors Head Coach Role

A woman from Kuwadzana Extension, Harare, is reported to have laced her children’s food with poison and then consumed it herself, resulting in the death of two of the children.
According to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/woman-poisons-self-four-kids-two-of-the-kids-die-mother-two-kids-battling-for-life-at-hospital-the-house-in-harare-was-filled-with-smoke/">H-Metro</a>, the woman, identified as Clara Muronda Makechemu, is said to have served the poisoned food to her four children – Ryan (14), Atidaishe (10), Atipashe (8), and Anenyasha (4) – before eating it herself.
Witnesses reported that Clara’s house was filled with smoke from burnt rice, which made it difficult for those who came to try and rescue the family.
A child who had come to see a friend spotted Clara vomiting in the toilet and alerted a relative, David Makachemu, who was outside the house.
When David rushed into the house, he found the children lying unconscious. Tragically, Atidaishe and Atipashe were pronounced dead upon arrival at a local clinic.
Clara and the two remaining children, Anenyasha and Ryan, are currently battling for their lives at Sally Mugabe Hospital.
Speaking to H-Metro, David said the incident took place around 11 AM. He said:

I was seated outside the house when a neighbour’s three-year-old child advised me that someone was vomiting in the house.
I quickly went into the house and proceeded to the room where my brother’s wife, and four children, were.
I noticed that there was some smoke, which was coming from a room, and the door to the room was locked.
I am yet to understand why my brother’s wife tried to commit suicide.
There was a pot of rice on the gas stove, and there was heavy smoke, which had engulfed the whole house.
I sought assistance from the neighbours to evacuate the casualties from the room and ferry them to a clinic.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said:

Police are investigating a sudden death by suffocation where two children died.
Two of the children, and their mother, are admitted at a hospital and their condition has been reported as critical.
Also found was a pot of rice, which had turned blackish in colour, due to burning.

Meanwhile, in a statement posted on the official ZRP X page on Monday evening, the police said they suspect the two children died of suffocation due to the smoke from the burnt rice in the house. Reads the statement:

The victims and their other two siblings aged 14 and 4 as well as their mother were found lying unconscious in a room which was engulfed in smoke.

Harare Woman Allegedly Poisons Herself And Children, Killing Two

UK-based Zimbabwean lawyer, Brighton Mutebuka, says there is a looming “final showdown” between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga over the control of the ruling ZANU PF party and the Zimbabwean government.
Mutebuka, in a post on the social media platform X, has suggested that despite ZANU PF’s denials, there are ongoing power struggles between the two senior political figures.
This comes after President Mnangagwa recently claimed that he is not seeking a third term in office, which Mutebuka believes should not be taken at face value.
The lawyer asserts that Mnangagwa is now racing against time and has to execute a plan to remain in power beyond 2028 within the next 18 months.
The speculation around a power struggle between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga has been the subject of much debate within Zimbabwe’s political landscape. He wrote:

<h2>ED &amp; Chiwenga’s Final Showdown Edges Closer As Brinksmanship Nears Grand Finale!</h2>
1. It’s the worst-kept secret in town. It’s a poorly scripted show. It’s about to take off.
2. It could only have been kept in the shadows for so long.
3. It started with the FAZ-led &amp; ZEC-assisted electoral heist in August 2023.
4. It progressed via the unleashing of a shameless proxy, Tshabangu &amp; his surrogates in decimating the then-only viable political opposition in the then-Chamisa-led CCC.
5. Once that mission had been accomplished, the next natural &amp; logical step was always going to be managing the internal mechanics of ZANU PF.
6. This is the phase that we have now reached – and the most dangerous yet.
7. As previously opined, ED’s path to retaining power is perilous. This is because, at all material times, he has to show his hand.
8. It is he who has to officially &amp; publicly seek &amp; get an endorsement to be ZANU PF’s next presidential candidate.
9. It is he who has to openly command the machinery of the state to overcome the formidable constitutional obstacles in his path.
10. In all this, Chiwenga is the “insurgent”. He will remain inscrutable. He will play the fool, just like ED did while plotting against Bob – biding his time and perfecting his “art” until the moment is ripe.
11. ED’s hand is being forced by his shrinking political clock which dictates the necessity of executing key &amp; calculated political steps to beat the deadline imposed by the expiry of his term in 2028.
12. In actual effect, given where we are now, he has to execute his mission with deadly precision &amp; ruthlessness within the next 18 months or so, if he is to have the chance of seeing it through.
13. I have always argued that the odds are heavily stacked against him. At the very least, constitutionally at least – even with the benefit of Malaba in his corner – the route to his endgame is highly combustible.
14. Then there is the added political intrigue that arises from the inevitable &amp; high-octane pitting of wily deep-state actors on either side in dangerous duels in Zimbabwe’s equivalent of ancient Rome’s Colosseum.
15. The more political scandals tumble out of ED’s political closet – cue the current &amp; previous state capture &amp; corruption scandals – the more ED will be primed to fight to the death given the fear he is likely to have over the potential consequences of a catastrophic loss of power.
16. The duel pits Alpha male against Alpha male. One thing clear from ED’s Mutare speech is that he did not expressly or officially endorse or identify Chiwenga as his successor – this despite the “blood brothers” narrative they have sought to portray over many years.
17. I previously commented that there was something churlish about ED’s Chikomba speech – where he did a roll call of his cabinet &amp; asked it to line up &amp; endorse his 3rd term agenda via chanting his slogan in front of Chiwenga – before holding and hoisting Chiwenga’s hand while bizarrely &amp; needlessly introducing him as Zim’s VP – as if such an introduction was necessary or appropriate – either in that moment or in Chikomba of all places.
18. I consider that roll call to be blood-curdling, reckless, extremely provocative &amp; dangerous to a tee. Brazenly executed in broad daylight in Chiwenga’s home ground, on his own turf, it’s difficult not to interpret it as a crude but powerful attempt at subjugation and projection of untrammelled power.
19. The stream of choreography we are now witnessing, from General Sanyatwe’s reckless utterances to the cacophony of deafening alarm bells from the Bocha VaPostori Passover charade is part of that act of intimidating all internal opponents in ZANU PF.
20. There are also attempts at generating massive goodwill &amp; performance legitimacy from the gullible through a sustained flurry/campaign of public works – such as road repairs, new buildings and other “ED Works”, to generate a sense of indispensability or creation of a messianic complex &amp; justify the 2030 Project, as if another ZANU PF candidate can’t continue on the same trajectory.
21. The more many organs of ZANU PF &amp; state officials join the chorus, the more the 3rd term agenda is presented as a fait accompli – to the likes of Chiwenga, so that they can be psychologically whipped into line to capitulate without any further salvos being fired – thereby achieving another version of a bloodless palace reverse coup!
22. ED’s Mutare Juice speech’s reference to a party-chosen successor as opposed to a carefully scripted Chiwenga coronation dramatically &amp; powerfully demonstrated the fissures in their claimed close relationship.
23. It’s a not-so-subtle lightning rod to ED’s Lieutenants and the politically discerning – the equivalent of Prof Moyo’s then explosive BBC Hardtalk interview when he declared that ED’s then elevation to the state Vice Presidency did not mean that he was a shoo-in Bob’s successor.
24. So we now have our answer to the Mutare Juice speech. ED simply wanted to lure in his ambitious rivals into choppy waters and a false sense of security – while unfurling the old &amp; worn out dictator’s script of pretending to be reluctant &amp; unwilling to stay in power while secretly marshalling their proxies to continue pushing their naked political ambition from behind the scenes!
25. In scenes akin to a deadly game of Russian Roulette, ED has effectively raised the stakes &amp; marked his territory – daring Chiwenga to enter the dungeon &amp; settle their score. At some point, the latter will have to take the plunge, which is when it will become hair raising &amp; cause teeth to gnash! If it previously never was, it’s now immediately clear that the much-vaunted Coup Protocol either never existed or was never taken seriously by ED.
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
ED is going nowhere. Battle lines are now drawn everywhere. In SADC, in ZANU PF and all state institutions. The unfinished business of November 2017 has returned to haunt Zimbabwe.
The showdown is looming. It’s how ED’s political journey was always going to unfold. He was always incapable of giving up power voluntarily.
Had his Mutare speech been sincere, we would have seen a tectonic shift in Zim’s political terrain through the loosening of his grip over party &amp; state affairs, genuine delegation of power/decentralisation and a lowering of the political temperature.
Instead, we have seen the exact opposite! You would think it was ED’s first term. There are so many political scandals engulfing ED as to disincentivise him from vacating the seat of power. One gets the impression that he is committed to rolling the political dice to the bitter end!
Virtually every current political event in Zim seems to be attributable to the intractable succession saga. From mysterious arsons to senseless arrests of political opponents &amp; exceptionally cruel &amp; prolonged denial of bail even to the disabled and infants – such jarring heartlessness &amp; callousness!
We are also increasingly seeing the unusual spectacle of children of high-profile regime officials getting arrested – which heightens the political intrigue involved!
It’s a bumpy road ahead, everyone needs to buckle up &amp; fasten their seatbelts, especially the leading protagonists &amp; those around them!

Mnangagwa, Chiwenga Set For "Final Showdown", Says Mutebuka

President Emmerson Mnangagwa hinted on Thursday, July 4, that the new gold-backed currency, ZiG, would become the sole legal tender before the previously announced 2030 deadline to phase out the current multicurrency system.
This contrasts with Mnangagwa’s announcement in October 2023, when he extended the multicurrency regime by five years until 2030.
That move was seen as an effort to allay growing concerns about looming changes to Zimbabwe’s currency policy.
Speaking in Mutare during the commissioning of a new fruit juice and water processing plant, Mnangagwa indicated that the exclusive use of the ZiG may happen sooner than the 2030 timeline. He said:

In two years, in fact two years is too far off, but there will come a time when our ZiG currency has fully penetrated the market, then I will give a directive that the country will be using the ZiG only.
If you go to the shops to buy with the US dollar, they will refuse it. Even those who were performing and entertaining us today, who were being given US dollar tokens, in two months’ time you (they) will be given the ZiG and no US dollars because that is our currency and we should propel it.
</blockquote>
In his remarks, Mnangagwa also stated that Zimbabwe could not continue relying on the US dollar given the perceived hostility of the United States government towards Zimbabwe. He said:

Biden (US President Joe) does not like us, but you like the money from his country, does that work? So as ZANU PF, we cannot keep using and relying on a currency that belongs to people who do not like us because one day they will try to hamper our efforts, and then we will not have a leg to stand on.
That is why we now have the Zimbabwe Gold currency (ZiG), which is our currency, a currency which we are propelling. We are propelling our currency.

Mnangagwa’s remarks highlight enduring tensions between Zimbabwe and the United States, notably concerning sanctions and other punitive actions imposed by Washington in response to human rights and related matters.
By portraying the US dollar’s use as problematic within this geopolitical context, the president is making a nationalistic argument for Zimbabwe to assert greater monetary sovereignty through the ZiG.
The ZiG is the country’s sixth attempt in the past 15 years to establish a functional local currency.
In response to Mnangagwa’s comments, economist Gift Mugano said there should be clarity on the state of the regulations that extended the multi-currency regime to 2030. He said:

Mnangagwa Says Zimbabwe Could Adopt ZiG As Sole Currency Before 2030

The Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, has been criticised for threatening opposition political parties and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
In a statement released last week, Muswere, who was also the Acting Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, claimed some opposition politicians and CSOs were trying to foment chaos in the country to solicit funds from foreign donors and revive their waning careers.
Muswere has been criticised for his remarks which some people believe undermine fundamental human rights.
Speaking during This Morning on Asakhe, Human Rights Lawyer Arnold Tsunga said Muswere must uphold the fundamental rights and freedoms of Zimbabweans especially the right to freedom of expression. Said Tsunga (via <a href="https://cite.org.zw/minister-muswere-criticised-for-statement-undermining-human-rights/">CITE</a>):

The government has a duty to protect those rights, and the Minister, in particular, because of his dual role, has an added responsibility at the policy level to ensure that Zimbabweans will enjoy these fundamental rights.
The freedom of expression and other fundamental rights, such as association, assembly, movement, and protests, are highlighted by the fact that they are also protected in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution.
When we look at the Bill of Rights, these rights are actually protected through direct access to the Constitutional Court.
The Minister’s statement goes contrary to his obligations as the primary duty bearer to ensure that fundamental rights are enjoyed in terms of the Constitution.

CITE Director Zenzele Ndebele suggested that the statement was likely aimed at ZANU PF factions, including war veterans, who are perceived to be promoting a specific agenda. Said Ndebele:

I believe this statement is addressed internally to ZANU-PF factions. Within ZANU-PF, there is an internal fight, either to extend the President’s term to a third term or to extend the current term to 2030.
In my view, the warning is internal and is probably a warning to those who think certain factions are going to use the war veterans to push for their agendas. The war veterans should be warned that we are after them.

Ndebele argued that the opposition and civil society are currently at their weakest, thus lacking the capacity to incite anarchy. He said:

We used to have very vocal, strong civil society organizations in Zimbabwe, but currently, because of many factors, I think there is fatigue. People are tired; they are playing it safe.
There is the NGO Bill, which is a threat to many civil society organizations, and many people don’t want to be found on the wrong side of the law.
The enemy in Zimbabwe right now, the person or the party capable of causing anarchy, is ZANU-PF itself. They are the only people who can demonstrate against each other because they are not happy with the extension of the term.
They are threatening them with the NGO Bill. Are they talking to the opposition? Which opposition? When, post-2023 election, they hijacked the election.

Muswere’s statement represents the ZANU PF-led government’s latest attempt to delegitimize and discredit any criticism or dissent aimed at its policies by casting aspersions on the motives of opposition figures and CSOs.

Muswere Criticised Over Threats Against Opposition Parties And CSOs

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned that law enforcement agents are prepared to deal with “unruly elements” working with unfriendly States to disturb peace and security ahead of the 44th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit to be held in Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the 377th Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo in Harare on Wednesday, June 26, Mnangagwa said the “Government will not brook any form of mischief” in the country. He said:

I am fully aware that certain unruly elements, in collaboration with our detractors, have activated their perennial tendencies of seeking to disturb our security, peace and prevailing tranquil environment.
They must be warned that my Government will not brook any form of mischief, under whatever pretext. The law will take its course without fear or favour. Hatidi mhesva mukono.
</blockquote>
The warning comes after 79 people linked to the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), including former party senator Jameson Timba, were arrested over a week ago on allegations of participating in a gathering with the intent to promote violence, breaches of peace or bigotry as well as disorderly conduct.
They were arrested on Sunday, 16 June, at Timba’s house in Harare while commemorating the Day of the African Child.
Prosecutors alleged the gathering was for an unlawful demonstration.
The Harare Magistrates’ Court on Friday, June 21, 2024, initially postponed its ruling on the CCC activists’ bail application until Tuesday, June 25, 2024, but then further delayed the decision and rescheduled it for this Thursday.

Mnangagwa Warns Of Crackdown On "Unruly Elements"

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa may take action against cabinet ministers who fail to turn up for Parliament business without giving any explanation, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/ministers-face-disciplinary-action-from-mnangagwa-for-snubbing-parliament/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
Speaking during Wednesday’s Question and Answer session, Mudenda said he had forwarded the names of the ministers “who appear to be constantly absent” from Parliament to Mnangagwa for him to take appropriate action.
Mudenda was responding to Dangamvura MP Prosper Mutseyami (CCC), who had raised the issue of absentee cabinet ministers. He said:

I want to assure you Hon. Mutseyami and the House that I have written to His Excellency the President indicating the rosters of Hon. Ministers who appear to be constantly absent in the House, contrary to Section 107 (2) of the Constitution. I want to believe that His Excellency the President will take the necessary action accordingly.

Cabinet Ministers Face Disciplinary Action For Snubbing Parliament

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL), which is currently on a break, will resume sooner than scheduled following the postponement of the 2024 COSAFA tournament.
On 28 May, PSL Communications and Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare announced that the toplight league will take a break from 01 June and resume on 22 June 2024.
However, following the postponement of the COSAFA tournament, premiership matches will resume on 15 June.
In a statement issued this Thursday, 06 June, Bare said an updated fixture schedule will be circulated soon. Said Bare:
