Former Zimbabwean cricketer and cricket coach Heath Streak is battling cancer, his family has confirmed.
On Saturday, former Minister of Education, David Coltart who is an avid cricket fan, said, in a post on Twitter that Streak was “extremely ill and needs our prayers.”
Sean Williams, a current Zimbabwe cricketer and a close friend of Streak told Cricbuzz on Saturday <a href="https://www.sacricketmag.com/former-zimbabwe-captain-battling-cancer/">said</a>:

Heath has colon and liver cancer (Stage 4). All I know at this stage is Heath’s immediate family was called to go to him in South Africa and I am not sure of any details thereof.
I did message Heath and he did respond but I’m sure at this stage the family will want privacy.
It sounds like the cancer is spreading pretty quickly cause last week he was fishing.
Heath is my mentor and did a lot of good things for a lot of people and basically saved my life and career. We just pray he will be OK.

In a statement, Streak’s family said the former cricketer is undergoing treatment in South Africa and asked for privacy. Reads the statement:

Heath has cancer and is undergoing treatment under one of the most respected oncologists in South Africa.
He remains in good spirits and will continue to fight this disease in a similar vein to that which his opponents faced during his revered days on the cricket field.
The family hopes that you understand and respect their wish for this to remain a private family matter, and thank you for your prayers and good wishes.
There will be no further official statements regarding his health at this time. Any news that becomes public should be regarded as rumour.

Streak played for and captained the Zimbabwe national cricket team and by his statistical record, he is the best bowler to have played for Zimbabwe.
He is the all-time leading wicket-taker for Zimbabwe in Test cricket with 216 wickets and in ODI cricket with 239 wickets.
Streak retired from international cricket in October 2005 to become captain of Warwickshire County Cricket Club having previously played county cricket for Hampshire in the United Kingdom.
In 2021, Streak was banned for eight years after being charged with multiple breaches of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s anti-corruption code.
Streak committed the offences during his role as coach of Zimbabwe and various domestic teams around the world.

Health Streak Battling Cancer

Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a> has commented on the news that the party’s leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> was diagnosed with colon cancer.
A news article circulating on WhatsApp alleged that Chamisa was diagnosed with colon cancer and had sent a prayer request to an Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe church group. The report reads:

‘I greet you all in the name of Jesus Christ….Today my Dr announced to me that tests conducted on me tested positive to colon cancer….I know this challenging journey will be trying times that needs your prayers….l believe in the healing power of our Lord Jesus Christ By his grace I will be healed.’

Responding to the news article, Fadzayi Mahere curtly dismissed it as fake. Writing on Facebook, Mahere said:

The issue of health is very critical for public office holders or aspirants as the constitution states that a sitting president can be removed from office for his or her “inability to perform functions of the office because of physical or mental incapacity.”
The issue was topical during the late former president <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>‘s era. Some said his old age and <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/04/26/my-dad-was-sick-for-a-long-time-robert-junior-mugabe/">poor health</a> made him frail and unfit for the office of the president.

Fadzayi Mahere Dismisses Reports Saying Chamisa Was Diagnosed With Colon Cancer

The Harare magistrates court is today expected to consider how to move forward with the trial of former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Walter Mzembi.
Mzembi, who is said to be admitted at a hospital in South Africa, gravely ill from colon cancer, has failed to appear before the courts on health grounds.
Mzembi’s lawyer, Job Sikhala asked for prayers for his client who he said is very ill. Mzembi, who is facing abuse of office charges is, however, reportedly as fit as a fiddle after a video surfaced last week showing him to be in good condition.
In the video, Mzembi is seen in high spirits, laughing and talking to someone over the phone. A voice speaking in the background is heard warning that those saying Walter is dead will pay for it. Sikhala, however, said that the video was taken from 2010.

Mzembi 'Fakes' Ill-health, Court To Decide On How To Proceed With His Trial

The leader of the opposition MDC-T Morgan Tsvangirai has dismissed reports that he has been given 3 months to live. The veteran opposition leader is currently in South Africa where he is being treated for colon cancer and has appeared frail in his last public appearance. However, Tsvangirai dismissed rumours that he has been given three months to live saying that he is only in South Africa for routine treatment.
Said Tsvangirai on his Twitter account:
<blockquote>It is all speculation. No deadline has been given to me and my family. I am getting routine attention like any other cancer patient and I will be back in Zim shortly. Meanwhile lets all register to vote and those who can attend the alliance rallies. Do not mind the madness.
Thank you for your thoughtful wishes flooding my DM. Love strengthens even the weakest soldier on the darkest path. While we are not progressing at a preferred speed, we are neither stationary nor marching backwards. </blockquote>
Tsvangirai’s brother Manase also said that the MDC-T leader’s health is improving and that he is getting better day by day. Said Manase:
<blockquote>You all know that it is difficult to cope up with an illness in the family but, we are not losing hope because when I visited my brother in South Africa, I noticed a great change as I spent a week in that country.
From my own observation, there is a great improvement considering that he can now make a shave, bath himself, eat well and walk around. You are aware the drugs he is taking are too strong and have side effects that can make him lose strength and at times he can feel nausea but, doctors have assured us that he will be well.</blockquote>

Morgan Tsvangirai Denies Reports That He Was Given 3 Months To Live

In a statement, MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tomborinyoka said the opposition party leader left Zimbabwe for a routine medical check up in South Africa soon after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit.
Said Tomborinyoka:
<blockquote>The President came just as Mr Tsvangirai was about to leave the country for his routine medical check-up. We thank him for his gesture to come and pay a visit to the former Prime Minister of the country.
In the 45-minute closed-door meeting, President Mnangagwa was accompanied by his deputy Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga. The two leaders discussed the current dire situation in the country, the plight of the people and the cash crisis afflicting the country.
They also discussed the urgency of free and fair elections to ensure a return to legitimacy as well as the need to engage the international community so that the country rejoins the family of nations.</blockquote>
Elias Mudzuri will be the acting president of the party.

Tsvangirai Leaves For Medical Check Up In South Africa

A source told The Herald that MDC-T held a crisis meeting on Tuesday to discuss the implications of their leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s health. The meeting which was chaired by vice president Thokozani Khupe.
The source said:
<blockquote>We met as a standing committee crisis meeting yesterday chaired by our vice president Ms Khupe. We were reflecting on how to deal with the absence of our leader, Mr Tsvangirai. We also took stock of how much work has suffered owing to his long absence and how that can be mitigated. We then assigned our three vice presidents to look into various facets that threaten the viability of the party. We were trying to explore ways to cover the gap created by the absence of our leader, considering that we have crucial elections next year. It was really a crisis meeting.</blockquote>
MDC-T spokesperson Mr Obert Gutu confirmed that there was a meeting that discussed Tsvangirai’s health. Said Gutu:
<blockquote>The meeting also noted with satisfaction the fact that president Morgan Tsvangirai continues to recuperate very well and that he will soon be back in office on a full time basis to lead the party machinery as we prepare for the watershed elections to be held in 2018. The meeting also took the opportunity to give a thanksgiving prayer to God the Almighty for the wonderful recovery of our leader, president Morgan Tsvangirai.</blockquote>

MDC-T holds crisis meeting to discuss Tsvangirai's health

MDC Alliance leader Morgan Tsvangirai is back in South Africa where he went for medical care. According to an MDC-T party official who spoke to News24, Tsvangirai is said to be recovering.
Tsvangirai (65) was also flown to South Africa in September for medical treatment before being discharged and returning to Harare in early October. Tsvangirai, a former prime minister in the Government of National Unity, announced last year that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer and had begun chemotherapy.

MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe has appealed to ordinary Zimbabweans to pray for her boss Morgan Tsvangirai who is currently sidelined by illness.
Said Khupe:

MDC Alliance leader Morgan Tsvangirai is expected to chair the coalitions meeting to review the ongoing biometric voter registration process and establish committees to operationalise the opposition coalition.
Speaking to NewsDay, MDC-T spokesman Obert Gutu confirmed Tsvangirai who was on sick leave for a month will chair today’s meeting. He did not reveal the specifics of the meeting. However a source who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Biti is expected to formally sign a memorandum of understanding. Said the source: 
<blockquote>The meeting’s main agenda is filling-in of the 15 committees that will spearhead the implementation and operations of the Alliance. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tendai Biti, is expected to finally formally sign a memorandum of understanding to join the alliance. The meeting will review the progress in biometric voter registration, particularly in urban areas, and look at ways on how it can energise voters in cities and towns and, more particularly, the youths to go and register as voters.</blockquote>

Tsvangirai back from sick leave

MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai cancelled his party’s national standing committee meeting sparking fresh speculation over his health.
An MDC-T official whom spoke to The Herald said that they were told the meeting had been cancelled to a date that is yet to be advised. The MDC-T official said:
<blockquote>We were told that the meeting had been cancelled and we will be advised on when it will be held. Naturally, this has sparked fresh speculation on the president’s health amid fears that he is not yet fit to engage in political activities, but we await the next meeting to see for ourselves his state because only a few have seen him since his return.</blockquote>
When contacted for a comment, MDC-T spokesperson Mr Obert Gutu downplayed the health concerns and said Tsvangirai had other pressing commitments. Said Gutu:
<blockquote>I can confirm that the meeting was cancelled to a later date because he (Mr Tsvangirai) had other commitments. He had other commitments and could not make it to the meeting because it was supposed to start at 10am.</blockquote>

Fresh fears over Tsvangirai's health as he cancels MDC-T national standing committee meeting

Former prime minister and opposition leader <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Morgan_Tsvangirai" target="_blank">Morgan Tsvangirai</a> who is  battling colon cancer received $70 000 from <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe" target="_blank">President Robert Mugabe</a> through the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Office_of_the_President_and_Cabinet" target="_blank">Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC)</a>, to meet his medical bills.  It is understood that the money was apparently collected by his relatives from the government offices.
A source told The Independent that:
<blockquote>When Tsvangirai fell ill a lot of people sympathised with him over the costs of chemotherapy and other medical and travelling costs. The arrangements to help secure US$70 000 were mainly between third parties from Tsvangirai’s side and some senior government officials. After the request was heeded, Tsvangirai’s relatives collected the money.</blockquote>
Tsvangirai himself said:
<blockquote>I cannot confirm that so and so has given me money. I still say that the expenses of my treatment are confidential and I am grateful to whoever has made contributions and continue to make contributions, because this is really expensive and far beyond my capacity to sustain.
… It is an expensive exercise, that is where I think that for other Zimbabweans it’s something that is a sure sign of a death sentence, if you don’t get the help that is necessary and that is timely. It’s something that the state should definitely set as a priority. This issue of cancer is now so prevalent we don’t know whether it’s our food or working conditions.</blockquote>
