President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the Zimbabwean “state house is very far” emphasising that it won’t be easy for the opposition to attain power.
He made the remarks during a ZANU PF rally at Mkhithika Thebe Primary School in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo where he was rallying supporters to vote for the party and Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube who is vying for the Cowdray Park National Assembly seat.
Taking to the podium, Mnangagwa outlined his government’s achievements since taking over from Robert Mugabe. He also highlighted his administration’s plans to develop Bulawayo, including ensuring access to water through the Nyamandlovu Aquifer and the Gwayi-Shangani Dam, which is reportedly 70% complete. He said:

Under the second republic, we have plans to develop Bulawayo. Firstly, we want to make sure there is water.
My first step was the Nyamandlovu Aquifer, my second step is building the Gwayi-Shangani Dam, once that is completed, you will say ‘bye bye’ to water challenges.
The state house is very far. If they [the opposition] go to America, it will be much easier.

The Sivio Institute, an independent policy research organization focused on contributing to Africa’s inclusive socio-economic transformation, has reported that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/SIVIO-BAROMETER-2023_SIVIO_Barometer_dd0db8bfc5.pdf">the government has achieved 56% progress towards fulfilling the 234 promises captured in its 2018 manifesto. </a>
Mnangagwa’s comments come ahead of a heated political contest against opposition leader <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa/">Nelson Chamisa</a>, who narrowly lost to Mnangagwa in the disputed 2018 election. Chamisa has been vocal about the numerous challenges facing Zimbabwe, including a struggling economy, high poverty rates, unemployment, corruption, and human rights abuses. He claims they were created and perpetuated by ZANU PF and he has promised to address these issues if elected.

President Mnangagwa: The State House Is Very Far

The Supreme Court will deliver its judgement at midday on Thursday in the appeal by 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) National Assembly candidates from Bulawayo who are fighting their disqualification from the August 23 poll by the High Court.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere spoke to the media outside court:

The Court has said the matter has been postponed to tomorrow the 3rd of August at 12 noon for judgment so we await the outcome of the court.
</blockquote>
She also expressed concern over the heavy presence of police officers at the court. She said the CCC party continues to call for the will of the people to be respected adding that if ZANU PF believes that it is popular, let it allow a free and fair election. Watch the video below for more:

Disqualification Of 12 CCC Candidates: Supreme Court Will Deliver Judgment On Thursday

A registered voter has filed an application with the Bulawayo High Court to prevent incumbent legislator and ZANU PF candidate Raj Modi from running for Member of Parliament in Bulawayo South. The applicant argues that Modi filed his nomination papers after the 4 PM deadline, contravening the Electoral Act.
<h3>Some context:</h3>
The case comes amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/07/28/2023-elections-zec-says-disqualified-ccc-candidates-submitted-nomination-papers-on-time/">disqualification of 12 parliamentary candidates</a> from the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in Bulawayo. High Court Judge Bongani Ndlovu disqualified the candidates, ruling that they had contravened the Electoral Act by submitting their nomination papers through a police officer on June 21, when the Nomination Court sat.
High Court Judge Nokuthula Moyo delivered the ruling on behalf of Justice Ndlovu, disqualifying the CCC candidates and three other candidates from different political parties. Said Justice Ndlovu said:

We now know that a Police Officer collected the nomination papers from the candidates. The Applicants’ case is that the Respondent (CCC candidates) violated the law. I have also been moved by both sides of the bar, to give Section 46 (7) and (8) of the Act the golden rule of interpretation. The Nomination Court closed at 4 pm. Once it closed it was no longer sitting in open court and by the time the respondents sat before him they were not doing so in open Court. The separation of the papers from the Respondents through the medium of the Police Officer was unlawful. The statute says the candidate or his/her agent must be in court and ready to submit at 4 pm. It does not say that the candidate’s papers alone must be in the courtroom.

The 1st Respondent, therefore, violated the provisions of the electoral Act in that regard as he also did close to midnight when he adjourned to 22 June 2022.

<h3><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/07/28/2023-elections-zec-says-disqualified-ccc-candidates-submitted-nomination-papers-on-time/">Not About Late Submission:</a></h3>
ZEC officers who were assessors of the Nomination Court which sat on the 21st of June 2023 at Tredgold Magistrates Court, testified in court that every candidate on the government gazette, including CCC and ZANU PF candidates, submitted their nomination papers on time. ZEC official, Pretty Gadzikwa, stated that the nomination officer, Mr I. Ncube, announced the court was closing at 4 pm on 21 June and instructed the police to collect all nomination papers from aspiring candidates outside the courtroom. In her affidavit, Gadzikwa added that processing of the nomination papers continued until midnight, with the times shown on the submission form indicating when individual forms were completely processed. She said:

1. On the 21st of June 2023 at 15:55 hrs the Nomination Officer, Mr. I. Ncube announced that the court was about to close at 16:00ho. He went on to instruct the police officer manning the door to collect all Nomination papers from the aspiring candidates who were outside the Courtroom. The Courtroom was very small and could only allow batches of fifteen (15) people at a given time.
2. After collecting all the Nomination forms outside, the police officer brought them before the Nomination officer’s desk. The nomination officer at 1600hrs announced that the court was now closed for new nomination papers to be submitted.
3. Processing all nomination papers on the nomination officer’s desk was done up to midnight when results were announced. The times shown on the form written Submission Form were times when Individual forms were completely Processed.

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/07/28/ccc-appeals-disqualification-of-12-mp-candidates-from-2023-elections/">CCC has since appealed against the High Court decision</a> which means the ruling is suspended until a determination is made by the Supreme Court.

Voter Approaches Courts To Prevent Raj Modi From Running For MP

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a> who leads the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has told his supporters that the new Great Zimbabwe is emerging and is inevitable.
He speaks as Zimbabwe is preparing for harmonised elections scheduled for July 2023.
In recent social media posts, Chamisa, a former Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, urged his supporters to remain focused warning of distractions and decoys. He said:

Be vigilant, too many sideshows around. Do not be distracted. Do not get discouraged or frustrated.
Some are afraid of your right to choose and decide your leaders. Some do not want you to exercise that right. Tell someone! #OnePlusFive #RegisterToVoteNow
No matter what, our time will come! Welcome to a new great Zimbabwe! Everything new. It is possible. It is inevitable. #Godisinit.

Some observers believe that Chamisa was referring to the Constitutional Court application by the opposition MDC led by Douglas Mwonzora when he said there are too many sideshows around. 
Mwonzora’s application seeks the nullification of the delimitation report saying it violates the constitution. He also demanded that election dates must be announced only after the delimitation exercise has been re-done. 
Chamisa is set to contest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa who defeated him in 2018 in a contested election. 
Chamisa has over the years assured his supporters that a great new Zimbabwe is inevitable despite claims that the ruling ZANU PF and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) were conniving to manipulate the electoral process in ZANU PF’s favour.
