<p>President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the British government to return the remains of Chimurenga war heroes for dignified interment.</p>
<p>Among those whose remains are sought are prominent figures from the First Chimurenga, including Mbuya Nehanda, Sekuru Kaguvi, and other leaders of uprisings against colonial rule, such as Chief Makoni Chingaira, Chief Mapondera, and Chief Chinengundu Mashayamombe. The remains are believed to have been taken to Britain as war trophies and are currently used for research.</p>
<p>In 2022, both London’s Natural History Museum and Cambridge University expressed their willingness to cooperate with Zimbabwe in repatriating these human remains.</p>
<p>During his remarks at the funeral of the late hero Jaison William Chezhira Chakaipa Chirinda on Monday, Mnangagwa said the spirits of these late 19th-century anti-colonial heroes will not find peace until their remains are returned and properly buried. Said Mnangagwa:</p>

<p>We remind the British Government and people that the spirits of our heroes will not rest until their remains are repatriated and interred in a dignified manner.</p>
<p>Going forward, we urge the British Government to return the remains of our people to Zimbabwe.</p>

<p>Last week Mnangagwa demanded an apology from the British Government for a century of colonial rule that dispossessed indigenous people of their land and subjected them to various forms of abuse.</p>
<p>He also demanded reparations and restitution for the exploitation of Zimbabwe during the colonial period, which lasted from 1890 to 1980.</p>

Zimbabwe's President, Mnangagwa, wants Britain to give back the remains of important Chimurenga heroes for proper burial. These heroes fought against colonial rule in the past. Some remains are at British museums for research. London's Natural History Museum and Cambridge University are willing to help return the remains. Mnangagwa says the heroes' spirits won't be at peace until they're buried in Zimbabwe. He also asked Britain to say sorry for the harm caused during the colonial period from 1890 to 1980 and give back what was taken.

Mnangagwa Calls For Return Of Chimurenga Heroes' Remains From Britain

<p><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported the discovery of arms of war in Hurungwe where a farmer stumbled upon a box containing 507 rounds of a PKM machine gun.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 14pt;">The ammunition was taken to the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) 23 Combat Group in Magunje. Said police in a statement:</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">On 21/01/21, ZRP Magunje recorded a case of discovery of arms of war at Karenga Village, Chief Dendera, Hurungwe by a farmer (42) who was working on his field with an ox-drawn plough.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">507 rounds of a PKM machine gun were unearthed in a rusty box measuring about 30x25x15 cm in size. Meanwhile, the ammunition was taken to ZNA 23 Combat Group Magunje.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">In October last year, a Gweru farmer stumbled on a plastic bag with three AK47 assault rifles on a plot on the outskirts of Gweru.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">The AK47 rifles were rusty, a sign that shows that they had been hidden underground probably for more than 5 years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">While some wondered if the weapons had been hidden during the liberation war, police sources said there was a possibility that the weapons could have been used and abandoned by armed robbers. </span></p>

Farmer Stumbles Upon Arms Of War While Ploughing

<p>The late nationalist Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo’s brother David Moyo took the time to speak to The Standard and spoke about the sacrifices he made for this country and how he has nothing to show for it.</p>
<p>Speaking to the publication Moyo said he still doesn’t have a decent place to live and he survives on food donated by his family 40 years after the liberation struggle.</p>
<p>Moyo who said he was heartbroken by the situation said:</p>
<blockquote><p>I am still nursing injuries I sustained during the war. I lost my brother Ziyaphapha in the same war.</p>
<p>My heart is broken to realise that after 40 years of independence, I am still crammed in a three-roomed house with one bedroom, which I share with my mother-in-law who is now 90 years old.</p>

Former Top ZIPRA Cadre Wallowing In Poverty 40 Years After The War

<p>Chimurenga music icon Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo will make his final farewell performance at Murombedzi in Zvimba. Mukanya arrived in the country in December from his base in the United States of America.</p>
<p>He is holding a series of peace shows countrywide and will first perform at Club 99 in Lochinvar tonight before heading to Mutongerwa Hotel tomorrow.</p>
<p>On Sunday, Mapfumo will first attend Tuku’s burial before staging his last show of the tour at Guruve Royal Council, where he will perform from 8 pm until 6 am the following day.</p>
<p>Mutongerwa Hotel manager, Margret Mutongerwa who is the organiser of the Mutongerwa show said:</p>
<blockquote><p>We are very happy to be hosting Mukanya on his last show here in Murombedzi and we are inviting everyone to come and watch his last performance.</p>
<p>… Mapfumo will also be performing in Guruve, his home area, to give farewell to his family, friends and relatives. Chiefs will also be there to watch his last performance.</p></blockquote>
