Thirty-one families are facing imminent eviction from a farm in Banket measuring more than 624 hectares to accommodate Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Wurayayi Mhondoro.
According to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/over-30-families-face-eviction-from-farm-to-pave-way-for-chief-zvimba/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, Ben Mutambu and 20 others appeared before a Chinhoyi magistrate last week and were granted US$40 bail each for illegally occupying gazetted land.
On Monday, 12 February, Vitalis Guviro (56) of Plot 8 Lion Kopje farm, Banket was arraigned before Chinhoyi Magistrate Rumbidzai Tshuma charged with contravening Section 3 (1) of the Gazetted Land (Consequential Provisions) Act Chapter 20:28 for refusing to vacate part of the property that now belongs to Chief Zvimba.
Guviro was remanded on bail to 26 February for trial when an application for joinder with co-accused persons will be tendered.
The complainant in the matter is the State represented by lands officer, Wilfred Bika.
Prosecuting, Brighton Machekera alleged that on 06 July 2001, the Government of Zimbabwe acquired and gazetted Lion Kopje farm measuring 624.402 ha in extent.
The farm situated in the Zvimba District was planned by the relevant ministry and initially parcelled out to A1 farmers, who were granted offer letters.
It is further alleged that on 30 June 2010, the farm was changed to an A2 (commercial) farm and all A1 offer letters were withdrawn by the Ministry of Lands, including Plot 8 where Guviro is residing.
The whole of Lion Kopje farm was subsequently allocated to Chief Zvimba who was granted an offer letter in 2012.
It was heard the accused person was served with a withdrawal of land offer and also handed a relocation offer, but he refused to sign it.
This comes as the Government has embarked an exercise dubbed “Operation Order No To Land Barons” to remove people accused of being irregularly settled on State land.
Over the past few weeks, scores of villagers who have been living on the land for the past two decades have been arraigned before the courts for alleged illegal settlement and are now homeless.

Dozens Of Families Face Eviction From Farm To Pave Way For Chief Zvimba

The children of the late <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe">Robert Mugabe</a>, a former president of Zimbabwe, have withdrawn a High Court appeal against a court ruling which barred them from contesting the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/02/cio-operation-in-motion-to-exhume-rebury-mugabe-mawarire/">exhumation of their father’s remains.</a>
Mugabe’s three children <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bona_Mugabe">Bona Mugabe-Mutsahuni</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Robert_Mugabe_Junior">Tinotenda (Robert Jnr)</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chatunga_Mugabe">Bellarmine Chatunga</a> are challenging the traditional court ruling by Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Mhondoro which ordered the exhumation of their late father and confiscation of their livestock.
Chief Zvimba ruled that Mugabe’s remains should be exhumed from their rural home in Zvimba for re-burial at the National Heroes Acre.
Prior to the appeal, Chinhoyi magistrate Ruth Moyo had ruled that Mugabe’s children had no right to appeal against a judgment handed by the traditional court against their mother, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Grace_Mugabe">Grace</a>.
The High Court judges of appeal in May <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/14/exhumation-and-reburial-of-mugabe-bona-tinotenda-bellarmine-win-case/">ruled in favour of Mugabe’s children</a>, who were challenging the exhumation of their father.
Since the magistrate’s ruling in May was already set aside on review, there was apparently nothing to deal with on appeal, hence the High Court on Thursday allowed the withdrawal of the appeal with no order of costs.
Mugabe succumbed to a long illness on September 6, 2019, in Singapore. He was 95. He was buried in Kutama, Zvimba, which is his rural home on September 28, 2019, after weeks of wrangling over his final resting place.

Exhumation Of Mugabe's Remains: Children Withdraw Appeal

An un-licenced police officer has been convicted and fined for negligent driving after he lost control of his speeding vehicle and rammed into a traditional leader’s car.
Nomatter Enock (35), who is at ZRP Camps and Hostels, Chinhoyi, recently appeared before magistrate Langton Ndokera facing two counts of violating the Road Traffic Act chapter 13:11, relating to driving negligently and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
The complainant is the State representing Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Wurayayi Mhondoro.
<a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/un-licenced-police-officer-fined-70000-for-crashing-into-chief-zvimbas-car/">NewZimbabwe.com reports</a> that on the first count, Enock was slapped with a ZW$40 000 fine or 40 days imprisonment.
The police officer was also prohibited from driving any class of motor vehicle within the next 24 months.
On the second count, the accused person was ordered to deposit a $30 000 fine or alternatively spend 30 days in jail.
The State alleged that on September 13, 2020, at around 7:15 pm, Enock was driving a Mazda B25 registration number ACM6016 along the Harare-Chirundu highway towards Chinhoyi.
The court heard that upon approaching the 102-kilometre peg along the said road, the cop lost control of his vehicle and encroached into the right lane of an oncoming Isuzu KB250 being driven by Chief Zvimba.
Enock who was driving at a very high speed failed to navigate the car.
No one was injured in the accident. Both cars sustained moderate damage.

Un-licenced Police Officer Fined For Ramming Into Chief Zvimba's Car

The government has distanced itself from the court process involving one Tinos Manongovere and the children of the late former president Robert Mugabe over the exhumation and reburial of his remains.
A post this evening on the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Twitter handle said neither the government nor President Emmerson Mnangagwa is involved in the matter. The statement read:

Govt has noted the outcome of a court process in Chinhoyi in the matter between the Mugabe siblings v Tynos Manongove.
As neither Government nor HE @edmnangagwa was involved in the said matter, we will await further details on the judgement before making any further comment.
</blockquote>
This comes after a Chinhoyi magistrate on Friday dismissed an appeal by Mugabe’s three children, Tinotenda Robert Jr, Bellarmine Chatunga and Bona against a traditional court ruling ordering the exhumation of the former president Robert Mugabe’s remains.

Tinos Manovengere approached Chief Zvimba seeking to have Mugabe’s widow, Grace, censured for breaking local customs by burying her husband in a manner deemed inappropriate in the courtyard of their rural home in Kutama, Zvimba district.
Mugabe’s three children had appealed with the magistrate court in Chinhoyi stating that the chief had no judicial jurisdiction to interpret legal act from a superior authority.
However, the appeal has been thrown out and it remains to be seen what course of action Mugabe’s children will take following the latest setback.
Mugabe, who died in 2019, had refused to be buried at the National Heroes Acres in Harare over fears that some individuals especially his political opponents might steal his remains and use them in traditional rituals.
Some members of Mugabe’s family accuse President Emmerson Mnangagwa of orchestrating the exhumation.
But Chief Zvimba said he had received numerous complaints from the clan members about the manner in which Mugabe was buried.
The government has since 2019 been building a mausoleum for Mugabe’s remains at the National Heroes Acre.

President Mnangagwa Not Involved In Mugabe Reburial Saga - Govt

A Chinhoyi magistrate on Friday dismissed an appeal by the Mugabe family against a traditional court ruling ordering the exhumation of the former president Robert Mugabe’s remains.
Chief Zvimba early this year ruled that Mugabe’s remains must be exhumed from his rural homestead where he was buried for reburial at the National Heroes Acre in Harare. 
The traditional leader accused Mugabe’s widow, Grace, of breaking local customs by burying her husband in a manner deemed inappropriate in the courtyard of their rural home in Kutama, Zvimba district.
The tribunal court later ordered Grace to give away five cows and two goats for having buried her husband in such a manner. The late strongman’s family is resisting the order.
Mugabe’s three children, Tinotenda Robert Jr, Bellarmine Chatunga and Bona appealed with the magistrate court in Chinhoyi stating that the chief had no judicial jurisdiction to interpret legal act from a superior authority.
However, the appeal has been thrown out and it remains to be seen what course of action Mugabe’s children will take following the latest setback.
According to Jealousy Mawarire, the spokesperson of the National Patriotic Front, a party that was closely linked to Mugabe, no exhumation can be done without the consent of Mugabe’s children. <a href="https://twitter.com/mawarirej/status/1436322865486389251">He tweeted:</a>

Court Dismisses Appeal To Stop Mugabe Reburial

Relatives of the late former President Robert Mugabe said that they have already shared his property following his death in 2019.
Family spokesperson Leo Mugabe told VOA Zimbabwe that it is surprising that Chief Zvimba, in a recent traditional court ruling, said some of the late former president’s belongings have not yet been shared. Said Leo:
<blockquote>We have already shared (his belongings). We’ve done all that. That’s the other responsibility of a nephew, a muzukuru like me. Do you get my point? That’s where I come in, and we did it. It’s done. Finished.
We don’t call these people, anashe (chiefs), distant people, you only call close relatives. I have some clothes that used to be his, that were shared on that particular function (homestead event after his death).</blockquote>
Leo’s remarks come after Chief Zvimba ordered the late former president’s widow, Grace, to account for his property which he said is yet to be disposed of.
The traditional leader also wants Mugabe’s remains to be exhumed from his homestead in Kutama and reburied at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
Leo claimed that Chief Zvimba is not aware that all cultural norms were followed in sharing Mugabe’s property, which includes some farms and clothes. He said:
<blockquote>Immovable (property) … Some of those things were left for his children. So, basically, it’s normal (for that to happen). It’s normal. Movable things, you know clothes and others, you know, they were all shared. We shared all that.</blockquote>
Leo criticised Chief Zvimba who summoned, Grace, to appear before a local traditional court facing charges of illegally burying the late former president.
At the weekend the Karigamombe clan, related to the Mugabes, held a meeting in which they dismissed Chief Zvimba’s order, noting that he was not supposed to summon Grace to the traditional court.
Meanwhile, Grace is currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness in Singapore.

Late Former President Robert Mugabe's Property Was Shared, Says Family

The family of the late former President Robert Mugabe is set to meet over the order by Chief Zvimba that directed the exhumation and reburial of the veteran leader’s remains.
The traditional leader argued that the Mugabe family had committed a taboo by burying Mugabe “in a house,” therefore, his remains must be exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
Mugabe had reportedly refused to be buried at the shrine where most heroes of the liberation struggle are buried with the family saying he was bitter about the way he was removed from office and did not want the people who “betrayed him” to preside over his funeral.
His nephew, Leo Mugabe, who also the family spokesperson confirmed the meeting slated for Zvimba. He said:
<blockquote>_The family will meet over the weekend on a way forward. This is the Karigamombe family, the immediate family._
_The whole thing was pre-planned well in advance. Manongovere is from Chiyangwa’s constituency and a member of DCC. I hope that the government will not be dragged into this madness and accept the chief’s judgement._
_They [the chief and the government] are the ones who were pushing for the Heroes’ Acre and the immediate family was saying ‘No’, we must follow the late president’s wish. They won’t bury him at the Heroes’ Acre._</blockquote>
Leo would not be drawn into disclosing the names of the attendants.
Ironically, in a video article we, Pindula News, posted in 2019, Leo claimed that his uncle “never rejected” burial at the National Heroes Acre.
The bid for the exhumation and reburial of Mugabe was initiated by Tinos Manongovere who claims to be a relative to Mugabe.
He is also a Zanu PF Mashonaland West district coordinating committee (DCC) member, where Chiyangwa is a member of parliament.

Mugabe Family Meets Over Exhumation, Reburial

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana has distanced the government from ongoing efforts to exhume the remains of the late President Robert Mugabe from his rural home in Zvimba for reburial at the National Heroes Acre.
Mangwana said the government was not amused by attempts by family representatives and critics to drag President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration into the matter. Said Mangwana:
<blockquote>It is a very local matter, I am not sure the chief has jurisdiction on who should be buried at the Heroes Acre or not which is a piece of land outside his dominion.
But what I can tell you (please take it as official) is that the government of Zimbabwe has no interest in this matter at all and we are just observing this local matter with annoyance.</blockquote>
This comes after Chief Zvimba summoned Mugabe’s widow, Grace for trial over the latter’s alleged violations of custom to bury her husband in a family courtyard.
The chief fined Grace five beasts and two goats after finding her guilty, in absentia, for the offence.
The late former President’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao, among other former Mugabe allies, say Mnangagwa was keen to secure a traditional, mysterious but powerful “sceptre” believed to have been buried with Mugabe.
Following Mugabe’s death in September 2019, the government made spirited efforts to have his remains interred at the national shrine where a mausoleum was being built in his honour.

Govt 'Annoyed' By Links To Mugabe Reburial Efforts - Mangwana

The former president Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Leo Mugabe vowed the exhumation and reburial of his uncle is “not going to happen”, adding the family will take up the matter with the superior courts.
This comes after Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Mhondoro, ordered Mugabe’s widow, Grace, to exhume the former president’s remains for reburial at the National Heroes Acre.
The controversial trial by Chief Zvimba found the former first lady guilty of violating tradition by burying Mugabe in the courtyard of his rural homestead and fined her five cows and two goats.
Speaking during an interview with VOA Studio 7 on Monday, Leo said the exhumation and reburial were being pushed by the chief and the government but they, as the family, will respect Mugabe’s wishes. He said:
<blockquote>They [the chief and the government] are the ones who were pushing for the Heroes’ Acre and the immediate family was saying ‘No’, we must follow the late president’s wish. They won’t bury him at the Heroes’ Acre.
This case should have gone to the kraal head first. It’s like taking a case to the Supreme Court at the first instance and after the Supreme Court, it won’t go anywhere.
You have to follow the hierarchy of the courts. They should have gone to a kraal head and then to a headman and then Chief Peperere. That could have been the right thing to do.
They didn’t do that. Even if it was the chief to go to, his judgment is not final because there is the Magistrates Court, High Court and the Supreme Court.
If it is a constitutional matter, which we think it is because he has no jurisdiction to handle the case, we would go to the Constitutional Court. This is far from over. We are ready to take him on.</blockquote>
Another Mugabe nephew, Patrick Zhuwao last week accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of pushing the exhumation in the futile belief that Mugabe was buried with a mystic sceptre that would give him commanding authority as a leader.
Leo added that his uncle was a man of faith who would never keep such a thing. He said:
<blockquote>That’s all rumours, there is nothing like that. These are people that are just speculating that he had a tsvimbo. Who would have given it to him?
If he had been given a tsvimbo and they know who gave him, they must go to get another tsvimbo from the same person.
This man was Roman Catholic, was a Christian, and did not believe in all these tsvimbos.</blockquote>
Chief Zvimba tried and convicted Grace in absentia last Thursday as she was said to be in Singapore seeking medical treatment for an unknown ailment. The traditional leader said in his ruling:
<blockquote>I give powers to those empowered at law to exhume the body of the late Robert Mugabe from Kutama and rebury him at the National Heroes’ Acre in Harare at a place shown by his father Chief Chidziva as per our culture.
The father of the deceased, who is Chief Chidziva, and the mother of the deceased, who is Chief Gutu, have all agreed that he be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre.</blockquote>

'Chief Zvimba's Judgement On Mugabe Reburial Not Final'

Exiled former deputy cabinet minister Godfrey Gandawa asserted that Mugabe’s relatives’ seeming paranoia that drove them to secure the former president’s body with multiple concrete blocks now appears well informed.
Gandawa also said Chief Zvimba’s ruling ordering the exhumation and reburial of the late former president Robert Mugabe shows that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is behind the whole process.
Gandawa argued that had the chief acted on his power as a traditional leader, he wouldn’t have ordered the reburial of Mugabe’s remains at the National Heroes Acre but in Kutama. Gandawa <a href="https://twitter.com/DrGGandawa/status/1397072586513817601" rel="noopener" target="_blank">wrote</a> on Twitter:
<blockquote>The seeming paranoia of Mugabe’s family, in securing his body with multiple concrete blocks, now appears well informed as we witness Mnangagwa’s macabre and desperate attempt to take control of Mugabe’s corpse, and whatever they believe it has, two years his death.
Mnangagwa’s actions are an embarrassment to the nation and further reduce our estimation in the eyes of the world.
It is unheard of for a president, via his proxies, to harass the widow of his predecessor in a bid to access his remains for unclear purposes. It is a disgrace.</blockquote>
Speaking to City Press from the Mugabe homestead at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kutama" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kutama Village</a> in Zvimba during the burial in September 2019, Mugabe family spokesperson,<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/09/29/mugabe-feared-his-body-parts-would-be-harvested-for-rituals/" rel="noopener" target="_blank"> Leo Mugabe revealed that Mugabe was buried in a tamper-proof casket.</a> He said:
<blockquote>You know some people have an inclination for rituals. We are afraid that some people are after his body parts or even his whole body and they want to use that for rituals.
… the casket is tamper-proof and there is nothing unusual about that because we are trying to follow his last wishes which he confided to his wife before he passed on; he intimated that there were people who wanted to use his body for rituals.</blockquote>
Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Urayayi Mhondoro, gave an ultimatum until 1 July 2021 by which date both exhumation and reburial should have taken place.

'Burying Mugabe Under Multiple Concrete Blocks Justified'

The family of the late former president Robert Mugabe said it will challenge the ruling by a Zvimba traditional chief to have the late strongman’s remains exhumed and reburied at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Urayayi Mhondoro, gave Mugabe’s widow, Grace, an ultimatum until 1 July 2021 by which date both exhumation and reburial should have taken place.
But in an interview with NewZimbabwe.com on Monday just after the ruling was delivered at Grace’s residence in Harare, Leo Mugabe, the late former president’s nephew said the traditional court’s decision was a legal nullity which they will challenge in court.
Leo argued that Chief Zvimba wants to take the opportunity to charm President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government which had wanted Mugabe’s remains interred at the national shrine. He said:
<blockquote>Why the hullabaloo? He is looking for relevance with the government. He’s wanting to say ‘look government you wanted him buried at the Heroes Acre now here is the opportunity to put his remains there.’
Who is he? He’s not an immediate Mugabe family member, he’s actually very far. I hear others calling him brother (to late ex-president Mugabe) but he is far from being his brother.</blockquote>
Leo added that burying the deceased in the family courtyard is not an unprecedented occurrence in the Zvimba area. He said:
<blockquote>His predecessor, Chief Zvimba Matibiri (Titus)’s grave is in the courtyard of his homestead. He was buried right in front of the kitchen hut, therefore this is not new.</blockquote>
Leo also accused Chief Zvimba of overstepping the bounds of his area of jurisdiction by his involvement in Mugabe’s proposed exhumation and reburial. He said:
<blockquote>To us it’s a ruling by the wrong chief because the chief who is supposed to preside over our Kutama area is Chief Beperere and not Chief Zvimba, he’s got his own area.
We don’t know where he’s getting the powers to over-rule going into another chief’s area and take the case.
We don’t have a paramount chief in terms of the Traditional Leaders’ Act and, therefore, his ruling, as far as we are concerned, does not apply. Even if he tries to implement it, we will fight him in court.</blockquote>
Leo said two grave sites were identified, one at the National Heroes Acre and another at the family’s rural home at Kutama village, with relatives preferring the latter.

Mugabe' Relatives Vow To Challenge Exhumation Ruling

Chief Zvimba has ordered the exhumation of the remains of the late president Robert Mugabe for reburial at the National HHeroes Acre on the 1st July 2021.
Mugabe was buried at his rural home in Zvimba but one of his surviving relatives claims the burial was in violation of cultural rites hence the need to redo it “properly.” The order reads:

The late Robert Gabriel Mugabe’s father and mother, in that order Chief Chidziva and Chief Gutu and regional leader Chimbamauro supported the idea that the deceased be ehumed and reburied where his parents predetermined. As per our culture, no one is allocated a burial site twice. The first place where predetermined by the father of the deceased shall be the the place of burial. The court concurs with Zvimba people’s culture which demands that Robert Gabriel Mugabe be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare as predetermined by his father Chief Chidziva._]

Chief Zvimba Orders Reburial Of Mugabe At Heroes Acre

Former First Lady, Grace Mugabe has been fined five cattle and two goats for violating traditional customs and rites in the burial of her husband, the late ex-president Robert Mugabe, NewZimbabwe.com reports.
Mugabe who died in Singapore in September 2019 was buried in the family rural home’s courtyard at Kutama Village under Paramount Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Urayayi Mhondoro.
Grace was summoned to appear before Chief Zvimba’s traditional court on Thursday at Gonzo Guzha Hall at Murombedzi growth point in Zvimba but snubbed the hearing.
The court venue, Gonzo Guzha Hall, was reportedly teeming with state security personnel, who included armed police officers, police intelligence members, and Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operatives as early as 8 AM on Thursday.
Journalists were chased away and ordered to stay 100 metres away from the venue.
The directive to bar reporters and other unauthorised people from the proceedings came from “higher authority”, security details said.
Although the start of the hearing was scheduled for 9:30 am, proceedings only commenced at around 11 am as the court was waiting for Grace to arrive.
Reports suggest that only 15 people, including four chiefs, were allowed into the court.
Dominic Matibiri, a relative of the Mugabes was also barred by police from joining proceedings.
NewZimbabwe.com later caught up with Matibiri who rubbished the court sitting, arguing Chief Zvimba had an ulterior motive.
Matibiri told the publication that Chief Zvimba was part of the chiefs’ panel that decided on the late former president’s final resting place and should also be fined if the custom was to be followed to the letter and spirit.
He added the whole drama surrounding the push to exhume Mugabe’s remains for reburial had brought shame to the Zvimba chieftainship. Said Matibiri:
<blockquote>When the court rules that Grace should pay cattle, we wonder from whose kraal they will take these beasts.
By summoning her, the chief belittled us as surviving men from our clan who are supposed to answer to such allegations.
He is now doing as he pleases, but what he has done is exposing the chieftainship to ridicule.
We as the Mugabe family hold claim to the Chidziva chieftainship. We are royalty as was Mugabe.</blockquote>

Grace Mugabe Fined 5 Beasts, 2 Goats For 'Violating' Mugabe Burial Rituals

Former Mines and Mining Development Minister, Walter Chidhakwa has denounced Chief Zvimba for his alleged role in the alleged exhumation of the remains of former President Robert Mugabe.
Chidhakwa who is related to the Mugabe family said Chief Zvimba and the plaintiff, Tinos Manongovere’s actions were driven by greed for money.
He made the remarks in an interview with NewZimbabwe after summons attributed to Manongovere which ordered former First Lady Grace Mugabe to attend Chief Zvimba’s court had made rounds on social media. Chidhwakwa said:
<blockquote>
_The chief has lost respect by allowing himself to be dragged into this shameful drama because of the love of money._
_Where does the plaintiff fit in all this? Manongovere is a distant relative of the Mugabe family, as he doesn’t hail from the Chidziva chieftainship where Mugabe hails from._
_If it’s money he wants, he must work and get it instead of getting money by selling the body of the dead. We know who is behind this, Tinos is just a tool to get to Mugabe’s grave which we won’t allow by all means._
_If there is something which was not done right why not summon us? Mai Mugabe (Grace) is just a daughter-in-law in the Gushungo clan. She does not have any say in making decisions on behalf of our family._
_Moreover, the only people who can decide on Mugabe’s remains whether to exhume or not are his biological children, Bellarmine, Bona and Robert Junior and no one else._
_Where was this Tinos when Mugabe was buried and why didn’t he stop the burial then? There was ample time to make the right decisions before we buried him and why didn’t he speak out then?_

Chidakwa said he personally told President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Mugabe’s wish to be buried at his rural home and not at the National Heroes Acre as the State had wished.
Manongovere, who is a cousin to the late former president confirmed approaching the courts but denied being persuaded by anyone to initiate the legal proceedings. He added:
<blockquote>
_At this stage, I will not say much as there has been a lot of lies going around social media and you journalists are spreading lies. I will not answer your questions. You will be answered on what you want to know by coming to court on the date._
</blockquote>
The summons said the court session is set for the 20th of May 2021 at Gonzo Guzha Hall, Murombedzi growth point. Meanwhile, Chief Zvimba has since distanced himself from the summons. More below

Chief Zvimba, Plaintiff, Denounced Over Mugabe Exhumation

Chief Zvimba, born Stanley Mhondoro, Thursday said he has nothing to do with the plot to summon former First Lady Grace Mugabe to a traditional court to force the exhumation of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s remains.
The summons was issued by the officer-in-charge Borrowdale Police Station, a chief inspector, an inspector, an assistant inspector, a messenger from Chief Zvimba’s court identified as Elvis Hundere and Jeremiah Moyo, from the President’s Office.
But speaking to NewsDay yesterday, Chief Zvimba distanced himself from the summons. He said:
<blockquote>I know nothing about this issue (summons). I am hearing it only from inquiries coming from here and there. I know absolutely nothing about that.
I have not seen anything and I have nothing to say about that because I am in the dark. I am not aware of anything.</blockquote>
The summons was inviting Grace to Chief Zvimba’s traditional court to answer to charges of “improperly” burying Mugabe at his Kutama homestead in September 2019.
The government wanted Mugabe to be buried at the National Heroes Acre and was already in the process of building a mausoleum for him, but the family refused to budge and buried him as per “his wish”.
Mugabe’s exiled nephew Patrick Zhuwao accused Mnangagwa of sponsoring the attempt to have his uncle’s remains exhumed “because he has been looking for a sceptre that he believes has the authority to be the leader of Zimbabwe”.
However, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana mocked Mugabe for “being buried” with a sceptre. He tweeted yesterday:
<blockquote>Saka kachikule kakaita zvetsvimbo, tsvimbo yaiva useless paeconomy (so this old man was using a sceptre which failed to solve the country’s economic woes).</blockquote>

Chief Zvimba Disowns Grace Mugabe Summons

The late former President Robert Mugabe’s family says it will not entertain calls to rebury the country’s former strongman.
This comes after a Zvimba traditional leader summoned former First Lady Grace Mugabe to appear before his traditional court on a charge of “improper” burial.
But the Mugabe family spokesperson and nephew to the late feared former ruler, Leo Mugabe, said it was improper to summon Grace since the burial of his uncle was a done and dusted issue. He said:
<blockquote>No one will force us to change even if they come up with many court cases. They can go to hell.
Our position as a family is that we will not entertain this issue. We buried Mugabe and that’s all.
This person who is complaining is not part of the family and we don’t know why he is doing that.
We don’t know why the chief is summoning Grace on his charge sheet. Grace is not a Mugabe, she is an in-law in the family and the decision to bury him was a Mugabe family decision.</blockquote>
Leo vowed that no one would attend the court session and even if the complaint wins the case, no one has the power to force the family to exhume Mugabe for reburial. He said:
<blockquote>In any case, what will happen even if the complainant wins the case? It is an exercise in futility because as far as we are concerned, we are done and nobody can force us and we cannot say he was buried in a house when we all know he was buried in a courtyard.
Had we gone to the National Heroes Acre he was going to be buried in a proper room they call a mausoleum and was the chief going to summon President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa over that?</blockquote>
Chief Zvimba summoned Grace to appear before his court later this month after a ZANU PF official identified as Tinos Manongovere approached the court demanding that she be tried for the “irregular” burial of Mugabe.
Chief Zvimba warned that a ruling will be made even if Grace snubs the summons.
Mugabe, who was deposed by the military in a coup in November 2017, died in September 2019 at a hospital in Singapore. He died a bitter man, according to his nephew Walter Chidhakwa.

The traditional leader said that there was unanimous agreement initially to bury Mugabe at the Heroes Acre with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chatunga_Mugabe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chatunga</a> and Tino expressing satisfaction with the decision. Said the chief:
<blockquote>We are ashamed and we are deeply sorry for the loss that the Government incurred. Sorry for the inconveniences caused by the family.
There were rumours that President Mnangagwa even bribed <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zvimba" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zvimba</a> chiefs but nothing of that sort ever happened. I am pleading with the President to continue being the good man he has always been.</blockquote>
Mugabe was laid to rest at his rural home three weeks after his death. His family had accepted the government’s offer to build a mausoleum for him but had a sudden change of heart.

Chief Zvimba Apologises Over Mugabe Family Heroes Acre Snub

Chief Zvimba said the late former President Robert Mugabe belonged to the Zvimba royal family but was not a chief and will not have a chief’s burial.
The chief also castigated Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwawo, whom he said left Zimbabwe not because he was chased but is a fugitive from justice.
The traditional leader was speaking to State media on the sidelines of a farewell ceremony at Murombedzi Growth Point on Monday. He said:
<blockquote>He was not a chief and the chief’s burial that you are hearing is not the truth.
It’s a strict burial initiated by the Zvimba clan and the Government. We are working together with the Government.
Whatever they want to do, they consult, so there is nothing that is done outside the requirements of the family and Government requirements.
We work together with Government to the logical conclusion of the burial and there is nothing private or fishy about it. We will make the rightful announcements at the right time and there is no speculation.
I believe that Patrick Zhuwao left Zimbabwe after committing an offence. There is nothing that President ED Mnangagwa has done to chase out all those who went into exile, including Patrick Zhuwao.
I can say that the guilty are afraid, ED as President has not expelled anyone from Zimbabwe.</blockquote>

A delegation from the family of the late President Robert Mugabe and their traditional leaders, led by Chief Zvimba met President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday at Munhumutapa Building in Harare on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Secretary – Presidential Communications, George Charamba had this to say:
<blockquote>The delegation appreciated government support from the time of hospitalization and treatment of former President and founding father, Cde Mugabe, right up to the time of his passing on. 
They were thankful especially for government’s arrangements and support in repatriating the remains of the former President which are expected in tomorrow afternoon. 
The Delegation pledged full support to government arrangements and programmes which are being drawn up and executed in close consultation with the family of the late departed.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Mugabe’s remains are expected in Zimbabwe on Wednesday. The body will be accompanied by the late former President’s close relatives, widow Grace Mugabe, and ZANU PF and government officials who include Vice President Kembo Mohadi and former Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi.
