United Kingdom-based dethroned chief, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, won £39 000 through the Postcode Lottery last week.
Ndiweni told <a href="https://cite.org.zw/chief-ndiwenis-christmas-cheer-doubled-with-39000-lottery-win/">CITE</a> that the win came as a surprise to him as he had never played it before and was not expecting to win. He said:
<blockquote>
In the UK we have the National Lottery just like any other country. So you buy a ticket and then you check whether they draw your number on that particular date. The one that I entered is the People’s Postcode Lottery. I had never played it before.
This particular lottery was designed to help the community. So when you play it, you write down your address and you register with them.
You then write down your postcode on the ticket. These tickets are drawn out almost daily.
They may either draw out just your Postcode or several postcodes around your area.
From there that is when they will choose and select to say you have won so many tickets.
As someone who had never played the lottery before, I purchased one ticket for 40 pence.
I didn’t even know how to do it or how to play it. I later received a letter informing me that I had won the Lottery in my area.

The dethroned traditional leader said at first, he didn’t believe he had won the lottery but thought the whole thing was a scam. He said:

I was quite sceptical at first. As I went through the document, I came across a part that required me to send my bank details.
I said to myself, no, this is a scam! I just put the letter aside and forgot about it. It was only after I had gone out to buy groceries that I came across a truck from Postcode Lottery announcing that all those who had won were supposed to report to a certain school to claim their money.
It was only then that I went back home and took that letter and took it to the said school. When I got there they told me that I had played three tickets and the least that one would win for each ticket would be £3 000.
I thought to myself that maybe I had won £9 000 from the three tickets I had played but God had smiled at me and I had won £39 915. I was so elated.

He said the money raised by the Postcode lottery is used to help local schools, clinics and other local projects through various community development projects.
The Postcode Lottery in the United Kingdom is a popular lottery game where participants enter with their postcode. 
Each week, a winning postcode is randomly drawn, and the prize is shared among the individuals living in that specific postcode area.
The prize money can vary and may include cash rewards, cars, vacations, and more.
However, playing the lottery is risky as the odds of winning are usually extremely low, which means one is more likely to lose the money they spend on tickets.

Dethroned Chief Ndiweni Wins £39 000 Through Postcode Lottery

Former Ntabazinduna chief, Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, has predicted that Zimbabweans will flee the country in large numbers if ZANU PF “steals” the August general elections.
Ndiweni who was removed from his position by the Mnangagwa government in 2019 currently lives in the UK. He has been a vocal critic of the ZANU PF government, denouncing maladministration and human rights abuses.
Ndiweni believes that if ZANU PF “steals” the election, around two million Zimbabweans could seek refuge in South Africa, both legally and illegally.
He advocates for the Zimbabwean diaspora to have the right to vote and has been pushing for this since 2019. Ndiweni’s organisation, MyRight2Vote, has also been pushing for political prisoners to be allowed to vote.
He believes that the opposition will win the election this year, but that ZANU PF will attempt to retain power through violence. More than five million Zimbabweans live outside the country, with the majority in South Africa. Ndiweni told NewsDay:

If the ZANU PF government once again steals these elections, we will see about two million Zimbabweans packing their bags and going to South Africa. The biggest movement of people we have seen in the Southern African Development Community in our age. This movement will occur legally and illegally.

Rigging Allegations:
ZANU PF has faced allegations of election rigging and manipulation through violence, intimidation, ballot stuffing, and harassment of opposition supporters. The 2008 presidential election was particularly controversial, with the opposition candidate, Morgan Tsvangirai, withdrawing due to violence. Stakeholders are pushing for reforms for a fair electoral process in the 2023 elections.
Diaspora Vote:
There have been calls from various stakeholders for Zimbabwe to allow diaspora vote. Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, last year <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/30/mudenda-says-zimbabwes-constitution-must-be-amended-to-allow-diaspora-vote/">called for amendments to the Zimbabwean Constitution to allow citizens in the diaspora to vote.</a> Mudenda is the first senior official in the ruling ZANU PF party to push for this agenda, as the party has previously stated that the government had no resources to conduct a diaspora vote. It also stated that it would only consider allowing citizens in the diaspora to vote if Western powers remove the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. 
Migration of Zimbabweans: Diaspora
Many Zimbabweans have left the country due to economic challenges, political instability, and human rights violations, often attributed to the ruling ZANU PF party. The diaspora is estimated at around 5 million, with the majority living in South Africa, the UK, and the USA and the majority of them are assumed to be supporters of the opposition.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa are set to compete for the presidency for the second time, following the 2018 polls in which Mnangagwa narrowly won.
Mnangagwa is expected to announce the election date today.

Ndiweni Predicts Mass Migration Of Zimbabweans "If ZANU PF Steals Election Again"

A Zimbabwean woman, Josephine Siziba, was recently elected councillor on a Labour Party ticket in Benton Ward, in Newcastle, United Kingdom (UK).
Siziba celebrated her victory with a cultural inauguration ceremony presided over by dethroned Ntabazinduna Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni this weekend.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://cite.org.zw/another-zim-woman-elected-ward-councillor-in-the-uk/">CITE</a>, Ndiweni said that the more Zimbabweans are elected to political office around the world, the more the diaspora community will influence Zimbabwe’s domestic politics. He said:

The election of Josephine Siziba is important because it begins a road map that is beneficial to Zimbabwe, in a profound manner.
Such benefits are observed in the election of Rishi Sunak as the first British Prime Minister with an Asian background.
Indeed, the more Zimbabweans are elected to political office all over the world, the more they will influence and change Zimbabwe’s domestic politics.
The last time a black Councillor was elected here was some 48 years ago. Now it was a Zimbabwean woman that had been elected. That is history in the making.

The former chief claimed that there are now over 90 Zimbabweans serving as councillors in various countries, as well as a handful of Members of Parliament. He said:

This is how we raise the profile of Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean diaspora achieving such positions, enables them to bring jobs to Zimbabweans, bring investment to Zimbabwe, bring resources to Zimbabwe, open markets for Zimbabwe, and encourage trade between Zimbabwe and other nations among other benefits.

Siziba had been active in fighting to reduce racism activities as a refugee. In 2016, she appeared in the news participating in a protest in Newcastle against the English Defence League (EDL), a far-right movement.

Zimbabwean Woman Elected Ward Councillor In Britain

Dethroned Ntabazinduna Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should not have been invited to the Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) 2022.
Ndiweni said Mnangagwa’s government has reduced Zimbabwe to a basket case in the region, hence, he should not have been invited to attend the forum.
The AGRF event was attended by various heads of State who included host President Paul Kagame, Mohamed Bazoum (Niger) and Philip Isdor Mpangho (Tanzania).
Ndiweni, who is based in the United Kingdom, also attended the event alongside other dignitaries from the West, among them former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and retired Ivory Coast footballer Didier Drogba. Said Ndiweni:

We note with great regret to see our President Mnangagwa here. We saw him in close proximity today and we were saddened because the government of Zimbabwe has let the people down on many fronts.
When we talk to some organisations that deal with agriculture internationally, on a daily basis, they will have one answer that the current government of Zimbabwe has let the people and region down.
For a country that was known to be the breadbasket of southern Africa not to have a formidable footprint in this conference is telling the world that the country has gone off track.

Ousted Ntabazinduna Chief <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni">Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni</a> recently said the 2023 elections outcome would be ruled illegitimate by the international community if the over five million Zimbabweans in the diaspora are not allowed to vote.
Ndiweni’s remarks came weeks after Speaker of the National Assembly <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jacob_Mudenda">Jacob Mudenda</a> called for the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/30/mudenda-says-zimbabwes-constitution-must-be-amended-to-allow-diaspora-vote/">amendment to the electoral laws to allow for diaspora vote.</a>
His remarks <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/02/its-unbecoming-zanu-pf-responds-to-mudendas-call-for-diaspora-vote/">attracted backlash from the ruling ZANU PF</a> which has for years opposed the diaspora vote saying the country was not equipped to allow those in the diaspora to vote. 
Ndiweni, who is the chairperson of the MyRight2Vote pressure group, based in the United Kingdom, said holding an election without citizens based in foreign lands would render the outcome illegitimate. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/2022/06/pressure-piles-over-diaspora-vote/">NewsDay’s Silas Nkala quotes</a> him as saying:

As a person who has been complaining about diaspora voting, this is a burning issue. It is a human right to be allowed to vote. About 5,5 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora have been denied their right to vote. To make things worse, this human right was promised during the war of liberation by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">ZANU PF</a>, by<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_People%27s_Union"> ZAPU.</a>
So, we have a deep historical basis for demanding this right because wherever we look, this right was given and it has been taken from the Zimbabwean populace in the diaspora. The population in the diaspora is nearly 50% of the voting population in Zimbabwe. This is a formidable percentage.

The Electoral Act only guarantees government employees such as diplomats the right to vote from outside the country through postal votes.
2018 elections observer missions called on the government to facilitate postal voting for every Zimbabwean as guaranteed under section 67 of the Constitution, which guarantees every citizen above the age of 18 the right to vote.

2023 Elections Illegitimate If 5 Million Zimbabweans In Diaspora Aren't Voting - Chief Ndiweni

Ousted <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni">Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni</a> who is based in the United Kingdom, has welcomed a decision by Bulawayo City Council (BCC) to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/14/bulawayo-city-council-names-streets/">name streets in some of its suburbs</a> after Ndebele chiefs, totems and surnames. 
Chief Ndiweni, whose father Chief Khayisa is also set to have a street named after him, described the move as humbling. He said:

As the Ndiweni family, of the Ndiweni clan in Ntabazinduna, we welcome the naming of street names after chiefs in Bulawayo. We applaud the new suggested names, it is a move in the right direction.
It has taken us a great deal of time to arrive at this juncture whereby we are comfortable in who we are, in bringing our heritage, our customs and our traditions to the forefront. It is right and fitting that this is happening in the City of Kings, it can only happen there, this is our heritage, we should not be shy about it and we should not be nervous about it. 
Indeed as the family we are humbled by the BCC and the people of Bulawayo for having had the thought to remember Chief Khayisa Ndiweni. 
Inkosi yiNkosi ngabantu. That is to say, a chief is only a chief because of the people that make them a chief.

<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/14/bulawayo-city-council-names-streets/">The announcement</a> was made by town clerk Christopher Dube who added that street naming will be introduced in suburbs such as Mahatshula, Parklands East Extension, Emhlangeni, Harrisvale, Lochview, Sunninghill, Manningdale, Marvel, Newton, Neqi, Selborne Park, Willsgroove, Buena Vista and Donnington West. 
The names will be based on Nguni chieftaincy surnames and totems. 
Chiefs such as Chief Khayisa, Chief Tshitshi, Chief Nkalakatha, Chief Nyangazonke, Chief Bhidi, Chief Sikhobokhobo, Chief Mabhikwa among others will have streets named after them. 
Ndiweni is currently in the United Kingdom (UK) in self-imposed exile after being persecuted by the Zanu PF regime. 
The renaming of the streets is guided by an 8 August 1990 resolution where the council adopted guidelines for naming of public features including streets.

The elder brother of expelled Chief Ndiweni has accused the former traditional leader of politicising a traditional matter.
He said that the outspoken leader should have sat down with the Matebeleland North Chiefs’ Council and the family to solve the matter but he chose to politicse it by participating at opposition MDC events.
Meanwhile, the expelled leader<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/12/13/trevor-ncube-interviews-chief-ndiweni-speaks-history-of-the-appointment-of-ndiweni-chiefs/"> revealed during “In Conversation With Trevor” show</a> that his case was not unique as even their father, Lobengula and Mzilikazi were not the firstborn sons but they were appointed chiefs.

Outspoken Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna is reported to have pledged land to the MDC led by Nelson Chamisa. The land is said to be for the burial of MDC members who would have died. One Twitter account @MusaKasamba reports that Ndiweni was speaking on the outskirts of Bulawayo has today whilst giving his condolences to the Tsvangirai family. Ndiweni is at loggerheads with the ruling party and government following his invitation of more sanctions on Zimbabwe and his defense of a white farmer who was being dispossessed of his land in Ntabazinduna. He is also being accused of openly supporting the opposition MDC against the constitution of the land.
Analysts have argued that his critics are being senseless as several other chiefs have been openly supporting the ruling party, particularly during election time. They also said that the chief has got a mandate to stand for the oppressed since he is naturally a protector.

Chief Ndiweni Offers Land To MDC To Be Used As Cemetery

A <a href="https://www.dailynews.co.zw/articles/2019/06/06/chief-ndiweni-must-be-sanctioned" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Daily News article</a> has called for the sanctioning of chief Felix Ndiweni who is accused of having violated the constitution. The article quotes the Traditional Leaders Act chapter 29:17 of 1998 which stipulates the duties, responsibilities, limits, and powers of chiefs.
The article further notes that chiefs have to be politically neutral, unable to vote or stand for election. It also notes that the chief normally supports the elected government of the day. Part of the article reads:
<blockquote>Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Felix Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna jumps out of the line to create a serious discourse in the country. In an unprecedented move he has called for violence and support for sanctions. The chief has called for a regime change. This call is not only surprising but not expected from a traditional leader who is supposed to lead by example. Ndiweni represents a rebellious leadership.</blockquote>
The author further says that Ndiweni is setting a wrong precedent in the country by his continued attack on the government. The article also castigates his association with the opposition MDC saying it soiled the image of all other chiefs. The article further reads:
<blockquote>Ndiweni has become a liability to the nation and true to this he is lobbying for more sanctions. His appearance at the MDC A congress speaks volumes of his mental capacity.</blockquote>
Chief Ndiweni’s sympathisers were, however, quick to point out that there have been other chiefs who openly supported ZANU PF and these include Chief Charumbira.

An African Forum for traditional leaders, Sultans, Princes, and Sheiks has condemned attacks perpetrated against Ntabazinduna Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni. The chief recently received threats from ZANU-PF and government officials.
Ndiweni was being attacked for inviting more sanctions on Zimbabwe, defending a white commercial farmer whose land was being given to a black farmer and for castigating president Mnangagwa’s administration.

These remarks come after several other civil society groups and opposition political parties have been supporting the chief.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF has been arguing that traditional leaders, as per the national constitution, must not be involved in politics. Critiques however observed that chiefs in Zimbabwe have always been in politics, supporting the ruling party.

Africa's Forum Of Kings Condemns Attacks On Chief Ndiweni

A NewsDay article has claimed that Zimbabwean chiefs have always meddled in politics. This comes when the country is divided over Chief Ndiweni’s political remarks recently.
The author of the article, Learnmore Zuze who is a legal officer argues that there is ample evidence to support his claim that Zimbabwean chiefs have been involved in politics before chief Ndiweni.
Zuze further said that traditional leaders have been acting contrary to Chapter 15, section 281(2) of the Zimbabwean constitution which stipulates that Traditional leaders must not (a) be members of any political party or in any way participate in partisan politics; (b) act in a partisan manner; (c)further the interests of any political party or cause.
He notes that they have been usually active particularly towards elections where they will be mobilising the electorate to support a certain party. Zuze quotes the Chief’s Council president, Fortune Charumbira who in 2018 said:
<blockquote>We work with government and the ruling Zanu PF. I know people say this should not be said, but that is the truth. We are Zanu PF.</blockquote>
He also recalls the remarks of the late MDC spokesperson, Learnmore Jongwe who in 2000 revealed that a government minister had urged every chief to whip his people into line.
Midlands Provincial Affairs minister Larry Mavima told mourners at the burial of Chief Chirumhanzu that the traditional leader was a dedicated Zanu PF member.
He concluded that although the constitution stipulates that chiefs must not meddle in politics, criticism against Chief Ndiweni is tantamount to modern-day Pharisee behavior.

Zimbabwean Chiefs Have Always Been Politically Active - Analyst

Civil society Organisations and opposition parties have condemned the attacks on Chief Ndiweni by suspected ZANU PF and Central Intelligence Officers on Wednesday.
Chief Ndiweni has already filed a report with the police.
Matabeleland Collective, a grouping of 66 civil society organisations in the region said that it was deeply by the attacks on the chief. The group’s spokesperson Michael Ndiweni said:
<blockquote>The Matabeleland Collective is deeply concerned about the attacks on Chief Ndiweni that threatens his safety and security and calls upon relevant security sectors to ensure that his safety is guaranteed.
We call upon authorities to also ensure that his right to freedom of expression is protected as espoused in the Constitution.
The Collective believes every citizen has a right to express themselves in line with constitutional provisions of freedom of expression, without undue interferences.</blockquote>
MDC provincial spokesperson, Swithern Chirowodza told the Daily News that the attacks on Ndiweni showed that Zanu PF looked down upon the people of Matabeleland.
ZAPU which is led by Dumiso Dabengwa said that the attack shows ZANU PS’s lack of tolerance to criticism. The party spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa also said that ZANU PF uses nepotism and patronage to control traditional leaders. Maphosa also said:
<blockquote>The Ndiweni chieftainship has given government headaches because he does not need to sing for his supper. He has taken the fight to the establishment without fear and in the process earned the affection and respect of his people.</blockquote>

Civil Society Groups & Opposition Parties Condemn Attacks On Chief Ndiweni

The Zimbabwe Daily has reported that Ntabazinduna traditional leader Chief Nhlanhla Ndiweni has filed a report with the police over an attack on himself by suspected ZANU PF and central intelligence officers.
Ndiweni said that he was attacked when he was coming out of the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Courts around 11.30AM. He also said that his attackers demanded his car keys and they did not produce any identification documents. He narrated:
<blockquote>They pushed me to the ground, lifted me, and back down again trying to find the keys, keys which I refused to give to them.</blockquote>

<blockquote>I seized the moment to grab a jerrycan with fuel, jumped onto the back of the vehicle and started pouring the fuel on the car. All the while, I was asking who had a matches so that I burn the car, which to me is not important. That’s when they retreated.</blockquote>
Chief Ndiweni said that he positively identified some of his attackers. He said:
<blockquote>They were very clear that they are from the government. Among the mob accompanying them I saw several people I know, some of them ex-Zanu PF councillors, and one prominent member of the Zanu PF Women’s League from Umguza. I know the woman because she came to my home and stripped. Some of them I know them because they tried to steal drilling rig owned by Umguza Trust.</blockquote>
This attack follows threats he got from Deputy Defence Minister Victor Matemadanda over his invitation of sanctions and criticism of president Mnangagwa.

UPDATE: Attack On Chief Ndiweni By Suspected CIO Agents & ZANU PF

Cite journalist Zenzele Ndebele is reporting that Zanu PF youths have attacked Chief Ndiweni in the Bulawayo CBD. The youths wanted to seize the chief’s car but could not do so as the chief threatened to burn for leaving the scene in a paraffin sped. Below is Zenzele’s tweet.

ZANU PF Youths Attack Chief Ndiweni In The CBD

Ntabazinduna Chief Felix Ndiweni who was recently mocked by deputy defense minister Victor Matemadanda for inviting more sanctions on Zimbabwe has hit back suggesting that the war veteran stalwart is singing for his meal.
Chief Ndiweni wrote on Twitter suggesting that actually, Matemadanda was the real security threat to the general populace. Ndiweni wrote:

Matemadanda warned Chief Ndiweni yesterday saying that he was playing with fire by inviting sanctions and calling for the removal of president Mnangagwa. He also described Ndiweni as an attention seeker who cannot do anything to influence the removal of president Mnangagwa.
Chief Ndiweni, however, got support from various social media users who argued that Matemadanda and ZANU PF never rebuked Chief Council President Fortune Charumbira who unceasingly has been endorsing president Mnangagwa.
The constitution prohibits traditional authorities to participate in politics.

Chief Ndiweni Hits Back At Matemadanda

Chief Nhlanhla Ndiweni of Ntabazinduna has come under fire for his remarks on sanctions.
Chief Ndiweni called for more sanctions from the United States of America and the European Union after the government gave a black farmer land previously occupied by a white farmer.
Pursuant to this, political analysts and politicians castigated Chief Ndiweni’s remarks. Political scientist and the University of Zimbabwe lecturer Professor Sheunesu Mpepereki said Chief Ndiweni’s utterances were not expected from a traditional leader. He said:
<blockquote>It is unfortunate that such utterances are coming from a chief and I respectfully say that is most unfortunate and a downright unpatriotic gesture. I think in any country including America itself and Europe anybody who publicly make such utterances would be charged with treason. Clearly, what Chief Ndiweni has said is an act of treason and coming from someone who is a traditional leader is most unfortunate and regrettable.</blockquote>
Prof Mpepereki also said that the chief should not have called for the sanctions which will cause more suffering to the general populace including his subjects. He also said that the best way to solve disputes was through dialogue.
Victor Matemadanda, Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association secretary-general said that chief Ndiweni’s remarks were symptomatic of a detached relationship he shares with his subjects.
Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Minister Richard Moyo claimed that chief Ndiweni’s attitude is influenced by his prolonged stay in the United Kingdom.

Chief Ndiweni Under Fire For Calling For More Sanctions

MDC president Nelson Chamisa reportedly met with two Matabeleland South chiefs, Chief Vezi Maduna of Filabusi and Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni.
The meeting took place in Harare last Thursday. MDC national chairperson Thabita Khumalo confirmed the meeting to NewZimbabwe.com. She said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that president Chamisa met with Chiefs from Matabeleland.
As you know, chiefs are the custodians of our culture and tradition.
Several issues regarding our culture and the spirit of ubuntu were discussed in the meeting.</blockquote>
Chief Maduna is one of the most vocal critics of the government and he has been consistently calling for the resolution of the emotive Gukurahundi issue.
