Bulawayo Chiefs have reached the finals of the Chibuku Super Cup after beating Black Rhinos 5-4 in a penalty shootout at Mandava Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The match went to a penalty shootout after ending 0-0 in regulation time.
Bulawayo Chiefs assistant coach Thulani Sibanda was excited by the win and told reporters that they will keep dreaming. He said:

It’s a big result for us and just being in the final is awesome. We are happy that we’ve got a chance to end the season with some silverware and we keep dreaming.
</blockquote>
In the other semi-final match also played this Sunday, Herentals College beat FC Platinum 4-3 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1.
Walter Musona scored for FC Platinum in the 31st minute before Herentals equalised in the 89th minute through Mataranyika. The match had to be settled through the penalty lottery.

Bulawayo Chiefs, Herentals Reach Chibuku Super Cup Final

Reigning Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum (FCP) are chasing after a league and cup double this season as they face Herentals in the Chibuku Super Cup semi-final on Sunday.
Pure Platinum Play have won the last three league titles and are top of the table having opened an 11-point gap from Dynamos who are in second place with only four games left.
FCP hosts Herentals at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane while in the other Chibuku Super Cup semi-final, Black Rhinos take on Bulawayo Chiefs.
The Norman Mapeza-coached side beat Herentals 1-0 in a PSL meeting last weekend and will be hoping to overcome the Students to book a spot in the final.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the semi-final match, Mapeza said he is anticipating tougher resistance from Herentals. He said:

Everyone is focused and ready for this match. Everyone knows we are going to play Herentals again this Sunday after our game last weekend.
This is a new ball game altogether. We have different objectives. It’s not going to be easy, but we are keeping the same mentality.
It’s a cup game, and everyone knows what they have to do, so the mentality must change. I like how we won last weekend, there was a mentality of not giving up.
We have to play like this, with a never give up mentality. We have to push because the game is 90 minutes.
There is no need to be cautious. We have to play at our best. It’s going to be an open game because everyone will aim to win. 
This is not a league game, where you might want to salvage a draw. Here we are playing to win. In the league, if you draw it’s okay and a win is a bonus, but this one we go full throttle to win. 
I don’t know if it’s going to be difficult because playing against the same team twice in succession is happening in the Champions League. 
It’s the situation we have at the moment, but at the end of the day, we have to play Herentals again on Sunday.
</blockquote>
Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva pledged to attack from the onset. He said:

We have to keep the attacking plan. We must win. It’s important for us to be in the finals. We fought hard to be at this stage and we must fight again on Sunday then also avoid silly mistakes like that one which cost us the last match. 
It’s a different game with potentially different outcomes. Everyone wants to win but how we play on the day will be important in determining the outcome.

Chibuku Super Cup: Mapeza, Mutiwekuziva Both Pledge Attacking Football

Delta Corporation Zimbabwe Limited on 28 July released its business update for the first quarter that ended on 30 June 2022. Here are the highlights:

<li>Lager Beer: The lager beer volume grew by 19% for the quarter compared to prior year. The volume recovery is underpinned by an improved supply of brands and packs which has benefitted from the injection of returnable glass.</li>
<li>Sorghum Beer: The Sorghum beer volume in Zimbabwe grew by 14% for the quarter compared to prior year, driven by the standard Chibuku (Scud) product.</li>
<li>Sparkling Beverages: The Sparkling Beverages volume grew by 32% for the quarter and continues to recover market share.</li>
<li>Wines and Spirits: The volume at African Distillers Limited (Afdis) grew by 18% for the quarter.</li>
</ul>
Company Secretary F Musinga said Schweppes Holdings Africa Limited recorded a volume growth of 9% for the quarter, which was constrained by a shortage of fruit juices for the flagship Mazoe Orange Crush.
She said the local supply of fruit juices has resumed as the harvesting season commenced in June 2022.
Musinga also said Group revenue grew by 55% for the quarter in inflation-adjusted terms compared to growth of 283% in historical cost terms.
Delta noted that the operating environment in the country remains complex and challenging.
The company said its focus will be on business continuity in the face of rapid policy changes, rising global and local inflation and the uncertainties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delta Records Significant Growth In Beer, Sparkling Beverages Volumes

Dynamos take on Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions FC Platinum in the second Chibuku Super Cup semi-final at the National Sports Stadium this Sunday.
FC Platinum, who are the inaugural Chibuku Super Cup winners, have become the country’s dominant force in the league championship, having won the last three titles.
The match could be watched by up to 20 000 fans after the PSL acceded to pleas by fans and reduced entry charges to US$3 for the cheapest ticket.
A maximum of 20 000 vaccinated fans, which is a third of the stadium’s capacity, are allowed to watch this blockbuster clash.
DeMbare and FCP are meeting for the second time in the Chibuku Super Cup, having last met in a quarter-final duel of the 2015 edition when Dynamos won 7-6 on penalties.
Dynamos went on to reach the final but were beaten 2-1 by Harare City.
Since then, the Harare giants are still searching for their first taste of the Chibuku Super Cup success.
Dynamos coach, Tonderai Ndiraya, who guided the club to the 2015 final before winning it with Ngezi Platinum Stars the following year, has a feeling he could do it again this time around. Said Ndiraya:

We (Dynamos) have not won this cup before and we have a great chance of winning it this year considering the way we have performed so far in the competition.
… It will not be easy though against FC Platinum, but we will do our best to win the match. We are playing an organised and strong team.
They have dominated local football for some time now and have won almost everything on offer, including this Chibuku Cup.
They deserve respect for their achievements. These achievements are motivating us to want to play well and win the game.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum, who will be making a fourth appearance in the Chibuku Super Cup semis, have won the trophy in 2014 before losing to Ngezi Platinum in 2016.
FCP coach Norman Mapeza has experienced players in his squad who include Warriors player Kelvin Madzongwe, Silas Songani, Rahman Kutsanzira, Rainsome Pavari and Rodwell Chinyengetere, but he is worried about Dynamos’ current form. He said:

Our preparations have gone on very well, but as you are aware, we are playing a team that has done well so far in this tournament.
If you look at their statistics, they only conceded two goals in 11 games. So we are playing a very good side.

Winners of this year’s edition will pocket US$75 000, which will be paid in local currency at the prevailing rate.
They will also represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The runners-up will get US$50 000.
The two losing semi-finalists are set to receive US$25 000 each, while those teams that crashed out in the last eight will get US$15 000 each.
Teams that failed to go past the group stage are guaranteed US$7 000.

Ngezi Platinum Stars booked a spot in the 2021 Chibuku Super Cup final after despatching Premiership newboys Cranborne Bullets 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
In-form forward Bruno Mtigo scored his seventh goal of the tournament in the second half.
Following heavy rains that pounded the stadium, the match was played on a water-logged pitch for the remaining 20 minutes.
Cranborne Bullets coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera felt referee Martin Chivandire should have called off the match. He said:
<blockquote>
When it started raining, the pitch became unplayable and I thought the match officials were going to stop the game, but they didn’t.
</blockquote>
His Ngezi counterpart Rodwell Dhlakama equated the last 20 minutes of the match to “a game of water polo”. Said Dhlakama:
<blockquote>
It was very difficult to play the match; it was like we were playing water polo. The ball was not moving, but again it was good for us as we had already scored.
</blockquote>
The platinum miners came into the game as favourites as they were runners-up to Highlanders in the last edition of the tournament in 2019 before the advent of the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19).
Despite the win, Dhlakama admitted Cranborne Bullets gave them a good run for their money. He said:

It was a difficult game, I want to be honest. Cup games are always difficult.
Going into the final for the second year running is something that is very important to me, to the team and to the fans.
</blockquote>
In the other semi-final scheduled for this Sunday, FC Platinum take on Harare giants Dynamos and the winner of the tie will face Ngezi in the final.

Dynamos have been drawn against high-flying FC Platinum while newcomers Cranborne Bullets face dark horses Ngezi Platinum Stars in this year’s Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals.
The draw was conducted in Harare on Monday afternoon, with both the semi-final matches to be played at the National Sports Stadium over the weekend of 20-21 November.
Winners of the Chibuku Super Cup will pocket US$75 000 in prize money to be paid in local currency at the prevailing official rate on the day.
They also get the ticket to represent Zimbabwe in the next CAF Confederation Cup.
Runners-up are set to get US$50 000 and the two losing semi-finalists will each get US$25 000.
The teams that fell in the quarter-finals got US$15 000 while the 10 teams that failed to go past the group stages received US$7 000.
The 2021 Chibuku Super Cup rules and regulations stipulate that the Premier Soccer League (PSL) must pay the prize money within seven days after the end of each stage of the tournament.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has given its 18 clubs five days to ensure that all their players and officials are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as it prepares to reapply for the return of football.
In a communiqué to clubs and the league’s governors, PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele asked all clubs to avail their players’ COVID-19 certificates by the 3rd of August.
Ndebele also asked clubs to update their players’ lists and ensure that the player registration process is completed before the 31st of July. Said Ndebele:

This serves to remind you that the second player transfer window is closing on Saturday 31 July 2021.
Please ensure that the player registration process is completed before the said date.
The next player transfer window is in January 2022. Please let us have your updated players’ lists by Tuesday 3 August 2021.
We further request that you furnish us with copies of all players’ and officials’ COVID-19 vaccination certificates by the above-stated date.

He said the PSL was presently seized with preparing an application through the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) for the commencement of the Castle Lager Premiership.
Ndebele implored clubs to thoroughly prepare their home grounds so that they are ready to host league games.
He warned that clubs that fail to prepare their grounds to meet the required standards may be forced to play home matches at a neutral venue.

Beverages giant, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Delta_Corporation">Delta Beverages</a> is set to unveil a 3 year PSL sponsorship deal worth $75 Million, sources told The Chronicle.
The company’s directors are tight-lipped on the deal that is set to be announced in 2 weeks according to the publication.
A source that spoke to The Chronicle said;
<blockquote>You must remember that the package was, in total, US$5 450 000 in 2017 and it was felt that since we now have our own currency and it’s no longer legal to trade in other currencies, keeping it at that same figure, but then changing it into Zimbabwean currency at the interbank rate of US$1:$15, would be ideal. Barring any last-minute changes, we expect the PSL package to be over $75 million</blockquote>

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Delta_Corporation">Delta beverages</a> reported a massive decline in volumes across all its segments in the 3 months leading to 30 September 2019, The Chronicle reports. This is mainly due to a change in consumer buying patterns hugely affected by the prevailing economic situation.
According to the publication:
<blockquote>Lager beer volumes declined 48 percent compared to the same period last year, sorghum beer volumes declined by 15 percent, while sparkling beverages were down 56 percent.</blockquote>

Delta Volumes Declined An Average Of 40% In 2019's 3rd Quarter

Responding to questions sent through an email by The Herald, yesterday, Delta Corporation (Ltd), corporate affairs executive Mrs Patricia Murambinda said they are facing shortages of raw materials especially for Coca-Cola and Chibuku.
She said the raw materials were imported and the company has accrued debts with suppliers some of whom have since stopped supplying. Said Murambinda:
<blockquote>We advise that the supply of Coca-Cola concentrates and other imported materials remain critical for the business. We were able to pick up a small order of concentrates from the available credit last week with the supplier which we are currently running.</blockquote>

Beer, Coca Cola Shortage Imminent As Delta Faces Raw Material Shortage

Beverage manufacturer Delta Corporation has revealed that it’s working on rebranding its Scud sorghum beer. The company revealed that volume of Scud sales had gone down by 5 percent in the previous year while volumes for Chibuku Super had gone up by 9 percent.
Chief executive, Pearson Gowero told shareholders,
<blockquote>Before end of the current financial year, the Group will introduce a new packaging of the scud to a returnable container which is in support of revenue growth strategy.</blockquote>
He also told shareholders that Chibuku Breweries have also been rationalised to 8 from 15 as the company now look to leverage on the expanded Chibuku Super capacity.
