A 56-year-old security guard allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in Checheche after discovering that his wife was having extra-marital affairs.
Johane Chiweshe from Dambamuromo Village in Chipinge South committed suicide recently after making several suicide attempts before.
ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, confirmed the incident which happened in Checheche on 07 March 2023. He said:

The now-late Johane Chiweshe who was employed as a security guard was on duty when the incident happened. He was armed with a 303 riffle.
His workmate, Munyaradzi Gorivoto heard a gunshot around midnight and called out Chiweshe who did not respond. He alerted their superior, Enock Musasike, and he rushed to the scene.
The two searched around the company premises and discovered that Chiweshe was already dead. His body was found lying facing upwards with blood oozing from his head.
A report was made to the police who attended the scene and observed a gunshot wound on Chiweshe’s head.
The 303 riffle was also discovered near Chiweshe’s hand with a magazine containing seven rounds.
An empty cartridge was also discovered at the scene and the body was conveyed to St Peter’s Mission Hospital mortuary.
Inquiries done indicate that Chiweshe had attempted suicide many times before.

Chiweshe’s neighbour who spoke to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/guard-shoots-self-over-wifes-infidelity/">The Manica Post</a> claimed that the now-deceased had accused his wife of infidelity several times. Said the neighbour:

Chiweshe accused his wife of infidelity several times. Their relationship was an on-and-off affair. His church members would intervene whenever the couple had a misunderstanding and they would reconcile.
However, Chiweshe always told church members that his wife had not reformed from her old habits and because of this, he would end his life. He made several suicide attempts before.
We don’t know why his employers gave him a gun at work as he had suicidal tendencies.

Chiweshe was buried in Dambamuromo Village on 11 March.

Security Guard Shoots Self Over Wife’s Extra-marital Affairs

A 13-year-old boy from Checheche narrowly escaped death after he was attacked by a crocodile recently while crossing Save River with his friends.
Danmore Gwenzi fought the reptile with bare hands after it had grabbed his thigh.
He poked his hand into the mouth of the crocodile and it let loose its grip but removed a chunk of his flesh.
His friends ran away and alerted villagers who then rushed to the scene where they found Danmore on the riverbank.
The teenager was rushed to St Peter’s Hospital in Chisumbanje where he was admitted.
Danmore and his mother spoke to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/boy-13-fights-crocodile/">The Manica Post</a> about the attack. The boy said:

We were crossing the Save River with my friends. The water was ankle high and we thought no crocodiles would be lurking there.
As we were about to reach the riverbank, the crocodile suddenly latched on me. It grabbed me on the thigh and I gathered some courage and poked my hand into its mouth.
The crocodile loosened its grip and I managed to wobble to safety. Other villagers then came to my rescue.

His mother Marita Gwenzi said they were struggling with paying the hospital bills. She said:

My son had a brush with death. I am happy he managed to survive. Danmore needs to be stitched and have a skin graft on his thigh. However, we are struggling to pay the bills.
</blockquote>
Last week, Cabinet adopted the establishment of a relief fund to cushion victims of human-wildlife conflicts but it is not clear if the Fund is now operational.

Boy (13) Fights Crocodile In Save River

The driver of a hearse transporting a corpse for burial in Checheche, Chipinge was killed when he lost control of the vehicle before it crashed.
Stephan Gwatidzo, who was on his way from Shamva, was driving the hearse when it veered off the road along Ngundu-Tanganda Road near Nyautsa River in Middle Sabi around 3 AM on Sunday.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) acting spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the accident. He said:

The driver of the hearse, Mr Stephan Gwatidzo of Harare, was driving a Toyota Hilux truck along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road carrying a corpse. He was heading to Checheche for the burial of the deceased.
Upon reaching the 245km peg, he lost control of the vehicle and it swerved to the right before overturning.
Mr Gwatidzo was thrown out of the vehicle, sustained head injuries and died on the spot. 
The body that was being transported did not sustain any injuries and was later taken to Chanda Village for burial.
We continue to urge motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads by adhering to road traffic rules.

Last month another hearse carrying a Honde Valley man, Caleb Mapaya, was involved in an accident that left his corpse defaced.
Mapaya’s coffin was thrown out of the hearse and broken into pieces, leaving the corpse laying on the ground.
His widow, Cecilia Chingaya-Mapaya who was seated next to the driver of the hearse, was thrown out of the vehicle and seriously injured and later passed away at Hauna District Hospital where she had been taken to.

Hearse Carrying Corpse Crashes, Kills Driver

9 people died in an accident involving a Greenfuel sugar cane haulage truck and a commuter omnibus at Chimambo rural business centre, about four kilometers from Checheche growth point in Chipinge, Manicaland Province.
8 others were critically injured when the haulage truck had a head on collision with the omnibus. The haulage truck was coming from Middle Sabi and tried to overtake another truck from the same company, resulting in a head on collision with a Nissan Caravan omnibus.
The 8 injured have been referred to Chiredzi while it took about three hours to remove the trapped bodies of the Nissan Caravan driver and a passenger in the front seat. Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police details are attending the scene and preliminary findings indicate that 9 people died on the spot. Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said although the details are still sketchy, the kombi was carrying 17 passengers despite being authorised to carry 15 passengers.
