Promise Mkanwanzi, the spokesperson of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has denied allegations made by journalist Hopewell Chin’ono that he is working with the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to destabilise the opposition in Zimbabwe. Chin’ono had claimed:

There is nothing dangerous in stating facts, Promise is working with CIO. He made promises to them about what he can deliver by December and they told him what they can deliver. The opposition is meant to be docile and allow the regime to get on with its work, then they will let it do opposition work after 2027. Let him come here and deny it if I am lying! It is either you know what is happening and you support it, or you know nothing in which case you must shut up! You want to waste people’s time thinking that they are supporting a viable opposition when it is captured! Let him come and deny it here, let him come and say that Hopewell is lying!
</blockquote>
In response, Mkanwanzi stated that he has never associated with any state organ and dismissed the accusations as lies and falsehoods. Mkanwanzi said that he had no standing arrest warrant at the time he was allegedly targeted by the police. He explained that he had cleared all his legal cases in 2020 after being wrongfully arrested in 2019. He said:

Please disregard the lies and falsehoods being spread by Hopewell and his cabal formerly with us. I am not and have never had any associations with CIO or any organ of the state. At the time of my purported bounty by the police, I had no single standing warrant of arrest. I had cleared all my cases in 2020 after my last wrongful arrest in 2019. Late last year, I was pursued by the hit squad in the company of our information officer Sir Tongie. The hit squad had live ammunition and gave us a movie-style chase until we ran into our party offices where they confiscated my car. Thanks to our party security details who saved our lives. Since August 2023, I have never returned to my original home, moving from one sanctuary to the next for safety. After our candidate selection process, just before the announcement of our candidates, I had a very candid discussion with President @nelsonchamisa who expressed disappointment at my performance in the candidate selection process. He stated that he had expected more from me and that I was one of the people he had earmarked for ministerial role. I conceded to the President that the process had not gone as I had hoped. In the aftermath of the announcement of the final list of candidates, I called President @nelsonchamisa and informed him that I had seen the final list of candidates and that I was not on the list. I told the President that I accepted the outcome and that I was 100% available to join the Presidential campaign team as I now had all the time (other than my businesses) to help in the Presidential campaign. A few weeks later President Chamisa called to inform me that he wanted me to speak on behalf of the party. The task was with immediate effect. I obliged and have not and will never look back. President Chamisa has been my leader, my mentor and my brother. I first knew of Chamisa when he became founding youth leader in the MDC in 1999, seeing him on TV and newspapers. Due to the fact that I had gone to Nyaradzo Secondary school, the same school where Learnmore Jongwe did his O levels and was praised as an example of a success story from a remote school, I had developed a keen interest in politics. I would eventually meet President Chamisa in person years later as a student leader interacting with the then youth Chairperson of the MDC. We developed a strong relationship culminating into the time when he was organising secretary and I was the youth secretary general of the MDC. It is at this time that we worked and developed close ties as youth was an organ of the organising department. Several times I accompanied President Chamiss to various meetings locally regionally and internationally, including to his rural home. Even when I was summarily kicked out of the party, it is President Chamisa that reappointed me into the NEC in 2021 and to be the Spokesperson in 2023 and various other tasks behind the scenes. It is in this context that I write to dispel the fake rumours that seek to create a rift between me and my leader. I will never betray or forsake President Chamisa and I have repeatedly made this pledge before him and now before all of you. Ours is to fight those who fight Chamisa and to defend the democratic struggle until final victory. In the coming days, months or even years, we will continue to fight to ensure that President Chamisa is restored and protected as the legitimate and rightful leader of the democratic movement in Zimbabwe. Let’s remain focused on the goal. We are closer now than ever before. I smell tectonic shifts in Zimbabwe’s political landscape in the not-so-distant future. Change has come!

The rumours began when Mkwananzi wrote a letter to Parliament stating that he was the acting president of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) after Nelson Chamisa’s departure. Mkwananzi claimed that he was working to bring Chamisa back to the party. Chamisa resigned on January 24, 2024, citing the infiltration and hijacking of the CCC by the ruling party ZANU PF and its allies within the CCC.
Chamisa, instead of attempting to “save” the CCC as Mkwananzi desires, has expressed his intention to establish a new political movement. It is anticipated that those who genuinely support Chamisa are considering leaving the CCC and joining him in his new endeavour.

Promise Mkwananzi: Disregard The Lies And Falsehoods Being Spread By Hopewell

A woman from<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chinhoyi/"> Chinhoyi</a>, who worked as a radio presenter at Platinum FM, has been arrested for pretending to be a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation_(CIO)/">Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO)</a> agent. According to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/radio-dj-arrested-for-posing-as-cio-operative">The Sunday Mail</a>, Thandeka Chitombo, also known as Ndekah-T on air, was taken into custody on Friday and charged with impersonating a public officer.
It has been revealed that she falsely claimed to be a member of the ZANU PF Central Committee, and she was found in possession of counterfeit identity cards that identified her as a high-ranking member of the ruling party. Chitombo appeared in court before a magistrate in Chinhoyi and has been remanded in custody until her next hearing, which is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday 5 February 2024).
The complainant in the case is Davis Mugadza, the station manager at Platinum FM, which is owned by Zimpapers. According to the prosecution, Chitombo initially approached Mugadza in October 2023, expressing her willingness to work as a presenter. Later, she presented credentials that claimed she was affiliated with the CIO and had been assigned to the radio station for an intelligence task.
Mugadza contacted the CIO’s offices in Chinhoyi to verify her claims, and they requested time to investigate. On Thursday, the CIO team contacted Mugadza and disowned Chitombo. Mugadza then reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused at the radio station’s studios on Friday.
During a search of her residence in the Ruvimbo high-density suburb, a fake diplomatic identification card and two counterfeit ZANU PF identification cards were discovered. These fake cards falsely represented her as a Central Committee member for Mashonaland West and Central provinces.
The investigation is ongoing, and Chitombo will face legal consequences for her alleged impersonation and possession of counterfeit identification documents.

Radio Presenter Arrested For Impersonating CIO And False ZANU PF Membership

George Madziva, a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation_(CIO)/">Central Intelligence Operation</a> agent believed to be the kingpin in the underground network involved in the smuggling of vehicles into the country was arrested last week. It is believed that Madziva, who is well-connected, played a key role in the smuggling of vehicles into the country by providing number plates stolen from the Office of the President and Cabinet in Zimbabwe,<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200018467/cio-car-smuggling-racket-deepens"> NewsDay</a> reported citing court papers. He appeared in court and was granted US$800 bail along with his accomplice, Godfrey Bvenura.
According to court documents, Madziva works in the research and development unit of the President’s Department in Harare. He, together with Bvenura and another individual named Simba, who is still at large, submitted a fraudulent application to the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR). They falsely claimed that the President’s Department needed registration documents and plates for a Renault Duster vehicle, pretending that it belonged to the department. 
The CVR processed the application based on the misrepresentation, but the deputy registrar became suspicious upon discovering that someone else had also applied for plates on behalf of the President’s Department. The police and the President’s Department were informed of the situation.
On October 11, Madziva and Bvenura went to the CVR to collect the registration book and plates but were unable to do so as the deputy registrar was unavailable. The following day, Bvenura was arrested while attempting to receive the registration materials, while Madziva managed to escape.
Several members of the President’s Department have previously been arrested for similar offences. Another State security agent, Tatenda Dzapasi, an aide to Vice President Kembo Mohadi, has also faced similar allegations and was granted bail.

CIO Agent Leading A Vehicle Smuggling Syndicate Arrested

Thirty (30) students at Chemhanza High School in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Wedza/">Hwedza</a>, Mashonaland East province, were expelled following allegations of bullying and physical fighting. The incident involved the severe assault of a Form 3 student, said to be the daughter of a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation_(CIO)/">Central Intelligence (CIO)</a> operative.
The incident occurred on September 17, and the school authorities initially suspended the students involved. A concerned parent discovered her sibling fleeing from a dormitory and learned that Form 4 students were assaulting younger students. She took them to her room for safety. However, she and other students were expelled on allegations of beating up the Form 3 student. The parent claimed that the student’s perceived connection to a CIO operative made her untouchable.
According to reports and voice notes shared with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200017137/chemhanza-expels-30-pupils-over-violence">NewsDay</a>, disgruntled parents expressed shock at the school’s decision to expel some Form 4 and 6 students who were preparing for their final exams. A parent said one of the children saw her sibling fleeing a Forms 1 and 2 dormitory through a window. The parent said:

On making inquiries, she was informed that Form 4 pupils were beating up juniors and she then took the initiative to take them to her room for safety.
However, she was expelled with other pupils on allegations that they beat up a Form 3 pupil (name supplied). She is said to be a daughter of a CIO (operative) and she is untouchable.
Since Sunday, they have not been given food and have not been allowed into the study area, are not attending lessons and when we were finally alerted as parents, we went to the school to hear the story in full.

Parents criticised the school authorities for not recording the students’ statements and accused them of bias. Said one of the parents:

There was no fairness in asking the children about what transpired. They were being asked leading questions about what they wanted to achieve.

Another parent said they were given random minutes from the hearing conducted by the headmaster and the District Schools Inspector. Said the parent:

The headmaster was accompanied by the district schools inspector for Hwedza, Mr Parani, and he is the one who gave the instruction that we go back home with our children.

Violence in Zimbabwean schools, including bullying, physical fights, and assaults, is a serious concern. Physical fights and assaults happen due to personal disputes, gang-related activities, or other factors within school premises. In February this year, a Form Four student from Founders High School in Bulawayo <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/02/14/form-4-student-stabbed-in-gang-related-violence/">was fatally stabbed</a> by a 16-year-old pupil from Hamilton High School during a gang-related altercation. The victim confronted the attacker after he had beaten up his friend, leading to a fight between students from both schools. The deceased, identified as 16-year-old Wayne Ndlovu, was stabbed in the neck.

Chemhanza High School Has Expelled 30 Students Following Allegations Of Bullying

ZANU PF polling agents in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gutu/">Gutu</a> have allegedly received their allowances from the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation_(CIO)">Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO)</a> offices at Mpandawana. This suggests a close connection between the ruling party and State entities in the 2023 election project. 
Analysts interviewed by The Mirror stated that this incident is not surprising as there seems to be a strong association between State entities and ZANU PF, blurring the lines between the party and the State.
Mirror reporters visited the CIO offices near Gutu Police Station after receiving public reports. They found numerous polling agents and some Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) members from four Gutu constituencies gathered there namely Gutu Central, South, East, and West.
When contacted for comment, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Isaac_Moyo/">Isaac Moyo</a>, the CIO Director General, denied knowledge of the situation, stating, “I have no knowledge of it,” before ending the call. One of the agents confirmed to The Mirror:

We received our allowances from these offices a few days after the elections. Today, we were called on short notice and told to sign papers to confirm the receipts because there are allegations that some of us were shortchanged and did not receive the money.
</blockquote>
The agents were disappointed as they were called to the CIO offices but not given money for transportation or food.
Opposition parties, particularly the CCC, have raised concerns about the CIO’s influence on the elections through a group called FAZ. It is alleged that FAZ controlled the Zimbabwe Electoral Authority (ZEC) and manipulated the elections in Gutu District. Presiding officers, including Teachers4ED members, were accused of manipulating results and harassing CCC representatives. The international community declined to endorse the elections due to the perceived closeness between the State and ZANU PF, suggesting that the ruling party had significant control. The involvement of the CIO in financial transactions on behalf of a political party was deemed inappropriate by Wilfred Mandinde of the Zimbabwe NGO Forum. Mandinde declared:

We have seen arms of the State acting like paramilitaries of Zanu-PF. This has to stop.

According to reports, ZANU PF’s chief agents received US$200 in allowances, while roving agents received US$160, and ordinary agents received US$120. ZANU PF had previously claimed to have millions of dollars for the elections.
In Gutu District, there were reports of widespread harassment by FAZ operatives, resulting in numerous opposition supporters being imprisoned and required to pay substantial fines for minor altercations. Ephraim Murudu, a CCC candidate in Gutu West and a war veteran, was allegedly fined US$300, which had to be paid immediately, following an incident involving a FAZ member.

ZANU PF Polling Agents Allegedly Received Allowances From CIO Offices

A Zimbabwean woman recently shared her harrowing experience of being robbed in broad daylight by a gang consisting of two women wearing police uniforms and two men, one of whom posed as a member of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO). The incident happened when the woman was driving home at approximately 4:00 PM. She became aware that a car was following her, so she skipped going home and instead drove straight to the police station.
The robbers, however, realised that she had seen them and gave chase. They intercepted her at a roundabout, forcibly removing her from the vehicle and claiming that her husband had sent them due to suspicions of infidelity. She said this confused her as she had been with her husband just moments before. She discreetly called her husband, who informed her that she was being robbed. In the ensuing commotion, the robbers stole $1000 from her.
Fortunately, she managed to capture photos of one of the assailants and the getaway vehicle, which aided in the subsequent arrest of the criminals. For further details, please refer to the accompanying audio recording.

AUDIO: Woman Narrates Robbery By Gang Including Women In Police Uniforms And CIO Impostor

Tafadzwa Shumba, a member of Zimbabwe’s ZANU PF Central Committee, has accused the Director General of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), Isaac Moyo, of ordering a hit on him in an ongoing fight for Mwenezi West’s parliamentary seat.
Shumba challenged Moyo’s wife, Priscilla at ZANU PF’s primaries and later went independent after alleging that he lost due to the influence of Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) and CIO operatives.
He disputed ZANU PF primary election results that placed him second behind Priscilla and wrote numerous letters to the party’s leadership raising complaints over FAZ’s operations to her benefit. He now claims that his car was hijacked at gunpoint and torched. He claimed that the attackers were looking for him and had been sent by Moyo. He said moments after losing the vehicle:

My car was hijacked at gun point 40 minutes ago at Tsungirirai Secondary School by what we suspect to be CIO operatives sent by their boss.
Mwenezi seems to have become a thorn in their flesh. I am safe and sound but they were heard saying they are looking for me specifically,  they drove the vehicle towards Marhanda where gunshots rang.

The car was later found burnt beyond repair. Shumba is one of the few who have braved ZANU PF’s wrath to stand as an independent candidate after ‘losing’ primaries. Late Christopher Rwodzi, who contested independently under the banner Independent4ED, was killed in an accident on his way to the rural constituency.
Ndinyarei Mupukuta, who was contesting the Maramba-Pfungwe National Assembly seat independently, withdrew his candidature citing personal reasons last week. His withdrawal came after President Emmerson Mnangagwa issued a stern warning to disgruntled Zanu PF members running as independent candidates. Mnangagwa reminded them to follow the party’s rules and emphasised that the party had been in existence for over 64 years. Mnangagwa warned that anyone who acted against the party’s interests would face consequences. He urged all party members to unite and work together for the good of the party and emphasised that the deployment of candidates was the responsibility of the party leadership and not individual members.

ZANU PF Senior Official Accuses CIO Boss Of Ordering Hit In Parliamentary Seat Fight

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission/">Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)</a> has announced that a senior officer in the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) has been convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for extortion.
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZACC said Patrick Badza, the convicted officer, demanded a payment of USD9,900 from a Chinese investor who sought work permits for his workers. Badza threatened to deny the permits if the payment was not made.
The ZACC investigated the matter and arrested Badza, who subsequently faced trial and was found guilty.
The issue of extortion in Zimbabwe remains a persistent problem, as evidenced by recent reports of corruption involving law enforcement officials. In April 2022, three officers from different security agencies were arrested and charged with soliciting a bribe at the Beitbridge border post. The accused individuals, who were part of a joint operation against smuggling and illegal border crossings, allegedly demanded a bribe of R6,500 from a motorist travelling from South Africa. The victim paid the bribe and subsequently reported the incident to a relative who then filed a complaint with the Beitbridge Customs and Excise Regional Manager. The matter was then reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the three officers who were subsequently charged with criminal abuse of office. The magistrate remanded them in custody after the prosecutor successfully opposed bail. 
In 2019, the Zimbabwe Morning Post reported that some retired ministers from the ruling party ZANU-PF, who were employed at the party’s headquarters, had taken over the mandate of the Zimbabwe Investment Authority (ZIA) to promote and facilitate foreign and local investment. According to the publication, investors were directed to the ZANU-PF headquarters to discuss their business interests before going to the ZIA. The report suggested that these <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2019/06/10/zanu-pf-heavyweights-scaring-investors-by-demanding-huge-bribes/">ZANU-PF officials were demanding large kickbacks from investors as facilitation fees.</a> This situation raised concerns about the credibility of the ZIA and the country’s investment climate.
These reports emerged after Zimbabwe lost a billion-dollar investment from Dangote in 2015 due to demands for kickbacks from former first lady Grace Mugabe’s team.
Recently, President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa/">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> acknowledged the presence of and expressed concern about the corruption and bureaucracy that is scaring away investors. ZACC Confirms Senior CIO Officer Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison For Extortion

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Mutasa/">Patrick Donald Mutasa</a> as Deputy Director-General of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO). This decision is believed to be an attempt to increase his control over the intelligence agency.
Mnangagwa’s grip on the CIO is essential to his efforts to consolidate and retain power, particularly with the upcoming elections and the possibility of internal sabotage.
Mnangagwa’s relationship with CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo is reportedly deteriorating, and some of the agency’s top officials are viewed as ineffective or compromised by political factionalism, according to The News Hwaks.
Mnangagwa’s appointment of Mutasa, who previously served as the director of administration, is reportedly aimed at taking away some of the responsibilities from those who have fallen out of favour and assigning them to loyalists.
According to The News Hawks, there are rumours within the Zimbabwean intelligence community that CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo is viewed with suspicion by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, despite his loyalty to the president. This suspicion reportedly stems from Moyo’s recent support of Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chairperson Priscilla Chigumba, with whom Mnangagwa allegedly has a strained relationship.
Mnangagwa and his allies allegedly wanted to sabotage the delimitation process, leading to a fallout between the president and Chigumba.
The CIO, police, and army play a critical role in Zimbabwean elections and have previously played important roles in ZANU PF’s election campaigns.
Mnangagwa has also assigned retired Brigadier-General Walter Tapfumaneyi to lead Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (Faz), an alleged underground operational unit campaigning for Mnangagwa and ZANU PF in the August general elections.

President Mnangagwa Appoints Mutasa As Deputy Director Of The CIO

A former director for economics in the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court on a charge of raping his stepdaughter (12).
The accused, who was being represented by Advocate Tazorora Musarurwa, appeared before magistrate Estere Chivasa on Thursday.
He is denying the offence, according to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200008648/ex-top-spy-in-court-for-rape">NewsDay</a>.
Three witnesses testified in the matter, with the State closing its case on Friday.
The court will deliver its ruling on March 17.
What happened:
Allegations are that sometime in August last year, the former CIO director summoned his stepdaughter to his bedroom before raping her.
The complainant allegedly tried to scream, but no one heard her.
The girl’s mother had gone to work, 
He allegedly threatened the girl against talking about the sexual abuse.

Former CIO Director In Court For Raping Stepdaughter

The Zimbabwean government has reportedly given senior <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation_(CIO)">Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO)</a> directors US$350 000 housing loans each, according to <a href="https://thenewshawks.com/senior-cio-directors-given-us350-000-cash-windfall/">The News Hawks</a>.
An unnamed source was cited as saying that District Intelligence Officers will also be given backdated allowances. The source is quoted as saying:
<blockquote>
There is a windfall for CIO. Senior directors who are regarded as deputy ministerial level are getting US$350 000 as housing allowances. District Intelligence Officers and above will get ZW$3 000 000, while those below have been given ZW$1 000 000 backdated allowances.
Besides that, an internal confidential circular has been written, saying no one is resigning. The memo basically says even those who have reached retirement can stay on until further notice.
This is a desperate bid to stop officers from quitting as they have been doing due to poor conditions of service. It’s also about elections.
</blockquote>
The development comes barely months after reports that the cash-strapped government had given ministers US$500 000 and deputy ministers US$350 000 in housing allowances.
Members of Parliament were also allocated US$40 000 each in November last year, sparking a major outcry, especially against opposition MPs who were accused of joining the gravy train.
The loans totalled US$14 million for all 350 legislators.
Also late last year, the government began installing solar panels at the homes of more than 100 government officials, commissioners and service chiefs at the cost of US$14 000 per unit to cushion them from rolling nationwide power cuts lasting up to 18 hours.
Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa, said ministers’ loans were not budgeted for while MPs’ allowances were budgeted for. 
Besides the US$40 000, MPs also got US$50 000 for cars, instead of US$80 000 which means there is “a balance of US$30 000.”
Analysts believe the loans are a strategy by the ruling ZANU PF to influence the outcome of the national elections scheduled for this year.
For decades now, ZANU PF has been accused of using state security forces to retain power by intimidating the electorate or manipulating the electoral processes. 
The CIO and other security forces have agents in the whole electoral process, including at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), where the secretariat is headed by Utloile Silaigwana a former army officer. He took over as chief elections officer from the late Lovemore Sekeramayi, a former top CIO officer.

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Tsenengamu">Godfrey Tsenengamu</a> who leads the opposition Front for Economic Emancipation said his party won’t be stopped by anyone, even state security agents, particularly members of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO).
He also said his party would push for the formation of a government of national unity after next year’s general elections, <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200001846/tsenengamus-party-dares-cio-ahead-of-polls">NewsDay</a> reported.
Addressing a Press conference in Harare yesterday, Tsenengamu said:

We are not afraid of anyone; be it the CIO because we are not going to break any law to mobilise people. If anyone thinks that they will stop us, they will be disappointed as they won’t be able to stop us.
We will respond equally to anyone who wants to stop us because we believe that we are all equal. What is enjoyed by Zanu PF should be enjoyed by everyone.

He called on the ruling party to desist from disrupting opposition rallies ahead of elections.
Tsenengamu a former ZANU PF Youth League Political Commissar said he knew that the ruling party was going to try to intimidate them adding that his party was prepared for any eventuality.
He also called upon political actors to desist from using hate speech.

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation">Central Intelligence Organisation</a>’s training college in Hatfield caught fire in a suspected arson attack just before 3 PM on Thursday.
ZimLive reported that the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> is investigating the case. 
The incident was preceded by <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/man-shot-dead-during-a-break-in-at-home-of-cio-deputy-director/">an attempted break-in</a> at the Harare house of CIO deputy director, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gatsha_Mazithulela">Gatsha Mazithulela</a> around 2 am on Thursday. 
<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/man-shot-dead-during-a-break-in-at-home-of-cio-deputy-director/">A man was shot dead</a> during a break-in while two others are said to have disappeared.
Investigators would be trying to establish if the two incidents are related. 
Mazithulela, a former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_University_of_Science_and_Technology">National University of Science and Technology (NUST)</a> vice-chancellor, who also teaches at the CIO’s training college was unharmed in the incident.
Mazithulela was appointed to the role of deputy director in January 2020.

CIO’s Training College Catches Fire In A Suspected Arson Attack

A man was shot dead during a break-in at the Harare home of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) deputy director <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gatsha_Mazithulela">Gatsha Mazithulela</a>.
The incident took place at around 2 AM on Thursday at Mazithulela’s Crichton Road residence in the Groombridge area of Mt Pleasant, ZimLive reported.
The former National University of Science and Technology (NUST) vice-chancellor, who was appointed to the role in January 2020, was unharmed in the incident.
Neighbours said they woke up to the sound of gunfire, and before long the Mazithulela residence was swarming with police and security agents from various departments. One neighbour told ZimLive:

I heard there could have been three people who tried to jump over a perimeter wall, and one was shot dead. An ambulance arrived at around 3AM but the person didn’t make it.
Everyone around here seems to think the intruders were robbers because just hours before, there was an attempted break-in at a house on Maxwell Road nearby.

This is not the first security incident at the home of Mazithulela.
In November 2020, just months after his appointment, a CIO agent guarding his Matabeleland North farm drunkenly <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/03/drunk-cio-agent-points-gun-at-boss/">pointed a gun at him.</a>

Mazithulela was leaving his farm in Norwood in Umguza at about 7 PM on November 28 when he observed Earnest Muleya, who was on guard duties at the property, staggering.
Suspecting the 38-year-old was drunk, Mazithulela demanded that Muleya hands over his AK-47 assault rifle which he was carrying. Instead of handing over the rifle, Muleya cocked it and pointed it at Mazithulela who ran and took cover behind his vehicle before making a dash for his house where he barricaded himself inside.
Mazithulela called the CIO’s regional headquarters at Magnet House in Bulawayo and agents were dispatched to the farm where they disarmed and arrested Muleya.

Man Shot Dead During A Break-in At Home Of CIO Deputy Director

Police, soldiers and state intelligence officers on Wednesday launched a pre-dawn raid on the Harare home of evangelist Walter Magaya.
Magaya was not home but his wife and children are believed to have been sleeping when the inter-agency teams stormed his Mt Pleasant property at around 4 AM.
One witness said the security agents numbered at least 50. A senior member of Magaya’s charge said: 
<blockquote>
They arrived at around 4 AM, they were 50 or more. They just started harassing everyone and conducted searches.
One question they kept asking was ‘what did he bring from Kenya?
</blockquote>
Magaya was in Kenya last week for a church conference. He was provided with a police escort everywhere he went. Tens of thousands of believers attended the church conference in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
The raid on his home lasted several hours.
Magaya’s whereabouts are unknown and it was not clear if he is wanted, and what crime he was suspected of having committed.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the raid was “in relation to an ongoing criminal investigation”, but refused to state the nature of the offence he was suspected of having committed.
A source inside Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance church said:

One of the people demanded to know where the guns were kept. Nothing was making sense from their questions. It very much appeared as though the plan was to find something that shouldn’t be there, and then build a case from there.

It was unclear if Magaya had returned to Zimbabwe from Kenya.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) later indicated in a statement, seen by Pindula News, that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/03/02/zimbabwe-republic-police-speak-on-raids-conducted-in-harare/">three premises were raided</a> adding that the raids were not targeting, specific individuals or personalities but criminal activities based on the information given to the Police.

The Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) and police detectives are stalking Botswana citizens of Indian origins who are booked at a hotel in Masvingo after getting intelligence they were funding opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s nationwide campaigns.
A leaked memo from the Officer Commanding Harare to the officer commanding Masvingo Central District says the Motswana of Indian origin, namely Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan with passport number: BN0178231, Muneer Ahmed Khan passport number: BN0456429, Muddathir Ahmed Khan passport number: BN0642134, Akbar Ali Khan passport number: BN0695225 and Abdul Razzak Khan with passport number: BN0233401 were strategising on how they will fund Chamisa campaign ahead of the 2023 election.
 According to the memo, Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan is a member of the Botswana opposition party and is also a representative of the Islamic Society of Botswana. The document, seen by NewZimbabwe.com, reads:

On this date (18/11/21) and time operatives gathered information to the effect that there are Indians Nationals who are working with Chamisa.
I nformation reveals that these Indians are supporting Chamisa with resources in form of cash so that he could do rallies across the country. The Indians are housed in various Hotels in Masvingo Town.
The Motswana nationals are Five in number and their names are Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan, Muneer Ahmed Khan, Muddathir Ahmed Khan, Abdul Razak Khan. Further information revealed that these Indians are now planning to relocate to Greater Harare in Hotel. Currently the Indians are booked in a Hotel in Masvingo. Operatives will keep monitoring these people and another memo will be effected.

Names of people working with them in Masvingo have also been stated as one Selemani a former army Colonel, Takunda Hungwe and Gulam Mohammed Patel.
Police assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi, however, said the document does not belong to the police.
Under the Political Parties Finance Act, political parties should be funded by Treasury depending on how many seats they hold in Parliament.

CIO Tracking Botswana Citizens After Allegations They're Funding Chamisa

A half-naked Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) agent and a female passenger died in a car after a horrific road accident which also claimed the life of a police detective near Marondera.
ZimLive reports that a Mazda 3 driven by Detective Sergeant Benson Chingawo of Juru Police Base collided with a truck near Watershed in Marondera just after midnight on Monday, on the highway linking Harare and Mutare.
Chingawo died on the spot together with CIO agent Batsirai Maposa and a woman identified as Franny Onai Zinyuku who were passengers in the back seat.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident adding that the driver of the truck survived. He said:

The ZRP can confirm a road traffic accident which occurred at the 60km peg along Harare-Mutare Road.
The victims are a male individual from the President’s Office, another a male police officer and a female civilian. The accident involved a Mazda 3 and a truck whose driver survived with some injuries.

Pictures from the accident scene showed Maposa without his trousers on and Zinyuku’s dress raised above her waist. She appeared to have been lying across the seat at the time of impact, while Maposa was in a sitting position.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi condemned the people who took the pictures. Nyathi said:

About the two half-naked people at the back seat, we’re still investigating the circumstances and we urge people who rush to accident scenes to avoid taking pictures.
People who arrive first at accident scenes should try to offer help, instead of rushing to take pictures for social media glory.

Nyathi said they had recovered money from Zinyuku’s belongings, but he would not disclose the amount. 
An anonymous police source, however, told ZimLive that the cash was in excess of US$3 000.

Half-Naked CIO Agent, Female Passenger, Cop Die In Horrific Accident

The Officer-in-charge Zaka District Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), Simbarashe Huni has died.
He died last week at his Target Kopje home from COVID-19-related complications aged 63.
His wife Emma Ncube confirmed the death to Masvingo Mirror and said burial arrangements were still underway. She said:
<blockquote>It came as a shock. He was fit till Monday when he complained of chest pains and he tested positive for COVID-19.</blockquote>
Huni was driven to Masvingo Provincial Hospital by his wife at 10 pm when he was failing to breathe and was declared dead on arrival.
He was a well-known sugarcane farmer and had a farm in Mkwasine in Chiredzi.

The government has reportedly deployed Israeli spying technology for use by the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to ferret citizens’ calls and messages.
Zimbabwe is one of the 25 countries in the world using the spyware developed by Israeli technology company Circles to spy on citizens.
Intelligence sources told The NewsHawks this week that the CIO used the technology to record Vice-President Kembo Mohadi’s calls and messages with several women, some of them married aides. A source was quoted as saying:
<blockquote>Mohadi was recorded by CIO. Our intelligence services, especially CIO and military intelligence, have the technological capabilities to record calls, messages, snoop emails and locate people through their smartphones.
The technology came from Israeli and China, but the Israeli one is far superior, effective and deadlier.
Intelligence services in Zimbabwe record almost everyone, including those around the President.
Remember the First Lady (Auxillia Mnangagwa)’s angry call outburst with Murombo (Colonel Samson Murombo was Commander of 1 Presidential Guard Infantry Battalion based at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KGVI Barracks) in Harare, which is responsible for securing the President and State House).
Mohadi was recorded by CIO and the recordings were circulated to our bosses internally and then leaked to the media.
The President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) and CIO director-general (Isaac Moyo) were fully aware of the recordings.
Moyo got the recordings from his technical team and shared them with Mnangagwa. The leaks were later done by CIO analysts for political reasons; to expose and stop Mohadi from brazen abuse of office and embarrassing the government. The idea was not to remove him from office but to contain him.
That is why Mnangagwa didn’t force him out even if he could have done so. The best way to contain Mohadi was to expose and stop him.
Some people close to him had previously raised these issues with him before all this, but he didn’t listen.
So CIO went all out to stop him through this operation by leaking the recordings strategically (there are actually many of them), especially because one of their officers was involved; married women and young girls were also entangled in it.
So in short, this was a CIO operation to stop the marauding Vice-President, who was acting like a bull in a China shop, from abusing office and tarnishing the image of government, but political vultures were already circling over his potential political carcass, which was an unintended consequence.
The predators or vultures still see an opportunity.</blockquote>

CIO Leaked Mohadi's Phone Calls To Expose & Stop Him - REPORT

A drunk member of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) reportedly pointed a gun at the state security agency’s deputy director-general Gatsha Mazithulela.
The court heard on Wednesday that Mazithulela was leaving his farm in Norwood in Umguza, Matabeleland North, at about 7 PM on November 28 when he allegedly observed that Earnest Muleya, who was on guard duties at the property was staggering.

Mazithulela, the former vice-chancellor of the National University of Science and Technology, was appointed as CIO deputy director-general in January this year.

Drunk CIO Agent Points Gun At Boss

A fake Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative on Saturday appeared before the Concession magistrates’ courts facing three counts of extortion.
Clapaton Mudadigwa (38) of HB 31 Mushayamombe, Rugare in Harare, is alleged to have masqueraded as a CIO agent as a strategy to extort money from businesses that would have violated lockdown regulations.
The state represented by Prosecutor Munyaradzi Nengomasha alleged that on April 20, Mudadigwa went to Shutu business centre claiming to be an officer enforcing Covid-19 regulations.
Mudadigwa allegedly approached Hilda Banga in her shop and threatened to arrest her for opening her shop earlier 
than the stipulated time.
He extorted $164 from the complainant before going to the next shop where he got US$10 after threatening 
to assault the owner.
The prosecutor added that the owner of the shop whom he had extorted money contacted the police leading to his arrest.
The accused pleaded not guilty and magistrate Nyasha Machiriori remanded him in custody to Monday 8 June 2020 for continuation of trial.

FAKE CIO Agent Extorts Businesses During Lockdown

The president of Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Dr Takavafira Zhou has claimed that members of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) last Thursday paid him an unannounced visit at his offices in Masvingo as the majority of PTUZ members across the country are reportedly boycotting classes.
Speaking to News Day on Saturday, Zhou said that he told the CIO and police from the Central Investigations Department (CID Kwekwe) that teachers had a dispute with the employer over the devaluation of teachers’ salaries from US$500 to US$35. He added: 

<blockquote>I explained to the CIOs that the shutdown of shops is not part of our agenda, but staying away from work because of incapacitation. They also interrogated us on our 2014 banner, whose other writing thread demanded ‘accountability over diamonds and other minerals’ and I explained our expectation of responsible leadership that should judiciously use minerals for the benefit of all Zimbabweans as opposed to self-aggrandisement and economic banditry.</blockquote>
Some teachers who spoke to Studio7 revealed that they are on go slow whilst some said that they went to their workplaces to fool the employer into thinking that they were working whilst they were doing nothing.

State Security Agents Pay PTUZ President "Unannounced Visit" Over Teachers' Strike

Prominent journalist and filmmaker, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin%27ono">Hopewell Chin’ono</a> has claimed that ZANU PF is no longer a party but a vessel that is being used by the security sector in the country to manipulate elections.
His remarks resonate with those of several other political analysts who believe that the military has a large stake hence stakeholders and stockholders of the “party”. Posting on Twitter, Chin’ono said:

If the army &amp; other security services decided to be professional today, THAT will be the END of ZANU-PF!
We have a shell that is used to STEAL elections backed up by the military!

Former Higher and Tertiary Education Minister and ZANU PF politburo member, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Jonathan Moyo</a>, said officers from the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Central_Intelligence_Organisation" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO)</a> paid a worker at a complex where he is staying to get his picture from CCTV cameras.
Moyo revealed this while responding to a tweet by veteran journalist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Violet_Gonda" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Violet Gonda</a>, who had said she met Moyo in East Africa (presumably Kenya), where they discussed a number of issues. <a href="https://twitter.com/ProfJNMoyo/status/1179500402619928576" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Said Moyo</a>:

Moyo fled the country in November 2017 during the coup that overthrew the late President Robert Mugabe.
He was reportedly granted asylum by the Kenyan government, and the government of Zimbabwe’s attempt to have Moyo’s former ally, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Saviour_Kasukuwere" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Saviour Kasukuwere</a> arrested and extradited by Interpol hit a brick wall earlier this year.

Jonathan Moyo Under CIO Surveillance - Report

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has condemned the seizure of Tendai Biti’s new book by Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) officers.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch of Democracy Works at the SAPES Trust in Harare, Chamisa said the seizure gives Zimbabwe a negative image. Chamisa joined the book’s co-authors: Zimbabwe’s former finance minister Tendai Biti, former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo and Greg Mills of the Johannesburg-based Brenthurst Foundation at the launch. Said Chamisa:
<blockquote>I was very disturbed to learn that the books were confiscated by the authorities at the airport. The state makes unnecessary and uncalled for decisions that give our country a negative image.</blockquote>
Copies of the book sent through DHL by the publishers Pan Macmillan in Johannesburg arrived in Harare in early March, but were seized by the CIO. The book was launched in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg earlier this week.

The family of senior Central Intelligence Organisation operative Peter Munetsi, who died in military detention during the November 2017 coup  is seeking “compensation for wrongful death and loss of support”.
Munetsi’s family has also written to the police demanding the urgent release of post-mortem results in their desperate quest to ascertain the cause and manner of his death. Munetsi’s death has reportedly been under investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Criminal Investigations Department. However, the police have not released the post-mortem results, forcing the family to engage lawyers.
A letter from lawyer Denford Halimani of Wintertons Legal Practitioners says the family needs the post mortem results so as to access his insurance. The letter was addressed to the officer in charge of the CID’s Law and Order section at Harare Central Police Station. Halimani said Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, which conducted the post-mortem, referred the family to the CID Homicide department for the results. When contacted for a comment by Zimbabwe Independent, police spokesman Paul Nyathi said he was not aware of the matter.

Family Demands Compensation For CIO Killed During Coup

According to sources who spoke to The Standard, State Security minister Owen Ncube, has effected the transfer of suspected Mugabe loyalists from their stations to different provinces.
Others have lost their jobs. The source said operatives who were using the office of the president to extort money from business people were also transferred. Said the source:
<blockquote>The minister has effected transfers in nearly all provinces. In Kwekwe the top six were all transferred with some going to Hwange while others were sent to Masvingo. Many others have received letters from the minister assigning them to new posts. There were many operatives that were using the office of the president to demand money from farmers, foreign owned companies and mines. Those with such connections had become more powerful than political structures and had vowed not to leave their stations but Ncube is changing all that.</blockquote>
Ncube has also tightened security around Mnangagwa and changed security details assigned to the first family.

CIO Directors Loyal To Mugabe Transferred

Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s League Cde Mabel Chinomona warned women against establishing parallel structures within the party saying the intelligence unit was watching them.
Chinomona said this during a Zanu-PF Women’s League national assembly meeting in Harare yesterday. <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/12/08/first-lady-urges-women-in-zanu-pf-to-desist-from-gossiping/">First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa was in attendance and urged Zanu-PF women to desist from gossiping</a>. The meeting ran under the theme “Unshakeable Women in Support of Unwavering Action-Oriented Leadership”. Said Chinomona:

CIO Is Watching You: Zanu-PF Women's League Warned Against Establishing Parallel Structures

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed that  a Central Intelligence Officer Brian Umera drowned at Lower Ncema Dam in Umzingwane on Saturday during an outing with friends.
Umera who was based in Bulawayo allegedly drowned after he fell from a boat and rescuers had by yesterday not found his body. Chief Inspector Ndebele said members of the police sub aqua unit were by yesterday still searching for Umera’s body. Said Ndebele:
<blockquote>I can confirm receiving a report of a male adult who drowned at Ncema Dam. We’re told that he slipped from a boat and drowned. The sub aqua unit was deployed on the same day and are still searching for the body.</blockquote>

CIO Officer Drowns At Lower Ncema Dam

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting has said it is still gathering more information concerning an incident where Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) agents detained and harassed journalist Violet Gonda.
Gonda was harassed and detained at State House while covering President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s meeting with business leaders on Monday. In an account published on NewZimbabwe.com, Gonda said she was detained and harassed for several minutes by three CIO operatives who also grabbed the mobile phone she was using to livestream interviews with Kuda Tagwirei (implicated in allegations of state capture), Kindness Paradza and RBZ Governor John Mangudya.
The Ministry of Information said State House is a protected area and taking footage can be subject to restrictions. Speaking on Twitter the Ministry of Information said:
<blockquote>We are getting more information over a reported incident involving a journalist at Statehouse yesterday. This is a high security area, whose perimeter, grounds and buildings are highly protected. Like all such institutions elsewhere taking footage can be subject to restrictions.</blockquote>
