The Government has commended Delta Beverages for bankrolling the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as well as capacitating various football stakeholders in the country.
Delta Beverages are the sponsor of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, Zimbabwe’s top-flight football league.
Speaking at the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Awards in Harare on Friday night, the Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Emily Jesaya, who was Guest of Honour, said:

Delta Beverages Marketing Director Irimayi Muzorewa said it was a pleasure to celebrate the best players of the 2023 season.
PSL chairman Farai Jere commended the soccer stars and also challenged local players to score more goals next season after the Golden Boot was won by 13 goals this year.
Jere said 567 goals were scored from the 360 matches played during the season.
This was a significant decrease from the 594 goals netted last season. Said Jere:

We expect our goals to go up each year but this year we had a challenge. The top goal scorer Takunda Benhura has 13 goals. Last year the top goal scorer had 17 goals.
So, it’s a challenge for the players to up their game. I would like to challenge our strikers to score more goals next season.
Our main objective is to improve our game so that it becomes attractive and makes it appealing to stakeholders.

Ngezi Platinum Stars captain <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Qadr_Amini">Qadr Amini</a> was crowned as the 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Soccer Star of the Year, Dynamos midfielder Donald Mudadi finished as the first runner-up and Bulawayo Chiefs striker Obriel Chirinda was the second runner-up.

Govt Commends Delta Beverages For Supporting Local Football

Yadah FC avoided relegation by winning 2-1 against Dynamos in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match held on Sunday at the National Sports Stadium. However, after the game, some Dynamos supporters confronted Genesis Mangombe, the Dembare coach, accusing him of intentionally losing to his former team, Yadah.
Yadah FC, known as “The Miracle Boys”, is owned by local preacher, Walter Magaya.

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Premier_Soccer_League">Premier Soccer League (PSL)</a> has summoned <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dynamos_Football_Club">Dynamos FC</a> Team Manager, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Richard_Chihoro">Richard Chihoro</a>, for a disciplinary hearing over acts of misconduct. In a statement seen by Pindula News, PSL said the acts of misconduct occurred when the Harare-based football giants played <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hwange_Football_Club">Hwange FC</a> at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Barbourfields_Stadium">Barbourfields Stadium</a> over the weekend. Reads the statement:

<h2>PRESS RELEASE: DISCIPLINARY SUMMONS – RICHARD CHIHORO (DYNAMOS FC)</h2>
The Premier Soccer League has summoned Dynamos FC Team Manager, Richard Chihoro to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee following acts of misconduct that took place at a Castle Lager PSL match between Dynamos FC and Hwange FC played at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday 18 March 2023.
Mr Chihoro will not be allowed anywhere near the team bus, changing rooms or to sit in the technical area during PSL matches until the matter has been finalised.
Mr Chihoro is being charged for breaching Order 31 of the PSL Rules and Regulations which makes it an act of misconduct on the part of a player, official, servants or duly authorised (express or implied) representatives of a club who; 31.2.16 Commits any act or makes any statement, either orally or in writing or has been responsible for conduct which is considered ungentlemanly, insulting or improper behaviour, or likely to bring the game, sponsors, any member, the League, ZIFA, CAF or FIFA into disrepute.
31.2.17 Behaves in a manner which brings the League or any of its sponsors into disrepute or endangers the welfare of the League.
The disciplinary proceedings shall take place on Wednesday 5 April 2023 at the PSL offices.

PSL is summoning the Dynamos Team Manager for a disciplinary hearing after he was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/dynamos-manager-performs-bizarre-juju-rituals-on-goal-line/">filmed performing alleged anti-juju rituals</a> during the Glamour Boys’ opening match of the 2023 season.
During the half-time break, Chihoro went onto the Mpilo end goalpost and sprinkled an unknown substance across the goal line.
Dynamos had numerous chances in the first half but could not convert them into scores.
They eventually scored a solitary goal through Tinashe Makanda from a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Denver_Mukamba">Denver Mukamba</a> assist, to grab maximum points.

Castle Lager Premiership Results, Fixtures

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza and his Dynamos counterpart, Tonderai Ndiraya both expressed satisfaction with their respective teams’ performances in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
The match ended goalless, with both sides missing good goalscoring chances.
Mapeza believes the result was fair considering that the team is adjusting to the departure of several senior players. He said:

The result was fair as far as I am concerned. We could have done better, but we did not get as many chances today because we are still trying to have our solidity back, with new players, most of them young, coming to join the team.
We lost the first match since coming from the break and this should be a good starting point as we go forward.

Ndiraya said he was pleasantly surprised by his charges’ offensive approach as he had planned on containing the platinum miners. He said:

I am happy with this performance. Now, this is a different Dynamos you have seen.
The team is at its best probably for the first time in many years.
You cannot predict anything from us. When you play away, naturally there is an idea of playing defensive football.
Honestly, I was very cautious, I wanted the team to defend but they turned a gear up and were offensive throughout the match.
We were so good that our goalkeeper made one save; that shows a lot about our character.
We have been at the receiving end of them in recent times but we are slowly changing the script.
Last time we won and this time we take a point going home, which makes me happy as the coach.

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) action continues this coming weekend, with nine matches set to be played over the weekend, into Monday.
The PSL resumed on 12 February after a near two-month-long break that coincided with the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The campaign resumed with rearranged matchday three games that were postponed due to COVID-19 before the break which started on 21 December.
This coming Saturday, FC Platinum host Harare giants Dynamos in Zvishavane, while Chicken Inn clashes with Bulawayo Chiefs in Bulawayo on the same day.

Premier League Matches Return This Weekend

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) will break for the festive season and resume in February, with postponed matchday three fixtures set to kick off on the 12th.
A number of fixtures were abandoned following COVID-19 outbreaks at several fixtures.
The break will also allow struggling teams to reset and restrategise ahead of the resumption of the league next year.
Teams such as Bulawayo City, Tenax, Highlanders, Cranborne Bullets and Yadah Stars have struggled in the first three games of the season, with each having a single point.
Clubs can also have the opportunity to beef up their squads when the transfer window opens in January.
Bulawayo City coach Philani Ncube conceded that they have been struggling in the league and the focus will be on avoiding relegation. Said Ncube:

Yes, we can say the break came at the right time when my team was struggling but I’m hopeful that we will strategize and reinforce the squad.
I am sure and will always say that our aim is to avoid relegation and that we will achieve despite starting the league at a slow pace.

Struggling Premier Soccer League Teams Welcome Break

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) has postponed several matches which were scheduled for this weekend after some clubs returned positive COVID-19 cases. 
On Monday, the PSL directed clubs to test their players and officials for COVID-19 before they could start training the following day.
Clubs were expected to meet a 10 am deadline on Tuesday to submit the results for the tests on all playing, technical and administrative staff.
It has emerged that a number of clubs had their members returning positive results for the virus, while some teams missed the deadline. This forced PSL to postpone five matches of round three fixtures which were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The Manica Diamonds v Highlanders, Dynamos v Cranborne Bullets, ZPC Kariba v Triangle United, Black Rhinos v Caps Unite matches have been postponed.
The match between Harare City and Yadah, which was set for the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday, has been moved to Sunday at the same venue.
PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said this particular fixture reschedule had nothing to do with COVID-19. Bare said:

Only four matches will now be played over the weekend amid fears that there could be further disruptions in the league campaign due to the surge in positive cases.
COVID-19 new infections in the country have been rising steadily in the past few days, with over 5 000 positive cases recorded in the last two days to bring the total cases since the onset of the pandemic to over 141 601.
Premier League football only returned last month after a 2-year’s absence due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League has announced the postponement of the PSL which was caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
The league was scheduled to start earlier this year.

Following the National Address by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa issued on Tuesday 17 March 2020 the government has suspended all public events, gatherings and activities of more than 100 people for the next 60 days, the Premier Soccer League hereby announces the postponement of the start of 2020 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League until further notice.
The PSL recommends that in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus people must:
•Avoid handshakes 
•Wash hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds 
•Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth with dirty hands 
•Cough or sneeze into the inside of your elbow 
•Cough or sneeze into a tissue paper and discard immediately 
•Stay hydrated 
•Stay at home (self-isolate) when experiencing flu-like illness (fever, sneezing, dry cough shortness of breath). 
•Avoid gatherings of around 100 people 
•Avoid unnecessary travelling</blockquote>

FC Platinum President, G Mawere has sent a congratulatory message to the team after the team lifted the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League for a third consecutive time.

<blockquote>As the FC Platinum family, we are profoundly humbled, grateful and extremely ecstatic to once again emerge as winners of Zimbabwe’s most sought-after tournament, the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title for the third successive season. This is no small feat; To our patron, our presidium, our executive committee, our technical team, our players, our stakeholders and all our supporters, Well Done!
The road to success was not an easy one. We had our fair share of despair and disappointments but these were punctuated by some magnificently breath-taking and unforgettable moments of celebration. When the going was tough, we remained steadfast in what needed to be done, proving once again that indeed, there is no substitute for hard work and determination.
Guided by our footballing philosophy, which goes beyond just winning matches, throughout the season, we struck a delicate balance of fair and entertaining play that was matched by the highest professional standards. FC Platinum President Sends Congratulatory Message To The Club Upon Lifting PSL Cup

Rains have exposed the poor drainage system at Rufaro Stadium. The stadium is being managed by Harare City Council.
The state of local grounds suggests that games may not be played in the country during the rainy season.
Yesterday’s Premier Soccer League game between Black Rhinos and Ngezi Platinum was postponed as rufaro Stadium was waterlogged.

Castle Lager PSL Results For MatchDay 31

Warriors coach, Joey Antipas has criticised the decision by the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to have games this week which is supposed to be an international break.
Antipas who is also Chicken Inn FC coach said that he will find a way to balance between national team coaching role and club role. He added:
<blockquote>But this whole thing is a mess because this is a Fifa week. Everywhere in the world, there are no local games being played.
Mind you, the national team games take priority over the domestic programme.</blockquote>
There are some teams will be playing this week’s matches without their key players since they were called for national duty.
Meanwhile, Antipas’ boss at Chicken Inn, Lifa Ncube, is the Premier Soccer League vice-chairman.

"This Whole Thing Is A Mess," Warriors Coach Criticises PSL

Harare giants, Caps United resorted to violence after losing 1-0 to PSL opponents in a match played this Wednesday.
Caps United fans threw missiles onto the field after the referee awarded Chicken Inn a penalty following a foul on Obriel Chirinda by Caps goal minder, Tonderai Mateyaunga inside the box.
Makepekepe players confronted the referee Happy Mabhena in protest of the 73rd-minute penalty but failed to convince him to change his mind.
They then walked out of the pitch in protest but later came back. Chicken Inn defender, Passmore Bernard converted the penalty into the nets.
Caps United players confronted the referee again at stoppage time thereby causing chaos on the pitch.
The situation calmed when more police details were deployed around the dressing room.

Makepekepe scored their goals through Joel Ngodzo, Kelvin Ndebele and Ronald Chitiyo while Hwange got their consolation through Ernest Gwatima.
The Green Machine now sits on 50 points, 5 points clear of second-placed <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/FC_Platinum" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">FC Platinum</a> who are on 45 points.
Highlanders’ revival gathered momentum with a 2-0 win over the WiFi Boys while <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo_Chiefs" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Ninjas</a> beat the Sugar Boys 2-0.

Highlanders FC coach, Hendrik Pieter de Jongh, has said that he believes that the country has football players of good quality who could do wonders if they had the right mindset. He said:
<blockquote>Talent alone is not enough, you need discipline and the right attitude and mentality. Right now Christiano Ronaldo has been at the top level for fifteen years because he has the right mentality, attitude and good training.
After training with the squad, he stays behind and trains on his own practising free kicks and corner kicks that is what makes the difference. We need to have our players doing the same. Players must be at the training early, fifteen minutes before the start of a session everyone must be ready to train. </blockquote>
de Jongh added that the whole team including the management needs to be disciplined. He added that the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, which is very competitive, can be one of the best leagues in the continent.
The Dutch gaffer who signed a four-month performance-based contract with Highlanders FC last month has since won three and drew one of the team’s three matches he was in charge.

Premier Soccer League Match-day 24 Fixtures And Venues

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has hiked the match fees for Castle Lager Premier Soccer League officials by more than 100 per cent with effect from October 1, 2019.
ZIFA chief executive officer Joseph Mamutse wrote a letter to PSL CEO Kennedy Ndebele, informing him of the new changes.
As a result, a centre official and match commissioner will both get $700, up from $270 for a match while assistant referees and fourth officials will get $600, up from $240.
Speaking about the development, Zimbabwe Referees’ Committee chairman, Bryton Malandule said:
<blockquote>The circular states that the changes are with effect from September 1 but let me hasten to say that this was the initial plan.
But due to delays in implementing this, the changes will now be effective from next month.
These increases were brought about by the need to cushion our referees against the ever-increasing costs like inflation as well as other vices.</blockquote>
By way of comparison, in South Africa, a referee gets a flat monthly fee of R5 000, while match fees are set at R6 000.

Football Referees Receive Over 100% Pay Hike

ZPC Kariba and Dynamos drew 1-1 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Nyamhunga Stadium on Saturday.
Dynamos scored through a 49th-minute controversial penalty when the hosts’ keeper was adjudged to have fouled Nigel Katawa.
Evans Katema took the set-piece to make it 1-0 in favour of Dynamos. ZPC equalised a few minutes before the final whistle.
