South Africa-based Pay TV SuperSport and the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) on Monday, 30 September, announced new media rights and TV agreements for the 2024/25 CAF Interclub Competitions, which will be broadcast in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This includes popular tournaments like the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, the CAF Women’s Champions League, and the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup. Said SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha:

SuperSport Secures Broadcast Rights For 2024/25 CAF Interclub Competitions

The Zimbabwean government has praised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA for their initiatives to improve safety and security at football stadiums in the country.
This comes after CAF and FIFA recently held a Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop in Harare, aimed at promoting a safer stadium culture across Africa.
As reported by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/govt-hails-fifa-caf-stadium-safety-initiative/">The Herald</a>, the workshop was led by instructors from CAF and FIFA and was attended by 40 football security officers and personnel, who graduated with certificates at the end of the three-day program.
The graduation ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, the Acting Secretary for Sports, Arts, Recreation, and Culture, Eugenia Chidhakwa, Sport and Recreation Commission director-general Eltah Nengomasha, ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume and a senior representative from the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
In a statement read on her behalf by Chidhakwa, Minister of Sport, Arts, Recreation, and Culture Kirsty Coventry, who was unable to attend due to other commitments, expressed gratitude to CAF for the initiative. She said:

The Safe Stadium Initiative Workshop included participants from the Premier Soccer League, and the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League, as well as security personnel from various regions.

Zimbabwe government is happy with FIFA and CAF for making football stadiums safer. They held a workshop in Harare with 40 security officers and they got certificates. High-ranking officials attended the graduation. The Minister of Sport couldn't come but said thanks to FIFA and CAF for helping ZIFA. ZIFA is doing well following the safety regulations. The workshop included people from the Premier Soccer League and the Zimbabwe Women's Soccer League. Everyone who helped with the initiative was appreciated for making sports venues safer.

Zimbabwe Commends FIFA, CAF For Efforts To Enhance Stadium Safety

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has faced criticism for ignoring a call by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for member federations to submit names of stadiums to be assessed for hosting interclub competitions.
<a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/local-news/zifa-nc-ignores-caf-stadiums-reprieve/">ZBC</a> reported that CAF had issued a statement through their Tournament and Events Director, Samson Adamu, requesting federations to provide the names of their facilities for evaluation.
While some associations, such as the Football Association of Malawi and the Kenyan FA, promptly responded to this opportunity, the ZIFA Normalisation Committee failed to take any action before the deadline lapsed.
This oversight means that Zimbabwe’s representatives in continental competitions, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos, will have to play their home matches in Zambia and Botswana respectively, as there are no CAF-approved stadiums in the country.
Some local football administrators believe that the Heart Stadium and Barbourfields Stadium might have met the requirements to host CAF matches, had they been assessed.
This missed opportunity has been viewed as a setback for Zimbabwean clubs, who now face the inconvenience and additional expenses of playing their home games abroad.
Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Farai Jere has criticised the Normalisation Committee for not prioritising the needs of local teams and failing to seize the chance to have Zimbabwean stadiums evaluated by CAF. Said Jere:

Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum need that home advantage when representing the country. Heart Stadium or even Barbourfields could stand very good chances to be given the nod to host the games.
Heart Stadium for example was built with CAF guidelines and it stood a better chance of approval.
We are disappointed that our leaders do not take advantage of situations like these to help out clubs.

Ngezi Platinum Stars are set to host AS Maniema of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the National Heroes Stadium in Zambia, while Dynamos will host ZESCO United of Zambia at the National Stadium in Gaborone, Botswana.

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee ignored CAF's request to submit stadiums for evaluation. This means Zimbabwean clubs like Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos must play their home matches in Zambia and Botswana. The Heart and Barbourfields Stadiums could have met the requirements but were not assessed. This is seen as a setback for the clubs, who will face extra costs and inconvenience. The PSL chairperson criticized the committee for not prioritizing local teams. Ngezi Platinum Stars will play at National Heroes Stadium in Zambia, while Dynamos will play at the National Stadium in Botswana.

"ZIFA Normalisation Committee Ignored CAF Stadiums Reprieve"

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe, who is a South African national, has welcomed the recent readmission of Zimbabwe into the international football system.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football in 2022 after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) interfered with the operations of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
As a result, Zimbabwe failed to participate in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers whose final tournament was held in Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11 2024.
The Warriors had been placed in Group K together with Liberia, Morocco, and South Africa before being withdrawn from the qualifiers.
South Africa and Morocco qualified for the finals which ended on Sunday, with Bafana Bafana clinching the third spot.
The ZIFA Normalisation Committee, which was installed by FIFA, including its chairman Lincoln Mutasa attended the AFCON finals where they had a meeting with Motsepe.
Addressing reporters, Motsepe said CAF missed Zimbabwe when the country was banned from international football for 17 months. He said:

I am excited I had a meeting with the chairman of the normalisation committee (Mutasa).
We missed Zimbabwe (when the country was under suspension).
They have a good footballing legacy and we missed them. I am happy they are now back.

Motsepe expressed his admiration for Zimbabwean players some of whom played for Mamelodi Sundowns, a club that he owns.
These include Peter Ndlovu, Nyasha Mushekwi, Esrom Nyandoro, Khama Billiat, Kuda Mahachi, and Method Mwanjali. Said Motsepe:

Peter Ndlovu still works for Sundowns and I am so happy (that Zimbabwe is back to international football). We were incomplete without Zimbabwe.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final was won by hosts Ivory Coast who came from behind to overcome Nigeria 2-1 on Sunday. The Ivorians have now won the AFCON title three times.

African Football Incomplete Without Zimbabwe - CAF President

Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) reigning champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and the 2023 Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos, may have to play their Confederation of African Football (CAF) home games in one of the neighbouring countries.
Ngezi is set to participate in the CAF Champions League while Dynamos qualified for the Confederation Cup.
Currently, Zimbabwe doesn’t have a single CAF-certified venue to use for international football matches.
All local stadiums, including the National Sports Stadium, failed to meet the CAF minimum requirements and standards.
The national team (The Warriors) had to host Nigeria at Huye Stadium in Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier last year.
The 2024-25 editions of CAF inter-club tournaments are scheduled to start in July.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/dynamos-ngezi-fret-over-stadiums">The Sunday Mail</a>, Ngezi president Takawira Maswiswi said financial constraints have scuttled the club’s plans to renovate Baobab Stadium to meet CAF standards. Maswiswi said:

The issue of the stadium is a big one. In the environment that we are in, you will find that sponsorship has been limited and, therefore, funding has been limited. Priority will be for us to fund the actual participation.
</blockquote>
The PSL champions are hoping that the National Sports Stadium, which they used in 2017 when they participated in the Confederation Cup, will be ready for use by the time the Champions League begins. Said Maswiswi:

Last time (in the Confederation Cup) we made use of the National Sports Stadium because we couldn’t get our stadium homologated.
We think that we might still face the same challenges that we faced last time, in terms of getting Baobab homologated, and if the National Sports Stadium is also not passed for use, then certainly we will have a problem.
I can’t say that I have a solution at this stage but definitely, we will not pull out of the African safari.
As a last resort, we will probably look at using one of the neighbouring countries’ stadiums, but pulling out, no, we will not pull out.

Dynamos chairperson Moses Maunganidze said the club is pinning its hopes on The Heart Stadium which is owned by Walter Magaya, a local church leader. He said:

For now, we are pinning our hopes on Heart Stadium, if it does pass the CAF test.
We are also told that they should be done with renovations at the National Sports Stadium by April.
So, it is our prayer that the stadiums pass the CAF tests.

Both Ngezi and Dynamos also need to have women’s teams in line with another CAF requirement aimed at promoting the growth of the female game on the continent.
Maswiswi said Ngezi may adopt a women’s team or partner with another club. He expressed confidence that by the time they get to the registration process, the club will have a women’s team.

Dynamos, Ngezi May Play CAF Home Matches In South Africa

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has once again condemned both the National Sports Stadium and Rufaro Stadium as unsuitable to host international football matches.
This was revealed in a letter written by CAF technical development director Raul Chipenda to ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson Lincoln Mutasa.
CAF inspected the two venues at the end of last year. The letter, seen by <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/caf-condemn-national-sports-stadium-rufaro-again">The Sunday Mail</a>, reads in part:

With reference to the stadium general inspection conducted by CAF in Zimbabwe to assess the National Sports Stadium (Harare) and Rufaro Stadium (Harare), based on the inspection report, we regret to inform you that both stadiums do not meet the set CAF stadium minimum requirements to host CAF international matches…
The inspection report concluded that several areas in both the stadiums require a total renovation in accordance with the CAF requirements, overall indicating that the stadiums must be totally revamped and redesigned from the ground up to fit the modern football stadium requirements and standards.
Areas such as the field of play, stands and spectator facilities, competition areas, media and medical facilities are just some of the main highlighted issues.
Additionally, the functionality, design, comfort and quality of equipment in the stadiums are currently of great concern.
</blockquote>
CAF said the National Sports Stadium remains in a similar condition as found during its last inspection.
Chipenda also highlighted that the current standard of the refurbishment work on Rufaro was “not fully in line with the CAF stadium requirements”. He wrote:

On this basis, several structural errors and deficiencies could be identified during the inspection visit, which could have been avoided if CAF was consulted from the initial stages of the project.
As it stands, it is important to underline that there is a high risk that at the end of the ongoing renovation works in Rufaro Stadium, the stadium might still fail to comply with the minimum requirements to host some of the CAF competitions.
We would like to highlight that the overall stadium situation in Zimbabwe remains critical, and in case the standards do not improve in the near future, the national teams and clubs will have to continue to play their CAF matches in an approved stadium outside of your territory.
CAF, therefore, encourages the initiation of a total renovation programme on both stadiums in line with the CAF standards, and the purchase of all required equipment.

The FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers resume in June and the ban on the stadiums may force the Warriors to play their home games in a foreign country, again.
Premier Soccer League champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and Chibuku Super Cup winners Dynamos may also be forced to play their home matches in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup assignments, respectively, on foreign soil.

CAF Condemns Zimbabwean Stadiums, Again

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), is set to carry out an investigation into the state of the artificial pitch at Huye Stadium in Rwanda.
This comes after Zimbabwe, Nigeria and South Africa which all played on the pitch in last month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, complained to CAF.
Zimbabwe’s Admiral Muskwe and Marvelous Nakamba, who play in England, picked up injuries while playing on the artificial turf.
According to a letter addressed to the Rwandan Football Federation by CAF’s Technical Development Director, CAF will conduct an independent inspection of Huye Stadium. Read the letter:

Concerning the use of the Huye Stadium in Huye during the last CAF/FIFA competitions matches, we would like to draw your attention that CAF has received complaints from the visiting teams concerning the quality of the artificial pitch in the field of play area.
Furthermore, the reports from the CAF Match Command Center (MCC) and the designated CAF match officials also raised the same concerns about the pitch.
In this regard, CAF will carry out an independent inspection of Huye Stadium conducted by an artificial pitch expert, to assess the current state of the pitch for use in CAF/FIFA Senior A international matches.
Based on the inspection report, a decision will be taken by the CAF regarding the approval of the stadium.
We underline that the CAF decision will be made based on the status of the stadium and the level of compliance reported at the time of the inspection.
Accordingly, we kindly ask FERWAFA to suggest the dates in the coming weeks, so that CAF can initiate the coordination of the mission.

CAF Set To Inspect Rwandan Stadium After Zimbabwe, Nigeria And South Africa Lodged Complaints

The coach of the Under-15 boys’ team, Norman Taruvinga is confident his boys will “put up a great performance” in the upcoming CAF African Schools Football Championship.
The ten-team tournament will be played at Gateway High School, Harare from 14 to 17 December this year. Speaking to ZIFA media, Taruvinga said:

I believe in the talent in the squad, especially being our first time in this competition.
Yes, other countries have played this youth competition before, and have prepared for a longer period, having done their selections as early as May and before, but that should challenge us to put on a great fight.
The beauty of being a newcomer is that no one knows what you are bringing to the table.
I’m looking forward to a great performance from the boys and believe they will get all the support they need from their families, friends, communities and the nation as a whole.

The boys are currently based at Direct Contact School for a training camp that started Monday and is set to end next week on Tuesday.

CAF Schools Football Championship Under-15 Boys' Team coach Confident

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has appointed coaches for the Under-15 boys and girls teams who will take charge of the schools’ national teams in the CAF African Schools Football Championship zonal tournament.
Norman Taruvinga and Irene Mwanza will coach the boys, while Irene Mwanza will take charge of the girls.
ZIFA has also announced the appointment of Charles Rangwani and Kundai Maromo as the Safeguarding Officers for the boys’ and girl’s teams, respectively. A statement issued by ZIFA on Friday, 01 December reads:

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has appointed Norman Taruvinga and Irene Mwanza as the head coaches of the Under-15 boys and girls teams respectively.
The coaches will take charge of the schools’ national teams in the ten-team CAF African Schools Football Championship zonal tournament from 14 to 16 December.
Taruvinga, a teacher at Prince Edward High School, Harare is a seasoned coach with extensive experience at the youth level.
His appointment will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. Mwanza, a teacher at Mosia Tunya High School, Victoria Falls, possesses a deep understanding of the game and a passion for nurturing young talent.
The pair were the best candidates among applicants for the posts, and they are practicing schoolteachers, a mandatory requirement for the positions.
ZIFA has also appointed Charles Rangwani (Tazviona Primary School, Chipinge), and Kundai Maromo (Rufaro High School, Masvingo) Safeguarding Officers for the boys and girls teams, respectively.
Rangwani and Maromo will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and protection of the young players from potential harm throughout the tournament.
The association wishes all the appointed officials the best in their duties.

ZIFA Appoints Coaches For Schools' National Teams

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has released more details about the CAF African Schools Football Championship set to take place next month:
What you need to know about the CAF African Schools Football Championship

<li>It is a youth football tournament organised by the continental football mother body, CAF for school-going children aged between 12 &amp; 15.</li>
<li>It is played in three phases namely; National, Zonal and Continental.</li>
</ul>
Who are the hosts?
Zimbabwe is hosting the Zonal Phase.
Tournament dates:
14 – 17 December 2023
Tournament venue:
Gateway High School, Harare
How many nations will participate?
10 teams including hosts will compete. These are Angola, Botswana, Madagascar, Zambia, Eswatini, Malawi, South Africa, Namibia, Seychelles, Angola and Zimbabwe.

FORMAT AND ORGANISATION OF THE MATCHES
1) U15 Girls Championship matches shall be played on a 8-a-side football format, with each 
team fielding eight players.
2) U13 Boys Championship matches shall be played in an 8-a-side football format, with each team fielding eight players.
3) Under 15 Boys Championship the Matches shall be played in an 11-a-side football format, 
with each team fielding eleven (11) players.
4) The matches shall be played over two halves of 20 minutes, with a 10-minute break.
5) In case of a draw after the end of the regular time, the winner shall be determined by the 
taking kicks from the penalty mark in compliance with the Laws of the Game.
6) Minimum requirements per match: 
a. Under 15 Girls Championship: match shall not start if either team has less than five 
(5) players. 
b. Under 13 Boys Championship: match shall not start if either team has less than five 
(5) players. 
c. Under 15 Boys Championship: match shall not start if either team has less than 
seven (7) players. 
7) The matches shall be played according to the laws decided by the International Football Association Board and promulgated by FIFA.
8) All substitutes must be used in all the group matches so that each player is given an opportunity to play. There is no limit on the number of substitutions, however, the substitution must be performed when the ball is out of the field of play or stopped by the referee.
9) The matches are played in the territory of each Member Association for the national phase and in each Zonal Union for the zonal phase in conformity with the dates fixed by the Member Associations and Zonal Unions and approved by the CAF. CAF reserves the right to amend the dates, kick-off times or the venues of the matches.
10) Each Zonal union is responsible for the process of selecting the host country for the ZonalPhase and shall submit its choice for CAF’s prior approval.
11) Matches are played in daylight or under floodlights.

EXPLAINER: CAF African Schools Football Championship Dates, Venue, Teams

South African national football team coach Hugo Broos said that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) should ban countries that do not have home venues that meet CAF’s minimum requirements.
CAF has banned about 17 nations from playing home games in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers because their stadiums are not up to standard.
Zimbabwe and Lesotho, both in Group C together with South Africa, Benin, Rwanda and Nigeria, played their home matches away.
The Warriors hosted Nigeria on Sunday at Rwanda’s Huye Stadium in Butare, with the match ending 1-1.
Lesotho, who also held Nigeria in their first game in the qualifiers, will be hosting Benin at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa on Tuesday.
<a href="https://www.idiskitimes.co.za/bafana-bafana/broos-caf-should-ban-countries-who-cant-play-at-home/">IDiski Times</a> reported Broos as saying CAF should ban countries like Zimbabwe from qualifiers to force them to expedite the fixing of home venues. Said Broos:

I think Zimbabwe will play their home games in South Africa, so we have a little advantage for that game.
So, what I saw in the past, for example, Liberia played their home game in Morocco, I’m very sorry but this is not correct. I think CAF must do something about this.
I know it is not easy for those countries to have appropriate stadiums because it is something about money, but you can easily say, “In five years, if you don’t have a stadium, then you won’t play CAF games anymore, you don’t play AFCON qualifiers and that of the World Cup”.
But if you say nothing and those things happen, then the competition is not 100% correct anymore.
It is not up to us, but it is the guys up there who have decided this and I hope one day they will decide by putting a period to say, “Okay, if you have not decided on the stadium that you need to have, I’m very sorry, you had those three or four or five years, finished, no qualifiers anymore – no for World Cup or AFCON’. Maybe then, they will do something.”
You saw what happened in Liberia [in March against Bafana], suddenly, they felt that they had a chance to qualify and suddenly there was a stadium.
At the beginning of the competition, there was no stadium, because they played their games in Morocco.
You see the pressure is there that they can do it. I hope one day CAF can decide that “Look guys, that is that, but it is up to you’.”

CAF Should Ban Countries Like Zimbabwe From World Cup Qualifiers, Says Bafana Bafana Coach

Innocent Benza, the Member of Parliament for Mutasa Central, has raised concerns about the government’s timeline for installing bucket seats at the National Sports Stadium. The lack of bucket seats is preventing the stadium from being approved by the continental body CAF for international games. As a result, Zimbabwe is set to host its first international home game in Rwanda. 
The Warriors will kick off their FIFA World Cup qualifier group campaign with a match against Rwanda in Rwanda on November 13 before they host Nigeria in the same country a week later.
Benza expressed the desire of football fans for Zimbabwe to host matches at the National Sports Stadium and questioned why it would take until December for the installation of bucket seats to be completed. The stadium’s condition has also worsened due to its continuous use by Premier Soccer League teams, including Benza’s own club, Herentals Football Club. Benza said:

Soccer is in a serious state of need. December is too far to have a whole government install bucket seats in the Nationals Sports Stadium.
This is a public outcry that our national team must play its games in Zimbabwe. We request that officials from the Sports Ministry put all your efforts so we correct the situation at the national sports stadium and have our team play there.

The Harare City Council’s attempts to restore Rufaro Stadium have not been successful. The local government authority has continuously changed deadlines, and some people believe that the renovations done so far are only surface-level improvements.

MP Innocent Benza Concerned Over Govt Timeline For Installing Bucket Seats At National Sports Stadium

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Stadium Inspector Joshua Knipp was in Zimbabwe last week to assess progress made in renovating the National Sports Stadium and Rufaro Stadium in Harare.
In a statement on Monday, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) said during the inspections, Knipp was accompanied by members of the FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee. It said:

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Stadium Inspector Joshua Knipp was in the country last week Thursday where he inspected the National Sports Stadium and Rufaro Stadium in Harare.
Knipp who was accompanied by members of the FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee (NC) Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Rosemary Mugadza and the FIFA Forward Manager Kudzai Chitima inspected the sporting facilities Thursday and Friday.
A report is expected to be presented to the association in due course.

The two stadiums were banned from hosting international matches after failing to meet CAF requirements.
Previously, CAF said bucket seats made of an unbreakable and non-flammable material should be installed at the National Sports Stadium.
The stadium owners are also required to install a functional Venue Operations Centre (VOC) with a good overview of the stadium equipped with CCTV monitors.
The VOC should have an override capability over the public address system in case of emergency announcements.
CAF said the stadium should be equipped with modern electronic turnstiles and automated systems.

CAF Inspects Rufaro Stadium, National Sports Stadium

FC Platinum and Bulawayo Chiefs were excluded from the 2023/24 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions, respectively, despite the lifting of the FIFA suspension this month.
This was confirmed by CAF ahead of Tuesday’s draw in Cairo, Egypt.
FC Platinum are Castle Lager Premiership champions while Bulawayo Chiefs are the Chibuku Super Cup winners.
Chairman of the recently-appointed ZIFA normalisation committee, Lincoln Mutasa said Zimbabwe will only be able to send teams to the CAF inter-club competitions next year.
Mutasa said that when the clubs were slotted in, Zimbabwe was still under FIFA suspension. He said:

The teams were entered when we were under suspension. We will only be able to send teams to the inter-club competitions next year.

However, the Warriors have been included in the FIFA 2026 World Cup African Zone qualifiers.

FC Platinum, Bulawayo Chiefs Excluded From CAF Competitions

The Gerald Mlotshwa-led Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction over recent engagements with officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA.
The officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA were in the country this week on a fact-finding mission.
In a statement released on Thursday night, SRC said it held “productive meetings” with the officials and they broadly agreed on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation. Reads the statement:

Throughout the week, FIFA and CAF engaged with various stakeholders and officials involved in Zimbabwean football to gather their perspectives.
A common sentiment among these stakeholders was the need for strong, lawful governance structures to support Zimbabwe’s return to international football, as well as a commitment to implementing necessary reforms for the sport’s future development and success in the country.
The SRC has also been involved in productive discussions with FIFA and CAF, including COSAFA, with a mutual goal of resolving the issues surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The conversations have been marked by good faith from all parties and a genuine interest in advancing solutions.
The outcomes of these discussions have been promising, with the SRC, CAF, and FIFA generally agreeing on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation.
… The commission deeply appreciates the firm support and positions taken by all stakeholders involved in this week’s consultations.
These stakeholders have been clear about the changes needed in Zimbabwean football and have collectively called for a swift resolution to ZIFA’s challenges.

The SRC did not reveal the issues they agreed on with representatives from both FIFA and CAF.

SRC Optimistic After Meeting FIFA, CAF Delegation

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed the visit to Zimbabwe of a delegation consisting of FIFA and CAF officials this week.
The delegation is on a fact-finding mission to map the way forward following ZIFA’s ban from international football in 2022.
The PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele said they have been invited to interact with the delegation during its three-day visit to Zimbabwe.
Ndebele was quoted by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200010303/fifa-visit-excites-psl">NewsDay</a> as saying they will try to convince FIFA to lift Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football. Said Ndebele:

This serves to confirm that as PSL we have been invited to attend a FIFA/CAF mission which will be in Zimbabwe from April 17 to April 19, 2023. Our meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
We are excited as the PSL that we have the privilege of meeting the FIFA/CAF delegation.
All the club chairpersons who are the governors for the PSL have been invited and have confirmed their attendance.
This is an important meeting. We are excited and looking forward to positive engagement with the FIFA/CAF mission so that we re-engage and get our football back on track.

We will present all the challenges that we are facing in our football; hopefully, we will then get FIFA to relook at the suspension of Zimbabwe and we are back to the football family.

The FIFA/CAF delegation includes Sarah Solemane, senior MA Governance Manager, Solomon Mudege, head of development programmes Africa and regional office development manager South Africa, David Fani.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe on 25 February 2022 for alleged third-party interference after the SRC had suspended the ZIFA board led by Felton Kamambo on 16 November 2021.
The other ZIFA executives suspended are Philemon Machana, Bryton Malandule and Joseph Mamutse.

Premier Soccer League Officials Invited To Meet FIFA/CAF Delegation

A six-member FIFA delegation is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Monday morning in a move that may culminate in the readmission of Zimbabwe to the international football community.
The delegation, which includes officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will meet the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).
The FIFA and CAF officials will spend three days in the country.
The <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/fifa-descend-on-zim">Sunday Mail</a> reported that FIFA head of development programmes in Africa, Solomon Mudege; the senior member associations governance manager, Sarah Solemale and David Fani, who heads the FIFA regional office for Southern Africa, are among the officials expected in Zimbabwe.
CAF director of member associations Sarah Mukuna and COSAFA president Artur de Almeida e Silva are part of the delegation.
The report says there is a possibility of FIFA appointing a Normalisation Committee to oversee the reform process, which would then culminate in elections to choose a new leadership. The Sunday Mail reported a source as saying:

As you know by now, FIFA and SRC have been discussing ZIFA matters continuously over the last year, with most of those meetings being virtual.
Only two weeks ago, another virtual meeting between the parties was held and it seems that was the breakthrough indaba in that the idea of a Normalisation Committee seemed to have gained traction.
The FIFA delegation wants to take time to hear from the SRC board on the situation at ZIFA and get an on-the-ground appreciation of what is obtaining in Zimbabwe football.
It appears that all the key parties to the discussions agreed that at this point the best solution for ZIFA is a Normalisation Committee that will oversee fresh elections within ZIFA, as well as ensure that the new executive implements the roadmap.

FIFA Delegation Expected In Zimbabwe On Monday

Zimbabwe has been barred from participating in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions in the 2022/23 season.
CAF excluded Zimbabwean teams from the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws held in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.
The development comes after the Sports and Recreational Commission (SRC) failed to meet FIFA conditions for the world football governing body to overturn Zimbabwe’s suspension from international tournaments.
Zimbabwe has already been barred from participating in the AFCON, CHAN and COSAFA Cup tournaments following the suspension.
The first round of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches will take place between September 9 and September 18, while the second round matches are set for October 7 till October 16.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football early this year after the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board in November last year in violation of FIFA statutes that prohibit third-party interference.
FIFA has since directed the SRC to reinstate the suspended board for the world football governing board to lift the suspension on Zimbabwe.
However, SRC says it is not bothered by the suspension but will continue to implement what it calls long-term reforms to clean up local football.

CAF Excludes Zimbabwe From Inter-club Competitions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says the recently appointed ZIFA executive led by Gift Banda is illegitimate and should, among other things, stop using the funds deposited by CAF or FIFA in the ZIFA bank accounts.
In a letter dated 20 July 2022, addressed to the Secretary General of ZIFA, CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba said ZIFA’s suspension is still in place and will only be lifted once the stipulated conditions are met.
The conditions include SRC reinstating Felton Kamambo and Joseph Mamutse and the commission withdrawing a court case against the pair. Pindula News is publishing the letter from CAF to ZIFA below:

<h2>RE: Recent Developments and Status in Zimbabwean Football</h2>
We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 14 June 2022.
We refer to the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 suspending ZIFA on the basis of Article 14 paragraphs 1 i) and 3 of the FIFA Statutes as well as Article 16 paragraph 1, of the FIFA Statutes as ratified by the FIFA Congress meeting of 31 March 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
The above decision is clear and unequivocal that the suspension will only be lifted if:
(i) The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) repeals the decision of 26 November 2020 suspending the ZIFA General Secretary
(ii) SRC repeals the SRC decision of 16 November 2021 suspending the ZIFA Board
(iii) SRC repeals the SRC decision of 17 December 2021 setting up the restructuring committee
(iv) FIFA receives confirmation from ZIFA and its management, led by President Felton Kamambo and General Secretary Joseph Mamutse, that ZIFA and its premises are once more under their full and unconditional control; and
(v) SRC withdraws the court case against the ZIFA President, three other ZIFA Board members and the General Secretary for allegedly misusing ZIFA’s letterheads
However, CAF’s attention has since been drawn to a number of developments, inter alia:
(i) An Extraordinary General Assembly meeting convened on 23 April 2022 during which a decision was apparently taken to revoke the mandate of three Executive Committee members including the President Mr. Kamambo and two others Mr. Malandule and Mr. Machana.
(ii) A letter dated 24 May 2022 from the SRC to ZIFA lifting its suspension of ZIFA’s Secretary General but subjecting the same to certain unspecified conditions.
(iii) A letter dated 8 June 2022 from SRC lifting the suspensions of three Executive Committee members, Mrs. Barbara Chikosi and Messrs. Farai Jere and Sugar Chagonda whilst confirming that BDO Chartered Accountants have commenced their forensic audit into the financial and operational affairs of ZIFA; and
(iv) That with the assistance of the SRC, a committee claiming to be the bona fide ZIFA Executive Committee has made themselves signatories to ZIFA’s bank accounts and is subsequently transacting the proceeds deposited by CAF and FIFA.
We would like to inform you as follows:
1. The SRC’s letters dated 24 May and 8 June 2022 contravene Article 7 paragraph 1(a) and 
(g) of the CAF Statutes which respectively state as follows:
“ARTICLE 7
MEMBERS’ OBLIGATIONS
Members of CAF shall have the following obligations:
a)To respect, and ensure that their own members respect, at all times unreservedly the principles of ethics and fair play enacted by CAF and FIFA, the principles of integrity and sportsmanship as well as the Statutes, regulations, decisions and directives of CAF and FIFA.
g) To manage their affairs independently and free of intrusions and interferences of any kind by any person or body”
2. None of the conditions stated in the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 as 
ratified by the FIFA Congress on 31 March 2022 has been fully and unconditionally met.
3. Pursuant to Article 16 paragraph 3 of the FIFA Statutes, “A suspended member association may not exercise any of its membership rights.”, such rights being defined in Article 13 of the FIFA Statutes.
Consequently, CAF hereby directs ZIFA to immediately cease using and accessing any funds deposited by FIFA or CAF in the ZIFA accounts.
Please note that a breach of this directive will be regarded as a violation of the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 as ratified by the FIFA Congress on 31 March 2022 and may subject ZIFA or the officials involved to disciplinary sanctions.
CAF will continue to monitor the developments in Zimbabwean football.

CAF Says New ZIFA Executive Is Illegitimate

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) says Zimbabwe will not participate in this year’s tournament unless FIFA lifts the country’s suspension from international football.
The 2022 edition of the COSAFA Cup competition will be held from 5-17 July in Durban, South Africa.
The draw has been scheduled for 31 May when the teams that will participate in the tournament will be announced. COSAFA said on Monday:

As things stand, Zimbabwe will not be on hand to compete for the title this year after their suspension by FIFA prohibits them from taking part in any football activities.
However, should that suspension be lifted, they will be welcomed to the tournament with open arms, having had such a rich history in the COSAFA Cup down the years and provided so much quality talent for the region.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expelled Zimbabwe from the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
CAF made the drastic move after Zimbabwe failed to have its suspension by FIFA lifted.

Zimbabwe Barred From 2022 COSAFA Cup Tournament

The Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry says the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has been in constant communication with CAF and FIFA over the past two years to resolve the various challenges bedevilling local football.
In a statement, Coventry said the SRC wanted to respect the sovereign laws of Zimbabwe while at the same time respecting CAF and FIFA statutes.
She said after nearly two years of communication, there has been no change on the part of the ZIFA board.
On the contrary, the ZIFA board are still in and out of court fighting charges of corruption, bribery, and now new allegations and cases of sexual harassment and abuse of power.
Earlier this week, FIFA banned Zimbabwe and demanded an immediate reversal of the SRC suspension of the Felton Kamambo led ZIFA board.
In a statement on Thursday, 24 February, FIFA said Zimbabwe had lost the membership rights that include developmental programmes or training from it or continental football management body CAF.
The ban also bars football clubs from representing the country in continental competitions such as the CAF champions league and CAF confederations cup.
Coventry said the decision to suspend the ZIFA board was not taken lightly but was done for the love of the game. She said:

When we received these allegations of sexual harassment and abuse last year and found out that nothing had been done to protect the women, it was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
This is what lead to the suspension of the ZIFA Board and Secretary-General.
…. We knew that it might come at a cost, and we are willing to take that risk because sometimes we have to fight for the voiceless, the vulnerable and the powerless.
We will stand next to these strong brave women who have come forward.
We will stand next to our athletes and ensure they have the right opportunities to drive their sport forward.
We will do anything to ensure this sport we all so dearly love is protected and is taken to new heights.
We want to find a way forward with CAF and FIFA, that allows for us as Zimbabwe to thrive as a football nation.

Coventry said that while FIFA and CAF uphold their own statutes, the SRC must do its job to protect and serve the country’s athletes.
She asserted that the SRC will not reinstate alleged sexual predators and individuals fighting legal court cases.

Coventry Responds To FIFA Ban, Says SRC Won't Reinstate Sexual Predators

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) says it will not reverse its decision to suspend the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board despite the Confederation of African Football (CAF) calling for its reinstatement.
SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led board on 16 November 2021 on a litany of allegations that include sexual harassment of female referees, incompetence and failure to account for public funds.
SRC board chairman Gerald Mhlotswa and the minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry held a Zoom meeting with CAF secretary-general, Véron Mosengo-Omba on Friday.
During the meeting, Mosengo-Omba, a former regional manager of FIFA’s member associations division for Africa and the Caribbean, demanded that Kamambo and his board be reinstated.
Mosengo-Omba reportedly claimed that the fraud and sexual harassment charges laid against the ZIFA board members were just allegations.
In a statement on Saturday, Mlotshwa said by insisting that the suspended ZIFA board be reinstated, CAF mistakenly believes that FIFA statutes rule supreme over Zimbabwe law. Said Mlotshwa:

I find it incredible that CAF continues to insist that we reinstate fraudsters and sexual predators, who have cases pending before the courts in Zimbabwe. CAF appears to think that FIFA statutes rule supreme over Zimbabwe law.

Mlotshwa also accused Mosengo-Omba of using a disrespectful term against him and Sports minister Coventry. He added:

I was extremely concerned when Vernon referred to the minister and me as ‘you Africans’ in a derogatory tone of voice. I recorded the entire conversation.
I now know why FIFA find it difficult to deal conclusively with corruption, racism and sexual harassment in football. It’s a part of their culture. That much is obvious.

ZIFA board members, namely Farai Jere, Sugar Chagonda and Barbara Chikosi have accepted the suspension but others have remained defiant.
Kamambo and other executive committee members Philimon Machana and Stanley Chapeta and secretary-general Joseph Mamutse, have continued to defy their suspensions.
Last Saturday Kamambo, board member finance Philemon Machana and Chapeta were arrested on fraud charges and are currently out on bail pending trial.

CAF Orders SRC To Reinstate Kamambo

South African television channel, SABC Sport (Openview 124), is set to broadcast the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup.
The CAF Champions League kicks off on 11 February 2022 – 29 May 2022 and Zimbabwean football fans can watch their South African-based players who play for Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu and other top African clubs in key fixtures broadcasted on SABC Sport.
Top African football teams include Al Ahly (10-times champions), Zamalek (5-times champions), TP Mazembe (5-times champions) and Raja Blanca (3-times champions).
The CAF Confederations Cup kicks off on 13 February 2022 – 3 April 2022 which also includes South African giants, Orlando Pirates.

SABC Sport To Broadcast CAF Club Competitions

The National Sports Stadium (NSS) will be banned from hosting senior teams’ international matches and other CAF Men’s Inter-Club Competitions after the Warriors’ final 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia to be played in November.
The stadium was inspected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s Tshegofatso Moiloa on 13 and 14 October and its temporary approval will expire next month.
The ban will be in place until outstanding issues noted in previous reports have been addressed.
According to ZIFA, areas that require urgent attention for the stadium to meet required standards include:
Individual seats in the stadium
No fixed seats available. There should be fixed seats in all sectors in the stadium. Seats for spectators must be individual, fixed (e.g. to the floor), separated from one another, shaped, numbered, made of an unbreakable and non-flammable material, and have a backrest of a minimum height of thirty (30) cm when measured from the seat.
Electronic Turnstiles
The stadium should be equipped with modern electronic turnstiles and automated systems. Venue Operations Centre (VOC) The stadium must have a functional Venue Operations Centre (VOC) with a good overview of the stadium equipped with CCTV monitors.
It should have an override capability over Public Address System in case of emergency announcements. The VOC should be staffed and serve as command centre for security and safety operations.
Renovation of B – Arena 
The B Arena of the stadium should be renovated in line with CAF Training field infrastructure requirements.
Other facilities in the stadium are still not up to the required CAF standard
The stadium needs to be fully modernized and brought up to the international standard requirements.
ZIFA have communicated CAF’s latest decision to the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC).

ZIFA Outlines Areas That Need Attention For NSS To Get CAF Approval

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) the green light to host the Warriors’ final 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier (WCQ) against Ethiopia at the National Sports Stadium.
However, after the dead rubber match set for next month, the National Sports Stadium will be automatically barred from hosting senior teams’ international matches as it does not meet the required standards. 
In a statement this Monday, ZIFA said it has since communicated the latest development to the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC). Said ZIFA:

The Confederation of African Football has granted Zimbabwe’s National Sports Stadium a one-match approval to host senior teams international matches.
Thereafter, the stadium will be automatically barred from hosting senior teams’ international matches and other CAF Men’s Inter-Club Competitions until outstanding issues noted in previous inspection reports have been addressed.
This follows the inspection of the facility by CAF’s Tshegofatso Moiloa on 13 &amp; 14 October. CAF indicated that the Warriors’ home World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in November will be the last game that we will play at home.
The National Sports Stadium was initially banned from hosting senior teams’ matches in 2020 but was provisionally cleared later in the same year.
Since then, CAF has been using reports from inspections conducted by ZIFA to extend the temporary approval.

ZIFA said areas that need urgent attention include individual seats in the stadium, electronic turnstiles, venue operations centre (VOC), and renovation of the B-Arena.

CAF To Ban NSS After Warriors Final 2022 WCQ

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sent its representative to Zimbabwe to conduct an inspection at the National Sports Stadium (NSS).
CAF stadium inspector, Tshegofatso Moiloa, will assess the suitability of the giant stadium to hosting international football competitions today and tomorrow.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), in a statement said the inspection will determine if the stadium is suitable for the Warriors’ final home match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup match against Ethiopia. The statement read:

CAF stadium inspector, Tshegofatso Moiloa will inspect NSS on 13 &amp; 14 October in respect of the remaining World Cup qualifiers. The current status of the stadium will determine its suitability to host our World Cup qualifier vs Ethiopia in November.

Meanwhile, the match between Zimbabwe and Ethiopia has since been reduced to a dead rubber after the two teams were eliminated in the Group G race, with two rounds of play remaining.
The Warriors are set to travel to South Africa tentatively on 11 November, before returning home for the final match against Ethiopia three days later.
The National Sports Stadium is currently banned by FIFA to host international matches after it failed to meet minimum requirements.
However, Zimbabwe was granted temporary approval to play the World Cup games on home soil in the wake of the COVID-19 disruptions.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has stripped eight countries of home advantage in next month’s World Cup qualifiers (WCQ) after their grounds were deemed unfit at the international level.
Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Djibouti, Guinea Bissau, Malawi, Mali, Namibia and Niger have all had matches moved to neutral grounds at the start of the group phase of Africa’s qualifiers for the next World Cup in Qatar.

Eight African Teams Forced To Host WCQ On Neutral Venues

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) spokesperson and club licensing manager Xolisani Gwesela on Friday undertook an inspection of the National Sports Stadium (NSS), which has been under CAF’s scrutiny for some time.
According to a statement by ZIFA, Gwesela inspected the stadium before he compiles a report that will be used by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to determine the venue of the Warriors’ World Cup qualifier against South Africa in June.
The inspection came a few days after ZIFA was fined US$2 000 by CAF for technical infractions noted at the National Sports Stadium during the Warriors’ match against Zambia on 29 March.
CAF cited the absence of bucket seats, and the general uncleanliness of the stadium as the basis for the sanction.
The Warriors’ match against Algeria played in November last year and against Zambia played last month at the stadium were played under temporary approval granted by CAF in October 2020.
The stadium had been barred from hosting senior men’s international matches in March 2020.
There are concerns that the Warriors could be forced to play their home matches away from home until the National Sports Stadium is fixed.

Billionaire Patrice Motsepe was yesterday voted the new CAF president News24 reports. Motsepe’s victory was announced yesterday in Rabat, Morroco after the election.
In his acceptance speech, Motsepe said African football will enjoy success when we all work together:
<blockquote>Africa needs collective wisdom, but also the exceptional talent and wisdom of every (national football association) president and every member nation. When we all work together, football in Africa will experience success and growth that it has not enjoyed in the past.</blockquote>
Last week it emerged that FIFA boss Gianni Infantino <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/06/25/fifa-boss-gianni-infantino-invites-chiyangwa-to-watch-2018-world-cup-final-in-russia/">had struck a deal with Augustin Senghor and Ahmed Yahya</a>, paving the way for Motsepe to become the continent’s football governing body’s boss.
Motsepe announced his candidature and last month went on to present his case using a 10 point manifesto which included the following according to News24:
