Two people were killed and one person injured in a tragic accident involving an Irizar Mtethi bus and a Toyota Fortuner.
The collision occurred just after midnight at the 227-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road in Makhado.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the accident was triggered when the bus struck a donkey, causing it to swerve into oncoming traffic and collide head-on with the Toyota Fortuner.
At the time of the incident, the bus had two passengers on board, while the Toyota Fortuner was carrying one passenger. The ZRP said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five of the seven victims of the Inter Africa Bus accident which occurred at the 330-kilometre peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road on Sunday morning.
Police said the bus, which had 43 passengers on board, rammed into the back of a stationary Freightliner truck with no passengers on board at around 3:30 AM.
Seven people died on the spot while 22 others were injured. Of the 22 victims who were injured, six were treated and discharged and 16 others were admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
The victims are Mutanga Brian, a male adult of Bocha, Marange, Manyise Madubeko (45), a male adult of 4th Street, Bulawayo, Ncube Sinqobile (43), a female adult of Xanti Village, Esigodini, Muchemwa Matienga (62), a male adult of Lasper Road, Harrisvale, Bulawayo and Mafukidze Edmen Collin (39), a male adult of Overspill Epworth.
The other two victims were yet to be identified by their next of kin.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed another road traffic accident which occurred on Sunday at around 1:30 AM at the 72-kilometre peg along Harare-Wedza Road.
The driver of a Nissan pick-up vehicle was killed while the passenger was injured when the vehicle veered off the road before hitting a stationary Scania truck with three passengers on board. Said Nyathi:

ZRP Releases Names Of Victims In Sunday’s Inter Africa Bus Accident

Seven people lost their lives in a tragic road traffic accident involving an Inter Africa bus and a truck along the Harare-Bulawayo Road on Sunday morning.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police, confirmed the accident, adding that the total number of injured victims is still being assessed.
He said that the bus collided with the rear of a stationary truck at the 330-kilometre mark on the Harare-Bulawayo Road around 3:30 AM. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

She said that the bus, which was travelling from Bulawayo to Gwanda, was following a Nissan Liberty when the driver suddenly applied the emergency brakes to avoid hitting a group of donkeys.
To avoid crashing into the Nissan Liberty, the bus driver swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a kombi that was travelling from Gwanda to Bulawayo. Said Inspector Mangena:

According to a statement from Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the bus driver lost control while attempting to overtake a haulage truck at the 165 km peg. The bus veered off the road to the right, overturned, and came to rest on its left side.
Tragically, one female adult died at the scene, while twenty-five students and six adults sustained injuries and were transported to Rusape General Hospital for treatment. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

Among the injured, more than thirty passengers were injured, with twelve in serious condition. Said Mathye:

10 Killed, 30 Injured As A Mzansi Express Bus Travelling From Zimbabwe To Johannesburg Overturns In Limpopo

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the victims who died in a bus accident on Friday evening in Masvingo.
According to ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the accident occurred around 4:30 PM on the Masvingo-Zano Road.
A Chikozho bus travelling from Masvingo to Topora with 105 passengers (75 seated and 30 standing) went off the road while negotiating a steep gradient, hit a rock, and overturned.
Initially, the police reported that seven people were killed in the accident. However, on Saturday, the death toll was revised upwards to nine.
In total, nine (9) people lost their lives in the tragic Masvingo bus accident.
Comm Nyathi said that the victims of the Masvingo bus accident were identified by their next of kin as listed:

Masvingo Bus Accident Death Toll Rises To Nine

The Anglican Diocese of Manicaland Church of the Province of Central Africa (CPCA) has released the names of eight of its members who lost their lives when a Pashonlink bus they were travelling on caught fire and burnt to a shell along the Nyabandza-Gandanzara Road in Rusape on Sunday, June 16.
The bus had 65 members of the Anglican Manicaland Diocese Church on board travelling to their rural homes in Sherukuru in Mutasa District from a pilgrimage at Bernard Mizeki shrine in Marondera, Mashonaland East Province.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 18, the Anglican Church said that the deceased persons are:

Eight Anglican Pilgrims Killed In Bus Inferno Named

The government has cancelled the operating permit of Passion Link Coaches after one of its buses was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of eight Anglican Diocese of Manicaland members on Sunday evening.
The accident near Gandanzara Business Centre, about 44 kilometres along the Nyabadza-Gandanzara Road.
The Anglican church members were returning from their Bernard Mzeki shrine in Marondera when the bus caught fire resulting in eight people being burnt beyond recognition while eleven others were injured, three of them seriously.
They were travelling to their rural homes in Sherukuru in Mutasa District, Manicaland Province.
<a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/update-govt-cancels-passion-link-bus-licence/">The Manica Post</a> reported that the bus experienced several mechanical faults along the way, including a faulty clutch.
On approaching the 26km peg along the road, passengers noticed some smoke coming out of the bus engine and alerted the driver – Ray Donald Mugari (40).
The driver stopped the bus to investigate the source of the smoke.
Mugari allegedly opened the engine cover located inside the bus near the passengers’ door, and immediately a fireball came out of the engine and quickly engulfed the whole bus.
The driver and other passengers escaped from the burning bus through the door and emergency exit windows but the eight were trapped inside, and burnt to death.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona, visited the scene of the accident on Sunday, before visiting the survivors at Rusape General Hospital.
He said the Government has revoked Passion Link Coaches’ operating licence with immediate effect after the owner admitted that the bus that was involved in the accident had no certificate of fitness. Said Mhona:

The bus operator has openly admitted that the bus had no certificate of fitness, meaning it was not roadworthy.
A bus that does not have a certificate of fitness should not be used to ferry people, and the police will arrest both the bus owner and driver as part of the investigations.
The other buses from this company will not be allowed to ply our roads again with immediate effect.
We have cancelled their operating permit, which means we will not allow them to ply our roads to carry people.
If they had complied with the traffic laws, which do not allow buses without a certificate of fitness to ply our roads, this accident could have been avoided.

Seven (7) people died when a Passion Link bus carrying pilgrims from Bernard Mizeki caught fire on Sunday.
National Shrines chairperson, Reverend Father Edwin Selemani was cited as saying 14 others were hospitalised and three were critically Injured.
The annual pilgrimage takes place at the Bernard Mizeki shrine in Marondera and draws Anglicans from across Zimbabwe, the southern African region, and beyond.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) also confirmed the accident in a post on their official X page. Police said:

A <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Falcon_College/">Falcon College</a> student named Aidan O’Donovan died today in school bus accident. The accident reportedly occurred just before the tollgate on the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway.
The school bus was reportedly carrying 56 students and was returning from rugby tournament at St George’s College in Harare.
What caused the accident has not been revealed but reports say it occurred at a placed known to be a “dark spot”. The stretch of road is reportedly even referred to as ‘Danger’.
The school released a statement:

We have chartered a flight for Aidan and Lana’s parents, and they are en route to Bulawayo now. Please keep the O’Donovan family, and everyone who loved Aidan in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Falcon College Student Dies in School Bus Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of three of the four victims of a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 32-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road near Mutangadura on Thursday, 06 June 2024 at around 12.50 PM.
The collision happened when a haulage truck suddenly switched lanes in front of a speeding bus
In a statement issued this Friday, the ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a Freightliner truck, which was travelling towards Marondera and occupying the outer lane, turned right onto the inner lane, in front of a Tenda bus which was travelling towards Marondera with 56 passengers on board.
The Tenda Bus, which was about to overtake the haulage truck, hit the trailer of the truck before swerving into the oncoming traffic lane.
As a result, the Tenda Bus collided with a Zhong Tong bus owned by Phils and Pats Bus Services which was travelling towards Harare with 25 passengers on board.
Four people died in the accident while 14 others were injured.
Three of the four victims are Kennedy Ngoshi (40), a male adult of Zengeza, Chitungwiza, Plaxedes Kasambwa (36), a female adult of Nyabadza, Rusape, and Monica Katena (54), a female adult of Kuwadzana Extension, Harare.
The other victim was yet to be identified by her next of kin.
Added Commissioner Nyathi:

Drivers should not try to overtake in situations which are clearly not safe to do so.

Police Release More Details On Harare-Mutare Road Tenda Bus Accident

Four people were killed in a road traffic accident involving two buses and a haulage truck which occurred along Harare-Mutare Road on Thursday afternoon.
In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said a Tenda bus collided with a haulage truck and a Phils and Pats bus at the 32-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road near Mutangadura. Reads the statement:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred this afternoon at the 32-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road near Mutangadura in which four people were killed when a Tenda bus collided with a haulage truck and a Phils and Pats bus.
The Tenda bus was on the way to Mutare whilst a Phils and Pats bus was on the way to Harare.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Marondera Provincial Hospital mortuary for post mortem whilst the injured were referred to Marondera Provincial Hospital and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
Police officers are currently at the scene. The total number of passengers in the two buses is yet to be confirmed. More details will be released in due course.

Four People Killed As Tenda Bus Collides With Phils And Pats Bus, And A Haulage Truck

The Government has lifted the suspension on three public transport operators’ licences, Blue Circle, City Bus and Simlex Coaches, following a review of their operations.
Blue Circle and City Bus were suspended from operating in March this year after a horror crash involving coaches from the two companies claimed 13 lives and left scores injured along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.
The collision occurred when a City Bus coach, carrying 25 passengers, struck a donkey and veered into the path of a Blue Circle bus with 43 passengers on board, leading to a head-on collision.
Simlex was also ordered to suspend operations in March after one of the company’s coaches was involved in an accident on 9 March, in Western Cape, South Africa, which resulted in the death of 13 Zimbabweans and injuries to 12 others.
The bus was travelling from Harare to Cape Town when it collided with a haulage truck along the Hex River Pass, approximately 140 kilometres before Cape Town.
Addressing journalists in Harare, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said that the three companies had multiple breaches of license terms and conditions. He said:
Swaymo Enterprises Pvt Ltd runs Blue Circle while City Bus is operated by Wipeco Investments Pvt Ltd.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development wishes to advise members of the public that it has lifted the suspension of the licences for operation of all omnibuses belonging to Swaymo Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd; Wipeco Investments (Pvt) Ltd and Simlex Coaches (Pvt) Ltd with effect from 3 June, 2024.
The said operators breached the terms and conditions of the licenses issued to them, leading to fatal road crashes that occurred on 9 and 16 March 2024 in Western Cape, South Africa, and in Beitbridge respectively.
They operated public service vehicles without valid motor and passenger insurance, certificates of roadworthiness, road service permits, installed speed monitoring and limiting devices, and employed drivers without the requisite competencies.

According to a statement posted on the Ministry’s X page, all transport operators will be placed under heightened “Compliance monitoring”, using ICT tools to track compliance each time they pass through toll checkpoints. Said Mhona:

Going forward bus operators will be placed on a Compliance Monitoring Programme to continually assess adherence to regulatory requirements and further reiterated that the Ministry will make use of ICT tools to monitor compliance of all transport operators to ensure regulatory violations are recorded in real-time as vehicles pass through tolling points.
Hon Mhona further condemned the recent acts of public violence at bus loading bays and ranks in Mutare saying such actions severely impact on safety and security of commuters, bus crews and members of the public, especially children, women and people with disabilities.

Govt Lifts Suspension On Three Bus Operators Two Months After Fatal Crashes

One person was killed on Saturday, while 15 others were injured when an AVM DAF bus they were travelling on was involved in an accident at the 23 km peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the accident on Sunday afternoon, saying the bus had 68 passengers on board.
The bus swerved to the left side of the road, hit a pedestrian, and then struck a tree before overturning once and landing on its right side. The ZRP said:

The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 11/05/24 at the 23 km peg along Harare-Mukumbura Road in which one person died while 15 others were injured.
An AVM DAF bus with 68 passengers on board swerved to the left side of the road and hit a pedestrian before hitting a tree. Resultantly, the bus overturned once and landed on its right side.
The pedestrian sustained serious head injuries and he was taken to Concession Hospital where he died on admission.
The body of the victim was taken to Concession Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while the injured were taken to Bindura Hospital and Concession Hospital for treatment.

On Zimbabwe’s roads, an average of five people tragically lose their lives every day due to road traffic accidents. This translates to approximately 153 persons killed each month.
According to road safety experts and the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ), some of the primary causes of road traffic accidents are vehicle defects, speeding, animals, following too closely, driver fatigue, failure to give way and turning in front of oncoming traffic.

Bus Carrying 68 Passengers Overturns: 1 Fatality, 15 Injured

A Timboon Coaches bus caught fire and burnt to a shell along Harare-Chirundu Road on Wednesday, 03 April.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, saying the bus was carrying 20 passengers en route to Magunje.
In a post on X (Twitter), the ZRP said all passengers escaped from the bus and no one was injured. Police said:

The ZRP confirms a fire incident in which a Timboon bus was burnt to a shell at the 180-kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu Road on 03/04/24.
The bus was carrying 20 passengers en route to Magunje when the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine through the gear lever. The passengers escaped from the bus and no one was injured.

In April 2023, a Timboon Coaches bus accident claimed the lives of twelve (12) people, including the driver after it crashed on the 5km peg along the Murammbinda-Chivhu Road
Speaking at the time, ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the driver lost control of the bus before it veered off the road and crashed. He said the Harare-bound Timboom Coaches bus had 40 passengers on board.
Yesterday, Asst Comm Nyathi released road traffic accident statistics for the 2024 Easter Holiday which showed that 286 road traffic accidents occurred in 2024—a slight decrease from the 288 incidents in 2023.
He also revealed that during the 2024 Easter holidays, 27 people lost their lives in road accidents, compared to 29 fatalities in 2023. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

Timboon Coaches Bus Burnt To A Shell, All Passengers Escape Unhurt

Forty-five (45) pilgrims who were travelling from Botswana’s capital Gaborone to an Easter conference at the St Engenas Zion Christian Church in Moria outside Polokwane, South Africa died in a bus accident on Thursday, March 28.
According to South African public broadcaster <a href="https://www.sabcnews.com/sabcnews/928991-2/">SABC</a>, the crash happened on the Mamatlakala Mountain pass between Mokopane and Marken in the north-eastern Limpopo Province, around 300km (190 miles) north of Johannesburg. The bus fell 50 metres into a ravine and burst into flames.
An eight-year-old girl, the only survivor, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Rescue operations went on late into Thursday evening, with some of those killed reportedly hard to reach amid the debris.
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa conveyed his condolences to the government of Botswana and the families and friends of the deceased.
Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, who went to the scene of the incident, extended her “heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragic bus crash”. She said:

Girl (8) Only Survivor As 45 ZCC Pilgrims Killed In Bus Crash In South Africa

The death toll from Saturday’s road accident in Beitbridge involving two buses has risen to eleven from nine after two passengers died in hospital.
The collision occurred when a City Bus coach, carrying 25 passengers, struck a donkey and veered into the path of a Blue Circle bus with 43 passengers on board, leading to a head-on collision.
Seven passengers died on the spot, and two more succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at Beitbridge District Hospital.
The death toll has now risen to eleven from the initial count of nine, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/beitbridge-accident-death-toll-rises-to-11/">The Herald</a> has cited Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Evelyn Ndlovu, as saying.
Ndlovu visited some of the survivors admitted to United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) on Monday, 18 March.
Both the Government and bus operators have pledged to assist the victims’ families by covering medical and funeral expenses.
Ndlovu said the Government is processing relevant documents for the repatriation of a South African national who also lost their life in the accident.
Blue Circle operations manager, Nicholas Gowo, assured that they would cover all costs for the families who lost their loved ones and also handle the medical bills of the survivors.
Sam Matanda, operations manager for City Bus, expressed their commitment to assisting in every possible way, acknowledging the sadness of losing lives in the accident and mourning with the affected families.

Beitbridge Bus Collision Death Toll Rises To 11

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five of the nine victims who tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision near Beitbridge.
ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the incident occurred on Saturday morning when a City bus, carrying 25 passengers, struck a donkey and veered into the path of a Blue Circle bus with 43 passengers on board.
The fatal accident unfolded at the 267-kilometer peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on March 16, 2024, around 1:20 AM.
Police said seven people died instantly, while two others succumbed to their injuries upon admission at Beitbridge District Hospital.
39 individuals were injured, with nine referred to United Bulawayo Hospital, 12 admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital, and 18 treated and discharged.
The victims’ identities are as follows:
1. Taurai Muketiwa: A male adult employed by Blue Circle Bus Company as an assistant driver.
2. Mudarikwa Netsai (40): A female adult from Chegutu.
3. Rangarirai Mbizvo (43): A female adult from Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge.
4. Miriam Majengu: A female adult from Macheke.
5. Clever Chikare: A male adult from Phase 2 Damafalls, Harare.
The other four victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin. Added Assitant Comm Nyathi:

Police Identify Five Of The Nine Victims Of Beitbridge Buses Collision

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona, has ordered Simlex Transport and Logistics (Pvt) Ltd to suspend operations until the bus company is compliant with all relevant regulations.
This comes after one of the company’s coaches was involved in an accident on Saturday, 9 March, in Western Cape, South Africa, which resulted in the death of 13 Zimbabweans and injuries to 12 others.
The bus was travelling from Harare to Cape Town when it collided with a haulage truck along the Hex River Pass, approximately 140 kilometres before Cape Town.
Mhona said investigations have revealed that Simlex was not authorised to provide the service, therefore, the company will not be allowed to operate until it is fully compliant. He said:

The accident is yet another call to all transport operators, motorists, and members of the public to adhere to road traffic rules and exercise caution on the road.
It is concerning to note that our investigations have revealed that the operator was not authorised to provide this service, thus, I have directed the Commissioner of Road Motor Transportation to implement relevant provisions of the Road Motor Transportation Act [Chapter 13:15], including, among others, suspension of operations until the operator is fully compliant with all the relevant regulatory and policy frameworks.

Western Cape Bus Accident: Transport Minister Orders Simlex To Suspend Operations

The Zimbabwe Embassy in South Africa has deployed a team to assess the needs and ascertain circumstances around a bus accident that claimed the lives of 13 Zimbabweans in the Western Cape Province on Saturday evening.
A Simlex Bus Company coach collided with a commercial truck that was going in the opposite direction, 140km before Cape Town along the Hex River Pass.
The bus was travelling from Harare to Cape Town. The stretch of road on which the accident occurred has sharp curves.
Reports suggest that the driver jumped out of the bus during the collision, but unfortunately, he died as well.
Zimbabwe’s Consular General in Cape Town, Esther Mudambo said the 13 people who perished in the accident were yet to be identified. She said (<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/western-cape-bus-tragedy-latest-zimbabwe-embassy-dispatches-team-to-accident-scene/">via The Herald</a>):

Currently, the Consulate is working flat out to assist the victims of the accident. Preliminary reports indicate that 13 people are confirmed dead, while 12 are still hospitalised, nine are at the Worcester Hospital and three others are hospitalised in Cape Town.
Thirty-eight (38) have since been discharged and further details will be availed in due course.

Zimbabwe Embassy Dispatches Team To Western Cape Bus Accident Scene

A CAG Travellers Coaches conductor has been recorded declaring that their 65 seater buses carry 102 passengers just a few days after another bus belonging to the company killed five passengers in an accident along the Karoi-Binga road.
On Monday, the conductor of a CAG bus operating the Kariba-Harare bus (ADC 0721) was recorded boasting that the bus carried passengers above its stipulated capacity.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona expressed concern over road traffic accidents caused by recklessness and negligence by Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers.
Asked by <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/watch-barely-a-week-after-killing-five-cag-bus-conductor-says-their-65-seater-buses-board-102-while-overloading-on-kariba-harare-route/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> why he was doing so, the conductor said their bus carried more than 100 passengers because they were not concerned about the number of people on it but focused more on the weight their vehicle carried. Said the conductor:

What is your problem? How has what we are doing affected you? This bus carries 102 passengers and anyway we focus on the weight this bus can carry so we are not overloaded.
</blockquote>
The bus loader’s colleague on the same trip, wearing CAG’s Green uniform also took an active role in overloading the bus.
In Chinhoyi over 20 passengers were tricked into boarding the bus. A woman who spoke to NewZimbabwe.com said:

They told us to buy tickets before boarding, and they told us seats were there but now we are being forced to stand to Harare while carrying babies on our backs.
</blockquote>
On Tuesday, Mhona issued a statement warning all transport operators, associations, motorists, and members of the public that stern measures will be taken provided by the country’s laws against those who wantonly and blatantly violate road traffic rules and regulations. He said:

The safety and security of all road users cannot be taken for granted. We will not hesitate to suspend and cancel the licenses of drivers and operators who violate traffic rules and regulations.
We urge all road traffic law enforcement agencies to be on high alert to enforce the road traffic laws and ensure that non-compliant drivers and vehicles do not our roads.
</blockquote>
Mhona’s statement was in response to the viral video which captured a near accident involving a cross-border bus belonging to Mzansi Express, a haulage truck carrying highly flammable gases and other motorists.
He said the driver of the bus violated Sections 51, 52 and 53 of the Road Traffic All [Chapter 13:111 which prohibit driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for others, negligent or dangerous driving and reckless driving.
Meanwhile, CAG Travellers Coaches won the 2023 Best Transport Solution and Management Project with the first runner-up being InterAfrica followed by Trip Trans.
The awards organised by the Chartered Institute of Project Managers Zimbabwe (CIPMZ) were held at a local Harare hotel on 08 December 2023.
CAG Travellers director Afra Nhanhanga received the award under the Zimbabwe Project Management Achievements Awards.

CAG Bus Conductor Says Their 65 Seater Buses Board 102 Passengers

A Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (ZIMTA) bus was involved in a head-on collision with a haulage truck in Macheke on Monday resulting in the death of the bus driver.
The driver Odreck Ndhlovu, was aged 51.
ZIMTA Chief Executive Officer Dr Sifiso Ndlovu confirmed the accident to the union’s <a href="https://www.zimta.org.zw/2024/01/09/zimta-bus-accident-driver-dies/">website</a>. He said:

We report sadly that our ZIMTA bus (Harare) was involved in a fatal head-on collision with a haulage truck in the Macheke area this afternoon (Monday).
It is with great sadness that we lost the driver Odreck Ndhlovu. Ndhlovu was a dedicated worker who lost his life while on duty and we mourn the loss of one of our own.
We grieve with his family which has lost a father, brother, son and breadwinner.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said that over 130 deaths were recorded in road traffic accidents between 15th December 2022 and 8th January 2023.
The majority of road traffic accidents in Zimbabwe are attributed to speeding. The country’s poor road network and defective vehicles also contribute to road carnage.

ZIMTA Bus Accident: Driver Killed In Head-on Collision

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed an accident involving a CAG Travellers and Coaches bus travelling from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls on Friday, 03 November in which scores of people were injured.
Earlier reports <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/11/03/passengers-trapped-in-bus-following-highway-accident/">had indicated that several passengers were trapped inside the bus</a> when it overturned around the Mphahambe area between the Umguza Toll Gate and Tyce Hurst.
In a statement issued on Monday, 06 November, the ZRP said 40 people were injured when the bus veered off the road and overturned before landing on its right side.
Police said the accident occurred at the 34-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road at around 10 AM. Reads the statement:

The ZRP confirms a road traffic accident in which 40 people were injured when a CAG bus with 60 passengers on board veered off the road and overturned before landing on its right side at the 34-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road on 03/11/23 at around 1000 hours. The cause of the crash has not been revealed but overspeeding has often been cited as one of the major causes of bus accidents in Zimbabwe.

40 People Injured In CAG Bus Accident

A CAG Travellers and Coaches bus travelling from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls has reportedly been involved in an accident and several passengers are believed to have been trapped inside.
According to a <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/passengers-trapped-in-bus-following-highway-accident/">Chronicle</a> report, the accident occurred around the Mphahambe area between the Umguza Toll Gate and Tyce Hurst.
Details about the accident are still sketchy but rescue teams were reportedly working frantically to save the trapped passengers.
Again, it is not yet clear if there were any deaths although a number of passengers are said to have been injured.

Passengers Trapped In Bus Following Highway Accident

Police have released the names of six people who were killed in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 10 June 2023 in Dotito at the 181-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the six victims have been identified by their next of kin. They are:

Asst Comm Nyathi urged rivers to be safety conscious and regularly check vehicle tyres to ensure that they meet road conditions.
He also implored bus operators to ensure that public service vehicles do not exceed their stipulated load capacity to safeguard lives on the roads.
The accident when a CAG bus travelling towards Harare burst a front tyre resulting in the bus veering off the road to the left before overturning and landing on its right side.

Police Release Names Of CAG Bus Accident Victims

Seven (7) people were killed while forty-five (45) others were injured in a road traffic accident involving a CAG bus that occurred in Dotito on Saturday morning.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the accident was a result of a front tyre burst that caused the bus to veer off the road before it overturned and landed on its side. ZRP said in a statement:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 10 June 2023 at around 1240 hours at the 181-kilometre peg along Harare-Mukumbura Road where seven people were killed whilst 45 others were injured.
A CAG bus travelling towards Harare burst a front tyre resulting in the bus veering off the road to the left before overturning and landing on its right side.
As a result of the accident, five people died on the spot whilst two others died on admission at Mt Darwin District Hospital.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Mt Darwin District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem whilst the injured are admitted at the same hospital.

Another fatal traffic accident on Saturday claimed the lives of three (3) people and left fifteen (15) others injured at the 137-kilometre point along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
Police said a Toyota Hilux vehicle carrying 17 passengers veered off the road to the left side, overturned, and landed on its left side.
The bodies of those who died were taken to the Kadoma General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations while the injured were also taken to the same hospital where they were receiving treatment.
