A bereaved Gweru family was forced to exhume the presumed remains of its deceased member after burying the wrong body.
<a href="https://newziana.co.zw/2023/12/15/gweru-family-buries-wrong-body/">New Ziana</a> reported that the family was alerted to the mishap by the other grieving family which discovered the body swap during body viewing.
The mix-up involved the bodies of Takudzwa Chipadza and Courage Sibanda, both of whom lost their lives in separate incidents at Mkoba 14 and 16 business centres, respectively.
Police in Midlands Province said that Chipadza’s family collected what it believed to be Takudzwa’s body from Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary on 06 December and proceeded to bury it the next day at Mutasa cemetery in the city.
On the same day, Sibanda’s family collected what it thought was Courage’s body from the same mortuary.
The Sibandas proceeded to Somabhula for the funeral, only to discover that the body wasn’t that of their relative during body viewing. Police said:

The family advised Gweru Provincial Hospital authorities about the incident and Takudzwa’s relatives were engaged.
Upon identification of the body, both families agreed that the body which had been brought back was that of Takudzwa Chipadza. Courage Sibanda had been mistakenly buried (by the wrong family).
Exhumation of Sibanda’s body was then ordered, and done a week later, and the bodies handed to their respective proper families for burial.

The funerals of both were expected to take place on Friday, 15 December.

Gweru Family Buries Wrong Body, Exhumes Grave A Week Later

A Kenyan court has ordered a family of two wives and 13 children to bury their husband on a boundary between their two neighbouring pieces of land to avoid an impending family dispute.
Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo also ordered that the grave should be dug equally from both sides of the land and that both parties should have ease in accessing the graveyard.
The now-deceased’s second wife, Ann Njeri Mbote, was the one who went to court to stop the burial preparations.
She argued that she has not been involved in preparations since the death of her husband with whom they had six children.
The family of the late Christopher Mbote of Kiambu was also ordered to have a Title Deed of that particular piece of land bearing the names of the two wives with whom he had sired a total of 13 children. Ruled CM Atambo:

The Court orders that the deceased Christopher Mbote be buried on a parcel of land known as LR13537/101.
That the place of burial shall be excised from the mother title and a separate title thereof shall be issued in the joint names of the two wives.

Both wives, represented by their lawyers, agreed that the deceased will be buried on 3 February.
Mbote (78), had sired seven children with his first wife, Margret Waithira.
According to his family, he wished to be buried in his rural home in Gatundu.
He was supposed to be buried on Friday before the second wife went to court to block the process.
The first wife had already dug a grave on her property.

A Kenyan family has finally buried the remains of its matriarch after almost two decades of a legal battle over a land dispute.
Esther Nzakwa died on August 31, 2004. She was 93 years old. The body has been lying at Machakos Funeral Home mortuary for 17 years.
Her son, Michael Musau, said they are happy because they have finally laid their mother to rest. He said on Saturday:
<blockquote>Today we are burying our beloved mother who has been in the mortuary for 17 years. I thank all who have assisted us to bring her home. I think most of our siblings, including myself, now feel relieved.</blockquote>
Nzakwa’s body was interred on Saturday at Musau’s compound in Mbuani village, Kola, Machakos county.
Katanga assistant chief Josphat Kyungu told reporters that the case was taken to court by Musau. He said:
<blockquote>The woman’s last born son [Musau] took the case to court demanding that his mother be buried next to their father’s grave. Their father had three wives. The siblings have been battling in court over the issue.</blockquote>
Three armed AP officers escorted the family from the mortuary to the gravesite. The officers stood guard during the burial that took less than an hour in compliance with the government’s COVID-19 protocols.
There was no viewing of the body and speeches were limited to save time.

Kenyan Woman (93) Buried 17 Years Later Over Land Dispute

The ruling Zanu-PF party’s chairman for Manicaland Mike Madiro has urged the party’s supporters to make full use of the funeral of Morgan Tsvangirai to court supporters and benefit Zanu-PF. Tsvangirai who is a former Prime Minister and founding leader of the opposition MDC-T party, died in South Africa last Wednesday after succumbing to cancer. He is expected to be buried tomorrow.  Speaking at an extraordinary provincial co-ordinating committee (PCC) meeting in Mutare on Sunday Madiro said:
<blockquote>Let’s attend the funeral of Morgan Tsvangirai… I am urging you to be vigilant when we attend the funeral and we should not wear our regalia, at the burial of Tsvangirai’s wife, Susan some Zanu PF supporters were beaten up.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa visited the residence of the late former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai in Highlands to pay his respects. The president was accompanied by his wife, first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa and his deputies, General (retired) Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi together with their spouses.
Mnangagwa said that the body of the veteran opposition leader was going to be flown to Buhera, Tsvangirai’s rural home for burial. The president also promised to keep all the promises that he had made to Tsvangirai.  On a previous visit to Tsvangirai, Mnangagwa promised him a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2018/01/20/mnangagwa-give-tsvangirai-lump-sum-payment-highlands-mansion-pledges-pay-medical-bills/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">golden handshake which </a>includes a gratuity, medical cover and the Highlands mansion.  He also reassured Tsvangirai’s mother, Gogo Lydia Tsvangirai that he was at her full disposal if she needed anything. Mnangagwa Says Tsvangirai Will Be Flown To Buhera For Burial, Vows To Fulfill All Promises

The opposition MDC-T has appealed to well-wishers to donate money to help meet Morgan Tsvangirai’s funeral costs. The veteran opposition leader died in South Africa on Wednesday after a long battle with cancer and will be buried on Tuesday in his rural home of Buhera. President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that even though Tsvangirai was not going to be declared a national hero, he was going to get a State assisted funeral as he had served as prime minister during the government of national unity (GNU).
The party later revealed that the support from the state only covered the bare basics and was inadequate. t\There are reports that the Tsvangirai family is being assisted by well-wishers with basic things such as water.
Writing on their Facebook page, MDC Zimbabwe said:

MDC-T Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora said,
<blockquote>For the avoidance of doubt, the burial of President Tsvangirai is taking place on Tuesday in Humanikwa Village in Buhera. This is now final. We regret the inconvenience caused by any earlier contrary announcements.</blockquote>

The burial of the late Minister of State for Masvingo Province and Zanu-PF Politburo member Senator Shuvai Mahofa have been moved from Sunday to Wednesday. Mahofa was declared a national heroine and is set to be buried at the National Heroes Acre. The burial was moved from Sunday after the family requested that the date should be moved to Wednesday to allow President Mugabe to preside over the burial. President Mugabe is currently in South Africa for a Sadc Summit.
Zanu-pf Politburo member Josaya Hungwe confirmed the changes saying:
<blockquote>Initially the date had been set for Sunday, but the family asked that it be changed. We don’t have the power to oppose the wishes of the Mahofa family and we will stand guided by what they want. They want His Excellency President Mugabe to preside over her burial at the National Heroes Acre</blockquote>

Mahofa burial moved to Wednesday, family wants to wait for president to return

Lameck Makwiriramiti, the Harare man who has made waves on social media, says he has no regrets about his actions at the funeral of a woman identified as Mai Tumba.<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/05/02/video-lamecks-graveside-speech-exposes-deceaseds-alleged-misdeeds/#.WQjqIWl97IU" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> Lameck seemingly broke tradition when he spoke about the deceased’s alleged misdeeds when she was being buried.</a> Not only does he not have any regret, but he actually wishes he could have done more and said that he hoped the woman’s alleged evil acts are tormenting her in the afterlife.
Speaking to H-Metro, Lameck said:
<blockquote>I don’t regret what I did at the graveside and if I could, I wanted to stop the burial and get answers first. No one should tell me about defying any culture because they are worse than me; they should have followed proper channels after my girl fell pregnant. I wish the woman could rot in hell
I’m sure this evil woman is not resting in peace after the drama I pulled at her funeral. If it were not for the laws in this country, I would dig her from the grave and see her corpse rot,
…She took a wrong turn and that is how I respond, not even her death could stop me from exposing how evil she was.</blockquote>
He attributed his graveside speech to anguish due to the fact that the deceased had died before she could apologise for her alleged misdeeds. He also said that his intention was not to attack a person who could not answer for herself. According to Lameck, his intention was to speak the truth and expose the lies which were being said about the deceased’s life.
