The Bulawayo Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has commended the City of Bulawayo for giving an ultimatum to illegal vendors to vacate the streets, saying trading is a way to make a living but it needs to be done in an orderly manner.
This comes after the Bulawayo Town Clerk issued a statement advising illegal informal traders to move to designated sites no later than Friday, 9 February 2024.
Dube warned that “the full force of the law will be implemented against those who continue to breach the relevant bylaws both immediately, after the deadline and going forward .”
As reported by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/bulawayo-chamber-of-smes-applauds-city-councils-move-to-restore-order-and-remove-illegal-vendors/">Chronicle</a>, Bulawayo Chamber of SMEs coordinator Nketa Mangoye Dlamini said the Urban Councils Act mandate the council to govern all economic and social activities in the city including CBD, residential areas, all economic zones and other activities. Said Dlamini:

The ultimatum to say let’s restore order is important as it follows the law. If you look around, what’s happening now in Bulawayo, there is chaos, we want SMEs to prosper and we want development in the country and we want SMEs to start up and grow but all these things have to be done in a well-planned orderly manner.
When you look at the streets that are currently occupied by illegal vendors, both pedestrians and vehicles can hardly move because streets and pavements are jammed.

He expressed concern over the lack of ablution facilities, which becomes a health threat with the growing concern about the cholera outbreak. Added Dlamini:
<blockquote>
There is a need to restore order and sanity in the city, Bulawayo is no longer as clean as it was, we cannot have a situation where everyone does as he or she pleases but when things turn bad fingers are pointed at the city council, that is not proper.
Bulawayo Chamber of SMEs promotes the formalisation of businesses. We encourage them to formalise and we train them and encourage them to follow business ethics and to occupy spaces as given by authorities.

Meanwhile, the City of Bulawayo has advised residents that the transporting of commuters from Egodini shall begin on Monday 5th February 2024.

Bulawayo Chamber Of SMEs Commends Council's Move To Remove Street Vendors

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has told Bulawayo residents that the central government has solutions to the city’s perennial water challenges.
He made the remarks while officiating at the 3rd anniversary of the national clean-up campaign in Zimbabwe’s second-largest city. Said the president:
<blockquote>
I want to assure you as people of Bulawayo that my government has a solution to your water challenges and we have enough resources to finance the water project and as I speak, we are in the process of subcontracting local companies to start trenching the pipeline from the Gwayi-Shangani Lake to Bulawayo to close that chapter of waters and look at other developmental projects.
</blockquote>
He also challenged local authorities to provide standard services to their communities, reiterating that the Second Republic will continue to provide resources under the devolution programme. Mnangagwa added:
<blockquote>
 Development is no longer decided from Harare but the new dispensation through devolution funds now allows communities to pinpoint priority areas for development and directs local authorities on what projects to undertake. In the 2022 budget, at least 4.5 billion dollars is available to local authorities.
</blockquote>
He further urged citizens to double their efforts in maintaining a clean environment as Zimbabwe aims to become the cleanest country in Africa.
The President was part of the clean-up programme at Madamara Business Centre.
Local authorities across the country have for decades been failing to provide required public goods and services citing a lack of resources. 
Bulawayo is currently battling to contain a diarrhoea outbreak recorded a few days ago. It is attributed to contaminated water the local authority is pumping to residents. 
Bulawayo has been rationing water for months now, an arrangement that has seen suburbs going for days without water.

Mnangagwa Tells Bulawayo "My Govt Has A Solution To Your Water Challenges"

Bulawayo City Football Club has expressed condolences over the death of former Highlanders’ player, manager and chairman Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda.
Sibanda succumbed to diabetes at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo on Tuesday morning. He was 63.
In a statement on Thursday, Bulawayo City Football Club Board Chairperson, Alderman Khumalo said Sibanda contributed immensely to the growth and development of football in Zimbabwe. The statement read:

His Worship Solomon Mguni, the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors, Town Clerk, Mr C Dube, Heads of Council Departments, Staff and residents of the City of Bulawayo have learnt with sadness of the passing on of the former footballer and Bulawayo City Football Club Board Member Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda on Tuesday, 10 August 2021.
Sibanda has been a beacon in not only Bulawayo Football but Zimbabwe as a whole, having been a national team manager, Highlanders Chairman and in the past two years a Bulawayo City FC Board Member 
The City joins the Sibanda Family, Bulawayo and the Nation at large in mourning a football icon that contributed immensely to the growth and development of the sport nationally.
We will sorely miss his wealth of experience, his drive to see Bulawayo prosper in football and his efforts in grassroots football development.
May his dear soul rest in peace.
He will be sorely missed.

Bulawayo City Football Club Mourn Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda

In a bid to avert a disaster in the country’s second-largest city, the government has availed $13 Million to Bulawayo to help the city’s short term water projects, The Chronicle reports.
This was revealed by Bulawayo Town Clerk Mr Christopher Dube who said this to The Chronicle:
<blockquote>We are working together with Government. As a city, we assure what Government has promised, US$13 million has been promised for the projects that are underway and it will be provided. I know one thing for certain in the background there is something for the implementation of the projects that Government has promised to give Bulawayo in the short term</blockquote>
Bulawayo is facing a dire water crisis which is seeing residents going for 6 days without running water after it decommissioned some of its water supply dams like Lower Ncema, Upper Ncema and Umzingwane dams leaving the city with Insiza, Inyakuni and Mtshabezi which leaves the city only able to pump 94 megalitres per day against a daily demand of 150 megalitres per day.

Govt Avails $13 Million For Bulawayo Short Term Water Projects

Bulawayo officials have said that they were considering turning Ekusileni into a referral institution for infectious diseases at the backdrop of an increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases.
Ekusileni has been closed for more than 20 years and should authorities open it, would be a second referral centre in Bulawayo as the city already has Thorngrove Infectious Disease Centre.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Agnes Mahomva said that the Government was considering the proposal by Bulawayo officials. She said:
<blockquote>It is very good to prepare for the inevitable. City Health in Bulawayo or Harare are supposed to be innovative and come up with suggestions on what they want to do then look at it together in terms of feasibility. If they are looking at Ekusileni, we will discuss around it and find a way forward.</blockquote>
The call is made when last wee the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee of Heath which toured facilities in Bulawayo to access preparedness discovered that most hospitals were not readily equipped to deal with the coronavirus.
The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadieah Moyo announced on Saturday that two cases had been confirmed as positive.

Calls To Increase Number Of Referral Hospitals Intensify As Confirmed Cases Increase

Today was Dynamos’ first victory of the season when they beat Bulawayo City 2 – 1 in a match played at Rufaro Stadium. 
James Marufu scored for Dynamos in the 72nd minute, followed by a goal for Byo City by Crispen Ncube at 73 minutes, bringing the teams to a tie. 
In the 79th minute, however,  Moyo gave Dynamos the winning edge with a freekick goal.
