The five girls from an extended family in Bindura, tragically killed by a speeding vehicle on Saturday, were given a State-assisted funeral and laid to rest at Makusha Cemetery on Monday, September 30.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/family-buries-five-girls/">The Herald</a>, the victims were Rachel Saidi (13), Makanaka Nemhara (9), Ashleigh Mabheka (13), Chipo Chikanda (13), and Misiyose Benjamin (14), while Ashleigh Mabheka (11) survived the incident.
The girls were walking along Mt. Darwin Road when they were struck from behind by a private vehicle driven by a soldier.
They had travelled just 400 meters from house number 252 Ray on Mt. Darwin Road, where they had gone to pick up Rachel.
Albert Mabheka, who lost his daughter, Ashleigh, and his second daughter, Ashel, is currently battling for her life at Bindura Hospital, said:

From what I heard my two daughters, along with Chipo and Misiyose left the compound to visit their uncle’s daughter Rachel.
They wanted to shop for clothes in Bindura when they were run over by the vehicle. They were facing towards town with their backs to the vehicle when they were hit.
I cannot explain the pain that I am feeling and I don’t know how I will overcome this grief.

Rachel’s father, Richard Saidi, explained that the girls did not see the car coming as they had their backs turned.
He said the girls often played together and visited one another frequently. On that tragic day, Rachel intended to buy supplies in Bindura town.
Saidi said the girls were walking on the right side of the road, facing the town, when the car approached from behind and veered off to the left.
The driver lost control and crossed onto the right side of the road, where the girls were walking.
As a widower, Saidi has been caring for Rachel since her mother passed away in 2004 when Rachel was just four years old.
He works as a truck driver, and Rachel looked after her siblings while he was away. Rachel and Makanaka Nemhara (9) lived in the same house along Mt. Darwin Road.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Christopher Magomo, along with ZANU PF and government officials, visited the families to extend their condolences.
Meanwhile, 51-year-old Washington Timburwa, a member of the Zimbabwe National Army’s Two Brigade in Cranborne, Harare, has been charged with culpable homicide after his car struck and killed the girls.
Police reported that the incident occurred on Saturday just after 4 PM at the 90-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road.

A member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has been charged with culpable homicide after his Nissan Primera vehicle veered off the road along the Harare-Mukumbura road and struck a group of six girls walking on the roadside.
Tragically, five of the girls lost their lives, while one remains in critical condition. All the girls were from the same extended family and lived at the Bindura Rural District Farm compound.
Police said the incident occurred on Saturday just after 4 PM at the 90-kilometre peg along Harare-Mukumbura Road.
In a memo addressed to the Officer Commanding Bindura Police District, Bindura traffic police confirmed on Sunday that the sixth pedestrian suffered injuries in the accident, as did a passenger in the vehicle. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver, identified as 51-year-old Washington Timburwa from the ZNA’s Two Brigade in Cranborne, Harare, was driving the private Nissan Primera with one passenger on board at the time of the incident. Reads the memo:

Upon approaching 90km peg on the said road, he failed to keep proper control of the vehicle and veered off to the left side of the road and swerved to the right side where he went on to hit 6 pedestrians who were walking along the said road due south.

Three pedestrians died on the spot, two died upon admission at Bindura Hospital.
One pedestrian is in critical condition and is admitted at Bindura Hospital.
One passenger from the first party’s vehicle sustained a cut on the head and her condition is stable. The first party (Timburwa) did not sustain any visible injuries.

The victims of the accident have been identified as Nokutenda Mabheka, 14, and Rachel Sinodia and Chipo Chikanda, both 13, who died at the scene of the accident.
Misiyose Benjamin, 14, and a girl named Makanaka, whose full details have not been provided, both succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to Bindura Hospital.
All the deceased suffered severe head injuries from the impact.
Another minor, identified as Manhenga, reportedly sustained a fractured right leg and serious head injuries and is currently hospitalised at Bindura Hospital.
The passenger in the vehicle was named as 22-year-old Nyasha Ngwerume from Shirikadzi Village, Chief Masembura, Bindura.
Police have attributed the accident to speeding. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and has been towed to Bindura VID for inspection.

Two brothers from Bindura were arraigned before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, on allegations of murder.
It is alleged that on July 6, 2024, Shadreck Mukono (24) and John Mukono (31) visited the home of the now-deceased in Glendale, to collect their estranged sister’s belongings.
The sister was the now deceased’s wife, and they were in the process of a divorce.
At the deceased’s home, a misunderstanding arose between the accused brothers and the deceased.
The deceased had told the brothers that he needed someone to witness the process of handing over his wife’s belongings.
This did not sit well with the accused, who allegedly assaulted the deceased all over his body using booted feet and wooden sticks.
A police report was filed, and the deceased was referred to Concession Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.
However, his condition deteriorated on July 7, 2024, and he was transported to Bindura Provincial Hospital, where he passed away on July 8, 2024.
The accused brothers were remanded out of custody until their next court appearance on August 20, 2024.

Two Brothers Kill Brother-in-law

A 37-year-old man from Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province, Patrick Kingirasi, who was arrested on allegations of undermining the authority of or insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been granted ZWL$500 000 bail.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said that Kingirasi, an unemployed resident of Bindura, was arrested last month and spent 24 days in pre-trial detention in Bindura Prison.
On Tuesday, 12 December, Bindura Magistrate Ndokera set Kingirasi free after granting him ZWL$500 000 bail.
Kingirasi, who was represented by human rights lawyer Pride Dzapasi, returns to court on 15 December. ZLHR said:

In May 2020, the trio together with some MDC Alliance youths staged a demonstration against the recall of their party’s MPs from Parliament and the government’s handling of funds for the COVID-19 pandemic. They claimed to have been arrested at a roadblock near Exhibition Park in Harare while demonstrating and taken to Harare Central Police Station. 
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) initially confirmed the arrest but later disowned the statement. The trio’s lawyer, Mr Jeremiah Bamu, went to the police CID Law and Order section, informing them that the three had been arrested and taken to Harare Central police station. The State claimed that checks were made, and it was discovered that they had not been arrested at all.
Two days later, on May 15, 2020, at around 1 a.m., Mr Bamu informed the police that the three individuals were located at Muchapondwa Business Centre in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bindura/">Bindura</a>, several kilometres away from Harare. The police, accompanied by Mr Bamu, went to the business centre, collected the trio, and took them to a private hospital in Waterfalls, Harare, as they claimed to have been tortured.
The state launched an investigation, it was established that a Mercedes Benz believed to be owned by Joanna Mamombe, which she was driving when she was allegedly arrested, was found parked at Harare Central Police Station. The vehicle, registered in the name of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2020/06/07/mamombes-zanu-pf-supporting-fiance-speaks-on-abduction/">Andrew Manongore, a pro-ZANU PF Chisipite man</a>, had been left at the police station. Mamombe’s alleged husband Mfundo Mlilo confirmed that the vehicle belonged to Mamombe and had been parked there since the day of the alleged abduction. According to him, the keys were lost during the abduction and torture.
The state’s investigation concluded that the three individuals had not been abducted but had staged the entire incident. They were accused of lying about their abduction to tarnish the government’s reputation. The State claims that CCTV footage showed them in Belgravia Shopping Centre during the time they claimed to have been abducted. 
<h3>The Acquittal and Appeal</h3>
In court, Joanna Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri’s lawyer accused the state of punishing his clients due to the case’s publicity on social media. The women were acquitted after appealing against the lower court’s ruling that they had a case to answer and should proceed to a defence hearing. The High Court judge criticised the state’s case, stating that it was marred with malice and falsehoods. The judge further highlighted that it was unconstitutional and against the principles of the court to push the applicants into a defence case to supplement the inadequacies of the state’s case and hope that they would incriminate themselves. The judge ordered the discharge of the women.
Following the acquittal, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) appealed the decision of the High Court. The trial is still ongoing, with the defence maintaining that Mamombe and Chimbiri never made any claim of being stopped or kidnapped by the police.

Warrant Of Arrest Against CCC MP Joana Mamombe Cancelled

The Mayor of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bindura/">Bindura</a> Town Council, Jacob Gwature (39 years old) who is a member of the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change/">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a>, and his associate Jonathan Kapasi (49 years old) have been arrested on fraud charges involving US$6,970.
According to Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi/">Paul Nyathi</a>, the national police spokesperson, the suspects, operating under the company name Pamhodzi Rainbow Network in Zimbabwe, received £5,000 (equivalent to US$6,970) from Kitchen Table Charities Trust in the United Kingdom. The funds were intended for drilling a borehole and installing a solar system at stand number 1305 Budiriro 1, Harare.
However, they failed to fulfil their obligations as per the agreement and did not proceed with the borehole drilling or solar system installation. Misheck Mlambo, representing Kitchen Table Charities Trust, deposited the funds into the suspects’ local bank account.
Following a complaint, the police arrested the suspects, who have since appeared in court. They have been remanded in custody until September 26, 2023, pending a bail application.
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) says the charges are fictitious. The party’s spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Promise_Mkwananzi/">Promise Mkwananzi</a> who himself is on the run said:

Gwature, like many of our leaders &amp; officials faces fictitious charges dating as far back as 2021. On Tuesday, the 26th of September 2023, we urge our supporters to fill up the Court in solidarity with the Mayor as well as to demonstrate our dismay &amp; opposition against the abuse of state institutions to undermine the will &amp; choices of the people of Zimbabwe. To restore &amp; retain the people’s trust &amp; confidence , our Courts must refuse to be reduced to ZANU PF’s instruments of persecution. The courts ought &amp; must be seen to be carrying our justice without fear or favour. His Legal Advisor Enerst Jena is of the opinion that this is not a criminal matter &amp; must be before a civil not a criminal Court, and rightly so. We are however are that this has been brought before the criminal Court to persecute &amp; try to tarnish Cllr Gwature’s reputation.

The party expressed concern over the ongoing harassment of its members by the Harare regime, following an election they deemed shambolic and rigged. The CCC said the arrest was unjust. Some, however, questioned why the party fielded candidates with criminal pasts, as their actions may affect their future roles. They said law enforcement has a constitutional duty to address crime and cannot remain inactive.

CCC's Bindura Mayor Has Been Arrested On Fraud Charges

A Bindura-based company specializing in the trade of gold experienced a substantial loss exceeding US$100,000 when a group of eight unidentified male suspects, armed with a total of seven pistols, carried out an attack on the company premises last Friday.
Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the National Spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed the incident, which occurred in Chiwaridzo Two. He expressed suspicions that the robbery may have involved insiders. Nyathi said:

We are investigating a case of armed robbery in which a mining company in Bindura lost US$104 000 after 8 armed robbers pounced on the premises and vanished with cash. We are told that the armed robbers attacked the security guard and the staff before taking cash and the firearm.

Armed Robbers Get Away With US$100 000 Cash

The <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe Republic</a> Police (ZRP) has issued a statement regarding the banned <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Citizens Coalition for Change</a> (CCC) rally, which was scheduled to take place on 9 July 2023 at Chipadze Stadium Bindura. According to <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">police national spokesperson</a>, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the police are not to blame for the rally not taking place. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Nyathi said while the rally convenor initially notified the local police regulating authority, she did not provide clarity on whether the local council had given CCC permission to use Chipadze Stadium. The <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">regulating authority</a> had no option but not to sanction the rally due to insecurity at the other proposed venue and a lack of <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">logistics arrangements</a>. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police sets the record straight on the alleged Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) rally in Bindura which some politicians and media organizations claim has been banned by the local Police.
The correct information is that the Citizen Coalition for Change convenor, Susan Mawire, initially notified the local Police Regulating Authority on the rally scheduled for 9th July 2023 at Chipadze stadium. The regulating authority,.who is the Officer Commanding Police Bindura District, sought clarity on the venue status from the convenor. She did not give clarity on whether the local council had given them the go ahead to use Chipadze Stadium or not.
The convenor later said that the local Bindura Municipality had turned down their request to use Chipadze Stadium on the pretext that the stadium was undergoing renovations. Coincidentally, the local authority’s mayor and deputy mayor, who are both Citizen Coalition for Change members, offered the convenor their personal private stands in Bindura to hold the rally.
The stands are in a private area which has other beneficiaries who needed to be consulted before the rally is sanctioned. The two stands in Brookdale area which are roughly measuring 3 800 and 3 900 square metres respectively cannot accommodate many people and have no access roads or ablution facilities as the area is yet to be fully developed.
The Officer Commanding Bindura District had no option, but not to sanction the rally based on the insecurity at the venue and lack of proper and clear logistics arrangement by the convenor and her party.
The convenor’s party tried to change venue and utilize a private open space in Mazowe area. The owner of the space did not give them the authority to utilize the open space. The convener then advised the local police on this development. Above all, the police had engaged the Citizen Coalition for Change convenor despite the fact that they had given the police insufficient notice to prepare for security arrangements in terms of the provisions of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (MOPA) Chapter 11:23.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges political parties and their representatives to be organized and avoid discrediting the police for their own internal failings to follow clear conditions stipulated under MOPA.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police reminds political parties that venues are not given or acquired through the police, but by engaging the institutions and individuals who own such facilities.

<a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">On Saturday, CCC national spokesperson, Fadxzayi Mahere declared</a> that the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/07/08/ccc-ban-on-national-campaign-launch-unlawful/">“ban” on their national campaign mega-launch rally in Bindura is unlawful.</a> She said the party has approached the courts to challenge the ban, but the matter is still pending before the High Court. The CCC claims that <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">ZANU PF</a> has used political violence, <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">unlawful arrests</a>, and intimidation to disrupt or ban over 92 of their meetings or rallies since their formation in January 2022. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Mahere said despite the continued efforts to silence them, the CCC remains committed to mobilising voters for a big win on election day and building a new Zimbabwe that works for everyone. Zimbabwe Police Speak On "Banned" CCC Bindura Rally

The opposition CCC party has approached the High Court to challenge the decision by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to ban their 2023 elections campaign launch that was scheduled for 09 July in Bindura.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said they had initially approached the Magistrates Court to challenge the move by the Police, but after the lower court set the matter down for 11 July, the opposition party then approached the High Court. Said Mahere:

The Police unconstitutionally “banned” our Campaign Launch set for Sunday. Our lawyers immediately challenged the illegality.
The Magistrates’ Court erroneously set the matter down for 11 July (2 days after the rally) in violation of the Act. We’ve lodged an urgent review to the High Court.

In banning the CCC rally, Police said the venue selected by the opposition party has no access roads and water, exposing supporters to communicable diseases.

On Wednesday, police disrupted CCC’s Presidential Campaign Rally in Chiredzi, saying the party failed to comply with security requirements prescribed under section 8 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act (Chapter 11:23).
Another CCC rally that was scheduled for Chivi Growth Point this Friday was also blocked by the Police who said the venue had already been booked by ZANU PF.

CCC Approaches High Court To Challenge Campaign Launch Ban

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has blocked CCC from launching its 2023 elections campaign in Bindura on Sunday saying the venue selected by the opposition party has no access roads and water, exposing supporters to communicable diseases.
ZRP also said they were not given sufficient notice “as provided for in terms of the MOPA Act”, and advised CCC to find another venue and date for the event.
A letter addressed to CCC by the Officer Commanding Bindura Police District, dated 07 July 2023, reads in part:

This office acknowledges receipt of your notification of a public gathering [Campaign Rally] dated 6th July 2023 to be held at stand number 3889 and 3890 Brockdale, Bindura, on the 9th of July 2023 from 0900 hours to 1700hours which you submitted in terms of section 7 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act [Chapter 11:23].
This office has reservations in respect of the suitability of the venue taking into account all relevant security factors necessary.
The venue falls within an undeveloped piece of land, which is bushy without serviceable roads, water and sewer facilities.
It provides a high-risk security threat to the participants. There is also a high risk of threat to the spread of any communicable diseases.
In the event of any public disorder, the police and other emergency services would have challenges accessing the venue due to the unavailability of an official road network.
As a result, our mandate to protect life and property and to maintain law and order will be compromised.
Lastly, your notification did not give sufficient notice to the regulatory authority as provided in terms of the MOPA Act.
May you consider securing another suitable venue and provide sufficient notification as required by the provisions of the MOPA Act.

Police Block CCC's 2023 Elections Campaign Launch In Bindura

The Zimbabwe Meteorological Services Department (MSD) in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection has issued the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe Evening Weather Report</a> and Forecast, which is valid from Monday 03 July to Wednesday 05 July 2023.
The MSD reported that on Monday, it was cloudy, windy, and cold in the eastern parts of the country, such as <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Mashonaland East</a>, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, western parts of Mashonaland Central, and Masvingo, with drizzle in some areas. This was due to moist <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">easterly winds</a> that are now decreasing. Meanwhile, all other areas had mostly clear skies and cold mornings, but it became milder in the afternoon. Some places, including Gweru, Henderson, Lupane, and Nkayi, had <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">slight ground frost</a> in the morning.
On Tuesday 04 July 2023, very cold morning conditions are expected over the Highveld, with slight ground frost in areas such as Chivhu, Henderson, and Marondera. It should be partly cloudy over Manicaland, Mashonaland East, and <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Harare Metropolitan Province</a>, cool by day, and becoming cold toward evening. Mostly sunny and mild afternoon conditions are expected in other areas, although they will be very cold overnight.

Poultry, especially day-old chicks, are sensitive to overnight temperature declines. The overnight clearance of clouds over the southern half of the country, namely Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern areas of Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland led to cool morning conditions with most areas below 15°C. The rest of the day was mostly sunny and warm over these areas However, moisture still present over Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central led to partly cloudy and mild morning conditions. This moisture is slowly spreading further into the country, while cool south-easterly winds are slowly strengthening and flowing from the southeast coast of Southern Africa.

Meanwhile, the cloud band remains stationary in the west of the country and is not expected to cause significant changes during the forecast period.
