Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist, Bill Gates, predicts that within the next decade, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will make humans unnecessary for most tasks, as it will provide free and accessible expertise, like medical advice and tutoring, which are currently rare and human-dependent.
Gates refers to this as the arrival of a new era of “free intelligence,” where AI-powered technologies will impact many aspects of life, including medicine, education, and virtual assistance.
Gates told comedian Jimmy Fallon during an interview on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” in February that the rapid pace of AI development is both profound and a bit scary due to its lack of upper limits.
There is an ongoing debate about AI’s effect on jobs. Some experts believe AI will improve human efficiency and create new jobs, while others, like Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, argue that AI will be labor-replacing, leading to massive workforce disruption.
Gates is optimistic about AI’s potential to offer breakthrough treatments for diseases, tackle climate change, and provide high-quality education to all.
He said some human jobs, like playing baseball, will likely remain untouched by AI. However, tasks like manufacturing, transportation, and agriculture could be largely automated over time.
Gates acknowledged valid concerns about AI, such as errors in top AI programmes and the spread of misinformation.
Speaking to CNBC Make It in September 2024, Gates said that if he had to start a new business from scratch, he’d launch an “AI-centric” startup. He said:

Zimbabwean journalist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin'ono/">Hopewell Chin’ono</a> has compared the Cabinets of Zimbabwe and China, highlighting the differences in qualifications and numbers. He noted that despite China’s larger population and higher GDP, it has only 21 ministries, while Zimbabwe, with a smaller population and GDP, has over 26 ministries.
Chin’ono criticised the lack of expertise in Zimbabwe’s Cabinet and its negative impact on the country’s economy. He contrasted this with China’s Cabinet, where many members hold advanced degrees and have a track record of professional success. Chin’ono emphasised the need for political discipline and national interest, as demonstrated by China, to drive progress and combat corruption.

Zimbabwe is a nation of only 15 million people with a paltry GDP of only US$20 billion, yet it has more than 26 government ministries with deputy ministers, yet it is one of the worst economies in the world with the highest global inflation. It even has an Orwellian Ministry of Truth dubbed the Ministry of Information and Publicity. 
Do you now understand why we are a joke and laughing stock to the world? 
Whilst President Mnangagwa has appointed a cabinet of family, friends and actresses, four out of the seven members of China’s Politburo Standing Committee hold degrees in Social Science and Humanities. 
The majority of the Chinese Central Committee members are trained in Law, Economics, and Social Science. Within the Chinese Central Committee, 45 members have a PhD degrees. Out of these 45, three members of the Chinese Politburo, and two members of the Politburo Standing Committee have a doctoral degree. Chinese President Xi Jinping is one of the Politburo Standing Committee members who holds a PhD, the other one is premier Li Keqiang. China’s top two leaders have doctoral degrees and have a professional track record. 
Then Africans wonder why the continent is a joke to the outside world and why we don’t progress whilst others outdoor us on every development index? Imagine that the people who were appointed today by President Mnangagwa are essentially the best foot forward for him. For China it is not just about education, it is also about political discipline and national interest. That is why they execute corrupt political elites, in Zimbabwe we would be left with No Government at all if we applied the same Chinese standard on corruption. 
I had dinner with 2 Chinese diplomats in 2012 after <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ibbo_Mandaza/">Dr Ibbo Mandaza</a> asked me to drive him to the dinner meeting at Great Wall Chinese restaurant in Belgravia in Harare. These diplomats asked us why Zimbabwe sends useless people for trade negotiations and why our government officials don’t take notes. They asked if we can’t see that there is a difference between national interest and personal interest. I felt so humiliated when they started talking about the number of poor citizens that China lifted out of poverty every year. 
In Zimbabwe we can only talk about the number of citizens that ZANUPF has impoverished annually. We don’t even have a working radiotherapy cancer treatment machine in the whole country. The biggest hospital only has ONE working maternity theatre. We have a ministerial cabinet that can’t think beyond its nose, and that has no gravitas or world view at all, and you still wonder why Zimbabwe is the sick man of the Southern African region? We used to be the second most sophisticated economy in Africa after independence.

Chin’ono added that he is a member of the Tutu Fellowship/African Leadership Institute where they have ministers and ambassadors from various African countries who are highly competent individuals. He highlighted the example of an ICT minister in Nigeria who had a background as an entrepreneur and associated with influential figures like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. In contrast, he criticised the appointment of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tatenda_Mavetera/">Tatenda Mavetera</a> (MP) a former actress, as Zimbabwe’s ICT minister, questioning her ability to engage with figures like Gates and Zuckerberg.
Chin’ono argued against exaggerating the level of education in the country, emphasising that having educated individuals does not necessarily translate into an educated nation. He expressed concern about the lack of vision among leaders, focusing on corruption, repression, and the misuse of resources. He concluded that Zimbabwe is “doomed.”

Hopewell Chin'ono Has Compared Zimbabwe And China's Cabinets

Bill Gates’ Microsoft, has partnered with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Strive_Masiyiwa">Strive Masiyiwa</a>‘s Liquid Intelligent Technologies, to provide Internet access to 20 million underserved people in Africa by 2025.
The collaboration will make use of Microsoft’s Airband project to focus on places like Tanzania, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, <a href="https://billionaires.africa/2023/03/03/microsoft-joins-forces-with-strive-masiyiwas-liquid-to-bring-internet-to-underserved-african-communities/">Billionaires Africa</a> reports.
The objective of the partnership between Bill Gates’ Microsoft and Masiyiwa’s Liquid is to bring high-speed Internet connectivity to previously unconnected communities while bridging the digital divide.
The partnership seeks to extend high-speed internet to rural areas in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, as well as to underserved communities throughout Africa.
Liquid’s most recent action is a continuation of prior endeavours, such as the November 2022 announcement of a ground-breaking investment of over R350 million ($19.7 million) in a Software Defined Network (SDN) solution called Dataport Across Africa.
This SDN offering will be the first of its kind on the continent.
Liquid, a division of Cassava Technologies, has invested more than $1.5 billion in network infrastructure to become the first provider of Dataport services in Africa.
Under Masiyiwa’s leadership, Liquid’s cloud solutions have seen tremendous growth with a presence in more than 20 countries, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. 
Masiyiwa is a Zimbabwean billionaire who sits on the boards of Unilever Plc, Netflix, Bank of America, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Bill Gates' Microsoft Partners With Strive Masiyiwa's Liquid

Microsoft founder Bill Gates transferred US$1.8 billion in stocks to his wife Melinda the day they announced their divorce after reaching a ‘separation agreement’.
The transfer appears to be the first of many public transactions the pair will make as they start to divide up their extraordinary assets.
Bill and Melinda have been married for 27 years and have three adult children, but announced in a joint statement on Monday they were parting ways with Melinda saying the marriage was ‘irretrievably broken.’
The pair’s divorce settlement hasn’t been finalized in court but they have agreed on some of the terms of their separation.
It’s likely that the pair will settle privately, and that the only sight into their division of assets will come from SEC filings about how many shares they own in public companies.
On Monday, one such filing revealed that Bill gave Melinda more than 14 million shares of the Canadian National Railway Company worth $1.5billion. He also gave her 2.9 million shares of AutoNation.
The shares were transferred from Cascade Investment LLC, an investment company controlled by Gates. Bill has hired 97-year-old billionaire lawyer Charlie T Munger to represent him in the divorce.

Bill Gates Gives Over A Billion To Melinda As They Divorce

World-renowned philanthropist Bill Gates has criticised the decision by the United States of America leader, President Donald Trump to suspend funding the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Gates asserted that Trump’s move is dangerous, coming at a time when WHO is working to slow the spread of COVID-19, a global pandemic caused by the new coronavirus. Gates posted on Twitter:

On Tuesday Trump decided to cut US funding to the WHO after accusing the international body of “severely mismanaging and covering up” the threat posed by the coronavirus.
Trump said WHO had “defended the actions of the Chinese government, even praising its so-called transparency”.
