The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested 17 suspects for illegally settling at a farm in Longlands, in the Beatrice area.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests. He said:
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of suspects in Mashonaland East for illegally settling at Longlands, Tantalon and Dagbreek farms in Beatrice and Chivhu.
17 suspects were arrested at Longlands and Tantalon farms in Beatrice. The suspects have appeared in court and are on remand.
Asst Comm Nyathi said 14 other suspects who were arrested at Longlands Farm, Beatrice on 29 December 2023, are currently in police custody awaiting a court appearance. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns land barons who are illegally parcelling out land to desperate home-seekers that they risk being arrested and face the full wrath of the law.
</blockquote>
He said police have since identified suspected land barons in Mashonaland East Province and are interested in interviewing them in connection with the illegal parcelling of land at Longlands, Tantalon and Dagbreek farms.
The suspects are Michel Ndlovu, Zivengwa Mamina, Chrispen Magaya, Shadreck Chimbare, Shepherd Jongwe, Misheck Chuma and Last Rutsvara.
They have been asked to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Chivhu and CID Beatrice.
Asst Comm Nyathi reiterated that only the Ministry of Land, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development is mandated to allocate agricultural land and warned that anyone involved in parcelling out land or making unauthorised development on private or gazetted land will be arrested.

Police Arrest 17 People For Illegal Land Invasion In Beatrice

A truck driver was electrocuted as he tried to drive his heavy vehicle under 11 kV ZESA lines at Thomson Farm in Beatrice, on Tuesday 9 August.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Mashonaland East Province Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident to The Mirror.
He said at around 2 PM, Funny Kunze (38), of Dzivarasekwa 3, Harare, was driving a truck registration number HH45BSBP and a trailer carrying an excavator from South Africa to Thomson Farm in Beatrice.
He was in the company of two passengers, Brain Nyakabwi (34) and Lillian Veremu (36).
Kunze was reportedly warned against passing under a Zimbabwe Electricity, Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) 11 kV line to get to the farm.
As the truck passed, the excavator got tangled on one of the lines, and the driver stopped.
All the three got out of the vehicle safely through the driver’s door.
However, Kunze realised that the vehicle’s engine was running and returned to the truck and was electrocuted as he tried to open the door. He suffered burns.
The matter was reported to ZRP Beatrice, and the body was taken to Chitungwiza Hospital for postmortem.

Driver Electrocuted As Truck Hits Overhead Power Line

A yet to be identified man suspected to be an electricity transformer thief was found dead after he was electrocuted while trying to steal a Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution (ZETDC) transformer in Beatrice.
Local cattle herders stumbled upon the body on Monday morning at a transformer at Gowelands B, Beatrice.
A satchel with an empty wallet, spanners, a rope, a pair of trousers, a jacket and a t-shirt was found on the deceased.
The Mirror reported that their efforts to get a comment from Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachivi were futile as his mobile was unreachable.
The publication also reported sources as saying that a group of men was seen milling at the transformer place at around 1 AM.
The now-deceased is reported to have climbed up the transformer and was electrocuted after hooking a live wire.
Meanwhile, most of Gowelands B did not have electricity on Monday.

Transformer Thief Electrocuted In Beatrice

A teenager from Beatrice is on the run after he allegedly stabbed his brother-in-law to death with a spear for divorcing his sister.
The Mirror reported police sources as saying the 17-year-old man, who has not been named, fled after stabbing Steven Mandizvidza (35) of New stands Glen Norah 7. Mandizvidza had an altercation with his ex-wife who is the suspect’s sister.
Mashonaland East Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed the incident to The Mirror.
He said on 29 September, Mandizvidza together with his friend visited his former wife to see his daughter.
Upon arrival, the two had a heated argument over their divorce process and this degenerated into a fight.
The suspect tried in vain to refrain Mandizvidza from beating his sister. But the now deceased charged at the young brother and a fistfight ensued.
The suspect then ran into the house and came back with a spear which he used to stab his brother-in-law in the neck.
Mandizvidza bled profusely and was taken to Marondera General Hospital by a neighbour where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The matter was reported at Beatrice Police Station.

Teen Flees After Killing His Sister's Estranged Hubby

A fight broke out recently in Beatrice after two men and their colleagues fought for the same woman they had come to pay lobola for.
A local Beatrice pastor, Marvin Rwatirinda, has since confirmed the incident and is now demanding 10% of the bride price. said Rwatirinda of Higher Faith Ministries:

We called this year (2021); ‘The Year of Instant Results’ and Grace Musonza (who is at the centre of the controversy) prayed to get married. 
</blockquote>
It is reported that the 27-year-old Musonza was in a relationship with one George Mbirimi who she left after the latter kept giving empty promises on when he would pay lobola for her.
Musonza later fell in love with another man, Martin Marisa, who is a businessman in the area.
Three months later, Marisa visited his new in-laws to pay lobola for Musonza.
Mbirimi, however, came to Musonza homestead on the same day after being tipped off about the lobola ceremony.
He brought his colleagues and US$620 which he intended to pay as bride price.
His rival, Marisa had with him US$5 500.
A fierce fight broke out, Mbirimi and his team were defeated and fled from the Musonza homestead with their cash.
The lobola ceremony proceeded after the fight with Marisa’s father-in-law bragging he was going to buy a vehicle from the lobola money.
However, Rwatirinda, the pastor, is also demanding his 10% share of the bribe price as through his prayers, Musonza was able to find a boyfriend and got married as she wished.

Fist Fight As Two Men Arrive To Pay Lobola For Same Girl On Same Day

A 45-year-old woman from Beatrice has been sentenced to an effective 16 years in prison for raping her three sons for a month in April last year.
The woman appeared before Chitungwiza regional magistrate Noel Mupeiwa on three counts of rape and was convicted after a full trial.
The magistrate blasted the woman for her deviant behaviour after noting that she was mentally sound.
The three children, one aged six and twins aged 8, also sexually abused a neighbour’s daughter.
The State established that the woman would invite her boys to sleep with her in bed saying she wanted to teach them how to have sexual intercourse.
She then repeatedly abused the children several times warning them that she will not give them food if they disclosed the abuse to anyone.
The matter came to light after a neighbour’s daughter was sexually abused and the step-grandmother, who had taken the boys, quizzed them on where they had learnt that and they spilt the beans.
A report was then made to the police leading to the arrest of the mother.

Woman (45) Rapes Her Own Three Sons

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a stern warning to people engaged in the illegal harvesting of firewood and possessing charcoal without permits saying they will be arrested.
Posting on their Twitter handle on Monday, the ZRP said 10 people were arrested on Wednesday last week after being found in possession of 160 bags of charcoal in Beatrice, Mashonaland East.
Three more people were arrested on Friday in Nyamapanda for possession of 110 bags of charcoal without a permit.
The suspects will appear in court on charges of contravening the Forestry Act. Police said in the statement:
<blockquote>On 10/03/21, Police in Beatrice arrested ten people for contravening the Forestry Act. The suspects were found in possession of varying quantities of charcoal adding to 160 bags.
Similarly, on 12/03/21, Police in Nyamapanda arrested 3 people for possession of 110 bags of charcoal without a permit.
ZRP is giving a stern warning to all people cutting down trees or dealing with any forestry produce without a permit that they risk being arrested.</blockquote>

13 People Arrested Over 270 Charcoal Bags Haul

3 Police officers manning a roadblock along the Harare-<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo">Masvingo</a> highway threatened to shoot a 10-year-old girl who had picked a plastic bag containing money that belonged to them, The Chronicle reports.
According to the publication, the 10-year-old girl who lives at a farm near <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beatrice">Beatrice</a> picked the paper in a rubbish pit and took it home. When her mother opened it they discovered there was money in the plastic bag of various currencies.
When the police officers discovered their money was missing, they went to the farm and threatened their suspects and pointed their service rifles at them, handcuffed them and threatened to assault them till the parents returned the money.
The trio, only identified as assistant Inspector Mahleka, Sergeant Ndlovu and Constable Hamadziripi, has since appeared before the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">ZRP</a> Tribunal and were sentenced to 14 days in the detention barracks.

A Beatrice farmworker who allegedly murdered his 77-year-old employer and dumped her body in a dam on Sunday [05 January 2020] also died in a road traffic accident the following day.
Sonboy, of Jefferson Farm in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beatrice" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Beatrice</a>, allegedly killed Esther Muhambi by striking her on the head with a mattock before tying the body onto a rock and throwing it into a dam.
He then fled with the deceased’s Toyota Raum vehicle which he was later involved in an accident with on Monday.

Man Kills Employer, Dies In Her Car While Fleeing

A 41-year-old man was allegedly attacked by a gang of three women in Beatrice who took turns to r_ape him.
Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza urged members of the public to exercise caution. He said:
<blockquote>Cases of this nature are rare, but their resurgence is quite worrying. The public should avoid being offered lifts by strangers and in this case, never to take drinks or other foodstuffs from strangers.
We are making investigations and anyone who has information that can assist police should feel free to approach any police station.</blockquote>
The man was reportedly attacked on September 16 at around 4 am after he boarded a Toyota Fortuner at Danga bus stop in Masvingo on his way to Corona Farm in Beatrice.
Three female adults who were in the car offered the man a drink which he accepted. The man only remembered having s_exu_al int_rcourse with one of the women before he passed out.
When he came to, he realised that he was sleeping by the roadside in Beatrice. He then made a police report at Beatrice.

3 Female R_pists Prey On Beatrice Man

US$1 million is needed to repair the damage to the Skyline toll gate after it was set on fire during the January fuel protests, an official has revealed.
Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) acting CEO, Wishes Mauwa made the revelations on Monday while briefing members of parliament’s transport and infrastructure development committee. Said Mauwa:
<blockquote>To repair Skyline toll gate, Zinara needs about US$1 million which is going to be used to repair the whole toll gate and also buy the machinery and cameras needed.</blockquote>
Mauwa disclosed that ZINARA has plans to move the toll gate some 20km further as it is currently located close to residential areas.
The skyline tollgate is situated along the Harare-Beatrice road near Harare’s Southlea Park suburb.
The new toll gate will cost in the region of US$2 million. Mauwa added:
<blockquote>We have been considering moving the toll gate 20km away so that we can move away from the residents since the toll gate is now surrounded by homes.
And again, most motorists especially commuter omnibus drivers now have the habit of fleeing the toll gate using roads in the residential homes around.
We want the toll gate to be moved to a place where there are no homes around.</blockquote>
The parliamentarians were told that the toll gate was not insured, as are most of the toll gates dotted across the country. Mauwa said that it is government’s duty to insure the toll gates.
