A 33-year-old man was sentenced to an effective six years in prison by the Epworth Magistrates’ Court for attempted rape.
The court heard that on October 2, 2024, the offender and the 15-year-old complainant, who were in a relationship, met at her home.
The offender invited her to his house, but she refused to get out of the vehicle due to fear of dogs.
He then pressured her for sexual intercourse, which she declined. Despite her refusal, he kissed her and fondled her breasts and buttocks without consent.
He also attempted to forcibly remove her skirt, but she bit him, prompting him to stop. He subsequently drove her back home.
The abuse came to light when the complainant confided in her brother, leading to a police report and the offender’s arrest.
Initially, the court sentenced him to eight years, but two years were suspended for five years.
In a related case, a man from Shamva was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Bindura Magistrate Court for repeatedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
The offences occurred between November 2, 2024, and January 14, 2025, at their home in Shamva.
The court revealed that the offender exploited his position by threatening the victim to keep her silent.
The abuse was uncovered when a condom was found in the victim’s blanket, prompting her mother to investigate.
The victim was referred to Shamva Hospital for a medical examination, and evidence was presented in court.

Epworth Man Sentenced To 6 Years For Attempted Rape Of Underage Girlfriend

A 29-year-old man from Pfupajena, Chegutu has been arrested and charged with attempted rape after allegedly threatening a woman (21) with an axe.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that on 29 November 2024, at 1 PM, the 21-year-old complainant and her two friends encountered the accused, who was armed with a small axe, while walking from a clinic.
The accused allegedly intimidated the complainant, instructing her to bend down, and then attempted to engage in non-consensual sexual activity. Said the NPA:

They reported the matter to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest. The accused person was remanded in custody to 16 December 2024.

Axe-wielding Man Disarmed And Struck After Attempting To Rape Woman

A 20-year-old man from Chief Nyajena’s area in Masvingo was convicted of attempted rape and sentenced to five years in prison.
The court heard that on November 3, 2024, at around midday, the offender accosted a 37-year-old woman who was walking to Nyamande Business Centre.
He jumped in front of her path, naked, and demanded to have sexual relations with her. The man then grabbed the woman by the hands and forced her to the ground.
However, the complainant resisted the attack. She pulled the man’s manhood and managed to escape, leaving him writhing in pain.
The woman promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest.
On November 8, 2024, the Chiredzi Regional Magistrates Court sentenced the 20-year-old man for his criminal actions.

Woman Pulls Attacker's Manhood To Avoid Rape

A Bindura State University student narrowly escaped a gang rape after the suspects discovered she was on her menstrual period.
As reported by <a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-national-byo-246449.html">Bulawayo24</a>, the case was brought to light at the Bindura regional magistrates’ court on Friday, where Iyeni Njanji and Taurai Chikwata faced charges of attempted rape and robbery before Magistrate Elisha Singano.
The accused person were each sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Prosecutor Edward Katsvairo told the court that in December, the suspects pounced on a student residence in Bindura, where they ransacked the property and stole cellphones, laptops, groceries, and money.
Armed with a pistol and an iron bar, they forced two female students to leave the house, but abandoned one juvenile, claiming she was too young.
They intended to rape one of the students, but upon stripping her, they discovered she was on her period, leading them to caress and kiss her instead.
The suspects were eventually identified after police tracked a cellphone they sold in September. The complainants were able to positively identify them during the investigation.

A 22-year-old man from Beitbridge appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates Court on charges of attempted rape. He had been arrested for trying to rape his stepmother on Sunday morning.
The accused, whose name has not been disclosed, was convicted of the offence and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on September 15, 2024, at around 6 AM, the complainant was lying in her blankets in her bedroom when the accused knocked on her door and was permitted to enter. Said the NPA:

He asked for washing powder and the complainant told him that she would give him money to go and buy some later.
He returned a while later and opened the door without knocking, peeped and shut the door before he left.
He returned once more, hurriedly opened the door and walked towards the complainant who was still in her blankets.
He moved around the room, closed the door and the complainant immediately jumped out of the bed and stood on feet.
The accused person pulled down his trousers, charged towards the complainant and tripped her. He removed the complainant’s skirt and tried to rape her.
While they were wrestling, a neighbour who was outside shouted the accused person’s name to stop what he was doing.

The accused stopped his actions upon hearing more neighbours gathering outside. A police report was subsequently filed, leading to his arrest.

A 74-year-old woman from Hwange survived rape after she allegedly grabbed and squeezed her 21-year-old attacker’s privates.
The incident occurred recently in Jambezi under Chief Shana in Hwange District, Matabeleland North Province.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the assailant, Mbonisi Ncube, appeared before a Hwange magistrate facing unlawful entry charges and another count of rape. The NPA said:

On the 7th of June 2024 at 2100 hours, the accused person, Mbonisi Ncube gained entry into the complainant’s house where the complainant (80) was sleeping with her grandchildren.
He strangled the complainant’s 10-year-old grandchild before she screamed. This alerted the complainant who went to investigate.
The accused person ran away. The complainant identified him when he returned at about 2330hrs and peeped through the window. She promptly advised her neighbours.
On the same day at around 2300hrs, the accused person gained entry into another complainant’s house through the window. The complainant (74) heard movements and went to investigate.
The accused person dragged the complainant into her bedroom and forced her onto her bed. He pulled up her dress and tore her pantie before trying to rape the complainant.
The complainant managed to grab his manhood and squeezed it until he released her. The accused person escaped through the window and ran away.
The complainant advised her neighbours who helped her track the spoor which led to the accused person’s homestead. A police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.

Ncube was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on the first count. On the second count, he was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment. He will serve 6 years effectively.

Hwange Woman (74) Survives Rape By Squeezing 21-Year-old Attacker’s Privates

A Plumtree woman reportedly escaped from being raped by pulling the attacker’s manhood and screaming.
<a href="https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-news-sc-regional-byo-238595.html">Bulawayo24</a> reported that the accused person, Khulekani Maphosa(23), appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware at the Plumtree Magistrates Courts on Thursday.
Maphosa was remanded in custody to 03 January 2024 and advised to apply for Bail at the High Court.
The state led by Voster Makuwerere alleged on 03 December 2023, the accused came to the complainant’s house wearing a yellow t-shirt only.
It is further alleged that the accused saw the complainant coming from a bath and upon arrival, he held the complainant’s shoulder and tried to push her down.
The complainant pulled Maphosa’s manhood and he bit the complainant’s thigh.
The complainant screamed for help and neighbours came out to her rescue but Mphosa escaped.
A police report was filed leading to his arrest.

<li>Listen to your intuition when alone – Stay aware of your surroundings, avoid isolated public areas, walk with determination even if you’re lost, trust your gut, keep your cell phone charged and with you, avoid going somewhere alone with a person you don’t know well, don’t use music headphones when walking alone.</li>
<li>Reduce risk in social situations – Go to parties and social events with a group of friends and stay with the group. Do not leave your drink unattended. Do not accept drinks from a stranger or someone you just met.</li>
<li>Don’t reveal too much on social media.</li>

According to <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2000/aug/17/gender.uk1">a report</a>, a U.S. study of 1.5 million rape convictions over a decade found that women who fought back tripled their chances of escape.
Scott Lindquist, author of The Date Rape Prevention Book tells women to defend themselves, saying they should “outsmart” their attacker, to “take a risk and fight him off”, and to “trust your instincts – if one tactic isn’t working, try another”.
Some women when attacked by strangers, resist by screaming, fighting and biting, running away, refusing to cooperate, pretending they were pregnant or had Aids and attempting to reason.

Woman Pulls Attacker's Manhood To Avoid Being Raped

A 20-year-old woman from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo narrowly escaped being raped by an unknown suspect in a maize on Saturday night.
ZRP spokesperson in Bulawayo Province, Inspector Abednico Ncube, said the complainant was walking alone, coming from work after dropping off a kombi at a bus stop.
He said after walking for about 20 metres, the complainant was approached by an unknown suspect who grabbed her by the neck and attempted to strangle her.
The suspect searched the complainant and took her Samsung A82 cellphone, US$2 and R30. Said Insp Ncube:

The suspect then dragged the complainant into a nearby maize field where he tripped her to the ground and removed her clothes. He tried to rape her but she managed to ward him off.
The accused person ordered the complainant to dress up and go home and he disappeared into the darkness.

Woman (20) Robbed And Almost Raped In Maize Field

A woman from St Elizabeth in Insuza, whose six-year-old daughter survived sexual assault after she found the offender just about to rape her, said that her daughter’s life is at risk as the alleged perpetrator was released without rehabilitation.
The mother alleges she caught the 16-year-old offender, who was a herd boy, in the act of trying to rape her daughter but no one believes her. <a href="https://cite.org.zw/mother-fumes-as-alleged-sex-offender-is-released-back-into-the-community/">She told CITE</a>:

I was outside the house answering my call as usual, when my phone rings l always go out to answer because they will be making noise. I found him on top of my child.
The thing that hurts is that his relatives are defending him saying that the child must be lying but l saw him with my own eyes.
</blockquote>
The mother said she reported the alleged offender to the police, who asked her to bring the daughter for their investigations.
The police later detained the teenager and advised the mother to take the kid to the hospital. She said:

I took my child to the hospital and they checked whether she was HIV positive or not and it was found that she was not.
We were also referred to St Luke’s Hospital where she was checked thoroughly and they said the boy attempted to rape her but he didn’t break her. We were given a written note.

She said the police referred them to the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court in Bulawayo where they were referred back to Insuza.
The mother said that she feels betrayed by members of her family and other community members who are refusing to believe her. She said:

We are in pain because we found the perpetrator outside bars, and when l asked one of the police officers at Insuza he said the boy is underage and the hospital report is the one that will determine whether to arrest him or not.
There might be a possibility that the perpetrator might wait for her on her way to school and rape her.

Mother Feels Betrayed As Alleged Sex Offender Is Released Back Into The Community

Chief Musarurwa born Enos Masakwa wept in court as his attempted rape trial against a 14-year-old girl entered its second day on Friday last week.
Tears ran down the traditional leader’s cheeks and he rubbed them off using his hands as a young brother to the complainant, a little boy gave evidence in court.
Provincial Magistrate Batanai Madzingira postponed the case to 31 January 2022.
The boy told the court that he saw Chief’s Musarurwa official vehicle parked at a secluded place near his parents’ home on the day the alleged rape attempt took place.
During cross-examination, the chief’s lawyer, Norman Mugiya, argued that the statement the complainant gave to the Police was different from the one given to Probation Officer Darlington Chigweshe and the court respectively.
Chigweshe, however, said that such was normal with children and in particular when they give evidence in the presence of the accused due to intimidation and fear.
The complainant’s father told the court that Chief Musarurwa gave him US$10 as an apology for fondling his daughter but the evidence was dismissed by the court.
Chief Musarurwa is facing two counts of attempted rape. In the first incident which occurred in September 2020, the minor said she went to fetch water from a borehole near Musarurwa’s homestead when the chief lured her to his place.

In the second incident that allegedly took place on 9 August 2021, Chief Musarurwa visited the juvenile at her place of residence and found her in the company of her parents.

Musarurwa said he was asked to talk to the girl who had allegedly become a problem in the community.
Meanwhile, the case was reported six months ago and it took many complaints from the parents before Chivhu Police brought it to court.

Women in Chivhu have resolved to hold a protest against Chief Musarurwa, born Enos Musakwa, who is yet to be arrested and continues to conduct Government business despite being reported for the attempted rape of a 13-year-old girl.
The resolution was made after a human rights awareness workshop conducted for the women by Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Association (CRRA) and the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD) at Chivhu hotel.
The workshop which was attended by seventy-four women was facilitated by Lynette Hlatywayo.
Some of the issues discussed have to do with the rights of women and youth to demand transparency and accountability from duty bearers.
Chief Musarurwa was reported to the police at Chivhu on 24 August, RRB number is CR08/09/21 after he gave an unsolicited lift to the girl and then allegedly attempted to rape her.
The father of the 13-year-old girl has complained over the manner in which police are handling the case and has queried why Chief Musarurwa is yet to be arrested.
Meanwhile, the women said that they were also going to act on a number of other issues including excessive use of force by police at Chivhu.
A Chivhu woman allegedly died due to excessive use of force by members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) while two other people are nursing severe wounds after being mauled by police dogs.
In one of the cases, a police officer unleashed a dog on Darlington Manjokota for breaking curfew early this month. Manjokota was left with serious injuries.
Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, Hlatywayo said unity of purpose was important as women and youth pursue their goals and demand accountability and transparency from office-bearers.

Chief Musarurwa, born Enos Musakwa, from Chikomba District, in Mashonaland East Province, has been reported to the police on allegations of attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl from his area.
The Mirror established from its sources that the matter was reported at Chivhu Police Station in September this year under case number CR08/09/21.
When contacted by The Mirror, the traditional leader initially said he was not aware of the alleged incident but later said he does not talk to the media on such issues.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi also said that he was not aware of the issue.
But the father of the complainant who cannot be named for ethical reasons confirmed the case to The Mirror and pleaded for justice.
He alleged that Chief Musarurwa actually visited his home at night after realising that the matter had been reported to the police and tried to settle it privately.
On the attempted rape allegations against the chief, the father of the complainant who cannot be named for ethical reasons said Musarurwa visited the family in his official car on 9 August 2021.
They prepared him a meal and later gave him some groundnuts. On leaving, the chief asked to go with the girl as he wanted to send her to some homestead.
Without suspecting anything the parents agreed but told the chief that the girl should come back early because she had some work to do at home.
The complainant’s father alleges that Musarurwa drove off and parked his car at a secluded place where he undressed the complainant and touched her private parts.
The chief only stopped after the girl cried out for help, said the father. Musarurwa then drove the girl back but dropped her off a distance from the homestead as she was crying.
The girl arrived home crying and told her story to the parents. The shocked parents followed the chief to his place but were told on arrival that he had already left for Manhize. Added the father:

We were duped because we trusted and respected him as a Chief. No one can suspect that from a Chief.
When we reported the case to the police, he came here during the night and asked me what I want from him so that we can solve the matter amicably.
I refused to negotiate with him because it is stupid to do so.

A 20-year-old man from Bulawayo’s Entumbane suburb jumped into a pond of raw sewage in a bid to escape an angry mob which was baying for his blood.
Thabani Ncube was caught in the very act of trying to rape a 60-year-old woman in a bushy area.
Ncube allegedly choked the elderly woman who fainted as he continued trying to undress her.
She was only rescued by a passerby who called out to residents to come and witness the attack.
Sensing danger, Ncube waded through a pond of untreated human waste but the crowd retrieved and bashed him before handing him over to the police.
