The Private Investigators and Security Guards (Control) Amendment Bill, approved by Cabinet on Tuesday, aims to address several key issues in the security sector.
It mandates that all security guards possess minimum educational qualifications and undergo thorough vetting and screening before receiving the necessary training to uphold the high standards required by the profession.
During a post-Cabinet briefing, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe said the Bill is designed to ensure that security guards are not only qualified but also capable of performing their duties effectively. That is exactly what we are trying to do. At the moment anybody can wake up and set up a security company and we do not have minimum educational thresholds.
Going forward, we believe the security industry plays a critical role, but they have to be compliant with certain requirements or certain minimum standards, not everybody should just wake up and set up a company or become a security guard.
People cannot be faulted for suspecting that the armed robberies that we are seeing could be a result of the help of these security personnel or companies.
So we need a law that addresses those areas where we can account for them and ensure that they are trained or have requisite security background and are clean and cleared with the capacity to do the work.

Cabinet Approves Educational Threshold, Rigorous Vetting For Security Guards

Police have arrested eight suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies in Bulawayo between February and November 2024.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that the suspects, aged between 24 and 51, targeted service stations, businesses, and homes, stealing cash, cellphones, and valuables.
The suspects are linked to multiple armed robbery cases, including incidents at service stations in Kelvin North and a house in Nkulumane 5, where cash and valuables were stolen. Reads the statement:

ARREST OF EIGHT SUSPECTS FOR ARMED ROBBERIES IN BULAWAYO
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of eight suspects in connection with a series of armed robbery cases which occurred in Bulawayo between 19th February 2024 and 17th November 2024.
The suspects are, Elvis Charakupa (40), Khulumani Moyo (51), Mavrick Dube (32), Mongameli Moyo (27), Nkosilomusi Dube (27), Mabhena Qhawe (43), Vumani Msipa (31) and Conilias Chigara (24).
They targeted service stations, business premises and residential areas, stealing cash, cellphones and other valuables.
On 20th November 2024 detectives in Bulawayo arrested Elvis Charakupa at a house in Mpopoma, Bulawayo following a tip-off which linked him to the armed robbery cases.
The suspect implicated Mavrick Dube and Mongameli Moyo, leading to their arrest in Bulawayo and Tsholotsho.
The other suspects, Nkosilomusi Dube, Mabhena Qhawe, Vumani Msipa and Conilias Chigara were later arrested at Beitbridge Toll Gate along Gwanda-Beitbridge Road.
The arrest led to the recovery of a 0.32 pistol with eight rounds of ammunition as well as two get-away vehicles, a Nissan Note, registration number AFZ 4527 and Toyota Corolla, registration number ACN 3328.
The suspects are linked to 10 cases of armed robbery, including a case of armed robbery which occurred at a service station in Kelvin North, Bulawayo on 22nd April 2024 where USD 550.00 cash and a cell phone were stolen and another case of robbery which occurred at a service station along Market Road, Kelvin North, Bulawayo on 10th November 2024 where USD 600.00 cash was stolen.
The suspects are also clearing a case of armed robbery which occurred on 17th November 2024 at a house in Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo where ZAR 120 000. 00 cash and two cellphones were stolen.
Investigations are in progress to link the suspects to other armed robbery cases which occurred in Filabusi, Gwanda, Plumtree and Beitbridge.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public for providing valuable information which led to the arrest of the suspects.

ZRP Arrests Eight Suspects Behind Multiple Armed Robberies in Bulawayo

A senior Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer has warned security companies that if their guards continue to be involved in criminal activities, such as armed robberies, the companies will be seen as criminal groups pretending to be security providers.
The Officer Commanding Harare province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, urged security companies to regularly check their guards’ lifestyles to ensure they are not living beyond their means. He said (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/security-firms-under-spotlight-over-robberies/">The Herald</a>):

Familiarise yourselves with their backgrounds and behaviours to ensure they align with their responsibilities.
Do not hesitate to terminate the employment of individuals with criminal histories. Never compromise your integrity for profit by hiring criminals.
If your guards continue to be implicated in crime, we will have no choice but to view your organisation as a criminal syndicate masquerading as a security provider.

Recently, there has been a rise in armed robberies where security guards are attacked while carrying large sums of money.
Commissioner Chikunguru suggested that the police and security companies work together more closely to address this issue. He said:

First, I suggest we exchange contact information and start actively communicating, updating each other on what is happening, and sharing ideas on how we can win this battle.
Ensure you have the contact details of your nearest police station, the officers in charge, and other security stakeholders.
When armed robbers strike, contact us, and together we can effectively respond and combat this threat.
Second, I urge you to engage us in helping you vet and train your guards. We welcome the opportunity to address your guards directly, providing them with security tips that can enhance their skills. Invite us to your companies and allow us to assist in this critical area.
Additionally, we can provide counselling for guards struggling with substance abuse, which can adversely affect their performance and effectiveness.

In his third proposal, Commissioner Chikunguru suggested that the police should be given the authority to jointly monitor security guards during night patrols. He said:

You can establish log books for our police officers to sign when they pass by your premises. The finer details of this arrangement can be worked out between your organisation and the local police station, ensuring we collaborate effectively to maintain security. Lastly, I ask for unity in our march against crime.
Collaborate closely with our public relations officers to receive the latest crime tips, share intelligence, and form social media groups to enhance our collective efforts in combating crime.
This united approach will not only strengthen our response but also foster a sense of community vigilance essential in our fight against criminal activities.

Detective Inspector Anele Mkandla, acting officer-in-charge of CID Homicide (Harare), has expressed concern over the increasing number of house and business robberies in Zimbabwe.
He said security guards are being tricked and overpowered by robbers due to inadequate training in firearm use adding that there is a need for better training to help security guards respond effectively to violent crimes.
Mkandla also noted that many business premises rely on security guards and alarm systems, but guards are often captured and disarmed.
Armed robberies have targeted security companies, with reaction teams being cornered and their service pistols stolen, which are then used in other robberies.
Mkandla urged security companies to improve training and support for their guards to combat the rise in violent crimes.

ZRP Urges Security Firms To Conduct Lifestyle Audits On Guards

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported two separate armed robbery incidents last week, in which over US$68,000, five firearms, and seven pepper sprays were stolen.
In the first incident, Police said that two unknown suspects armed with pistols robbed a house in Habane Township, Esigodini, on Saturday around 6:30 PM, making off with US$45,000 in cash.
During the robbery, one of the occupants was shot in the chest and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Bulawayo. Police said:

The ZRP is appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a case of robbery which occurred at a house in Habane Township, Esgodini on 05/10/24 at around 1830 hours.
Two unknown suspects who were armed with two pistols pounced at the house and stole USD 45,000.00 cash.
During the incident, one occupant was shot in the chest and is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Bulawayo.

The second incident occurred on Thursday, at a local security company along Lynnington Road, Strattaven, Avondale, Harare.
Police said eight unknown suspects armed with unidentified pistols and iron bars attacked a security guard and stole US$23 175 cash, as well as five firearms, seven pepper sprays and seven handcuffs. The ZRP said:

On 03/10/24, eight unknown suspects armed with unidentified pistols and iron bars attacked a security guard who was on duty at a local security company along Lynnington Road, Strattaven, Avondale, Harare before stealing US$ 23 175. 00 cash, five firearms, seven pepper sprays and seven handcuffs. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

Police are appealing to the public for assistance in solving these crimes and encourage anyone with information to report to their nearest police station.

US$68,000 And 5 Guns Stolen In Esigodini, Harare Armed Robberies

A suspected armed robber was shot dead by detectives in Domboshawa during a shootout on Saturday, July 27th. Two alleged accomplices were also arrested in the incident.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspects are linked to several armed robberies that occurred between May 31st and July 23rd, 2024 in Harare. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Kenneth Chiputura (50) and Jaison Munyapa (18) in connection with a series of armed robberies which occurred between 31st May 2024 and 23rd July 2024 in July 2024 in Harare.
The other suspect, Raymond Mugabe (39) died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after a shootout with detectives in Domboshava.
On 26th July 2024, Detectives from CID Homicide, Harare, arrested Kenneth Chiputura at his residence in Nhamburo Village, Chinamhora, Domboshava after receiving information linking him to the robberies. The arrest led to the recovery of a bullet proof vest and 40 Chinese Yuan.
Further investigations by the detectives led to the arrest of Jaison Munyapa on 27th July 2024. He was found in possession of a CZ 75 SP-01 pistol, a Retay air gun and an empty bottle of champagne.
Raymond Mugabe, who was implicated in the robberies, was shot by the detectives during a shoot out as the suspect exchanged gunshots with detectives while hiding in a house at Dzorwa Village, Chinamhora, Domboshava. A CZ P-07 pistol, an empty bottle of wine, 0.44 Magnum revolver, a Grand Power 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, 8 X 9mmm magazines, 1 000 X 9mm live rounds, 28 X 303 live rounds and 9 X Magnum rounds were recovered at the scene.
The trio is linked to two armed robbery cases, including the one which occurred on 31st May 2024 at a house along Ruwanga Road, Mandara, Harare where US$15 000.00 cash, four firearms and jewelry were stolen and another robbery case which occurred on 23rd July 2024 at a house along Duiker Street, Mandara, Harare where US$1 000.00 cash and valuables worth US $1 000.00 were stolen.
Investigations are in progress to arrest the outstanding suspects only identified as Blessing and Mavhunga as well as recover stolen property and identify additional cases linked to the suspects.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police commends the public for providing positive information which led to the arrest of the suspects.

Armed Robber Shot Dead By Police In Domboshava

Seven armed robbers pounced on a house in Borrowdale West, Harare on Monday, 22 April, and went away with seven cellphones, a laptop and a car.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident this Wednesday, saying the suspects were armed with four pistols, two machetes and two crowbars.
They allegedly attacked a security guard who was on duty before breaking into the house where they attacked the occupant. Said the ZRP:

Police in Harare are investigating a case of robbery which occurred along Impala Road in Borrowdale West, Harare on 22/04/24. Seven unknown suspects who were armed with four pistols, two machetes and two crowbars attacked a security guard who was on duty before breaking into the house where they attacked the occupant. The suspects ransacked the house and stole seven cellphones and a laptop before loading the loot into the victim’s white Toyota Hilux vehicle registration number AGA 8344 and driving away.

Police also reported on another robbery incident that occurred at Chakohwa Business Centre, Chimanimani on Monday, 22 April.
Three suspects armed with firearms reportedly broke into a cottage and attacked two occupants. They then force-marched one of the victims to a shop where they stole US$30 000.
The suspects are still at large and police are appealing for information that may lead to their arrest.
In 2022, Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga acknowledged that violent crimes, including armed robbery and murder, were on the rise, instilling fear and despair among the populace.
The criminals targeted individuals, businesses, and organizations that held substantial amounts of cash on their premises.
Churches, service stations, and banks also became frequent targets for gun-related crimes, resulting in significant financial losses. Some of these incidents were inside jobs, indicating that the perpetrators had insider information.

Seven Armed Robbers Pounce On Borrowdale West House

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it busted a gang of armed robbers comprising locals and foreigners who were allegedly planning to commit armed robbery in Kwekwe and to kidnap some prominent people in the country for ransom.
Police said two of the suspects were shot dead, while four were injured during a shootout with detectives on Tuesday, 09 December.
A statement issued by ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nyathi this Wednesday, 20 December reads:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the death of Jabulani Ngobeni (45) and Godknows Machingura (44) during a shoot-out incident in Arcadia, Harare and the arrest of Ndiafhi Makhado (39), Andrew Masubelele (38), Paul Zhou (55) and Emmanuel Makamo (22) for conspiracy to commit armed robbery in Kwekwe on 19th December 2023.
Ndiafhi Makhado, Jabulano Ngobeni, Andrew Masubelele and Emmanuel Makamo had travelled from South Africa intending to commit armed robberies.
On 19th December 2023, detectives from CID Homicide, Harare received information that the suspects were booked at a guest house along Mauritius Road, Arcadia, Harare. The detectives raided the guest house resulting in the suspects bolting out of the house.
Jabulani Ngobeni fired shots towards the detectives and a shoot-out ensued, resulting in Jabulani Ngobeni being shot in the hip.
Subsequently, Jabulani Ngobeni, Ndiafhi Makhado, Andrew Masubelele, Paul Zhou and Emmanuel Makamo were arrested.
The arrest led to the recovery of a 9 mm Star Pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.
Ndiafhi Makhado, Jabulani Ngobeni, Andrew Masubelele and Emmanuel Makomo were injured during the shoot-out and were referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment where Jabulani Ngobeni died upon admission.
Paul Zhou confessed to the detectives that he booked the accommodation and hired two vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner registration number AFX 0554 and a Honda Fit vehicle AFO 7446, after receiving US$400.00 from Godknows Machingura.
The suspects revealed to the detectives that they had hatched a plan to commit robbery along Birmingham Road, Kwekwe.
Godknows Machingura was said to be in Shamva where he was monitoring the movement of their target.
Subsequently, Godknows Machingura was lured to Morgan High School, Arcadia, Harare, where he was arrested after being shot in the groin following a speed chase and a shoot-out with the detectives.
The arrest led to the recovery of a 9 mm Taurus Pistol with a magazine of nine live rounds. Godknows Machingura was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he died upon admission.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that any form of confrontation or armed clash with Police reaction teams will be met with the appropriate response.
The Police is concerned with the involvement of foreign nationals in conspiring to commit armed robbery cases in the country.
Police detectives have also gathered information to the effect that the arrested criminals wanted to kidnap some prominent people in the country for ransom.
In this regard, the public is implored to be alert and safety conscious during the holidays.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for supplying positive information to the Police.

Gang Of Armed Robbers Comprising South Africans Intended To Kidnap Prominent People - ZRP

A businessman from Dzivarasekwa, Harare, lost US$3,600 which he was keeping in a safe at a tuckshop when armed robbers pounced on the tuckshop on the 5th of December 2023. A police report seen by Pindula News states that the man was sleeping when two robbers armed with a pistol pounced on the tuckshop and attacked him before getting away with the cash and other valuables. 1. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Men and Women of good will, as the Church begins the Season of Advent, we your shepherds and fellow citizens would like to exhort and reflect with you on this Holy season. Advent is in many ways a season of contradictions. In terms of the Church calendar we are at the beginning of the new Church year and yet civilly we are in the last month of the calendar. Socially, the season is lived in the frenzy of shopping getting ourselves ready for Christmas. Spiritually, we are preparing for the coming of Christ. We remember the Lord’s promise that he will come at the end of time. We also remember that Christ once came and inhabited our common home: mother earth. That was when he was born in Bethlehem of Judea.
2. Christ’s first coming was heralded by the prophets who called him the “Prince of Peace.” At his birth the angels sang “Glory to God in the highest and peace to people of good will. Though Advent presents us with many themes for reflection, the theme of peace seems to be the most imposing one. Globally, we are in a world that has seen a prolonged war between Russia and Ukraine. As if that was not enough, we now have another war in Israel and Palestine. Our own continent is not exempt. In its different regions we have pockets of violence that have seen many people living as the internally displaced or refugees.
3. As a nation our peace is constantly under threat. Not that there is a war threat, far from that, but we are seeing new threats to people’s calm and tranquility, which is what the Hebrew word for peace, “Shalom” entails. There is a high level of crime in many communities. We have seen the upsurge of armed robberies. Gender-based violence in families is on the rise. Politically, we seem to be perpetually in the election mood, a reality that in this country, sends a shudder down the spine. For our elections are characterized by violence.
4. Before and during the elections we made a plea for peace. We emphasized the dignity of the human person, the importance of tolerance, co-existence and suggested the politics of persuasion. We would like to express our gratitude to all citizens who did heed the message of peace. The past election was indeed different. It was not characterized by violence. That should be applauded. Though this is not to say there was no violence. We had hoped that as a nation we had seen the light and we were beginning to appreciate each other as citizens with divergent views and people of different persuasions, men and women who can rise above their differences. Sadly, as reported by the different election observers, our elections left a lot to be desired. They were characterized by a new form of violence: refusal to let the nation’s voices be heard through the ballot. That act of robbing people of their voices is a form of violence that should be condemned by all people of integrity, by all loving and peaceful citizens.
5. In the post-election period most of the gains that we had made; the promotion of peace, diffusing the tensions between various political players and their supporters were lost. There were retributions targeting those who were perceived to have voted wrongly, whatever that means! With the recent political recalls of the elected members of parliament, senators and councilors, the nation has been thrust into a new form of violence: people rightfully elected, can wantonly be recalled. It would seem the voices of the people who voted can easily be ignored. as if they were insignificant. Were those elected not given the mandate by the people? What happens when the people’s voices are silenced by the masters of political expediency? One thing for certain is that people feel they are not respected and listened to. This breeds tensions and many who have no ways of diffusing them bottle them up. This is not healthy for people and the society. If it is true that. ‘an injury to one of us is an injury to all of us; then we are all living in a wounded Society.
6. What d worse is what these recalls have unearthed. Apart from holding all of us in the dreaded perpetual election mode. they have given birth to violence. Even those who, for a short while, had shunned violence. have fallen back on their default position of violent campaigns. People are being abducted, brutalized and left for dead. Recently, a life was lost because of politics What is the objective of this violence? Is it to terrorize people into voting for a particular candidate or not to vote at all? We would like to reiterate what we said before the August elections when we directed our plea to the citizens “…Refuse to oe used in violent attacks against your fellow brothers and sisters. Any party or politician that incites violence or persuades you to loin in violent attacks, is not worthy of your vote. Give your vote to those who deserve it’ To the politicians we said,” _Peace begins with each one of us. In your roles, be ambassadors of peace. Let no blood be shed in your name and for your vote. Remember, “The bloodshed in the land cries out to God (Gen. 4: 10).
7. Together as we prepare to welcome Christ at Christmas, let us remember that when the “Prince of Peace.- and that He Hour Peace. The peace of Christ finds abode. In those who are calm and enjoy tranquility, it also embraces what the ancient Greeks said peace entails- unity and accord. Calm and tranquility, unity and accord are not far from our reach, we can achieve these if once again we recognise the dignity of the human person, something that Christ upheld by choosing to be born In human form and being in solidarity with us which is what his coming as “The Prince of Peace,” entails: ‘He identifies with us in all things but sin’ (Hebrews 4:15).
8. This Advent we once again appeal to our political leaders to denounce politically motivated violence. To the law enforcement agents, bring perpetrators of political violence to book. To the legislators, revisit the enacted laws that can easily be manipulated at the expense of the people’s basic rights and freedoms. It Is in the same vein that we would like to remind everyone that we all have a duty to work for the promotion of peace and to be agents of peace. We all need peace. Lack of peace has a negative effect on our country. Economically, it works against all our ideals of a middle Income economy and the realization of vision 2030. Socially, it breeds animosity and creates a divided nation. Spiritually, it robs us of our identity as the sons and daughters of God for, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called the sons of God’ (Matthew 5:9).
9. In this reflection we would like to exhort all peace4oving Zimbabweans to pray for peace particularly in our land and everywhere in solidarity with other people in other parts of the world which are troubled Let us work to foster peace, the greatest good that facilitates the development of nations and the progress of people. May the Lord look with a kindly countenance on our efforts to promote and build peace. We pray for all those whose mandate In the land is to safeguard the rights of our people that they may never tire in working for the creation of peaceful environments. May Christ, ‘the Prince of Peace’ who Is our Peace come and transform our attitudes and make all of us instruments of his peace.

Statement by ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi on the arrest of several suspected armed robbers and the fatal shooting of two suspects during a shootout in Harare’s Budiriro suburb.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Tinotenda Zhuwawo Dzvairo (27), Tinashe Ray Chirombo (31), Trymore Derere Guta (30), Hebert Clayton Nyamangodo (39), Mugove Chimuti (36) (now late) and Ishmael Mutungira (30) (now late), in connection with seventeen (17) cases of armed robbery which occurred in and around Harare between January 2023 and 11th July 2023.
On 25th July 2023 detectives from CID Homicide, Harare received information that Tinotenda Zhuwawo Dzvairo, Herbert Nyamangodo and Tinashe Chirombo were linked to a spate of robbery cases which were occurring in and around Harare and were travelling in a Toyota Mark II vehicle towards Harare Central Business District from Epworth.
The detectives acted on the received information leading to the arrest of the three (3) suspects along Park Street in Harare Central Business District.
The arrest led to the recovery of a bolt cutter, two (2) cellphones, a watch, eight (8) pairs of shoes and seven (7) baby blankets.
The suspects implicated Trymore Derere Guta leading to his arrest at Munyuki Shopping Centre, Epworth, Harare.
The arrest led to the recovery of a video camera, a watch, jewellery, ten (10) cellphones, five (5) pairs of sneakers, and new baby-wear clothing at the suspect’s residence in Zinyengere, Reuben, Epworth, Harare.
Trymore Derere Guta implicated Ishmael Mutungira and Mugove Chimuti.
On 27th July 2023 detectives from CID received information that Mugove Chimuti and Ishmael Mutungira were staying at a hideout in in Budiriro 5B Harare.
The detectives acted on the information leading to the arrest of the suspects at a house in Budiriro 5 B on 28th July 2023 after a shoot-out.
The arrest led to the recovery of three (3) 303 rifles, a Taurus revolver, six (6) x 12 bore live rounds, three (3) x 0.38 special rounds, and twelve (12) x 7.65 mm live rounds.
Mugove Chimuti and Ishmael Mutungira were injured during the shootout and were referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital where they died upon admission.
The suspects are linked to several cases of robbery where cellphones were stolen from pedestrians at Msasa Industrial area and a case of armed robbery which occurred at a business premise in Chegutu on 11th July 2023 where Trymore Derere Guta was captured on the closed-circuit television footage while committing the offence.
Further, the suspects are clearing a case of armed robbery which occurred at Unadale Farm, Beatrice on 06th July 2023 where various household goods were stolen.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspect’s accomplices identified as, Brighton Mangondo alias Mombe, Jonna, Satan and Ishewekunze.

Two Armed Robbers Killed During Shootout With Police, Several Suspects Arrested

Police have expressed concern over armed robberies being committed in residential areas and on business premises.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi several armed robberies cases, where victims lost thousands of US dollars, were recorded across the country over the past few days.
Asst Comm Nyathi said police have intensified operations targeting robbery syndicates countrywide. He said:

In one of the robbery cases that occurred on 15th July 2023 at a house along North End Close, Mount Pleasant, Harare a woman (39) lost US$2 650.00 cash and a cellphone, to two suspects who were armed with a pistol.
In another robbery case that occurred at a shop in Lalapanzi on 15th July 2023, two (2) suspects attacked four (4) complainants with a machete before stealing US$3 153. 00 cash.
In a related case of robbery, four (4) suspects pounced at a shop at Guwa Village, Musana, Bindura on 15th July 2023 where they stole US$280.00 and ZWL$8 000.00 cash, Econet and Net one airtime, thirteen cellphones and a laptop.
On 17th July 2023, four suspects armed with iron bars and a pistol pounced at a house in Dotito location where they attacked some family members before stealing US$1 600.00 cash, five cellphones, a laptop and a Nissan Caravan vehicle registration number AFM 7122.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that operations targeting robbery syndicates have been intensified throughout the country.

Police Express Concern Over Spike In Armed Robbery Cases

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers in Mutare recently arrested nine armed robbers, including two traditional healers who were found with hyena legs and teeth as well as owl feathers.
<a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/hyena-parts-owl-used-in-money-heist/">The Manica Post</a> reported that the suspects have been linked to the robberies at Delta Beverages’ Chipinge Depot and Knowstics Group of Schools in Mutasa.
The seven suspected robbers are Stanley Zama (29), Raymond Kampilo (31), Chris Chauke (48), Prosper Garikai (46), Brighton Dhliwayo (38), Tendai Mahari (40), and Edson Muchape (38).
The two traditional leaders who were allegedly found in possession of a wooden container with several hyena legs, two hyena teeth and owl feathers are Cephas Mlambo (52) and Clever Sithole (27).
The Sangomas allegedly exercised their spiritual “powers” to protect the suspected robbers from being caught by law enforcement agents.
The suspects were caught after their alleged crimes surfaced during fierce disagreements on how to share the loot.
ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, confirmed the robberies and subsequent arrests.
He said Machape was a security guard at Delta Beverages’ Chipinge Depot when the incident happened, and was the mastermind of the robbery.
Muzondo also said Mahari, who was a cashier at Knowstics Group of Schools, was allegedly having an affair with one of the armed robbers and gave out information to the robbers. Said Muzondo:

Nine notorious robbers have been arrested so far. On June 16, detectives received information from the public, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
Information was leaked after fierce disagreements among the robbers on how to share their loot.
During the course of the interviews, it was established that Edson (Machape) was the mastermind of the robbery at Delta Beverages in Chipinge.
He was heavily involved in providing vital information to his accomplices. He feigned disarmament to facilitate the robbery process.
During the follow-up, it was established that they shared proceeds among themselves, but some were not happy with their shares.
During that period, we then received a tip-off, leading to their arrest.
After the arrest of the robbers, police managed to interview them and established that they were also linked to the Knowstics Group of Schools robbery.
Mahari, the cashier at Knowstics Group of Schools, allegedly had an affair with one of the robbers and facilitated the robbery.

The suspects last week appeared before Mutare regional magistrate, Tilda Mazhande, facing armed robbery charges.
They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to 03 July 2023.

Suspects Use Hyena Teeth, Owl Feathers In Armed Robberies

Police have arrested four suspect armed robbers in Bulawayo and Umguza leading to the recovery of a gas-operated pellet gun, two axes, a machete, a bolt cutter, two pairs of school shoes, a bag, groceries and several balaclavas.
In a statement,  Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Vusumuzi Mguni (24), Mbekezeli Moyo (33), Andile Mudana (25) and Nkazimulo Ndimande Nyoni (27) in connection with armed robbery cases which occurred in Bulawayo from 11th April 2023 to 23rd May 2023.
On 25th May 2023, detectives from CID Homicide, Bulawayo arrested Vusumuzi Mguni for a case of robbery which occurred at a certain homestead at Zangewani Village, Sigola, Umguza on 10th May 2023 and an armed robbery that occurred at Council for the Blind Bulawayo.
The suspect implicated, Nkazimulo Ndimande Nyoni, Uyapho Ndlovu (who is on remand at Khami Prison for other robbery cases), Prosper Moyo alias Professor, Prince Dube and Mukaya.
Vusumuzi Mguni led the detectives to Hawkflight Terminus where Nkazimulo Ndimande Nyoni was arrested after a shootout.
Nkazimulo Ndimande Nyoni was shot in the left thigh and is admitted at a local hospital in Bulawayo.
The arrest led to the recovery of a gas-operated pellet gun, two axes, a machete, a bolt cutter, two pairs of school shoes, a bag, groceries and several balaclavas.
Visumusi Muguni further led the detectives to the arrest of other suspects, Mbekezeli Moyo and Andile Mudana, leading to the recovery of groceries, cosmetics, blankets, kango pots and various clothing, among other valuables.
The suspects are linked to a robbery case that occurred on 11th April 2023 at a certain house in Lovedale Bulawayo, where US$ 785.00, and ZAR 1300.00 cash, beer, two cellphones, meat and fish were stolen, and another robbery case which occurred on 12th April 2023 at a certain house in Mbundane, Bulawayo where US$44.00 and ZAR 350-00 and other valuables worth US$700.00 were stolen.
The suspects also cleared a case of robbery which occurred on 23rd May 2023 at a certain house along Gilchrist Road, Norwood, Bulawayo where the complainant was attacked before household goods, two cellphones and groceries were stolen.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the outstanding suspects identified as, Prosper Moyo alias Professor, Prince Dube, Mukaya and JB.

Police Arrest Four Armed Robbery Suspects In Bulawayo

Armed robbers raided an abattoir and a homestead in two separate incidents in Kwekwe and got away with a total of US$11 000 in cash.
According to Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, both incidents occurred on Wednesday night.
In the first incident, about eight men armed with pistols, iron bars, and machetes arrived at Bellevue Abattoir just outside Kwekwe CBD and threatened workers and security with death. Inspector Mahoko told the Chronicle:

They demanded cash while threatening the workers and security guards, prompting the workers to surrender US$3 511 cash. They proceeded to blast open a safe which was in the store room and took US$813 and vanished after tying the workers with cables.

In the second incident, a group of about six men armed with axes, machetes, and iron bars broke into a house in Redcliff’s Millennium Park suburb. Mahoko said:

They threatened the five occupants who were in the house demanding cash. They ransacked the house and took US$6 243 and seven cellphones before vanishing into the darkness.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information which may lead to the apprehension of the suspects to approach the nearest police station.

Robbers Raid An Abattoir, Home, Get Away With US$11 000 Cash

Botswana police have arrested four Batswana and two Zimbabweans for allegedly robbing the Southern African Development Community (SADC) of property worth R625 000 in January this year.
According to the Botswana Police Service (BPS), the six were arrested in Gaborone on Friday in connection with a robbery in which 18 laptops, six cellphones and a camera were stolen from SADC offices.
BPS public relations officer Dipheko Motube identified the suspects as Mpho Rasetena, 28, Lesego Masilo, 33, Maitapiso Thuso Kgakgamatso, 34, and Otsile Semandi, 40, from Botswana, and Innocent Bushri Shaggy, 31, and Tongai Tsikirayi, 38, from Zimbabwe. Said Motube:

Four Batswana nationals and two Zimbabwean male citizens appeared before Village Magistrate’s Court in Gaborone today (Monday).
… At the time of arrest, the suspects were found in possession of a firearm suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence, and foreign currencies.

The men will appear in court again on 28 March.
There has been an upsurge in armed robbery cases in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana, with nationals from the three countries implicated in transnational armed robberies.
Last month, in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, the South African Police Service (SAPS) was involved in a shootout with 25 suspected armed robbers believed to have been involved in a spate of cash-in-transit heists.
Eight of the suspects were shot dead and 11 arrested while others escaped.
A fortnight ago, Botswana police killed nine people, including a South African man, in a shootout following a cash-in-transit robbery in the capital Gaborone.
Meanwhile, Norton MP, Temba Mliswa (Independent), has urged the SADC organ on security, to deal with armed robberies, which have become a danger in the region. He said:

We cannot continue to keep quiet about the crime rate in South Africa, where Zimbabweans are being implicated.
The rate has gone up and it doesn’t do us any good with those governments. Regionally, the crime rate involving armed robbers has also increased and now requires a holistic approach.
The SADC organ on security should deal with these armed robbers. Expert teams should be organised to deal with these robbers across borders.

Two Zimbabweans Arrested In Botswana After Robbery At SADC Offices

The Botswana Police Service (BPS) said 9 men of Botswana and South African origin were killed on Wednesday 23 February after an exchange of gunfire with police officers in Gaborone.
In a statement, BPS spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube said the shootout followed a cash-in-transit van robbery at the Main Mall in Gaborone during which P1 million was stolen. Read the statement:

Nine men aged between 20 and 35 of Botswana and South African origin died in an exchange of fire with members of the Botswana Police Service this morning (23/02/2022) at Phase 2 location in Gaborone.
This follows an incident in which 11 armed men attacked and robbed Security Systems Cash-in-transit motor vehicle of over P986 000-00 at the Main Mall this morning.
The robbers fled the scene and were, later on, followed and confronted by the Police and an exchange of fire ensued resulting in fatal injuries to some of the robbers.
The Police have, in the process arrested a 30-year-old Motswana woman who was in the company of the robbers.

Assistant Commissioner Motube added that four pistols and an AK-47 Assault Rifle were found in the possession of the robbers whilst an undisclosed amount of cash was recovered.

Botswana Police Kill 9 Armed Robbers After P1 Million CIT Heist

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has reportedly increased security in army barracks across the country following a rise in robberies involving soldiers.
In a bid to weed out “rogue” elements, the military is subjecting vehicles of military personnel and civilians leaving cantonments to thorough searches.
Those leaving barracks with bags are also being subjected to a stop-and-search as the army remains on high alert, reported The NewsHawks. Said a source:

This has always been standard procedure in the army but with time there was laxity.
Now those tasked with security are more vigilant as the military strives to improve discipline in its ranks and also account for rogue elements.

The army’s intelligence department is reportedly going after assets belonging to soldiers implicated in robberies.
This includes tracking and seizure of assets registered in the names of children and wives of the rogue soldiers, suspected to have been from proceeds of crime.
The NewsHawks reported army insiders as saying Lameck Kabara, from the Zimbabwe National Defence College, has since lost a car, house, and other properties, following his arrest in December 2021. Said a security official:

Lameck’s properties were repossessed. After the arrest, the military went after him so that he could get military discipline.
He, like other suspects, was also questioned on the robberies and accomplices and as you know the military interrogation is tough if not brutal.

Kabara reportedly lost properties that include assets in South Africa, a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, an Isuzu single cab truck and a house in Harare’s Zimre Park suburb.
Kabara and Christopher Charuma, who is with the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) based at Manyame Air Base, were arrested over the 24 December armed robbery and murder in Harare.
The duo allegedly committed the crimes together with Perseverence Chihota, a civilian, who was also arrested. They had got away with US$40 000.
According to the police, the two men, wearing balaclavas and armed with a service rifle, an AK47, shot dead Elvis Chijaka and also wounded Brian Chijaka.
Police said Chijaka was shot dead after interrupting a robbery following a call from his sister who was inside the house.

Military 'Tightens Screws' On Rogue Elements

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it is well-equipped to deal with rising armed robbery cases across the country.
In an interview with State media, ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the force received all-terrain vehicles and fuel for the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide Section. He said:

We are not facing any challenges in fighting armed robberies. In fact, we are on top of the situation.
As you are aware, we were given brand new all-terrain vehicles for the CID Homicide Section and also a substantial amount of fuel for operations.

Asst Comm Nyathi implored members of the public and business people to follow safety measures that are being given by the police. He said:

Armed Robberies: Police "On Top Of The Situation"

Local business people say they are now living in fear following a recent spate of armed robberies involving serving and former soldiers and policemen.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), more than US$5 million was lost through robberies from January to October 2021. Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Innocent Guyo, a jewellery trader said:

We are living in fear, what we are hearing in the news daily is shocking and to make it worse the robberies are involving soldiers and members of the police.

A former army officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said these robberies were linked to the dire economic situation facing the majority of Zimbabweans. He said:

People are exploring opportunities available to them to make a living. Politicians are looting national resources; civil servants are taking bribes. The soldiers and police are also using powers at their disposal to make money.
Unlike many countries in the region, Zimbabweans don’t trust their banking system owing to losses incurred from 2007 to 2009, hyperinflation era.
Therefore, everyone keeps money at home in the form of US currency and that is attracting criminals.

On 24 December 2021, two soldiers shot dead a man and injured his relative, in a $40 000 robbery heist in Hatfield, Harare.
On 6 December 2021, an on-duty soldier from the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA)’s elite commando regiment, Tariro Gora, was involved in the fatal shootout at former top police detective Joseph Nemaisa’s Chadcombe house.
Gora was shot dead on the scene by the former detective, together with his two accomplices.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Higher and Tertiary Education minister Godfrey Gandawa said the robbers were using guns stolen from the state armoury during the 2017 military coup.
At that time, the police and intelligence services were disarmed by soldiers as they were believed to be against the putsch. Gandawa tweeted:

The seemingly sudden wave of armed robberies involving members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is linked to the chaotic, unlawful, and dangerous takeover of armouries during the 2017 coup, where the police and intelligence services were disarmed without a formal handover-takeover process.
… It is unclear whether these weapons were returned to state custody. These weapons add a new dimension to Zimbabwe’s security situation.

Business People Living In Fear Over Rising Robbery Cases Involving Soldiers

Statement by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Senior Staff Officer (Press, Public and Int. Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on robbery cases in mining areas.

ROBBERY CASES IN MINING AREAS
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with the occurrence of robbery cases in mining sites where armed gangs are targeting artisanal miners and individuals who are keeping large sums of money or gold at home and business premises.
In one incident, on 23rd November 2021 at about 0030 hours seven (7) unknown suspects who were covering their faces with balaclavas, armed with machetes and bicycle chains stormed Orobredo 11 Mine, Battlefields.
The suspects broke into a cabin where seven (7) artisanal miners were housed. They assaulted the complainants with machetes and chains while demanding cash and valuables.
Four of the complainants sustained severe injuries which include deep cuts on the body and were referred to Kadoma District Hospital for treatment. The suspects took US$905-00 and six (6) cellphones.
In another armed robbery case that occurred at M and A Kiosk Mine in Filabusi on 20 November 2021, at around 0130 hours, a 40-year-old male adult was attacked by eight unknown suspects while he was attending to his pumps at a carbon tank. The suspects got away with 200 kgs of non-pregnant carbon valued at US$160-00.
Another robbery case occurred at Shangani Mine Compound, Fort Rixon on 19th November 2021 at around 1300 hours.
A 26-year-old man went to the bush to relieve himself and was attacked by the accused person, Terrence Masango (23) using a machete.
The suspect, who has since been arrested forcibly took the complainant’s wallet containing US$90-00 and fled.
In Chinhoyi, eight male adults approached a security guard who was manning premises at Eldorado Mine elution plant on 13 November 2021 at around 0300 hours while armed with iron rods.
The suspects disarmed the guard who was armed with a 12 bore Mossberg shotgun and tied him with electric cables.
They broke into the elution plant and stole gold loaded wire wools and stole the security guard’s Itel cellphone.
The Mossberg shotgun was recovered by the police dumped at the 110km peg along the Harare – Chirundu highway. The stolen property is valued at US$ 82 915-00.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has stepped up surveillance and monitoring activities at mining sites. The law will be applied without fear or favour to any gangs targeting miners. Mine owners and management are urged to step up security at their premises.

FULL TEXT: Armed Robbers Wreak Havoc In Mining Areas - Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says criminals should not expect leniency when they resist arrest or fire towards police officers.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned robbers that the police officers are empowered by the law to protect themselves and effect arrests against hostile criminals. He said:
<blockquote>When people commit crimes, they should not resist arrest or police orders. So robbers who fire towards the police should not expect any leniency because the law is very clear in terms of how firearms can be used against hostile criminals.
We are forging ahead with fishing them out and we have set up crack teams throughout the country, we are not going back. Those engaged in robbery should stop forthwith.</blockquote>
Recently, police apprehended a number of notorious armed robbery suspects including the Godfrey Josi-led gang, which was implicated in multiple heists.
Benjamin Craig Musasa and Richard Mutanga, who were part of the gang, were killed after gun battles with law enforcement agents.
Meanwhile, police say they have set up specialised crack teams of detectives targeting the masterminds of armed robberies.
This is in response to a rise in armed robberies, with at least six robberies being committed in Zimbabwe daily.
According to consolidated robbery statistics released by the ZRP last week, 876 robbery cases were recorded between January and May this year, an increase compared to the same period last year.
During this period, there were 11 cases of robbery perpetrated using firearms, 427 committed using other weapons and 438 cases of plain robbery.
May had the most robbery activity with a total of 189 cases recorded, an increase of 95 cases compared to last year.

"Police To Show No Mercy Towards Gun-toting Robbers"

The government has given police crack teams the green light to shoot and kill suspected armed robbers following a surge in violent crime in the past few weeks.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba announced the new measures on Monday after police and armed robbers were involved in a series of gunfights in Harare over the weekend.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe also said the government would, from now on, show no mercy on the armed robbers. He said:
<blockquote>The armed robbers are being accounted for. Seven notorious ones were accounted for on Sunday.
Police will descend on them heavily and the long arm of the law will catch up with them.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Monday assured members of the public that all known armed robbers will be accounted for. He said:
<blockquote>We are not going back and the crack teams that we set up are all over the country tracking the armed robbers, so to those who will try to hide, they will certainly be found and arrested.
The public must rest in the comfort that the police currently are on top of the situation and we are tracking all known armed robbers as evidenced by what happened last weekend.
So far, from those we arrested, three people have died. Yesterday, we were talking of one robber who died, now they are three. One of them died this (yesterday) morning.</blockquote>

Govt Okays 'Shoot To Kill' Policy As Armed Robbery Cases Surge

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe said that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has taken numerous measures to combat rising crime across the country.
He said ZRP has intensified foot, cycle and motorised patrols in crime-prone areas among other measures to arrest a surge in violent crime cases in recent months.
Kazembe was responding to Nketa Constituency legislator Phelela Masuku (MDC Alliance) who had asked him about measures being implemented by Government to stop the rising crimes. Said Kazembe:
<blockquote>There are numerous ongoing measures aimed at curbing armed robberies, burglaries and muggings which include the following: intensifying foot, cycle and motorised patrols in crime-prone areas.
In addition, the Commissioner-General has directed all officers commanding provinces to deploy Support Unit, Criminal Investigations Department, Duty Uniform Branch and Police Intelligence in hot spots to curtail the robbery cases.
The police command is engaging the Judiciary as well as another measure, urging them to impose stiffer penalties on perpetrators of violent crimes such as armed robberies, muggings and murder as a deterrent measure.</blockquote>
Kazembe said it was unwise for members of the public to keep large sums of cash at home or business premises as they risk falling victim to armed robbers. He said:
<blockquote>We are also heightening awareness campaigns, educating members of the public not to keep large sums of money at home or business premises or even to move around with huge sums of money. You find for instance people moving around with R190 000.
I know there is a case where this amount was stolen. You find people keeping as much as close to a million United States dollars in a company safe when financial institutions are available.</blockquote>
Kazembe also blamed the increase in firearms on smuggling and on some licensed firearms owners’ failure to secure their guns. He said:
<blockquote>Some licensed firearms owners are also not securing their weapons and, in the process, end up losing them to criminals who then use them to commit robbery cases.
Accordingly, the police are intensifying roadblocks, stop and searches as well as awareness campaigns to conscientise firearm license holders to adhere to the provisions of the Firearms Act which demands the safe storage of firearms at all times.</blockquote>

Police Deploy Special Units To Crime Hotspots

Officer commanding Bulawayo Province Commissioner Patton Mbangwa has chided security companies for sleeping on the job and providing shoddy service to clients.
Comm Mbangwa said cases of security guards sleeping on the job are so rampant in the city and some of them do not seem to know their duties.
He was speaking during a meeting between the police, security companies and the business sector in Bulawayo on Monday.
The meeting was held in the wake of rising cases of armed robberies that have rocked the city. Said Comm Mbangwa:
<blockquote>Some of your security personnel have reduced themselves to washing people’s hands at entry points, sanitising hands, as opposed to focusing on security matters.
They are supposed to be alert and surveilling what is happening. Be seen and be known for what you are employed for, if you are a security person at a shop be monitoring for suspicious people, suspicious groups.
Ask yourself why certain people are in the shop and what is the person doing.</blockquote>
Comm Mbangwa challenged security companies to be security conscious and change their behaviour.
Bulawayo’s top cop said police investigations have also led to the conclusion that most cash-in-transit heists are a result of inside information. He said:
<blockquote>People knew that there was money coming from Victoria Falls to Access Finance Bureau de-Change, the moment the money arrived at Access Finance they were raided. Who was telling them that the money had arrived?
That is why we are saying, are our people properly trained in security issues and matters. My wish is for us to put our houses in order.
There might be shortfalls and difficulties but let’s have the police coming in as a support measure.
If you know that you are expecting a lot of money, why don’t you contact the police? And we are going to deploy people who are going to shoot at criminals.</blockquote>
Comm Mbangwa also challenged the business sector to be security conscious, citing the robbery at Choppies Supermarket in Parklands as an example of laxity even by internal security. He said:
<blockquote>The whole thing is, are we security conscious as the business sector? We had a certain gentleman who was in that shop for a very long time, but the people in the shop didn’t care about that.
He was moving in the shop from 8 AM up until the money came (about three hours later) and when the money came, he produced a pistol.
Your closed-circuit television (CCTV) is there but no one is there monitoring who is who.</blockquote>
Following Monday’s meeting, it was resolved that another meeting be held next week.

Police Challenge Security Companies To Change Approach

Police in Bulawayo are on Monday expected to hold a meeting with local business to strategise on how to deal with armed robberies that have become rampant in the city.
This comes after high-profile robberies have been recorded in the city over the past few weeks.
A cashier at a liquor store was last week on Saturday <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/25/liquor-supplies-shooting-victim-named/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">shot dead during a robbery</a>, and six days later a gang of armed robbers <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/27/armed-robbers-raid-choppies-supermarket/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">hit a cash-in-transit security company at Choppies Supermarket</a>, getting away with seven trunks full of cash.
Residents have called for a shoot-to-kill approach to contain the situation, while police believe there could be security gaps from the business sector that are being taken advantage of by robbers.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the all-stakeholders meeting set for today.
The meeting would be attended by representatives from sectors such as private security, banking, retail including butcheries, mining and industrial sector. Said Insp Ncube:
<blockquote>We are organising a meeting with the business sector to discuss the rise of armed robbery cases.
We have observed that there could be some security gaps from the business sector which play to the advantage of the robbers.
Hence, the meeting is aimed at engaging the key players in the business sector and we invite leaders of their associations to a meeting which we are going to hold on Monday 31 May.</blockquote>
Business Against Crime Forum of Zimbabwe secretary-general Reggie Sibanda said the business sector welcomes the meeting as it aims to tackle one of the most critical issues at hand.

Police, Business Meet Over Worrying Spike In Armed Robberies

ZRP has warned members of the public that armed robbery cases are on the rise in Harare and other areas too. Urging people to stay alert ZRP revealed a case of an armed robbery that occurred along Seke Road after armed robbers barricaded the road with stones and said:
<blockquote>ZRP warns members of the public to be wary of robbery cases which are on the increase in Harare and other areas. In one such case which occurred on the 24/01/21 at about 1900 hrs along Seke Road, some robbers blocked the road using stones.
A motorist and his friend stopped to clear the road before three men pounced on them in search of some money and other valuables. This comes barely a month since Zimbabwe recorded its biggest cash heist when armed robbers disarmed security guards who had given them a lift along the Harare Chinhoyi Highway and drove away with $2.5 Million US that was meant to be distributed to different ZB Bank branches.
ZNA also said <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/24/zna-warns-the-public-to-be-on-the-lookout-for-rogue-soldiers/">some rogue soldiers deployed to different parts</a> of the country were committing some of the armed robberies being recorded in some parts of the country.

Armed Robberies On The Rise In Harare - ZRP

Police have launched a manhunt for a group of six armed robbers that shot and injured a police officer and robbed 59 other passengers aboard a Smart Express bus on Saturday.
The passengers lost money and other valuables in the raid which occurred 20km before Beitbridge town around 3 am.
The injured police officer, Sergent Desire Hombarume, is admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying police were worried about the recurrence of hijackings and armed robberies along the Masvingo to Beitbridge and Bulawayo to Beitbridge routes.
Ass Comm Nyathi advised public transporters to observe the 10 pm to 6 am curfew regulations.
