Former South African President Jacob Zuma was officially expelled from the African National Congress (ANC) on Friday.
The party’s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal upheld his earlier expulsion for endorsing and leading the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.
ANC national spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri confirmed Zuma’s expulsion. She said (via <a href="https://www.citizen.co.za/news/south-africa/politics/anc-confirms-jacob-zuma-expulsion/">The Citizen</a>):

This decision reaffirms the ANC’s commitment to revolutionary morality, revolutionary discipline, and democratic centralism.

Bhengu-Motsiri said as a former president of the ANC, he was expected to “embody the highest standards of disciplined leadership” for all members of the party and society. She added:

Discipline is a core foundation of our movement, ensuring unity of purpose and unity in action. It is during testing moments of trial and challenge that the most advanced cadres are distinguished by their unwavering commitment to the principles which have held this movement together, respect for organisational processes, and loyalty to the collective decisions of the movement.
Mr Zuma’s behaviour exemplifies the highest form of ill-discipline and a direct assault on the historical mission of the ANC…
His actions have undermined the unity and cohesion of the movement at a time when it is critical to consolidate and push forward with organisational renewal and confront the pressing challenges facing South Africa.
This severe breach of our organisational foundation necessitated his expulsion to safeguard the ANC’s integrity and ensure that the unity of the organisation remains in form and content.

The ANC officially severed ties with Zuma in July, after the party’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) decided to expel him following a disciplinary hearing held on July 23 in his absence.
The ANC accused Zuma of violating Rule 25 of the party’s constitution by founding the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party in December.

ANC Appeal Committee Confirms Jacob Zuma’s Expulsion

ANC Youth League leader Collen Malatji has called on EFF leader Julius Malema to return to the ANC, saying his expulsion was “reckless” and “harsh.”
Malatji added that they would welcome him back, as Malema was shaped by the ANC, having been influenced by the Youth League. <a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/to-survive-zumas-wrath-malema-must-return-to-the-anc-ancyl-leader-collen-malatji-1bf8895f-3ba1-43cc-91e2-836e062ef522">Said Malatji</a>:

I think that decision was too harsh, we should found a better way. He went out of his way misled by Floyd [Shivambu] who never loved the ANC.
They went and formed a political party that now Floyd has left because of the snake that ate him.

Malatji made these comments in an interview with MDN TV on Monday, amid struggles within the EFF, including resignations, internal conflicts, and factionalism.
Recently, several high-ranking EFF members, such as Floyd Shivambu, Dali Mpofu, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, and Jimmy Manyi, left the party to join the MK Party, led by former president Jacob Zuma.
They claimed the MK Party offered a solution to the ongoing struggles of black people.
Zuma resigned in 2018 under pressure from the ANC, facing corruption charges and accusations of taking money from the Gupta family.
The EFF, led by Malema, was the main party pushing for his impeachment.
Malatji suggested that Malema misjudged Zuma’s willingness to forgive his expulsion from the ANC and made a mistake.
He warned that Malema should return to the ANC to avoid Zuma’s revenge, describing Zuma as a “snake” who could slowly destroy the EFF. Said Malatji:

Zuma is not a forgiving person, he is going to destroy him because he is doing everything in his power to destroy him because is settling scores.
He is to blame because he brought a snake into his home. Now the snake is eating all these kids (EFF members).
He must take responsibility for bringing a snake into his home, it’s him who went and collected the snake.
If it’s biting him, we wish him all the best but he wants the poison to kill the snake, he must come to us, and we will give him the poison to kill the snake. But he is to blame for what is happening.

Meanwhile, the EFF is currently preparing for its elective conference next month.

Malatji warns that Zuma may destroy the EFF and advises Malema to return to the ANC for protection. The EFF is facing internal conflicts and preparing for a conference. Malema should take responsibility for bringing trouble to the party.

Malema Urged To Rejoin ANC To Escape Zuma’s "Snake-like" Revenge

South Africa’s largest political party, the African National Congress (ANC), has rejected a call by the Democratic Alliance (DA) to move the 44th SADC Summit from Zimbabwe to another country.
Last week, the DA urged the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to relocate the summit from Harare, following the Zimbabwean government’s intensified crackdown on democracy activists.
However, addressing reporters over the weekend, acting ANC spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi said South Africa does not “run away from conflict areas” and would instead address the alleged political violence in Zimbabwe as part of the SADC Summit discussions. Said Godlimpi:

On the issue of the Zimbabwe situation, we have noted reports that some political parties in South Africa suggest that that should lead to a rescheduling of the SADC Summit that is going to be held in Harare.
The ANC does not agree with that stance. If there are issues arising in Zimbabwe that require the intervention of the SADC community, it would have to happen including as part of the summit itself.
South Africa has never been in a position where we ought to run away from areas of conflict and say our best way of engaging in solving conflict is to pull away.
If South Africa has to go there to help in any situation or if there are concerns about political violence, we will do it in Zimbabwe and now away.

In a statement issued on Friday, 02 August, the DA’s spokesperson on International Relations and Cooperation, Emma Louise Powell MP, called on SADC to move its 44th Summit scheduled to be held on 17 August 2024 in Harare, Zimbabwe, to a different location. She said:

The Democratic Alliance calls on the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, to exercise South Africa’s right as a member of SADC and urgently demand that the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government – scheduled to be held on 17 August 2024 in Harare, Zimbabwe, be moved to a different location.
The DA makes this call following multiple reports of yet another state-sponsored clampdown on pro-democracy activists by a paranoid ZANU-PF regime, fearing public protests in the lead-up to the summit.
The SADC’s founding treaty mandates member states to act in accordance with the principles of “human rights, democracy and the rule of law.”
ZANU-PF illegitimate regime in Harare has yet again violated these principles with impunity in the lead-up to the summit.

Another group wanted the meeting moved because of problems in Zimbabwe, like hurting people who want democracy. But ANC says they won't run away from problems, they will try to help in Zimbabwe. The two groups have different ideas on how to deal with the situation. The meeting will still happen in Zimbabwe, but the topic of the problems will be discussed.

South Africa's ANC Rejects Call To Move SADC Summit From Zimbabwe

ZANU PF First Secretary President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday urged Party members to resist an alleged onslaught from Western countries against liberation movements in the region.
This comes weeks after South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) lost its parliamentary majority for the first time since the end of apartheid in 1994.
In the National and Provincial Elections held on 29 May 2024, the ANC garnered a mere 40.2% of the vote, down from the 57.5% it received in 2019.
The ANC is now engaged in talks with various other parties such as DA and IFP to form a unity government for it to remain in power.
Addressing the 376th Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo at the party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, Mnangagwa said:

I challenge us to remain vigilant and resolute in the face of the neo-imperial machinations from our country’s detractors.
Lessons and emerging trends against former liberation movements within and beyond the region are stark reminders of the sustained hegemonic tendencies of our erstwhile colonisers.
We must raise the political consciousness of our membership to defend our country, independence and territorial integrity, now and into the future.
</blockquote>
ZANU PF failed to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament in the 2023 general elections even though the polls were condemned by international observer missions, including SADC, as not meeting regional standards.
However, soon after the elections an unknown former MDC member Sengezo Tshabangu recalled elected opposition CCC representatives saying he was the party’s interim secretary-general.
Subsequent by-elections enabled ZANU PF to finally secure a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly, amid reports Mnangagwa intends to hang on to power beyond 2028 when his second and final term ends.

ANC Poll Disaster Unnerves Mnangagwa, ZANU PF

South Africa and ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership is now on shaky ground after he reportedly lost his grip on the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
<a href="https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/just-in-president-cyril-ramaphosa-has-lost-his-grip-on-anc-nec-amid-gnu-talks-with-da-bc907e0a-263f-42c1-9dcd-53d60da0fe16">IOL</a> reported “highly placed sources within the NEC” as saying there has been a significant shift in the balance of power away from Ramaphosa following a move to push through an ANC-DA coalition government.
The ANC’s NEC met last week to discuss its various options for forming a new government.
The ANC-DA coalition was defeated, with the NEC favouring a more measured Government of National Unity (GNU).
However, some ANC officials are reportedly frustrating parties like the EFF and MKP out of any discussions.
The ANC failed to win an outright majority in the 29 May National and Provincial elections and received 40.18% support.
Speaking to IOL, political analyst Professor Sipho Seepe said Ramaphosa failed to deliver and should resign. He said:

Any leader who has any integrity will not be forced to step down from the position. The election outcomes were disastrous… Ramaphosa is obsessed with the idea of being a president.
</blockquote>
Seepe said if an ANC-DA coalition was pushed through, it could spell the end of Ramaphosa in the ANC.
He argued that it was a wrong move for the president to even consider talks with the DA after it had opposed many of its policies over the years including the recent signing of the National Health Insurance (NHI) bill. He said:

Don’t be surprised when people take you as the enemy. The DA has opposed many policies of the ANC, so why go with a party that has always pushed you around?
This is the same party that suggested it would take further steps on the Phala Phala matter.
</blockquote>
The growing influence of ANC Chairperson Gwede Mantashe, Deputy President Paul Mashatile, and Nomvula Mokonyane over the NEC is being viewed as a sign of the shifting power dynamic within the party. Said a source:

Ramaphosa has lost the NEC and this is going to prove detrimental to him in the next few weeks or months. The push for a DA coalition by those loyal to the president was widely rejected by the NEC.
</blockquote>
Reports at the weekend suggested that the ANC NEC was concerned that those close to Ramaphosa were trying to engineer “side deals” with the DA.
The meeting, apparently widely rejected a coalition with the DA and was said to be in favour of an ANC, IFP, EFF, and PA coalition. Said a source:

The NEC could not bring itself to work with the DA and preferred the so-called “black pact” grouping. Ideologically it makes sense for the ANC.
</blockquote>
Another IOL source said the sense from the NEC was that if the ANC-DA coalition was pushed, it will end in tears for Ramaphosa. Said the source:

The NEC will recall him if this line continues. The last meeting was a clear indicator of this. In fact, the GNU could very well have a different president in a couple of months. That is how fluid the situation is right now.
</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Seepe warned that the ANC-DA coalition would be the total end of the ANC.

Ramaphosa Loses Grip On ANC NEC Amid GNU Talks With DA | Report

South African opposition politician Mmusi Maimane has criticised the African National Congress (ANC) for inviting Zimbabwe’s ZANU PF to campaign on its behalf ahead of the 29 May national and provincial elections.
ANC’s first deputy secretary-general, Nomvulo Mokonyane recently announced that South Africa’s ruling party had invited its Zimbabwean counterpart, ZANU PF, to campaign on its behalf, and participate as an observer mission during the elections.
Moreover, a recent report by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/anc-invites-zanu-pf-for-mop-up-rally/">The Herald</a> claimed ZANU PF Secretary General Obert Mpofu said his party will not rule out sending teams to South Africa to assist the ANC. 
However, Maimane, who leads Build One South Africa (BOSA), said ZANU PF has a track record of rigging elections, something the ANC should not seek to emulate or support. Said Maimane (via <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/why-involve-zanu-pf-rigging-masters-fumes-sa-opposition-as-anc-invites-zim-ruling-elite-to-help-mobilise-voters/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>):

It is now widely accepted that ZANU PF rigs elections in Zimbabwe to favour itself and to continue its misrule of the country.
ZANU PF has used fear, intimidation, violence and suppression of and against the people of Zimbabwe.
It has presided over an autocratic, authoritarian and repressive regime, trampling on the democratic rights of Zimbabweans.
Unsurprisingly, the ANC is a bedfellow of ZANU PF, considering it too is desperate to cling to power at any cost.
We reject this with the contempt it deserves and wish to tell ZANU PF they are not welcome in South Africa…
If ZANU PF continues to influence the ANC we will no longer have free and fair elections. They will learn bad tricks from ZANU PF. They do not even know how to count votes.

South Africa will hold elections on 29 May 2024, with nearly 28 million registered voters set to elect representatives to the national and provincial parliaments.

SA's Mmusi Maimane Criticises ANC For Inviting ZANU PF To Help Campaign

Renowned Zimbabwean journalist and filmmaker, Hopewell Chin’ono, said Zimbabwean and South African citizens should work together to bring to an end “corrupt rule” in their countries.
South Africa is governed by the ANC, whose support has been dwindling since the attainment of majority rule in 1994.
ZANU PF has overseen the near-collapse of Zimbabwe’s economy and social service for the past 43 years since the country gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1980.
While ZANU PF won Zimbabwe’s disputed elections held on 23 August 2023, South Africans will vote in 2024, with the ANC’s majority in Parliament under threat.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Chin’ono said ZANU PF and ANC elites are now out of touch and Zimbabweans and South Africans should “bin” the corrupt parties as they did to the Ian Smith’s Rhodesian government and the Apartheid regime, respectively. He wrote:

It is a tragedy that the ANC South African Government fails to understand that a working Zimbabwe will be more beneficial for South Africa and its citizens.
Its support for corrupt rule and rigged elections in Zimbabwe will be remembered for generations to come as a stain on our friendship as a people.
South African citizens don’t benefit from Zimbabwe’s collapse, it is only the business elites who get cheap labour and the political elites who get bribes.
South African citizens have to share social services like healthcare and social welfare with Zimbabweans. 
Zimbabweans would like to stay home and work for their country and only go to South Africa for holidays.
But it is the rigged elections that have pushed them to cross the crocodile-infested Limpopo River to survive.
As citizens of both countries, we should fight for better governance and accountability, and not allow the fake revolutionary nonsense that is used to loot and pillage both countries by the corrupt elite!
It is unthinkable that the ANC which had Secretary Generals like Alfred Nzo has now been reduced to a laughing stock that supports election theft and lies about the causes of Zimbabwe’s troubles.

Zimbos, SAns Urged To Dump "Fake Revolutionary Parties" ZANU PF And ANC

The secretary-general of South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, said Western countries should desist from meddling in Zimbabwe’s affairs but should respect the results from the recently-held Harmonised Elections.
Mbalula said the ANC rejects some preliminary reports on Zimbabwe’s elections, saying the party had sent its own observer mission to Zimbabwe, which will report on the elections, instead of relying on third parties.
Posting on X, Mbalula called upon Western countries to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe to allow the southern African country’s economy to flourish. He said:

The ANC position discredits reports which contained glaringly broad, subjective claims and conclusions that were all based on indirect observation of the election.
We did send an observer mission as the ANC to Zimbabwe, this week will give us a report and we make our position clear with regard to the outcome of the Zim elections.
I support democracy, we need to support the democratic outcome and stop meddling in Zimbabwe’s affairs by way of seeking to subvert democratic outcomes, and lift sanctions so that Zimbabwe’s economy can flourish and Zimbabweans go and work in their country.

Responding to accusations that he was biased towards ZANU PF, Mbalula said:

I have not pronounced on the Zimbabwe election outcome. After the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission pronounced President Emmerson (Mnangagwa) I said ‘Viva’ that’s all.
ZANU PF is supported by Zimbabweans that is a fact, they pulled big rallies in that country.

Zimbabwe 2023 Elections: South Africa's ANC Stands With ZANU PF

South African opposition leader, Mmusi Maimane, has blamed the ruling African National Congress (ANC) for the immigration crisis in that country by “enabling” corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the ZANU PF.
Maimane, who is the leader of Build One South Africa, made the remarks after the Pretoria High Court ruled that the termination of Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEPs) was unconstitutional.
The ZEP permits were due to expire today, 30 June, by the South African Government had already given ZEP holders a further six months to regularise their stay or face deportation.
Maimane, who is a former leader of South Africa’s biggest opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa has a role to defend democracy in Zimbabwe. <a href="https://twitter.com/MmusiMaimane/status/1674298480804655105?s=20">He said</a>:

The ANC government has for years enabled corruption and oppression in Zimbabwe by the ZANU PF.
How? They ignored rigged elections and farm invasions. Instead of putting out the fire next door, they gave Mugabe and Mnangagwa matches and paraffin.
The fire that burned created the immigration crisis we are living with. That South Africa is paying for.
The courts have no choice but to uphold refugee laws and the constitution. If we want to solve the immigration crisis we have to go directly to the root of the problem namely the dictatorship in Zimbabwe.
We must stop supporting elections that are not conducted in a free and fair environment, we must stop supporting elections that are rigged and we must stop allowing South African banks to be used by money laundering members of the Gold Mafia.
We cannot keep supporting ZANU PF because of what they did during the liberation struggle. They are now the oppressor.
We must be honest and direct with them and tell them that we cannot afford to keep paying the bill for their oppression and corruption. Time is up.
To solve this issue we need to make sure that there are free and fair elections in Zimbabwe in August. That doesn’t happen in August, it starts now.
South Africa has influence on Zimbabwe and we must use it, more than we use our influence on Russia and Ukraine because this is happening in our neighborhood…
The immigration crisis was caused by a democracy crisis in Zimbabwe. As a robust constitutional democracy, we have a role to advance democracy in Africa and to defend democracy in Zimbabwe.
To solve the immigration crisis in South Africa we must go directly to the source of the problem. We must treat the disease and not just the symptoms.
If the ANC government does not want to cut ties with ZANU PF and be non-aligned in Zimbabwe then we must vote for leaders who are not afraid and who are willing and able to hold leaders in neighboring countries accountable for the problems they create for South Africa.

ANC To Blame For Influx Of Zimbabweans Into South Africa - Maimane

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has said illegal migrants are putting a heavy strain on the country’s fiscus with adverse effects on service delivery and high unemployment, among other things.
Mbalula made the remarks while addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference over the weekend.
He said the issue of illegal migrants has been a ticking time bomb for the country. Mbalula said:

Illegal immigrants put a heavy strain on the fiscus with adverse effects on service delivery, the overstretched health sector, high unemployment and poverty.
Illegal immigrants have been a ticking time bomb for the country, which has been an albatross of the ANC-led government to accelerate service delivery at a faster pace and the outbreak of violence as attested to by the violent attacks in Diepsloot on June 21.
</blockquote>
Mbalula implored communities to exercise restraint and avoid damage to property and life.
Last week Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi briefed the ANC’s national working committee (NWC) on migration.
He suggested changes to immigration policies, including amendment proposals on citizenship, immigration and refugee protection.
Mbalula said the ANC’s NWC noted the briefing and emphasised the need for a balance between national interests and international solidarity, particularly within the Pan-African context.
On 07 June, this year, Motsoaledi extended the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP), which would have expired at the end of June, to 31 December 2023.
The extension of the ZEP permit means that holders can enter and leave South Africa provided they comply with all other requirements for crossing the border.

ANC Says Illegal Immigrants A Burden On South Africa's Fiscus

A senior official of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), has blamed the United States and the United Kingdom for the mass exodus of Zimbabweans from their country to South Africa.
Speaking at the party’s Western Cape elective conference on Saturday, 24 June, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula said it looks as if all Zimbabweans have migrated to South Africa.
Mbalula said Zimbabweans are everywhere, from Gugulethu to Khayelitsha.
Gugulethu is a township in the Western Cape Province and is 15 km from Cape Town, while Khayelitsha is located on the Cape Flats in the City of Cape Town.
Mbalula claimed that Zimbabwe’s economic challenges that have resulted in mass emigration were caused by the U.S. and Britain. He said:

Zimbabwe as a country has moved to South Africa. From Gugulethu to Khayelitsha, there is Zimbabwe there.
The whole country of Zimbabwe has moved to South Africa. And then we say to the Americans… the British, give Zimbabwe what they deserve.
Because you agreed in Lancaster that you will give them £40 billion for the land reform and redistribution programme.

There have been clashes between South Africans and immigrants from other African countries.
Zimbabwean national <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Elvis_Nyathi">Mbodazwe Elvis Nyathi</a> was killed in a Xenophobic attack in Diepsloot Ext 1, northern Johannesburg on the night of 6 April 2022.
He was killed by a mob who were going around the neighbourhood demanding to see identity documents.
On Wednesday, 07 June, South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi extended the validity of the <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwean_Exemption_Permit_Visa">Zimbabwe Exemption Permit</a> (ZEP) dispensation.
He said the holder of a ZEP permit will be allowed to enter and exit South Africa, provided they comply with all entry or exit requirements.
ZEP holders would not be required to present an exemption permit or authorisation letter to remain in the country during the extension period.

Zimbabwe As A Country Has Moved To South Africa - ANC

South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC)’s secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has been implementing reforms but the West still wants CCC’s Nelson Chamisa to become Zimbabwe’s new president.
Addressing the ANC 9th Western Cape Provincial Conference on Saturday, 24 June, Mbalula said:

(President) Mnangagwa brought some reforms in Zimbabwe, but they (the West) did not want those reforms because they want a man called (Nelson) Chamisa.
They want him there to be the leader; the new leader of a new Zimbabwe.
And then we say to the Americans and say to the British, give the Zimbabweans what they deserve, because you agreed in Lancaster that you will give them £40 billion for land reform and redistribution programme.

Meanwhile, Chamisa kicked off his campaign ahead of the August 23 elections by addressing Zimbabweans based in South Africa.
Addressing a campaign rally in Johannesburg on Saturday, Chamisa pleaded with Zimbabweans in that country to support the CCC. He said:

Lets us go back and mobilise, we count on you. We want you to help with resources, one rand or US$1 can make a huge difference.
Zambians did it, Malawians also did it, Kenyans also did it, they did it in DRC…if they are doing it, why can’t we also do it?
</blockquote>
In the 2018 elections, Chamisa lost to Mnangagwa by a narrow margin and he challenged the results in court alleging rigging.
However, Mnangagwa’s victory was upheld by the Constitutional Court.

West Wants Chamisa As Zimbabwe's Next President, Says Mbalula

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has expelled former Secretary-General, Ace Magashule.
Magashule was found guilty of misconduct. He also failed to make submissions as to why he should not be expelled from the party after he was given seven days to do so.
In 2021, Magashule unilaterally attempted to suspend party president Cyril Ramaphosa and subsequently refused to apologise to the party’s president and its structures.
He was suspended from the ANC in the same year following corruption charges and was then forced to step aside in line with the ANC’s new rules for those facing corruption and other serious charges.
The ANC announced Magashule’s expulsion from the party in a statement released on Monday afternoon. Reads the statement:

1. The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the African National Congress (ANC) met to deliberate on charges preferred against its former Secretary-General, Comrade Ace Magashule.
2. The NDC found Comrade Ace Magashule guilty of contravening Rules 25.17.12, 25.17.3, 12.1 and 12.2.20 of the ANC Constitution.
3. After a guilty verdict by the NDC, Comrade Ace Magashule was allowed to show cause why he should not be expelled from the ANC. Upon the lapse of seven (7) days, the NDC had not received any representations to that effect.
4. Consequently, the NDC confirmed the expulsion of comrade Ace Magashule from the ANC as a final sanction.
5. This statement is made public as provided for in paragraph 64 of Appendix 3 of the ANC Constitution.

SA: ANC Expels Former Secretary-General Ace Magashule

Journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono has criticised South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) party for suggesting that Zimbabwe’s economic challenges were caused by sanctions imposed by western countries.
The ANC’s newly elected Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula on Monday said their position on Zimbabwe remained that they do not support regime change.
Addressing the media at Nasrec in Johannesburg soon after he was confirmed ANC secretary-general, Mbalula said:

We don’t subscribe to the idea of regime change in Zimbabwe. We need to campaign very hard to get things right because Zimbabweans are coming to our country in their numbers because something is not right in their own country.
Once that country becomes what it was, there will be no Zimbabwean here. So, the British and the Americans must think very hard about what they have done.
They must uplift the sanctions so that Zimbabwe can grow as an economy and not use sanctions to deepen the pain and impoverishment of Zimbabweans. The British know what they agreed to in Lancaster.
They must come to the party and invest in the compensation of Zimbabweans in the programme of land reform distribution.

Responding to Mbalula’s remarks, Chin’ono said the ANC has no understanding of what is wrong in Zimbabwe. Chin’ono posted on Facebook:

It is a pity that your ruling party has no understanding of what is wrong in Zimbabwe.
If the ANC continues with this attitude of supporting ZANU PF’s Corrupt Rule, be prepared for more Zimbabweans coming your way. The ANC has chosen propaganda over facts!
Fikile Mbalula has effectively said that the ANC will support rigged elections because he says they don’t want to see change in Zimbabwe.
That will also mean more illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe looking for a better future.
I am sure you now see what we have told you that your Government is the problem.

Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, who leads the Citizens Coalition for Change congratulated President Cyril Ramaphosa for being re-elected ANC president. He tweeted:

Meanwhile, ZANU PF director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi expressed delight over the development across the Limpopo River. He said:

Don’t forget that H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa has been to Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing St over removal sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Hopewell Chin’ono Says ANC "Has No Understanding Of What Is Wrong In Zim"

The newly-elected secretary-general of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, has said they will intensify assisting Zimbabwe to recover from decades of economic problems.
Addressing journalists in Joburg in his briefing in his new capacity as ANC secretary-general, Mbalula said:

We must be very much concerned about what is happening in Zimbabwe, and what role we need to play. We do not subscribe to the idea of regime change in Zimbabwe.
We need to campaign very hard to get things right because Zimbabweans are coming to our country in their numbers.
Something is not right in their own country (and) we must support them. Once that country becomes what it was, there will be no Zimbabwean here.
So, the British must think very hard about what they have done, and the Americans. They must uplift the sanctions so that Zimbabwe can grow.

Mbalula urged the British government to honour a promise it reportedly made to Zimbabwe to compensate white farmers whose land was expropriated for redistribution to landless black about two decades ago. He said:

The British know what they agreed on in Lancaster. They must come to the party, and invest in the compensation of Zimbabwe in the programme of land redistribution. 
The 40 or something billion pounds they promised Mugabe and ZANU PF, they must come to the party and not use the land reform programme of ZANU PF as a scapegoat and run away.
They must come to the party, and Zimbabwe will be a better country. Zimbabweans never (used to) come into this country, which was the bread basket of the African continent. It was an economy that was alive, people were working in Zimbabwe.
Now you have Zimbabweans crossing (into South Africa), facing life and death … coming into our country because there is no life. Life is here in South Africa and that has burdened our economy.
As the ANC we will not agree in ideological terms, that Zimbabwe must be turned into a client State, next to us. So, we need to get that right.
We need to campaign for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara, and the Cuban people.

Newly-elected ANC Secretary-general Speaks On Relations With ZANU PF

South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa has been re-elected as the ANC’s 15th President.
Ramaphosa garnered 2 476, while the other contender and presidential hopeful former Treasurer-General and Health Minister Zweli Mkhize came in second place with 1 897 votes.
The final results were released on Monday, 19 December 2022.
Ramaphosa is the second leader of the ANC who will serve two terms following his predecessor Jacob Zuma who also served the liberation movement twice.
Gauteng Premier and MEC for Human Settlements Paul Mashatile has been elected as the ANC’s new deputy president replacing David Mabuza.
Mashatile won by 2 178 votes beating his opponents Ronald Lamola who received 315 votes and Oscar Mabuyane who received 1 858 votes.

SA: Cyril Ramaphosa Returns As ANC Leader For The Second Term

A senior African National Congress (ANC) official has said the South African government cannot guarantee the safety of foreign nationals anymore.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe (pictured) made the remarks last week alleging that undocumented foreign nationals were to blame for various crimes in SA.
Mabe was addressing ANC members who were picketing at a police station in protest over increased crime allegedly committed by foreign nationals illegally residing in the country.
The chairperson of the Zimbabwe Community in SA, Ngqabutho Mabhena criticised Mabe for his utterances saying such comments may incite xenophobic attacks. He said:

The constitution of South Africa guarantees the safety of any foreigner in the country and Mabe’s statement is just unfortunate.
The constitution is very clear on how those who are not documented should be treated.
As a spokesperson of the ruling party, Mabe should have realised the impact of his utterances although we believe that he said this out of excitement and not from the ANC point of view.

On 6 April this year, a Zimbabwean, Elvis Nyathi was brutally assaulted and set on fire by a mob in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg for not having a passport.
Critics say the ANC’s tough rhetoric against illegal immigrants, particularly Zimbabweans, has to do with the party’s election campaign following the rise of far-right fringe political parties and movements.

SA Cannot Guarantee The Safety Of Foreign Nationals Anymore - ANC

South Africa’s ruling ANC party Deputy Secretary General, Jessie Duarte, passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Duarte had been battling cancer for some time and had been on medical leave since November 2021.
She will be buried on Sunday afternoon in Johannesburg according to Muslim rites.
In a statement, ANC National Spokesperson, Pule Mabe described Duarte as the matriarch and pillar of her family. He said:

The ANC expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Duarte, Dangor, and Whitley extended families, loved ones, and friends.
She was both a tower of strength to the organisation as well as a matriarch and pillar of her family.
The passing of Comrade Jessie is a great loss, not only to the family but to the democratic movement and the country as a whole.
As a committed internationalist and former diplomat, not only will she be mourned by South Africa, but by colleagues and comrades on the African continent and in the international progressive movement.

SA: ANC Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte Dies

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the cause of a power outage at the ANC gala dinner held at the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort on Friday night.
Police Minister Bheki Cele confirmed that there was an interference with the electricity system at the Polokwane venue.
Just as President Cyril Ramaphosa was wrapping up his speech, the lights went off leaving ministers and business leaders who had paid hundreds of thousands of Rands to dine with ANC leaders embarrassed.
Responding to questions from the media, ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile ruled out load shedding, saying it could be a fault. He said:

Somebody did interfere with the plug that only deals with the lights in the hall.
The whole place had lights, even the speakers. This means that the plugs themselves were working.

Comrade Jolidee cut his political teeth at the tender age of 13 while growing up in Dube, Soweto.

He served as the Regional Secretary of the ANC Youth League and was later elected Regional Chairperson in the Greater Johannesburg Region. Cde Jolidee has since served in the ANC Joburg Regional Executive Committee to date. 
He became the Regional Head of the Department of Information and Publicity and the Regional Spokesperson for the period of about eight years until he was appointed to the City of Joburg as the MMC of Finance by the late Executive Mayor Cllr. Moloantoa Geoff Makhubo.

ANC Mourns Joburg Executive Mayor, Jolidee Matongo | FULL TEXT

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa received a hostile reception from angry residents of Soweto’s Nomzamo township on Saturday.
Ramaphosa and African National Congress (ANC) officials were in Soweto on the local government elections campaign trail where residents raised the issue of the unavailability of electricity.
While Ramaphosa was inside a home speaking to residents, outside Phangelani Msinyana said:

The ANC can keep its electricity, we don’t want it anymore. Where was the ANC in the past three years when we didn’t have electricity?
All of these police officers that are here, where were they when members of the community were getting killed? Where were they? They must f*** off man!
They helped us a long time ago. They helped our mothers who were being beaten by the apartheid police.
Today you come here because you want our votes. We are not going to vote for you.

Another resident, Ntombi Meji, said she was surprised by Ramaphosa’s visit. She said:

Why did he surprise us? We are not happy at all. We want electricity, we cannot do anything without electricity.
Our children study under candlelight and they cannot watch TV.

Responding to the community, Ramaphosa said electricity would be “priority number one” as a result of his visit. He said:

We told Eskom to solve the electricity issue urgently. Next week they will send a contractor.
I want them to get on it next Tuesday. I told them that I want a report that will be sent to the premier and the mayor.
Do you promise that you will look after the electricity? Please do not lose hope, I will personally supervise that they solve this issue.

Ramaphosa said he would also ask the police to investigate complaints about gunmen roaming the streets. He added:

If you do not vote, all of the issues you have raised will not be addressed because another party will be in charge and they will not address your concerns.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said the community’s concerns were valid. He said it was clear electricity was the biggest issue for Nomzamo voters, and there were plans to move responsibility for resolving the problem from Eskom to City Power.

Soweto Residents With No Electricity Give Ramaphosa A Hostile Reception

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), and the main opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA) have voiced their support for Kaizer Chiefs Football Club ahead of the club’s maiden CAF Champions League final appearance.
Amakhosi take on Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, which is managed by South African national, Pitso Mosimane, at the Stade Mohamed V, in Casablanca, Morocco, on Saturday night (tonight).
In a statement today, ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe called on Chiefs to “fight like true soldiers” and “heal the wounds of the last few days”, a reference to the looting and civil unrest that claimed the lives of over 200 people. Said Mabe:
<blockquote>The African National Congress (ANC) wishes one of South Africa’s glamour teams. Kaizer Chiefs, well, as they face Egyptian giants, Al Ahly in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League Final in Morocco tonight.

ANC, DA Rally Behind Kaizer Chiefs Ahead Of Champions League Final

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC), has postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as top officials were set to move to KwaZulu-Natal to manage the deteriorating political situation in Nkandla, former president Jacob Zuma’s residence.
Zuma’s supporters were threatening violence if he was arrested and sent to jail as ordered by the Constitutional Court.
In a statement on Friday, the ANC said national leaders would work with provincial leaders to manage the situation in Nkandla. It said:
<blockquote>The meeting of the National Executive Committee scheduled for Saturday, 3 – Monday, 5 July 2021, has been postponed.
In arriving at this decision, the National Officials were mindful of the situation developing in KwaZulu-Natal and the need for the ANC to give clear and principled leadership to ensure the maintenance of the rule of law and to avoid any violence, injury, or loss of life.
NEC members will be deployed to KZN and will work with the provincial leadership in this regard.
The date for the NEC meeting will be communicated in due course.</blockquote>
The Concourt sentenced Zuma to 15 months imprisonment for contempt of court on Tuesday.
This came after the former president defied a Concourt that ordered him to appear before the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture, testify and ordered did not have a right to remain silent.
Earlier this week, KZN ANC chairperson and KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala, warned that the sentencing of Zuma would have far-reaching consequences for South Africa.

ANC Calls Off NEC Meeting In Bid To Manage Zuma Ruling Fallout

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), has expressed concern over the ongoing violence in eSwatini where the government has resorted to brute force against pro-democracy protestors.
In a statement Wednesday, ANC International Relations Sub-Committee chairperson, Lindiwe Zulu called on SADC to intervene before the situation in the tiny kingdom escalates beyond control. Said, Zulu:
<blockquote>The African National Congress is deeply concerned about the strikes, riots and the growing instability in eSwatini, especially over the last few days.
The ANC reiterates its call for good governance and democracy in eSwatini. We call on the eSwatini government to work towards the normalisation of the political environment by unbanning opposition political and other parties, releasing political activists and engaging in meaningful dialogue with opposition parties, its citizens and trade unions to find a collective solution to the socio-economic circumstances in the country.
The use of security forces to quell political dissent and the failure to address legitimate civilian concerns complicates the conflict and adds fuel to the fire. Economic and political stability is further compromised.
We call on the government to heed this urgent call by moving away from autocracy, strong-handed crisis management and brutal repression of legitimate civilian concerns. We further call on SADC to be seized with this matter before it escalates beyond control.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the government of Eswatini has described the ongoing protests as criminal. Acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku has assured citizens of Eswatini and the international community that the situation will be returned to normal.

ANC Warns King Mswati Over Violent Crackdown On Protestors

A senior African National Congress (ANC) official, Carl Niehaus, has called on the party’s supporters to rally behind former president Jacob Zuma who was convicted on contempt of court charges by the country’s constitutional court Tuesday and sentenced to 15 months imprisonment.
In a video recording posted on his Twitter account, Niehaus castigated the ruling, calling it “outrageous, and fundamentally unacceptable”.

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has mourned Kwaito star <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mojalefa_Mjokes_Matsane">Mojalefa Matsane</a> popularly known as Mjokes.
ANC said the Kwaito star died in the early hours of Sunday 23 May 2021 following a tragic car accident. We present below a statement issued by ANC on the passing of the Kwaito star.
<blockquote>ANC STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF KWAITO STAR MOJALEFA ‘MJOKES’ MATSANE
The African National Congress is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of renowned Kwaito Music star Mojalefa Matsane. Mjokes, as he was affectionately known in the music industry, was a member of the popular music group, Trompies, and a co-director of Kalawa Jazmee Records. He passed away in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 23 May 2021, following a tragic car accident.
Mjokes’s passing is a profound loss to the entire nation as he was one of the pathfinders of post-apartheid cultural expression. He was an activist in his own right and a talented musician with so much to give and live for. We call upon young South Africans to draw inspiration from the positive contribution that Mjokes made to society. The vibrant and positive spirit illustrated by his work is an example of how young people could and should use their diverse skills and abilities to contribute to the development of a better South Africa.
We express our sincere condolences to Matsana’s family, friends, colleagues and fans. May they find solace in knowing that their loss is the nation’s loss.</blockquote>

ANC Mourns Kwaito Star Mojalefa Mjokes Matsane

The former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma has accused the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/watch-live-zuma-appears-before-zondo-commission/">country’s Parliament of destroying unity and nation-building.</a>
Zuma made the remarks while addressing the Umrabulo Roundtable hosted by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/African_National_Congress">African National Congress (ANC)</a>  Political school.

The leader of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Sello Malema has said the conspiracy theories on COVID-19 vaccines which are being developed are baseless.
Malema also said if the “white people” wanted to kill Africans, the African continent would be without people since almost everything we consume is made in Western states.
He said African states are not developing their own COVID-19 vaccines giving room to conspiracy theories including one which says the vaccine is the mark of the beast “666.”
He also accused South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa of pretending to be taking action against the coronavirus.
Julius Malema said it is known that the virus came with white people yet South Africa is closing land borders when there is no fence to deter fellow Africans including Lesotho to come in.
The former ANC youth leader added that the coronavirus flood gates are still open as “white people” still have access into South Africa.
Malema also castigated the “South Africa First” movement which advocates for banning other Africans from getting into South Africa for employment saying Africa was one.

Julius Malema Speaks On COVID-19 Vaccine, 666

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) senior officials are not happy with ZANU PF over what they consider to be “threats and blackmail” by Zimbabwe’s ruling party.
This comes after ZANU PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi threatened to drop a bombshell and expose ANC’s alleged sinister agenda which necessitated its two visits to Harare last year.
Responding to Mugwadi’s threats, ANC national chairman Gwede Mantashe said he doesn’t “like” ZANU PF’s antics and challenged the former liberation movement to “spill the beans”. Mantashe tweeted:
<blockquote>You can’t always have a neighbour that is always blackmailing you.
This relationship with Zimbabwe (Zanu PF) is always filled with threats and blackmail.
I don’t like that. If Zanu PF wants to spill the beans on our meeting with them, they must.
I am eager to hear what they want to spill.</blockquote>
South Africa’s outspoken Finance minister Tito Mboweni also tweeted, saying he wished President Cyril Ramaphosa gave him permission to deal with “that turncoat” Tafadzwa Mugwadi. Added Mboweni:
<blockquote>In fact, ANC chairperson, @GwedeMantashe1 should have said that the relationship is abusive! This must be stopped! It must end!</blockquote>
Meanwhile, in a statement on Sunday, Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said the party would take disciplinary action against Mugwadi over his “mischievous and unpatriotic” remarks.
