CAPS United legend, Alois Bunjira, has been criticised for complaining about a tackle on his son, Junior, during the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between DeMbare and CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Bunjira described the tackle by Dynamos midfielder Shadreck Nyahwa as “brutal” and believed it warranted a “straight red card” from the referee.
Taking to Facebook, Bunjira, who also works as a fitness coach, questioned the referee’s competence, wondering why Nyahwa was not sent off for the “two-footed tackle from behind” that left bruises on Junior.
In response to these comments, football analyst Solomon Manganyi emphasised that while no player should be injured, tackling is an inherent part of the game.
Manganyi suggested that Bunjira should condemn all unfair tackles on the pitch, not only when they affect his son considering his aspirations to become the president of ZIFA. Wrote Manganyi:

I noticed an unfortunate comment from former CAPS United forward Alois Bunjira GQ about the tackle by Nyahwa on his son.
Emotions aside, this is a game of football and injuries happening to any other player are a setback to that particular player so he should look at all players not just be biased towards his son.
He should call out all tackles not those only directed at his son. If he thinks his son is special and doesn’t need any contact he must take him away from playing football because we have seen many players having their legs broken and their fathers never posted threatening words to the other player.
No player deserves to be injured not just your son and some injuries are accidents not that there will be an intention to do that. Leave the match officials to do their job and not influence how they must officiate.

Manganyi said Bunjira is probably not fit to be the president of ZIFA as this incident shows he is biased. He said:

You once talked about contesting for the Zimbabwe Football Association presidency but with what you wrote there you may not qualify because you have shown that you are conflicted towards where your attachment is when in actual fact you are supposed to understand the ups and downs of playing football as a former footballer yourself. That was uncalled for from people we look up to for the development of our football.

So, today I have had phone calls and text messages, from people inquiring about Junior Bunjira’s fitness after that brutal 2 footed tackle from behind by Shadreck Nyahwa. Junior has a bruised swollen ankle and is in pain. The CAPS United doctors are monitoring the injury.
I am not sure how and why Nyahwa didn’t get a straight red card and expulsion after that cruel bone-crashing tackle from behind. That is a straight red offence.
I don’t know if I should say “Fortunately ” because there was nothing fortunate about that tackle…but fortunately, the tackle didn’t break Junior’s legs.
My intestines moved in horror when I saw that cruel tackle. I have to be honest, that I don’t know what I would do if he had broken Junior’s leg.
But all I know is that I would have possibly jumped onto the pitch to retaliate..🤣🤣🤣🤣. Hapana sportsmanship yakadaro when one player is intentionally breaking someone else’s legs.
Injuries anowanikwa, and that is football. I played football and I know all about that. But when someone is intentionally trying to break another player’s leg, it ceases to be sportsmanship and just a game of football. I don’t think I would be a sportsman if he had broken the kid’s legs
I think referees should be on the lookout for evil tackles like that on the field and footballers with that kind of action should expelled.
That is not football. Talent should be protected and brutals weeded out. Not because Junior is my son. BUT I am speaking for all victims of such brutality…as I wish Junior a speedy recovery. I hope Nyahwa apologised.

ZIFA Presidential Aspirant Criticised For "Moaning" Over Tackle On His Son

Former Warriors midfielder, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alois_Bunjira/">Alois Bunjira</a>, has urged Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to reconsider their retirement from international football now that the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has new management. 
His remarks came after the Federation of International Football (FIFA) had lifted the suspension on Zimbabwe and appointed a four-member normalisation committee to take over the day-to-day running of ZIFA until June 2024. The committee is composed of chairperson Lincon Mutasa, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, Rosemary Mugadza, and Nyasha Sanyamandu. Mutasa, a former Dynamos chairman, Mugadza, a former Mighty Warriors coach, Ndebele, a former Highlanders defender, and Sanyamandwe, a member of the British Sports Lawyers Association and a legal practitioner, were selected to serve on the committee. The suspension of ZIFA has been in effect since Monday 10 July 2022.
In a Facebook post seen by Pindula News, Bunjira expressed his belief that the tried and tested duo of Musona and Billiat would play a critical role in Zimbabwe’s quest to qualify for the World Cup. With limited time for preparation, he believes it is necessary to rely on established players to increase the team’s chances of success. He said:

Now that international football is back, we have a normalisation committee to steer football forward, after the dark days of the past years, and Zimbabwe being placed in a fair World Cup group C, I think it is a perfect platform for Captain Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat to come out of their forced retirement and carry the torch with the warriors for one last push, while we sort out our development structures, to groom their future replacements.
We all know why Musona and Billiat retired from the Warriors. All that is sorted now. The culprits are gone. Between now and the World Cup qualifiers, we don’t have time for experiments. I believe we now have a committee that will put in place our junior national teams where younger players are developed and groomed for the Warriors. We also have the CHAN and COSSFA tournaments where experiments and grooming is done. The Warriors is a product and window of what has been developed.

While he stated that he was retiring to allow other players a chance to represent Zimbabwe, there were rumours that he quit over the manner the team was being governed.
Knowledge Musona, known as “The Smiling Assassin,” <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/05/19/knowledge-musona-retires-from-international-football/">announced his retirement from international football</a> on Thursday, 19 May 2022. The Saudi Arabia-based striker stated that he is quitting the Warriors to concentrate on his club career and to allow other players a chance to represent Zimbabwe.

Bunjira: It's Time For Musona And Billiat To Come Out Of Forced Retirement

Former Warriors midfielder, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alois_Bunjira">Alois Bunjira</a>, has said Zimbabwean female boxer Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire deserved better treatment from Zimbabweans, especially businesswomen.
Chiwandire is still soul-searching following her defeat by Mexican Yamileth Mercado in a World Boxing Council super-bantamweight title showdown last weekend.
Chiwandire won the crown against Catherine Phiri of Zambia on February 26, 2023, at the Lusaka Government Complex. 
She defended the title and won against challenger Zulina Munoz of Mexico last year before she travelled to Mexico to fight Yamileth Mercado.
Chiwandire is demanding a rematch.
Bunjira who is aspiring to be the president of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) says Chiwandire deserved better treatment, especially from women who always talk about equal opportunities. In a Facebook post seen by Pindula News, Bunjira said:

Winning a World Crown is actually a marketing magnate. But with most companies having female marketing directors and executives, not even one came forward to use her for any marketing material. What a lost opportunity! 
Then came the time she was supposed to defend her Silver World Title in Harare. The fight was postponed several times due to a lack of funding. She was on the verge of being stripped of the title. No prominent top business corporates led by women, came forward to assist and bask in the glory …until the government chipped in to save the day, on the 11th hour. She won the fight at HICC. After the fight, all I saw were men in the boxing ring, led by honourable Tino Machakaire, celebrating and pledging incentives for Kuda. The Arena was jam-packed with men and very few women supporting Kuda during the fight.
After defending her silver crown she got the shot to challenge for the Gold World title, in Mexico. Again, she struggled to raise money to fund her trip to Mexico. The trip was almost cancelled and the chance taken away. She finally made it, God knows how, and only arrived in Mexico, a few hours before the title fight. Imagine a transatlantic journey, across 4 different time zones, and arriving a few hours from the fight, fatigue, jet lag and all. But she still gave a good account of herself and lost narrowly on a points decision. How would she have fared if she had trained well, travelled well, arrived a few days before the fight, acclimatized and rested???
After such a gallant fight in Mexico, Kuda Chiwandire arrives quietly back into the country, like nothing ever happened. Were we not supposed to celebrate this woman? Were we not supposed to give her a hero’s welcome at the airport, LIVE on ZTV? Where are the women in all this? Isn’t the ZTV CEO a woman by the way?

Kudakwashe "Take Money" Chiwandire Deserved Better Treatment - Bunjira

Former Warriors star Alois Bunjira has defended Sakunda Holdings’ multi-million dollar sponsorship deal for Zimbabwe’s two largest football clubs Dynamos and Highlanders following criticism from some quarters.
On Tuesday petroleum tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei committed US$5.3 million to Zimbabwe’s two largest football clubs, Dynamos and Highlanders.
Tagwirei, cited in multiple investigations as “corrupt” and also under individual United States and British sanctions, made the pledge through his Sakunda Holdings.
Prominent journalist Hopewell Chon’ono <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/09/16/kuda-tagwirei-takes-zimbabweans-for-idiots-chinono/">criticised Tagwireis’s gesture, saying he (Tagwirei) made the donations in a bid to cleanse his image as well as that of his “criminal syndicate”.</a>
But Bunjira sees nothing wrong with Tagwirei’s largesse towards the football clubs and on the contrary, sees it as a good thing.
He argued that it was wrong to “politicise everything”, saying the donation gives the two clubs an opportunity to turn professional. Wrote Bunjira:

'Don't Politicise Everything', Bunjira Responds To Chin'ono Criticism Of Sakunda's Football Sponsorship Deal

Controversial preacher Passion Java has sensationally claimed that his father co-owned former Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Darryn Tornadoes and was the one, together with Wiesław Grabowski, who discovered some of the best footballers of yesteryear.
Java insinuated that his father was partly responsible for the nurturing of the likes of Norman Mapeza, Alois Bunjira, Lloyd Chitembwe and Stewart Murisa.
The eccentric self-styled prophet made the stunning claims on the ZTN show, The Couch. Java said:

However, Soccer24 has cast doubt on Java’s astonishing claims. The publication said it is widely known that Grabowski led the project and is usually credited for unearthing these stars.
Further, Darryn T was formed after a struggling former top-flight club State House Tornadoes merged with Darryn Textiles, a company-owned side based in Chitungwiza.
That was when the likes of Mapeza, Chitembwe, Bunjira, Edelbert Dinha, Gift Muzadzi, and 1996 Soccer Star of the Year Stewart Murisa, all based in Chitungwiza, were scouted and placed under development at the club’s junior development teams.

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic has had a rethink on his decision to overlook players who failed to take part in Zimbabwe’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Croat made headlines after he said he had blue-ticked and blocked the European-based stars on WhatsApp for ignoring his international call-ups and that the players will not be considered for the AFCON finals next year.
Logarusic is now singing a different tune, saying he will not deny anyone a chance but carefully assess the players to ascertain on whose side they are. He said on ZIFA’ s Twitter handle:

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson and former Everton left-back Brendan Galloway are among the stars that have expressed interest to be part of the Warriors’ set-up for the AFCON finals.
Galloway was called up to the Warriors’ squad for the 2017 AFCON finals but did not show up, choosing to be part of the England Under-21 squad that was competing in the Euro Under-21 qualifiers.

The Croat revealed that he will give a chance to some fringe players in tonight’s dead rubber against Zambia. He added:

However, former Warriors midfielder Alois Bunjira is against Logarusic’s move to shut the door on some players.

Logarusic Shuts Door On 'Unpatriotic' Warriors

Former Warriors star, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Alois_Bunjira">Alois Bunjira</a>, has amplified the call for foreign-based footballers eligible to play for Zimbabwe to “come home” with Arsenal forward <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Reiss_Nelson">Reiss Nelson</a> being his latest target.
The former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Caps_United_Football_Club">CAPS United</a> and Mamelodi Sundowns striker told Pindula News that it has always been his ambition and passion “to see every good footballer with a Zimbabwean connection being given a fair chance to represent the country, and thereby having the best national team possible for Zimbabwe.”
The<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)"> ZIFA</a> presidential aspirant also said both local and foreign-based players deserve a fair chance adding that the players in Diaspora “are still very much Zimbabwean and we should do a lot more to try and integrate them into our system. It is all good for Zimbabwe football and sports tourism.”
Bunjira confirmed that he is still “very much interested in the ZIFA post.” Speaking on what he intends to do to transform national football, the football analyst said:
<blockquote>There is so much that can be done for Zimbabwe football locally and internationally that is not being done currently and Zimbabwe football is staying stuck or moving backwards. The only way to effect the positive changes and make sure our football grows is by getting in and effect the changes from inside. We have so much potential to be African powerhouse and for our football to be a big industry in the country, but we are not pressing the correct buttons. We need to change things and move football forward Football should be a big industry of glitz and glamour. We need to get that.
In 5 years after my election, there will be rapid change. The aim is to have football retain its glamour and have proper professional structures that encourages parents to believe their children can have a future and life in football. We can have football as big as in South Africa in 5 to 10 years time.</blockquote>
He added that every Zimbabwean has a role to play in encouraging the players who are eligible to play for Zimbabwe to “come home.” He said:
<blockquote>Locally, Zimbabweans should embrace the young footballers in Diaspora and not feel threatened. After all, they are our real cousins and relatives. I am not sure why Zimbabwe became polarised between local and Diaspora. It actually feels like a war. It should not be like that. My son is in England right now. That doesn’t mean he is now less Zimbabwean. We should be united as Zimbabweans and even sharing ideas. I think locally we need to up our game to rise to the same development level as know Diaspora and be secure.
The diaspora community should not throw away their roots. They should cultivate the love for Zimbabwe and culture into their children as they are growing up. They should encourage them to love and want to represent Zimbabwe. It is not all about money, like many believe. Playing for one’s country is the greatest honour. Money is made at club level</blockquote>
Bunjira said Reiss is just a continuation of the calls he and other stakeholders have been making since years back. He narrated:
<blockquote>There was a time we made so much noise about Galloway. We did the same with <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bradley_Pritchard">Bradley Pritchard</a>. I am sure you missed the time we made the call for <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Macauley_Bonne">Bonne</a> to get his papers. I have been in touch directly with (Ipswich Town midfielder) Tristan Ryan Nydam and his father. I spoke to (Bournemouth defender) Jordan Zemura directly before he got here. I spoke to his mum. I speak to a lot of parents with Zimbabwean young footballers in the diaspora. I know young Zimbabwean boys in Europe, America and Aussie. I have travelled around the country watching junior tournaments. It is a matter of time chete before everything comes together. It is all about passion for the game and wanting to see Zimbabwe succeed. So yeah…it is not just about Reiss. It is only that, for now, Reiss ndiye arikupisa. We still need young boys like Tivonge Rushesha and Young Mutatu in the USA. We are rich in talent.
My message to them is that the second republic in football is coming soon and let us come together and make Zimbabwe great again. They don’t have to wait and see a great Zimbabwe first. Bunjira added that although hosting the World Cup is out of the equation, foreis now, Zimbabwe can qualify for the World Cup before 2030.

Come Home: ZIFA Presidential Aspirant Bunjira Encourages Foreign-Based Players

ZIFA President hopeful, legendary Zimbabwean footballer Alois Bunjira has made sensational claims that Kaizer Chiefs player Khama Billiat must go back to his former team Mamelodi Sundowns, The Herald reports.
This came after Khama recently had a bad season at Amakhosi which finished as a runner up to Billiat’s former team Sundowns.
Writing on social media Bunjira said:

After all has been said and done, I believe Khama Billiat should go back to Mamelodi Sundowns,” Bunjira wrote on social media. Pitso (Mosimane) loves Khama, he has publicly said it many times. He shows it. Sundowns play the kind of football that Khama fits into very well.
In Peter Ndlovu he had a big brother who saw it all and was guiding him, Peter never hid his brotherly love for Khama. For Khama to have such a great man like Peter as a fellow countryman at the club can only give a player that sense security and belonging.

Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari has said the football fraternity must rally behind former warriors winger Alois Bunjira who has announced his decision to run for ZIFA presidency in 2022, the Daily News reports. Speaking to South African Sports reporter Robert Marawa, Mwaruwari said:

<div>Bunjira is running for presidency, I think we need to support him. Let’s hope he’s ready, I spoke to him two weeks ago and I said I will be there for you and I will support you.</div>

<div>He (Bunjira) asked me if I’m still going to run and I said I’m still preparing myself so go ahead and do it. We will support you and all the footballers if they see you, they will support you. Let’s hope he will (be able to) change football in Zimbabwe.</div>

<div>Bunjira initially wanted to run for the presidency in 2018 but he could not meet the 40 year age ceiling started in the bylaws. UK based administrator Ellen Chiwenga has hinted that she will throw her head in the game in 2022 as well.</div>

Bunjira The Right Man For The Job - Mwaruwari Supports Bunjira's ZIFA Presidential Bid

Alois Bunjira has declared his interest to be the next ZIFA president, The Herald reports. Bunjira who is the second aspirant after Ellen Chiwenga, announced his decision on Facebook in a post that reads;

Deep down I have always believed I have a lot to offer to Zimbabwe football. I may as well take it up and contest. Yes, I am up for it 2022.
Football, indeed, needs to be sorted out guys. With the support of everyone involved, Zimbabwe football can rise again, yes ,manifesto is coming soon. Lets go for it

Another football legend Benjani Mwaruwaru has also been touted as a possible challenger for the post, current ZIFA president Felton Kamambo has not yet announced his candidature.

Alois Bunjira Formally Makes His Intentions To Be The Next ZIFA President Known

Former Warriors defender and coach, Norman Mapeza has said that one of the sungura musicians, Alick Macheso’s backing vocalists could have scaled to greater heights as a footballer had he not decided to ditch the sport.
Mapeza said that his former teammate, Elton Muropa was one of the best and players in their team. He said:
<blockquote>I know Elton (Muropa) from our days at Darryn T. We grew up together from the juniors and graduated into the first team together.
He was a very good player. He was one of the best.
Of course, I cannot tell where he would have ended up had he not quit football, but I maintain he was not bad.</blockquote>
Muropa who played as a full right-back was also in the same team with Lloyd Chitembwe, Stewart “Shutto” Murisa, Musareka Jenitala, Alois Bunjira and Muzadzi, who all have respect for him.
He revealed to the Herald that he was simultaneously playing football and doing backing vocals for Staben Mawire and later Paul Mpofu until Cephas Mashakada acknowledged his vocal prowess.
Muropa then joined Alick Macheso who was preparing to launch his album “Zvakanaka Zvakadaro” in 2001.

Former Zimbabwe international player Alois Bunjira has warned Zifa that they should not loose sight on developmental issues, just because they hosted Fifa president Gianni Infantino. Bunjira advised the association to focus on the development of junior teams such as the under-17 and the under-20. The Zimbabwe Under-20 national team failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Zambia.
Writing on his facebook page, Bunjira said:
<blockquote>While we are happy to have hosted the (Fifa) president in our own country and we are happy with the push for (Caf president Issa) Hayatou to be voted out of office, (but) we should not lose focus of what is happening here at home. We still don’t have an Under-17 and Under-20 national teams. It breaks my heart to watch South Africa and Zambia taking part in the Caf Under-20 Championships underway in Zambia, while we are sitting here wondering when we last participated in the Under-17 or Under-20 Championships. And we have the nerve to declare that we are a better footballing nation than SA and Zambia. Do we even match them for passion?
We really need to change our mentality and start working really hard for the development of the game here…minus misplaced pride. We may have been better sometime back (debatable), but certainly not now…</blockquote>
