President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has promoted 22 officers from the Air Force of Zimbabwe to higher ranks. Six officers were promoted from wing commander to group captain, while 16 officers were promoted from squadron leader to group captain. The promotions were made in accordance with the Defence Act, which grants the President the authority to promote officers on the recommendation of the Minister of Defence and the Commander of the Defence Forces. The newly promoted officers were commended for their merit, distinguished service, hard work, patriotism, and loyalty.
Air Marshal Elson Moyo, the Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, expressed his gratitude to President Mnangagwa for approving the promotions. He emphasized that the promotions were not mere decorations, but were based on various factors. The officers who received promotions will be assigned to key positions at institutions such as the Zimbabwe Staff College and the Zimbabwe Defence University, where they will assume higher responsibilities. Speaking during the conferment ceremony, Moyo said:

The AFZ is a professional organisation which does considerations before upgrading its members. These newly promoted officers are well deserving. Your promotion came as a result of a number of considerations among which are merit, distinguished service, consistent dutifulness, hard work, patriotism and loyalty.
You are therefore reminded that the promotion to a higher rank is a sign of goodwill, trust and confidence that the President and command element have accorded you. In regard to this, you are henceforth encouraged to uphold your exemplary leadership principles, professionalism and military expertise that you have acquired over your entire service for the betterment of Zimbabwe.

Speaking at the same event, Group Captain Joyce Maeresera, who will serve as the deputy commandant at the staff college, pledged to work diligently to protect Zimbabwe’s airspace. Air Vice Marshal Jacob Nzvede, the Chief of Staff Supporting Services, urged the newly promoted officers to meet the expected standards and fulfil their increased responsibilities.
The ceremony coincided with a national tree-planting initiative led by Air Marshal Moyo, who stressed the importance of taking action to combat environmental degradation. The Air Force of Zimbabwe aims to contribute to efforts to create a greener environment and combat global warming through collective action.

President Mnangagwa Has Promoted 22 Air Force Officers

Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Air Marshal Elson Moyo has reportedly travelled to Nigeria to ask his counterpart for technical assistance, including in the operation and maintenance of F7 and Mi-35 aircraft.
According to a report by <a href="https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/aerospace-aerospace/zimbabwe-air-force-asks-nigeria-for-technical-assistance/">Defence Web</a>, citing the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Moyo visited NAF Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, at NAF Headquarters in late March.
Moyo is reported to have said he would like to pursue technical assistance in the areas of research and development, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology (drones) and the operation and maintenance of F7 and Mi-35 aircraft.
He said areas for collaboration are of common interest to Zimbabwe and Nigeria as their respective air forces operate some similar aircraft (including F7s and Mi-35s).
Moyo noted that the Nigerian Air Force has within a short time recorded “remarkable feats” in its transformation effort to develop indigenous capacity.
He said the Air Force of Zimbabwe’s ability to acquire basic aircraft parts and other equipment was being hampered by sanctions imposed on the country by Western powers.
Zimbabwe’s Air Chief commended the NAF for its support in the past, including training given to the first batch of Zimbabwe pilots in the 1980s.
Amao said that the NAF is ready to forge a mutually beneficial partnership with the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

Air Force Of Zimbabwe Asks Nigeria For Technical Assistance

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent messages of condolence to the Munyanduki and Manyenga families following the death of two Air Force of Zimbabwe pilots – Group Captain Ben Munyanduki and Wing Commander Daniel Manyenga – in an aircraft crash.
The duo died when an Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) SF260 trainer aircraft, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/afz-trainer-aircraft-crashes-in-gweru-kills-2-pilots/">crashed in the Mlezu College general area near Gweru, killing the two pilots onboard.</a>
The aircraft was on a routine training sortie when it hit a power line and crashed. In a statement seen by Pindula News, President Mnangagwa said the deceased were among the most experienced cadres in the Airforce of Zimbabwe. Reads the statement:

President Mnangagwa Mourns 2 Air Force Of Zimbabwe Pilots Who Died In Aircraft Crash

The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has finished building a house for the Fenyere family in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Goromonzi">Goromonzi</a> to compensate them after an <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/23/watch-army-helicopter-crashes-on-a-house-near-ruwa-kills-all-onboard-locals/">air crash</a> <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/04/23/watch-army-helicopter-crashes-on-a-house-near-ruwa-kills-all-onboard-locals/">involving an AB 412 Helicopter</a> claimed the lives of one of their twin children, aircrew and destroyed the house.
The other twin and the mother were hospitalised with life-threatening burns.
Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Oppah_Muchinguri">Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri</a>, accompanied by the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe Air Marshal <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Elson_Moyo">Elson Moyo</a> and senior officers from the ZDF, handed a new house to the Fenyere family.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/afz-honours-pledge-to-build-house/">The Herald</a> reports that the house was handed over to Mr Fenyere and his family in Goromonzi yesterday. Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said:

This tragedy happened when no one least expected. It left the Fenyere family almost stranded. We as the Ministry of Defence and War Veterans Affairs and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces were shocked by the tragedy, to say the least.
I vividly recall the sombre atmosphere when I came here, a day after the accident in order to pay our condolences and comfort the Fenyere family.
I spoke at length with the family and pledged on behalf of the ministry to support and stand with the family. Thereafter, the Air Force of Zimbabwe mobilised items that would cushion the family on their day-to-day living. But these items were never going to count for anything without the family having their damaged shelter restored.
It was then that my ministry made a commitment to construct a house for the Fenyere family. Immediately after authority was granted, the Air Force of Zimbabwe dispatched a group of construction experts to ascertain the work that was to be done. Their feedback highlighted that the cost of repairing the house was comparable to constructing a new one.
On the other hand, Mr Fenyere, who had been constantly in touch with our Air Force chaplain who was handling the family’s post-bereavement issues, requested for a new house to be built instead of having the damaged one repaired. His reasons were quite understandable especially considering the trauma the family had gone through.

The minister added that the design for the house was done by the Air Force drawing team. The house has tiled floors, ceiling, plastered walls, modern tubs and ceramic cisterns, some skating around the building, a solar geyser, a new septic tank and soak away, security lights and a painted roof. The house still has its 10 rooms, of which one is self-contained, two linking and the rest separate.

AFZ Finishes Building House For Goromonzi Helicopter Crash Victims

President Mnangagwa yesterday promoted 17 Air Force of Zimbabwe Squadron Leaders to the rank of Wing Commander and 15 Flight Lieutenants to Squadron Leaders with effect from December 31 last year. 
The President made the promotions in terms of Section 15(1) (b) of the Defence Act, which allows the president, on the advice of the minister acting on the recommendation of the commander,” to promote or temporarily appoint an officer to a higher rank.
The latest promotions follow last week’s ceremony which saw two senior officers being elevated to the rank of Air Commodore and six rising to the Group Captain rank.
Conferring the new insignia to the newly-promoted servicemen, AFZ Chief of Staff Operations Air Vice Marshal Biltim Chingono said it was an appreciation for the job the officers perform in defence of the country’s aspirations. He said:

The State greatly appreciates the duties you perform bearing in mind the immense responsibility bestowed on you. These promotions are also a reminder to all of us here that it is the prize placed on hard work and sacrifice.
Let it be known that efforts of this nature are never in vain, but always recompensed by more, it is also an encouragement for you to continue to excel and strive for the next level I know that through the requisite staff development training you have been equipped with, essential knowledge and skills to positively contribute to the growth of the organisation and the country at large.

He called on the newly-promoted to continue with their exemplary culture of hard work.
Air Vice-Marshal Chingono reminded the newly-promoted that their promotion came with more responsibilities
Among the promoted officers is Wing Commander Tawanda Zowa, who distinguished himself in air power at the Joint Command Staff Course Number 33 at Zimbabwe Staff College in 2020. 
Wing Commander Tarsianna Machekabuwe expressed gratitude for the promotion and vowed to continue working hard for the betterment of the AFZ and the nation at large

President Mnangagwa Promotes 34 Air Force Of Zimbabwe Officers

Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Air Marshal Elson Moyo has commended the pilots of a Mi-35 helicopter gunship for “a masterful landing” in Chitungwiza after the chopper had developed a technical fault.
Moyo said the pilots’ skills saved the lives of the aircrew and the people on the ground.
The <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/07/10/another-army-helicopter-crashes-in-chitungwiza/">helicopter reportedly crash-landed</a> near oil expresser Surface Wilmar in Chitungwiza on Thursday evening. Speaking on the incident, Moyo said:
<blockquote>_It took tremendous skill and presence of mind for the pilots to put the lives of the people on the ground first, while experiencing an emergency._
_I wish to commend the aircrew for averting a major accident and saving lives and damage to property._</blockquote>
According to the AFZ, the pilots made the emergency landing after the helicopter developed a technical fault during a flight on Thursday while flying from Kutanga Range in Kwekwe to Manyame Air Force Base. Said AFZ:
<blockquote>_Group Captain Maxwell Sakupwanya as the Captain and Flight Lieutenant Atiowin Tsongora, as the co-pilot/navigator, however, had the presence of mind to steer the helicopter away from built-up areas and other obstacles before making a forced landing about five kilometres to the south of Chitungwiza (Unit L cemeteries)._</blockquote>
Some Chitungwiza residents who spoke to The Herald said the incident occurred at 4.30 pm on Thursday.
They also said the helicopter landed at the dumpsite where there are no buildings.
In April, four people, including two pilots and an engineer, died while two others were injured after an Air Force of Zimbabwe Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412) helicopter crashed in the Hukuru Area in Arcturus, Mashonaland East.

Air Force Boss Speaks On Helicopter "Crash" In Chitungwiza

Air Force of Zimbabwe wing commander, Matthew Mushininga is seeking retirement saying he’s been emotionally tortured since 2018.
The commander argues he was emotionally tortured since 2018 when he was wrongfully accused of unlawfully entering into a liquor bar for junior officers at Manyame airbase.
He also indicated that he has been cut off the payroll and thrown out of military housing adding that the Air Force turned down his application for discharge without giving any reasons.
Mushininga also accuses Defence Minister, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri of ignoring his letter and notice to sue that was tendered in December last year.
He said an inquiry was instituted on the alleged unlawful entry but he was never told of the outcome.
Mushininga alleged he was made to stay home for five months before being transferred to the Zimbabwe National Defense University where he was appointed director of business development but was quickly demoted and given the job in an acting capacity without “any explanation.”
Mushininga’s attorneys from M.E Motsi &amp; Associates, say their client was not paid for the short-lived acting directorship assignment.
Then in 2019, the officer says he was involved in a road accident, prompting another inquiry whose findings remain unknown to him.
The Air Force allegedly repossessed his service vehicle and reassigned it to another officer despite that the army had deducted repair fees from his salary.
In January last year, Mushininga was transferred to Zimbabwe Staff College as teaching staff, only to be thrown back in the commander’s pool, again without explanation.
Mushininga was later kicked out of his Manyame Airbase housing and barred from stepping his foot in any Air Force premises.
In the application in which he also cited Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander (ZDF) commander <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Philip_Valerio_Sibanda">Valerio Sibanda</a> and Air Force Commander <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Elson_Moyo">Elson Moyo</a> as respondents, Mushinunga said:
<blockquote>_Accordingly, it is in the best interests of both applicant and respondents that he be retired from the Air Force of Zimbabwe with full benefits._</blockquote>
The matter is yet to be heard.
