The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM)</a> has resolved to hold all its National Conferences as per the Church’s calendar of events.
Earlier this week, AFM leadership notified congregants that the Youth Conference that was scheduled to be held at Rufaro Conference Centre in Masvingo in April had been postponed due to financial constraints.
But in another notice issued on Wednesday, 01 March 2023, AFM president Amon Madawo said the church will launch fundraising initiatives to ensure that all National Conferences go ahead as scheduled. He said:

We are glad to advise that… following intensive engagements and arrangements made by the Church Leadership and its departments on the state of the church and… following discussions on sustainable fund-raising initiatives…
The National Executive Board has reconsidered its decision and all National Conferences will go ahead as per the Church’s calendar of events.
Details on how our conferences and fundraising will proceed will be communicated by the National Management Committee and the relevant departments.
All church members are encouraged to participate in the fundraising initiatives and to attend the conferences for our spiritual fellowship.

AFM In Zimbabwe Reverses Decision To Postpone Youth Conference

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM)</a> has deferred the Youth Conference that was scheduled to be held at Rufaro Conference Centre in Masvingo in April.
In a notice seen by Pindula News, the church said the move is one of the strategies adopted to counter the negative impact of low revenue inflows. Reads the notice sent to all Provincial Chairmen, Provincial Secretaries, Provincial Overseers, and Provincial Treasurers:

<h2>NATIONAL LEVIES AND FUNDRAISING</h2>
Calvary Greetings. 
Due to the challenges faced by the Church over the past three years which include a barrage of court battles setting up of new structures, clearance of legacy issues and so forth, the Church was not in a good position to mobilize adequate financial resources to meet all its obligations and has in some instances, been inevitably lagging behind on meeting its commitments.
At its recent meeting, the National Executive Board noted that the revenues being generated and remitted to the Consolidated Revenue Fund, are currently below expected levels, and not covering all the costs of the Church. It is against this background that the National Executive Board resolved to take some drastic measures to counter the negative impact of the above and implement a program of interventions for the purpose of extinguishing the growing debt burden and re-align costs to income levels. 
Some of the interventions approved for implementation by the Board include: 
a) Deferring March/April Provincial Spiritual Conferences, the National Youth Conference and National Ladies Conference. The rationale for the deferment is to reduce the impact of levies of these conferences on the revenue generation efforts of Assemblies. Separate communication will be issued with details of when these conferences have been rescheduled from the relevant offices. 
b) Implementation of an urgent manpower audit with a view to rationalize the number of the Church’s employees. 
c) Wage freeze in USD under the current wage levels. 
The Board has further resolved that all Provinces shall be levied an amount based on the principle of equity, to raise the required funding according to the attached schedule. 
We regret any inconveniences caused by the changes, which we anticipate will yield long-term benefits to the Church and key stakeholders. We appeal to all Provincial Boards and Leadership to ensure that the levied amounts are collected and remitted promptly. We look forward to the unwavering support of our formidable Church Membership to overcome this temporary challenge. Your efforts in this endeavour are greatly appreciated.

No Rufaro: AFM In Zimbabwe Defers Youth Conference

The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe Domboramwari Assembly Sunday service degenerated into chaos yesterday after congregants blocked the introduction of a new resident pastor.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/congregants-disrupt-church-service-force-pastor-to-leave-pulpit/">H-Metro</a> reported that a provincial church leader, identified as Pastor Hungwe, was heckled by church members and told to leave the pulpit while introducing the new pastor.
Irate church members waved placards written, “We want Chazika”, “Leave politics to politicians, kana vafundisi venyu vasina mabasa, ngavatsvage mabasa”.
Pastor Hungwe preached briefly before announcing that he had been sent to introduce a new resident pastor.
He said the incumbent, Pastor Pride Chazika, had been reassigned to the Stoneridge Assembly. Said Pastor Hungwe:

We serve a God of seasons. Today I have come to announce a message from the provincial headquarters about a new pastor who will take you through this season.
</blockquote>
Some people believed to have been hired to disturb the announcement then disrupted the announcement and confronted Pastor Hungwe and forced him to leave the pulpit.
They waved placards and chanted words of protest, demanding that Pastor Chazika be retained.
The Domboramwari Assembly chairperson called for order to give Pastor Hungwe a chance to respond to the congregants’ demands. He said:

Thank you for understanding. As children of God, since we are of the same faith and church, I have heard your message and I will take it as it is to the province.
I cannot say it is good or bad, but I will present it to the provincial leadership as it is that you do not want Pastor Chazika to be removed from this assembly.

The new pastor and his wife, who were awaiting to be presented to the church, walked away as congregants continued to protest.
A senior church member claimed that Pastor Chazika was being persecuted. Said the congregant:
It doesn’t mean that we are against you, but the church leadership failed to address the matter of Pastor Chazika.

Pastor Chazika has been reassigned to Stoneridge, not as a routine change, but as punishment for reprimanding one of the church board members’ wife for misbehaving at a meeting in Masvingo.
He was humiliated last Tuesday over this and forced to pack his belongings. He cried as he was not even allowed to say goodbye to his flock. That is unacceptable, musatambe nesu muchidaro.
Pastor Chazika has been with us for two years only and another pastor was also removed from here for preaching the true gospel and calling a spade a spade.
If we continue to allow leadership to treat people and junior pastors in this manner, we will also be held accountable for not defending their rights and instead siding with lies.

Pastor Hungwe told the Assembly that he will return with the provincial leadership’s decision next Sunday.

AFM Congregants Heckle Pastor, Force Him To Leave Pulpit

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe</a>‘s national chairman, Retired Reverend Jemitias Chivhenge has died.
AFM leader, President Amon D. Madawo made the announcement on Wednesday evening. He said:

Good evening hama dzagu. It is with a heavy heart that I announce that our National Chairman Rev J Chivhenge has passed on to glory.

Details about his death are still unknown.
He has been the national board chairman of AFM in Zimbabwe since the inception of the amended constitution in 2018.

AFM In Zimbabwe National Chair Rev Chivhenge Has Died

The president of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe, Bishop Amon Dubie Madawo, has demanded the unconditional removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the United States and its allies arguing that the economic restrictions are hurting ordinary people.
James O’Brien, the U.S. State Department’s sanctions coordinator, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/us-official-blames-zimbabwes-economic-decline-on-corruption-not-sanctions/">recently said Zimbabwe’s economic decline was caused by corruption and bad economic policies, and not by sanctions.</a>
He said the U.S.and other Western nations imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe in response to election rigging and human rights abuses.
But speaking during an interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/sanctions-must-go-afm-president/">The Manica Post</a>, Madawo said sanctions are a form of punishment imposed on Zimbabwe after Harare embarked on the land reform programme to redistribute national resources equitably. Madawo said:

The church, as an agent, can comment on anything. It has its own voice on this sanctions story because they are affecting the generality of Zimbabweans.
They are an albatross around the neck of Christians and the generality of the population.
There is misinformation that the sanctions are targeted at certain individuals, yet their debilitating impact is affecting all of us. They are affecting the whole nation.
Their victims are innocent people whom we preach to every day and these are people who are not in decision-making positions.
These sanctions are not helping but hurting the people of Zimbabwe. Our country and economy could be doing much better without them.
We cannot secure credit lines and foreign direct investments as a result of these sanctions, meaning they are stifling economic growth.
As church leaders, we are saying the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe must be removed.
It is not wrong for us to demand our liberty in terms of our land, economy and democratic space.
The people of Zimbabwe cannot be subjected to this kind of torture and suffering simply because they took back their land and corrected the racially-induced disproportionate distribution of national resources.
Zimbabwe is an independent nation that should attain its socio-economic self-actualisation. 
Historically, the land belonged to black people and it was taken away from us, so why should we be punished for correcting a historical injustice?
Why should we suffer for claiming back our land? These sanctions must be removed, they are not for any good to anyone.

Sanctions Are Hurting Christians, Says AFM President

The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe will hold the Greater Harare Conference this weekend from Friday to Sunday.
Greater Harare is made up of AFM In Zimbabwe congregants from Harare, Chitungwiza and Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West provinces.
Several top gospel artists, among them Mathias Mhere, Dorcas Moyo, Jonah Chivasa, Joyful Praise and the National Praise team, will perform at the event which will be held at Glamis Arena at the Exhibition Park.
AFM in Zimbabwe president Amon Madawo told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/top-gospel-acts-for-afm-conference/">The Herald</a> that the main aim of the conference is to bring healing and revival to the members of the church. He said:

We have so far held Greater Manicaland, Greater Chivhu and Greater Bulawayo conferences.
March 2023 will see us holding Greater Midlands for all the congregants from Gokwe and surrounding areas and Midlands province at large.
The main thrust of these conferences is to bring part and parcel of healing and revival to the members of the AFM.
In addition, preparing the members and refocusing the church on her mission and mandate will be key.
Thus in addition brings the attention of the members to prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Madawo said the Bishop of Pentecostal Assemblies who is also in the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, Bishop Never Muparutsa, will be the guest speaker.
He said AFM has also invited other church bodies as well as Government officials, the Harare City mayor and captains of industry.
The theme of the conference, “Impacting the World Through the Gospel of the Kingdom” which was derived from Matthew 24 verses 11-14 and Acts 1:8.

Dorcas Moyo To Perform At AFM Greater Harare Conference

The Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe led by Reverend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Cossam_Chiangwa">Cossam Chiangwa</a> has been confirmed by Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) International.
Chiangwa told NewsDay in a recent interview.
He vowed that he would not leave AFM saying that’s the church he was brought up in.  Chiangwa said:

We are AFM. My DNA is AFM. I will never change the birth certificate of the church organisation that I was raised in and called to serve by God. I will remain AFM until Jesus comes, together with all those that choose to worship and serve God under the flagship of the original AFM.
</blockquote>
<h2>Some Context:</h2>
There were differences in the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe</a> over the proposed Constitutional Amendment (some of the amendments were eventually adopted.)
Chiangwa and his followers were against the amendments while the other side led by AFM in Zimbabwe’s former president, Reverend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Aspher_Madziyire">Aspher Madziyire</a> pushed for the amendments.
The proposed Amendment, among other things, sought to centralise church funds, and abolish Appreciation (gifts and money given to pastors).
Resultantly, AFM split into two factions in 2018 with the church’s former general-secretary, Reverend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Amon_Madawo">Amon Madawo</a> leading one, while Chiangwa (the church’s former deputy president) led the other faction.
The matter spilt into courts and Madawo’s side won the case. Chiangwa and his team were ordered to cease using the church name, symbols and properties.

This resulted in the formation of the AFM of Zimbabwe. Notable differences include the direction and colour of the cross on the symbols. While AFM in Zimbabwe’s cross is blue and tilted toward the right, the AFM of Zimbabwe’s is red and tilted toward the left.
AFM of Zimbabwe now uses the Mufaro Conference Centre instead of the Rufaro Conference Centre in Masvingo.
<h2>Importance of AFM International:</h2>
The Apostolic Faith Mission International is the fellowship body where AFM churches worldwide unite. From South Africa, the AFM grew into many countries on the African continent, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. These international churches of the AFM are linked up through the AFM International to which member countries affiliate. 
When Madawo’s side won the court case, they automatically retained their membership in AFM International. 
In August 2019, the AFMI invited only Madawo to a conference held at Kenyatta University. Chiangwa, regardless of not being invited, travelled for the conference but was stopped from attending meetings.
Therefore, without a bigger or international stage, they affiliate with, the AFM of Zimbabwe would have been isolated or remained a local church. This is captured in Chiangwa’s own words:

If AFM International had decided to throw me out, we would have remained street kids on the marketplace of churches, with the AFM DNA. We know no other parent.
</blockquote>
It now means both AFM in Zimbabwe and AFM of Zimbabwe are affiliated with AFM International.

Chiangwa-led AFM Of Zimbabwe Confirmed By AFM International

The High Court has ordered an <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/AFM_of_Zimbabwe">AFM of Zimbabwe</a> pastor to vacate premises belonging to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">AFM in Zimbabwe</a> which he has been occupying in defiance of a court judgment.
Pastor Albert Chabvuta of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Cossam_Chiangwa">Cossam Chiangwa</a>-led church has been refusing to leave the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe, Tynwald South Assembly, in defiance of <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/28/supreme-court-upholds-high-court-ruling-in-afm-saga/">a Supreme Court ruling</a>.
The order was made in favour of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">AFM in Zimbabwe</a>, led by Reverend <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Amon_Madawo">Amon Madawo</a>, in May 2021.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/afm-pastor-evicted/">H-Metro reports</a> that Pastor Chabvuta clashed with church members, on a number of occasions, forcing some to meet for prayers outside the church premises.
He also denied them access to the church truck, offices and a PA system.
Last week, Pastor Chabvuta skipped court and a default judgment was issued against him. Reads the judgment:

The respondent is hereby evicted from Stand number 5625 Stortford Road, Harare.
The respondent is hereby interdicted from engaging in his religious activities, or any activities, at Stand number 5625 Stortford Road, Tynwald Plots, Harare.
The respondent pays holding over damages to the applicant in the sum of US$200 per month from the date of service of the application to the date of vacation from the property.
The respondent shall pay costs of suit.

The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe last year upheld the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/09/05/high-court-rules-in-favour-of-reformers-in-afm-church-dispute/">ruling given by the High Court</a> in the AFM church leadership crisis case.
Squabbles in AFM in Zimbabwe started after an attempt by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Aspher_Madziyire">Aspher Madziyire</a> group (now led by Madawo) to amend the church constitution. The other side led by Chiangwa resisted resulting in a leadership crisis which was eventually settled in the courts.
Despite <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/09/05/high-court-rules-in-favour-of-reformers-in-afm-church-dispute/">the loss in court</a> and declaration that they were now AFM of Zimbabwe, some of Chiangwa’s pastors clung to AFM in Zimbabwe’s properties resulting in chaos at some assemblies.

Chiangwa's Pastor Evicted From AFM Church

The Supreme Court has ordered Reverend Cossam Chiangwa and his <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Apostolic_Faith_Mission_in_Zimbabwe">Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM)</a> faction to return all the properties to the church led by Reverend Amon Madawo. Pindula News reports that the higher Court upheld the High Court ruling on the matter. We present part of the ruling below.

1. The application for a declaratory order be and is hereby granted. 
2. The to 46 applicants be and arc hereby declared to be the duly and properly elected officials of the fifth applicant. 
3. The respondents are hereby barred from using the name of the fifth applicant in the conduct of their activities without the authorisation of the applicants. 
4. The respondents are hereby barred from accessing or using any assets or property of any kind belonging to the fifth applicant. 
5. The respondents (Chiangwa) and their followers or agents or assignees be and are hereby directed to relinquish to the fifth applicant *_all and any property belonging to the fifth applicant (AFM) is in possession or under control of the respondents._*
 6. Failure of 5 above, the Sheriff of Zimbabwe or his lawful deputy be and is hereby authorised to take all and any property and assets belonging to the applicant from the control and possession of the respondents and handover same to applicants. 
7. The respondents shall pay applicant’s costs of suits. (My underlining for emphasis). </blockquote>

AFM Saga: Chiangwa Ordered To Return All Church Properties

AFM faction led by reverend Cossam Chiangwa has argued in its notice of appeal against the High Court decision that the High Court made some mistakes in its judgment.
The appeal follows a ruling by High Court judge Justice David Mangota which declared that Bishop Aspher Madziyire, who leads the other group, was the rightful head of the church.
The judgment also granted Bishop Madziyire’s camp, nicknamed “Reformists” by Bishop Chiangwa’s side, with the authority to use and control the church’s assets.
Justice Mangota also ruled that Rev Chiangwa’s side would have to ask for permission from Rev Madziyire’s side (declared rightful head of the church) to use the church premises and assets.
In a twist of events, Rev Chiangwa’s side revealed in their notice of appeal that they want the side led by Rev Madziyire and or Rev Madawu now to return all the church assets and stop using the name when conducting business.
Rev Chioangwa’s camp contended in its notice of appeal that the High Court erred by failing to realise that the process used by the side led by Rev Madziyire to adopt the new Constitution was unprocedural. Part of the notice read:
<blockquote>The High Court grossly erred in finding that the new constitution adopted by the second and the eighth respondents was not renunciation of the AFM constitution when the said constitution was not placed before the court by the respondents who had no onus to place it before the court.</blockquote>
