Former ANC Secretary-General, Ace Magashule, has established a new party called the African Congress for Transformation (ACT). Despite being expelled from the ANC due to corruption allegations, Magashule reportedly remains popular among certain left-leaning voters.
Analysts suggest that the formation of the new party could further erode support for the ANC, which has faced accusations of corruption and mismanagement. Polls indicate that the ANC’s vote share may drop below 50 percent in the 2024 elections.
Magashule stated that ACT aims to advocate for all South Africans, offering a new home for those who feel betrayed, fatigued, or homeless. He defended his ally Jacob Zuma, claiming that he was unfairly targeted in a witch hunt for challenging white monopoly capital. Magashule told a press briefing in Soweto:

We are a new political party and we call ourselves the people’s party.

Magashule faces charges of corruption, fraud, and money laundering. These charges stem from allegations that he misappropriated public funds designated for the removal of asbestos from government-built homes. Magashule was suspended and later expelled from the ANC as part of their efforts to address multiple scandals. The investigation suggests that more than $12 million intended for the asbestos clean-up may have been embezzled.

Former ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule Forms New Party

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has expelled former Secretary-General, Ace Magashule.
Magashule was found guilty of misconduct. He also failed to make submissions as to why he should not be expelled from the party after he was given seven days to do so.
In 2021, Magashule unilaterally attempted to suspend party president Cyril Ramaphosa and subsequently refused to apologise to the party’s president and its structures.
He was suspended from the ANC in the same year following corruption charges and was then forced to step aside in line with the ANC’s new rules for those facing corruption and other serious charges.
The ANC announced Magashule’s expulsion from the party in a statement released on Monday afternoon. Reads the statement:

1. The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the African National Congress (ANC) met to deliberate on charges preferred against its former Secretary-General, Comrade Ace Magashule.
2. The NDC found Comrade Ace Magashule guilty of contravening Rules 25.17.12, 25.17.3, 12.1 and 12.2.20 of the ANC Constitution.
3. After a guilty verdict by the NDC, Comrade Ace Magashule was allowed to show cause why he should not be expelled from the ANC. Upon the lapse of seven (7) days, the NDC had not received any representations to that effect.
4. Consequently, the NDC confirmed the expulsion of comrade Ace Magashule from the ANC as a final sanction.
5. This statement is made public as provided for in paragraph 64 of Appendix 3 of the ANC Constitution.

Ace Magashule has lost his last legal bid to get <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/05/anc-suspends-secretary-general-ace-magashule/">his suspension</a> as the African National Congress (ANC)’s secretary-general overturned, <a href="https://ewn.co.za/0001/01/01/magashule-loses-last-legal-bid-to-overturn-suspension-as-anc-secretary-general">Eyewitness News</a> reports.
The Constitutional Court dismissed his application for leave to appeal, explaining that there is no reasonable prospect for success.
Magashule wanted his suspension declared unlawful invalid and unconstitutional. He also wanted the courts to validate a<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/05/full-text-suspended-magashule-suspends-ramaphosa/"> suspension letter he had issued against ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa</a>.
<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/05/05/anc-suspends-secretary-general-ace-magashule/">In a letter</a>, drafted on 3 May, 2021 deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte informed Magashule that he was temporarily suspended with effect from 3 May 2021, until the final outcome of his court proceedings.
Magashule is out on R200 000 bail and charged with corruption, fraud and money laundering related to a Free State asbestos tender.
Duarte told Magashule that, as part of his suspension, the latter may not carry out his duties and responsibilities as the secretary-general; he may not represent the organisation publicly, and he cannot make public pronouncements nor can he mobilise ANC structures. 
He remains suspended from the organisation.
Last year, Magashule told Eyewitness News that he was committed to issuing an apology to the party for trying to suspend Ramaphosa if all three courts rejected his bid to have his own suspension declared invalid.

Magashule Loses Final Legal Bid To Get His Suspension As ANC's SG Overturned

ZANU PF’s arrogance when dealing with an African National Congress (ANC) special envoy delegation led by Ace Magashule to Harare in September 2020 reportedly hardened South Africa’s stance towards Zimbabwe asylum seeks who benefited from the Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEP) programme in the neighbouring country.
In November 2021, the South African Government announced its decision to discontinue the special permits granted to about 200 000 Zimbabweans who were living and working in South Africa for many years.
On New Year’s eve, South Africa effectively ended a decade-long moratorium that allowed the Zimbabwean economic refugees to live and work in the neighbouring country through issuing the special permit (ZEP) that was renewable every four years.
News24 reported South African diplomatic sources as saying South Africa’s hard-line stance was inevitable after ZANU PF told Magashule to stop meddling in Zimbabwean affairs.
Soon after the ANC delegation’s visit to Harare, ZANU PF Director for Information and Publicity, Tafadzwa Mugwadi said South Africa’ ruling party should concentrate on fixing issues bedevilling their country. Mugwadi said at the time:

It is unfortunate, but we find it imperative to inform our sister revolutionary party, the ANC to focus their attention on matters affecting South Africans rather than attempt to experiment with attention-seeking gimmicks in the name of our stable nation and our peaceful people.
For the record, there was no deliberation nor agreement on them coming back to meet anyone over the issues we discussed.
It is unprecedented in the history of our fraternal relations as revolutionary parties for the ANC to seek to verify our submissions through puppet movements.
Just imagine a ZANU PF delegation forcing itself to engage renegade movements like DA, EFF or Afrikaner organisations to verify and ascertain whether the ANC is correct or not.

Mugwadi was partly responding to reports claiming that Magashule and his delegation was expected to return to Harare to engage with opposition political parties in a bid to bring Zimbabwe’s political actors to the dialogue table.
ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu also warned the ANC against poking “its nose in the [Zimbabwe’s] internal affairs but should focus on multiple problems affecting that country such as factionalism and inequalities” according to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zim-asserts-its-sovereignty/">a report</a>.

ZANU PF "Arrogance" Pushed SA To Cancel Zimbabwe Exemption Permits

South Africa’s ruling party, ANC has told suspended Secretary-General, Ace Magashule to apologise for suspending Cyril Ramaphosa as the president of the party.
Magashule had defied the suspension which he said was faltered and announced that he was suspending Ramaphosa instead of stepping down pending the outcome of his corruption, fraud and money laundering case.
Ramaphosa revealed on Monday that the NEC, which has been meeting for the past three days, wants Magashule to apologise or face disciplinary action. In his closing remarks, Ramaphosa said:
<blockquote>_The NEC also discussed the so-called letter of suspension written by the secretary-general to the president for which the secretary-general had no authority or mandate from any structure of the movement._
_The NEC agreed that such conduct was completely unacceptable and a flagrant violation of the rules, the norms, and the values of the ANC._</blockquote>
He added that NEC further instructed its top officials to advise Magashule to apologise publicly to ANC structures and members within a set time frame failure of which will in the ANC instituting “disciplinary procedures in accordance with the ANC constitution.”
Ramaphosa also confirmed that ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte would carry out the secretary-general functions in Magashule’s absence.
NEC members also condemned “unwarranted attacks” on Duarte and ANC staff members at Luthuli House, whom Ramaphosa said had been subjected to threats, insults and unfounded allegations and misinformation for carrying out decisions of the NEC, NWC and officials.

ANC Tells Magashule To Apologise For Suspending Ramaphosa

Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU PF has said it will not interfere in the internal squabbles of South Africa’s ruling party African National Congress (ANC) whilst the opposition MDC Alliance is optimistic for an amicable solution.
This comes at the backdrop of a crisis in ANC following the suspension of Secretary-General Ace Magashule pending the outcome on his corruption, fraud and money laundering case.
Magashule refused to be suspended and in turn said he was suspending President Cyril Ramaphosa as the party’s president, a move that the NEC described as insubordination that will be dealt with accordingly.
Speaking on the possibility of ZANU PF interfering in the squabbles, the party’s spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said:
<blockquote>_The issue is very clear, Zanu-PF and the ANC are sister parties. We exchange notes and a number of things in common between sister parties and also with other sister parties in the region._
_What is happening in the ANC is purely an internal matter for the ANC and if there is need for them to let us know and be aware of anything, we shall obviously welcome that, but certainly, that is a purely internal matter._</blockquote>
On Friday, Moyo told journalists that Zanu-PF would not be sending a delegation to interfere in ANC internal processes adding, however, that president Emmerson Mnangagwa had been briefed by his South African counterpart on the developments.
Meanwhile, MDC Alliance secretary for international relations Gladys Hlatywayo said her party hopes that the ANC leaders would solve their differences amicably citing South Africa’s importance in the region and Zimbabwe in particular. Hlatywayo added:
<blockquote>_We believe South Africa is a democracy and has strong institutions that can mediate any internal issues that might arise._
_The same applies to the ANC as a political party. It is certainly different from Zanu-PF that meddles in the affairs of State institutions and forces them to parrot their narrow partisan views._ </blockquote>
Power dynamics in South Africa might affect the whole of the SADC region and Zimbabwe in particular considering the former’s influence on both the region and Zimbabwe.

ZANU PF, MDC Comment On ANC Squabbles

The ANC Women’s League distanced itself from suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule at the weekend, saying it will not support an individual leader but the entire collective leadership of the party.
Magashule was suspended early this week by the party for failing to step aside after the 30-day period he was given by the ANC.
He is facing criminal charges relating to the Free State asbestos tender and is out on R200 000 bail.
News24 reported that during a virtual meeting on Friday, ANCWL president Bathabile Dlamini proposed that the league meet with party officials to ask them to defer the implementation of a decision to suspend criminally charged leaders who did not step aside within a 30-day deadline, in the interests of uniting the party.
Some league leaders who support Magashule reportedly insisted that the ANC should review the step-aside policy and that the party should convene an urgent national general council.
However, other delegates, such as former ANCWL secretary Sisi Tolashe, said the ANC Women’s League could not seek to defy a resolution of the ANC conference that it was part of.
In an interview with the SABC on Friday, Magashule hinted that he had the support of the ANCWL, singling out its secretary-general Meokgo Matuba as having voiced the league’s support for him.
However, on Saturday morning, the ANCWL issued a statement noting its concern about Magashule’s conduct and distancing the league from him. The statement says:
<blockquote>With the suspension imposed on him, we appeal to him, as women, to consider humbling himself while organisational processes unfold.
We know that it is difficult but we plead with him to rise above and not conduct himself in ways that further weaken the already struggling ANC.
We are further worried that he mentioned the name of our secretary-general, Cde Meokgo Matuba, in one of his interviews.
The ANCWL will not support any individual leader of the ANC but stands to reaffirm the entire collective leadership of the ANC and our confidence in them to deliver a better life for all, especially women and other marginalised groupings.
The ANCWL chooses the ANC above all divisions in the movement. We refuse to be drawn in on the differences of ANC men who don’t care about the future of the liberation movement.
We will remain unshaken to fight for the soul of the ANC and we are confident that those who choose the ANC will stand with us.</blockquote>

ANC Women's League Ditches Ace Magashule

Suspended African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule has confirmed to Independent Media that he was removed from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) virtual meeting on Saturday. He said:
<blockquote>I am the one who convened that meeting, I called the meeting and have been making plans until yesterday. The meeting started at 10 am and at 10:10 they noticed I was part of the Zoom meeting and pressed the button. I am not part of the meeting anymore, that is all I can say.</blockquote>
This is despite Magashule insisting on Friday that he will join the meeting as he has appealed his suspension.
In a statement on Saturday morning, the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) appealed to Magashule to humble himself and step aside as was directed by the party. The statement read:
<blockquote>We know that it is difficult but we plead with him to rise above and not conduct himself in ways that further weaken the already struggling ANC. We are further worried that he mentioned the name of Matuba in one of his interviews.

Ace Magashule Removed From Virtual ANC NEC Meeting

A ZBC News columnist only identified as “A Comrade” has claimed that South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) is being run by a white shadow government.
The columnist was commenting on developments in the party that saw Secretary-General Ace Magashule being suspended after refusing to step down pending the outcome of his corruption, fraud and money laundering case.
Magashule dramatically announced that he was suspended President Cyril Ramaphosa from the post of party president, a move which the and said will respond to accordingly.
The columnist believes the ANC’s NEC is being instructed by someone to go hard on Magashule and says they should leave him alone. Below are excerpts from the columnist’s article:
<blockquote>Who is running the ANC, Luthuli House or a white shadow government?
This militant character of Ace standing up for his convictions and challenging the culture of inclusion, is what sees him being targeted by the Thuma Mina brigade.
His departure is critical for them because if they fail to remove him and other undesirables from the list. Big business has vowed to starve the ANC, government and SOEs of funding to levels worse than those exerted on the Zuma government.
The intention being to worsen the electricity crisis, make SOEs and the business sector dysfunctional, causing mass unemployment, lowering tax collection, forcing potential debt defaults and an inevitable ratings downgrade that will cause chaos for the ANC to give capital greater leverage.
All in the while they will bump up support for the DA and it’s black masks, encouraging defections from the ANC and pushing for the formation of coalitions against the party.
A strategy that will strengthen coalitions as a means to neutralize an ANC majority, transferring political power back to the Broederbond and their capital masters, while creating a perfect Hegelian Dialectic for capital to buy-up broke SEOs for a song.
To avoid this outcome, Thuma Mina and they hope, opposing elements within the party, will be pushed to exert their influence on the NEC, to drop candidates with allegations of corruption from the list, to save the party.
This requires the raising of negative sentiment and allegations of corruption around the SG so that they can push him out. An outcome that must be achieved by June.
The challenge that boThuma Mina face is if they don’t remove their nemesis, is it will not only cause a loss in financial support for the party and Ramaphosa government, but more critically, it poses a real functional challenge for Ramaphosa to work under a Secretary General who is committed to upholding the resolutions set at Nasrac.
This would hinder Ramaphosa’s ability to push through Rupert’s wish list without facing resistance in the party.
A wish list that prescribes that once the ANC wins the next elections, Ramaphoza needs to immediately proceed to fast track three major projects:
• The privatization of SOEs which currently is not ANC policy.
• Reviving and funding the nuclear build program,
• Which must begin with the removal of Russian companies and replacing them with American and French partners aligned to Rothschilds interests.
To achieve this, key strategic positions in government and select SEOs are said to have been earmarked for specific senior white captains of industry or deployees of capital, tasked with steering the country on a Washington Consensus, neo-liberal path which black people are not trusted to fulfill.
The rumor mill is also speculating that Steven Kosef, Maria Ramos and Martin Kingston have already resigned from their high profile jobs in preparation for deployment into a Ramaphosa government.
Martin Kingston the ex-CEO of Rothschild South Africa is on record saying that he is ready to step in to help restructuring Eskom and silencing voices that are delaying the privatization of Eskom.
A clear indication that ANC collective decision making will take a back seat under the new Thuma Mina dispensation, hence the need to remove any strong revolutionaries who are likely to challenge Ramaphosa’s carte blanche.
Just like many votes were bought at Nasrac, we are told that great strides are being taken to convert key party loyalists to align with the Thuma Mina program of capture.
Such strides include blackmail and lubrication of the party, coupled by generous incentives for cadres courtesy of the largess of Rupert and Bidvest etal.
Meanwhile, law enforcement arms are being geared to focus investigations on eliminating individuals who are opposed to the interests of the new order.
All in the while, at the high table, the black Rothschilds: Patrice, Jeff and Cyril the hand picked proxies of white capital, continue to sharpen their knives on deals in energy in preparation for the privatization of Eskom and the pending nuclear program.
The grapevine has it that Cyril has interests in Cahorra Bassa, which indirectly sets him as a crucial independent energy provider to Eskom through his energy company.
Businessmen brought into the political fold need not corrupt politicians to access resources as they can now simply use their political office to appropriate resources at will for the benefit of their principals and families.
Never has accumulating wealth been so easy as now when capital has a revolving door with government, regulatory bodies and the ruling party.
Soon we will see the return of Jewish and Broederbond elites in government and SOEs to complete the structure of inclusion.
With all these revelations land expropriation without compensation is beginning to look highly unlikely under Cyril and his handlers. And if it’s still on the cards, one thing is for sure, it will happen on their terms, hence, Patrice is sitting with the emergency land reform fund given by Soros.
This is why they must eliminate anyone who might stand in their way.
Although comrade Ace has his own skeletons. Those of us who know him understand his passion for black empowerment, transformation, land reform and creating an equal society for all.
So if we lose him, we will be hard pressed to find another person who has not sold out for inclusion to run with the mandate of our electorate like the current SG.
It’s with this that I appeal to those comrades who still believe in the principles and ideals that brought us into the revolutionary idea called ANC. South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has responded to suspended Secretary-General, Ace Magashule’s statement that suspends president Cyril Ramaphosa as the party’s president.
ANC National Spokesperson, Pule Mabe says the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will be meeting this weekend and will accordingly respond to the Secretary-General. He said:

The African National Congress notes the letter written by the Secretary-General Comrade Ace Magashule to the President of the ANC Comrade Cyril Ramaphosa.

ANC Responds To Magashule's Statement

The ANC Wednesday temporarily suspended secretary-general, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ace_Magashule">Ace Magashule</a> who has since contested the suspension and announced that he was suspending President Cyril Ramaphosa from being the party president.
Magashule had been suspended from the SG post pending an outcome of court proceedings in his corruption, fraud and money laundering case but he swiftly responded by suspending Ramaphosa.
We present below the Mgashule’s statement on the suspensions.

Date: Wednesday, 5 May 2021
I am issuing this media statement in my capacity as Secretary-General of the African National Congress (ANC).
I have received a letter under the signature of the Deputy Secretary-General, comrade Jessie Duarte, that temporarily suspends me for an initial period of six months. It is my understanding that this letter was issued to me in terms of a decision of the National Working Committee held on Monday the 3rd of May 2021, in terms of Rule 25.70 and Rule 13, to the effect that all members who have been indicted to appear in a court of law on charges. are to be temporarily suspended.
Other members who are similarly affected have received similar letters.
It is evident that the Deputy Secretary-General does not have the authority to issue such letters. Thus the letter is fatally flawed, and in fact unconstitutional. Furthermore, these letters are based on a selective and factional interpretation of the relevant Resolution.
I herewith announce that I am immediately, and formally, appealing this unconstitutional suspension. In terms of the ANC Constitution. my suspension is thus wholly suspended, until my appeal has been heard, and its final outcome announced.
For the sake of fairness and justice to all the affected comrades, who have received similarly unconstitutional letters, I as Secretary-General – who is duty-bound to uphold the ANC Constitution and all administrative processes – urge them to also follow the appropriate internal appeal processes. It follows that the suspensions of all affected members will also in terms of the ANC Constitution be suspended with immediate effect.
I have also. in accordance with the powers vested in me as the Secretary-General of the ANC, and furthermore in full compliance with the relevant conference Resolutions summarily suspended the President of the ANC, comrade Cyril Ramaphosa.
This is done in terms of Resolution 8.2 of the 54th National Conference, which states that, “…Every cadre accused of or reported to be involved in, corrupt practices accounts to the Integrity Committee immediately. or laces DC processes and Resolution 8.3 that further provides for the suspension of, “. . people who fail to give an acceptable explanation, or to voluntarily step down while they face disciplinary, investigative or prosecutorial procedures”.
I call on all members of the African National Congress to act with revolutionary dignity and respect and to uphold the ANC Constitution. None of us should bow to illegal and unconstitutional actions. In doing so we must protect the unity of the ANC as leader of society.

Suspended ANC Secretary-General, Ace Magashule has suspended president Cyril Ramaphosa as the president of the party adding that he will appeal his“fatally flawed” suspension.
<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/anc-suspends-secretary-general-ace-magashule/">Magashule had this week been temporarily suspended</a> after refusing to step aside until the outcome of court proceedings in his corruption, fraud and money laundering case.
Magashule described his suspension from party activities as “fatally flawed” and also questioned his deputy’s authority to issue him with such a letter.
He was served with a letter on Wednesday following a national working committee (NWC) meeting on Monday.
A defiant Magashule, however, issued his statement in his capacity as the secretary-general of the ANC through a Gmail account saying deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte had no authority to issue him with a suspension letter.
He also said he was using his powers as secretary-general to “summarily” suspend Ramaphosa “in full compliance with the relevant conference resolutions.” He said:

Defiant Magashule Suspends President Cyril Ramaphosa

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has suspended its Secretary-General, Ace Magashule.
In a letter, drafted on 3 May, deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte informed Magashule that he was temporarily suspended with effect from 3 May 2021, until the final outcome of his court proceedings.
Magashule is out on R200 000 bail and charged with corruption, fraud and money laundering related to a Free State asbestos tender.
Duarte told Magashule that, as part of his suspension, the latter may not carry out his duties and responsibilities as the secretary-general; he may not represent the organisation publicly, and he cannot make public pronouncements nor can he mobilise ANC structures. Reads the letter in part:
<blockquote>You may not engage in the mobilisation of ANC structures, any other organisations or individuals, including on your stepping aside and matters related thereto.
You are required to update the Office of the Secretary-General on a monthly basis, regarding the progress with your case. The decision to temporarily suspend you will be reviewed by the NEC every six months, or from time to time at your request.</blockquote>
The ANC’s national working committee (NWC) on Monday gave the green light to suspend all party leaders criminally charged, who did not step aside within the 30-day deadline, which expired last week.
Magashule rejected a push that he step aside, insisting that he could only be removed by a conference of the ANC.

ANC Suspends Secretary-General Ace Magashule

Zanu PF is reportedly not happy with the fact that South Africa’s ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule met with G40 elements in South Africa, The NewsHawks reports. According to the publication, the party is also not happy with ANC not reigning in President Mnangagwa’s critic Julius Malema.
According to the publication, the ANC told Zanu PF that they will continue to meet with legal Zimbabweans in South Africa same way they entertained President Mnangagwa when he fled President Mugabe in 2017. ANC reportedly also said they cannot silence Malema.
<blockquote>The Zanu PF official, who spoke to The NewsHawks, also said they agreed with the ANC delegate the Zimbabwe crisis is not an urgent issue – in fact there is no crisis. For Zanu PF, the worry is the ANC meetings with G40 leaders and that has remained a bone of contention, he said.
ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule has met with senior G40 leaders, Saviour Kasukuwere, Walter Muzembi and Patrick Zhuwao. Zanu PF complained about this. It also protested why ANC was not reining in militant SA opposition EFF leader Julius Malema who is critical of Mnangagwa.
The ANC leadership has told Zanu PF officials it will continue to meet with any Zimbabweans who are legal in South Africa like it did with Mnangagwa when he fled from Mugabe; and that it won’t muzzle Malema as that is not possible in a democracy. This has also stoked tensions.</blockquote>

Magashule’s alleged imminent arrest is reportedly over his role in the controversial Vrede Dairy Farm project. He will be charged for his alleged ’’failure to exercise oversight’’ relating to the Vrede Dairy Farm investigation.
Ace Magashule is reportedly part of the team that has high profile ANC members implicated in the Vrede Dairy Farm scandal, and he has denied commenting about the issue and said:

Confusion Over ANC Ace Magashule's Warrant Of Arrest

Zanu PF Director for Information and Publicity, Mr Tafadzwa Mugwadi has hinted that contrary to what <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/09/watch-we-will-come-back-and-meet-with-the-other-stakeholders-anc-delegation/">ANC’s Ace Magashule said that the ANC delegation will come back and engage with other stakeholders</a>, nothing of that sort was discussed in their “frank and honest” meeting earlier this month, The Herald reports.
Speaking to the publication, Mugwadi took a jab at the ANC and said they should concentrate on fixing issues bedevilling their country:

It is unfortunate, but we find it imperative to inform our sister revolutionary party, the ANC to focus their attention on matters affecting South Africans rather than attempt to experiment attention seeking gimmicks in the name of our stable nation and our peaceful people.

It is unprecedented in the history of our fraternal relations as revolutionary parties for the ANC to seek to verify our submissions through puppet movements. Full Text: ANC Statement On The Meeting With ZANU PF In Harare

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) said it will pay the government for the costs incurred when its delegation flew to Zimbabwe to meet with ZANU PF leaders last week on a SA airforce jet.
ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, who led the delegation to Harare, apologised for “hitchhiking” on the plane and pledged to reimburse the State for the costs incurred. He said:
<blockquote>We travelled in an unusual manner and profusely humble ourselves where we went wrong during the lockdown and will reimburse the government for the costs incurred on behalf of our delegation. Our delegation is under quarantine in line with our lockdown regulations.</blockquote>
This comes after opposition parties, the DA and the EFF criticised the party for using an airforce jet for the trip and called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to explain.
The South African President said that Mapisa-Nqakula had permission to travel to Zimbabwe to meet her counterpart to discuss defence-related matters.
Ramaphosa also wrote to Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula on Friday and demanded a response within 48 hours.
ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member Dakota Legoete who was part of the delegation, last week told News24 that the use of a SA air force jet was “not a mistake”. He said:
<blockquote>How can it be a mistake when between five to seven million people are about to face starvation? How can it be a mistake when about over 4 million people have crossed the border, they are in our shores?
How can it be a mistake when we are likely to face an outrage of xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans because they are tussling for manual labour with South Africans?
… For inaction, the ANC is going to be blamed. For action, the ANC will be equally blamed. People forget we are African, with African value systems.</blockquote>

ANC To Pay Full Cost Of Airforce Jet 'Lift' For Zimbabwe Trip

The six-member African National Congress delegation which held a closed-door meeting with top ZANU PF officials on Wednesday has painted a gloomy picture of the situation in Zimbabwe, contradicting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government that the situation in the country is normal.
The head of the ANC’s peace and stability committee, Toni Yengeni, who was one of the delegates, told journalists on landing at Waterkloof Airforce Base in Pretoria that the situation in Zimbabwe cannot be allowed to continue as it is. He said:
<blockquote>There are problems in Zimbabwe, major challenges both of social, economic and to some extent of a political nature.</blockquote>
Head of the delegation, ANC’s secretary-general Ace Magashule said though the situation in Zimbabwe cannot be characterised as a crisis, the country faces immense challenges. He said:
<blockquote>We have agreed that there were challenges in Zimbabwe that must be confronted. As liberation movements, we should respect human rights. We respect freedom of association and freedom of speech.</blockquote>
ANC’s international relations committee chairperson Lindiwe Zulu, who has been frank about the Zimbabwe situation over the years, said:
<blockquote>..we had to put all those issues on the table, issues of human rights and others… we went beyond that.
Unless we are frank with each other, it won’t help the situation. I can assure you, it was a meeting with a difference.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Magashule to the SABC that they would fly back to Harare in a few weeks where they would meet with other stakeholders including civil society, opposition members and the church to get to the bottom of the crisis in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe Has Major Challenges - ANC

Respected SABC foreign correspondent Sophie Mokoena said what was said by ZANU PF and ANC leaders to the media following their “frank” engagements in Harare on Wednesday is different from their exchanges behind the scenes.
Mokoena, who has been attacked several times on social media by Zimbabwe’s Information Secretary Nick Mangwana and Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba said the ZANU PF and ANC officials were simply being diplomatic. She said:

'What Transpired In Private Is Different From What We Hear In Public' - SABC Journalist On ANC, ZANU PF Meeting

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has expressed appreciation over the recent visit by a delegation of the South African ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) to Zimbabwe.
Chamisa hailed Ace Magashule and his comrades for holding “frank” discussions with ZANU PF officials in Harare on Wednesday over reports of a crisis in the country that has sent millions of Zimbabweans across the region.
The opposition leader said ZANU PF has lost its revolutionary credentials by negating Zimbabweans’ fundamental rights and the party has, in fact, become counter-revolutionary. Said Chamisa:
<blockquote>Thank you, ANC for a frank and principled engagement! Any liberation history or relationship that negates human rights, people’s fundamental freedoms, holding of credible elections and respecting of the WILL of the people is hollow and counter-revolutionary. There is a crisis in Zimbabwe!</blockquote>
In a statement articulating the party’s position regarding the visit by the ANC delegation to Zimbabwe on Tuesday night and subsequent meetings with ZANU PF officials on Wednesday, MDC Alliance secretary-general Chalton Hwende said:
<blockquote>As the MDC Alliance, we would like to thank the ANC and the delegation led by Secretary-General Ace Magashule for taking time to visit Zimbabwe and help the country to end the political crisis caused by the 2018 Disputed Elections. The torture and abduction of citizens must stop.</blockquote>
Magashule told South African media on Thursday morning that the ANC would make a follow-up meeting with opposition political parties and other stakeholders in Zimbabwe in the next two to three weeks.
Addressing the media earlier in Harare, Magashule revealed that Simba Makoni of the (Mavambo/Kusile) party, ZAPU, Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, MDC Alliance, as well as United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe (Brian Nichols) had requested to meet the delegation.

Elias “Ace” Magashule, who is the secretary-general of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC), has characterised Zimbabwe as a “province” that has to be stabilised as it has just emerged from a contested election.
Magashule was speaking to South African media on Thursday morning soon after returning from Harare where he and his delegation met other senior ZANU PF officials on Wednesday. He said:
<blockquote>They will arrange a meeting. The meeting is not arranged by Zanu PF. So, those other political parties, we are going to meet them so that we are able to bring together the people of Zimbabwe recognising that they are coming from recent elections and we need peace and stability in that province.</blockquote>
Magashule said the ANC would make a follow-up meeting with opposition political parties and other stakeholders in Zimbabwe in the next two to three weeks.
He said ZANU PF did not object to the ANC’s desire to meet with other political parties and other stakeholders in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has been in crisis after crisis for over two decades and the situation was worsened by the November 2017 military coup and the July 30, 2018, disputed election.
The Zimbabwean government has used violence against protestors including the shooting of civilians by armed forces (in August 2018 and January 2019), alleged abductions, arrests and denial of bail for imprisoned activists.
The government, however, insists that there is no crisis the country, blaming social media users for allegedly peddling falsehood and waging “cyber attacks” against the State which “borders on subversion”.

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) delegation would be returning to Zimbabwe at the end of September to meet other stakeholders over the country’s prolonged crisis, Transform Zimbabwe leader Jacob Ngarivhume said he was informed by his sources.
The opposition leader recently incarcerated for 43 days after calling for anti-government protests made the claims during an interview with the SABC on Wednesday night.
According to ZimLive.com, the meeting held on Wednesday between ZANU PF and the ANC delegation was essentially to get the former to accept South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s attempts to mediate in the crisis.
ZANU PF would reportedly maintain its hard-line stance of denying the opposition an audience with the ANC, which it would accede to down the line.
Head of delegation Elias “Ace” Magashule told reporters that they had received meeting requests from the MDC Alliance, civil society organisations, a union of journalists and the United States ambassador to Zimbabwe Brian Nichols. He said:
<blockquote>We have received some requests to meet other stakeholders from Zimbabwe like the opposition parties Simba Makoni (Mavambo/Kusile), the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, MDC Alliance, as well as United States ambassador to Zimbabwe.
But we felt that, together with Zanu PF, that indeed there is no problem meeting with the structures and therefore we are going to make arrangements to once more come back and meet with these organisations.</blockquote>
President Emmerson Mnangagwa insists that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe, despite a high rate of inflation which is hovering above 800 per cent, half of the population is in need of food aid, and millions of Zimbabweans have crossed the border to eke out a living in neighbouring countries.

ANC Delegation To Return To Harare Later This Month - REPORT

While addressing the media, head of the ANC delegation that had come to engage with the ruling party and other stakeholders  Ace Magashule has said it will come back and meet with the other stakeholders.

A delegation from South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) arrived in Harare on Tuesday night for a scheduled meeting with the ZANU PF Central Committee this Wednesday.
The ANC delegation was welcomed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by a team led by Defence Minister and ZANU PF national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri.
ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule said they will hold closed-door meetings with their Zanu PF counterparts led by the secretary for administration, Obert Mpofu today. He said:
<blockquote>We are going to have a meeting with Zanu PF to discuss various issues.</blockquote>
The ANC delegation is made up of Magashule, party national chairman Samson Gwede Mantashe, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula (a member of the NEC and Minister of Defence and Military Veterans), Tony Yengeni (member of the NEC and National Working Committee (NWC), and chairperson of the NEC on Peace and Stability), Lindiwe Zulu (member of the NEC, chairperson of the NEC on International Relations and Minister of Social Development) and Enoch Godongwana (member of NEC and chairperson of the NEC on Economic Transformation.
The ZANU PF acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa on Tuesday said that the ANC delegation would only meet with the ruling party.
Meanwhile, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa last week said the ANC officials would engage Zimbabwe’s political rivals with the intention to develop a fuller understanding of the situation in Zimbabwe and to determine how the government and ANC can assist.
Ramaphosa added that the ANC delegation must speak to all parties and stakeholders as well.
The South African delegation will leave Zimbabwe on Thursday.

ANC Delegation Arrives For Crunch Talks

The former Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology Development, Godfrey Gandawa, said South Africa’s African National Congress delegation due in Harare this Tuesday will not achieve any tangible results.
Gandawa opined that the problem lies partly in how the crisis in Zimbabwe is viewed by some of the concerned parties, that is, ZANU PF’s G40 on one hand, and the MDC Alliance on the other hand.
While the G40 traces the genesis of Zimbabwe’s crisis to the November 2017 military coup, for the MDC Alliance, the “stolen” 2018 election embodies the crisis, which it considers a crisis of legitimacy.
For Gandawa, both narratives will not find any takers in the ANC delegation whose intention is to buttress the ruling ZANU PF party so that it can weather the storm. Below is Dr Gandawa’s post on Twitter:
<blockquote>At the risk of being the bearer of bad news, the ANC delegation that arrives in Harare today will not achieve any meaningful outcome. This is because what is widely described as a crisis, means different things to the stakeholders. The conversation starts at cross purposes.
The MDC believes that the crisis is a bilateral dispute between itself and Zanu PF, which can only be resolved by Zanu PF surrendering power to the legitimate winner of the 2018 election. Over the past two years, this has found expression as the ‘crisis of legitimacy’.
Meanwhile, the so-called G40 believes that the crisis arises from the 2017 coup which ushered in the Mnangagwa regime. The 2017 coup is viewed as the genesis of military interference and state capture. To fix Zimbabwe, the coup must be cured.
Unfortunately, the South African government does not accept any of these arguments. It recognises Mnangagwa as the legitimate president elected in 2018 and affirmed by the Constitutional Court decision rejecting the challenge to his victory. That matter is settled.
As far as the ANC and Ramaphosa’s envoys are concerned, they are not in Harare to negotiate a transfer of power or to relitigate the coup or the 2018 election. As they have repeatedly said, they want to help Zanu PF stabilize the situation so that it can survive this crisis.
The crisis has been decades in the making. Violence and capture of state did not start in 2017. Far from just a change of govt, Zimbabwe requires a fundamental shift in the relationship between the state and citizen. This is unlikely to arise from this engagement.
To be coherent, the opposition must recast its argument in sympathy with this reality. The People’s Grievances are stronger than the 2017 coup and stronger still than the disputed election. Locating the crisis as emanating from a single act in recent history is self-serving.</blockquote>

ANC Delegation To Harare Much Ado About Nothing - Analyst

A delegation from South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) led by the party’s secretary-general Ace Magashule is expected in the country this Tuesday for meetings with the ruling ZANU PF party.
Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu on Monday said the two parties will focus on issues to do with economic and political cooperation, rather than the claims of a crisis in Zimbabwe. He said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that all is set for the Zanu PF-ANC talks. We have been briefed that our revolutionary counterpart the ANC is sending its top brass ahead of the indaba scheduled for this Wednesday.
Considering that this whole crisis narrative constitutes a peripheral concern, we are certain that obvious rationality will shift our discussion focus to other more important issues.
… However, in this instance, we have no problem to tackle at length considering that the crisis alarm is not founded on what is prevailing on the ground.</blockquote>
South African Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mphakama Mbete also confirmed the arrival of the ANC delegation. He said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that the ANC nine-member delegation will arrive in Zimbabwe today, but I don’t have the exact time.</blockquote>
Last week President Emmerson Mnangagwa dismissed claims that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe.
Speaking during a meeting of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), a grouping of over a dozen small political party leaders he defeated in 2018, he said:
<blockquote>In the wake of the arrest of some elements whose actions sought not only to incite the public to gather against the set rules (of Covid-19)… subversive allegations of a crisis have been made mainly in the social media circles.
I wish to unequivocally state that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe as elections were held in July 2018 and a winner was declared in terms of the country’s constitution.</blockquote>

Nine-member ANC Delegation Expected In Harare

Zimbabwe’s Southern neighbour South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC  will on Tuesday this week send a delegation of 10 members to come and speak to their counterparts in Zanu PF as a way to try and resolve the Zimbabwean crisis that is infamously hogging the international limelight, Sunday News reports.
The delegation will be led by ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule and it is expected to meet with Zanu PF members before engaging with other stakeholders. The visit was confirmed by Zanu PF Director for Information Tafadzwa Mugwadi who said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that the delegation will arrive on Tuesday. I am not sure of the full names of the team, but obviously it is going to include the top brass of the ANC. I understand that ANC secretary-general Cde Ace Magashule will lead the team.</blockquote>
Mugwadi was quick to rubber-stamp the government’s position by dispelling what he called ” a so-called notion ” that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe and said:
<blockquote>It should be made clear that this meeting is not based on the so-called notion that there is a crisis in Zimbabwe. There is no crisis in Zimbabwe and our position as Zanu-PF is that the only crisis that is there is actually in the opposition, which has been torn into smithereens because of the issues that they took to court.
We now have a scenario whereby the opposition now wants to frame their crisis as a national crisis. It is not the duty of Zanu-PF to assume that the crisis in the opposition should be turned into a national crisis.</blockquote>

10 Member ANC Delegation To Come And Speak To Zanu PF On Tuesday

South Africa’s ruling party – The African National Congress (ANC) has dismissed as fake reports which suggest that its Secretary-General, Ace Magashule had distanced the party from a letter by <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/08/23/anc-is-not-a-path-to-wealth-president-cyril-ramaphosa-tells-corrupt-officials/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">President Cyril Ramaphosa which criticised corrupt tendencies by some party members.</a>
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s national spokesperson, Pule Mabe said the false reports were being peddled by individuals who intended to sow enmity and divisions in the ruling party.

The latest installment comes from those who claim that ANC Secretary-General. Comrade Ace Magashule has distanced the ANC from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s letter addressed to ANC members
We are aware that detractors thrive on divisions and despise harmony.
