The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has criticised the police for being slow in investigating politically-motivated threats and violence against its supporters by ruling ZANU-PF members.
Party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, Monday demanded that police investigate and act on rising cases, including comments by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga that the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/chiwenga-threatens-to-crush-ccc-when-time-is-ripe/">opposition will be crushed like lice.</a>
Her statements came after violent scenes in Matobo’s Ward 6 and Insiza where party members were allegedly waylaid and attacked by ZANU PF youths. Mahere said on Twitter:

We call for a police investigation into the violence that took place and for the perpetrators to brought to book. We have made a police report and we expect it to be taken seriously.
Numerous incidents of violence where known Zanu-PF perpetrators have not been brought to book.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Abton_Mashayanyika">Abton Mashayanyika</a> was caught on video saying, <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/im-too-zanu-pf-to-be-arrested-chamisa-death-threat-bishop-defiant/">Chamisa must be killed</a>, everyone knows of the top Zanu-PF official who called for the CCC to be crushed like lice.
Police have a constitutional duty to investigate crime and secure lives and property of citizens.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in July said it was investigating the viral video inciting the killing of CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and his children that was filmed during a ZANU PF rally.
Meanwhile, the CCC party has since written to SADC on all the political violence that has been perpetrated by ZANU PF,  according to Mahere.

CCC Criticises Police For Being Slow In Investigating Politically-motivated Violence

A ZANU PF official and church leader in Midlands Province who threatened to kill CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and his family says he will never be arrested.
Abton Mashayanyika, a bishop in the Habbakuk Apostolic Faith Mission church in Mberengwa claims he was a collaborator during the liberation struggle and is, therefore “untouchable”.
Police are yet to arrest Mashayanyika or question him after he threatened to kill Chamisa for challenging President Emmerson Mnangagwa while addressing a ZANU PF local meeting.
A video recording of the meeting during which Mashayanyika made the threat went viral on social media more than a week ago.
On Saturday, Mashayanyika told The Standard that he “does not like” CCC and did not have any regrets over his threats. He said:

Who will arrest me? Me? I am ready to die for ZANU PF, but that will not stop me from saying ‘down with sell-outs’.
That’s politics to say they must be killed.
If they are opposing ZANU PF they are also saying ZANU PF must be killed. I do not like those people because I am a war collaborator.
I fought in the liberation war that took over the country from white colonisation.
Now some people come and want to give back the country to the whites. We can’t let that happen.

Mashayanyika said he was a pastor but identified himself more as a politician than a religious leader. He said:

Yes, I am a bishop but I am more of ZANU PF than I identify myself as a church leader.
When are the police going to come? I am not afraid of them.
I am a ZANU PF member and am not afraid of getting arrested.
Tell them there in Harare that I am not afraid. I have been a staunch ZANU PF supporter since (Rhodesian prime minister Ian) Smith’s time.
But I am a war collaborator. I will not let the country go back into the hands of the whites.
We can’t let it go on like that and I still insist that I will continue supporting (President Emmerson) ED Mnangagwa.

"I'm Too ZANU PF To Be Arrested", Chamisa Death Threat Bishop Defiant

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has failed to condemn threats of political violence that were issued by members of ZANU PF against CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa and his family.
In a video recording that went viral, ZANU PF’s Abton Mashayanyika said Chamisa and his children must be killed.
Responding to questions at a press conference held at the Commission’s headquarters on Friday, ZEC spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said they were not aware of the video.
He added that ZEC had no jurisdiction in matters that involve political opponents issuing threats of violence. Mangwana said:

First of all, that video has not been brought to the attention of the commission. I think that is an issue that has to be dealt with by the republic police.
For us to say this or that would definitely not be following what we call due process because whatever allegation has come, it has to be reported, it has to be investigated, court processes have to go through and something has to be done.
We, as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, cannot comment on such speculation because it has not been brought to our attention, even by the stakeholders that are involved, so for us to comment, we will definitely not give you a correct answer.

Members of the opposition have demanded that Mashayanyika be arrested for issuing the threats.
CCC MP Job Sikhala is currently jailed at Chikurubi Maximum Prison on allegations of inciting violence after he purportedly posted a video condemning the murder of CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali.
